We have all the reviews of real people who are using the services and products of Christian's Bar (Night Club) around St. John’s territory (Canada).
At the present the firm has a score of 4.5 out of 5 and that rating was based on 127 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average of ratings is basically the best one, and it's based on a high number of opinions, so we may say that the valuation is very faithful. If there are many people who bothered to leave their review when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to set scores when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Night Club is classified in the category of Bar.
So you wanna get screeched in, well pucker up and enjoy becoming a Newfy. Not exactly cheap to be a Newf, but a really good time, you get to enjoy eclectic charm as you are carefully led into history, song, and Ofcourse drinking. Good for both visitors from everywhere and even the locals.
Got screeched in here. It was as a group and it took some of the personal touches away especially when you have drunks trying to practically crawl on you during the ceremony. The ceremony master deserves 5 stars though. ... what a performance!
Amazing experience! Took a couple of my friends there to get screeched it. Made me proud to be a Newfoundlander
This is the famous bar to get screeched in It was so much fun!!! I would do it all over again..woohoo
We encountered an extremely rude bar tender who used profanities when we had a complaint. Said he didn't give a #$%@ and that we could get the #$%@ out. He also said complaining wouldn't help cause the owner would say the same thing and he was dating/married to owner's daughter.
Great place to get screeched in. They make a really big production of it, you eat bologna and kiss a real cod fish (frozen, but still). I had a lot of fun getting screeched upstairs. It's also a decent place to have a pint and hang out downstairs too. Would likely come back here on my next trip to NL.
Was recommended to visit Christian's for the Screech In ceremony, we did and had a blast. The atmosphere was perfect for a small pub and conversation was easy flowing as the place got busier during the night. Highly recommended location for some local beers and to become an honorable Newfoundlander.
We were told by a local bartender the night before that the only place to get screeched in "right" was here so we booked it. Amazing. He remembered ALL 40 OF OUR NAMES..HAVING ONLY HEARD THEM ONCE AND SEEING OUR FACES BRIEFLY. Unreal!! Super fun time.
You can get screeched in here, and there will always be some drink special and usually a crowd. But it is a tight and narrow space which can make for too crowded of a feeling. No cover fee, big screen TV, jukebox upstairs.
This is where you get screeched in. One of the coolest experiences you will have.i definitely urge you to visit this place if you are visiting st John's Newfoundland. It's on George street.
The entire family n mi are now Screeched In Newfoundlanders. The best show and a history lesson too. I sat in the chair of Anthony Bourdain n kissed his cod fish. Thank you chef Luke. Aye b'y.
In the year we've lived in St. John's, every local told us that Christian's was THE place for a Screech In and Captain Lukey did not disappoint. We've seen a few other ceremonies, but none hold a candle to the experience that's been crafted for the Christian's Screech In. It was rich in the Newfoundland traditions you can't pick up by on the walking tour. If you're from away, this should be your first stop. If you're local and haven't experienced it for yourself, get on it, B'y.
What an experience! Amazing atmosphere, fantastic taps selection, and the screeching in ceremony was hilarious, informative, and meaningful/poignant at times too. skipper/chef Likely tries to make a personal connection with his new honourary Newfoundlanders and does a fantastic job of it. If you come to the Rock, this is the only place to kiss the cod in my opinion!
Great, friendly bartenders. Tuesday screech-in ceremony to be a honorary Newfoundlander.
Drinks are quite expensive for the average pub & on weekends there’s no space to even move properly (not suitable with respect to emergency fire evacuation), & bartender Marshall is disrespectful.
It's Christians. Good spot but gets some muggy after midnight
The BEST screeched in experience. Go see chef lukey! You won’t regret it.
Laura was our bartender and she was so awesome!! Great atmosphere. Large selection of local brews from Quidi Vidi on tap. Clean bar and free popcorn on all of the tables!! Just an awesome experience. Loved it.
George t in St Johns this is where you get screeched in. It was fun and met great people.
Best pub in town. If you want to be Screeched In, this is the place to go. Absolute legend.
Locals told us the Christian's Bar is the place to do the famous "Screech In" and they didn't disappoint. Christian Bar is the perfect place to experience the Screech. The bar has 2 floors, we did our Screech upstairs. Ate the Bologne, kiss the fish, said some magic words, drank the Screech (rum), took a photo and got a certificate. It's a nice, small pub, super cozy, play good music, patrons are friendly. Bartenders are nice. I luv the fresh pint of Iceberg and other Quidi Vidi beer here. They even play hip-hop music, drake's songs, I luv it! If you want to do the Screech, you got to go to the Christian's Bar. And if you don't need to do it, drinking here and chill is cool as well.
