I highly recommend Valley Vision. My experience today was fantastic. I was greeted by friendly people. My pre work was done by a very nice young lady who patiently explained everything she did. I was then seen by an amazing student optometrist who also explained everything to me. I’ve had other experiences where I’m not sure I’m getting the right lenses but today was so reassuring. I felt really confident that the student and then later with Dr. Golemba got me exactly the right lenses! I was then seen by Sherry who helped me pick out really nice frames for hundreds of dollars LESS than I was expecting.It doesn’t get much better than that!

Having been under the care of Canada's top ophthalmic specialists and surgeons since my early teens, moving to Port Alberni and losing that access was of great concern. Dr. Golemba's advanced credentials in managing and treating complex eye conditions, including glaucoma and uveitis, coupled with his engaging manner, put my concerns to rest. Along with his expert and professional staff, from front-line reception (Krista), technician (Kerri), and followup / scripting (Sherry) - they provide comprehensive service, second to none, in my 50 years of experience. Not even an APOLOGY....... SIMPLY ACKNOWLEDGE ! Not happy with the staff here on Nov15 .... 10:30 am.... my better half went in to see about new Glasses and a repair and 6 workers didnt even acknowledge Her.... or even say one min.... But didnt even look at her.... Told her to go get her $2,000 Glasses elsewhere.... guess they dont want new customers... She was so upset never going there again............first place in the whole valley that didnt make her feel welcome after her first year in PORT ALBERNI 2customers #????

After purchasing my frames in Ottawa earlier this year at Laurier Optical, somehow one of the nose pads was lost. I returned to Ottawa and ordered the nose pads from one of the managers. I phoned long distance, was told yes we have thei returned to Ottawa went into the store to purchase the parts. Only to find out I had been lied to. I returned home to Alberni while shopping I ran into my optometrist I asked him where I could order the parts. Since they don't sell Nike frames, could he point me in the right direction. He pulled out his phone, took a few pics. He then said my staff will follow up with you Next day, I was called, your nose pads will be in the store in a couple days. I got the call, not only did they repair my glasses free of charge, they GAVE me the nose pads FREE. My daily glasses I purchased from Valley Vision, my spares from out of town .. Lesson learned... Outstanding service, your Valley Vision team really do rock. I love local, and service that is truly amazing Merry Christmas to all.

Cliff notes: Extremely long wait times / Very expensive / pushing unnecessary products. -- Sadly I had a less than positive experience. I made an appointment for general eye exam so that I could update prescription for new eyewear. Where the staff were all very friendly and seemed to be helpful this is where the positive ended for me. I was informed that the eye exam would be an hour and a half. I thought this seemed a bit long for a typical eye exam but thought it may have been do to added covid perceptions. About a half an hour into the eye exam I was brought into the optometry room where I was told that the optometrist would be with me shortly.... I waited in that room for an hour before anyone arrived! Not even a "sorry about the wait we're running a bit behind". At this point I'm already late for work and the eye exam hadn't even started yet! To top it off at the end of the exam an hour later they informed me that I had dry eyes and suggested I use their special drops that cost almost $100 and wanted to show me new eye where. Needless to say after 2.5 hours I had no interest and my basic eye drops that I use maybe once a year are plenty sufficient for my "dry eyes". Upon leaving I payed my bill to find another shock. The eye exam was $180. Beyond the most expensive eye exam I've ever had. It was so much in fact that my extended coverage didn't cover it in full and I had to pay out of pocket for the first time in my life. Needless to say next time I need an updated prescription I'll be finding another optometrist.

My wife and I recently visited this facility for a quick renew on my glasses prescription and contact lenses. We were pleasantly surprised by the precautionary measures in place for Covid19 as all staff members were respectful of distance and safety. The equipment they had available at this location offered extensive tests I had never seen before and was glad to get checked out there alongside my exam. We also found a great product that kept the fog off my current glasses due to breathing while wearing a mask for work. I will be visiting again for my next appointment.
