I am afraid of Dr Kherani I have had two mishaps with him so it is very difficult for me to have the injections in my eye, The staff are wonderful and have been very professional on the phone and in person .

I would take their existing star away if I could. I had to get laser treatment for a hole in my retina. You could tell that this doctor was really really inexperienced. He said he saw the hole (my optometrist referred me because she saw this hole even without dilating my eyes) but when we were in the laser room, it took him forever to even find the hole. I came back for my 1 week follow up check and waited more than an hour and a half to see another doctor who said he can't really determine if the procedure was done well or not. He took me to see a senior consultant and am waiting all over again.. This is becoming really ridiculous. It has been over 2 hours and people who came in after me are going in to see this senior consultant before me. The worst medical experience I've ever had!!!

I'm very mixed on how I feel...Dr Kerhani is very good and very thorough. When I first had an appt I felt rushed (even tho I was there 4 hours) and felt a little in the dark about my issues. That aspect has improved and I really like Dr Kerhani and trust him. I agree with ppl about the front desk staff. They are generally very rude on the phone. One lady in particular is extremely rude, pushy, and uncooperative. One time, they took the liberty of changing my appointment without consulting with me. I was unable to accommodate the change they wanted to make and I was literally told in a roundabout way that I was being selfish, and inconveniencing another patient. The appointment that I had, I had booked several weeks prior. I forgot to talk to Dr Kherani about that experience… I really should have.

Doctors are doing their job but the whole system / administration around them is frustrating. 10AM appointment delayed by 3 hours is something you can expect here on regular basis. They do not provide any reasons or updates about the delay. I hope they adopt a better scheduling system, friendlier staff and tools to inform patients of the delays.

If you are researching lens implants, you may have come to a building full of doctors with lots of letters behind their names, but you can forget about getting any service! The staff will treat you with contempt from the first call. You can't get answers. You can't expect email replies. If you got here looking for both respect and professionalism, you are advised to look at perhaps... Gimbel.

After reading reviews of this office I was very apprehensive. Instead, my experience was (mostly) pleasant, with only one small detraction from what was otherwise a routine and polished experience. Front desk was happy and positive, with a great attitude and friendly demeanour. The first tech I met with - Lola - was 100% all business. She wasn't rude, and she was professional, but it was clear she wasn't having a great day. and that she had no interest in engaging me beyond what she had to. This is the detraction. She did the dilation and general eye exam. The next tech, a fellow who's name I didn't get, was the total opposite: he was having a great day and it was obvious. He did the OCT and was quite chipper. Dr. Fielden himself couldn't have been more professional. He treated me with the level of courtesy I'd expect and his attitude was becoming of a Doctor of his calibre. He asked numerous questions and explored the answers I gave him, never dismissing me and taking into consideration what I was saying. I felt that he not only cared about my concerns, but had a genuine professional interest in the outcome. My experience here was a positive one and I'd have no qualms recommending this office to others. When the only complaint I have is that one technician was curt but not rude, and with a short wait (my appointment was 12:15 and I was out the door by 1), I have no reason not to recommend patients seeking an ophthalmologist come here. What a pleasure.

I have been going to dr. Fielden now for two years or so. I was/am getting monthly injection in my eyes, and sometimes lasered. Great staff, dr. Fielden is so thorough and sharp. Wait times occur with difficult cases or having to wait for eyes to react to meds, drops etc... for me, i am in and out of there very quickly! Sometimes only 20 minutes tops!

Doctors are super professional and nurses are super nice!

The people in this clinic are awesome. Friendly, responsive and caring. I cant say enough about Dr. Fieldmen. His focus is you. He is professional, attentive and caring. Everyone treats me with compassion and care.

Cheryl Gullason

This is a great clinic. You are treated with respect. Wait times can be long but it is worth the wait. Excellent doctors and staff.

I want to rate this by department.. 1-2 Starts: Reception Staff - When calling to book an appointment, it felt as if I was putting her off by talking to me. Rude, non-empathetic, and had to repeat myself numerous times in order to get the information through. Yes the wait time is long, this could be managed slightly better, not their fault. 3-4 stars: Doctor - I believe I saw Dr. Fielding (??) and he was pleasant enough, though rushed in and out as if channelling Kramer from Seinfeld. He explained my diagnosis hurriedly though answered all questions thoroughly. 5+ stars: Nurses and Behind the Scenes Staff - Excellent!!. When I had to have an injection in my eye (yes into the white part) they were so understanding of my anxiety and really reduced my stress level. Explained everything that was going to happen calmly and clearly. EDIT NOV 6/17.. Changed from 3 to 1 starts. Just can't get past the front end staff who don't even acknowledge your presence when you arrive.. they are rude and condescending.. AND now you have to pay to park..

The worst wait time. Had an appointment at 10 and now it's noon. Unbelievable! Will never ever come back.

