I had Lasik Surgery (All Laser, Advanced Custom Wavefront) performed at Lasik MD in Victoria on November 6th, 2019. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and reassuring during the entire process. My surgeon was Dr. Ghislain Boudreault, who was also very friendly and welcoming when I entered the operating room. He explained briefly what was about to happen, and then talked me through the procedure assuring me it was all going well. All told it seemed like only 10 seconds per eye, for the actual Lasik, and less than fifteen minutes in room itself before I was back out and resting. There was no pain during the operation, only a bit of discomfort at the part when they have to keep your head and eye from moving. It's been about six days now and I can see as well as when I had my glasses. Things seem to be progressing well and I have my first check up with my optometrist in a couple days. If you are considering Lasik, I would definitely recommend checking in with Lasik MD in Victoria for a consultation. On a sidenote that in no way reflects on Lasik MD, I would recommend that you get your ride to pick up your prescription drops ahead of time before picking you up. I stopped on the way home and through a series of unfortunate events had to wait about an hour to get them. It all worked out in the end but it would have saved quite a bit of discomfort to have had them ahead of time.

I had the advanced custom Lasik with Lasik MD done in Victoria 2.5 weeks ago and it went really well - Dr.Gan was the ophthalmologist. Everyone was very polite and pleasant and made a nerve racking experience seem not quite so bad. I just had a check up with my local optometrist today and he said my vision was better than 20/20 and that there was no sign of my astigmatisms which is amazing! Very pleased and will definitely recommend to others.

I am less than 24 hours out of surgery and I can't stop saying "wow". After 25+ years of relying on glasses and contact lenses this newfound freedom is truly amazing. I felt very comfortable, informed and safe have my laser eye surgery performed by LASIK MD. They were very thorough in performing preliminary tests before and on the date of the surgery. I received LASIK eye surgery 1 year ago by Dr. King at this location. It has been something I have wanted to do for many many years, but was always so nervous. I had booked a free consultation and was amazed at the smooth, professional service at the clinic. I booked my appointment right away and everything was laid out clearly for me. The day of surgery came and Dr. king made me feel comfortable right away and answered any questions I had. The procedure was extremely quick. I was in a lot of pain immediately after, but they got me eye drops right away. I did have severely blood shot eyes from the suction and found the days after very uncomfortable, but the clinic sends you home with clear instructions and drops. However I could see clearly the next day!!! I am a year post- op and can honestly say “I wish I had done it sooner!!” I am very active and love swimming and to not have to wear contacts or glasses is LIFE CHANGING!!!

I had a great overall experience at LASIK MD in Victoria. Everyone was very helpful, attentive and really nice. The staff probably answer the same questions 50 times a day, but are still being great and patient about it. I never felt like I was bothering them. I'm glad that I actually got what I paid for: great service, good experience, and amazing results. I'm only a few days out, but so far my vision is great. No problem driving at night or overly dry eyes, which were main concerns for me (everyone's experience is different). Very comfortable surgery as well. I travel quite a bit for work and was happy to be able to arrange follow up appointments literally across Canada at another location and with the option of having my own optometrist to do the follow ups. Post Op Care for at home are very well laid out and easy to follow. You can tell that they found a reciepe that works and thet stick to it, which makes it easy for the patient to follow as everyone has the same answers and suggestions, no confusion anywhere. Only draw back is those glasses they give you. They are so cheap. They are super thin so they hurt wearing them during the day and especially at night (digs into your ears and side of your head, and I have a small one). I brought it up to them and that is kind of the one thing they didn't have a fix for. When everyone is paying upwards of $4000, you would expect something comfortable and higher quality. I wear my own glasses during the day and I try wearing them at night, but then I have the worst sleep because I'm worried about my eyes if I don't wear them or the glasses hurt me so I wake up.

