REVIEWS OF Agawa Canyon Tour Train IN Sault Sainte Marie

Awesome experience. Worth every penny. Great way to see some of the most beautiful parts of Ontario. The ride up the canyon is gorgeous, then you stop for 1.5 hrs to explore the station. The food voucher you get can go quite far if you price things out right. Would definitely love to do this again, and recommend visiting in the fall to experience the beauty of the fall foliage. Also if you move quick enough at the canyon you will be able to go to both waterfalls and to the top of the lookout. The walk to the top isn't too bad but can be very tiring however it is definitely worth it!

Julia Poelstra

Beautiful scenery once you're there but you only get 1.5 hours to view it. Otherwise it's a LONG train ride on rickety old tracks and cars. The views on the way weren't as spectacular as the advertising made them out to be. Food was not good, dry and bland. Boarded train at 7:30 am, back by 6:30 pm. Incredibly slow moving train, like school zone slow.

An experience to remember. I worked on the tour train for several years and the 1 question that had been asked regularly was "Don't you ever get tired of seeing the same thing everyday?" My usual reply "I never get tired of riding the tour train... there is always something new to see. One doesn't have to look to hard to spot something either... Every trip I notice something I hadn't seen before." I still enjoy going for a ride on the tour train. I'm looking forward to my next trip as I'm planning to bring the grand kids for their first tour train experience. It is definitely a great experience.

Rode this on July 2016. Enjoyed it very much! The station and onboard personnel are professional and friendly. Coaches are air conditioned and comfortable with large windows. Ride starts out slowly out of town for the first 15 minutes but then picks up the pace nicely once out in the country. According to the crew host, the cars are 1950s classics that have been restored and upgraded. The scenery, imho, was just like the ads showed. Cool feature I liked was the tv monitors in each car that showed the locomotive engineer's view ahead. We crossed over some high and impressive trestles! The park at the end of the line is beautiful with picnic tables and long trails. Unspoiled nature and very clean. You get 1 and 1/2 hours to check the park out. The only downside is that there are deer flies in the summer. The crew hosts provided bug repellent, which is helpful. There is food available in the diner, but we packed sandwiches and drinks and ate at a table in our coach and its OK with the crew. For those that would like to de-stress and unwind on a relaxing, long train ride with gorgeous scenery, this is it! To be bluntly honest, I sure don't understand some of the criticisms. For those that are "jet-setting" night clubbers that live in a hyper-fast paced mode, this might not be for you.

Great experience. However, wish the ride back was a bit faster. Made for a long day. Scenery was phenomenal, never expected such a change of terrain from the UP to Ontario. Would definitely recommend! Had a chance to speak with the girl that worked in the canteen who happened to live somewhat close to me, she in Ontario and I in Michigan. She was very sweet and interesting, wish we could've spoke more but she was busy at work. :( I have pictures and video clips of my trip on my Instagram account @brockburkhart94 Would love to come back and see the color change.

Wonderful comfortable train ride. Fabulous scenery.

When i took this train last year early fall, i felt it was bit over rated on google. maybe if you travel in peak of fall season you feel much better. train journey was bit long around 4 hours from sault Ste Marie . Train staff allow you less than an hour to look around. if you are fast enough you can hike to the top of cliff to see the surrounding area. Natural beauty is awesome with some waterfall.Stay in Sault Ste. Marie for a day to look around the city. the park just around the river in the downtown of city also has good walk beside river.

Mary Barchacky

Very LONG train ride with little to see. Hard to take scenic pictures from the train. Food was extremely expensive and very poor ingredients. The destination was just a park with trails to two waterfalls and a tower. Not worth the time or money! You can see pictures and read about the canyon on-line. The return trip took 4.5 hours but felt like 10.

Gagan Duggal (Newhometeam)

It is so scenic route in hot summer I wonder how it would be in the colors of fall.

Cynthia Romero

The views were beautiful, the highlight of the trip were the views of mountains and lakes passing and the canyon area was fun for my party of 4, 3 adults and 1 child to explore. I'd like if people were organized to swap sides on the return trip, because one side does get better views than the other. Wifi on the train would be great as it is a very long ride and a lot of people were without connection in those areas. The food was not pleasant unfortunately, it's catered by a restaurant in Sault Ste Marie, and that made me not want to visit the restaurant. So pack your own food and your own entertainment, but the ride is worth the views.

In light of other reviews, I decided to write about my experience on July 17, 2018: 1) For people complaining about boring views, make sure you are sitting on the right side facing forward when going northbound, and then on the way back, if you are able to, sit on the left side facing forward going southbound. I wasn't bored at all during the nearly 4 hour ride northbound. Many sights to see, though there isn't as much on the left side, so make sure to sit on the right side! The commentary throughout the train ride was nice and not overwhelming. 2) I was in Car #2, which I guess was a newer car. Air conditioner worked well, nice and cool inside, and also clean. If you are placed into an older car (I'm assuming the grey colored cars), you're free to walk around after and sit somewhere else, no one will bother you as long as you haven't taken anyone's seat. 3) You should get a $10 voucher attached to your ticket when you pick up your ticket at the station. I was able to get a wrap, a cookie, and a muffin -- so I don't think it's overpriced. I brought with my own water bottles. Best to bring a drink with at least and a snack or two. 3) Yes, we only had 1.5 hours to explore the Canyon area when we arrived, which is usually the norm. This amount of time is enough to see all trails, falls, and the phenomenal lookout view which is more than 320 steps. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time to sit and relax for awhile in each place, so it does provide a rushed experience if you want to see all places. I recommend eating lunch on the train before or after if you want to see all the scenery as there won't be any time to do both. 4) The train ride back was nice, though after we reached a certain point, I did take a little nap as I had seen most of the scenery, thankfully. The way back allows people who didn't get a chance to take pictures the opportunity to do so, as well as taking some great pictures over the dam area with a train view. 5) Ticket for the summer was over $100, I felt it was worth the price since it included $10 food voucher and offers a full day experience that was memorable to me. I'm sure in the autumn the views are even better, maybe one day I'll return to see the difference!

The one day Agawa Canyon Train Tour is just one of the experience in Sault Ste. Marie. It takes you away and leaves you breathless. Fall is the best season to visit this place but you have to book the train tickets in couple of months in advance. On the way to Sault Ste. Marie, you can also visit the Big Nickle & Dynamic Earth Mine in Sudbury, having the world's largest coin as a monument.

Noorayn Meraj

The trains are clean and nice. Washrooms were a nightmare. Lovely ride to the canyon and back. There wasn't much to see at the stop itself as the route to the falls was closed. The look out was good. I would recommend carrying your own food. The train ticket comes with a coupon of 10 dollars for food. The actual meal costs 20 dollars.

