I had LASIK at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons about a year ago with Dr. Lohman and Dr. Greiner and my vision is still perfect. The staff was very friendly, helpful and helped moved me through the process. I am so happy I had LASIK, it was a great decision. The actual surgery was not scary at all.
I'm writing a review here because there's no option on the website to give feedback (lots of great testimonials, though--interesting). I can't complain at all about the technicians, the wait time, the waiting area--all of that was great. The greeting I received by front-office staff was perfectly friendly as well--since someone else mentioned they had a different experience. My only complaint is that my doctor, Dr. Zajac (fka Dr. Hastings) was not at all understanding that I have a strong reflexive response to having my eyes touched! You'd think as an eye doctor she would expect that some of her patients have this problem, and understand that it's not something we can control! I was in for an exam because it had been over ten years since my last one, since I don't have any problems with my vision/eyes. So of course I don't have to use corrective lenses or eye drops, and I'm not used to anyone messing with my eyes--even myself! Everything was going fine until the glaucoma test--where something actually has to touch your eye. Before, I had always had the puff test, which worked for me because you don't know exactly when it's coming. But with the new test, you know the instrument is about to touch your eyeball, and my reflexes kicked in every time. The tech, who was the first to try administering the test, was really understanding. She said the doctor would try and see if she'd have better luck.... The doctor didn't do anything differently other than try to rush me through it thinking that would make a difference. She referred to my behavior as uncooperative in an aside to the tech as if I wouldn't know she was talking about me, and generally made me feel like a three-year-old who was refusing to put on my shoes. As an eye doctor, she should know that it's instinct, and reflexive, for people not to want their eyes touched, especially when they're not used to it. If anyone is ever able to get me to take the pressure test for glaucoma, it will be because they made me feel comfortable, not because they tried to force me. I was honest with her and said I don't think you're going to be able to do this test--why would you? It's the same test the tech tried to do, and she was more empathetic, so why would it work better with you? You could see the passive-aggressive anger in her fake smile as she doc-splained her reasons for proceeding as she had, and the importance of the pressure test--clearly not understanding that it was in no way a conscious choice for me to resist having my eyeball touched! It wasn't that I didn't understand, thank you. I may go back to Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons--as I said, my overall experience was very good. I LOVED the techs. But I will never be seen by Dr. Zajac (fka Dr. Hastings) again. *** Since writing the above, I have received a very nice email from Dr. Katie Greiner at NEOES, who saw my review and spoke with Dr. Zajac. Dr. Greiner and I had a good discussion via email about my complaints, the circumstances (including an irregular delay in sending an email follow-up asking about my visit), and the teaching moment this has been for Dr. Zajac. I'm not changing my review, because I think it's important for all doctors to understand that the way they treat their patients matters for the success of their practice/career. I'm leaving my review up with this addition, and I openly invite any of Dr. Zajac's patients who have had a similar or different experience to write their own review. I look forward to hearing how she applies this lesson to the way she deals with future patients.
Went in for annual eye exam since I have age related macular degeneration. Have always found Dr Esparaz very thorough and will to take the time to explain her findings in a way I'd understand. Thank you!
Good doctor and staff, but I waited over an hour for each visit (3 visits).
Best and friendliest doctors and staffs you could ever find! The staffs are friendly yet very knowledgeable and well-trained. This practice is highly efficient and despite how busy it can get, they are able to keep everything under control. I don't know how they do it but certainly, they are doing a GREAT job! Thank you NEOES for a great experience
I have been using this eye doctor since moving to the area and I have always had great service when I come here. All of the people I met were super nice and helpful and made me feel comfortable with the whole process. I would recommend them to my friends and I have!
