Virtual shopping with a human meeting...strange times! Tracy set me up (one online form to fill out)to have a Zoom meeting where we chose some different styles of frames for me to try outside the front door of FYI. She wore a mask and gloves, and had the selection for me on a tray. With a mirror and her professional opinion, plus a great sale price I am a happy customer! The only downfall is not being inside the store, but it's great to have pleasant professional care, even if you are standing in the parking lot!

The staff are friendly and efficient. They seem genuinely helpful but I have to say their policy of charging you $65.00 more if you want to use your own frame vs their packages which always include the frame is the biggest scam and environmental shame, which is why they get a 3 instead of a 5. My mother takes great care of her Frames and loves her current glasses. She needs a new prescription but if she wants her current frames she has to pay $65 dollars more to do so. That is just another one of those retail eye glass scams that makes you shake your head. FYI you could be better than this.

Everyone at FYIdoctors in Varsity has adapted well to COVID conditions. The space is organized and the people very pleasant to deal with. Everyone has been able to answer my questions and engage in small talk or deeper discussions as appropriate. This location also offers a range of times to book, making it easy to work an appointment around my schedule. I believe I have received great care for my eyes and solid advice when purchasing glasses.

Penny was very helpful in making a decision regarding a frame that fit and looked great. I forgot to ask her about warranty and repairs but I will do that when I pick my new glasses up.

This is a great optometry place. I have been seeing Dr. Seema Kamal since I was a child, and every time I go in the experience is better than the last. The front desk staff are super friendly, Dr. Kamal makes the time to answer all of your questions and never makes it seem like a hassle, and they have a great selection of high quality glasses, often with sales. In addition to COVID-19, I felt incredibly safe going into this office. Every possible safety precaution was in place and I felt totally taken care of. Thank you FYI Doctors staff, especially Kelly and Katrina and Dr. Kamal!!

I've been buying my frames and lenses here since 2016 and every time, Tracy and her team go above and beyond. There's a specific set of frames that I buy that aren't as common as other brands, making it difficult to try them on before I buy. Tracy has been able to have the rep make special visits with her portfolio, allowing me to try them on and ultimately, buy the right frames. The staff here are friendly, knowledgeable, and offer the best customer service I've had in Calgary which is why I only buy my frames and lenses here.

All of my family goes to see Dr. Wilson at EyeDesign and we love him! My husband and I both had very positive experiences but what sets Dr. Wilson apart is the service he provides for our young children. They have seen him a couple of times for check ups (starting at 1 and 3 years old) and it was great. We just recently went back in and my daughter requires glasses. My kids LOVE seeing him and ask to go back often. He is professional, relates well to kids and knows his field of work. I honestly can't say enough good things about him and how he has helped our family with our eye care. My kids think he is hilarious! Would easily refer him to others looking for an optometrist.

My appointments with Dr. Sarah Schoenthaler are nothing short of amazing. A previous review mentioned "Disneyland-level service", I would agree with that. However, service with the front end staff leaves me annoyed and frustrated. I ordered a pair of glasses on Dec. 27th and when I asked, was told it takes about 2-3 business days to have the frames sent out, lenses cut and be ready for pick up. That was a fortunately short wait period as I was out of contact lenses and my current glasses were not updated to my prescription so I was walking around impaired. I waited 7 business days and when I received no call or email about my glasses, I called the office on Jan. 5th and was told that they think it might be ready on Monday Jan 8th. Monday came and went without a phone call or an email. I called the office on Jan 9th for a status update on my glasses. Apparently they had arrived on Mon Jan 8th and when I asked why I wasn't notified the lady on the phone became irritated and told me I was already notified on Jan 5th that they would be in the office for Jan 8th over the phone so I should have known. Unnecessarily rude, and as I live across the city, by the airport I would not have driven down to their office based on "I think it should arrive on this day". My brother had a similar experience with his glasses. We bought our glasses together, and he actually ended up waiting 15 business days for his glasses. When he called to ask about the status for his glasses, he was literally told "Do not come down to our office until you get an email confirming your glasses have arrived". Well he went down to get some contact lenses, offhandedly asked about the status of his glasses and apparently they had been sitting in the office for who knows how long the whole time. We used to go across the city to this location because our doctors are amazing. But I think I'm going to look at other locations moving forward as the reviews all seem to indicate a decline in service levels.