Tammy Ouellette

Definitely something you have to do once! Along time to sit but, worth the ride. Only thing I would change, is were the food /snacks car is. I would say place the car half way between all cars.

Vignesh Shanmugam

The best tour to experience fall colours, it was must try and worth the money

Sharad Singh

A must do for everyone once in their lifetime. A big tip - come early to get tickets before the lineup builds - aim at 6.45 and after you board the coach take a window seat on the left side of where the train comes from - all great views come from that side. We went in the first week of fall so could not see all the colors but was still beautiful... It is only for people who love nature, the train stops in agawa canyon for 90 mins before coming back where you can view a few falls. Another big tip - bring your own lunch! Can't stress this enough - the food in the train is not great. Staff was nice, you get audio cues.

Shane

95% of the trip involves a 15km/h close up view of trees. There are a few good views, especially over the Montreal River, but they are few and very far between. By about 11am the children start to get antsy and the parents start to get drunk. The supervision of said children becomes non existent, just as any hope of a peaceful ride. Coffee is $2 for about 6oz, water is also expensive, and you will be waiting a while for it. Bring things to keep yourself and the children occupied. Your train may take 4 hours longer than scheduled depending on the track conditions and temperature. If you are lucky enough for your train to be on schedule, the park is beautiful. Make sure you visit the waterfalls. Be aware that certain tourists will delay your train departure by at least half an hour, guaranteed. While everyone is sitting on the train there will be 2 or 3 groups who disregard the established schedule; Hint - they are not Canadian or American. Verdict: At almost $110 a ticket, I can think of 110 better things to do than sit on this train.

Aastha Trivedi

I visited the place recently and it has been a wonderful experience. Fall is the best time to visit because every view one sees is like a perfect portrait painted with the correct color balance and in it's right frame. It is such an experience that I can still cherish those marvellous scenic stunts that the Nature posed with just an instantaneous blink of my eyes! If you ACTUALLY are a Nature Lover, you must definitely visit the place and believe me it will be like a life time experience which will make you forget all the MaLaDiEs on this Earth!

Will Prentice

The trip north was stunning, even in August. Great views of beautiful lakes and Ontario mountains. Staff were really friendly. Can't wait to come back in the fall.

Archie Ives

We took two older grandchildren on the train because one is a train buff. They are 14 and 10. They had a pretty good time on the way out taking pictures and enjoying the ride. the seating is ok, not too uncomfortable and the car we were in was fairly empty. All together maybe 200 people on the entire train. The staff told me in the fall that can climb to 800. If there had been that many it would have been less comfortable. The lunch offered on the train is not really good a few different sandwiches. Better to pack a lunch. the trip is about 4 hours each way with an hour and a half in the canyon. Most trails require you to be in ok shape to go to the sites. There is seating around the area, The return trip can be less comfortable as the seating seemed to wear on us. It seems a lot longer coming back than going out.

wesley rissler

We have as newlyweds really enjoyed this breathtaking ride!! They have a system that gives you a brief explanation on the sights you see & gives you a headsup at upcoming scenery that is picturesque!! Take it & enjoy the God made wonders of nature!:)

Linda Cole

If you want to just ride on a train, then this is probably for you. It didn't take us anywhere in particular and was actually kinda boring.

Courtney Beriault

The experience was amazing. Staff was friendly, ride was smooth, and scenery was breathtaking. We brought our three young kids, and they all had a blast. Wish we had a bit more time during the stop at the park (Atleast 2 hours) but overall we had a great time. Food is a bit expensive, but nice to have healthy options. Would recommend some sort of family rate or season pass discounts for larger families or people that would go often.

Dave Feutz

We were allowed to walk around the park for 26 minutes, were not allowed to go on any of the trails, and didn't get back to the station until 9pm. We received little to no information on what was going on, and were never told when we would be getting back (other than "it will be late") The dining car will happily take US currency, but will treat it as the same value as Canadian. As a result, a $30 meal cost us $44 instead. Oh, but don't worry! If you have an experience like this, they will offer you free tickets for next year! Who cares how far you have to drive to use them!

Jacob Thompson

The 4 hour train ride was expected to be able to make it to Agawa Canyon, but the worst part was the horrendous seats. When you're forced to sit still for 2 4 hour trips, you'd hope that you're provided with comfortable cushioning but their seats are anything but. On top of that, you're paying about $100 for a 10 hour round trip and food isn't even included. If you want to see some good scenery, you can most definitely find something better for the price, but if you really enjoy sitting on trains for hours at a time, then this is for you.

Crystal J (angelfacedevilgirl)

Really wanted to do this when they operated the Snow Train, but missed out so we went in early summer. Was good and the 1.5 HR stop for hikes/pictures was also good. Food okay, just pre-made sandwiches and snacks. Starbucks coffee was a plus! This is a LONG train ride.

Madison Corea

Extremely overpriced for what you get. For the 100 dollars you're paying per ticket and the early boarding time they could at least include breakfast or snacks. I had three major problems with this ride. The first, there is no order or effort being made to enforcing seating. There were people who were assigned to other cars that were seated on my car and because of that my family could not get seating. Since they're assigning cars they should assign seat numbers also or at least ensure that people go to the correct car. The second problem is that people were unwilling to move their bags to give other people seats. Each booth accommodates 4 people but a couple of 2 persons wanted the entire booth for themselves making difficult or other people who spent same money to get a seat. Again his problem could be easily with seat numbers. And lastly, my third problem was the ride being way too long. Too much bush, trees and every and now and then some water. For the price you're paying you'd think you'd see something more. And then when you finally get off the train and into the park you only have 90 mins to explore which is hardly enough time to get to the lookout point and back to the train. All in all I would not recommend this trip to anyone.

Andy Hamilton

I'm glad I did this but I don't think I would again. The ride out was nice - the views we're good (but aside from the trestle bridge they were all things you could see for free in less time) and the guided tour information was a pleasant diversion. The food vouchers that come with the ticket went further than I expected. The park was nice but not so spectacular that I would typically travel 4 hours for. The ride back was kind of brutal. It was almost 5 hours with the same views and no guided commentary. If I was alone and not trying to entertain kids I might have enjoyed it more but I still think that's more train sitting than I would choose to experience without more of a payoff.

Joe C

Great way to explore the fall natural scenery. The ride is long but worth it. Just wish the stay can be a bit longer. In order to explore the falls and the lookout, 1.5 hours stop isn't enough.