Christian's provides a fantastic screech-in experience for those who "come from away." The place was packed and we had lots of fun.
Havin a time! The best screech in ceremony imaginable. Kiss the cod, drink the screech and learn about Newfoundland in a funny and interesting ceremony. Long may your big jib draw!
If you’re looking to get Screeched in, this is where it’s at! Chef Lukie will blow you away with his Screech in ceremony! This is also where Anthony Bourdain was Screeched in, and a toast to him was a great way to honour him and a perfect way to complete my Screeching in ceremony. The drinks are flowing and treats are tasty. I will always remember the fantastic experience being Screeched in at Christian’s Bar.
If you are looking to get "Screeched In" look no further. For starters, my wife did her homework and found overwhelming reviews of this place and it's ceremony. We opted to enjoy our honey moon in Newfoundland and made sure this was one of our stops. We were not disappointed! The Screech ceremony was AWESOME! It was so well put on, entertaining, informative, funny and a blast. I was going to upload some video from the ceremony, but have opted not to, because I want the magic to be there for you to enjoy first hand. All I can say is come here! We observed some other screech ceremonies, but they all seemed hokey in comparison. This is the place to be! Thanks so much for helping make our Honeymoon awesome!
An amazing experience!! Our host was great, made us feel so included in the Newfoundland experience - this is our first night here, we've been screeched and we are ready for the Rock!
The bar is a bit of a dive, but the kind of purposeful dive that is fun to hit on a Friday or Saturday night. Has several physical issues that resulted in some gross leaks last time I was there. Do a great screech in though.
Very bad attitude. I was booked to get screetched in and arrived around 11pm for an 11h15pm booking. Inwas turned around very impolitely. I went to o'Reilly's instead. They were very happy to quickly organize the ceremony for us. Should you want to get screetched in, O'Reilly's is the place to go!
While researching options for a low key, casual, yet fun way to celebrate my husband's birthday during our visit to St John's in early July, I came across the idea of a "screeching in" ceremony. Based on the reviews I read, Christian's bar seemed to be the best place, and it did not disappoint! The bar is quaint, charming, and chef Lukey creates a great atmosphere. The ceremony was a lot of fun: the music, the bologna steak cooked "a la chef Lukey", the tales, the screech, the jokes, and of course, kissing the cod. It was a unique, unforgettable experience, highly recommended for anyone looking to become an honorary Newfoundlander!
Great pub with friendly staff! Got screeched here and enjoyed every minute of it! I'll be back for sure next time I'm in town.
Oh my gosh, we love this place. Chef Luky was so nice, he remembered everyone's name. Amazing! We all got screeched in.
Got Screeched In and it was the best way to celebrate my birthday. They made it such a special experience! I got a little teary-eyed. ???? Skipper Lukie really made each participant feel important. He remembers names, too!
The best and only place to be "Screeched In". Trust me you won't be disappointed. It's the one and only place to go for the ceremony! Enjoy your "Newfoundland Steak"!
Christian's is the oldest bar on George Street and I have been going there since 2002. The owner is an amazing human and is an absolute ambassador of Newfoundland. The Screech In Ceremony is fantastic and I recommend it to any one who has come from away. The staff at Christian's have always been top shelf and you will be well taken care of there. Christian's and the Martini Bar are by far the two best bars in Newfoundland. Definitely try one of the specialty coffees there. They are also amazing. Cheers!
If you are looking for good conversation with interesting people you will find it at Christian's. They do an awesome Screech-in for tourists so new faces are always part of the crowd.
Brian, who owns this bar, hosted me and my girlfriend for the evening and a Screeching in. The ceremony was done incredibly well: music, lights, and the best humour. It’s got a great pub vibe (no food so come fed to enjoy the beers!) great drinks and generally a good place to hangout. Highly recommend it. Especially the screeching in!
Such a quint little bar with so much personality did our screeching in there and what a performance! Definitely a must if you are in St John!
A fine place with a wonderful selection of spirits and draught beer. Highly recommend this place!
Took a family member here to get screeched in! He had a great time and really enjoyed the festivities. They also have HARP on tap, which is a rarity in Atlantic Canada!!!
Deadly service top quality night marshals the man! Comfortable setting and good laughs.
We did our Screech In here! Absolutely awesome. Lukey was really funny...great stories! Would recommend this place for a real Newfoundland experience!
