His office staff were excellent when I required an emergency appointment and they were able to get me in within the day. Dr. McKiel went above and beyond to help me cope and manage a complex eye issue. I couldn't have been in better hands. I have brought both of my small children to Dr. McKiel and he was excellent! It isn't easy to do an eye exam on children under the age of 5 but I feel confident in continuing to bring my children for their yearly exam. I have been seeing Dr. McKiel for a few years now and at my last visit he was discussing my eyes and my career in relation to my glasses. Dr. McKiel suggested some new glasses specifically for a lot of computer related work. I just received them and they are so extraordinary and have changed game for me. These glasses have reduced eyestrain, neck strain, back strain and my overall issues with working in front of a computer all day. I am so grateful for the doctor suggesting these glasses and they are not my regular prescription. Especially now that most of us are doing so much work from home and in front of a computer This type of eyewear is a must have. Thanks again!!!

You won't find an optometrist with friendlier staff. There was no excessive pressure to buy their glasses, which is a big plus. Just note, in the winter they ask you to remove your shoes or put a cover underneath them, and the covers didn't fit my size 12 shoes.

Such a good experience with them! My glasses suddenly broke, picked a new pair out on their website. The office manager, I was dealing with was super friendly and gave his concerns about a few pairs of glasses I picked considering I live 3 hours away. Last month I went in to this shop to look for a new pair of glasses. Quickly I found a pair I liked and asked to order them. The price was kind of high, but I had some insurance and I needed a pair ASAP and was told by the employee that I could have my glasses ordered in within the week. So that was a heck yes and I ordered them. The lady also told me that I could pay for them when the glasses arrived, so there was no rush as of right now. I gave the lady my new pkohone number before leaving to make sure they could get ahold of me and left. A few days later they called and asked my dad for payment and when my dad told me he said he may have heard the lady say they were also in the store now too. I called back and was told no they're not in yet... Oh well...Two weeks go by and my mom phoned in again and the lady said another 3-4 weeks and they'll be ready.. so I waited another week and a bit and called back.. This time the lady answered and checked in the back for me and said yes they're in and they've been in for 3 weeks already... I told her I called many times and was told they weren't in. Apparently they were calling my old number from many years back and leaving messages ???? Not really sure how that makes sense since they knew to call the right number for the payment..But oh well a lot of frustration and many people saying different things.. My glasses are nice but the hassle wasn't needed or enjoyed.

I decided at the last minute to purchase a pair of good quality sunglasses for my husband for Christmas. I was so pleased that Dr. McKiel's office was open that Saturday. I only had limited time between driving to soccer and hockey and the staff we efficient and helpful. They steered me in the right direction when I said I was looking for something "sporty, functional AND fashionable"! I purchased a pair I thought he might like, but knew I would want to come back with my husband after Christmas. The staff assured me that it wouldn't be a problem and it wasn't. It took us a while to find a convenient time when both of us could go and look together, but that was no problem. My husband and I picked out a different style of the same brand and he loves them. They look great for around town, but they are polarized, so he can also wear them fishing :) If you are looking for sunglasses that meet this criteria, check out Costa brand at Dr. McKiel's office - I believe his office is the only place in town that carries them.

My first experience with Dr. McKiel's office was quite enjoyable. The staff were so knowledgeable and easy to talk to; they're simply good people. They have a great selection of glasses to choose from and are very helpful when you're not sure what looks good on you. Dr. McKiel was very personable and took the time to answer my questions. He was quick to send me to an ophthalmologist for what turned out to be a relatively minor issue that, if left unattended, could have turned serious. My previous eye doctor was not as diligent despite the signs. After all, getting great service is what is expected, but getting great eye care is what matters most! Thank you again Dr. McKiel and staff. (PS, my new glasses look great and fit perfectly. I can't even tell that I'm wearing them!)

