I had a very enjoyable eye appointment at Southwestern Eye Center on January 17, 2017. The front office receptionist was super friendly and funny. We were even a bit late due to traffic but she was so nice about it. The technician who did the routine checkup was very warm. The opthomologist, Dr.Patel, was so very understanding and explained everything so that I understood what was happening. Overall, an extremely enjoyable appointment. I scheduled an appointment about 3 weeks ago to see Dr. Horsley on January 22, 2018. On Friday, January 19, 2018 I received a call from a young lady named Jazmine. She left a voicemail stating that they did not have my authorization on file & I may have to reschedule my appointment. I called back with all of my authorization details and told them that I would bring a copy to my appointment. Around 1pm on Friday Jan 19th I get another phone call from Jazmine stating that I needed to have a field test done before I come in and the only opening they had was 3:30pm on Friday . Of course, I couldn’t get that done because I was at work. I asked Jazmine why I wasn’t told about this much sooner. She stated “rudely” I don’t know. I didn’t schedule your appointment. Yea, you didn’t schedule my appointment but you made sure to call me this morning about an authorization and had me get all the details to you just to tell me that I can’t be seen.I have pulled my records and found me another doctor. Stay away from this place. They are very unprofessional. Thank you Southwestern Eye Center for your EXECELLENT PATIENT CARE!!

I like my doctor, but the rest of SW eye just does not care. Today I arrived for a 1pm appointment. After waiting an hour and watching arrivals after me come and go, I asked why I was still waiting. The person at the desk simply did not care. At 2:15, 75 minutes after my scheduled appointment I left. My doc was the only provider in the office today, so it is not like those people were seeing someone else. If the office is that far behind schedule, why not give me the option to reschedule at the outset or leave and come back. Having me sit in a patient filled waiting room, especially now, is totally disregarding of the patient. I do not understand why medical providers think their time is so much more valuable than their customers.

I was more then a little annoyed having to wait over 25 minuets passed my appointment time, for a simple eye exam. Your staff on the other hand was very professional and courteous, and the young technician was very thorough and helpful when it came to performing her part of the exam. With that being said, I’m having a difficult time figuring out why I did not get a new optical prescription when I was there the first time, now I have to wait another month to order my new glasses. Though it's the fastest doctor-time I have ever encountered in my life with any medical professionals, just a couple of minutes with the doc - not counting any tests or procedures, I really wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Dr. J Patel has been my eye doctor there along with Dr. Horsley recently. Both are great and nice, just feel like I have to voice my concerns in seconds or I won't be able to. The entire staff is nice, almost never any problems with anything save for miscommunication with new employees, which is anywhere. I give a serious 5 stars and have never thought of changing, even though it's a long drive for me. Great place because I feel I'm in good hands.

Eye exam was pretty much routine. The problem lies with the personnel that refuse to do what is right. I have eye care insurance -Spectra..through United Healthcare. They billed UHC Medical side of the plan & billed me a $70 co-pay. I’ve tried on numerous occasions to get help to no avail. They even told my husband when he stopped to talk to them about this, that they would correct it. We were to ignore anymore billing.. Well, I had already paid half of it just to appease them until they got it straightened out. They obviously had not intention of correcting the situation. Instead of getting my $35 back and a much deserved apology, I received a letter from their collection agency. So please folks..BEWARE.

Today (11-12-2020) was my third attempt to reschedule an appointment with SW eye center. I had an appointment for late February (before the Pandemic hit) with an associate MD at SW...not my regular MD...Dr. Patel. I was called two days before the appointment and told the Dr. was going on vacation...appointment canceled...after waiting almost 60 days! The managers at SW Eye Center, either do not know or do not care that their schedulers are rude, unprofessional, and apathetic. When I called today the person that initially took my call did not ever give me a greeting or state her name, then she disconnected me and I had to call back getting a scheduler that put me on hold for 11 minutes...and transferred me to a completely different person. After being told they had no appointment dates until late January...I explained I would be finding a different eye clinic, which I am sure means less than nothing to this "conveyor belt" medical practice...but that's how I felt after calling them...less than nothing. The one star I am forced to give this business, if for Dr. Patel. She has always been kind and professional. Deborah Martin Sun City, AZ.

My experience with Dr. Patel is excellent. My most recent experience with the office has not been good. My insurance denied payment for an eye exam. They indicated that it was sent as a routine exam and not a medical exam given following cataract surgery. I contacted SW payment office to request SW to send in a revised request for payment. They said they could not do it and gave a number to call. I did and was told it needed to go to payment office. After informing them I was not able to get any satisfaction I was told I would receive a call from the clinic before closing. No call came yesterday or today. I am considering looking for another eye center if this is the way business is handled at SW Eye Center.

Dr. Patel is disappointing. I was diagnosed with glaucoma 2 years ago. When I went in for a follow up with her recently, She told me I didn't have glaucoma. Since my sister had lost her eyesight to glaucoma, I was upset and confused. You should NEVER tell someone that they don't have this disease, if they do. I stopped using the drops because of what she said... now I am using stronger drops because my condition has progressed. Shame on her!!

