To this day this business gets a score of 3.4 stars out of 5 and the score has been based on 65 reviews.
As you can see it reaches an reviews average is discreet, neither too high nor too low, and it's founded on a very high number of feddbacks, so we can be quite sure that the valuation is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they are happy with the business, it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give reviews when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Ophthalmologist belongs to the category of Eye care center.
I was referred here by my family Dr told to show up 15 min early for my appointment. Then waited for almost 3 hours. I went to politely ask how long the wait was and was looked at like I was the biggest pain. If you can book anywhere else, do so.
One of the best cataract surgeries in the world.
Chose a different eye surgery centre. They are ALWAYS running late for your appointment no matter the day or time you book. I wish I read the reviews on this place before I had the surgery. Now, I'm stuck wasting time doing follow-ups that take an hour longer than they should because they either overschedule themselves or take their sweet time between patients. This was like this pre-covid-19 , so it's not because they are doing extra cleaning protocols.
I'm going to write a very detailed review for the ICL procedure, within the character limit. I hope people find this helpful. Both my siblings got had PRK done at Gimbel, so being very near sighted (-6 & -6.5) I wanted to get this done when my eyes stabilized. I got tested by two clinics, one being Gimbel ($200). The tester was fairly nice, the tests weren't the worst thing. After you are done your tests they bring you into a room with a doctor to go over your results. I was not a candidate for PRK or Lasik because of my high prescription and rather thin corneas. However Gimbels offers the ICL procedure. This is when they implant a lens inside of your eye. It sits in front of your natural lens and you can't see it from the outside. After the doctor I went to a counselors room. I was told they would answer more of my questions. I wasn't overly impressed by the lady I talked to. She didn't have much to say and when I asked a question she just kind of repeated what was on the info sheets she gave me. I did have a much better talk over the phone when I called later with more questions. They were helpful and got rid of my fears from some stuff I was really uncertain about. Day of the surgery you go over all the legal stuff and sign some paper work with a woman. She was very nice and helpful. Genuinely seemed like she was happy to be talking to you. Then you get another lady who assaults your eyes with a thousand drops and has no patience for your over reactive blink reflex. She also gives you the option to have the "calming pill". They bring you into the surgical suite. One side of the room is just glass. If you brought someone with you they can be on the other side and watch. They cover the eye that isn't being operated on with a plastic shield thing. Then they stick this like sheet under the other eye, like literally stick, they rip it off after. Then another sheet goes over your whole face and they clamp open your eye. they continuously make sure your eye is numb and put hydrating drops in like every 10 seconds. It feels like you are blinking even though you aren't. Dr. Gimbel was very calm and polite the whole time. He cuts slits on the side of you cornea to move fluid around and insert the lens. All you really see is a really bright light and just black otherwise. It didn't hurt it just felt kind of odd. Probably the hardest bit for me was to stay still, keep looking right at the light. Since my prescription was so bad I could actually see an immediate improvement. It was blurry, kind of like you have oil in your eye or something, but I could already see way more than I could before. Comfort wise my eye just felt groggy and sore. Like I just woke up from sleeping 20 hours. Recovery for me was very easy. I'd say after 2-3 days I felt almost normal. It wasn't painful at all, just tired eyes. They still got tired for a few weeks, but now that is gone as well. I did have halos at first, but they are gone. I do have one side effect which is rings. Not halos, but it's more like light is hitting the edge of the lens and I can see it. It's gotten better and it's really only in low-light situations. I was told this could take some time to go away. I was a sensitive 20/15 the day after surgery and I was still 20/15 in my check-ups. I'm 4 month post surgery and even with the rings I'd do it again. It's very nice to not have glasses or contacts for the first time in 17 years.
I went to Lasik based on these Gimbel google reviews and what a mistake that was. Gimbel was amazing! I had a terrible experience with lasik md and then once I got over that experience, I (reluctantly) went for a 2nd opinion at gimbel. It was night and day. Gimbel listened to me, they were professional and took their time. I saw a doctor on my very first visit (initial Ax) and worked with a dry eye specialist which enabled me to get PRK. I am currently recovering and am beyond happy with my experience. Gimbel cost a bit more and involved more work on my end (to get my eyes ready), but it was well worth my money, time and effort. This whole journey highlighted for me, the importance of visiting clinics and doing more than just a google review or internet search. I hope this helps anyone else considering laser eye surgery.