Saul Valadez

Beautiful views at the canyon. Train ride is way to long and you only get 1.5 hours to hike the canyon. Not enough time. Tickets are priced kinda high. I should have attended a Packers game instead. Not a trip for kids either.

Andy Fyon

Loved the destination. The lookout and the 3 waterfalls are well worth the visit. Now, it is a long train ride, so if you have young children, it would be good to bring distraction activities. Once at Agawa Canyon, the time is short - about 1.5 hours - so you are really rushed to walk the trails and to visit those 4 sites. The cafeteria on the train is a bit basic, although the staff were very friendly. Agawa Park is quite nice. Braidal Veil Falls is a gem. Watch for rate increase once fall arrives. Well worth the visit. Visited Sept 14/18.

Don Collette

Great scenic ride, park was beautiful. Ride back would never end. Longest train ride ever.

Chitiiran

This is a great trip for retirees or couples who wants to spend time with each other. Not recommendable for other demographics else. Not even kids. There is no wildlife in the park due to noise pollution of the train. What do the kids learn or experience? The journey there has some good views that passes by quick. They provide necessary heads up if you want to take pictures. Most of the view is on right side of the train on the way there and left on the way back but the train doesn't U-turn so whoever seats on the right side on the way there gets the view both times. You won't be able to switch seats to right side on return trip unless someone willingly gives up their seats like we did. The park itself is average at best. There are three attractions in the park and you have 90mins to run between them. Really! Rush it you won't have time because there will be people in the stairs and pathway ahead of you and you have you've to wait to get decent picture without people in it. The lunch meal box is $17. You have $10 voucher from the train ticket. Just get the sandwich for $6 or bring your own food. General tips, check the weather at the park not only at Sault Ste Marie town. Bring your own food.

Shannon R

The trip was very long and boring. There wasn't a lot to see. 4 hour on a train only to get off and walk to 2 different water falls that were cool. But only having an hour off the train. I would have enjoyed it more maybe in the fall or if there was more to do on the train.

Arjunlal B

I loved the train ride to Agawa Canyon. I took the ride in the fall of 2017. Train was on time. Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining car. Slightly expensive, but good food. Train has announcements for various landmarks and points along the route.

Vee O

GREAT VIEWS! The trains about 3.5 hours each way, the fall view is amazing! Comfy seats with food service cart. Great family fun if you're into hiking. The valley itself is a slice of Canadian natural beauty.

Julie Padilha

I really liked the experience! However, be aware to be more in the train than outside. Neck pillow would be helpful. Don't forget to bring water, snacks and lunch. There is no place to buy food at the park and the food prices in the train are kind of expensive. Also, I would not recomend tis trip for kids. Since it is almost 10 hours trip, kids get too irritated and bored inside of the train, the seats are not comfortable and there is nothing much to do. Also at the park there is a trail that you will climb 400 feet stairs (the view is amazing). So again, I think it is too much for kids. Don't forget to bring repelent! And last... try to seat at the right side of the train. Most of the atractions are on the right ;)

Anne Vavra

Train ride was great. Narrative on train was very informative. Food service is decent but there is no canteen in the canyon. (Even though the literature says there is.) There is only 1.5hrs to see everything in the canyon. You'll have to be quick to see everything. The time estimates are longer than necessary but they account for all the pedestrian traffic!!! We ate in the dining car after the train left the canyon. Would have preferred to sit and eat outside at the many picnic tables. (Bring your own or buy the offered box lunch-$15 for a sandwich, snack and brownie) Bring snacks for the afternoon trip back. Colours this year were not outstanding. Overall great trip!

Spartan Alum

I would recommend doing this one time. Cool scenery on the way up and nice to get out once you're at the canyon. The bottom line is this, it's an 8 hour train ride with only and hour and a half opportunity to get out and explore; 4 hours there, 1.5 outside, 4 hours back. I would recommend a pillow so you can nap on the way back, a deck of cards and pack a cooler. There is food for purchase on your ride and it's not that expensive considering they have a captive audience, but you are allowed to bring a cooler of what you'd like without alcohol. Overall it was a good experience, I just wish they could get you up there quicker and back so you had more time to explore the canyon.

Merle Reedhead

I agree with others that there isn’t enough time at the canyon, the ride gets a bit long after awhile and the trees get in the way of the view. However, I understand that the tracks are very curvy due to the landscape hence the slow speed in places. You have to prepare for 8 hours on this train and that limits the time at the canyon. Some have suggested chopping down trees along the tracks for a better view. You can’t be serious. Must be big city folk. In my opinion the train itself is “ok”. I approached a washroom during the ride, saw it overflowing with paper towel garbage on the floor and declined to use it thinking I’ll use the washroom at the canyon. I know I had read that they had “compostable toilets” at the canyon so thought I’d be seeing the next generation of porta potties. It’s just a big outhouse and smells like it. I guess I should have used the train facilities. My confusion stemmed from announcements on the train and the following phrase from the Q and A on their website. “The seating is interchangeable and will be turned in the opposite direction for the return ride.” I assumed that this meant that somehow the seating would be changed so that I would be on the other side of the train for the ride back. No, I got to see the same things on the way back as the way there. Being on a fully sold out train meant I couldn’t even get near the spectacular views of Lake Superior on the other side since all windows were blocked. Likewise those on the other side of the aisle missed most of the gorgeous small lakes and Searchmont ski resort I know it would be a bit of work to arrange but before disembarkation at the canyon all should exchange seats with those in the ones across from them for the ride home. They ask you to mark your seats for some reason so marking across the row would be perfect. Then we all get to see the best of both sides. The food is adequate, pre packaged sandwiches, nothing special but with huge lineups and staff chatting too much and not serving quickly enough. However, I did enjoy this venture, loved the scenery which can’t be overstated. Was amazed at how many people slept on the train and missed a lot. I would recommend it to friends but would advise them of my thoughts.

Jacob Schandlen

Amazing experience, highly recommend. Spectacular views and comfortable ride into the heart of the Canadian Shield.

John Hudson

A must do at least once if you enjoy the fall colors.

David Stanczyk

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train was definitely an amazing experience. The train is smooth and comfortable. We went in September so the the changes in colors were awesome to see. You get 90 mins to check out 3 sightseeing spots when you stop. I'd recommend bringing your own food/snacks in addition to the food vouchers you get ($10 each). Don't miss this attraction.

Fernando Rebeles

Great place to try on summer/fall. I would suggest you to pack some time in advance because for some reason we ended up arriving 2.5 later that expected. The same day trip is not bad, but is very fast. Check more options about, both worth it for the price but I would rather chose one with length stay. The services are ok and the trains are very clean. It’s a good experience.

