I'm sorry to report my disappointment. I've always enjoyed the old Lion's Head and was looking forward to the new one. Getting our drinks and then food orders were quite slow and it took over 30 minutes for the food to finally arrive. It was tasty and the server was polite but it will be awhile before I go back. There are too many good options in the area.

The new Lions Head is beautiful, all of the beer is cold, and I was really happy to see vegetarian options included on the menu. But the decor lacks character, and the new menu items miss the mark both on value and taste. It's been a few months, and either my friends and I have had most of the food offerings, and it's all just not enough of what it should be. If it's meant to be flavourful, it's not. Spicy? It isn't. Toasted? Nope. The nachos have been changed since opening for the better, I assume due to customer feedback, and I hope the owners are looking at the rest of the menu

I love the honey BBQ sauce that went on the wings. I have never had a sauce like that it's my new fav. I am planning a family trip there. Our service was good but it was a slow night too. Next time it'll be on wing night though (Tuesday) when it's .30¢ a wing.

It will be a whole new place next year but it's not the greatest. The 7UP tastes rancid, it's not the first time as it put me off last time. The food is average, if you have wings the sauces are medium and burn your mouth off, no in between. There is no kids menu so if you are a family it can be very expensive.

Went with a group of friends after Run for the Cure today. Great pub food, lovely server and fairly quick service considering the number of us there. Had a spinach salad and sweet potato fries. They were crispy and had a bit if cinnamon sprinkled on which added a nice flavour.

Came in for supper with friends for a long overdue get together. First of all, there was no available parking spot beside the tavern so we had to park across the street as even the sidestreet were all taken. The place was packed when we got in, luckily we had a reservation. They seem to have everything under control. We ordered appetizers and drinks. Appetizers were good and tasted fresh, calamari was served hot. Our server might have been new as some of our questions were left unanswered. She was very attentive and friendly though so that makes up for that. When the main meals came out, none of them were up to par. The pan seared haddock that my friend ordered was dry and overcooked. The Mediterranean meals that we all looked forward to were either very salty or tough and chewy. We were disappointed. We thought about ordering desserts just to see if it will take a bit of a turn, it did luckily! We didn't say anything to our server because we saw that she was trying her best and it's not her fault at all. We even left her good tip because we know what it's like working in the industry. Meanwhile some of us left the tavern still feeling hungry. I would go back for the ambiance and maybe for drinks only, not food. Who knows, maybe someone will read this review and they can improve their recipe or something. But until then I'll have to pay for the parking ticket I got for $115. What a memorable experience! Would never forget for sure lol

Food good, Service excellent, Beer NOT good ~ their draft beer is "warm".! We had Michelob Ultra Light on tap, Rockport draft and another(can't recall name). they were ALL 'not' cold. In Jan/Feb that might not be an issue but in late June when it's +25°C outside it is an issue. 3 beers & 2 hamburgers + tip for $60 is a little on the high side but good.

I've been coming here since joining the military in '91 and I'm retired now and still coming. Great spot for a drink and a quick bite. The deck is nice in summer. Very popular with the military crowd. Heard rumours that it's closing down due to new construction. Hope that's not true. Would be sad to see it go.

My first time in the new location, and I think that they kept the sense of the old place but with a lot more light and height. The fish and chips was wonderful--perfectly cooked and hot on arrival. I was impressed with the portion size.

The new building has a lot of space, and is nice and clean and modern. I suppose it lost a little of the character of the old place but it’s still a great place to hang out. I’ve only tried the club house and it was very good; someone else had the steak and it looked great. The menu is more diverse and includes more than pub food. They also have a good selection of beers. Will definitely return.

Always a good time, with your standard A-B beers on tap and what I would consider your average pub fare. Recently you've had to register your vehicle license plate to avoid parking tickets which is rather annoying. I can understand this during the daytime as the area is starting to becoming much more dense and people are desperate for parking spots close by, but it's a little absurd in the evenings.

My local hangout. Big space so you can always find a table for two or for six! Go-to meals are the Diablo Burger and the Liver and Onions. Spinach salad is fresh and made with real bacon. Always pair your wings with a plate of fries on wing night. Karaoke has huge song selection and you can get in two or three songs no problem.