I had lens implants in 2009 from Dr. Gimbel. I did have a few problems with one (when they warn you there is a 5% chance there may be an issue, I'm usually part of that 5%). Dr. Gimbel, Dr. Labbel and all the staff I have dealt with in the clinic have been attentive, caring, efficient and professional. I highly recommend Gimbel Eye Centre.
If you have really high myopia, this not the clinic for you! The staff are really nice and I have nothing personal against them. After inquiring about corrective surgery, I just felt very uncomfortable with the competency of their staff to handle my prescription and post surgery follow up. Since that time, I’ve found other clinics in Calgary that have made me feel less stressed about needing two surgeries (ICL AND PRK) to fully correct my vision.
My experience was positive from start to finish. I researched new lens implants carefully and was glad I decided on Gimbel. I actually watched Dr. Gimbel doing the same procedure on my fiance on a TV monitor. He was 80! Dr. Gimbel is responsible for groundbreaking procedures in lens implants, just as he was for lasik corrections decades ago! His staff in Calgary and Edmonton were pleasant, polite, efficient and a pleasure to deal with. My sight is perfect... no glasses for driving or reading!
I had my lasek surgery done here. Right from the beginning the staff were professional and knowledge. I felt comfortable right away, they answered all the questions I had. On surgery day they explained everything that would happen and how the procedure would go. Dr.Gimbel did an amazing job. No more glasses! My vision is 20/20. While it's not the cheapest place to go, I also didn't want discount surgery, it was worth every penny.
My experience at Gimbel was from start to finish exceptional. The staff was friendly and very helpful in determining what type of eye surgery was right for the line of work I'm getting into (policing). I got the PRK proceedure done by Dr. Gimbel himself. The proceedure took about 20-25 minutes and was done. The eye drops needed after surgery are easy to take and are avalible right next door. There is a viewing room so loved ones can watch your proceedure. I was lucky and didn't have a lot of discomfort following (except about about an hour or two in the evening of the surgery) and had a bit of vision impairment for a about a week after. I went back to work 10 days later with about 20/60 vision. Now about 2 months later I'm seeing perfect 20/20 vision and even an improvement in my night vision. Being a guy whose had terrible (-8.50 prescription in both eyes) eyesight my entire life being able to see without glasses or contacts was delightful. Would recommend Gimbel to anyone looking for surgery to improve your eyesight. 110%. I can't thank them enough for the tremendous job they've done.
Had to wait 1/2 hr plus for 2 different appointments for my wife. Meanwhile walk-ins are getting seen faster (and the conversations took place in the waiting room???)!!!
The doctor and stuff are so nice, patient and professional.
Healthcare should not be like this. My appointment was at 3:30pm and I have shown up 5 minutes early as well. Three hours later it's 6:42pm and I still haven't been seen. Staff knowingly advise you that the wait time may be 1-3h and are usually at least one hour, so it baffles me why they wouldn't schedule you closer to the time you're going to be seen. When you are sitting in a chair, starving and your head hurts because you haven't eaten anything and couldn't read or do anything productive because of the dilation, you know you need to tell others to avoid this place at all costs. But if you can't, schedule your appointment in the morning because the place won't have much time to get behind then, compared to the afternoon. And pack food. Who knew access to healthcare would be such a struggle.
I hear there's a really good doctor coming to the practice named Dr. Baillargeon - really good guy, excellent clinical skills. Will be coming here if I move to Calgary
A complete other level above the rest. Highly recommend this centre. My laser eye surgery and pre and post op care was incredible. Thank you Dr. Gimbel and staff for my sight!