Subramaniam Krishnan

Quite a disappointment the train exp. and what we got to see at the canyon. So we pay $140 for the 8 hr train ride (to and fro) and an hour and half to see couple of waterfalls. The fall colours were better when we drove around Sault Ste. Marie to be honest. May be the Thanks giving weekend isn’t the best to visit, we even had snow that weekend, but overall felt the place and experience is a bit hyped. The train ride was like travelling in a Go train nothing different or spectacular. The lakes around Soo would be nice during summer but if looking for fall colours go before Thanks giving weekend but will be nice to see the train prices reduced to half atleast and charging kids/toddlers a full ticket is not correct either

Sandra Taylor

One side of train has a better view, people are not willing to switch so travellers can experience both views Not much to do in Canyon if you aren't a hiker, wouldn't recommend it to parents of small kids as it's a long ride 4 1/2hours each way

Indranil Poddar

Enchanting experience on a train ride through the mountains and valleys of Algoma country, made even more spectacular by the Fall foliage!

Daniel Zou (Sunhope)

The train tour takes about four hours one way and stop for one and half hour for tourists to explore the park. Most people find the time staying in the patio too short.

John Twynam

The train was comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The scenery was beautiful, and the tidbits of historical info that came across the PA system were interesting. You pass by a bunch of small lakes on the way, which all look quite nice in the sun with the colours on the trees. The problem I had with it is that once you've seen one or two of these lakes, they all look basically the same. Obviously I realize that's not the tour company's fault and there's not much they can do about it. Plus, the train is moving too fast to be able to take a proper picture... By the time you see the scenery and get your camera ready, there's a tree right in your shot. The time in the canyon was only about 90 minutes, which was incredibly rushed to be able to do all three trails. What would be better is if they got you to the canyon faster so you can have more time there. The train was only moving around 40 to 50 kmph, which seems quite slow for a train. I don't know if that was by design, or if there are speed limitations due to the train or to the track.

Darlene Walsh

Yesterday we took the Agawa Canyon Train tour as part of our celebration of 45 year reunion post graduation from Algoma School of Nursing. The train trip was plagued with challenges due to hot humid weather and equipment malfunction. Many people on the train focused only on the negative. My classmates and I were enthralled with the rugged scenery and just the time we got to be together. I want to sing the praises of the staff on the train who worked under these stressful circumstances and endured undeserved harassment from some passengers. You all worked non stop and well beyond the hours you were likely paid for. Thank you so much for your efforts because you made a long day the best you could for we the passengers. Thank you so much.

Al Linton

A great get-away for a day. Colours we're beautiful enroute to the Agawa Canyon. Always enjoy train rides. The day was little dreary but fun.

Mary Christianne P

We have the train booked for September 25 and a week later they cancelled on us. (We also booked accommodations in Soo and it was nonrefundable non transferrable). They did not let us book for the Sept 25th again on website. Called their number - just audio recording. I understand that they may have overbooked the train that day but it was very inconvenient and there's not even any apologies or reasons why they cancelled. Overall, very bad experience.

Kathryn Deering

Be aware that the ticket building on Bay St. is in the parking lot of Walmart, right next to the "platform" for the tracks. Hard to use GpS to find, and signage is limited. But the train comes on time and embarkation goes smoothly. It makes for a long day of mostly sitting on board, but the scenery is worth it. At the midpoint/destination, the three hiking trails, especially the 300-step stairway to the viewpoint, end up being ridiculously crowded with people, because the trainful of passengers has the same hour and a half to see things. Best to bring your own lunch and snacks, although your ticket comes with a $10 voucher for the dining car. The tour commentary from guides happens mostly on the way north and is well-presented over the loudspeakers.

Teresa Dziobon

Great experience thank you for great time and service the trip was safe and clean ServiceTeam was professional

Dr Arun Trikha

The tour is OK. The train takes you through natural beauty for 4 hrs one way to the Canon park from Sault Ste Marie. We visited this place in August 2015 when colour on most of the leaves was still green. If you want to enjoy the beauty of colours go out in Sept/Oct. Also the waterfalls at the park were dry due to dry weather. They give you 90 minutes at the park. It is upto you how much you can walk. The shartest distance to see the falls is 25 minutes roundtrip. The bridal falls was OK.Meals inside the dining cars in not expensive as written by many reviewers. But they allow you to carry your food.We had visited and enjoyed the beauty of British Columbia before this so it was so so for us.

Ming Xia

I booked my tickets four months ahead and only to find a cancellation email this morning. What a shame!

Korey Francis

To think all this time I have been in Ontario and have not taken this ride until 2019. Touring the Agawa canyon in fall was breathtakingly beatuiful. During the peak season (late september early october) when I went the leaves are a vibrant mix of green and red and yellow and orange and they come in hues that truly dazzle. At the end of the train line you can get off and have 1.5 hours to hike and see waterfalls and a fantastic lookout of the valley. The train ride itself is very comfortable. Food is available (you get a $10 voucher), bathrooms are clean and the conductors are courteous. If you are a nerd like me then you will like that the train ride includes an audio tour over the speakers telling the history of the region from the geologic formation to the present day. If that's not really your speed and you are just here for the nice scenery then you can drown out the audio pretty easily with your own headphones. My only complaint for the entire 11 hour ride (including the return trip) was that one group in my carriage was playing their music and speaking very loudly and it was disturbing my ability to listen to the audio commentary. I wish that a conductor had asked them to keep it down or that they had shown some common courtesy to their fellow passengers. If you are a fan of nature, trains, history, or just pretty colours then I highly recommend you take this trip. It is well worth the cost. Look for special packages offered by Porter airlines to get a good deal on a hotel room too. If you are going on this trip I recommend sitting on the right side for the departure trip (which becomes the left side on the return trip)

Stephanie P

Loved it. Even in the rain it was fantastic.

Dr. Muhuntha Arumugam

Very nice and rare experience. If you love seeing some of the most beautiful parts Sault Ste.Marie, make the trip. Better do an overnight stay and go to train station early morning. The Car parking at the Train station is free. If you have climbing or walking issues, try to avoid! in exploring the sites at the stopping point :) great View from Top and the Falls

Brianna West

Attended the Murder on the Agawa Express show and they did not disappoint! Beautiful views, hilarious entertainment, and friendly people! I will definitely be taking a trip in the future to spend some time on the park next time.

