Bill the bartender is incredible both as a bartender and as a human. The food is pretty good too. Drink specials could be a little cheaper. Great venue for live entertainment.
Great people, cold drinks, amazing fish n' chips. Live music featuring the best Newfoundland has to offer. Covid measures are in place. Go have a time!
This joint is Best kind. Great for a pint and a show. Though prices can be a bit steep at times.
What a nice little pub! Met with some friends here and we stayed for hours, ordered delicious food and drinks, and had a wonderful time! The fish was fresh, we saw one of the staff enter with fish ready to be cooked which was an extra treat. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. Excellent!!
Iconic St.John's pub. Best place in town for live music and now has amazing and creative food options -- especially the weekend brunch.
Tasty menu that changes fairly often for an afternoon / evening meal. Really nice atmosphere that feels like you're in the keel of a ship. Great spot to check out for live music too!
Great vibe and decent drink prices, loved seeing a show here because it's not cramped inside
Cool little hole in the wall pub. Small but Good Room for live entertainment. Needs more old ship artifacts on the walls! Besides that, I recommend this place.
Great food and fantastic service. Really relaxing ambience. Tasty pints too!
Excellent fish and chips. The server was friendly and the food came out quickly. I would recommend this as a place to stop for lunch while downtown. I would imagine it would be a fun place to go see some live music, especially when COVID-19 restrictions have relaxed some more. Will be returning!
I don't go here often but I usually have a good time when I'm there. One of the bartenders (sorry bro I don't know your name) is awesome. He was looking out to me all night last time I was there: I was off at a table and whenever my water …
Awesome venue for great local bands, drinks are a bit expensive and the people working the door often seem contrary though
Great fish and chips, love this place!
Underrated lunch spot! Fries are deadly.
Very ordinary which is part of the charm. We went mid-day for a drink and to avoid the rain. Would love to come back and experience live music.
Solid no-frills bar, especially for live music on weekends. Good selection of beers on tap.
Drinks can be a expensive and the venue isn't very comfortable. They book great shows here though
What a great hole-in-the-wall pub. Old school bar you feel like you could be in an Irish bar. Amanda, the bartender, was easy to talk to and had great advice about what to do in the city. I would/will return when I can! Definitely check this place out if you want a beer and good atmosphere.
These guys Are awesome! The best fish n chips we’ve had in nfld!
Great hole in the wall pub
The musical talent I've seen here a number of times is great however I always feel like I'm walking into a stranger's living room and I wasn't invited.
A great little hidden gem of a place. Don't let it's location fool you; there's a lovely, friendly and fun local pub just off the main walk. The staff were friendly and the locals were great to chat and hang out with. Events here are also great such as the recent Folk Night, which was an absolute pleasure to be at. Highly recommended!
This pub has the best atmosphere! And the food is amazing!
Best venue in St. John's. Amazing sound, quality staff.
Feels like home when you walk in. Perhaps too much. Nevertheless the greatest part of the Ship is their pleasant decor and live music. Went for the Jazz ensemble and it was a great time. Staff are very friendly.
I ordered a Bud Light and everyone stared at me like Id cursed their mother. Still though, good music and cool atmosphere aside from the beer snobbery
Nice staff. Good live music and friendly people.
Gourmet pub grub at its finest and the best small stage to see big names in the folk scene.
This place is an institution of the local music scene. Great pint selection, with specials on Black Horse and Jockey, a quality kitchen, and the friendliest bartenders around.
A favourite place for a meal, with vegetarian options. Great place to see a variety of shows. Easygoing and friendly atmosphere. My favourite bar in the city.
The food is really good beer is good foot long hot dog is the best i have ever had
Cool bar a little run down but I like that sorta thing. Make sure to check out the folk night!
An institution as iconic as any in St. John's, one of the best places for live music and great food. Amy's specials are some of the best food in the city.
Great food and even better local music. Best Fish & Chips in town!
Nice pub, decent beer selection, good live acoustics. I hear the food is good but haven't tried yet
Excellent food. Standard pub menu with really creative and delicious weekly specials
Amazing and intimate music venue. Great place for a pint and lunch.
On a Sunday night in August, the bar was very quiet. Few patrons, but an enthusiastic jam session was in motion. Celtic instruments abound, including a mandolin, Irish bouzouki, button accordion, guitar and violin. Gifted musicians enjoying themselves and providing incidental enjoyment to the small crowd
Great pub. Great staff. Great food. Great music
We went to an open mic night and it was a lot of fun. Loads of talent in St. John's. Good service, good drinks.
Awesome grub. Great beer. Friendly folks all around. And live music!
Great bartender service, good selections for drinks. Very intimate for music acts...check out Wednesday Folk nights.
Awesome place. Great food. Brilliant service. Go here asap. Oh and get fish and chips
Great atmosphere, and wonderful food. The wait staff are very friendly, too.