I went to get my prescription glasses today. Had an appointment with Tracy Bell. Due to COVID-19 situation she asked me very politely to sanitize my hands, and prepared me for the appointment. She asked what my budget was for the frames, and let and me try quite a few, unless I decided on what I wanted. She also was willing to talk to my husband over the phone, as he had questions in regards to lenses. It was my very first time picking up proscription glasses in my life, and she had all the patience to offer help. She went above, and beyond for me to pick up the frames, and lense from the moment I entered the store, and I was finished my appointment she offered her business card, and came to the door to say good bye. I felt welcomed, and will be going there most definitely for my future purchases, and also recommend to my friends and family. Wonderful job done Tracy! You earned my business for life.

Dr. Kamal is awesome. If you genuinely care about the health of your eyes, book an appointment with Dr. Kamal. They've got the absolute best state-of-the-art technology in this office. The front desk aggressively pushes overpriced frames and lenses. And they want to charge you $10 for a frames adjustment, LenCrafters and Walmart does it for free. Greedy.

I recently had my routine eye exam with Dr Charles Klettke. Have to say it was a great experience all around. The place was very busy with activity yet all went efficiently and in a timely manner. This was followed by a great experience with Kelly, registered optician. She was very professional and helpful in assisting me in a good frame choice for my needs. She offered suggestions that proved wise. I felt confident in the process and pleased with the great selection.

Very disappointed with the examination, forgot my glaucoma test even though it was clearly acknowledged by the optometrist and documentation, spent a lot of money on glasses that were not fitted properly, my eyelashes rubbed against the glasses, selection of colourful designer glasses completely void. Would have recommended them in the past but their service, staff and selection have gone downhill. Would not recommend them to anyone. Found an optometrist who meets and exceeds in all three areas. Save your time and money and don't bother going here. There are a lot better places.

I visited FYi Doctors today to search for a pair of sporty, quality sunglasses. I have to say that Dionne, Tracy and Brenda were so pleasant, knowledgeable, patient, and even fun to deal with. I must have tried on 20 pairs of sunglasses knowing that they would have to sterilize and clean each pair during these COVID times (FYi Doctor’s COVID protocols are exemplary and the team was only too happy to let me try on sunglasses until I found the right pair). I found a great pair of sunglasses to suit my needs and I walked away very happy. Even my optometrist, Dr. Kamal, stopped by to give me the thumbs up on my choice. Thanks everyone! That was a great experience today. - Michael. Update: I visited The FYi Doctors Varsity location on March 29th to select a new pair of glasses. Finding a pair of frames that suit me has never been a strength of mine, so I was very appreciative of Michelle stepping in to guide me through a range of options to fit within my budget. Michelle’s experience with the latest styles (and matching those styles with the shape of my face), made the whole experience a pleasure. I also appreciated the fact that Dr. Kamal, my optometrist of 17 years, came out to see how I was faring; she mentioned that the pair of frames that Michelle had ultimately suggested for me looked great! I appreciated their opinions as it moved me away from my self-inflicted case of selection paralysis. ???? In short, it was another great experience at FYi Doctors! Thank you! Michael.

I would not recommend FYI doctors to anyone, especially to young adults/ University students. I ordered new lenses for my glasses and when they finally came in I had to make another appointment to get the lenses installed in my frames, which requires you to spend another hour of your time in the office. After waiting an hour and a half for my lenses to be installed, they were not the lenses I had ordered. They had also thrown my old lenses out into the garbage. When confronting the front staff about this they treated me like I was a child and pretended that I didn't know what I was talking about when they knew they were in the wrong and made a mistake. The front staff at the Varsity location are rather rude and unprofessional, in person and over the phone. I will not be returning to this location as it took 4 hours out of my day and I still don’t have new lenses. I left the office appalled at how staff in a professional setting can treat their customers with so much disrespect.