I went into the Gimbel Eye Centre for an examination to see if I was eligible for Lasik eye surgery. The only reason why I went here OVER LasikMD is because my Mother got lasik done here many years ago. After arriving at the eye centre I was informed that I had to pay a $200 NON REFUNDABLE deposit and if I was not eligible, I would not get that money back. It's funny because back when I had this examination done, the site says that the examination is free... After getting the examination done, I was told by one of their doctors that I was unable to get Lasik done because one of my eyes were weak and that my only option would be Cataract Surgery ..(which is way more expensive than Lasik by the way). I decided to go get a second opinion (and thank god I did), I ended up going to LasikMD in the South to get a FREE EXAMINATION with no need of a deposit .. and to my surprise I was eligible for Lasik at this other business. I asked the people at LasikMD if they were sure because when I went to get a examination done at Gimbel Eye Centre, they said I was unable to get Lasik surgery at all and I could go blind if I do. I ended up getting Lasik surgery at LasikMD .. and the surgery went very successful. I did try to ask for my $200 back from the Gimbel Eye Centre, cause how ridiculous would it be if you're not eligible to get surgery and you lose $200 too? And ontop of that, have you ever heard of a 23 year old who got cataract surgery? Not very common. The purpose of me writing this review today is so that no one has to go through what I did and lose $200 over a stupid non-refundable deposit and get false examination results that could have put me through an even more painful and expensive surgery that was not necessary for me. My advice to anyone considering any sort of eye surgery, especially lasik; go to Lasik MD near Macleod. They are very informative, I felt confident with the doctors they had, and they provide a free consultation and examination to see if you're eligible for eye surgery. Never once did I feel that they want to cheat me by taking my money for unnecessary/hidden fees or services.
I had really bad eyesight prior to my surgery. Last year I had ICL done in both eyes as was recommended by Dr. Gimbel. After my ICL my left eye was still out of focus and needed a bit of a prescription. Dr. Gimbel could tell that I was unhappy with this result and offered to have PRK done to the left eye for free to fix up the correction. Since then my eyesight has been perfect. Thank you Dr. Gimbel and your staff for the professionalism you displayed towards me, I would definitely recommend you to others who are considering eye surgery!
I had Lasik done 20 years ago for astigmatism at Gimbels office. Now that I am 61, I need both distance and reading glasses. Not worth the money and/or possible complications.
I had refractive error correction surgery done on both eyes by Dr. Howard Gimbel on Friday December 8, 2017 around 12 am. I had myopia with high astigmatism and was warned about all possible complications after having LASIK at the time of my initial assessment and the day of surgery. I had assessment done at a different place few months before and was told my day vision will improve after LASIK but I was guaranteed to have glare and halos at night due to a moderate correction required. I was hesitant and wanted to hear as many opinions as possible before making decision. My dentist recommended to visit Dr. Gimbel. The day of my initial assessment I met Dr. Marcella LaBelle and was amazed by how much care she took in explaining my condition and making decision whether I was a candidate for the surgery. She wanted me to come for another assessment and have Dr. Gimbel to review my results before decision can be made. Few days later I was contacted by associate and got approval for LASIK. A mixed emotions of excitement, anxiety and fear of unknown left me sleepless the night before. On the day of surgery I finally met the great man who agreed to help me. Not only the procedure was without expected discomfort but the result after having my first eye operated made me cry happy tears. I couldn't remember seeing clearer in my entire life while wearing contact lenses or glasses. No glare, no halos the night after surgery, 4 hours sleep recovery time and I was at the mall at 7 PM shopping for a new pair of sunglasses with no prescription. Dr. Howard Gimbel and Dr. Marcella LaBelle changed my life. I couldn't be more thankful for the second chance I was given to see all the wonderful things in life. I can now see stars on the sky. Thank you for bringing excitement back to my life!
Thanks everyone for your reviews I do appreciate them all, I've read all of them the good and bad, and my conclusion is that I'm staying away from this location these are (my eyes) and I'm not risking any procedures here at any cost... financial or medical, Thanks again everyone!
Dr Warian is caring, kind and a good clinician but keeps his patients waiting in excess of 2 hrs to see him. A gross disrespect of the patient and their time!