I discovered Dr. Jones through a friend. Dr. Jones is the second eye doctor that I have seen here in the area.. At once, I could tell the difference between this place and previous incumbents. Dr. Jones is similar to having a scientist/tennis rockstar/bar owner at your local pub wrapped into one. He is so thorough and precise, to explain the procedure to make you at ease knowing the fact that is you're in good hands. He also has outstanding bed-side manner and will keep you entertained throughout the whole process. His staff makes you feel at home as well. I was seen pretty quickly upon arrival. I was there for my LASIK appointment, staff was so patient to make sure that I am getting the right measurement and doing the eye calibration correctly. Well, it's dang important, so they better take the time. Dr. Jones came also to check how I was doing and tell me to take a deep breath, and re-do the test when I feel comfortable. I was able to re-do it successfully after the third tries. When you walk into this place, you can sense that this place knows what they're doing and genuinely love what they do. They have selections of glasses, and everyone is happy there. You can spend months looking for the right doctor to do your LASIK/contacts/eyeglasses, but I think you should try this place out. Having been around the Beverly Hills block, Manhattan, and San Francisco, I have to say that I am surprised that this kind of place exists here in Northeast Ohio. The service and professionalism surpassed my expectation and it has set as the "gold" standard when I choose a health care provider. When you have a moment, check out his credentials, very very impressive.
Everyone was friendly, I didn't wait long, and my exam included a lot of valuable information. Thank you!
Very nice staff!
My eyesight has stabilized and I can see better than ever. Thank you Dr. Muckley! This place is amazing. All the people who work here are wonderful. :)
If I could give zero stars, I would; that is all they deserve. I have spent months trying to get their billing dept to properly send the claim to my optical insurance. They claim they are sending it; however, my optical insurance keeps telling me they are not getting anything from them. Instead of trying to help me resolve this, the personnel at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons have told me to just pay it, instead of trying to figure out why it is not getting sent to insurance. They are very rude and unprofessional on the phone when I call, and that's only IF I get someone to answer the phone. Several times I have called, during posted business hours, and it just rings and rings, then an automated voice comes on with "good bye". It hangs up after that. I had the same issue as the other patient with ordering contacts. Mine were the correct prescription, but it took several phone calls to even get someone or order them/help me. No one would call me back. They used to be a good facility, you could tell by the number of familiar faces you would see working there, but something has changed in the last few years. We have been patients for the last 11 years and will be finding a new eye doctor.
Dr. Muckley was very help full , good listener, very kind and very caring. Dr. Muckley fixed my medicine that I need it she talked to my insurance I really like her please choose her as your eye doctor you will love her
Eye care is very good, but they are never answering phones, nor calling back when you leave a message. I'd think the one calling in is as important as those in there. It also seems they have enough staff, someone could answer phone!
The waiting time is really bad, I have been to the Kent location a few times for my work and I have been stuck in the waiting room for over 45 minutes each time. They take you back for you to just sit for another 30 minutes + before seeing the the doctor, takes another 30 minutes to be takin to the checkout. The staff is nice but time management is Awful in this office. .
I went for an eye exam so that I could get some glasses. My eyes have changed during my pregnancy so I need some to see better. Dr. Muckley saw me at the end of my eye exam but a student doctor did the actual exam. She was the NICEST medical professional I have ever experienced in my entire life. She made me feel so comfortable, she was genuine, kind, humble... she just made me feel so happy. I loved her and I hope that she does well in her career. I just wanted to come on here and give her five stars. Dr. Muckley was amazing and kind to me as well. I loved my experience here. I just want to thank the staff for being so kind and especially Magnolia (I believe that’s what her name was, the student doctor).
So I called The hotline and need immediate assistance and within five minutes Dr. Rudy gave me a call back and said if I needed him to come meet me that he could be at the kent office within the hour, mind you it was 630 when he called me back and said that it would take him 45 minutes to get there but he would be there. He took care of the problem and was very professional. Thank you so much Dr. Rudy and the rest of the team, Dr. Vincent you are a very wonderful person as well you guys do a great job. Now for the person was complaining about the ancient chairs find something else to complain about that is absurd you are going there to get eyecare Not lower lumbar support Shame on you!!!
Every time I've been to the stow location they are atleast 30 minutes behind on appointments. Then I sat around for 90 minutes to get fitted for contacts.
Visited the Kent office this time. Front desk staff were very kind. Waiting room was crowded. Time to wait for the doctor was more than an hour, but that's not unusual in any practice such as this. The tech who performed my initial exam would do well to be warmer to patients -- we're the reason she is here, after all. Knowing my name and taking a moment to settle in would help. Perhaps they need to allow more time? Dr. Jones is knowledgeable and thorough.