If you go anywhere near st John's you MUST go here. Get screeched in and become an honourary Newfoundlander. The owner is amazing! Six stars if I could! Aye bye!
This is THE place to get screeched in! Informative and very entertaining, done by the owner himself. Absolutely loved it and highly recommend it ????????????????????????
First off excuse my username. This is a separate email address that I had to make in order for me to be able to write a review..plus Im a huge fan of Tim Allen. I don't judge anyone, and I don't go into places to cause trouble. I also if indeed given a warning of some sort will stop doing anything..but again I don't have any criminal record/ and I never got banned or got in trouble in all of my life. And, before I write my review I would like to say that I have huge health issues. I have real bad anxiety, and real bad depression which sometimes in a way takes over me, or causes me to be down or feel bit distracted...weither its over thinking or not fully being myself when I talk to someone. I am also seeing a DR for this/ and someone ( councillor ill say to help me deal with this) at Aspen and Oaks). But I really have to write this and considering this is a review section, I am stating a review and "Freedom of Speech" is perfectly legal when you are giving a review and being free expressing your opinion on a place/business,or location. So here I go. I went into Christians Bar on George Street one day. I was not causing any trouble in any way shape and form. I went in to sit down...as I had a nice first experience when I first went in and went upstairs to the other bar which I believe is a screech in bar section and a bar. And how do I know it was a nice bar? The bartender I was talking to..she was a lady, was very nice and very sweet. * Also there were free chips in the basket lol* . But I went in sat down and talked to her. She asked me where I was from..etc. Again..i wasn't causing any trouble. And I have to point out.. I don't do drugs, drink or do anything. Plus ill mention I had a impression that was a separate bar that was only upstairs and she was the owner of it as she said " we're just newly opened up here". Anyway.. I left after a few and again.. there was no trouble caused, and just left. Anyway.. I go back and I sit down at Christian's. I just sit down... I don't bother anyone.. The bartender ( I'm guessing he is the owner) - Asked me if I wanted anything to drink or something like that. I said no thank you . I just wanted somewhere to sit down for a few minutes as I don't personally go to many places and I like to be around people..so that would wrap that part up. My depression/anxiety was reallll bad that day and it was a struggle for me to in a be myself fully. So, when I never sounded " normal, or looked normal " I was kind of down and kind of myself. Like I said..I don't DO drugs...and I never will do drugs. The main point is.. I wasn't causing any trouble either or doing anything which I don't think was wrong. But...he made a comment and said something I believe like.. you don't look alright or something, and then after told me.. " there is the door". I am not judging anyone, but in a sense... I kind of never agreed with what happened. Im not upset.... however, in a way I guess im real curious on why I got kicked out of a bar when with me personally. I wasn't doing anything wrong at all. I guess another reason im writing this is.. because I don't go in " his bar " anymore as to me it wouldn't be worth it... So im not holding any grudges and im not upset. Tonight, I went upstairs as I was walking on George Street , and I decided to go to the bar upstairs and sit down and relax..as I know if the owner was in Christians bar, I wouldn't want to take a risk to go in ill say " his bar ". I went in.. and well enough, with not seeing him in there or expecting to see him as I didn't think he owned the bar.. He comes over... Im sat down. He comes over and tells me to get out of his bar. This is a review section, and im writing this not to make a complaint, but for curiosity and a " free mind to express" a review on what I think. Im just wondering.. why did I get kicked out? My review is just.. I found it in a way disrespectful/judgemental and, unprofessional.
We had a great time here. They've got the touchtunes jukebox so you can download the app and pick songs right from your table. Not really a dance place, but people danced anyway and everyone loved it.
Beers wet, not bad
Did not try the food but we did get screeched in. Great atmosphere and Aunt Luce did an incredible job. There were lots of laughs and learned about Newfounlanders. Worth the $20! Highly recommend to anyone looking to get screeched in!
Went there for my Screeching In... great traditional bar that gets over run with out-of-towners several times a week. I am glad that I went early to soak in the charm before it became a mass of bodies!
Well the BEST place to become an Newfoundlander. Googled a few locations but this was the best for very good reason. The service was great. The owner and officiant to swearing you in knew his stuff...and made it one of the best experiences you can have in St John's. From the newfie steak to course the Screech,my son will remember this for a loooong time. Awesomeness
Small bar with great service Night i went for my screech ceramony was VERY QUIET only 7 of us Better on a busy night Lad does a good job but just not enough people At $20.00 per person a little pricey good but
Got a few friends screeched in here a few weeks back, and they put on quite a show. Great laugh! Price was fair and you definitely get your money's worth. Be sure to book beforehand, as it can fill up fast, especially on the weekends
I came here to get screeched in, since everyone told me Christian's is the place. It's a smaller pub, great vibe! Screeching in happens upstairs, and is always very well attended. Definitely an experience worth having, and this is the place to do it
The best bar you’ll ever go to,
Best screech in available. Locals and visitors loved the experience. Chef Lukey remembered everyone's name. A big crowd, but a personal experience. Reasonable price too.
