This spring my fiancee and I purchased our first home. As expected there was a load of stress put on us during this period and we were a little overwhelmed with everything that needed to be done before we closed. In short - because my previous reviews aren't showing up for some reason: terrible firm, and terrible experience. Doug Hill in particular was a useless lawyer who almost ruined my relatives lives financially because of their negligence, and we are currently suing them for it.

Horrible experience. They had me waiting 5 hours on the day of my move to release the keys to me. They had their money, it took thethem 3 hours to transfer it to the respective parties lawyer and then I continued to wait another 2 hours while they had lunch before they processed everything and released the keys to me. I have 2 small children, had child care arranged, people booked days off work to help. We had a truck and all ready to go first thing in the morning and had to wait for them to get back from lunch to start moving. VERY disappointing experience on top of Doug Hill releasing information to my ex husband when he was explicitly asked not to as we were in the middle of a not great separation. Overall, horrible horrible experience. Lesson learned

His team answered all of our questions, were quick to respond, very professional and made the entire process feel seamless. Closing day was so smooth and we got into our home bright & early! I am not the type of person to give a negative review on anyone, but I feel that I must write one now, to let other potential clients know what I experienced dealing with Mr. Hill and his staff. Information was sent to Mr. Hill to look over and have me sign in order to transfer property. After waiting over a month, I contacted his office and spoke to Sarah. She seems bored when I explained that I needed him to contact me to sign the papers. She said that she would let him know. Another five days went by with no return call. Over the next 2 weeks I called several times and spoke to Sarah, and Heddie, another staff member. Every time I called they said that he was either with clients, or was not in the office. After waiting another week with no call back, I let them know that I would no longer require Mr. Hill as my solicitor. I found another lawyer and it was taken care of in no time.

This Law Office was a referral from The Peggy Hill Team on the closing of a real estate sale. The Sale was simple and straightforward, no issues. The issue arose when we went to sign the documents on closing day and the fee for this transaction was $4200.00 - more than double a normal fee. I immediately asked why this was such a high fee and was told 'Doug" would email me upon his return. He did.. he explained that his firms services were more than likely above and beyond - alas this was not the case at all, the firm was no better than other lawyers I have used in the past, I explained this to him and requested a refund. He ignored the email for a couple of weeks, I contacted him again and did advise I wanted a partial refund and as to why with facts enclosed, I also advised I was going to review his law office - the response I then received was quite horrendous, he accused me of extortion and he would be keeping "track of my emails" should I go on Social Media! This lawyer is awful, his fees are literally double any lawyer in Barrie and I will be rating the Peggy Hill Team also for giving such a bad referral to their clients, I guess I should have done my homework and researched this law firm, as it seems he does not have very good relationships with clients. Stay away!

The Law Firm Hogben Mayhew Hill is the only law firm in Barrie of numerous I contacted for help that actually took the time to help. I met with Doug Hill he is the nicest, done to earth, caring person that you would be wanting to deal with in a life stress or important life matter situation. The office staff is friendly, caring and very helpful. I would recommend this law firm for anyone who wants things done promptly and efficently. The lady that does up the closings makes financial decisions on your behalf and does not disclose those decisions until you pick up the keys. She does not read all the paperwork that is involved in your file and skips just to a number section. What the lawyer said was going to happen only 2 days before, did not as this lady made changes that she told no one about. Terrible experience.

Doug Hill has been our lawyer for over 35 yrs. He has been there when we needed him. He assisted us when we had issues building our first house and most recently with a claim on our house insurance. We had been dealing with the insurance for over six months. Doug listened to our concerns and answered all our questions. He gave us good honest advice and direction. We don’t know what he did, he performed magic and the insurance company settled within a week. He is fast, efficient and affordable. He is very professional when dealing with people. In our eyes, Doug is amazing, we will continue to go to Doug for assistance.

My experience with Mr. Hill was a negative one. Each time I was in an appointment with him he would either answer a phone call or another matter would arise and he would just leave the room. I never had a meeting with him where he just focused on my concerns without being interrupted by someone else’s. My matters did not seem to be important to him. Would not recommend using him if you want your matters taken seriously.
