Dr. Kwan made sure that both times I had a detached retina He expedited the required surgery be done in Calgary right away with no permanent damage apparent. And he did a good job on both eyes when cataracts began to interfere with my vision. He and his brother and other staff are quite approachable.

Dr. Kwan performed cataract surgery for me. Surgery was done perfectly. No pain; not even discomfort. Surgery corrected the problem. Follow-up was frequent and meticulous. Associate staff were also excellent. Much appreciated and looking forward to getting the other eye done when it's time is right.

My dad lost his eyesight in one eye because Dr. Kwan said my dad had a cataract. Dr. Kwan said "let's wait until the eye is totally gone before we operate on the cataract". So they did. Dr. Kwan operated on my dad's eye. The vision did not change BECAUSE IT WAS GLAUCOMA! Now my dad is blind in one eye because of Dr. Kwan's misdiagnosis.

Dr Kwan seems reasonably competent but his front desk staff are outrageously rude and unprofessional . First, they claimed having no record of my daughters referring GP and no medical history and blamed me. Then they discovered the paperwork in a drawer some place. No apologies. They were very disrespectful and condescending at one point shouting at me in front of waiting patients ‘You don’t get it’ when I suggested they should have her medical history on hand for Dr Kwan.. I’ve never seen a medical office so dysfunctional. It’s clear many other patients have made the same online complaint. If you need an ophthalmologist see Dr Mcabe. He is excellent. Save yourself some grief and Dont go here!

Terrible experience Was recommended by my optometrist to get a glaucoma test as my family has a history of glaucoma. Technician scratched my BRAND NEW eyeglass lenses,and Dr.Kwan denied it happened there,as it had "never happened in the last 20 years" He went so far as to recommend I wash them with soap and water to remove the scratches.Really. First visit was to test the pressure in my eyes and scratch my eyeglasses.After seeing the test results(negative),it was recommended I come back at a later date for an OCT and Field of Vision test. I had to come back again at a later date for those results as Dr.Kwan "wasnt in ". Came back the third time for the test results and it was recommended that I come back in 6 months to do a comparison test.Dr.Kwan did not even have the courtesy to explain to his receptionist what I was coming back for as he disappeared again.I had to explain it all to the receptionist. Now,that was 3 separate visits.Was that 3 separate charges to Alberta Health? I enquired with another clinic about the procedures I had ,wondering how many trips to get the same results(without the scratches to my lenses). 1.Yes 1.And usually complete within an hour.1 hour. I missed over 3 hours of work,made three trips,and my employer lost my production for more than 3 hours. The manufacturer of my lenses covered the scratched lens under his own warranty.But why did he have to?What a waste.Look elsewhere for professional care.