Overall, my experience with LASIK MD in Victoria was positive. The staff were very helpful and kind, and the office was clean and welcoming. I found the website very frustrating when trying to schedule an initial consultation. The website also gives you the option for an in person or telephone consult, so I opted for the in person. I was contact before my apt saying all apts were being held virtually, which makes sense given the current global situation, however I was confused why this would have been an option for booking initially. The connection was poor during my consult and was switched from a video call to a telephone call. I was then informed I would need an in person consultation, which was slightly frustrating as this is what I had initially scheduled. Nonetheless, I booked for after the holidays. The initial consultation was easy and stress free. I was able to schedule my surgery day at the end of the apt. I booked with Dr. King as I was recommended from a friend who had seen him in Edmonton. I was nervous, but the reassurances from people I knew that have gone through the procedure were helpful. Two weeks before my surgery I was called and informed that Dr. King had cancelled all of his March dates. I was offered surgery with him the following week, but unfortunately given my work schedule and already reorganizing things I wasn’t able to make that happen. I opted to see Dr. Gan the day after my initial surgery was booked. The day of surgery was a lot of waiting. They tell you to expect to be there for 4-5 hours. I was in the clinic for close to 4 hours, having only spent about an hour between pre op eye tests, paperwork, and the actual surgery. It truly is a pain free procedure, albeit uncomfortable. Dr. Gan was fantastic and I would recommend him for anyone looking in the Victoria area. I was quite nervous and he did a great job at reassuring me and was very patient throughout the procedure. I didn’t feel rushed or dismissed, and overall things went very well. The follow up apt was a breeze, very quick and hassle free. I’m almost two weeks from surgery now and although still having some vision fluctuations, mostly at night (which is expected) things are getting better each day and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

My surgery experience at Lasik was phenomenal! It's such a comfortable environment, very hands on with all questions you may have about the procedure. My surgeon, Dr. Gan, and everyone else in the clinic are the perfect blend of professional, personable and comforting. The experience itself is so cool too!! All I had to do was look at a green light for about 5 minutes (per eye) and I could see better than I ever had before. I had my Lasik surgery done 9 months ago at this clinic. From the day of the surgery, I never live like a normal person. I have issues with double vision( looking at any electronic devices ), ghosting of image, terrible starbursts. My vision was blurry since the surgery. I went their follow-op so many times and they told me my problem was just a tiny prescription left. However, a pair of glasses can't solve my vision problems. I still have vision problems in dim light environments .the glasses only make me see more clearly in the very bright environment. If I am indoor or at any dim light environment, I can see two faces two nose like that. I did a lot of research and consulted many doctors. I know my problems called high order abbreviations and decentered ablation. I had a high prescription and large pupil size. Which means I am not a good candidate for LASIK. However, at lasik me clinic, they think I am a good candidate for lasik. They may just want u see 20/20, they don't care about your vision quality. The golden standard is corneal thickness. After the surgery, I have my patience and I keep talking with the technician (u don't have a chance to talk with your surgeon ). And they just keep telling me my problems were just dry eye and tiny prescription. My vision is good now and I am legally drive, and I am the 1% with those problems. They offer me an enhancement.they said they will contact me as soon as they reopen their clinic(because the pandemic). I understand that, so I was keeping waiting and live in hell. However, nobody contact me after they reopen until I call them. Funny thing is, The technician told me ’your corneal mapping is beautiful’. I don't know where the beautiful come from. the fact is I pay money to ruin my eyes. not only the surgery fee, I spent more than 8k to buy all kinds of glasses and see doctors. Still live in hell now. I just want to tell anyone who wants to do the surgery think carefully and do some research. visit more clinics. choose one doctor who spends time on you. It's not just money thing. It's your eye.

