For those looking for a quick review. This is the best eye care you’ll get. Go here!! Now, for those wanting the story, read along. On our family Christmas visit, my need for contacts and glasses replacement was in high demand. I couldn’t wait for my appointment back home in a month. My bride and I began the impossible task of finding a center that was open two days before Christmas; was taking appointments; and would take our insurance. After exhausting the entire list for Redding, we took to Chico and found hope. All three impossibilities were met without hesitation. The office had the most amazing elves adorned in sweaters. Kindness and smiles everywhere. And the place was full of patients. Not one person upset, frustrated, or angry during their waiting. That’s a miracle all by itself. Sage was our first contact. She was the sweetest elf!! That girl is the personification of kindness. I was taken back by Shelby for my testing. Adorned in tasteful ink and a generous smile, she was professional, kind, and sweet. We need to start a Go Fund Me for her to get a real Shelby. Finally, when the doctor took to my care, he was smooth, chill, and kind. He assured me I would see better and enjoy the holidays. What he said that really struck me was this, “We are a practice that won’t turn you away. We will squeeze you in and get you taken care of. It’s who we are.” This is the absolute best care I have ever received and wished more practices followed the model.

I have been going to North Valley Eye Care for 9 years and I could not be happier!!! The doctors are outstanding! Both of my parents had their cataract surgery from Dr. Barthelow (Dr. B) and my entire family has had many "eye" issues over the years. Every time they handle things with the utmost care and experience. The Optical dept. has a great selection and I am always happy with my glasses. My husband was seen for years for glasses and cataract surgery and laser surgery his eye was swollen and he could not see out of it the last 6 months said he had a scratch on his cornea and they could do nothing went to an eye Dr in oregon and they said he had an eye disease that was treatable he already has regained sight bad office get a second opinion

My family and I LOVE this practice! All the doctors are so tentative and nice. My mother was being "treated" for dry eyes at another clinic for 9 years and they never went further than giving her artificial tears. Dr. Merry treated the root of the problem and gave her other treatment suggestions.

Did not give price up front. Stated I would not need glasses and would have my eyesight back. Then sent me over to admin. There is where I was told that lazer surgery was not covered. I would have to pay $1750 per eye. This was a blow as I was not told this until I was scheduling the surgery. The standard surgery was covered but at a price. I would still need glasses and my stigmatism would not be fixed. Why was this not gone over during the 6 months process. Also my last bust was 45 minutes late but if you are late 15 minutes you must reschedule. Yes the staff is great but information not told to you. I am upset as I thought all would be good now ???

Just wanted to take a moment to comment on my experience with North Valley Eye Care/Ridge Eye Care. I recently had cataract surgery through them with Dr. Rudick, Dr. Barthelow & their amazing staff/team. I want to let everyone know what a positive experience & wonderful outcome I had. I wasn't the model patient, but they were awesome & guided me all the way through. My results far exceeded my expectations!! Anyone deciding on this for themselves, do it! Run, don't walk! It's life changing! You won't find a better team!

Edit: they called and made it right, they had misquoted me over the phone because the receptionist didn't bother to check to see that I was an existing patient I was quoted 100 for an exam for contacts, then I called back to make the appointment and all of a sudden it's 400 this is after they already charged my insurance for an exam but contacts are apparently separate and they want to do the exam again. Just find someone else.

Doctors might be great but optical Dept is horrible. My $800 dollar coach Sunglasses were damaged by them and extremely unfashionable to say the least. Bent like the number 7 wrapped in crinkly thick clear plastic and this clear visible nose pieces. They said my head size made that happen but the ones on the floor fit perfectly. They didn’t call or help at all. I filed a complaint with the manufacturer myself and won. I’ve never done this myself before and missed the part to take my lenses. So basically I have an extremely nice pair of coach glasses that I can not see with! They never returned my calls and Jessica was always out sick when I called but did and said whatever I needed to hear the two times I went in just to get me to leave feeling hope. BEWARE if you don’t have LOTS of money to literally just throw in the trash! I’m sticking with online cheap ones or readers now because I can’t afford designer anymore because of them!

We were long time patients of Dr Shaw, and decided to stay after the business was transferred to Dr Barthelow. last month I needed cataract surgery. I felt like the Dr was pushing a new machine that Medicare would not cover at a cost of $5,000 per eye. I chose to have the surgery Medicare covered. During the surgery on my right eye I felt a painful scratching. my eye ached for weeks witch was not what I had been told. After more than a month my vision in my right eye is still worse than before the surgery. I told everyone in the clinic, my eye is worse than before surgery. Finally last week I got to see Dr Barthelow ,He spent less than 10 seconds looking at my eye as I told him my eyesight in my right eye is still worse than before surgery. He said both eyes were healing well as I told him something is wrong with my right eye. He huridly got up and walked out of the exam room and as he walked into the hall I overheard him say to the girl flowing him "Don't answer their questions, they only ask more." I feel Dr Barthelow has shown contempt for my concerns

I have been a patient of North Valley Eye Care for almost 5 years and would highly recommend their office. The staff is friendly, professional and personable. The doctors truly listen to your vision concerns and does preventative testing. The optical selection is fantastic, they have Ray Ban, Michael Kors, Coach and Kate Spade just to name a few. I was quoted 2 weeks for my glasses and a week after placing my order I received a call that my glasses were ready. I get a lot of compliments on my Kate Spade gold glitter glasses!