James Langlois

Great time an very relaxing .lots to see an wheelchair accessible

James Eckerle

You can’t go wrong by booking a train tour in the fall, unless of course it rains. Our early fall train ride (September 21) had spectacular colors and scenery. However, there are a couple of ways that the the train experience could improve. First of all, the narration is pre-recorded and someone got the dumb idea of putting loud, cheesy music on at the same time (and the same volume) that the narration occurs. Secondly, there is little time to explore Agawa Canyon. There is only an hour and a half stopover and several trails available. A two hour stopover would work better. Thirdly, the sandwich menu is adequate, but alcoholic beverages cannot be purchased with your coupon, nor can they be brought on the train. All in all, the Agawa Canyon TrainTour was a good experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing train ride. We first boarded in car five to then sit down in very comfy seats. The scenery was amazing and the food was a great way to start the train ride. The trails were great and there was plenty of time to walk around. Lunch was also great as well. I would recommend this trip to people looking to do great nature photography. I will return on this enjoyable train ride!

INCREDIBLE!!! I want to do this every year now! It was worth every penny. Breath taking scenery all along the way. Anyone who has given a bad review on here are just picky losers who don't love wilderness and beauty!

Visited first weekend of October and the sightseeing was unlike anything else I have seen before. Just the trip on the train to get to the canyon was impressive and worth going there. Tons of bush and beautiful colors. The canyon itself was great. Got three hikes done in the 1.5 hrs we had to explore the area. We definitely walked at a steady pace down the hiking trails and took enough pictures before moving on to the next place. An amazing trip for families and friends! Make sure you bring a blanket and warm clothing in case you get cold. A neck pillow can come in handy as well. We brought our own snacks and drinks. However we still used our discount tickets and enjoyed some snacks and drinks from the canteen on the train!

Crystal cole

Sat in the 2 person seats which you have to get to the line up early to get. There is 4 person groups of seats as well. 4 hour ride to the Agawa canyon. Train Leaves at 8am sharp! Don't be late or you will not get on. They have breakfast and lunch served in the dining car. There is a boxed lunch you can buy for the hike as well for $15. (Ham/cheese sandwich on a bun, bottle of water, brownie and celery and carrot sticks with dip. You can also buy alcohol and snacks as well(car 6). You can do so when the train is moving which is a fun mission. There is a bathroom on the train so don't worry about going before you go. Beautiful fall colours right now. I did the hike to see all three waterfalls and had just enough time to run up to the lookout. You really can’t wait around and take pictures as the whole loop trail can be done in 90 minutes. We had 10 minutes to spare until we had to get back on the train. The train trip is an all day event. 8-12 drive there. 12-2 is your layover time which I feel is not enough to get Time to enjoy everything. Then 2-6 you head back. We went in mid October which was the best time. Leaves were already changing colours. It was beautiful. Definitely recommend the train trip.

Anita Reis

For the most part, this was an enjoyable experience. The scenery is spectacular. It was, however, a very draining and long day. Go well rested. My reason for only giving it 3 stars was personal. If you are even slightly prone to getting motion sickness, take non drowsy Gravol before departure, and before the return trip. I didn't, and had to ask for it when we got to the park. Needless to say, my trip up wasn't pleasant.

farzanna fakhar

It was a great experience. Train seating was very comfortable for a 10 hour ride.

JM Soh

Long train ride but well worth it! Views are spectacular!!! Seats are a bit tight if you’re tall (ie. your knees may be hitting the passenger sitting across from you!). Get 1.5 hrs in the canyon - wish there was more time. Going up the stairs to the lookout takes quite some time because of all the people walking up. I’d suggest running there to get there first or maybe mid-later during the 1.5 hours. Bring your own lunch so you can use the $10 voucher for the over-prices items on sale on the train.

krispy1121

First time ever taking a train anywhere and it was so fun! The seats are huge and comfy and there’s so much room to walk. Each ticket has a $10 voucher for the canteen which is filled with lots of snacks that come from The Mill Steakhouse & bar. (The Rice Krispy treats are great!) The actual park is nice, too, with 3 different trails you can take. 2 sets of waterfalls. There’s lots of benches and picnic tables with so much beautiful scenery. I’d definitely take the tour again and highly recommend it even for locals.

Anne de Haas

Well, the train is sort of uncomfortable and it's a long ride, but I think it's worth it to see the canyon and hike around when you get there. Some lovely views along the way too. I'm glad I went.

Doug Petry

It's true that the train is slow but that's kind of the point, it's a leisurely journey out to the canyon and back and the train is definitely of the vintage variety. We had a short unscheduled stop to fix a generator for the power, we had a door between the cars that sometimes refused to close and the seats were far from new, but it was still lots of fun and a bit of an adventure. It would have been nice to have about 15 extra minutes to spend at the canyon as well. I did the lookout hike - 300 steps up to the top, then hurried to get all the way to the bridal waterfall to take pictures. I managed to get it all in but theres not a lot of extra time. My wife and I loved the experience and met some very nice people on the train.

Wander4ward安娜漫步

Make sure you book your tickets in a few months ahead. They have no waitlist or cancellation list. The customer service is not very great.

DANIEL Braybrook

They need to remove trees along tracks so you can see fall colors. Cut the tree and load on flatbed cars. Trip was better in the 1970's and 1080's when you could see the beautiful scenery. This time it was +90°F and the AC failed on the way back to the station.

luca babici

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the tour. Based on other reviews I've read, most people do not enjoy the travel time (approximately 4 hours one way). I believe it is what you make of it. Pack a lunch, a good book, relax and listen to the guided tour. At times the train view is blocked by forest but the wait is worth it for the views at Agawa canyon! The lookout is a must see. If you don't feel like packing a lunch, food is offered on board and you get a $10 meal voucher with your train ticket (can't be used for alcohol). At the time a lunch combo was approximately $17

Rita Caplinger

I went years ago with my mom and had a wonderful time. We had lunch with Moosehead beer, the scenery on the way was beautiful and the destination was to die for! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!

Alison Walden

Nice view, but bring your own snacks as there are only two café cars with limited options. There is no dining car as mentioned in the Porter Escapes blog, that is complete fiction.

Cyndie Rodriguez

Awesome train ride. The sites were amazing and the the 300 stair hike was a little steep but the view was beautiful. The falls were absolutely gorgeous. Bug spray is highly recommended.

Lori Peesker

This was a well run event. We really enjoyed it. Beautiful.

Eva Pinnell

This was an exceptional trip to see the leaves. The train ride was very long, but a very interesting trip.

Mark Ezell

The trip was beautiful. The fall colors are starting. Overall a great experience. The seats were a bit uncomfortable over time and out trip was full, but it's peak season so no real surprise. Still 5 stars and a great value!

Matt Damota

Was Great! It's a little long for a 7 year old when you forget the bag with all the things to keep him occupied. But the views are amazing! Staff was very good also. I'll be going again. You get a 10 dollar voucher for to canteen on the train. Which is enough for lunch this is already included in the entry.

