People make mistakes, and we respect those who engage with possible failings and seek to make them right. That's the sign of not just a good professional, but a good person. In any case, we had a great experience with Dr. Chan. She was professional, friendly, courteous, thorough, and refreshingly good humoured. My partner and I went in for back-to-back appointments and were planning on assessing our experience and deciding whether we wanted to make an appointment for our six year old daughter as well. As we felt comfortable and confident very quickly, when Tara (office manager?) mentioned they could fit our little one in too for her annual check up we figured why not? It went great! Our daughter loved the doctor and declared the whole thing "fun!". Note: My partner got new lenses and frames. Their frames selection, though excellent, is somewhat limited and I wasn't able to find a set of lenses I liked. No worries, they are happy to provide prescription only, or install new lenses in frames found elsewhere. Very professional indeed, no pressure to stay in-house. (Their frame selection includes numerous frames made with renewable resources, recycled materials, etc, so full points there!)

Professionalism with Efficiency and Warmth. Dr. Chan is ably assisted by Tara in reception. Unlike other opticians I have seen over the last 20 years, Dr. Chan's practice seems to find a great balance between making you feel valued, and providing great service. My new glasses cost LESS than comparables at Costco, and Zeiss lenses seem superior in a great quality and affordable frames. Also, the script was very accurate...the new lenses are perfect.

Dr. Chan takes seriously her practice of preserving the eye health of her patients. I have been cared for by Dr. Chan for a number of years…actually following her to her present practice. I reached out to Dr. Mei-Ling Chan after receiving a referral from my family doctor in regards to my eye watering constantly. After coming in for a consultation, the doctor prescribed eye drops, which helped my issue and told me to come back in a few weeks. Upon my return visit, I got prescribed medication, which rapidly worsened my condition, causing burn like damage to my skin and lots of irritation. I had contacted the office and shown pictures with what had happened, I was told, “I am the only person who ever had this reaction to this medication”. I asked for my money back for the medication but was only given a partial refund and the doctor would not even take five minutes to talk to me. No one in the office even offered an apology. I am very disappointed with this service and experience of going to this office and would not recommend it to anyone.

My wife had the opportunity to meet Dr Chan at the Barrie Lasik centre located across from her office, for post surgery review.Dr Chan was both unprofessional and critical of my wife's procedure. Dr Chan had my wife second guessing her operative choice that had been recommended by Dr.Tayfour , the eye specialist at the Lasik centre. She was rude and insensitive and ultimately dismissive.

My old optometrist had 4 doctors and approximately 172 receptionists and techs, so I kind of felt like their billionth hamburger. The care and service was okay, but the availability was strictly 9:30 to 5:30 which doesn't work with my job now. I found Dr. Chan searching for optometrists with evening availability. She was the highest-rated optometrist in Barrie, and the awesome reviews combined with the hours clinched it. Booking was easy. The office is conveniently located at the Eagle Ridge complex in one of the "side" buildings by the walk-in clinic. Dr. Chan's assistant was welcoming and friendly, and remembered speaking to me on the phone several days before. She was great with helping me select frames (which included some good options NOT owned by eyewear mega-monopoly Luxottica-- bonus!) and is the first medical professional I've met in nearly a decade to successfully directly bill Green Shield Canada, sparing me the hassle of paying and getting reimbursed. Double bonus! I'm so used to that inconvenience that it felt weird leaving without needing my debit card. Dr. Chan herself was friendly and funny, but also thorough and great at explaining things where necessary. She found an issue with my eye health I never knew existed, and she explained it and detailed followup options. She even took a moment to double check my frame and lens choices to be sure they were a good fit for my prescription. Simply put, Dr. Chan's office gets top marks in every category from me. My oldest child is ready for their first comprehensive (no offence intended to our family doctor) eye appointment, and my visit eliminated any anxiety I had about it. If you're reading reviews wondering if all optometrists are the same, or if it really makes a difference who you pick, stop here. They're not. It does. Go here.
