Coming from a medical family I am very diligent in my research prior to selecting my doctors. That said, I have seen Dr. Militello for 13+ years and received outstanding medical care. He recently performed my cataract surgery and I couldn't be happier with the results. I find the office to be highly professional and the staff attentive and concerned. I was very pleased with The Eye Center. I filled out all the forms which did not take very long. I waited for an expected average period of time, not too short and not too long to be seen. The first step was going over with an eye technician the measurements etc. of my eyes. Then I got the dilation drops and what an another room that was dark and comfortable and pleasant and chatted with the other patients. One patient told me that the dentist that I picked out is very good and did her husband's dentures. Back to Doctor Militello. He is a very nice guy and a great doctor. He examined my eyes and gave me the diagnosis that I have cataracts but do not need surgery at this time. I was very impressed with him and trust his diagnosis. I am going to refer my friend to him. He does lots of surgeries at Bayonet Point Hospital. I volunteer at the hospital so I trust them and I trust the doctor.

In June and July of this year (2019), Dr. Militello removed cataracts from both of my eyes and inserted intraocular lenses (IOLs). The experience was positive from start to finish, resulting in 20/20 vision and no need for eyeglasses or contact lenses for the first time in my adult life. I am age 74 and had put off the cataract removal surgery for years, anticipating inconvenience, disruption of my life style, and even irritation, swelling, pain, maybe worse. None of my fears became reality. Instead, the surgery on each eye went smoothly and quickly, without pain or complications. I was able to drive the day after surgery, and all restrictions (e. g., no heavy lifting or bending, wearing eye patch to sleep) were lifted at my one-week follow-up visit with Dr. Militello. Now I know why cataract removal is sometimes called a “miracle surgery” – that is, if you have a caring, competent ophthalmologist like Dr. Militello. Dr. Militello has a well-organized office; competent, friendly staff; and systems designed to provide patients with clear, concise, step-by-step instructions. Although he sees a lot of patients, he stays on schedule. During my six scheduled office visits, I never waited more than 10 minutes, usually less. It is rare to find a medical practice where the doctor and the staff show such respect for their patients’ time. I never felt rushed during any office visit or the surgery, but I also never felt that my time was being taken unnecessarily. Whenever I called the office with a question, someone helpful and knowledgeable handled the call. It was clear that the staff had all been well trained in courtesy and service with a smile. Dr. Militello is personable but efficient; his staff follows his lead. In consultation prior to surgery, Dr. Militello gave me several options for intraocular lenses (IOLs) that helped me to focus on my vision improvement goals. I researched an additional option and discussed it with him. We reached agreement on two different types of IOLs, and I could not be happier with the result. I felt that I was encouraged to participate in this vital medical decision-making. On each surgery day at Bayfront Surgery Center in Hudson, the prep nurses and Operating Room (OR) staff were caring, competent, and efficient. Dr. Militello gave me verbal reassurance that I would do well in surgery. He performed the operation before I realized it had been done. I had no pain or discomfort despite being conscious throughout the procedure. Of course I had local anesthesia but no post-op irritation, discomfort, or pain. If you are seeking a competent, caring eye doctor, I wholeheartedly recommend Joseph Militello. I am telling all my friends and neighbors about the positive experiences I have had in his care. This review is a way to spread the word and hopefully help other people learn about this medical treasure in our community.

I needed cataract surgery. Many friends told me it was easy, nothing to it, in and out, but it was new to me and I was quite apprehensive (translate "scared"). Dr. Militello told me that my fear was understandable. He didn't belittle me or invalidate my apprehension. He thoroughly explained the procedure to me and treated me like I was an intelligent human. His staff is knowledgeable, caring, and efficient. So we did the first eye. He was very good. By the time we got to the second eye 3 weeks later, I was telling people it was easy, nothing to it, in and out. Dr. Militello and his staff are true professionals. I would recommend them with full confidence.

He told me it would cost me $1500. I paid him, on the morning of the surgery found out that I had to pay the surgery center $1500 right then. Good thing I had a credit card. Then after the surgery found out that I still had to pay another $1500. He is a good surgeon, but he really put me in a financial pinch for a long time. Guess this is how he gets more business when things are slow. Make sure he tells you the full price before the surgery.