Suzanne Gingrich

It was very nice. The only criticize I had was that the Bridal vale falls was dry. Not even a trickle. This was due to a lack of seasonal rain. We we're not informed. And perhaps would have taken the trip another time. We will take the train again. Eat on the train. We brought our own food. More time for hiking

Senthil Kumaran

This is one of the best Train Tour that i ever had. Its a foliage trip. The train is neat and clean. The chairs can be flipped to to change the directions. There is a pantry where you can buy some snacks and sandwiches. sandwiches are already made and stored in coolers. Deep inside the Canyon, you will be given around 2 hours to see bridal falls, trail walk and other attractions.

M L

Great tour, plenty of time to see the falls once there. Boxed lunches available for pre-purchase, and snacks available on site. Only thing was masks and physical distancing was not enforced..

Vince Cheung

This is the only way that you get to visit the agawa canyon. I'll focus on the train ride experience for the first part, and the canyon for the second. PART ONE. FYI it is extremely difficult to purchase the train tickets for the weekends. All tour companies have already hoarded it. So you might as well join one if you are planning to visit. I will also warn you that the train ride is 4 hours one way, 8 hours round trip. So you might want to reconsider if you are not a fan of looking at nature. Train leaves at 8am sharp and will not wait for you. So if you missed it then that's too bad. The train itself is actually pretty well maintained. I STRONGLY recommend you to sit on the RIGHT side of the train. The sceneries are much better compared to the Left. Although you will have the sun shining in your face during the morning ride, but it is all worth it. Also, some of the seats will rotate direction in your way back, so don't put stuff into the pockets. There are adequate amount of washrooms on the train, and there are staff that comes every so often to clean them. I would say it's pretty impressive. There are snacks and such for purchase on the train, but you are always welcome to bring your own food, just no alcohol allowed. PART TWO Once you've reached the canyon, you will get approximately 1.5 hours to stay. You will need to plan your trip wisely as you won't be able to head back to town if you miss your train. There are two trails that you should be focusing on. The first is the lookout, which is approximately 350 steps up the stairs to look down at the whole canyon. This took me around 25 minutes round trip as the stairs are flooded with people. Once you come back down, don't bother walking the inner trail for visiting the falls. Go back to the train (where the first aid building is) and make your way towards the other end of the train. There you will find a bridge which connects to a sand road. Keep walking at a fast pace and you'll make it to the falls in under 20 minutes. Round trip should be around 35 minutes. After that, you won't have much time before the train departs.

A Palande

This tour probably will be enjoyed more by nature lovers. Young kids very likely will get bored since tour lasts over 7hrs. Food (cold sandwich and veg wraps, coffee, snacks) is available for purchase (each ticket includes $10 worth of food voucher) in 2 dinning cars, you can take your own food. There is enough space on floor to keep small box. Tour with friends is more enjoyable ( preferably with even count as cars are completely booked during peak season). Warm jackets are recommend during peak season as temperature does go low especially at 6:30am. Train comes on time and departs on time.

Sandy K.

Nice day trip with lots of lakes and scenic views. Maybe a little long for kids but worth it. If I did it again I would go in mid to late Fall I think the views would be even more amazing. The woods are rather thick in a lot of areas so I think we missed out on some amazing views

Mitzi Vaughan

The trip was so beautiful. The breakfast on the dining cart was good and since the ticket price included a 10 dollar food voucher we were pleased. The hike at Agawa was easy going. Downfall...same slow 4 hour ride back felt like 8 hours! I was defiantly ready to get off the train! Other then that it was worth it!

Hazel McChesney

We drove 8 hours to Sault Ste Marie and booked 2 nights accommodation. We were booked for October 2nd train. We picked up our tickets in the evening Oct. 1st. We arrived at the train station at 7:20 as they boarded at 7:30. Thought it was a bit funny with no train, but waited in the freezing cold along the tracks with about 800 other people who were booked to go as well. Shortly after 8:30, a lady with a C.N. jacket came along and told us the train was cancelled and would not be going as there was engine troubles..................Wow. We finally did get our money back but our travel plans were "all screwed up" since we no longer needed our booked motel room the 2nd night. What a big disappointment and I will not recommend it to anyone as when we got home, people we know had gone the week before and there was trouble on that trip and the train couldn't go all the way and they never did get to the canyon. If this is the way they run things, it will be closed soon!!

Jeff Taylor

Ride in was great but the ride out seemed slow and too long...more time that could have been spent hiking the canyon. More audio on the way back would have made the ride better. Still a great time and spectacular views.

Dogma

Don't waste your money. Trees are so close to the train you can't see anything, its all a blur as you are moving. The odd opening here and there to see the landscape. Nice colors of the trees, but definitely not worth it. Trust me. Wish someone would have told me no to go.

Bob Best

Great overall. Scenery, help from the employees and train ride where great. Picnic area and waterfalls to walk to we're very good. Just needed to be done about two hours before we were back.

Patricia Patterson

I took this trip several years ago and it was all that the advertisements said it was. Sadly you can no longer see the great vistas from the train as the trees along the tracks have grown to block your view and most of the trip is like driving through a tunnel. The ticket price of $100 for each of us is way to high for what the trip now offers and the picnic lunch at the canyon was $57.75 for 2.

Jean Brace

It was a nice train ride and a beautiful canyon unfortunately it did rain but everyone made the best of it and still had a good time. We had some nice fall colors and 3 pretty waterfalls. Just wish they would give you 2 hours at the canyon park so we could have done the lookout tour as well. 90 minutes is not enough time to do both the lookout tour and the waterfall trails.

Robert Lee

Went years ago, very nice trip. Prices start at 70.00 unless u book the hotel. But the trip in fall is georgous. Only downfall don't give u much time to explore the canyon.

Tony Laskowski

The train ride was amazing. Views were spectacular. Even though it rained it was still awesome.

Gail Banks

Beautiful scenery. Seating in the older cars was extremely uncomfortable. Facing your neighbours with no where to put your legs is not comfortable for 4 hours. More so when you are long legged. Would prefer more comfortable seating

Jake Wiser

Amazing Fall train experience, friendly staff.

cherie Devries

Our trip was great - beautiful colors, warm sunny weather, food was tasty, nice area for short hikes to see waterfalls and pleasant staff. Would recommend it!

Jeff Williamson

it was quite the relaxing experience. very informative as there were audio explanations to most of the sights. there were also warnings as to when you were approaching something worth taking pictures and they slowed down on the larger bridges as to increase the window for pictures. our son also had a blast and the on train attendants were wonderful especially with our son.