As someone who had worn glasses or contacts since the age of 10, I finally started to look into eye correction surgery at 25. (For those curious, my Right eye was -5.0 and my left was -7.5). I went in for my free consultation mid-May 2013 and I had my procedure done a couple of weeks later. It has now been 4 years since then and I could not be happier with my decision to have LASIK done. Every time I have gone into LASIK MD; whether it be for the free consultation, the procedure itself, or any of my routine follow-up exams; it has been a breeze. Also, since my eye sight was so bad pre-procedure I need to go for bi-annual check-ups and if my vision reverts I can have the procedure done again for free. Having been to a few eye centres for consultations, Lasik MD was the clear winner. I loved how thorough their exams were prior to surgery and how great their staff was at explaining everything. They gave me LOTS of information and it was all relevant to my particular situation so I felt like I was making an informed decision. Everyone was amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and kind. They each went out of their way to make sure all my questions were answered and that I had everything I needed at all times. The surgery itself was so quick and easy! I went in for the free consult based on seeing the advertising promoting lasik at 490$ per eye. The testing and consult was very professional. I was shocked after when I was told that a lasik procedure for me would cost the custom rate of 2140$ per eye. They said this was due to my prescription but I am able to purchase eyeglasses online and due to my prescription being basic my lenses are free. I feel that the 490$ an eye is just a scam to get people in charge their maximum custom rate and push the 5 year financing option on customers.

After years of blurry vision and not wanting to get glasses, I decided to go through with LASIK eye surgery. I booked my appointment for my free consultation online and was in the clinic within a week. The staff at LASIK MD were thorough with the testing, which allowed them to recommend the best procedures for me. The testing took 3-4 hours. I was lucky enough to qualify for the lowest advertised price ($490 per eye), so I went for it. I was able to schedule the surgery a week and a half after taking the free consultation. On the day of the surgery, they went through all of the testing again, which took about 4 hours. I had Dr. King as my surgeon and he did a great job. My eyes were in a bit of pain for a few hours after the surgery, but what do you expect after you've had your eyes cut with a laser? Within a few hours, I could already tell that my vision had improved (though I didn't keep my eyes open for very long on the first day). After three days, my vision had returned to what it was when I was younger. All of the staff were very helping in making me feel as comfortable as possible throughout the whole process. They had free cookies, apples, and hot beverages in the waiting room which was awesome. Thanks, LASIK MD!

My only complaint is having the prep room acting as the same room as the recovery because when you are sitting with another person recovering after the operation, you want talk about the experience of the operation but don't want to be too explicit lest you give the person with numbing drops waiting to go in a panic attack.

I thought the experience was actually much less dramatic then anticipated. Tested better then 20/20 only 12 hours after surgery. Experience minor halos around LED type lights but I expect this is temporary as they have drastically reduced in size after only 12 hours. Personally had no pain and my eyes were only somewhat uncomfortable the first night. After 18 months my vision has somewhat deteriorated and I now test at 20/32 so not bad but also not perfect. I had 20/80 before surgery and remain happy providing my vision doesn't drop below 20/40. Fortunately I did opt for the lifelong policy so they will repeat the surgery at no cost if this is the case. May be worth considering

I got great and speedy care at Lasik MD. Since COVID, they have made every effort to social distance the patients at the clinic. Unfortunately, though, all of the prescreening appointments happen the day of, so I didn't have too much time to think about all the details of my particular situation. All I had was a call and some emails beforehand, which was fine given the circumstances, but it made clear communication a bit more difficult than I think it otherwise would have been if I had the operation done last year. It's just been 6 days since having PRK urgery and so far couldn't be happier. Everyone at Lasik MD has been fantastic, took great care of me, answered my questions and helped me to make the decision to proceed, but were never pushy, and even on the day of surgery were clear that I could cancel if i wasn't 100% sure. Post op care was great. I didn't have a ride home after surgery so they arranged someone for me. She took me to the pharmacy and then made sure i made it into my apartment safely. Great experience! All of the doctors and staff were kind, helpful and talked me through every step of the way which eased my anxiety leading up to the procedure. Went through a couple hours of thorough testing (vision tests, x-rays, etc) to ensure I was a candidate and then I was getting prepped for surgery. They gave me numbing drops right before I went in and the whole procedure lasted less than 10 minutes. The surgeon and nurses made me feel super comfortable and right after leaving the surgery room, I could already notice my vision was improved. It’s been 10 days now and my vision is 20/20. Note, I am seeing halos at night and experiencing a bit of dry eye in the day but this should get better with time. I got the mechanical cut and the custom wavefront options. Overall, one of the best decision I’ve ever made!