I was reminded to leave a review of my experience 2 years ago with Dr. McKiel when his staff called to book a follow up appointment. I went to see him after my optometrist retired. The tech who did my vision test was very nice. At the end of the appointment Dr. McKiel came in to the room and scoffed "somebody gave you glasses?!", hastily wrote me a prescription, and then left the room. That was that. I am aware that my vision is not that bad. My optometrist told me most people with my vision would not proceed to get glasses, but I was having trouble seeing driving at night. He would have known that had he asked me any questions, or asked me if I had any questions, but there was zero exchange and no time for that. I guess since my vision was deemed unglasses worthy to him I do not deserve the time of day. On the way out the reception staff said "isn't this so much nicer than where you used to go?". Actually, no it is not, not at all. My last optometrist actually took the time to counsel, where Dr. McKiel did not.

My Husband & I went to Dr. McKiel and we were pleased with his professional complete friendly service. As well as double checking on my hubby’s eyes. Much appreciated as our optometrist had retired, then there was the work Stoppage due to the Ford Govt. Aside, hoping that they will get the monies deserved for all, but especially seniors and children. My first visit to this organization would ever be a memorable day for me. As I walked into the reception area, a staff walked towards me with a big smile and asked me to hand in my winter jacket to hang it. I felt like a king as I was treated like one. Not only that, the high level of professionalism of the staff and Dr. McKiel is incredible. Dr. McKiel saved my sight. He arranged an emergency call for me the same day of my first appointment with him to see a specialist. On a good day, it would take me weeks to have such an appointment with a specialist. I have been seeing Cory for about 4 years now and have had nothing but great experiences. He fitted me for my first pair of prescription glasses at the age of 36. I was reluctant to get glasses at first but he found a great pair for me and they have really helped me. I fish quite often and Cory recently helped me get a pair of prescription polarized glasses which have been amazing when out in the boat and driving on those sunny days. The office is state of the art and the staff are always very helpful. I have recommended Cory to many of my friends who now see him.

I highly recommend this office. I just had a great experience. I went in to get my eyes checked since I knew they were getting worse and thought I probably needed bifocals. I wasn't comfortable with the idea, however, I couldn't see well and knew it had to be done. Dr Mckiel took the time to explain to me how my prescription had changed and assured me that most people my age go through the same thing. He asked his staff to help me find frames where a progressive lens could be used so that the whole world didn't know that I needed bifocals!!! I know this sounds vain, but what a relief that was. His staff was helpful and courteous. And talk about a great pair of frames!!! A fabulous set of Tom Ford's!!! His office is absolutely beautiful. I felt like I was in a boutique. I am one happy customer!

I had an excellent first experience at this clinic with Dr. Carly Ross and staff. Their covid safety practices are excellent. Dr. Ross was on time, very thorough, kind, professional and took her time during my appointment. She was able to prescribe much better and more comfortable contacts than I’ve been wearing. They even delivered my new prescription glasses for me in less than a week! I highly recommend this Doctor and clinic!

I called to book an appointment and found out that they are charging 90$ for a must have covid test on arrival, with a thermometer which is not accurate on top of the usual 60$ eye exam. I doubt this is legal, please do something.

Shame on this group of ‘professionals’. Refusing to perform eye exams on kids who have trouble seeing the white board at school because they are in a dispute with the government over OHIP fees. After all that kids have been through during covid, all the while, Optometrist haven’t missed a beat during covid because they are ‘essential’ and now you refuse eye care of kids? This is unbecoming of a health care professional. Why can other physician groups, nurses, fire, police, EMS all negotiate without refusing essential care. You may not like the current fees paid by the government, but you set up shop in Ontario knowing full well how socialized healthcare systems work and take advantage of the steady stream of government funded eye exams. To pull this stunt is disgusting. I will be filing a complaint to the regulatory College about this. Optometrist are ‘essential’ and stayed open during Covid, yet now, eye exams for kids are not essential? I hope the College takes swift and decisive action. For those in Thunder Bay, call around, there is someone doing eye exams. Remember this next time you buy lenses (the real money maker) about who showed that your kids being able to see at school is essential vs those who think seeing at school is not essential.