Have been going to see Dr. Kherani for over 10 years now. Cannot say enough good things about him, very compassionate, caring, is willing to do anything for his patients and listens to his patients and their family's concerns. Staff are friendly and nice, wait times can be long but he is worth the wait.

This is the second time I have went to this office and nothing has changed. The girl at the front desk was rude and could hardly acknowledge you nor help answer any questions. To me it was also really annoying that you would get brought into an exam room and then you were back in the waiting room and then you'd get pulled into another exam room and then put Into another waiting room. I'd recommend that you bring a book or a fully charged phone/tablet as the waiting times tend to be excessive. You also have to pay for parking now as well.

Dr. Amin Kherani did my cataract surgery, he is the model of the ideal doctor. During my consultations he took the time to explain my condition, my options and the recomended course of action. He is curteous, professional and extremely knowledgeable. My post surgery follow-ups where conducted by Dr. Faazil Kassam. He was professional, friendly and curtious. The center staff are friendly, polite and helpful.

I experienced vision loss in my right eye which returned to normal after a short time. Shortly after, I was seen by Dr. F Kassam who checked my vision and declared everything to be normal. Subsequently I experienced another vision loss, it was discovered by another doctor that I had been suffering strokes ( Vision loss is a known stroke indicator for medical personnel). Dr. Kassam failed to recognize what most medical personnel quickly suspect as a stroke indicator. Will definitely not be returning to this clinic. I now have permanent vision loss as a result of this error.

The staff are very friendly and Dr. Ells is very knowledgeable and conscientious.

My husband attended Calgary Retina Consultants and had surgery performed by Dr. Williams and we couldn't be more pleased with the care he received. Yes, the time in the clinic can involve some waiting, (just bring a book and a snack :) ) but we know that several assessments had to be done, by different technicians in order to confirm proper information and measurements. Also, we know that the doctors are sight-saving experts and make sure that everyone, even unscheduled emergencies, get the best care. You don't mind the wait because you know that if you ever need more time or extra care, they will provide it to you. The staff were lovely and helpful and kind. The parking isn't free, but the fee is so small compared to any hospital or downtown offices. We were very pleased with the care we received, thank you Dr. Williams and staff!!

Dr. Ells is the best!

If you have an appointment with DR. Amin Kherani it will atleast take 3 hours minimum. I don't even see a point off making an appointment very incodeisrate about other people's time. I recommend going else where for sure.

Terrible customer service. I was never able to see an ophthalmologist at this centre, due to the poor customer service I experienced. I had an urgent referral from my optometrist. The office never bothered to get back to either myself or my optometrist. After waiting for 2 days for a response, both the optometrist's office and I each spent hours on the phone with them over the course of 3 days (during which time I developed more symptoms), before I finally reached Cathy, the referral coordinator, who notified me that the specialist had decided I did not need to be seen on urgent basis and could be seen as needed. I notified her of my worsening symptoms (being that it is now "needed") and put her in touch with my optometrist, who also insisted that I needed an urgent referral. Cathy was very unreasonable on the phone, then said she would get back to me, It is now a full week later and I never heard back from them. Thankfully, my optometrist was able to refer me elsewhere.

I have had 2 surgeries here due to retinal tears. The staff and doctors have been outstanding. I recently had to have a emergency surgery and without an appointment I was in and out in 2 hours and comfortably resting back home. The waits are longer than your average doctor visit because of the drops you have to have in your eyes. I have seen 7 opthamoligists now due to moving cities over the years and this is nothing new. The people that have given bad reviews because of this need to give their heads a shake. Opthamology appts are typically 1-2 hours minimum. The staff is great and so are the doctors. You are in good hands here.

I have been a patient of both Dr. Williams and Dr. Kherani. I truly believe that both these doctors are selfless public servants. I had my first retinal detachment at 14 and my second at 18 years of age. Unfortunately, I lost a fair amount of vision in one eye but thankfully the other eye was saved. I truly believe these doctors did and will continue to do everything possible for me and my eyesight. If it weren't for their selfless public service I could very easily be blind unable to write this review. In both cases of my retinal detachments these doctors had worked extremely long hours already and still provided me with emergency surgery. They both would have been within their rights to go home to their families and rest but this is not in their character. Alberta would be lucky to have more doctors and specialists like Kherani and Williams who truly care. Yes, I have had to wait countless hours at follow up appointments and it can be frustrating but at the end of the day anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that this clinic is under-staffed and still doing everything within their power to provide an excellent public service. I thank God for the care these doctors and this clinic was able to provide me when I needed it. (Also it is worth noting that efficiency at the clinic has improved a lot since I was first seen there 16 years ago!)