Staff and overall experience leading up to day of surgery was good. Upon making necessary arrangements to schedule time off and waiting 5 hours on the day of my surgery, a staff member was requred to pull me aside while being preped for surgery to inform me that they would be unable to move forward with the prodecure due to a faulty machine. While I do understand that it imperative to have a fully functioning machine to move forward with an eye surgery,knowing there was no other alternative other than to rebook several months later was extremely inconvenient. I've work glasses since I was in grade 4 and now, in my 40's i finally got tired. I've explored laser surgery a few times in the past, but the experiences I had were all focused on the treatment, and not at all about my comfort, fears, thoughts and feelings. Lasik MD staff in Victoria did both for me - gave me full confidence in the process and the product, but also recognized that I was a person first and patient second. From my first experience at the front desk with Trishna, then with Paul, Alex and Dr Purma, I had full confidence that my health was their first priority. And it was all done in a comfortable setting with no pressure. Later after the day of my surgery, I could see! Any my prescription was quite bad (-5 in both eyes). Within a few days everything was normal, and I didn't suffer from any of the dry eyes I was afraid of. The whole experiece was easy - from booking to paying. They have been fantastic will the follow up and very flexible with my time. I don't feel at all that I was forgotten after I paid my money. I would recommend this to anyone.

The good: - My eyesight is fixed! I had conventional Lasik done. Vision seems perfect. - Staff was very professional, polite, and accommodating. - The whole process is run smoothly and professionally. Everything was well explained throughout. The less good: - Their eye doctor who examined my eyes and determined my prescription warned one of my corneas had a couple weak spots, which had an outside chance of causing complications during surgery. After surgery I asked the surgeon if the weak spots were a factor. The surgeon had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. All is well with my eyes but a disconcerting communication issue IMO. - Part of the process is a meeting with essentially a salesperson. This meeting is framed as double checking your prescription and reviewing your options. While they do just that, they also try to guide you into custom Lasik over conventional and into paying more for warranty-like coverage. They are not pushy which is good. But they will try to convince someone who doesn’t really need custom Lasik that they need it. Do your research. If your prescription is relatively weak and your pupils not particularly large, you likely do not need custom Lasik, which costs exorbitantly more. - They don’t ID you. Worked out for me because I had just renewed my DL and was without photo ID. But I could literally have been anyone walking in there and had my eyes cut open. May want to rethink this Lasik MD.

