someone messed up on my order and tried to charge me 600$ when I never agreed to pay that. Stated "that's just how expensive these are." Luckily I was able to order contacts else where for a fraction of the price and did not receive poor treatment from the staff there. " **Thanks for inviting me to leave a review Hollyburn Eye Clinic. Unfortunately as you are aware from my phone call today, my experience wasn't happy a one (as suggested in your message). Hidden charges due to Covid19 are a poor excuse to squeeze extra money out of people during a financially insecure time. At no point in my initial appointment booking, nor the secondary phone call from Hollyburn to advise on appointment procedures, nor the phone call I was required to make outside of the building to check in and verify my details, nor the pre screening and not even at the end payment procedure was I ever advised that there would be a $25 "co pay Covid charge" for my child's eye exam. Why are children subject to such extortion at this clinic? Upon receipt of full payment there was no breakdown or explanation anywhere to suggest what this charge is. I wasn't made aware of any charges from notices posted at the clinic or online. When I called for information regarding the fee, the receptionist was unable to explain clearly why a child would be subject to this charge when eye exams are covered by MSP. She did say that the covid charge would cease as of next week! Not helpful and rather like rubbing salt into a wound. She advised that she would arrange for her manager to speak with me and left me on hold for a lengthy time. Another staff member picked up, she didn't know why I was holding and said that she would get some one to call me back. Dr Avinashi did call back and explained the charge is in place for 2 reasons, longer appointment times, and gaps between patients due to sanitising (loss of business) and also that MSP only pays a small portion of what a child's eye test costs these days (he said that MSP eye exam coverage hasn't changed in years). He advised that most opticians have the Covid co payment in place for children's and seniors eye exams. What a deplorable way to prey on the vulnerable and less financially secure. My own appointment at the clinic on the same day cost $135, which I assume also had the covid charge hidden within, since again, there is no breakdown in the invoice. I was given a bill of $160 for both myself and child and paid upon checkout. Dr Avinashi offered $25 be put towards lenses for my child. Unfortunately I feel that since the charges have been applied so underhanded and not explained prior to or even at time of payment, I will no longer be comfortable as a patient or bringing my child to this clinic. Neither will I be able to refer people in future. Nickel and diming is a sorry way to lose a family of patients.

Today we met with Dr. Nanopoulos and she identified a blinking issue through keen observation of my 14 year old... I was so impressed, as we've been to other eye doctors and no one has ever pointed this out before. As such, she will keep an extra eye our for her in the coming years. I was really so surprised by her astute diagnosis, and feel we are in exceptionally good hands. It's also worth noting that appointments for my children were billed to their medical plans, and I'm not sure other clinics give up this fee... also very ethical. I will, and already have in fact shared my experience with other friends with teenagers using their phones for too many hours. Dr. N explained the consequences in non-judgemental terms that the kids could understand and provided strategies. Afterwards we found glasses that block from blue light and that too is a safety measure that I feel really good about (thank YOU to the most patient Hala for immense patience in helping my eldest pick a pair of glasses that suited her style!! I think you must have had to sanitize 50 pairs before we were finished, but she loves your recommendation in the end! You're the best!) Thanks overall to the clinic for a very important appointment today--this is the kind of care I'm going to stick with for my family.

The staff are very friendly and professional. Hollyburn Eye Clinic is one of the only Optometry clinics on the North Shore that can accommodate a person in a wheelchair. The clinic is spacious and you are able to sit at the Phoroptor (owl like machine that flips lenses back and forth to determine your eye correction) without transferring into a stationary chair. I saw Dr. Jhamba - very helpful. My entire visit was 30 mins and no waiting. They have a set of double doors without an auto door button, but the staff see you immediately and come to help without waiting or knocking.