Staff friendly! The new place looks great! Trivia night was going on when we were there. Trivia was very popular. We went upstairs on the elevator and were not bothered at all by the trivia on the main floor. Fish looked great, but the taste did not quite match. GREATin-house coleslaw and tartar sauce! Gravy was pretty good, but $2 for a very small amount.

New and improved! This was the first time coming here since they opened in their new building and I must say, it is a great spot! I was here for supper and drinks with friends and we were seated quickly, even though it was in the supper rush hours. Had no complaints of the service, friendly greeters and servers. They also made good recommendations. To drink, I ordered the negroni and it had great a taste for what’s considered a simple cocktail. As for our meals, due to it being Halifax Burger week, we all got the burger, Peter Pretzel Pickled Pepper Eater (now say that three times). This burger was topped with a stuffed jalapeño pepper wrapped in bacon (that alone was delicious) but the burger itself packed so much taste and flavours, It’s too bad it’s not a regular menu item! Additionally, picture listed on the burger week site was spot on to the one we received. Glad we chose this spot and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a laid back, restaurant/pub feel.

A pub that has been around for many years and it's fairly well known to Halifax locals. The inside is reminiscent of an Old English pub with all kinds of interesting portraits including navel and other sea memorabilia. The service is good and the food is a little better than typical pub fare and they have included quite a menu of poutine with every different kind of meat or vegetable that you can think of. And the wings are fantastic as well. A great choice for an evening of social drinking and munching on tasty food. A friendly atmosphere filled with interesting things to see.

The Lion's Head is a straight up bar. No frills, the food is OK, and the service quality depends on who you get. But at the same time, it's like - how picky do I need to be? I'm there because it's a bar. Nothing fancy or flashy, you can get domestic + import beers (maybe even a local brew) and some pub food. It's not a gastropub, it's not a microbrew pub, it's just a solid neighbourhood bar that I've always had a good time at.

Went there after the new renovations. Beautiful spot but if your going for food I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Staff weren't the greatest but we're friendly I suppose and did their job. The food selection is very limited basically they only have burgers and salads or steaks. Not a whole lot to choose from. I ordered the Hawaiian burger and the burger was definitely not a hand made patty it was more like a frozen steak patty and they put a piece of ham on top which wasn't to bad. Overall for 2 beer 2 meals it was $60 and was it worth it ? No I wouldn't go again

I always enjoy my visits to the lions head. On Wednesday nights a collection of fiddlers sit and play their instruments together; it really brings a nice feel as you sip on their wide assortment of beers and enjoy some pub food. It's moderate in price and the service has always been quick and friendly whenever we go. Definitely give it a whirl if you're in the area.

The new building is quite nice and spacious. Server was very nice but I was very disappointed with my food. The chicken shawarma bowl was very bland, tasted like boiled chicken. I am assuming that what was in the bowl was meant to be hummus, however it was very runny and had no taste. I was starving and was barely able to eat half of my dinner. Tried some of the wings that a friend was having and they were not very good either. There was too much sauce and it tasted like it came out of a can. There were 9 of us there and nobody really enjoyed their food unfortunately. I would go back and give it another shot but wouldn’t go for dinner…maybe drinks and a few appetizers.

Nachos we not layered with items. It was just all on top, plain nacho chips underneath, but a nice amount of sour cream and salsa was given :) but Expensive for what you recieved an how they were presented. Fried pepperoni was a tad costly for the portion you recieved and overcooked, looked more like a child size, not a shareable as stated. The place is really nice to look at and clean, quite beautiful for gathering with friends. Fast at delivering drinks and food. I'll be back to give it another try!

"it is what it is" describes this place to a T. Decent service, frozen deep fried food, good selection of beers on tap. The music bingo event last night was so loud my table couldn't speak to each other, and as such our server couldn't really do her job. Food was inconsistent and it was clear nobody really cared. I sent back a flat beer and I could see the bartender criticizing me from across the restaurant. Nothing too insane that would stop me from going back for another few beers with some friends but I likely wouldn't eat there again and if given the option of take the opportunity to try somewhere new.