Fun experience eating in a dark pub where the locals gather. The food was pub grub .... but hey... we were in a pub!
Excellent staff, excellent atmosphere, less than excellent prices on pints (tip: black horse is cheaper). The brunch menu is my favourite in the city.
If you're looking for the consumate "local place" this is it. This place has fantastic food and great local music.
Good spot
Awesome music and, honest to God, the best food I've had in weeks! Ask for the handmade gnocchi if they're still serving it ????
Lamb shepherd's pie was amazing. Big portion size and delicious!
Excellent fish and chips plus a good value. Great beer selection. Staff are friendly as can be!
The Ship is good because when you ask, everyone knows where the bathroom is to.
The food was a pub grub culinary delight. They must have a chemist working in the kitchen. I actually had to close my eyes and just let the tastes wash over me.
Amazing food and excellent selection of local brews. Live music most nights too!!
Best lunch menu in St. John's, coming from a local. Do not let the atmosphere fool you!
Great location. Very friendly staff. Good selection of beer. Drop in for happy hour.
Best beer batered cod. If you're from away you have to tries fries, dressing and gravy. Atmosphere is great too.
Best pub I visited in area, I was like family upon entering, great convo with boys working the bar, very attentive service, huge portion and great quality. Don't miss this hole in the wall.
Great little spot! We ended up here on a whim as our first choice was closed. The server was really good. She noticed our food was taking a bit long and came over and told us about a delay and offered to take care of our drinks. We had a breakfast burger special. It was really good but a few too many elements to it in my opinion. Worth checking out for brunch and then returning for some live music in the evening!
I've frequented the Ship for decades. And recently the kitchen has gotten even better. Just had a delicious "pub-grub" lunch there with a perfect pint! Friendly, efficient service. Excellent!
Best food in town!
Best kept secret in the city for food. The food is insanely good, and well priced. Great beer choice, albeit expensive. The shows are usaully a blast here as well.
Great place to hear music and enjoy the tunes. The staff are amazing and atmosphere is very friendly.
We went for Wednesday Folk Night ($5 cover per person) as we were intrigued after reading about it online. It was a really cool way to get immersed into the culture and hear some of the local music.
Surprisingly eclectic menu for a pub. Quality of food prep and presentation much better than would be expected. Try one of the specials, they're always interesting. Friendly staff, great service.
The food at The Ship is top-notch, and so is the service. One of my favourite places in the City.
Came on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty quiet, we got our food right away. Great price, good beer selection, big portions. Chico the bartender and server was friendly and helpful. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the French toast. Would recommend both!
Favorite little pub in the city! Great music, service and food!
The ship pub used to be a nice place. Now I will avoid even passing over there. The ship pub allowed the singer Matthew Hornell to verbally abuse young international people, probably students. The situation was that the singer was drinking …
Food is reasonably priced the service was outstanding had our food in less than five mintues and was absolutely delicious , I highly recommend there Burger it's amazing
Great spot, heart of downtown
Saw the MUN Jazz band, was great live music. Awesome atmosphere
Ok vibe, good beers on tap. After sitting with our beers and racking up a bar tab a live band starting preparing and a waitress came around to retroactively collect cover. Live band didn't play until an hour afterwards. There are much better places nearby for a night out.
Great vibe for a place to have a great drink and a conversation. Lots of taps, pool table, and solid service.
Great food, friendly staff. Live music most nights.
Amazing staff, great hangout , lots of friendly people , The ship pub has made our vacation complete in St Johns . Thank you Bill and Lindsey Alvin And Liezel
Chico was the best bartender. Great place!!!
Rude staff. There are better places in downtown with better live music and a friendly atmosphere.
The Ship Pub, a popular local watering hole. The pub is a popular music venue with a dedicated group of regulars and a laid-back, mellowed atmosphere. in the daytime, the place transforms into a similarly chilled out eatery where people flock for local meals, especially Poutine and fish and chips.
First time eating here was last Friday..I thought the food was excellent, very generous portions. The 2 servers working that evening were super efficient and friendly. Definately going back soon..
Friendly smiling bartender Amanda. Cold bottle beers. Nice quite small bar. Been here about 100 times in the past still looks the same as 25 years ago. Great small venue to watch some local talent play their hearts out on selected evenings.
Folk Night is delightful.
First place we went to after a very long drive, loved the place. Will definitely go there again
We stopped in to Have there fish and chips as recommended. We were NOT disappointed. Great staff and pored a gate pint of Guiness
their fish and chips is really tasty, would recommend! never had nar drink to give me for take out though so i was parched afterward
Friendly people and great French toast
Best fish and chips in town. Good local music.
Great food. Good prices. Good service. Comfy. Do recommend.
Great music venue, interesting rotating menu, and gluten-free fryer!
The singer got drunk and was super rude, the guy verbally abuse a group of young people using his microphone. He point out that they were talking. While everyone was talking. It is a bar not a concert hall. The managers did nothing to stop …