Dr Wilson is great but I don’t care for the front end service. I was ordered the wrong contacts (ie not what the doctor wanted to put me into) and I didn’t know what the doctor had prescribed so I assumed that the staff was ordering correctly. I called back a number of times about the discomfort and they assured me that everything was fine. Finally I insisted on an appointment and they found the mistake. I wore the wrong contacts for 6 months. Yes, I was given a month of free lenses. But I was uncomfortable for six months and told that it was normal. I needed new glassses and I felt pressured into buying very expensive lenses from their office. When I finally got them 6 weeks later the lenses were extremely thick. They told me that it was the type of lens that I had purchased that was the problem and that for my high prescription they never would have recommended the “cheaper” lenses (but one of their staff did recommend them). So I paid the difference for the more expensive lenses and waited another 6 weeks to get them. When they came back they were still very very thick. I took them back again and they told me that because of the shape of my frames the lenses would always be thick. Not sure why no one mentioned that two months prior. So they put the cost of my lenses towards new glasses and I had to pay for frames. I waited another 6 weeks. My glasses now are ok and I do appreciate them trying to fix their mistakes but I feel I could have gotten the same at lens crafters for half the price and ten times faster. I would go back to see Dr Wilson but I will be vigilant in checking the contacts that I’m sold there and I wouldn’t buy glasses there again.

The optometrists are experts and use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Whether it is a routine check-up, eye trauma, complex eye problems, disease prevention, or glasses frame adjustments, the staff have all been excellent. They also have been exceptionally kind to my children, my husband, and me, and have gone above and beyond to help us on many occasions. They make us feel like family. Had good service with doctor eye exam service however, wasn't happy with customer service. I had feels like doesn't care for the customers and wait so long time to get my new glasses more than 40 min wait! because I know no one doesn't care for me and they keep ask to other co workers to helping me. guys! Wow. I just had my eye exam at FYI doctors and it was great. I need glasses for work and the cheap pair I wore were basically done. The staff was friendly and the good doctor Sarah Schoenthaler answered all my questions (and there was a lot of them). With the Covid -19 crises the staff was down to four from the usual twenty and Sarah volunteered her own time to fill the ranks. Tracy the office manager showed me all the styles of frames from different manufacturers. She explained the differences between progressive and transitional lenses and the advances made in the last couple of years. I bought the best I could afford but with the outstanding warranties and the promotions I feel good about my purchase. Keep up the good work .

I would love to give them negative stars, only because the doctors has no sense there. I had an eye infection the doctor said there is an antibiotic drops that he can give, but he would rather wait 3-5 days to see if it will fix it will. Three days later I was on oral antibiotics for a week and antibiotic drops. Complete over use of antibiotics in trying to save on antibiotic drops.

Stay away from them Some (not all) of their doctors don't mind giving you the wrong prescription just to let you buy glasses and get your insurance money, they did that to me and my child, staff are terrible and pushy. My recommendation is to save your money and time and go to a better place

This place provides subpar service, my eye examination appeared alright, I was advised that I need new glasses, thinking that they new what they were talking about. I order a set of reading glasses and a pair of regular glass. All while trying on glasses the up sell pressure for special lenses. I wait three weeks for glasses to arrive, and on fourth week called an inquired what was taking so long, advise they were still waiting after another two weeks the arrive. I go to pick them up and they have only one pair of glasses I order. I try them on an everything appears distorted, I am told that that what happens with new glasses, I told them I do not care glasses are to improve vision not to distort it. I get my eyes rechecked and the doctor made an error. They reorder glasses another four weeks and they arrive I tried them again and still no improvement in vision, the doctor tells me to wear them for a week or so and they will improve my vision over time as my eyes adjust to them. I tried them for a few days and was see double and having headaches, I took them back and request refund. I went to another doctor order two pair of glasses, the two pair cost $476, the two pair I purchased from fyi cost $1,600. My new glasses work great. I would not recommend fyi, the doctors rushes through the examination recommending the special lenses and over priced frames. Frames made in China selling for $800 plus, get real. Buy your frames elsewhere.

Eye exam was quick and very nice optometrist. but after the exam i spent over an hour waiting for service. I even picked out frames and then was disregarded over by one of the sales ladies she cleaned my frames i touched and then helped someone else who arrived after me. That was quite disrespectful. Updated to 3 stars after the manager Tracy she helped me out and asked me my experience and she assured me that she will talk with her team aswell and told me she will do whatever she can to expedite my process of getting my glasses Updated to 5 stars Tracy was very courteous and nice to me and my fiance aswell as helpful i will be more than happy to return to this location

The staff at the Varsity location have also been excellent, especially my last visits to order lenses with Tracy. She was very patient and knowledgable, taking a great deal of time to make sure that I was well informed and ordered the correct lenses for my needs, as well as recommending repairs and fitting my frames properly. I recommend this clinic to anyone wanting a great deal of expertise and high quality lenses.