Called Jan 26, and the Service Representative would not transfer me to the appropriate person to get an eye estimate, without first giving her vital information to "set up my file" for that other person, who then would still need to call me back. I'm in the process of calling several different places to get quotes on cataract surgery, and find this process deplorable. I don't want to get on your mailing list, and I don't want to provide sensitive information. There is no excuse for this. Run your business appropriately! Have a 'reasonable way' that people can receive a broad range of estimates, rather than have them go through all that. You'd probably find your office a LOT more productive, and thus could also reduce the 44 minute hold time I had, just to be told I had to set up a file first. After much back and forth, the lady finally told me, "I believe it is roughly $2500-$2800 per eye." There you go - hope that helps many of you avoid having to give chart specific information. I'm pretty sure this is mode of operandi is against reasonable HIPAA laws to ask for this information based on estimate requests only.

My old doc sent it 4 times. I emailed them 6 times, and faxed them 2 times. Costs me time and money and frustration. 1 min it takes to call / email me back you received it. Then I go in and tell them this and they laugh. They say they'll print it out for the doc. I sit down with the doc. He doesn't have documents. I had to say twice to him to check with his security , finally he has them in his hands. It takes an entire army of people to get a fax to a doctor.

Incompetence. Went in for an eye exam from Dr. J. Patel and to update a prescription in mid-May. I was told by Dr. Patel that they would place an order for my prescription and that I would be called when it was available. On 27 June, I stopped into the office since I had never received notification[s] and they had nothing there. I was asked to call "Veronica" at their Maryvale office. I did and found out that she ["Veronica"] had never received an order from Dr. Patel. She ["Veronica"] went on to say that there was no record of any updated prescription. If someone cannot be trusted to complete a basic patient record and order a simple prescription, I would not consider advanced levels of treatment from that Doctor. One star rating is the minimum allowed, but I would accurately rate as deserving Zero Stars.

Originally I was to have my eyes done at Barnett dunley Perkins. Surgery was set for May 19th and just a couple days prior to that I was told that my insurance would not cover it even though they had an okay from my insurance company. I was very disappointed with them and was referred to southwestern eye center. There I was treated very well did not have to wait nearly as long as I did at Barnett dunley Perkins. I am now scheduled for surgery on the 29th of July and I am looking forward to it. Hope to give you more feedback when it's done.

I booked an appointment for a routine yearly eye exam which is included in my insurance. The person who made the appointment first said this exam was not covered by my insurance after asking numerous questions. He checked again -after I insisted- and confirmed it was. About a week prior, I received an email asking to go online and fill out the required -and more comprehensive than the usual-forms. Less than 6 work hours prior to my appointment I received a phone call informing me that to keep my appointment I needed to obtain a referral from my PCP. I was also told they could have reached out to my PCP had they known who he/she was. I responded that their pre-visit forms includes the pictures of both sides of my insurance id card showing clearly my PCP name. She could not see it and was not interested in solving the problem of her organization. According to her this was my problem if I did not get the health service I needed. I strongly felt "if you need our services, you have to do as we say" attitude. I tried to contact Davis Vision through their web site which is a total waste of time. It requires certain information to process your message. Then they respond with a system generated message that they need to be provided with more information that they did not require in the first place. I am disappointed and would like to let their organization and their potential clients know of my experience. I believe the patients -consumers- need to speak up and let such organizations kniw of their shortcomings.

I am disappointed I can't do negative stars. My dad had surgery scheduled 3+ weeks out, paid the amount THEY told him to pay that insurance didn't cover. He pays it and didn't hear anything else. Shows up day or surgery to be told "you owe $2,400 before we will perform surgery"... After around a half hour of wasting time, my father told them to cancel the appointment and he would go elsewhere and have Cigna revoke payment. They have been promising his out of pocket money back for several days now. Each time he calls, he gets the run around and then the line goes dead after 20+ minutes. No check still. He has since found a new surgeon who said he does NOT need the expensive special lenses that Southwestern told him he needed. Also no money out of pocket. Stay far, far away from this place.

But they were not honest and turn it into the collection agency. So very disappointed in this place. Had been going there for 14 years and this is the treatment you get in return for your loyalty. Everytime I go there ,it take at least 2-3 hour for just simple eye exam. I have appointments at 8:30 but I have to wait almost 45 minutes to get check in. Then I go to the room for the nurse do the exam in 5 minutes. After that, they put me in another waiting room for other 30 minutes wait. Finally, I got to see the doctor, we talked about my problem for quick 5 minutes. I thought i will done for the day but no. I have to wait a f*cing 30 minutes to get schedule for next time visit. It completely insane. I m not recommended this place

I did not get to my appointment i got to the waiting room alot of people there I checked in they gave me a mask you put on over the mask I was already wearing they gave me a tablet to fill out I did the best I could the tablet requested that I enter an emergency contact I do not have one I live alone my wife passed away in 2019 so I don't have one I could not continue unless I input one so while I struggled with that a nice lady came out and apologized and said there would be a 45 minute to 1 hour delay so I left very upset and went to work