So amazing! The screech ceremony was so well done and they made every person feel great. Eh b'y!
Fun, friendly little pub. Went there to get Screeched In. Great experience. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting St John’s from away.
We came for the screech ceremony. My wife really wasn't sure she was going to kiss the cod or drink the screech (wine drinker). I wasn't sure what the ceremony would be like but it's our first time in Newfoundland so I knew we were going to. We both had a great time, the owner does the ceremony himself, and he's brilliant. Still don't know how he managed to remember the 30 plus people's names who came to get "screeched in". A great time was had by all, we recommend it highly.
Plenty of exceptional reviews prompted us to get “screeched in” here last night. It is an absolute “must” when in St. John’s. We will cherish our “Honourary Newfoundlander” status certificates.
Nice classic feeling while sitting in Christian's Bar, watching football, drinking local beers and having fun. Very polite barkeeper. Will go here again.
We really enjoyed our Screeching-In Ceremony! Highly recommend it :)
We went to Christian's for a screeching and the animator was great. It was a bit pricy though. Despite this we had a great time. Note: a drunk regular customer at this bar we have heard swear at people entering, and yelling at them to leave. Some people who written reviews about Christian's have confused this man as an employee, but he is not.
Unfortunately my phone died as we sat down at the bar. But what an experience!! We didn’t mean to get Screeched In, but that’s what ended up happening! Sat at the bar, immediately struck up conversation with people around us, had some local beers, and was passed a list to sign in. Next thing you know, we are eating Newfoundland steak, repeating phrases, kissing cod and swilling shots. I have added 5 new Facebook friends and am planning a trip to Nova Scotia to visit our new friends! Unmatched experience. Highly recommend.
If you plan to get schreeched in and become an honorary Newfoundlander, this is the place to do it! Well worth your $20.00 for the event they put on.
Very unprofessional. Looks like they are stuck in the narrow minded past. I was there when one recent incident happened and I was disgusted by the Doorman's behavior. At least 10 people where prest there trying to convince him and requesting him to let her in and he totally refused . Including making homophobic statements. Very disappointed to see this type of sentiment.
What a great time! Absolutely a fond memory I will never forget! Thank you!
Amaaaaazing! I had so much fun getting screeched in! I also loved the atmosphere of the place and how friendly everyone was. Definitely check this place out.
Stopped in to see what Christian's was about. The friendliest bar I've enjoyed in a long time. After a few minutes conversation with "Captain Lukey" it was like we were old friends. Getting Screeched in here was a great deal of fun and educational with the Captain providing obviously heart felt history and instruction. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Great place to get Screeched-in. Owner is a wonderful character.
Absolutely the best place in St. John's to get someone screeched in. Buddy really gets into it. Best to book during busy times. Otherwise, a nice quiet pub.
taking advantage of drunk customers and then kicking them out.
Very warm pub and host! Loved the local beer here!
Very cozy Irish bar. Got screeched out there and the staff was amazing. Even during the pandemic, they kept it light and entertaining. Strongly suggested.
Got screeched in and became an honourary Newfoundlander! It was a blast. Couldn't have had a better time!
Owner was extremely kind & genuine. Surroundings were clean, staff was friendly. Although I am not sure about the nightlife of this location - The lighting & mood for the evening in this place is perfect for anyone lookin to feel at home, relaxed and to enjoy a few drinks.
Great experience! The screech in was so much fun. As a participant you can tell that they ove what they do and perform the ceremony with maximum fun for everyone. Make sure you book in advance or come early so you're not disappointed.
We had the best time here the bar man told wonderful stories about the bar and local history. His screeching in ceremony was the best
Get screeched in! This happens daily at 1700 and 2300 (5 pm and 11pm for you non sailor types!) Such a fun time and the staff were unbelievable!!!
Staff ..great ..friendly atmosphere.lots off verietie at the bar .music fun and mixed crowd.they do the "Skreech"thing .lol
This is THE PLACE to get screeched in in St. John's! The ceremony is quick, but memorable and a reasonable price. I won't give away too many details but the fella who does it is amazing. I'd definitely recommend getting a reservation ahead of time because it is popular. The pub itself has a good selection of beer, including local beer. My only complaint about the place is that the ATM charges a percentage of the amount of cash you are taking out. Just be careful if you are attempting to take out some cash after a few pints!
