On Nov. 9, 2020, Ardeshir Tahbaz at Downtown Notary commissioned a financial statement and trial affidavit for me. After I served them on the other party as part of the trial record, I contacted him again and asked him to commission the affidavit of service. He said it would be $35 but later I was charged $59. I asked why and he said there was an exhibit. I realized he was referred to the email printout attached to the affidavit of service (I am allowed to serve the other party by email). I checked and found he had indeed stamped the email. I pointed out that I had commissioned affidavits of service at the filing counter of the courthouse many times and staff there did nothing to the email, they just signed the last page of the affidavit of service. If the filing office does not require the commissioning of the email on an affidavit of service and I did not request this, I see no reason to charge for this "service." He was totally inflexible on the issue, even though I had suggested that as he is a family lawyer he could prepare a factum for my trial. I had planned to use Downtown Notary in the future, but will not as a result of this experience.

Booked an appointment, explained we needed a document notarized re: separation and child support - when they got here they stated we do not give legal advice and then went on to give us legal advice telling my husband and I that my husband cannot sign off on paying support ( as our lawyers told us one of us pays based on income) they went on to tell us child support is not based on income; of course it is! my letter stated I was going to pay! She then notarized one and then took it back stating she couldn’t do it! Ridiculous service! Don’t bother!

Wow, that was easy. One phone call and the web meeting was setup and preceded by easy to use instructions to upload documents followed by a webcam conf for authentication. Everyone at Downtown Notary was friendly and efficient. Great experience, hopefully this will become a legally accepted way of dispensing notary services even after the emergency measures are over. I used them once before this and they were equally efficient, friendly and accommodating in person.

The service was convenient and worked as described and the price is reasonable. My one issue was the late fee that was added to my bill. The service came to $30 and I got charged $5 for being 8 minutes late. At that rate, the hourly rate would be almost $60 per hour! That's double the rate for the notary to come to the meeting and complete the transaction. I understand that time is valuable but for 8 minutes it seems petty if the Notary is hoping for repeat or referred business.

While the receptionist/email coordinator I was originally corresponding with, Sherie, was a little frustrating to work with, I found Ardeshir to be incredibly lovely, professional, easy to talk to and work with, and above all else very thorough at making sure I understood everything. It took 10 emails with Sherie to set up an appointment as she kept asking me to repeat various parts of my request (the day, the time, the location) that were all actually in my original correspondence.