I didn't feel respected, it's about my sight anyway, it's not like having a tooth pulled. I would add that there are a lot of consent forms and unfortunately they are not personalized (paragraphs are more or less crossed out) which makes it difficult to understand. An employee explained to me that the number of people who come by during the week should be so to simplify their task. In short, I refused the operation. If I understood correctly there are several types of operation and the one that was offered to me was different from those of the enticing advertisements. I understood that only the surgeon is required to respect his professional ethics, the others are traders who want your good. J'ai trouvé peu rassurant que les règles changent à quelques instants de l'opération et que je doivent en prendre connaissance et signer pratiquement sur le champ. Je ne me suis pas senti respecté, il s'agit de ma vue quand même, ce n'est pas comme se faire arracher une dent. J'ajouterais qu'il y a beaucoup de formulaires de consentement et malheureusement ils ne sont pas personnalisés (des paragraphes sont plus ou moins biffés) ce qui rend complexe la compréhension. Un employé m'a expliqué qu'à la quantité de personnes qui passent dans la semaine il se devait d'en être ainsi pour leur simplifier la tâche. Bref, j'ai refusé l'opération. Si j'ai bien compris il existe plusieurs types d'opération et celle qui m'était proposée était différente de celles des publicités alléchantes. Lasik MD and my surgeon, Dr. Kenman Gan, failed to provide an acceptable level of patient care. In fact, they failed to live up to the standards which Lasik MD set for themselves, and failed to discharge their professional and legal obligations as indicated on their website and in contracts. • Staff member approached me in the waiting room within earshot of 8-10 other people and asked me if I have medical condition X because I'm on medication Y. This is just unprofessional. Also, if there is a question about a medical condition or medication, perhaps a doctor could have discussed with me before the day of surgery? • Lasik MD is supposed to provide you with clinical counselling on surgery day, as stated on their website and documents given to me for signature. They did not. There was something on the contract-- the Vision Enhancement Plan-- that was only briefly mentioned in general terms in the emailed patient booklet toward the end, and a line for initial stating I had discussed it with my clinical counsellor, which I had not. I went to the front desk to ask my questions. Before I could pay and move forward with the procedure, I had to make a quick decision on this based on info which I only had because I initiated. • Absolutely no interaction with the doctor pre- or post-surgery to ask questions. They have you speak with one of the eye care specialists, who are not doctors, in the virtual pre-op. Their website states “your surgeon will cover the risks and complications that are specific to your needs” and “You will be escorted to the operating room where you and your surgeon will again discuss the procedure you are about to undergo.” The LEGAL DOCUMENT states “I have also discussed the procedure that I am to receive with eye care professionals and doctors at the Centre”. I did not discuss the procedure with a doctor at any point that day. • After surgery, you're supposed to go home and rest and adhere to the schedule of the anti-inflammatory eye drop every hour. But this is IMPOSSIBLE given that they don't fax your prescription in for you and only call your ride after surgery. Picture your open eyes inches away from a cutting board covered in freshly-chopped, potent onions. then multiply that feeling by 2-3x-- that's about what your eyes feel like. The LAST thing you want to be doing is waiting around a harshly-lit pharmacy for a drop that will (substantially) alleviate this! Based on my interaction around this and what I overheard of other patients' over the 4 hours I was in the waiting room, it is definitely not standard practice to fax. It's also completely baffling-- a walk-in clinic will do this for you, so why not a business where I had just dropped $4700? • It took some arm twisting to be able to speak with a doc after the surgery to get some of my questions answered when it should have been immediately available. My surgeon, Kenman Gan, works in numerous Lasik MD clinics in BC and Alberta. His manner in the OR can best be described as “brusque”; I felt as a cog on an assembly line, to be dealt with as quickly as possible. Nobody so much as gave me a wave or a gesture to indicate where I should go (I was blind without glasses before surgery, and disoriented with blurry, light-sensitive vision afterward). He also apparently finds time to moonlight as an ophthalmologist in Victoria. Let's hope his standard of care is a bit better in “real” medicine! I made the clinic director aware of my concerns. He offered to refund the $300 for the Vision Enhancement Plan, which was acceptable. I then asked him to reach out to other patients and offer them the same, but he said he could not, citing patient confidentiality (which is BS because I was not asking for any patient information). All in all, Lasik MD did not discharge their business obligations as indicated on their website, and their legal and professional obligations as indicated in the contract. The standard of care is unacceptable. I would strongly advise anyone considering surgery there to think twice, do your research, and be prepared to advocate for yourself!

Excellent location(s), friendly reception, comfortable waiting room. I had my surgery in Victoria and one week followup in Nanaimo. I found the Victoria office busier, maybe a longer wait, but not long in the scheme of things! I had a lot of questions after, which were answered quickly with a phone call. They provide numbers for after hours calls, and in case of emergency, which i found comforting. A lot of staff have had the procedure themselves, so it was nice to have answers from people who really knew. Its only been 3 weeks and my vision is better than it was with contacts before. However as a new team member at the Victoria clinic, it was a really great experience for me to learn more about the process anyway. It has also given me the confidence to recommend this to a few family members and friends. However, due to the covid restrictions, I was there for about 4 hours for testing and consultation. There were no snacks or bottled water available for purchase. Something to consider for the future. I had a great experience, but I am a little bit horrified to discover that the people they call "clinical counsellors" are actually sales advisers. In a province where people understand that a "clinical counsellor" is a master's educated healthcare professional, this is a violation of LASIK MD's clientele's trust. I wonder how many people go into that room believing they are speaking to a healthcare professional and put undue trust in the opinions of the "clinical counsellor" or expect them to hold emotional space for the difficult decision.