Fantastic place. Great ceremony. A must if your just visiting George St.
Lived in st. johns from ages 3-7.Went to visit Christians last Christmas and had a blast.I am now 70 years old and plan on calling them this Christmas Eve.Great place!!! We now live in Lexington Kentucky.
Truly fun experience! If you are going to get Screeched Christian's bar ceremony is the only way to go! Honorary Newfoundlander!
Awesome place to get screeched in!!
Great place for Screech-ins. Chef Lukey remembers everyone's names!
You won't have a better experience than this place! They genuinely care about the history and the facts that make it an absolute "must do" item!
Just got back from visiting beautiful Newfoundland. So many highlights including the stunning scenery, friendly people, amazing food and getting screeched in at Christian’s Bar by Brian. Thanks so much!
If you would like to have the best experience being “screeched in” with a twist, then this place is a must. Christians bar is also know for screeching in the celebrity chef Anthony Bordain and iron chef Lynn Crawford. I never had the opportunity to try any food, but I’m assuming it’s as good as the above and beyond, comfortable, friendly service. The owner makes you feel completely welcome and isn’t short of jokes. The atmosphere is a perfect “hole in the wall style pub” that everyone should try to experience while on the popular George Street, in St.John’s NL.
Small bar on George Street with friendly bar staff and a great atmosphere
Lively place. It was packed solid when we got screeched in just after 11pm on a friday night. The man leading the screeching was enthusiastic, friendly and funny. It was fun for all ages and even our pup Max had a great time. There was a moody girl sitting right at the bar who was too cool for school and kept rolling her eyes every time the owners asked her to shush during the screeching ceremony. She didn’t seem to care we had all payed for the event and it was a first for all of us so we wanted to listen to everything the guy was saying. Its ok, I remember my first beer! Thanks for the great time to everyone at Christians!
Fantastic time getting "Screeched in", a must do while "on the Rock". Thanks to everyone at Christian's Bar !!
This used to be a great place to have a chat and tie one on. Now it's like a rave with booming music and you can't even hear yourself think. Good place if you're into that kind of scene.
This is by far the best screeching in experience that you can get in St. John’s! The ceremony, music, shot glass, certificate etc. are all well thought out and worth every penny! Cannot recommend enough.
It's all about the screeching. Originally had my doubts about paying $20 for the screeching in ceremony just expecting it to be a little bit of talking leading into the "screeching festivities" that quickly be over and done with. After partaking, I can easily say I would have paid even more. The staff here put on a great show that is incredibly entertaining for both participants and spectators and I would recommend going even just to watch others get screeched in. The ceremony is scheduled so you can plan exactly when to show up and pre-book your spot if you want to participate. The ceremony was a very unique experience and one that is definitely worth checking out if traveling through St. John's. Long may your big jib draw!
Fast and friendly service. Loved how they had chips on all the tables. Did not have any food but enjoyed the place. The prices for beer were pretty expensive as it was about 8 bucks and got a half pint (maybe 8-10 ounces) of beer.
My Vacation Was ruined!!!!!! I went here thinking this was one of the best Bars in St. Johns but.......... the service was slow, the staff has an attitude and all the drinks were dry and outdated
Went to get screeched in we were 4 adults and 4 teens, ceremony was awesome Captain Lukee was awesome! Yes Buy!
Lots of fun. Awesome drinks. Friendly staff
Today at 7pm I was screeched in and what a fantastic time, thank you Brian, you made this experience complete my NewFoundland trip, fantastic! What a great time and “May your good jib draw, me ole cock!”
Definitely the place to go for a personal and honest Screeching in Ceremony. We had an opportunity to pass by at a quiet time (I’m not sure how often this happens) and were able to speak with him one on one. What a nice and interesting fella! He told us the story of meeting Tony (Anthony Bourdain) and how it all came to be, how he started in the service industry and much more. Thanks Skipper Luc!
The fake breast batender is so disrespectful and rude and racist I went to the bar with friends who was already drinking I wanted to experience what I'd was like there and she didn't want to serve me and when she did it was half done I ordered a Corona and lime she gave me the Corona no lime when I ask for lime she said with ATTITUDE "DONT U SEE AM BUSY " I say u i just paid u for my drink and how i cant get a lime she SAID " I DON'T WANT TO SERVE YOU "