I was very leery about having anything done to my eyes and very nervous. I was talking to one of my Coworkers and she highly recommended him. Both she and her husband went to him, she said you are going to love him. So I took a chance. Made an appointment. Got to the office that day went through the preliminaries and in walked the Dr. From the moment he walked in the door I was relieved, for some reason. He just has this personality that you don't see in too many Doctors. Scheduled my surgery a little nervous, got in there and he explained everything, boom it was done and now I have 20/20 vision had both eyes done. Don't hesitate if you have cataracts please make an appointment Dr. Militello will change your world and you will be so relieved with such a great DR. Not only is Dr. Militello a caring person, he’s also very competent. I hadn’t heard of him, nor known anyone who had their cataract surgery with him; I was sent to him by my insurance provider. However, I’m now a fan! I had new lenses placed into both eyes and I feel like I woke up in a box of crayons! Colors are so bright, and seeing is quite clear. Both the Doctor and his well-trained staff are professional and capable. The staff answered all of my questions and I had a lot of them! I didn’t suffer any kind of inconvenience; no irritation or pain. I had some fear of local anesthesia but the staff at Bayfront worked around that giving me general anesthesia which was quite helpful. All the staff at Bayfront were helpful too, and explained every part of their procedures before doing them. Through his very capable and diverse staff, Dr. Militello not only offers patients helpful, clear, concise, and step-by-step instructions, but a new lease on visual awareness! I needed to have the lens changed in my right eye due to the lens discolorization over the years. Dr. Militello convinced me that this direction was my remedy via his words and examples. I trusted his skills to get this done. Dr. Militello runs his office like a very ordered ship, and every time I visited there, this fact left me with an increased feeling of confidence. Two years ago I needed to have cataract surgery and I pride myself on doing my due diligence before picking the right doctor. I just had cataract surgery from Dr. Militello and I can't believe how wonderful the experience was from the initial visit to the measurement to the surgery and follow-up visits. Dr. Militello and his staff were professional, caring, courteous, and very knowledgeable and spelled out my options very clearly. I now have 20/20 vision without wearing any glasses or contact lenses. I write this because I had had my left eye cataract removed a year ago in New Mexico and did not have the right eye done then because I was so dissatisfied that my vision was no better. As a result I was worried when approaching this right eye surgery after moving to FL. When Dr. Militello explained my options for my right eye cataract, I chose an option that I didn't even know existed let alone considered before (at no additional cost) and I am so lucky Dr. Militello explained this option to me. I couldn't be happier with the results and recommend Dr. Militello and his staff very highly.

Dr. Militello perfomed surgery on me over a year ago. The result was not acceptable by me or Militello. My cornea was exposed causing constant watering & pain. It also reduced my vision. Militello stated he could not repair the damage & sent me to a plastic surgeon. The Corrective surgery was estimated @ $12,000 & not guaranteed to be successful. I personally, would NOT recommend Militello to friends or family. I have 1500 pages of medical reports to support these facts if it becomes necessary.

My husband Ron Batt and I have been Dr . Minitello’s patients since 2007. I had cancer on my eyelid and he performed surgery. He did such a good job that you cannot tell which eyelid had the surgery. We are both 75 years old and Dr. Minitello did cataract surgery on both of us. We both have 20/20 now and have not had any problems whatsoever. I have Lupus and was operated for Temperal Arteritis a surgery, and Dr Minitello has treated me after that surgery. Since then he monitors me closely and has been able to control the symptoms. Dr. Militello performed my cataract removal surgery earlier this year on both of my eyes. I chose to have multi-focal lenses implanted so my eyes can focus at any distance. I am extremely pleased with the lenses. Everything is now bright and clear. I am one of the few who see some night rings around certain lights, but it seems to be fading away. Even if the condition does not go away completely, it does not hinder my night vision and I can see everything so clearly now. I love the new lenses. Dr. Militello and his staff were exceptional. They were friendly, efficient, professional and very helpful in preparing me for this surgery. The Bayonette surgery center they used also receives my highest rating. They too were professional and exceptional in serving their patients. I am very happy I was referred to Dr. Militello by several of my close friends, and I have recommended him to others as well.
