Historical and beautiful ❤️ The Richardsonian Romanesque building was built in 1895, replacing the first permanent town hall built in 1874, to house Orillia City Council and the local jail. The original structure was designed by Toronto architecture firm Gordon & Helliwell and completed in 1895. A fire in 1915 destroyed much of the building and was rebuilt (with plans from Burke, Horwood and White) less the south tower when it re-opened in 1917 A new front entrance was completed in 1958. Orillia City Council vacated in 1997 and Orillia Opera became the sole tenant in the building.

Make sure to book a play at the Orillia Opera House! It's a beautiful historic building. Accommodates about 100 patrons. It is licenced before and during intermission. Has wheelchair access too. Best thing? Is the fun you'll have enjoying the performance!! Excellent actors.

Architecturally pleasing historic building. However, the seats in the main auditorium are incredibly uncomfortable if you are sitting for more than two hours. If you are on the tall or heftier side, brace yourself.

We attended the Art of Dining play on Feb 20th evening performance, We were very surprised of the vulgar language used and often. We viewed our program from start to finish looking for some kind of warning but indeed nothing of the sort. Had we read some kind of warning we would not have attended this play. We also were mortified to hear one of the actors describe how her mother tried to commit suicide by sticking her head in a hot oven. In this day and age this was not ACCEPTABLE talk. I wonder what the Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention would think of such a horrible comedy act so to speak, Wake up and be aware that suicide is happening daily in our very own neighborhood. We were ashamed to attend such a dreadful play and actually spent money to watch this..

So my daughter had her dance recital today. First of all the opera house charges to hold your baby in your lap. Secondly they ran out of tickets and wouldn’t let my family members sit in the lounge/bar to watch the performance and purchase beverages. This is the most ridiculous outfit I’ve ever been too! If I could give this place a negative rating I would.

Wow! Deceiving! I was so excited to see the inside of this beautiful opera house but what a disappointment. Little did I know I had paid good money to see a play in the tiniest theater I have ever been in. Apparently there is more than one section to this theater and I had no idea. We were in the 5th row, good seats, right? We were in the back row. The theater is 5 rows deep. And we had to sit on fold away chairs not comfy theater seating. The play hasn't even begun and the 5 of us are already planning on leaving the first chance we get. We drove an hour and 45 minutes to sit in a crammed room instead of admiring the amazing architecture of this 160 year old opera house. Not sure how you would know what theater you are in but I would be making sure to call and ask before spending the time and money to come here. So upset...