Really happy with the results of my Lasik procedure. I felt well taken care of at Gimbel.
100 times better than Lasik MD. This is difference between an organization that is committed to your health and well being vs. an organization that is committed to spending your money even at your own detriment ( i.e.- Lasik MD ) Courteous, great service, amaxing staff! Dr. Labell is fantastic, very professional, loved it! Thank you guys for setting the bar higher!
My husband had Lasik summer 2017. The treatment went OK, nothing exceptional nor bad. Although he wasn't happy with his vision after treatment, we understand individual result varies and not blaming the procedure in this review. The reason for 1 star - We paid over $5000 for Lasik and additional dry eye treatment as well, for 1 eye. He lost the receipt to make health claims and when asked to get another copy, they charge $20 for a reprint of the receipt! Seriously??? When you paid thousands they still try to nickle and dime you as much as they can. $20 isn't a lot of money, but the morality of the fee is what makes me cringe. We were there to get the print out of the receipt, it wasn't asked to be mailed or anything. Needless to day, my husband won't go back there to treat his other eye.
Mixed feelings about this place. Currently several months after surgery and my vision is great, however I sometimes get intense reoccurring pain during the night due to my eyes drying out. I was definitely not prepared by Gimbel for the level of pain after the PRK process. I was told that 'This is the most painful eye surgery' onlyafter I had already had one eye completed, and gone through the first 72 hours of healing. I called their emergency after hours number due having several complications with my eye (Nothing major, but on their 'call us immediately' list) during the first 48 hours of healing. I left several messages as instructed. No one ever got back to me. I was fairly upset, due to having 'emergency' symptoms, and getting no follow up. When I mentioned this on my next appointment, I was told, 'That has never happened before', and 'Other places don't even have after hours contact numbers, you just have to wait'. Which is exactly what I ended up having to do with Gimbel. They definitely tried to minimize the situation, and made me feel like the number was just fluff, and not an actual part of their service. I was told they would look into the matter, and never received a follow up.
I had lasik. I am moderately happy with it. I found the staff and helpers to be mediocre, at best. The ophthalmologist was ok. He was nice enough but in hindsight they overstated the effectiveness of lasik. In my opinion i went from needing glasses to seeing things far away to needing glasses for reading things close up. My eyes are always dried out and I get blurry vision often. Honestly, Lasik is being overhyped and heavily marketed. Gimbel eye center is selling you a private medical service for profit. Keep that in mind. Have a nice day.
Easy had mine for more than 20 years Very happy thanks for the vision Vic
I’m voluntarily driving a senior to her 11:15 “appointment”. She checked in prior to her appointment and we’ve been sitting waiting for well over an hour. It’s now 12:15 and she’s being told there are 7 people ahead of her. Gimbel why do you call it an “appointment” when it is no such thing? 12:45 now and they just called her in. This is not okay Gimbel. Quite unacceptable.
As a young child, 8-9 Dr. Gimble was just out a school, and he saved my eyesight from a traumatic accident in Calgary Alta. I owe my pictures to you and your staff Dr. Gimble, there is not a day goes by that I don't think about day in my life, and so thankful you helped me when you did. That was 50 years ago my friend. <3 Please keep it up what your doing. Forever grateful Don
My experience with the PRK consult and surgery went well. However, it has been approximately two years and the results are already fading fast. My eyes started to revert not even two months after the coverage ended to complete any needed 'tune up' work. A lot of pain and discomfort to not even have two years! Now if I want to go back I am stuck with PRK as my only option and was not aware of this when it was completed.
I had PRK done on both eyes (-6 prescription) in January by Dr. van Westenbruggee. The experience has been great, with no pain, only discomfort for a couple hours after the contact bandage (day 5 post op) was removed. I did contact the after hours line once and that too was a good experience with a fast & knowledgeable response. The staff is very thorough and patient throughout the whole process and provide helpful documents. There is a non-refundable $200 consultation fee but it subtracts from your total cost if you have surgery within a year. My consultation and follow up appointments have been with Dr. Saur and he is also great as he is honest (ie. he told me I could get Lasik but he wouldn't recommend it as it would further dry out my already dry eyes) and he ensures he answers all questions or concerns. My appointments are easily scheduled and I don't wait long. I feel well taken care of here and I'm so glad I did this. Edit: Dec. 2020 - Eyes are still good, no issues & 20/20. Happy with their follow up process.
