The service was amazing but the food was not worth the price you pay for. It was a good experience but I wish the food has more flavour

It's really really nice place that me and my family were here. All staffs were patience and warmth. Will be back.

Rida Atoui

We had a very romantic evening dinner to celebrate our engagement. The food, wine and staff were absolutely wonderful.

Ahmed Taha

I stop in here for lunch at least once a week since I work in the building. I'm always seated and served quickly so I can back to work right away. I recommend the calimari. Salads are very nice as well.

Talid Jalbout

Softly lit, quiet atmosphere, excellent service (not mention entertaining...thank you Paco!), and the steak is incredible! So tender and flavorful, perfectly seasoned!

Kat Gauthier

I've heard many good things about this place so went to try it out. The place had a great atmosphere. Staff were extremely pleasant to deal with. Waiters were prompt. Where this place fell short was my steak. For $120 steak it had many tough bits that I had difficulty chewing and ended up spitting out on my plate. I had better steak at the keg for a fraction of the cost. Very dissapointed in the steak. Otherwise everything was superb.

Mark Budala

Excellent experience. Our server Matthew was perfect! Food was fantastic. Absolutely a wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to come back!

Chris and Stephanie Ashley

First time at Hy's. It was alright. Our table was not the greatest. They didn't bring out the drink menu so we didn't know how much we were spending. And our steak was sadly underwhelming. And theres no prime rib!

I had my first Hy's experience last night. The service was impeccable, the food was incredible, and the atmosphere was perfect. Benjamin was a phenomenal server, and truly took care of our party. He made the experience "joie de vivre''. Highly recommend!

Josh Virtanen

Very disappointing but I guess standards should be altered when visiting a third world country. Vegetables were about on a par with Denny's, the steak was slightly better. If this was a restaurant in the U.S. they wouldn't be able to charge a quarter of what they are charging for the quality level of the food. If visiting Winnipeg I would recommend Original Joe's for restaurant food closer to first world standards, certainly not this place. If you are a Canadacan then this is probably a good place for you to eat.

Tracy L

Caesar salad is amazing and of course steak is on point! The burger for lunch is delicious!

Kerry Hogan

Had the best experience last night. We got engaged at Hys last night and the service was extraordinary. Our server was Andrew and we both thought he was the kindest, nicest, knowledgeable server. It was a perfect night thank you thank you thank you Hys and Andrew.

This is one of Winnipegs premier steakhouses. The food is lovely and decor impeccable and the service excellent. We went for burger week and $18. Burger and fries with their famous cheese toast. Very good. Other meals we have had there mainly steak delish. The wine and cocktails for 2 people would make up half the bill. I think too much $14. For a cocktail. and cheapest wine $45.a bottle and $55.a glass for brut Champagne and $25. for a less quality. Went for 2018 burger week. Delish. The peppercorns sauce a little spicy. Had cocktails and wine for our 48th anniversary. Server was amazing and friendly. Went today for Burger Week for 49th wedding anniversary and the burger was just delicious. Cheese toast Burger it was called. We went at lunch time in the lounge was just absolutely packed. Our server was a very nice and friendly young woman.

Chelsea Owasi

Great service. Dinner was exceptional. My bartender/server Karly was excellent.

We really enjoyed the food and the service, both were excellent. Our only disappointment is the removal from their menu the mac and cheese option and the twice baked stuffed potato. These two have been long time favourites for some people in our party. It appears that menu changes are made by the national office and the regional restaurants don't have any say in particular dishes that are favoured in their region.

Patty Back

Service was very good, though a companion found the hostess rude in the way she asked to take off his hat, but all props to our servers and the chefs. Food was filling and appetizing. You pay for both experience and quality. Though high scale, it didn't feel suffocating to have conversations, which is a must in any dining experience I find. Came for the first time for Burger Week, which by the way was awesome! The beef patty was great, the lobster deep fried deliciousness, but not oily at all, and the sauce just went well with the bitterness of arugula (which I usually stay away from), really lovely! ....But will probably come at least once or twice every year (it is a bit pricey, once we bought a bottle of wine, I wanted to keep buying more, and once I tried the cheesecake, I bought another to go... I mean, it's hard to stop). Steak medium well done (because my friend is crazy T.T), but he said it was also scrumptious! I LOVE the Jumbo Scallops with the passionfruit beurre blanc... T.T I mean, it was so juicy and the sauce was so beautiful, that I swirled the huge and crispy, not oily, filling onion rings all over it, and the bread from the burger... I wish I could have just bought the sauce by itself... xD) And cheese toast... what? Gotta get the cheese toast, just saying, been making it perfectly since 1955. Desserts: Banana Foster is out, my god! So SAD!! I really wanted to see the flames dance on desserts... but alas... Belgian Chocolate Bourbon Cake, which had more of a thick, smooth mouse, not too heavy, but by itself can be eaten between two people east and be satisfied. But I crave desserts more, so I got the cheesecake as well. I am not a fan of cheesecake, usually too crumbly crust, too heavy cake with either too sweet or too sour, and a berry compote tries to complement the cheesecake, but I never found one that really could, until today. I haven't reviewed foods for so long because it's been a while since I've been excited (Though shout out to Sous Sol, I will also be making a lengthy review for them soon. Though in poor taste because this is a review for Hy's Steakhouse, but I am highly recommending both! Support xD). Best cheesecake ever..so far!! XD Had a lovely hint of orange in the cheesecake, creamy and not too heavy or dense, the crust was soft, but not too crumbly, it came apart together with the cake, and you can enjoy together. The berry compote was perfect as not overwhelmed by tartness of berries, nor the sugar. I got TWO! And I wanted more... Gotta save up and come back again. Everyone should clamour to ask for Banana Foster again!! No travelling anytime soon, so where is the closest place I can get that, with the quality that surely Hy's Steakhouse will bring again. And thank you for all the servers we had on the second floor from 8is to 10ish PM, beautiful service and quality! Wish I could remember names, but can't xD I wish I can write more... truly highly recommend!

