While the atmosphere is good and drinks are reasonably priced the sound quality of the PA and the people mixing the shows leave a lot to be desired. Being one of the last remaining music bars in Halifax one would think they would try and make it as good as they can. The last several shows I've been to the sound mix was atrocious, you want to hear just drums and vocals then this is the spot to be, there was no guitars or bass in the mix and the sound guy was just sitting in the booth on his phone. Then between bands the recoded music starts and it's incredibly distorted and sounds like the speakers are blown. I know I'm being picky but I'm a music lover and trained sound engineer so this really bugs me, having a good mix for the crowd and bands is essential to me.

A good Halifax venue. Decent drink choices, friendly staff and security, no gender-neutral washrooms though. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes partying but needs something to do on the weekend. If you hear about a big event at the Marquee, go there instead.

Never been to a worse and poorly maintained place. The place smelt like urine and the front door didn't even work. I had to walk around the back and climb over rubble in order to get to the back entrance. I was greeted (no that makes it seem too nice) by two horribly rude individuals. You couldn't pay me to walk back in there. The food seemed like it had been sitting out over night and thrown into the microwave. Stay away, trust me, unless you are asking for an early trip to the doc for a checkup

Cheap drinks (horsepower is made next door at Propeller @3.50/pint), staff are pretty friendly, especially the tall & slim server with long blond hair -very receptive I've only had fries from the kitchen and they're okay.

I love this bar, it's so underrated in terms of service and staff. The place has a unique feel to other bars and best of all the security doesn't get aggressive with people when they're drunk. If you've never been, go on 90's night or one of the many other monthly events and I'm sure you'll be impressed.

Nice establishment, but hyperdefensive bouncers. Claiming another province's photo ID isn't valid in Nova Scotia, and 'letting me off the hook this time' by not confiscating my government issued private property before letting me inside to spend my money is a good way to lose my business.

Wandered in here to do homework when the cafés closed. All the staff were unusually friendly from bartenders to doorman. The place is super spacious so you don't feel you're bumping up against everyone. Cheap pints, friendly environment, a room full of plants, and turns out they have live music most nights a week. Always down to support venues that contribute live music so in other words this place is the best...

Best live music venue in town only rivaled by the marquee upstairs. Cheap drinks with a good selection of great local craft beers. The layout works perfectly for a music venue and they always have good artists both local and from away. A little divey looking but in a good way.

I love this place. I loved it when it was on Argyle St and I think I like it more now that it's under the Marquee. Always high quality musical entertainment in the offing. The Seahorse has a vibe all its own - it's just one of those venues. The bar staff were really nice and were quick to sling drinks, and I was also really impressed by the tall dude doing security checking IDs and stuff. I think they're subcontracted (shadow security?) but he was INCREDIBLY polite and professional.

DO NOT GO! We spent our fee on EMO NIGHT got 3 drinks and was escorted out within a half hour. Employees were rude barely any people there and we had to leave due to "CAPACITY" what a waste of money. Never returning again.

Fantastic little spot 2 blocks away from the Scotia Bank Center. I was lucky enough to catch two tribute bands on a Saturday night and it was one of the best nights out in a while. The acoustics were great and the sound engineer was on top of things the whole night. The beer was cold and reasonably priced. Service was fast and busers were busy all night. The bathroom was clean as well. Cover was only $10 and the two bands were worth way more. Well worth the walk and price of admission.

Went to the new years retro night, and had a blast. The coat check line was insane, had we checked our coats we would have missed the countdown! The whole experience other then the coat check issue was pretty fun. I was a little scared after reading some of the other reviewers, but I didn't find iany of those negative things I read to be true but I did spend the entire time on the dance floor!

Watched the Taggart and Torrens Bahds and Suds Tour there and had a great time! Intimate atmosphere that feels a lot bigger than it is. Great sound quality and good sightlines. Will definitely be attending more events there in the future. Good work!

We might have caught them on an off night, but the music was this weird dubstep bass stuff. Bouncers were power tripping hard while the manager just leaned against the wall chewing gum and laughing at people who weren't being let in. Bar staff was great but still 1 star from me. Probably will never go back.

Stopped in for a beer and a burger during the day. It was quiet and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and competent. My beer was great, and the burger was good but seemed small to me. I was hungry after my meal. Well priced though, I recommend it.

This was one of the sleaziest and dirtiest bars I've ever seen. The security guard was flirting with the hostess and the two were extremely rude when admitting me. The light was so bad I couldn't make out a face 5 feet in front of me. The glassware was dirty and they gave me a glass of beer they poured earlier by mistake. I don't know if they have cooks or just microwave operators because the food was atrocious and not the least bit fresh. Will never come back.

The seahorse tavern ripped me off. They stole money from me. I went there celebrating emo night on the 27th of April with some friends and I bought one drink there for $8.00 with a service charge of $3.00 which was $11.00 total. I discovered the day after I was charged for something completely different aside from the $11.00 I paid and was charged $17.50. I emailed the seahorse and the man who I spoke with said there was nothing they could do about it and I asked them to check the cameras and he said they didn’t have any. So the manager emailed me and was very rude and did not care about the situation. I asked him several time to give me my money back and all he responded with was that it’s busy and he’s going back to work. This place will scam you. Please don’t allow the bartenders to take your debit cards. Better yet just don’t go there. The same night I saw a dead beatle in my friends drink and there was piss all over the bathroom floor. They honestly should not be in business. Stay.away.

The part we went to was the basement. There were several live bands. The music was enjoyable. The beer selection is a little poor, the beer prices are reasonable, and the waitresses were prompt and friendly. The ladies at the coat check were very friendly. I had a great evening and would not hesitate to go back again.

The Halloween party was really good at the seahourse. Lots of creepy decorations. Lots of people with cool and creative costumes. Really good music with two different options, one being a decent live band. Price was good compared to other clubs. Would recommend.