Really like their chicken wings night on Tuesdays 5$/lbs. I really like suicide and sweet thai chili sauce. It can get busy and a bit noisy. I also had their poutine which i did not really enjoy, fries being too thick and sauce a bit bland to my taste.

What a unique and varied Lebanese style menu it is! A great mix of shawarma, kebabs, and hummus dips, alongside the more conventional pub fare. We loved how much choice there is, including some excellent vegetarian options. Something for everyone! The food was FANTASTIC! So so tasty, fresh, and fast. Addictive stuff! Our bar server Dee was awesome. Two bits of feedback for the chef / Lebanese owners: 1) the pita with the meals was boring: cold, dry, etc. You can do better with the pita 2) the shawarma bowl was delicious but lacked any vibrant colour: adding a green or red veg would make it look more appetizing. But overall, a fantastic experience and we WILL be back!

Brunch review: absolutely 5 stars !! Lions head has long been a staple of Halifax’s north end, and now fully re-imagined and re created with its stellar new location!! A complete game changer compared to the old dated location of before, the new one is modern, clean and welcoming. Far superior to the likes of mic mac tavern or or similar concepts in the HRM. Brunch menu while limited, is amazing. Beats out Coras any day!! Definitely will return. Great value as well.

Went to their old location many times and today was my first time in their new fancy building. Don’t really remember how much the beer was in the old location, but it was a little pricey for tap beer in the new location. This time I got Tuna poke bowl and my bf got honey chicken burger. I love mine, tuna was fresh and very tasty!! but the bowl was just too tiny ???? my bf said his burger tasted like Sriracha lol love their fries! Definitely will come back sometimes, can’t wait to try different food there.

Generally an okay place overall. It's close to the hydrostone, which is nice. Food ia pretty good without being over the top or expensive. My biggest complaint is service. For some reason, every time I've gone, there has been one or two servers for a massive area. They always look like they are rushing, and it always takes a lot of time to get anything because of it.

I realize that you have to charge more, to pay for your fancy building, that you chose to build. I have been in the food industry business over 35 years. When you charge $18 for nachos try to put some nachos on the square plate that you serve it.. if you want examples go to Jack astor's or east side Mario's. And see what you get for that price , and $13 for 9 wings!!! How do you expect to get customers coming back??? Good luck...

I'd give here a 3.5. I've been to the new location twice for weekday lunches. There is a large dirt parking lot out back, which is great, and needed (since there is very limited street parking in the area that time of day). The pub itself is huge inside and out. Two stories with a rooftop patio (of which I have yet to be on) so capacity even during covid times is high. Both visits we were lucky to get a table without waiting, but others behind us had to wait, so try to get there before noon if you can. Standard bar atmosphere with wooden tables, booths run the length of the window, fair amount of natural light pouring in, large bar, some modern decor. Friendly staff. The menu is pretty broad and would appease to most people. I really liked their Veggie Power Bowl (13.95 arugula and mixed greens topped with roasted brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, quinoa, maple glazed tempeh, toasted almonds with balsamic dressing) - it's a good sized portion and I was very full for lunch. Lots of flavor, especially in the tempeh (which I find can often be odd tasting or tough at many restaurants). My friend was kind of disappointed that their wings are battered, but he didn't have any trouble finishing off a plate of mild anyway (13.95) with carrots, celery & ranch dressing. The prior visit I had their Turkey Dinner Poutine (14.95 fries, cheese curds, turkey gravy, roasted turkey breast, cranberry sauce & garlic croutons). It was also very filing, and not bad in general. I predict that I'll be back here again soon as my work isn't too far away, and spring/summer on the roof sounds very tempting.

It was my first visit to the new lion's head tavern. Sadly I never made it to the old establishment. Not a bad burger for the restaurant's namesake although the patty could have been a little bigger and the beer could have been a little colder but the staff are very nice and it is a very welcoming and relaxing environment. There is a lot of spacing between the floor seating I believe this is due to the pandemic. Highly recommend the seafood chowder. I really enjoyed it, the base/broth is rich and creamy and buttery. Looking forward to my second visit.

The Lion's Head is the kind of neighbourhood pub that is rapidly disappearing. While the food is good, if not anything remarkable, and the beer selection is more geared towards macro-brews than local products, the environment and atmosphere are phenomenal. Between extra-friendly staff and a simple, old-school pub feeling this is the kind of place that makes it easy to unwind any night of the week.