David Brookes

Worst steak i've ever had in what is supposed to be a high-end steak house. Took my friends from Toronto. Overpriced. Steak was gristly and underweight. Was like eating at a bad chain.

Patrick Flynn

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday Saturday evening and our server Cameron was wonderful! Very funny and personable and gave us excellent service all evening. The food was also delicious!

Pierre Niyungeko

Love this place. I have an allergy to garlic and they can make a great meal for me. Trouble is I can never decide what to have because I actually have choices. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Very knowledgeable on the wine too. Hy-ly recommend ????

David Wiebe

Wow, amazing service. Food was 10/10 would eat again - tuna, calamari, the streak. And even the garlic toast was too money . Benjamin the server was amazing. Would go again

Kimberly Anne St-Laurent

My favourite le burger week burger so far. Delicious!

Greg

Hy's Steakhouse was absolutely fantastic The food was excellent Everything was cooked to our specific instructions God Bless our waitress she was phenomenal her name was Kaley She was knowledgeable , attentive without being intrusive or overbearing we ordered chateau Briand done tableside it was fabulous She was always smiling &very pleasant even took as picture of us if you go to tHy's ask for her she'll make your evening wonderful we will be back Kathy & Allan Baryski

Laura Hanna

Terrible lighting so so steak waiter was great way over priced

Randell Loster

I really do not know why people are saying the food is good here. My friend and I got a Costco gift certificate for this place to try it out and we both actually laughed at the quality of the food. We’re not picky people nor do we have exquisite expectations. However I can tell when food is awful.

John Geall

OVERPRICED. Went the other night and ordered steak gorgonzola. The steak was cooked well, however, I have purchased significantly better cuts of meat at Costco on sale. Very grissly, tough, and not even close to the 6oz promised. The green beans I had as a side were hardly cooked and totally unseasoned. The roasted potatoes were undercooked and plain. I paid $220 to leave hungry and totally unsatisfied. Would not recommend to anyone. Ive been twice and I will NEVER go again.

Mike Stamatakos

Amazing food and wine. The "made at your table" ceasar salad is a bit ott. But overall a good experience of fine dining.

Flora G

Cocktails were great. Service by Andrew was fantastic. The New York Neptune was a little disappointing as the steak was inconsistently cooked. The sides were perfect, just a shame the steak wasnt the star of the plate. Would not stop me from returning!

Stuart BURNS

Just had dinner here. The waiter Paco gave us very good advice for our meals. The lamb was fantastic. One of Winnipeg's top restaurants.

Brianne Whalen

The service and atmosphere are great but appetizers were inconsistent with amount the provided in the dishes and size of the product provided. They did remove the cost of the items from our bill but when you are a high standard place, and you can't get the size and quality product that doesn't meet your standards, then don't serve it at all...find another exciting and high end product! Our main course meals were delicious though so still a very enjoyable experience!

Miss Chrystalle

We have our anniversary dinner at Hy’s. Great experience, and food are incredible delicious. Such a great evening and thanks for the service team. If you park your car nearby, don’t forget to give the parking ticket to the reception when you’re leaving, they will take care of it for you. :)

Scott Bailey

Haven't been there in years and was looking forward to it . Steak was overcooked so I sent it back. Next one came out better but was still mediocre. Disappointed for the price you pay.

Great fresh raw oysters. Wonderful sides, great service, friendly sommelier. We shared a bone in rib steak, done perfectly. Great service. All around great place for a superb meal.

I grew up in Winnipeg and I spent most of my life hearing rumours about Hy's at Portage and Main. The restaurant was always known for 2 things: 1. Being tremendously expensive 2. Being worth it Being a frugal man, the first point was a major turn off, and I contented myself with more affordable steak options from the likes of The Keg, Rae and Jerry's, etc. My friends, it is with great regret to inform you that I was wrong to do that. If you love good food even a little bit, you really need to try Hy's. But fellow misers be warned, the restaurant exacts a terrible price: expect to lighten your wallet to the tune of at least $120 per person. I went to Hy's with a group of people that loves to share food, so I got to sample lots of different dishes: all were delicious. For starters, we had cheese bread and Caesar salad, and I tried the French Onion Soup. When the mains arrived, I also sampled the asparagus and carrot sides. These were good, but not very impressive. For a main, I had Beef Wellington cooked Medium. I have never had Beef Wellington before, I normally have prime rib at steakhouses. The Beef Wellington was amazing. I also sampled my wife's roast chicken, and I believe that I have never had such tender juicy, flavourful chicken in my slightly-more-than-25 years on this Earth. Luckily she couldn't finish her meal so we got leftovers for the next day :) I tried a couple of bites of Steak au Poivre, and found the seasoning to be overwhelming, but my steak-connoisseur tablemates said without qualification that it was the best steak they'd ever had. Do with that what you will. In closing, I will leave you with 3 points: 1. If you like good food, you should make the effort to go to Hy's at least once in your life. 2. If the opportunity arises to go with a group, do not turn it down. Particularly if the group likes to share! 3. Pretty much anything on that menu is delicious, you can't really go wrong.

Sloan Northage

The food was alright. The Le burger wasn't great. And we weren't informed of the $8 upgrade charge for our double baked potato in lieu of fries.

Vernelle U

The good... -Fresh Oysters -Black & Blue Ahi Tuna (Actually fantastic) -Filet Mignon The bad... -Steak Neptune (Steak was not tender (New York) and the crab was not crab.) -IPAD menu for the wine list (had no way to sort on types of wines, and just was too complicated to figure out what type of wine. They had wine sorted by region. Thanks it. We just asked out waiter.)

This place is top notch. Service is spectacular. But your going to pay for it. My steak was about perfect. Parking and getting there isn't the easiest thing to do.

Thank you to Jason our server and Ms. Hildebrand, the chef for an excellent Birthday supper! The fillet was cooked to medium rare perfection and the broccoli was over the top delicious. Cheers ????