Aconea

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train, it goes into the forest which cost about 100.00 per person. I beg you if you just want to see water , rocks and trees well you can go, if not please don't waste your time and money. The ride is four hours go and four hours come and could you believe not even a free bottle of water to wet your throat for the price that you pay never again

Paul Laforet

They are not a company that I would ever consider again after they canceled a weekend tour for a group of 14 that I arranged., with no explanation whatsoever.

Katharine M

Agawa tour Line up by your train car by 7:15 to get a forward facing seat. The cloth seats are very very dirty and crusted with years of gross bacteria. Bring pillow to sit on, seats are old and very worn. Also bring warm clothes, rain gear, cards, games and boots for hiking. Bring snacks , drinks and food. Your 10.00 voucher goes toward food/drink. Very poorly run food and drink company with long unorganized lines. Be prepared to sit from 8 am-6pm very long train ride for the young and elderly. Outdated and uninteresting historical videos on small monitors that need updating.

Heba Ditta

Overall the tour was breathtaking but 1 and a half hour for exploring the canyon is not enough.

Lee

It's not a worthy trip. Over $100 ticket per person, plus a $15 lunch box if you don't prepare your own. Most carts are different and you can seat whatever you want. Don't seat the side beside the entrance, there is no views. You won't have enough time when you off the train to the park, just pick either lookout trail or falls trails. If I have another chance, I will choose Algonquin park over this trip for sure.

James Hiner

I would give this review zero stars if I could. The entire trip to the park, there and back took 8.5 hours. All I seen the entire trip was trees blocking my view. The park was nothing special. Watch out for the goose dropping on the paths. This scam of a train trip was horrible. They grossly over charge for this boring, waste of a day. Avoid this one like the plague.

Ankit Agrawal

Very beautiful views during the fall, friendly staff and overall a great experience. Would recommend to keep some board games for the train journey, made our journey more fun :)

Junaid Majid

Scenery is amazing. The train stopped in the middle and we had to wait for the 2nd engine to come to push us up the hill. The time at the park was reduced but it was definitely worth it. The food is really expensive on the train so it best if you bring your own. Would definitely recommend

Mary Walker

Fantastic trip. Long day, but would highly recommend it. Loved the scenery and fall colours. Matt and Cathy's commentaries were knowledgeable and fun

Geoff F

This was a great experience. Get to see the scenery from the comforts of the train. No need to concern yourself scout inclement weather at all affecting your trip. When you arrive at the provincial park you do only get 90 minutes on site which is too little in my mind. It would be nice to be able to spend more time to enjoy the sites stretch your legs and maybe just enjoy the location more. I guess its simply a matter of logistics in terms of getting back to base at a reasonable time. Regardless it was worth the drive/experience, RECOMMENDED!

Sarabi Star

Good tour. Worth to see the sceneries. Red Train seats were clean.

Mara Dionisi

Spectacular! Absolutely beautiful. The scenery, the train, the history and the majestic beauty of our country never ceases to amaze me. If you like trains and love ???????? Canada and all its history and beauty. OR if you love trains and like Canada. Anyway you look at the Agawa Canyon Train tour it's yet another bit of the culture that has added to the creation of our 'TRUE NORTH STRONG and FREE' country. This is truly worth experiencing.

Mj Moncher

First took this ride as a child back when they ran the snow train. Fall colors were stunning. It is not cheap, but after your trip you understand why it sells out!! Two words of advice if you buy online, read the fine print. You have to exchange your voucher for your ticket at the box office before you board your assigned car. Also, plan to spend 2-3 hours over at the Bush Plane museum the day before or after the train ride.

Alan Yang

At least 3 days arrangement, driving around 1400 kilometres, spending 7 and a half hours on train, only staying 1 hour and a half in the valley, do you think the tour worth of more than $900 for two peopled? The view is not bad, but limited because of the time, and you can find the similar ones in lots of places. If some shameless people continuously talk loudly beside you on the train, that is also a torture.

Steven Marcucci

Musky Toes The train ride wasn't great. We were in coach. Coach is not comfortable, no tables and little leg room. Pay extra and get the upgraded train car. No question on that. You see lots of trees and little else on the ride to the canyon. The canyon is full of mosquitoes. Like freaking full of them. We were swarmed by 30 to 40 of them as soon as you walk away fwom the train. Got bit like 50 times. Everyone practically ran from the waterfall site right after we were done with pictures. Bring OFF or your favorite mosquitoe repellent. 1 can costs 14 dollars on the train and they ran out fast. The mosquitoes actually ruined the trip. Really bad. Plus the train ride was not scenic at all, can't see anything except trees. A ride on the highway is mor scenic.

Twig Casa

A must do adventure

Wasif A

Went with a group of 8 on Oct 10th (2021). All were first timers. Covid protocol was fantastic. Super disappointed at the on board food/snack selection though. This is nearly a 8 hour train ride with a 90 min stop in between. So parents with young children, beware. Kiddie boredom runs overtime unless you bring games and toys to keep them/yourselves occupied. Furthermore, the only onboard food items for sale - which you don't really find out about beforehand unfortunately - were cheap granola bars, chocolate bars, little bags of chips and pop/beer/water/energy drinks. On a 9.5 hour journey!!! No hot drinks option whatsoever. When we asked staff about it, were told they weren't given new/adequate supply as the train ends for the season the day after!!! Whaaaat??? I definitely didn't see an end of season discount in my $125 ticket price, but service offering gets to be super inferior?? Just horrible!

Phyllis Schad

I would not recommend this train ride if you are tall or have bad joints. Seating is very uncomfortable with less leg room than an airplane as seats are grouped in sets of 4 facing each other. I'm 5"7" and was knee to knee with the 6' man across from me. Views are very limited most of the time as foliage is right at trackside. The ride is 8hrs long with only 90 minutes to explore the canyon. This is not worth the expense and waste of a whole day.

Uday Mondal

Nice and exciting, 90 minutes journey, stop at the canyon. there is no adequate time to view all of the places unless you're pretty fast.

Deborah Eddy

The guided train tour was amazing! It was all day so be prepared. Have your camera ready also. There are so many beautiful lakes and priceless views on your way up the mountain then into the canyon. Once you get to the bottom, the train stops for close to two hours you get off and explore. Climb to the lookout, walk the trails, go fishing, have a picnic, see the falls or sit by the river and enjoy the beauty. We loved it! They sell boxed lunches on the train if you don't bring your own (you get $10 off the cost with your tkt.) I don't recall anyone bringing coolers on the train though so check before you consider that. It's a lovely way to spend the day!

Kristen Nickel

Very good hamburger and fries. Nice friendly waitresses. Hometown diner. Busy place so you know it's good!

