Free legal advice!

I was dismayed at both the attitude and information presented by the lawyer (telephone only). From the very start he was LANDLORD ORIENTED: the landlord's rights, that they could file an N5 on me, that I could probably, that I could likely never win a harassment suit against this landlord (even though they were and are harassing me! Curiously he even knew the new name - which is -----.I feel that this service is worse than useless-it just upsets the client with poor information and scary opinion-get your own legal advice from elsewhere or look it up-this man should be working in corporate law-perhaps they have a position at skyline living Finally about the bedbug problem I had he stated (correcting me) "we don't know if they are pesticides that they use" -my golly I have to be out for 6 hours , pets out etc....I don't know but they must not be spraying air...there is another pro-landlord statement. When your mother told you "you get what you pay for " she was apparently right...in the case of this legal clinic you pay nothing and you get less than nothing because the whole experience with this man and office will just upset and somewhat misinform you. Get your own information from other sources is my advice

Needed there help and there lining up to help

Great help for low income legal assistance.

Pretty efficient

Disturbing when the ppl who work here CHUCKLE about ppl in need not being able to contact landlord tenant board

If it happens complain to the Ombudsmen What is legal is service and you do have the right to that I am retraining my education after being a mother of 4 with a special education challenged child. I have had to negotiate for my child and against people who are "targeting" to remove funding from those programs. I know when I am hear bias or prejudice. I also know when you walk into a conversation and you are being referred to as "she" and they arent introducing themselves or listening that a prearranged deal, program or funding agenda exists. I felt insulted when I discovered that the lawyer went to the trouble to pretend to misunderstand. Since I did bring in the proof & then I got sent a letter that I didnt while in the office I saw it the file. Dates were changed on a letter to pretend that they didnt have to address fixing the issue. Telling someone their confused when your style is to ask random questions to intimidate isnt service either. Human rights issues around housing divorce or missing people isnt something where the agenda of vetting or no service and empty offices or no advocates to problem solve the ( other issues ) created by any govt or public error of law. That is not compassionate or service orientated. When the bias can result in education loss of privilege or homelessness BACK ROOM DEALS or open insults are unprofessional. It is however research for grant money that "scews "the results and that is an interesting choice. Other large cities dont have these issues because they took the funding and implemented people based programs. You do serve the people. If you harm someone that results in hospital stay it costs more than a legal appointment. Be more respectful of how you are honoring your community. Your front office staff must be so embarrassed to sit there every day and witness such contempt for your own community members. Poverty bias is a form of discrimination and so is asking about so do you have a drivers license when it isnt related to the case. It is a screening device? If the next question is do you have a passport then they are really asking if you are a criminal?

Very helpful

Nice Place ,

Excellent staff..

Very knowledgeable staff. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Conclusion: landlords do not have the right to deny any of your guests access [no trespassing orders] without a court order.

Since Covid it seems people are burnt out. The receptionist was friendly. The person working from home treated my call like I was inconveniencing them. Everyone just passing the buck, trying to get off the phone as quickly as possible.

Great place for legal advice

I only used them once for a dispute with my landlord and they walked me through the entire process; they even doubled-checked my T2 and T6 papers for any errors. No complaints here!

Was extremely helpful in answering my legal questions and provided help in an extremely timely manner. Would recommend and would be using this service in the future to verify my legal rights.

Very understanding and very helpful.

Don’t waste your time with this place! I called this clinic to have a simple form notarized and was refused service. It would have been a quick appointment, probably less than 10 minutes. The woman that I spoke with was clearly not even interested in speaking with me and was SO rude. She was dismissive, cut me off while I was speaking and the tone of her voice was disgusting for someone working in a “community clinic”/customer service. She told me that their clinic does not perform this service and the only place I could have my form notarized was City Hall, which is 100% false information as I called City Hall to clarify this! It also states on this clinics website that they do offer notary services. This clinic was unprofessional and uneducated. Go somewhere else and save yourself the time and headache with this “community clinic”.

I'm biased since I sit on the Board of Directors but in that capacity, the Board does all that it can to facilitate the great work that the Clinic does.

Great place for help

Really useful and helpful place ...thankyou

Sort of helpfull.

Ok place

I have a legal problem with my former landlord regarding no heat and harassment. I filed applications with the Landlord and Tenant Board, as well as the Ontario Human Rights Commission. I sought the Hamilton Community Legal Clinic for assistance. The intake worker was lovely when I first called, however I was more than disappointed with the legal representative that contacted me this afternoon. I sent all relevant information as per required and all she told me when I asked a question was "...that's something you have to bring up at the hearing." There was no legal advice. It seemed like she wanted to get off the phone quickly. This organization is prejudiced and it's sad that I'm another person who will have to do the research myself or fall through the cracks. Shame on you, HCLC.

Gave me advice on issues with landlord that have been helpful in not only beating the landlord in court but forcing them to withdraw the case after I proved faulty record keeping.

Very helpful.

Awesome service..great help. Knowledge staff . Jerome is the best.

They have been a huge help to me at a very difficult time.

Good info very helpful

Were able to quickly answer my questions and tell me the next date for the ID clinic. Hope everything works out in the future with that.

For a service thats intended to help the community they dont start off like that with first point of contact; receieved so much attitude from a call I placed to ask for help & the girl made it clear she did not want to stay on the phone a second longer than it had to, kept cutting me off & barely gave me a chance to speak (funny since how else is she going to know the problem?).

I originally gave a bad review, but due to recieving the help/information needed; I had to change my opinion and review. Although, it did take a while to recieve a response; they went out of their way to contact me on a Saturday.

The lawyer I got put with has been going above and beyond for me

Great legal help. Jerome was very knowledgeable and helpful with me thru my whole disability claim..and also with a landlord issue. Thank you so much Jerome

Very helpful and informative with landlord tenant act.

If I could give less than one star I would. The lawyer assigned to my case never called me back despite the phone messages I left her and emails I sent her. She missed not one but TWO legal deadlines, which was devastating for my case, and her boss tried to slither away from the Clinic's responsibility for its mistakes. A virtuous commitment to the poor and social justice, indeed. In the end, I took the case on myself, did all of my own research, and I won, despite the catastrophe of this Clinic's 'professional representation.'

Hard to contact your lawyer. Otherwise fantastic! They take their time to make sure you understand every inch of what is going on.

Very helpful

Helped my friend when they had no Id great community resource.

Great resource but can be difficult to reach someone now that they are providing service only by phone. I Often have to make several calls back and forth before actually speaking to someone

Staff here are very helpful and nice

They were very courteous and respectful completing a form I needed took five minutes I recommend them to anyone who has legal issues

This place has been great for helping.

Extremely convenient and professional. I'm very grateful for this service.
