We recently completed switching all of our insurance away from McKillop so I finally feel secure enough to share our experience(s). The front desk staff were apathetic but our biggest issue was with Frank Killinger, one of the advisors. When I moved in with my husband, lies were told related to who would be able to cover our now vacant rental home so we put it under my husband's insurance since it would now be my "primary residence" and was told by Frank to notify him or insurance if the property were to ever be vacant. When we decided to sell the home and therefore no longer had renters, I called him to notify him of the home's vacancy and was met with an annoyed aggressive tone that "you're calling me way too early, you shouldn't be calling me until the house is sold". That, along with how he rushed us through any personal visits and phone calls did not instill confidence, definitely made us feel like we were wasting his time.
We insured a cargo hauler trailer through Frank, which we had definitely mentioned had been partially "camperized" with just a few features and we wanted to make sure we had comprehensive insurance. He brushed us off and rudely rushed us out of his office as usual. Then the worst happened, our trailer was actually stolen! Before the police recovered it a full week later, we called Frank on Nov 7/ 2017 at 1500 to notify him of the theft and begin the process of filing a claim. Our phone call was primarily to arrange a meeting to discuss things in person (we're old-fashioned like that) but he immediately became defensive and spoke in an aggressive tone (literally shouting at some points, do other people in the office not hear him?) stating that we never told him or made any indication that the trailer was camperized (I am 100% positive we did since we had questions about insuring internal components such as furnace and on-demand propane water heater). Frank complained he was way to busy to deal with this, quote "I've got way too much stuff on my plate" and continued to speak in a rude, mumbling and whispered tone that would frequently trail off so we weren't sure if he was still talking to us or himself quietly. When he repeatedly refused to have us come into the office, his reason being that it was "too early to submit this to an adjustor" since Frank stated "you don't even know if the police are gonna find your trailer yet!" we wanted to clarify if we could submit the claim as a trailer, as we'd recently learned is what the insurance company thought it was, OR as a camper with its contents and would those contents be covered by our trailer or house insurance. We didn't want to mis-represent something to the insurance company but we figured there may be a strategy to submit a claim just for the trailer and take a loss on the home contents to avoid having a home insurance claim and ultimately we just wanted some guidance through the insurance claim process. Frank repeatedly stated "that's not my job, we'll just have to submit it and see what happens" but we didn't want to submit our claim without some answers. We asked and he refused to ask an adjustor our question before we submitted a claim. During the call, I badly wanted to ask him "If you're going to defer everything through an adjustor, why are we working through you?!" At the beginning of the call he asked a few questions about the theft including date, time and whether or not there was a hitch lock. We answered these questions no less than 5 times throughout the conversation, as he kept circling back to the hitchlock in an almost accusatory way (it felt like he was suggesting we didn't have a hitchlock and it was our fault). After all of our issues with Frank, we decided to bypass him and talk directly Intact insurance, whose first questions was "why didn't you file this claim as soon as the trailer was stolen?!" to which we replied what advice Frank had given us. Fortunately, the story has a happy ending, the trailer was found and we've moved all of our insurance elsewhere. P.S. Kirkham insurance is great