After months of dealing with debilitating dry eye symptoms, I did some research and booked an appointment with Dr. Avinashi. I was absolutely blown away with the level of service, attention, and care that I received. The equipment at Hollyburn is state of the art, and the assessment that I underwent was infinitely superior, and far more thorough, than any eye exam that I've ever had. Upon recognizing that I had done a lot of research into my condition, Dr. Avinashi adjusted his communication style to offer me a more detailed and technical explanation of my symptoms. He took extra time to answer my questions and laid out a cutting-edge treatment plan, which he modified (without being asked) to fit my student budget. It's uncommon to see a medical professional with the level of emotional intelligence, clinical rigour, and passion for their field that Dr. Avinashi demonstrated during my appointment. A rare combination of traits that will keep me coming back to Hollyburn eyes for life, even though I don’t live near the North Shore. Also, shoutout to Dr. Avinashi’s assistant, Jackie, who dedicated herself for what felt like many hours over two separate visits to help find me the perfect glasses. If you want an honest opinion and incomparable patience, ask for Jackie to help you pick out the best glasses for you!

Eye Nirvana does exist. This clinic is fantastic. I've been wearing corrective lenses for 40 years and feel this clinic is the best I've ever been to for understanding eye health. Located in the Lower Lonsdale area in North Van it is very easy to get to. All the equipment is state of the art, and the Optical Experts are well versed in all sorts of eye health issues. Honestly, I also sort of assumed all eye exams were the same. Until I went to Hollyburn. The entire staff was so welcoming and it was such an enjoyable experience. For the first time ever, I had an optometrist who explained to me what she say on the scans of my eye (rather than just "looks good") and gave me tips for eye health, rather than just the basic check. I feel great trusting my eyesight to the staff here. I never usually buy my frames in store (preferring the less expensive online solutions), but it was honestly such a fun experience to shop in store that I went for a more designer frame than normal. The clinic itself is absolutely beautiful, and I so appreciated their COVID protocols, mask policy and social distancing. I felt very safe and so well cared for--and they also didn't pressure me about purchasing glasses, in fact Dr. Prpic was super transparent and steered me away from investing in expensive progressive lenses pending my upcoming cataract surgery. His referral was the best possible choice and all the pre and post op checkups and visits have been thorough, excellent and with precision. When I phoned in to advise that I got stuck in traffic and might be late for 10-15 minutes, instead of saying fine, she basically told me the protocol is 15 minutes, otherwise I will get charged! You could lose my business just for that reason!

Went in there tonight with full intent to sit down, get measured, and have a new set of lenses for my RX that I already got renewed in August 2017. I was in there a week ago asking if this can be done (I have a pair of glasses I hate and wanted to use another frame for my current RX) and they said "Sure! Bring in your RX and then we can set you up!". Went back in tonight with my RX and they were fumbling over what to do, the receptionist had no idea what I was asking about and had to get a tech from the back. The entire time they were trying to MAKE me get an eye exam (I am 35, have had glasses since I was a baby, and know when my eyes need to be checked). Since I was not due for an eye exam, I told them I am confident in having my this RX in new frames as I hate the ones I am using now. They pushed and pushed for me to get an eye exam. I finally said "Look, I know my eyes and they have been really stable for years now. I hate the glasses I have on my face and want to use the ones I have in my bag." After about 15 minutes of me saying, no I don't need an eye exam, the receptionist gave me their card, told me to email in my RX and they will get back to me when they are ready to help. The place was not busy, there were loads of techs there to fit me in and take measurements. I was willing to start going there to do my bi-yearly exam and get glasses/lenses from them on the regular. Instead I felt talked down to, and dismissed. Will not be going back.

I was due for a Cataract Surgery on both my eyes. I went to various Ophthalmologists for an opinion whether I should go for a regular lens which is covered by MSP or go for the special TORIC IOL lens at a sizeable cost. I have heard lots of stories about failure and success rates on both these lenses. Not being medically inclined, I was very confused and did not want to take a chance of diminishing my eye sight at any cost. After having a meeting with Dr. Pavan Avinashi @ Hollyburn Eye Clinic I felt very comfortable in making a decision as to what route to take, though money was not an issue when it concerned my eyesight. Dr. Avinashi took his time, explained me in detail using visual aid as to how lens & cataracts work and what happens after the surgery etc. etc. I was very pleased with the information I got from Dr. Avinashi. He was totally unbias and explained me pro & cons of each type of lens. I felt very satisfied with his explanations and was able to make a decision as to what lens to implant without any hesitations. The staff at Hollyburn eye Clinic were very friendly & courteous and the office environment is excellent.