Do you like waiting 40+ minutes after your scheduled appointment time? Then go to Gimbel. Happy with my LASIK (thrilled, actually) but completely dissatisfied with every other element of the process.
Great experience. Met Dr. Warrian when he saved my eye from a retinal tear/detachment a few months ago. Had a cataract for him to fix in the other eye and the process was very efficient and the staff wonderful throughout. I saw some other reviews about punctuality on here, and while sure doctors offices can have emergencies and fall behind some days, my experience was right on time every time. 8:45 appointment for cataract surgery and home by 11:30, including a 60 minute waiting period where I got a coffee so they could double check pressure before I went home. Couldn't ask for better.
After having Lasik performed by Dr. Van Westbrugge, the pain caused by the vision in my left eye is so great that I cannot keep it open. In addition to being misinformed by the results of the procedure (verifying by two independent optometrists), the opthalmolpgists at this clinic have refused to provide answers over a number of months.
Both my mother and later my husband had very successful cataract surgery with Dr Gimbel. It was so reassuring to pray with him before surgery and I watched the surgery from behind glass, what steady hands!
If I have an appointment booked at 11:30 why does some have to wait for 2+ hours to see someone? You should have a service where you could check in and it will tell you when the doctor can see you. Kinda like airports. People have lives and don’t need to be wasting their time sitting for hours at a time.
Dr. John A. van Westenbrugge and his crew performed my cataract operation I was scared silly... The entire staff helped me settle down I would recommend them to any and all The second eye is scheduled for in 2 weeks I can't wait
Dr Gimbal did my mom's eyes a month ago. She's been suffering double vision since, was told by Gimbal that it's not his fault, go get help elsewhere. He needs to retire! I wouldn't let him clean my glasses, let alone work on my eyes. Very disappointed
I went to the website today because I was recommending Gimbel to a friend when I realized I never provided a review... here it is: I went to the clinic in 2004 (15 years ago!) and was told I was not suited for LASIK surgery as my eyes were -9.5 with another 2.0 astygmatism. ICL was suggested, even though it was still considered “experimental” at that time. I had it done, it was easy and painless. I had my surgery at 4PM and went to the Flames game that night with no issues. My vision has been 20/15 right from day one, it has never changed and I have never had an issue in 15 years! That was the greatest decision I ever made! (Well, other than marrying my wife...) Can’t say enough good things about Gimbel!!
Friendly and helpful staff! Everyone was great. I was accommodated on short notice and everyone that helped me that day was top notch! Dr. H Chung was exceptional and I send a big thank you!!
I got laser correction with Dr. Van Westenburgge about 6 months ago. The service was impeccable, the people are nice and caring, and the process was completed without hitch. They are not pushy and want to provide the type of correction that fits your needs. So far no corrections needed and no complications arose. Edit: it's been a year since my procedure and still loving everything about, no complications or regression, would recommend to anyone else!
My mom was recently a patient at Dr. Gimbel's and the results have been just OKAY so far. Clear vision has not been fully restored as well. Recently she returned to get a sick note for work and Dr. Gimbel's assistant was incredibly rude to her. Jesus, what kind of service is that. My mom is a little older and is obviously already worried since she still can't see 100% even after several weeks and doesn't need to receive this kind of attitude from the staff. Unfortunate encounter. Hopefully we don't continue to receive this uncouth treatment should she have to return.
Just had cataract and lens replacement surgery, the experience was excellent, the front end staff, surgical staff, pre and post care A+.
Wait time is awful, our appointment is 11:30am, came in at 11:30, did tests for about 10 minutes then we’ve been sitting at the waiting area for almost 2 hours WAITING AND STARVING. Ridiculous. Doctor is nice, only reason I gave 2 instead of 1
Feels like a chop shop. Dodgy sales tactics. Just go to Clarity. You'll come away happier.