Way overpriced for an eye exam ($130). There are places in Calgary that do them much cheaper ($95). Overpriced products in general. I asked upon entering if they could check to see what I was covered for through my benefits and they insisted on ushering me through without checking. Eye exam went well and was the only reason I'm rating 2 stars. The eye doctor was friendly but mentioned Hylo drops ($40 dollars at their location but $25 online) and protective coatings ($$$ pushing sales). Get through to the front and they immediately begin to push sales of their frames and lens coatings. I again mentioned my benefits and told her I needed to know if they direct billed. Come to find out they do, however my benefits covered $100 and I ended up paying $30 out of pocket when I could have easily gone to another eye doctor in Calgary (down the street) who charges $100 or less and not had to pay out of pocket. The woman seemed irritated that I would not be buying my frames and lenses immediately. I recommend looking around at other places and don't let them pressure you into buying frames and lenses immediately after your eye exam. Also, you don't need to pay $130 for the eye exam when you can go down the street to Market Mall and pay $30-$40 less.

WOW! I was so impressed with FYI Doctors Varsity from start to finish. I’ve had the wrong prescription for a few years now but kept putting new glasses off worried about the cost. The prices were so amazing at FYI doctors I got 2 pairs even! (One pair of sunglasses). The lady helping me pick things out was AMAZING! She was so knowledgeable and picked things out for me I never would have chosen. Since then I’ve had SO many compliments! The lady who did the fitting when I picked them up was amazing too and I now realize my old pair didn’t fit me properly. Oh, and I asked for a rush on the glasses because I was flying back to Texas. They were done 9 days before they said they would be! Today I got an email from the lady who helped me pick out my glasses making sure everything is okay! I really feel like this place is exceptional and my eyes and I are so happy! I would recommend this place to everyone!

I have been a patient of Dr. Seema Kamal's for years and have always had a great experience at this clinic. Dr. Kamal and the staff are always very professional. She has sent me to specialists several times when she had some concerns and I trust Dr. Kamal's judgement regarding my eye health. My appointments are on time and the reception staff welcoming even when I am just purchasing other products like eye drops. The clinic carries quality eye wear. I have found the frames and lenses have lasted for many years and they replaced the lenses as my prescription has changed. The ladies are great at helping to find frame styles which look best on me at a variety of different price points. I have recommended this clinic and Dr. Kamal to my friends and family and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

I returned to FYIdoctors - Varsity after being away from Calgary for over 5 years and I am pleased to say that it is still by far the best place for quality optical service in Calgary. I was pleasantly surprised when the office manager, Tracy Bell, recognized me after so much time had passed since my last visit. Tracy has always been a true professional who exemplifies the high level of service and knowledge that is offered by every member of the staff. On another note, there are many businesses that talk about sanitation being important during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the team at Varsity has taken it to the next level. Their commitment to stopping Covid in its tracks was very reassuring and it made me feel comfortable knowing they really cared about my safety and wellbeing.

Tracy, at this location literally went above and beyond for me during an insane time. Not once but twice my family was put on 14 day lock down, and guess who lost their glasses. I had reached out on a local Facebook page and Tracy commented. She jumped at the change to help me, and she made it so painless. Then because I was locked down again I couldn't pick them up myself, and she once again accommodated me. They've gained a customer for life!

I have been a client of this clinic for ten years at least. An eye exam resulted in a new pair of lenses that were too strong and impossible to adjust to. The next eye exam resulted in new replacement lenses at a cost of 270.00 dollars but presented the same problem. My frustration resulted in a heated exchange with the front office staff, very unprofessional, after which I felt bad and offered an apology. Dr Schoenthaler, very professional, agreed to meet with me and we traced the problem back to a misunderstanding about the lens type I required, which was in my records. My new lens could then be replaced for an additional 200.00 dollars. An unexpected expense. I was considering returning until, several days later, I recieved a phone call from the manager of FYI telling me my behavior had been unacceptable and I owed the staff an apology. I pointed out this had been done and certainly didn't need a lecture. After which I was informed I should have dealt with her, however she wasn't there the day of the incident. This is the point I was done, never to return, not even to get my subscription.