My experience was wonderful I did not have to sit in the waiting room very long or the doctor's office to see the doctor the assistant that takes your information in the room was wonderful very polite the doctor was amazing took the time and answered all my questions.
I was a new patient at this office and after one visit, I will not be going back as I had a terrible experience. Getting an appointment wasn't a hassle but that was the easiest part of the whole process. Upon arrival, the doctor I saw for an annual visit was very cold and not very welcoming. A few weeks later, I called to order contacts and they took my information down to call me back to order and then they never called back. This happened twice. The third time I called the person who helped me was not the friendliest and when I asked for a receipt to be emailed, they said they would do that but then it never happened. I finally got my contacts in the mail but they were not the right prescription. I called the office twice during working hours to resolve this issue and both times the phone rang for two minutes and then an automated voice said "good-bye" and I wasn't able to even leave a message. When I finally got ahold of someone, they didn't understand what I meant about receiving the wrong prescription, laughed at me and said they were going to call me back in 5 minutes. I waited almost an hour to receive a call back, and they said there was a second (updated) prescription on my account that was overlooked and that's why I did not receive the correct contacts. They told me the correct contacts would be ordered and that I would be called upon their arrival. But then I was not called like I was told. Overall, they have been very frustrating to work with and I have not been pleased. Edit: Was contacted after this review was posted and discussed my issues with them and they were very receptive to listening to me and making things right.
My appointment was on time and the staff was cordial and efficient. Dr. Muckley was caring, knowledgeable, and professional. I felt that she listened to my concerns. She showed the test results to me and compared them to last year's on the monitor. This gave me confidence in her diagnosis and recommendations. Sight is precious!!! I would recommend Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons.
My appointment was at 9:10 AM, and I was quickly taken care of at that time. The staff were all very polite, pleasant and professional. My thanks for the excellent service and care provided. Kudos!
I was able to get an appointment quickly for my toddler (emergency situation). Everyone was helpful and kind. Dr. Zaczyk was very patient with my squirmy little one. I recommend Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons and we will go back for all our families ocular needs.
The employees don’t answer the phone. I’m just glad they are only an eye doctor and not an ear doctor.
Won't even be going there after the scheduler was extremely rude. She hung up on my twice while calling (by accident), and then was rude to me when I was asking about setting up an appointment at their Family Eye Center. I won't be going here, clearly customer service is not a priority
Wait times are ridiculous. They consistently over book.
The female doctor was excellent- our daughter has an eyelid flutter that is very rare and was diagnosed by this doctor; who also had the very same condition! What are the chances? We were very pleased; also front desk staff was very nice and polite.
Very pleasant.
Dr. Esparaz is a gifted ophthalmologist. She has been caring for me for 2 years. She first saw me for a fairly urgent problem, and the office got me an appointment at 0800, 30 minutes after I called. I was totally impressed with the way she handled that acute issue. I now have to see her every 6 months. She is thorough, patient, technically sound, and has a great bedside manner. She answers all of my questions and doesn’t try to rush past me. I have nothing but good things to say about the office staff as well. Everyone is very efficient and cheerful. My eyes are in good hands. I could not be happier with Dr. Esperaz and the staff at Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons.
A very professional, high-quality eye professional establishment. The gentleman who did most of my testing (Nick) was great...and my doctor (Dr. Hastings) was great - very proficient. The only area of improvement I might suggest is that the folks who greet and assist patients put on a friendlier face. The greeting everyone receives when they arrive is a bit chilly. But I highly recommend Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons!
Was very happy with my exam appointment with Dr. Jones. He is professional and cordial and does not hurry through the appointment. His friendly demeanor makes it easy to discuss any concerns. I would highly recommend him and Northeast Ohio Eye Surgeons in Kent, OH.