Went there with the wife, run by wonderful people.
Few months ago in 2019; I had an appoint for 3:30 pm and arrived 2 minutes before time (there was hold up on Deerfoot). I did not get to see the doctor until 6:43 pm. The attendant that was responsible for calling patients in the doctor's room was very rude with demeaning attitude. At 6:43 when she finally called me and I looked displeased, she said would you prefer I call someone else even though no one was left there and I was getting my purse and putting the magazine away. I had to wait another 10 minutes in the doctor's room. The appointment schedulers are not trained and it depends on the attendant you get, some are nice while some should not be in that office or be in contact with patients due to lack of courtesy. I could understand if I was doing a walk-in; and had to wait that long, but a scheduled appointment that they even sent me a reminder notice? I hope the management will look into this poor performance.
I have brought my mother and mother in law here several times for various appointments. Both are in their 80’s and have always had to wait from 2-4 hours to see their doctor despite always being on time. I’m struggling to understand how they can consistently run this far behind first thing in the morning.
I cannot wrap my head around a doctor with so little regard for his patent's time that I have been kept waiting for over 90 minutes. I had a 7:30 a.m. appointment and it is now 9:15 a.m. I've seen Dr Gimbel several times and immediately after testing, I wait a moment while my pupils dialate and then I have my consultation with him. Who is busier than Dr. Gimbel?? This new doctor I'm waiting to see is Dr. Warien. Although I finished testing well over 30 minutes ago, I'm still in the waiting room with the rest of the cattle. Asking the receptionist about how much longer I can expect to wait has yielded the following answer, "He runs 3 rooms, all rooms are full and there is one person ahead of you." I'm incredulous. If you have options, do not accept an appointment with this doctor. Don't get me wrong, I reccomend Dr. Gimbel wholeheartedly. His clinic is the premier facility in Calgary. This new doctor, Dr. Warien (sp?) Is a joke. I can practically see the dollar signs above each of our heads, stuck here in the waiting room. What other possible reason could there be to stack up patients like cordwood in your waiting room? The message I'm receiving from this experience is that my time is of no consequence and I'm just a cog in this money-making machine.
I paid for my daughter’s LASIK surgery from Gimbel in Calgary and after less than 1 year her eyes returned to the level that she requires glasses again, I contacted Gimbel and to correct her eyes (again) it will cost another $1700 per eye instead of the original $1800 per eye. I asked do you not stand behind your work, and I was told no. Do not use Gimbel, they will rip you off, very disappointed. Robert K
I had to take my 92 year old Mom to see Dr. Warrian at the Gimbel Eye Center for an appointment at 11:30. We saw 2 different technicians before seeing the Opthamologist. Dr. Warrian was a very knowledgeable and pleasant person, BUT the wait of 5 hours was not acceptable. Mom is a diabetic and she was getting hungry and her blood sugar was dropping so she needed something to eat. Their response was to send us to the pharmacy downstairs where they only have junk food and a very poor selection of that. They also said that we could go over to Market mall to eat, but Mom uses a cane and walking around a mall to find food would have taken us several hours and we did not want to increase our wait by being away for an extended period. Why did they need to make the appointment at 11:30 when 1:30 would have sufficed. We do not live in Calgary and we had a 5 1/2 hour drive just to get there and when we were done we had another 5/12 hour drive back home. I am still angry!!! My suggestion to anyone who needs to visit this building is: Plan ahead for extra long wait times and also take a picnic basket so that you can eat proper food. If you come from a long distance it might be better if you find a hotel to stay overnight and book your appointment as early in the day as you can. Good luck, you will need it.
What an experience, its been 4 hrs and still sitting in waiting room... the staff has spent a total of 10 minutes doing tests now just waiting, very unprofessional, inconsiderate set up... there are more than 20 people in waiting room waiting just as long as I have. I do not recommend this place at all.. South Calgary Eye Clinic much better... Everyone in the waiting area complaining.