I would like to give a shout out to Hala with her superb customer service. I had my progressive lens and frame picked out with another rep that didn’t work out for me. I couldn’t see anything with the new glasses and I was told by 2 other staff that my eyes need adjustment and I should wait at least 2 weeks. I felt it was not right, I was very upset and worried about the $$$ spent all gone down the drain. Anxiously I went back to the clinic to address my issue, Hala spent time patiently to discuss my need and she found out the frame that I ordered was not the right fit for me. She ended up went extra miles to swap out a new pairs of glasses for me. Even though i ended up spent more $$$$ but it suits my need. I had an eye exam with Dr. Katherine Nounopoulos, I thought I needed to change my eyeglass prescription. During the exam she noted an indicator for a possible tear in my retina. It was after 3:00 pm on a Friday but her staff were able to get me an appointment at the Eye Care Centre at VGH that same afternoon. I was re-examined and the ophthalmologist (Dr. Greg Stin) determined my retina was torn. Within an hour (Dr. Khoi Tran) performed the laser surgery for the repair. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Nounopoulos for her expertise, and her wonderful staff for expediting a quick resolve.

She stands in her own class service wise, understanding of her industry and how she treats people. Her service is by FAR superior. Before, I always had an issue with eyeglasses done elsewhere. Ever since I came at her clinic, never had an issue, glasses are always done perfect and it's such a pleasure to wear them either for comfort and style. I am a really big fan of her work and the fact that she is our own doctor with her own local clinic, worth supporting 1000%. There is also a wide variety of sunglasses at her eye clinic, which I have found to be better priced than other regular mall shopping sunglass stores. at Dr. Nounopoulos clinic you get specialized advice to your own custom needs with a wide range of options if you need to modify something. The assisting ladies don't hesitate to make you well informed before you make a decision. I would give her 10 stars if I could. My mother is of the same opinion too. I was feeling very confident in my choice of going back to hollyburn after 4 years, until I left. My husband was waiting with my son and nephew in the lobby while I was in my appointment. When we left my husband told me that his experience was the quite opposite of mine and here is why: he stood at the front desk in front of the receptionist for about 8 minutes before she rudely asked him what he needed. He wanted to inquire about the services as he's been to other places for his eye care. She was super snippy about answering his questions. He's verbalized that he will not ever return and I'm now second guessing my son's first eye appointment with hollyburn. I Will be talking to upper management asap. I believe this place has grown too fast too quickly from their West Van location, where it was more quaint and service was superior. Very hard to get a convenient appointment, I waited 4 weeks for an afternoon appointment. This location now has a lot of staff that seem to be too busy to help within a reasonable time, as they are always busy, even when calling, I am often holding for a while before I could get them to answer. This last visit, I waited at the front desk for 20 min (after coming back the 2nd time) and was unable to get satisfactory service to my enquiries and left without glasses, yet again. I followed them from West Van and was ok with commuting now from Burnaby but will no longer bother.

This was a great place. I didn't know that optometrists also can check up on eye injuries. I have been having lots of eye pain for the last few days, and instead of going to a walk-in clinic, I was glad I found this place. The doctor looked at both my eyes and their health. It is not just a place for glasses- definitely a place to get your eye examined for other concerns too.

Dr Nounopoulus is professional and efficient, while remaining personable and concerned about her patients. She did extra testing on me because of my family history. The bright, new clinic has a fabulous new camera that can take pictures of the retina without drops to dilate the pupils. I have to say I've found the go to Eye Clinic for myself and my family. From the quickly secured appointment (same day is unheard of) to the thoroughly professional experience I was truly impressed. Dr. Avinashi patiently explained the technology and process he was using as I had never seen much of the new equipment that Hollyburn has invested in. And seeing the actual structure of my eye and where to look for changes as I age (sadly inevitable) was very cool. I was given great assistance in selecting the best pair of glasses for my needs and fully expect that when they arrive I'll be completely satisfied. And BTW all of this cost me no more than my last experience at a "chain" eye glass company with 1/2 the service and expertise. Highly reccomend.

Will not do business again at this place. I was kicked out and asked to wait to see the eye doctor outside of the facility, on the bench, on the street. Reason: I was wearing a face shield instead of a mask, although I informed the staff that I have a medical condition preventing me to wear a mask and I have a mask exemption granted by my doctor. Lack of empathy and understanding of the situation.