Sykes 23823

Excellent service and it has been so long since I have been served a well prepared steak!

Susan Smith

Great food and very fine service. My wife and I celebrated my 65th birthday. The bill was just over 200$. Having ordered some steak sauce I received their 1ONLY SAUCE, 0.25 oz. With that came a charge of $1.24. WOW A memorable evening.

K Z

Love the food and the service! Both times were amazing!!! Way better than 529, 529 isn't worth a single cent you pay. The service is what makes it worth the money. I appreciated that they took care of my little sister's meal when they did not have the entree she ordered. I don't see myself going anywhere else for fine dining and plan to return once covid is over.

Richard Atangan

It was our first time here but great food, awesome service!

Clinton Kroeker

It is quite pricey but my steak and my wife's vegetarian meatloaf were excellent. Did curbside pickup and I was on my way in under 2 minutes.

Ozzy Spazz

Hy's is fantastic. A bit pricey, but if you want a nice evening out and don't mind paying a bit extra, then this is a great, intimate spot.

John Bog

Me and my wife got married there last year and the service was incredible. We reserved the Kennedy room which overlooks the lounge. It was a very small group maybe 10 people but really good. The total cost was around $1000 I believe. Hy's was kind enough to give us a couple gift cards equal to $250 which we used this year for our anniversary. They were so accommodating and friendly we recommend this place to anyone wanting a nice dinner out. Jason, I believe the general manager of the restaurant was great to deal with and has hooked us in as regulars to Hy's when ever we have the opportunity to go. Oh yeah, I forgot to even talk about the food. My Wife has tried the Gorgonzola and the Lamb and it was perfectly prepared. I on the other hand am less adventurous and stick to the stake and lobster which is always amazing. Thanks for a great evening, we look forward to going again.

I had high expectations from a friend's recommendation, but was severely disappointed. I made a reservation on for a Wednesday evening for 2 and once i arrived we were seated right beside the doors where all the staff goes in and out of the kitchen... in an empty restaurant with basically every other table available. Our first server seemed a little disinterested in approaching us but eventually came around to take our drink order. Afterwards though we were basically ignored for about 10 minutes waiting for him to take our food order. Another table had arrived right after us to which he was extremely attentive towards and basically doing his job waiting on them hand and foot. We were abandoned by him and he was replaced by another lady who was not really introduced to us and i guess was going to take over for him because he was too busy with this new table to care about us anymore. Things didn't get any better with our new server as it felt like the whole time they were only there to simply take our order and give us food. Now i know that's essentially what a restaurant is, I'd like to think a restaurant such as Hy's would do more than just take order, serve food. If I''m going to spend $200 on a meal I'd expect some certain level of a dining experience to go along with that. This was not the case here. I've had better serving experiences at Denny's than I have at Hy's. The food was good, especially the appetizers we ordered(the caesar salad was amazing) and the steaks we ordered were slightly better than what you would expect at The Keg. The main reason for my rating is that it felt like when we were there that we were a burden to the staff. The impression I got was, take order, give food, get out. I won't be returning.

Paul Croes

Great food, way too expensive. I can see charging more for a good steak, but $15 for a Caesar is robbery.

Phil Amero (The Amero Group)

Excelent. This cake below is the best chocolate cake ever -Belgian chocolate Bourbon cake-.

Rick West

I have eaten at high steakhouse For Over 54 Years and they still have the best steaks Around They're baked onion soup is the best Their service is always good

Went out for a ladies night dinner and had the most incredible experience. Our server, William was top notch. The wine recommendation was perfect for our meal selections. The GM Jason even came over to say hi and check on us. Highly recommend Hy`s if you are looking for a great experience and excellent meal.

Dylan Macchia

Always a great meal .... perfect porterhouse and salmon dinners ???? And the server was very professional ???? ???? ????

Faranak Miraghaee

I hadn't been to Hy's in some time and felt it had slipped a bit in attention to detail in a few areas including a medium rare steak arriving to the table as rare. Only one of the reasons that I could only give it a 4 star rating based on that. All in all, a nice restaurant just not 5 star in my opinion.

Wyatt Zacharias

We went with friends and I had steak and lobster. It was the best I have had in Winnipeg. Not the best in Canada but definately in Winnipeg. The decor was pleasant and the waiters are very classy, properly dressed and always attentive. The are absolutely professional servers. I was happy I went and plan to go back soon. Not to soon as it is a little pricey. But as the saying goes...You get what you pay for!

Mike Warner

My wife and I came for the happy hour specials. We shared cheese toast, mushroom crostini, meatballs, sliders and yorkshire pudding. My wife had a blue wave and I had 2 glasses of wine, both also discounted. We were there for just over 2 hrs and enjoyed the ambience and the couch with the window view. Our total was $75. Sydny our server was awesome as were the rest of the staff. A great place to celebrate our 34th anniversary. Our last visit was 36 yrs ago when they were on edmonton st? They obviously have kept a good thing going all these years!!

Andrea Braun

We visited here for my fiancée's birthday and we had an excellent time. The food was very good with both steaks cooked exactly as we requested them. We ordered the Caesar salad and of course, in Hy's fashion it is made in front of you. A bit of a novelty but it was a wonderfully delicious salad. It is a pricey place but I felt it was well worth it.

Kevin Doell

Excellent food and service! We will be returning, everything from the cocktails straight though to dessert was absolutely perfect.

Kevin Leung

Excellent food and service. The steak was done perfectly medium rare. Service was on the ball. Great place for dinner.

Julian Kim

Hy's was the absolute pinnacle of a premium dining experience. From valet parking to a thoroughly knowledgeable and personable server to fantastic food. The entire evening was a delight.

Keith Baxter

Celebrated our anniversary. Our server, Danny, was informative and incredibly helpful and funny! Food was great, atmosphere was better, service was divine. Thanks for a wonderful meal!