The first time I went I had a good experience because the doctor was informative and friendly. The front desk people were nice as well. The second time I went I felt disrespected and I am never going back again. The doctor said I was being ridiculous because I used eye drops too often. I didn't think it was necessary to use such an emotional and unprofessional word. There are other words that are more appropriate to use. Furthermore, he was not being clear like the first doctor was. The first doctor explained why I had such condition. I was also given clear instructions. When I said I don't know what I should do and he said there is no set rules for my condition with a dismissive tone. Overall, during the entire session, the tone of the voice and attitude were just negative. Just because a patient has limited health knowledge that doesn't mean that he or she should be treated like an idiot. A total waste of time. I should have just googled it online or asked around.
Very professional, very courteous, very friendly and best of all you get the best care you could ever ask for. You walk away knowledge and with charts to keep you on track for 1 month after surgery. So you know exactly when and what drops you are supposed to use. I love north east Ohio eye surgery. This is my second cataract eye surgery and will never go any place else for my eye surgery.
They are very personal and they care very very much about their patients
This place has no idea what time management is. It should never be a 3 hour process too get an eye exam. You see 5 people to get your eyes checked. Nobody is qualified to do more than one thing?? You have one test done then get put in the waiting room. Twenty minutes later someone else calls you, asked the same thing performs one test and sends you too the waiting room again. After another 20 30 minute wait someone else calls you ask the same questions performs one test and sends you out to wait another 20 or 30 minutes. Then after your 3 hour eye exam you see how costly there glasses are, far more expensive than others. I bring my older family members here. I would never use this place for my own eye doctor.
very satisfied long time patient.
Awesome place all the woman that I had knows what they are doing and very friendly and the Dr really knows her stuff about eyes Doctor and stuff are a one
I had an appointment with Dr Lohman and had a cateract removed on my right eye in June 2020.When the.eye healed my vision was not focused. My far vision was blurry. I had my left eye cataract removed by Dr. Lohman next and as it healed my vision was also blurry. I was under the impression that the vision would be clear and I would need glasses for reading only. I am very disappointed that my vision was not as I expected and I will have to wear glasses ???? for distance and reading after the surgery. Dr. Lohman is a very good surgeon, I just thought this situation would end better. I am a less than satisfied patient. The office is clean and the staff is very professional. ,But that won't help with this issue Sue Shew
They have taken great care of my eyes but the wait time at appointments is ridiculously long.
I was told I had 2 Cataracts n they needed to be removed. During the surgery my lens fell apart n I started waking up. He loudly told me not to move which was a joke. After that I had to go to a retina specialist who had to put another hole in my eye to get out the debris. I since went to Cleveland Clinic where they told me I definitely didn’t need cataract surgery.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Jones and Dr. Rudy and the entire staff! They are everything you should expect from medical professionals. The staff at St. Clare's Surgery Center are exceptional and very caring. Thank you for an incredible experience.
Wow let's start with the ancient chairs that you sit in the actual examination rooms. Then watching my toddler being asked to identify the ancient pictures on the wall , one which baffled me was a 1955 Ohio bell desk phone. Are you kidding me a 20 year old couldn't make out that figure let alone a toddler. The rest of the pics were old and outdated and distorted. I got the feeling they were just directing people down the path of failure. Hhhmmm $$$ signs, prescription glasses etc. Do yourself a favor and make sure you take your kids to a well established and UPDATED facility this one for sure hasn't sunk any money into it since it opened I'm guessing back in the 60's.
I was in for an annual exam. The staff was pleasant, enjoyable and professional as always. Dr. Muckley is awesome!
The cost of my sons frames was not disclosed until the sale was nearly completed, and my husband didn't want to restart the process. Then when my son's glasses came, they were horrible. We took him back to the kent office and the employee who helped him select those frames. She agreed they were not correct but had been stretched way too big for his face. Although the error was admittedly on their manufacturer, we were denied a refund! They said it is only their policy to restyle, not refund. We will not be doing business here again. There went my monthly grocery budget.
The doctors are nice but the wait times are horrendous. My elderly parents have had to wait for way too long in the lobby. It's not right. Unless the doctor is performing a resuscitation then I do not want to hear the excuses. An assistant went to lunch and came back all while my mother was waiting. Be firm and walk out if you have to. They seem to forget that our time matters too and that its very hard on the elderly to sit that long in a waiting room. Your appointment time is like a ball park figure. They need to improve significantly on this.