The people that work here were great to deal with. Both my conciliation and the day of surgery was a very positive experience. The conciliation was about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. Where they tested my eyes and then gave me some options to think about. Making the appointment was easy and the date was only a few weeks out. At home they called me and told me what I should do to prepare for my surgery. I needed reading glasses (2.25). I was only going to get my weak eye done(left) my right eye was a strong eye for distance. I did what they said. The day of the surgery they tested my eyes again I had a conciliation again to making sure I did what I was told and made sure I understood what was going to happen and made sure I was comfortable about it. They never once tried to push me into an more expensive way. The surgery was fast and painless. The drops after the surgery was more painful for the next few days. I can read my phone and newspaper without glasses now. It might not be for everyone but it is worth the visit to see. Wayne

They advertise virtually no down time but they aren't talking about their equipment. Waited from 9:45am to 2:30pm only to be told their machine is down! Not only is it a day off work and 5 hours of our lives wasted away but we were told all of the eye tests and exams leading up to the surgery would need to be redone. Seriously it's a 10 minute surgery and 5 hours of tests and paperwork. I fully understand and support making sure that the equipment is 100% operational. It is your eyes after all! But with the huge financial investment, paperwork, time and energy that went into this appointment, not to mention the other 10+ people still in the waiting room having no idea there was an issue. We would have appreciated another option other than just to rebook when it's fixed. A business who only has 1 machine to do its job, is of course going to be just as unreliable as its technology.

Overall, the service was very professional. Techs were great (remembered my name), optometrists were great, and the surgeon worked out well too (think I expected to be dealing with him more). Clinical Counsellor dropped the ball in my opinion, and had a poor (lack of) communication. Clinical Counsellor never did reply to my 2nd email, and thankfully the one receptionists checked in with me to inform me of my operation time. I was suppose to get informed of my check-in time 24-48hr before....it was 21 before my check-in. I nearly decided to no go through with my Lasik operation solely due to my dealing with the Clinical Counsellor. Everyone else in the office was great to deal with. I'd rate my experience at a 3.5 out of 5. It would have easily been a 4.5 if my interactions with the Counsellor had been better. I am only 2-3 days after surgery, and healing nicely. Happy with my results.

This was a huge and scary decision. It is literally life changing!! The staff at Lasik MD (in victoria bc) are fantastic! Friendly, nice and professional service. They have a terrific system of getting you prepared for your procedure. They are very clear on the details and risks and will always give you the opportunity to ask questions. They take very good care of you the entire time you're in the office. The procedure itself is very very quick. My time in the office was great! I had a very strong prescription(-7,-7.5) with an astigmatism, they deemed me a candidate for lazik, and now im healing up and able to see without glasses or contacts. The procedure and about 5 hours after sucked, but hey its surgery on your eyeballs and now i can see!!

I decided to get my procedure done at Lasik MD. When I went for my consult I wasn't sure about getting lasik done. When I went through my pre op with the Eyecare specialist, she explained to me what would happen during the procedure and the benefits of the Lasik procedure. The girl who did my CA was also the Eyecare specialist who assessed whether or not I was a candidate for the procedure. After listening to Eyecare Specialist and taking some time to make the decision I decided to the get the procedure done. The day of the surgery went very smoothly,the staff was extremely pleasant and reassuring and the Surgeon (Dr. Boudreault) was extremely kind and had an amazing bed side manor. The surgery went well and in a timely fashion. The next day I came back to the clinic for my 24 hour follow up with Dr. Purba. She was extremely informative and took extra time to let me know exactly what she was looking for and what the tests tell her. I left knowing my surgery was a success and could not have been happier with the experience.