James McLean

Ok place. The setting is vintage, food is ok but the waiters jackets could be better fitted. They look like they are drowning in them, waiters should remind other people to keep noise levels down ie children watching TV on iPads is very distracting while trying to go out for a nice dinner.

Wim VanderZalm

Delicious appetizers, tantalizing main courses, great atmosphere and Outstanding service makes Hys the place to visit!

Ben Rogers

Aesthetic is 10/10 but they need to get in touch with seasoning????

Patrick Werestiuk

A complete fail....on every level...Went there last night to give it yet again, another chance as I used to be such a loyal customer...What an incredible disappointment. It used to have a quality location, great venue, great food and service. For the last 15-20 years they have continued to steadily go down hill. They are no longer what I would consider high end, though still pretend to be.... They didn't know my background or who I was last night and it was obvious in the way I was treated. It portrays itself as a higher end restaurant and lounge but failed miserably. Go to 529 or the Gates if you expect some quality in a small city. Food has been mediocre, service poor, atmosphere poor...I will give it five stars for location - but that's it.

Joel Sinkins

We went for an early dinner around 3:30 P.M. to celebrate. They were professional and we felt safe with all the protocols they do to keep everyone safe. They were also very accommodating for our request if wheelchair access would be needed. Their 20 ounce bone in steak was great with mashed potatoes! Very quick the process of ordering to our table. We suggest their creme brule be just a tad burnt on the top but overall the taste and texture of the dessert was good. Definitely recommend.

Jocelyne Mann

Excellent service. Food done just perfect. In our party of 6, the one person, who always has some critical/negative point to make, had nothing to say. Great evening.

MK

Hy's is always a first class experience. The staff are amazing. Your conversation is never interrupted yet if you need something they're right there. The food is outstanding. This is a steakhouse, go there for steak. The Steak au Poivre is my favorite, and the staff forgive my pronounciation. My wife prefers the Steak Neptune and shes always pleased with it. They're ok with various side substitutions. For dessert try the Bananas Fosters!

Don Natch

Wonderful atmosphere and amazing service. Love how they have a delicious vegan option so everyone can have a great experience

Melissa Smith

The best part of a birthday dinner for two was the quality of the hand towels in the washroom. The calimari was tasteless as was the pseudo crab that came with my bride's steak. My steak au poivre would have been good without the tough steak. Refused a replacement rather than watch her eat alone. Electronic wine list didn't work although the online reservation system did (although I won't be using it again). The place needs cleaning and the furniture reupholstering. Time for a redo. Tell your cleaners to pay attention to the floor/wall areas. Buy some new jackets for your waitstaff! Way overpriced for the food and decor and average service. I would rather have 10 meals for 2 at Qdoba for the price of two at what used to be a "fine dining " venue in Winnipeg.

Kamil Lark

Stopped by late night, about 10:30, for a night cap and snack. Great job Hy's! Everything was top notch.

Meghan Kwan

A must-go place for the steak. Also, the entree bread is very delicious (both the garlic bread and the cheese bread). Desserts are also highly recommended! Very good service with lots of attention to detail.

Geoffrey Bishop

We had a lovely lunch date. Delicious food, great service and superb ambience. A word of advise though. Ask questions about the lunch menu. We ordered the jumbo lobster leg priced 49:99. However the bill said we were charged $99.00. When we asked if an error had been made, we were told it’s $49.00 if it’s an add on. When asked where it said that, no one was able to show us. It was actually listed as a lunch item. That was rather tacky for such a high class place. We did have to pay $99 for it.

Trevor Schellenberg

Everything from reservation, to arrival, to service to food was just top notch. I’ve dined in a lot of high end restaurants in a lot of cities, and I gotta say this place tops the charts for what service is all about. We felt that the entire restaurant was working to ensure we had the best experience possible. Keep up the good work! Will most certainly return on my next trip to Winnipeg.

Angelica Kovacevic, CSCMP

Service was great! Steak was to perfection. Cost was overly extreme. 10 oz. Steak, 1 oz. of Dungeness crab, 3 sprigs of asparagus, mashed potatoes (not very tasty), and some fresh cut beans= $54.00. Ouch! The only reason they get 3 stars is the service, atmosphere, and drink selection (although also very overpriced). It will be a one and done restaurant for us. Sorry Hy's

Gilles Detillieux

Filet mignon was a proper medium rare, and the portions were decent, however, for the high price I expected more. Nice quiet atmosphere and very good service from the staff. Wine and beer selection was good, although no local options are available.

David Rojas

Amazing food and great service ! Our waiter was really sweet and knowledgable.

Terry Klippenstein

I had the Cobb salad and cheese toast. Both were outstanding.

First time to Hy's in Winnipeg. Laurence, you did not disappoint. You're service provided was exceptional. The only reason this is a 4 star rather than a 5 star is because of the restaurant placement of the silverware for the dining area. Laid out on the linen, not an actual traditional setup for restaurant silverware storage. Right behind my seat was where servers would attend to grab silverware for all the tables seated for the evening. On the window sill directly behind my seat. Where it may seem I am being overly particular, the caliber of this restaurant, and the investment you put forth for this dining experience would hopefully ensure the restaurant is mindful of the placement of the go to spot for servers to place the tools for the eve. This reservation was booked through OpenTable.ca. Orders were: Caesar salad, escargot, black and blue ahi tuna, cheese bread for starter. Entree's: 20oz rib steak with basmati, 20oz rib steak with mash potato, and my 17 year old enjoyed steak and lobster, fries, with sauteed crimini mushrooms on the side. Drinks were plentiful, refilled often, and refreshing. The food was delicious, and I don't regret the choice in dining for my family and I. Hy's is one of my most favorite steak houses, and I recommend a visit.

Monika Lawrence

Awesome downtown location. Very professional and knowledgeable staff. Chic decor, with subdued lighting. Restaurant spans on 2 floors. Awesome, awewome meat and wine selections.