My vision is finally clear after my PRK surgery, but otherwise this has been a disappointing experience. I was given great pre-operative instructions but the post-operative expectations were very misleading. I was not told that there was a chance that I would have blurry vision and therefore be unable to drive for literally four weeks after the surgery. In fact, I was told I would receive the letter permitting me to drive on day 8 post-op. The wait times for the follow-ups, of which I have had to do almost 8, have taken anywhere from 15 minutes to over 90 minutes for the same procedures. This is a staggering difference and very difficult to plan around. I would not recommend Gimbel to others.
I was an out of province patient, Dr. Gimbel was recommended by my ophthalmologist. I had two new lens implants on the same day. I could not have asked for a better outcome, during a post operation follow-up with my ophthalmologist, he described Dr. Gimbel as a truly great eye surgeon as well as an artist in his profession. I cannot speak more highly of his support team, very professional, from my pre operation examination to the post operation the following day.
I got my ICL done for my high myopia 2 weeks ago. I was very nervous about the process. Before the surgery I meet with the tech who did the testing and initial assessment. He seemed very knowledgeable relaying that he was an internationally trained optometrist. After the surgery the tech was also pleasant and an international trained Ophthalmologist. Dr Westenburrge did the surgery and he was excellent. Exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend Gimbel eye center.
My experience at Gimbel eye centre has been excellent from beginning to end. All of the staff that I had the pleasure to deal with were friendly and professional, and all of my appointments were either right on time, or not more than a 15-20 minute wait to be called. Everyone was helpful and very knowledgeable especially Dr. Van Westenbrugge who is amazing. I was very nervous about cataract surgery and he was so calming and professional. The process was painless and because of Dr. Van Westenbrugge's skill and experience, I have both my sight and my independence back. I can't thank you enough Dr. Van Westenbrugge and all the staff at Gimbel.
I was very happy with Dr. Warrian. Knowledgeable man and kind. Saw me right away no fuss no muss. I appreciate everything you did for me today, thank you
I had my Ladin eye surgery done 9 year ago and my eyes are still great.
In 1996, I had Lasik surgery on both eyes as I was very near sighted at 20/780 vision in my right eye and 20/720 vision in my left having worn very thick glasses since I was 7 and contacts since I was 18 plus I had severe astigmatism. That means what the average person can see at 780 feet I would have to be only 20 feet to see with the same clarity so I was essentially legally blind. 20/500 is about -6 and anything above that is severe myopia so my 20/780 was more like -8.5 or higher. So it was 23 years ago in Sept 1996 when I was 39 years old and met Dr. Van Westenburgge who at that time flew to Saskatoon once a week so I flew there for my surgery as I had 3 sisters in the city. My optometrist in Brandon had forwarded all the measurements. Before the surgery Dr. Van Westenburgge sat down with me and said, "At the age you are, I can give you 20/20 vision in both eyes today but I bet you won't want to wear reading glasses in 5 or so years. So it is your choice if you want me to leave your right eye slightly near sighted and make it something like 20/30 as it's a bit worse than your left eye already and make your left eye 20/20. That way it would work well for your right eye to focus for reading and close up work and your left eye to dominate for distance and they will be close enough that they will still focus together without giving you headaches and such." So I went for that option and I turned 62 this year and still do not need reading glasses and can thread the eye of the smallest needle like a damn and read all but the extremely tiniest print on things like vitamin bottles. My optomistrist says my eyes have not changed at all since my surgery and the astigmatism never came back. Prior to my surgery I was spending around $1000 per year every year for stronger glasses and contact prescriptions and special contact solutions so would have spent $23000 or more. I think my surgery back then was about $3000 total for both eyes. I have nothing bad to say about Gimbel Eye Clinic.
Took my $200 deposit, and went to the introductory appointment.the staff were nice and informative. They were to get back to me after their doctor had a chance to check the results, research the correct procedure, and quote the final procedure. After 7 months, and 2 phone calls to them, I still have not heard from then regarding any further details. It seems to be $200 spent for no reason???
Had LASIK done on both eyes here 16 years ago and have had zero issues and still 20/20 vision. Best decision ever --- and the staff was amazing.