Clyde Simpson

Enjoy the whole event. Canyon is attractive, but is only part of the experience.

Geralyn Andres

Overall tour was good. Most of the good scenery is on the East side of the train. Hike in the canyon was wonderful. If you plan accordingly and are in decent athletic shape you can make to the lookout and to both waterfalls in your 90 minute allotment. I suggest bring all your own food and non alcoholic beverages as the wait was long and the food left much to be desired. Long ride for children. Bring other things for them to do.

Donald Hudgens

This train ride was too long to see just trees, some water and rocks. We sat on the left side of the train and the majority of the sights to see were on the right hand side. We were still on the wrong side of the train for the trip back. My husband has arthritis and the seats were terrible on his back. Bring your own snacks and something for the kids to do. This is a long ride without internet use for the cell phone. Remember the bug spray! The deer flies and mosquitoes at the canyon ate us up. We walked through the wooded paths on the way to the falls and it was better to walk along the train tracks on the way back. I was looking forward to seeing some kind of wild life. None. Pretty scenery when available to see.

Patrick Whitlatch

Really enjoyed the trip. Pretty amazing views, even if you had to catch a lot of them through the trees. The only complaint I had was they never shut the train engine down once we got to the park and it permeated the entire valley. It would have been nice to take a 5 hour train ride and then get some silence in the Canadian "wilderness" instead of listening to the train.

M Redmond

The train ride was a lovely way to see the fall leaves and the waterfalls were in fine form because there had been a big rain storm the night before! The train backs into the station at the start. Since the seats face each other in pairs, if you want to see the trip out looking forward, face the direction the train will be going in. You will see it in reverse on the return trip. Not to worry if your seat faces the rear, you will simply see the views coming towards you on the return trip. The only reason I have rated this at 4 stars is due to the closeness of the seats for foot space.

Debbie Norton

Make sure u wear the proper shoes to walk in when u get to the canyon Scenery is lovely we have a beautiful country. Even though it rained the whole time there and back still good would do it again

Vicki Cook

I have ALWAYS wanted to do this.. beautiful fall colors and scenery. Loved the train ride personally. Other reviews are true about food prices, hiking times etc. Not really handicapped accessible for our elderly friend and a few other people.. had difficulty getting on and off.

Rex Webster

Awesome! My first trip was 35 years ago and I've been four times since then. Still a great place to go with the family! Stayed right across from the train depot and enjoyed some downtown entertainment right on the street.

Lisa Laninga-Twohey

This is a lovely way to explore this area. You have to be ready to take pictures quickly as sometimes you you only have seconds. When you get to the canyon it is amazing. It is so beautiful here. You see what the group of 7 seen. Bring good shoes as there is a bit of a hike to each falls bit it is well worth it.

Noah S

Hardly any time to enjoy . Basically a paid go train ride for entertainment. Should allow you to get off train for the night ,camp. Return on train.

Becky Slone

Took the train with a party of 5. Worst experience ever. All you see is trees on the very long ride there and back. The train was slow going and was smelly like trash. Don’t waste your money on this train ride not worth it. Many people fell asleep since it was so boring. Including kids. Only parts you can see besides the trees are what you can see on the website. Waterfalls were subpar. Total waste of a days trip.

Labrador Kiko

Im a bit dispointing as already Oct and not seeing much colour here. A long journey trip. The river falls are not exciting but the trails are nice. The train schedule is tight, it allowed us only an hour and half to walk around. There is only one train per day. The food service is good . You need to prebook the train ticket before u come.

Lisa Lagasse

We found this disappointing. Train is old and sight seeing Windows are dirty and fogged because of broken seals. Box lunch should be included. Boring ride most of the way and canyon really isn't that impressive. It was freezing cold in our car and I asked twice to turn up the heat and twice it was ignored despite many cold passengers. Too overpriced for what you get!!

Sam Sami

The scenery is amazing! The trip is a rip off!!!! I paid over $380 for my family ,I'm disappointed because : 1 There is no order when it comes to seating, 2 years ago and now again we had the same problem..a lot of ppl from India and Arabs that were talking sooo loud and laughing like it was a market..it ruined the whole train ride! Why aren't there any signs and stuff to enforce this?? Keep quiet..let everyone enjoy this expensive ride! 2 The stuff was unprofessional..the girl that was taking the garbage at the end made fun of my elderly mom because she wasn't speaking English, WOW..I was a seat behind. We won't go there again..too expensive for what they offer!!!

Carol Pealow

We enjoyed our day. Lots to see along the way. Very nice stop at the park as well.

Elli R

Considering the whole point of the train ride is to see Nature and scenery, you do in fact do that. Do I suggest doing this trip if you have young kids? No. it's a lot of sitting. Do I suggest it if you want to see nature? Yes. that's the whole point of it. The river and waterfalls are lovely but I never managed to make it too the lookout as people were rushing to get up there and cutting in front of others. You do need more time there as 1.5 hours isn't very long specially if you're not a fast walker or if you are trying to take photos, you have to kind of rush. Though I found it worth it as it was getting away from the big cities and being free from phones and such. The only downsides are the cabin I was in the seats weren't too great and there wasn't a lot of leg room (Problem if you're tall) but least you can kind of walk up and down. I would make sure to pack your own food and extra water though.

Claude Brunet

Absolute waste of money!! The train seats were very uncomfortable and the trip in and out is a total of 8 hours. Nowhere have we found that little tidbit in their promotional pamphlets. It's a very tiring and boring and rough ride into the canyon. The tracks in are overgrown with brush on both sides so anytime there is a lake to be seen you can't see it because of the brush. The dining car is an absolute horror--cars were being called to the dining car before the previous car's customers had left so you had people standing around waiting for a seat or giving up and returning to their seats. Toast & coffee $6.00. Staff members walking the aisles with walkie talkies competing with the video, which was of very poor quality. Then there is the canyon. You have 1 1/2 hours to walk around to see 4 waterfalls and climb 300 steps to the outlook. All in all it was a huge waste of time and money. Sault Ste Marie should give serious thought to closing down this "attraction". At $110.00 per ticket plus 2 nights at a motel makes it a very expensive trip--all-in-all not worth the money. We saw scenery much more beautiful (and free) on our side trip to Elliot Lake. This attraction gets no stars.

Usman Mehmood

Wonderful train ride. Not much to choose from when it comes to food, but the scenery along the way is breathtaking. Goes through some beautiful areas and loved the tour recording. Looking points when we stopped were also great and we got some memorable shots. Would recommend. Definitely a bit expensive though, and I can see how little kids would get tired.