Bruce Clark

The service is always top notch at Hy's. I love the fish, more than the steak each time I visit. The vegetables are delicious and varied each time as well.

My most recent meal at Hys will likely be my last. I was utterly unimpressed with both the service and the meal. It’s disappointing as I used to adore this restaurant. However, this is not the first subpar meal and service I’ve experienced recently at Hys. I love this restaurant. I grew up dining at Hy’s and I’m forever a lover of the restaurant. Although I do miss the old Hy’s on Kennedy with the viewing window. However, I’ve always had beyond excellent service. Management is so friendly and wonderful. They are always accommodating. The cheese toast is possibly the best thing you will ever eat and the steaks are always perfection.

Rye McGinn

service is always great but they could step up their ceasar game! Id love to see more "food in the ceasar"

liz cook

Extremely disappointing meal. I'm coming from Colorado and had heard from my parents that this was a good place to celebrate special occasions. The majority of us ordered steak and were disappointed.I ordered shrimp and found them to be very average. I also ordered the potatoes and then again it was cold and average. The creme brulee and cheesecake desserts were tasteless and old.there was nothing special about the quality of this meal. I eat out at restaurants often and found this meal could easily be from a chain type restaurant.

Steve Ens

Went for a late dinner, had a soup and the steak tartar. The mushroom soup was grainy, without fresh chives, bread, etc.. just a bowl of beige soup. For that price, dress it up a little. The tartar was severely lacking in seasoning. Didn't have any bite to it either, mustard mixed in with capers could have gone a long way. Lesson learned, stick with steaks I guess.

Jamie Haggett

Great food great service as usual. We had the seafood platter for 2 and it was fantastic.

sharon

We had a FANTASTIC TIME tonight with Benjamin as our server. Everything was perfect, atmosphere, service and food. Cheesy bread was delicious, French onion soup was superb, steak and lobster was delicious and the sou vide chicken was very …

Jess Davis

Delicious food! It was super busy but we felt that the staff were doing their best to keep up with the amount of full tables. The steak neptune is absolutely delicious and my husband really enjoyed his steak and crab. Their Long Island Iced Tea tasted perfect! The cheesy bread was so amazing! Best I've ever had. I highly recommend thw pistachio creme brûlée

Rick Green

My husband and I went here for the first time last night. From arrival until we left the experience exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious. Excellent wine selection. But the best part was the service. Our waitress had forgotten to bring out the appetizer we ordered when our entrees arrived. She apologized for this mistake and said that dessert was on her later. After enjoying our appetizer along with our meal (which was not a big deal to us at all) we then each had a dessert. And sure enough they were waived off our bill! A business with service like this is so rare to find. We will be back for sure!

giuseppi caligiuri

Today was our fourth time trying out Hy's in Winnipeg and each experience has been lacking. The first time our food came out cold and our server was great but it was mostly cold the second time around as well. The next 2 were okay but not as good as other Hy's locations we've been to over the years. Calgary was perfect every time consistently. So it is possible. Today our beef dips were tough to eat. The au jus tasted burnt and wasn't edible. The bread was too hard to eat without the au just. The meat inside was tasty. We had prepaid for the food when we ordered and were required to show the exact card and photo ID at pickup which I don't think I've ever encountered before. I definitely would go somewhere else if we're craving beef dips again.

Jon K

The service and staff were exceptional (Thank you Danny and everyone). The attention to our family was remarkable! The place was beautiful, clean, comfortable and the ambiance was delightful. Our food was amazing. One commented that they would have liked to have a little more vegetables on the plate. For a special evening this fit like a tee. Pricing for some may be high.

Steve Beich

Service is average. But the food is the worst!! Worst steak I have ever had. You are paying for the nice interior and service. I would not go here for the food. Baked Potato was good though even though is cost an extra 15 dollars.

Micheal Dier

Fantastic meal, fantastic service, fantastic atmosphere. It deserves every part of its fantastic reputation

Garrett K

Amazing food. Had taken my husband here for a birthday dinner awhile back. True quality.

We have loved Hy’s for years and visited again on Saturday. Once again, Hy’s did not let us down. Outstanding food. Outstanding service. We have always loved the ambiance and the attention that is paid to food and service. Winnipeg is fortunate to have had this fantastic establishment for so many years. Cannot wait to return.

This was my first experience here and I was alone so sat st the bar.The bartenders were great. Friendly and appreciated how the 3 of them worked together snd spoke to each other. I had the escargos for an appetizer and I wasn't impressed. The garlic butter was pastie and the escargot very small. For s meal the shrimp snd scallops which were good.

The lounge was amazing! Service was top level! Would 100% recommend to everyone! The food was so good!

Perfection on a plate! Plain and simply put! We were 4 family members that were sat in a wonderful quiet area overlooking the dining/bar area below. Our waiter, Vincent from France, was amazing! Very knowledgeable & helpful. Attentive & engaging. We were very pleased to have him! 2 of the 4 of us being French were enjoying asking about his home country. You have a "gem" of a server in Vincent! We've had business and family meals at Hy's and are ALWAYS impressed!

We had dined at Hy's earlier in the month and had a not so great experience... the manager, Carly, reached out to us promptly to get more information on our visit and took the time to listen as I voiced my concerns over the evening. She was incredibly apologetic for our evening and invited us to return where she would make sure everything was perfect the next time around. We took her up on the offer and returned to Hy's for dinner tonight, and I am happy to say we had a great evening with wonderful food and service! Our server Lawrence was great - 5 stars for him! He provided excellent service and great wine recommendations. We ordered the Cheese Toast and Seared Scallops to start - the passionfruit buerre blanc with the scallops was delicious. The only complant was that there were only 3 scallops in the dish, I wish there had been one or two more. For entrees, we had the Rack of Lamb and Steak Neptune. Both were cooked to our preferred doneness, were tender and tasted delicious! We added on a lobster tail (the biggest I've seen in Winnipeg) and the brussel sprouts and creamed spinach. The brussel sprouts are a must!! They are crispy and served with a parmesan garlic dip - if I wasn't full with everything we already had I may have needed another order! We ended dinner with the Salted Caramel Crème Brûlé which was amazing. Thank you so much to Carly for helping turn our last experience around to a wonderful evening tonight. We will absolutely be returning to Hy's in the future.