I'm giving this review on behalf of my Mom. She had some questions and concerns. She called your office and spoke Betty, in fact I believe she said she called a couple of times and because of the friendliness and empathy she had received she asked for one particular staff member. Her name was Betty, my mom said she was very polite, empathetic and when she was unsure of the answer she went out of her way to get the answers. Thank you for taking the time to make my Mom feel not just like a patient but as an important person. Hats off to you Betty!

I have been Dr. Kherani’s patient for over three years. I receive injections in my left eye every four to six weeks. He is very knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. This is a busy clinic, but he is always calm and ready to listen and answer all my questions. The wait times can be long, but all the staff from the reception, to various technicians, assistants and specialists are trying their best. Thank you!

Lots of negative reviews. Besides how busy these people are and the efficiency behind them...... 5 STARS!!

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Calgary Retina Consultants. Last week I had a PVD in my other eye ( first one was 2.5 years ago) and spent the better part of a Sunday at the Rockyview General Hospital. I was advised to go from there to CRC the next day, and when I presented at CRC the next morning for emergency care, I was triaged right in and attended to immediately. Dr. Geoff Williams has looked after me on both occasions; he has cared for my husband as well. He is terrific. He is very calming with his patients, at what is usually a tense time, and is so skilled. My husband and I both feel like we are in the best of hands - literally! Thank you, Dr. Williams! We have also seen Dr. Ells and continue to see Dr. Kassab for our general ophthalmology, who are both excellent as well. Huge kudos to the team members too - they keep things moving along in a pleasant and efficient manner in what is a very busy office. We can't comment enough on how fortunate we are to have this facility in Calgary - excellent practitioners and team members, and modern, up-to -date, well run and well organized. Thank you Calgary Retina Consultants!

Let me start off by saying that I would give TEN stars if I could! We Southern Albertans are so incredibly fortunate to have the Southern Alberta Eye Centre in Calgary. The founders and attending doctors have a "vision" of what should be in place in every major centre in Canada. This is a beautiful "state of the art" clinic - everything is spotless and very well organized. The availability of parking and access to the C train is a plus! My husband and I have the good fortune of being patients of Calgary Retinal Consultants. Not necessarily "good fortune" from the perspective of requiring retinal care for a few different issues, but from being able to be treated here! From the time one calls in for an appointment to completion of services, there is an emphasis on the provision of excellent medical care. The front end personnel really listen to patients' concerns, ask good questions and take excellent notes to allow for triage. And ... they get back to the patient when they say that they will. At the time of the appointment, the clinical staff are polite, professional and strive to answer questions and provide information in a calm and supportive manner. Eye issues typically cause people to be frightened and concerned ... the staff's empathy and kindness are so welcome. Now about the doctors - wow! We both can honestly say that we have such total confidence in our doctors - Dr. Williams, Dr. Ells and Dr. Kherani and for good reason. We've never been steered wrong and we've always had the very BEST of care. Some patients have complained online about wait times. This should be looked at from a different perspective. First of all, proper eye dilation takes time and can vary from patient to patient. This is built into the patient's waiting time. Also, eye emergencies often can and do present and one must remember that should s/he become an emergency, they will be triaged and treated on an emergency basis as per the clinical decision of the doctors. If you have to wait, there is a lovely coffee shop downstairs - go and have a tea and relax. I suggest you bring an Ipod or Ipad, rest your eyes and sit back and breathe. Don't think about the wait - for sure you will be seen in a timely fashion. Finally, this has to be said: It is so convenient to come to Calgary Retinal Consultants and be able to receive diagnostic and surgical services in one facility . One has only to have experienced being bounced back and forth from an office to the hospital to know this. This is where a lot of waiting and issues with continuity of care can occur with resultant angst. Thank you again SAEC and Calgary Retinal Consultants - we are forever grateful.

No time consideration for others, even if they are old and unable to sit that LONG 3+ hours! that is pathetic...hope he reads these kind of comments and improve on his timing .

Wait time is terrible takes them 3 hours to see a patient no respect for other people’s time

Took my grandmother in multiple times and on most (if not all) occasions the main reception girls were not over friendly. Seriously, if you don't like dealing with customers may I suggest getting a different job. You are then plopped into one of the large waiting rooms. When your name is finally called, these large "barn like doors" open for you to get herded into another room, then only to be put into another large waiting room to get called once again into another room then put back into the waiting room to get put into ANOTHER room to finally see the doctor!! Expect to wait 2-3 hrs every time you visit We felt like a herd of cattle. Yes, the doctors have lot's of fancy qualifications behind their names but ever since my grandmother has received "treatment" her eyes have gotten worse. Way worse. We have mentioned that, but they just blow it off and say the x-rays look fine. I'm not an eye doctor, but anyone can tell that my grandmothers eyes are not fine. Very frustrating and we have made arrangements with our family doctor to see another clinic. I'm not taking my grandmother back to this place ever.
