I recently purchased a home and used Highfield Law on the recommendation of my realtor.
I've used a few different lawyers for real estate transactions in the Edmonton area, and right off the bat fees were "estimated" and never given in full. Their justification is that they only charge for services used so they don't overcharge you, but when all was said and done their fees were the same as other real estate lawyers in the area. Again, it all worked out but the transparency was lacking.
Next came the signing of documents. An assistant met my wife and I at our car, gave us a clipboard of docs, sign em and call id you have questions. With COVID-19 I'm willing to give a bit of a pass on this one, but there were some big communication errors that came as a result, including caveats on landtitle that I was unaware of until after the fact (again, in fairness to Highfield my realtor shares in this blame as well).
The icing on the cake was getting the final copy of land title showing my and my wife's name on title. Literally months went by with no contact from Highfield. Whenever I contacted them they made me feel like a burden and it was the other lawyer/lenders fault for taking so long...never them.
On June 26th I got in touch with someone at Highfield who assured me landtitle would be done by the end of the next week. I never heard back until I emailed them again on July 19th. All of a sudden 1st thing Monday July 20th they emailed me a copy of the title. Considering the amount of fees I paid it would have been nice to get an official copy in the mail. It would have been nice to be proactive and have them take the initiative to get this document for me, but at every opportunity I felt like a burden. It was almost like they were doing me a favor and I wasn't important to them.
For the amount of money you'll spend on a lawyer, I recommend looking elsewhere. Cheers.