Cody Hunter

Thanks Benjamim for always being so kind and giving us personal opinions on different dishes and cocktails, we absolutely love going here for special dates!

Very good food, very good service. Wasn't quite as good as the Hy's we went to in Hawaii but still very good. Would still recommend if you're looking for a good meal, just keep in mind it's pricey.

Christian Mitchell

Hy’s was extraordinary on a Saturday night. We had an excellent table, the service was perfect and the food was delicious. It had been a couple of years since we last dined at Hy’s because our experience at that time didn’t meet our expectations. Hy’s has redeemed itself and we will dine here regularly again.

Abigail

Was terrible food, over priced and the staff followed me to the bathroom. Pure racial profiling

Had never been to Hy's before. No idea what to expect and went with an open mind. Want to say that, in no way, is this a bashing of the place, just a very honest opinion. I know that Covid has made it hard for restaurants, but when you brand your business as elite, you need to expect a certain amount and type of feedback. Mentioned when making a reservation it was for an anniversary, but all that ever happened was a quick "happy anniversary" from the hostess, which was appreciated but a bit underwhelming as she read it off her computer screen. I had always wondered what the hype was around Hy's, and I think I figured it out. I think it's a combination of the physical location, and the fact that when you go there, you can then tell people you know that you went there. We ordered the escargot, which was very average. We ordered a Caesar salad, which we ended up eating with our escargot forks, since no one brought any other cutlery. After about 45 minutes, our waters were finally refilled, which then happened probably every 15 minutes after, which was nice because it was very hot out. One thing that was annoying was the waiter, who was as nice as a waiter should be, kept saying "Madame" at the end of each question to my wife, as if trying to be fancy but unfortunately it came off cheesy and fake. The beef wellington ($60) was fine, but nothing special. The sauce the beef wellington came with was probably the highlight of the dish. The rib eye ($60) was average as well. The baked potato that came in with it was super dry and even with butter and sour cream it was still very dry and hard to swallow. We ordered the carrots ($20) as well, which were fine but average. At the end of the day, if you do not factor in price, the food was extremely average at best, but in no way was it bad by any means. Once you factor in price, it falls to way below expectations. Really, the only reason to go there is to feed one's ego and embrace the illusion of fine dining. In the end, for the price, portion size was questionable and everything was just very average. Would I go back? No. Would I go back if I had a million dollars in the bank? Possibly, but I would still think the same of the food and service. "Price is what you pay, and value is what you get." With Hy's, there is a huge gap between the two, unfortunately.

Dave Lowery

Wonderful food, staff and atmosphere. Its fine dinning so it's on the pricier side but its worth every dollar. The Filet Gorgonzola, fresh oysters and cheese bread are a few dishes I'd recommend. I also recommend a reservation if you are dining in the restaurant. If you're just going for drinks in the cocktail bar, no need for a reservation.

John Patrick Abrenica

Best meal I've ever had in my life. Had the Chateaubriand and it was out of this world. Our server Paul was amazing and made the best spinach salad I've ever had right infront of us at the table. Had our steak cut infront of us as well. Excellent.

Sandra Finch

Excellent service- they rearranged the chair set up so we could all have the big comfy armchairs! It was a slow night, but I appreciate that they took the time to accommodate us!

C Ali

We went here for dinner to celebrate my moms birthday. My mom has been eating at Hy's for several years! Her favourite place in the city to go for steak! We had steak, mashed potatoes, onion rings, cremini mushrooms, cheese toast, tuna and caesar salad. All of it was cooked to perfection. Andrew our server was extremely attentive with a great sense of humor. The ambience was very nice! The only thing I can say that could use a little updating were the chairs. You sink down to far into some of them!

Divjeet Batoo

The food is spot on but priced a little higher than it deserves to be. We've had issues with service on more than one visit and have no interest in returning. Last waiter was amused that my wife was allergic to blue crab!

K Brindsor

I had a lot of expectations of this place before stepping through the front door. I went because someone told me they make a top notch steak. They do make a wonderful steak and lobster too. Additionally the look of the place was very classical and an experience that is not easy to find in Winnipeg. Unfortunately the experience fell short of the price tag of $180.00 for 2 people. I was expecting to be wowed but it never came. Let me provide you with a simple example. I asked the waiter what kind of wine would you suggest with the meal , only to get the reply "they are all good". I further asked what would you choose and got a similar reply. I think the waiter missed the point. I'm sure they are all good but I'm not a wine condersuer and have heard that the right wine would have amplified the flavor of the food. I ended up getting the house red wine which turned out to be a good choice. I will never know if it was the best choice. I'd like to visit your restaurant in another decade to see if they offer anything special, but it felt very lackluster for the price.

Food was amazing! Service always excellent

Jerry Kolbuck

My first 5 stars in Winnipeg. Hy's was incredible. . Zero complaints. Everything was perfect. Happy with our server, the food and everything else. 5 stars.

My husband and I came to attend my manager’s christmas party dinner last January 13, we arrived at exactly 5:45 P.M I was excited because I heard a lot of good things about the restaurant, but I was really disappointed because from the moment we walk inside the restaurant the 2 hostesses are just looking without smiling or even greeting us. So, I ask for our reservation and she plainly answered in return. Before going to our reserved banquet room, I decided to use the washroom. When I entered the female washroom I directly smelled the strong bad odor I opened the first cubicle and the toilet bowl was not flushed, then I opened the 2nd cubicle but still the toilet bowl was not flushed and there are a lot of used toilet paper on it. And at last, I opened the 3rd cubicle and it was decent enough to use. After using the washroom we head back to the banquet room and I told one of the server’s about the situation of the female washroom near that banquet room. The food was great but the total experience was not.

Alvira Loewen

Great service, entire staff is extremely nice. Great location and atmosphere 9/10 on those. Food was ok. Steak wasnt anything to go home about. 3/5 on that at tops.

Edward Parsotam

Excellent service, delicious steak

Ben White

Celebrated my birthday at Hys. Words cannot Express how much my boyfriend and myself enjoyed our dinner. We treated ourselves to the Chateaubriand for two and it was the best dinner and experience weve ever had. Thank you.

Ryan Punak

Waiters attentive and engaging while offering professional opinions (eg on drinks) and service. Excellent food; quiet and sophisticated atmosphere.

Great food and atmosphere. Was very impressed with drink pairing recommendation for my dessert.

Amazing service and delicious steaks cooked to perfection definitely worth checking out for free quality steaks

This was my first time at eating at the steakhouse! I really like the interior of the restaurant! Which I didn’t really see anyone else really comment about! I’m a huge fan of the red and black even though most people won’t agree with that style.. First off the service was phenomenal! Very friendly staff which were definitely on the ball. I had the French onion soup as an appetizer and it was the best French onion soup that I have ever had hands down! we ordered a bottle of wine from a wide array of wines to choose from. The server was able To suggest a bottle that would pair good with our main course which I appreciated. I had the peppercorn steak which was amazing and cooked to perfection! Then we finished off with the in house dessert which was tasty as well! The location of the restaurant is perfect for anyone working downtown or just in the downtown area and is craving an amazing meal! I mean you can’t get much more central then portage and main! The only thing that I would like to say that isn’t going to be super positive would be the price point. I do realize that your paying more for the location/atmosphere/quality/experience and over all prestige of the restaurant, but $120 for a steak is defiantly on the pricey side... I have said this before and I will say it again but you do usually get what you pay for in this world, I think there is room to lower the pricing of some items on the menu slightly to cater to a larger audience. Just my opinion.... Besides the price everything else was absolutely phenomenal and I will definitely be back! If you haven’t been it’s definitely worth a try just be prepared to spend a couple Hundred bucks! Great place for a date night or a wedding anniversary! You will not be disappointed with the over all experience

jeff arychuk

Waitresses jacket was four times too big for her and her sleeves were rolled up. Next to the table there was a mouse control device plugged in. Usually they come by with a pepper grinder and offer your pepper and today they did not. Misplaced our reservation The bathroom had an unpleasant odour. Dropped food on table without so much as a here you go sir Tiles falling off in the elevator. Food was okay. This once highly-regarded Steakhouse has slid downhill. ps The last time we were there we found a kitchen glove in the Caesar salad.

Jordan Bacuno

Great service from Andrew, our waiter. Food was flavourful and tasty. My steak was slightly overdone and they replaced quickly. Very impressed.

Will P

Steak was delicious, but wouldn't try the calamari again. Jason and the team made our evening out wonderful. Thanks.

Alan Gozda

I think now this will be my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg! All was delicious!!!

She-Ra

The first time we went here, this review would be zero stars, but it is nice to see it has changed, the bar is not slow anymore and the waiters bring very good service. This is one of the best steak houses in Winnipeg, even for picky eaters, our waiter listened well and when we got our food, it was done exactly how we requested for! I see reviews about the prices....please this is a steakhouse, since when does one go to any steakhouse and complain about the prices? The only thing that I personally did not like was that on the night we attended, they ran out of cheesecake. If I had that cheesecake, this would probably be a 5 star rating. But i cannot control that, it was just a surprise to hear that at the end of the meal. I hear it's a good cheesecake. For the dining experience, it is what one expects from the other Hy's steakhouses in Canada.

Allan Baryski

Andrew was an excellent server. Food was amazing. Tenderloin, tender and flavourful. New York strip also. Vegetable medley was al dente, perfect. Cheesecake and apple crumble were scrumptious.

Gurpreet Singh

Classy, elegant atmosphere. Excellent steaks and attentive staff. Have a look through the extensive wine list!

Brian Blocker

It was an absolute delectable meal and quite honestly fantastic service!

Lizzie Rose

I love this place. I love the food and the atmosphere. My favorite are the tower of onion rings. A must try if you go. They have areas for parties of 10 or more and I had my 40th Birthday there with my closet friends. I would give it more stars if I could

Gwen Smith

Top notch service. My Black Angus Bone in Ribeye was perfectly seasoned. The price is high but I feel its worth it.

Faye Lambert

High end restaurant but the food is very tasty and customer service is the best.

Justin Poulsen

Just ok but the quality of the food has not improved in line with the price. That being said the service has always been and continues to be excellent.

shawn Mollons

Service, food and ambiance was phenomenal! What an experience! Our server Laurence paid great attention to detail and was very funny and professional. Can't wait to go back!

Amanda Loe

Classic top notch Winnipeg eating experience. Yes, pricey; but every once in a while you need to have your Caesar Salad expertly made in front of you. Excellent wine list.

Rutzz

This is hands down the best steakhouse in Winnipeg. The executive chef, kitchen staff, and front of house staff always make this an enjoyable experience. I had a filet mignon that I could cut with my fork. The wine selection is exceptional and if you can save room for dessert. I had the creme brule and it was a delight! Of course table side Caesar salad and cheese toast never disappoint. Every time I am in Winnipeg I always make a stop here because the food and service are impeccable.

XIAOJIE ZHANG

Great dining experience. When we arrived, the front staff were welcoming and friendly, and offered to take our coats. We were then escorted to our seats upstairs, where we were greeted by our waiter, Glenn. Glenn was very pleasant and …

Mat Berube

Excellent lunch choices. Had the curry rice - it was good. Friend had beef stroganoff - absolutely excellent choice.

Lynne Frechette

Luxurious decoration and gentlemanlike server. Foods and drinks fit my stomach very good. Nice place for evens or daily dinner

dl k

The decor and service were very classy and much enjoyed! I've been for two lunches with my wife, and in our experiences the food simply isn't worth the price. Basic flavour elements were missing in three out of the four dishes we tried, leaving me feeling that the chef forgot to add something. Perhaps we missed out on the particularly tasty parts of the menu.

Breanne Beauregard

Was very disappointed with the food. Steaks were ordered medium rare and came rare, rack of lamb was over cooked and smothered in a mustard sauce and caesar salad was so so. Should be better for the price you pay. Would have been 1 Star except the service was great.

Carmen Puente

Fabulous meal tonight at Hy's. Exceptional service. Great COVID protocols in place. Excellent food from appies to steak to dessert. Still better than other high-end places.

Scott Nicola

The staff is very friendly and attentive. All instructions were followed on how we like our meals. I’ve heard a few friends complaint about the wait times but I went their during the busiest hours and didn’t have to wait at all. Will recommend visiting here. The location is accessible through Winnipeg square as well.

Evan Hera

I love this place because they served me the kind of steak no restaurant would dare serve: extra extra rare and covered in blood. Cattle blood is an important nutrient because it will allow me to live to 150 and transfer my spirit to a young human host once I pass on. So, it’s crucial I live off that cattle blood energy, and there’s plenty of that to be found in a Hy’s steak.

Matt Toews

Always a phenomenal experience. Food is cooked to perfection. The lamb is outstanding

Kevin MacKinnon

Delicious classic steak house with a very traditional decor. Plenty of small rooms for private parties, as well as a nice lounge for a slightly less formal experience.

Ryan Trapp

Always a pleasure! Steak is always a sure choice! Seafood here is quite decent as well! Hy’s has sure stepped it up since the days over by Eaton’s!

Andrew Harris

Never disappoints. Top notch service, great cuts of tender and juicy meats. Caesar salad is best in city hands down.

Wanted to try a nice steak house for me and the wife so we figured why not go all out and try Hy’s. Well not the place is dirty or anything, but you don’t get good value for food there. I had a Dijon lamb and they put a little bit of an extreme amount on, tasted like the mustard truck crashed into it. The wife had a steak and she asked for it medium rare and if they could do Chicago like the keg and two server said “of course”. So after getting the food her steak was just done plainly and not as asked. I understand that they may not do that but please don’t guarantee that it can be done and don’t hold up to it. The real reason why we weren’t satisfied with the visit is that for all the money you spend, you don’t get any value. Food came no veggies , only fries, potato or mashed. And not even complementary bread which for that price you should be. So from our experience , we’ll be going to the keg and not back to hy’s as the keg actually puts veggies on the plate and gives you free bread for quite a bit cheaper.

Michael

The food is AMAZING. The crab cakes were absolutely divine. However what made this a perfect score has got to be the service. Our server, Kaitlyn, was hilarious, easy going and yet somehow also professional. Highly recommend.

Shay Funk

We had the best time here at Hy’s Winnipeg. Their cheese toast? I don’t know what they put in it but it is to die for. The beef wellington was a bit smaller than I expected however the taste and quality absolutely made up for it. We also had their banana foster. Yummy. I wish I didn’t share it with my husband. Lol.

Scot Harvey

Beautiful ambience, amazing service, polite staff... And very nice food. But the sad thing is this place don't provide halal meat... Otherwise it's best

Matthew Newcombe

Lunch was very good! Service good.

Angus Morin

The service was friendly didn't feel intimating . However... I was surprised to find the food boring, flat, plain. I don't usually make unkind comments and what do I know I'm not a successful restaurant owner, but it was not note worthy and if someone asked me I would say keep your money and or sell your gifted gift card. I order the steak and lobster with a baked potato. Well.. there was absolutely no flavor. I imagined this beautiful garnished plate with a complimentary sauce to my steak and a garlic butter for my lobster. But it was none of that it was a chared steak topped with lobster and flavorless butter sided with you average plain baked potato you make at home all the time. This was very disappointing because I have been looking forward to this dinner for 5 year after winning these gift cards. This was my husbands and mine first time having a date/ evening out in that 5 year time after having two babies. Sorry hy's it just didn't do it for me:-(:-(:-(

Stephen Brown

Easily the best steak house in Winnipeg. The service is always impeccable and the decor is subdued dark and slightly different than most I've been to. Steak Neptune is worth having..

Jeff Koroluk

Never disappoints in food or service. If you bring your own bottle of wine, a $50 corkage fee applies which is a bit much mind you.

Ace Zen Espinosa

Great service and atmosphere. Their ketel one cocktail is a nice and smooth drink to have with food. Their steak sandwich and steak salad is also very nice. Definitely preferred over their steak plates.

Brittany Demers

Food quality is great, it is a little rushing for services. it is understandable, and i need to choose a slower pace place/time.

David Jones

service top notch, Andrew was our server, and I think a better service is hard to get. Food wise, bad. I ordered the beef wellington, and it was way undercooked, raw dough, and the meet is particly still alive. It should have been medium rare, but I got blue, which is less than rare. And the side dish was just an insult to injury, two small pieces of bakes potatoes and some peas. And all of that for $60. Never again.

Todd Gobeil

We had a wonderful experience at Hy's. We received fantastic service from our server, who gave us a tour of the menu and made helpful suggestions when we weren't sure what to order. The portions were large enough to give us a few meals leftover. It was fun to watch neighbouring tables receive tableside service for salad or flambéed steak. The atmosphere was cozy and romantic, and it made for a wonderful date night.

Barret Davies

The place is elegant, great environment, the food is delicious, a little expensive, but definitely worth it. Total care of the details... We love it.

Kevin Jeeves

Who ever they Chefs are , they are unbelievable , service top notch. Really made my day better after a bitter stay at the Fairmont. Amazing service when greeted and departing.

Zach Samborski

Hys has supplanted 529 as Winnipeg's top steakhouse for me. My last few visits have provided flawless food and service, whether dinning with large groups or small. Plus they have the best clams in the city.