Visited the new building recently for trivia night and had an awesome experience. The new building is very well designed, clean, and modern. The staff was friendly, and fast. The drinks were on point and the food was good. Wasn't a fan of the Bruschetta but I feel that was more of a personal issue rather than a kitchen issue. An iconic pub in Halifax, I would recommend the Lion's Head to anyone!

I have been here a few times for trivia night, which is really fun. The nachos are very good. Staff are really friendly and attentive. The only thing I don't like is how loud it is. Sounds seem amplified by the huge space, and you practically have to yell to be heard across your own table, even when the place isn't very busy. I don't remember music playing, so it's not that -- just the ambient noise. I find it unpleasant and exhausting to deal with and it makes me not want to stick around. I can't imagine it's healthy for the staff.

If your beer selection changes, either put a note in the menu, or have your beer menu separate so that you can easily change it. When my server asks me what I'd like to drink, I don't want to get to my fourth choice by hearing, "We actually don't carry that any more/have that right now." for the first three things I ask for. And if you're going charge $14 for two small handfuls of nachos, you can at least make sure that there's a decent amount of toppings on it. Vegetables are not THAT expensive, especially in the amounts *you're* serving.

The new place is pretty nice. Certainly different than the original Lion's Head, which I miss and will continue to miss for what it was... a tavern/pub. The new place has more of a restaurant/dining room feel with a little bit of the old tavern charm. It's two stories and even has an elevator, so very accessible friendly. My steak was good and cooked perfectly, but they could stand to give you a few more fries with it. Prices seem to be a little more than the old Head, but overall, the new place was great. Hopefully they'll keep up the good work and not get too pricey.

I've been going to the Lion's Head Tavern since February 11th when they resumed their Thursday trivia night. Recently the bar manager decided to implement a new policy that will exclude my group from attending. The bar is okay, the acoustics are bad for trivia night, it tends to be difficult to hear anything coming out of the sound system. The drinks tend towards the pricier side compared to similar restaurants/bars.The food is also a little pricey relative to the quality I've experienced. The trivia host is excellent, and some of the servers are also very good. I wish I could say the same for the bar manager who didn't want to keep our business. The Old-Fashioned pictured may be my last drink at the Lion's Head. Edit: In response to the reply I received, to be clear the new policy is not that the Lion's Head no longer takes reservations. If you've been to the Lion's Head on a Thursday night you know many teams send a send someone ahead to grab a table precisely because the restaurant does not take reservations. This is how my team has operated for the last 10 months.They no longer want people to do that, and as a result my team decided to play trivia at a bar that is capable of accepting reservations. Fair warning to anyone that goes to the Lion's Head, you may end up waiting outside in the cold for some time before you're seated, and they may not be willing to give you a table even once you're inside.

Food and drink were good but the overall experience was shadowed by the loud drone of people talking. The main floor acoustics are really bad. The floor looked to be about 50% occupied and due to the way sound carried you had to speak very loud to have conversation with someone at your own table. Menu wasn't what I expected to see for a tavern but the overall taste was good, I had a shrimp dish from the middle eastern grill list on the menu. 2nd floor was off limits due to a private party and we took a buzz up to the rooftop before we left, it was nice. Reason for the 3 star rating is mainly for the main floor being so loud, I won't sit there again. I will try the Lionshead again but if the only seating is on the main floor i will leave and go elsewhere. Rooftop is a seasonal thing.

We went there this past Saturday with a group of 6 and was seated upstairs. We ordered our drinks and placed our order by 645pm, 45mins passed and we asked how much longer. We were told maximum 10 mins, then 15 mins passed and nothing. We asked again and was told 10 mins but had to ask if the kitchen even started the food and they DID NOT. We got up and left close to 8pm absolutely disappointed by the experience. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to have a nice night with family and good food. I WOULD NOT recommend this place at all. The renovations are nice but that's about it. Never ever going here again.

I have been going to the lions head for a while and I'm not a big fan of the new restaurant! The staff are friendly and the beer is always cold. And sure the new building is a beauty. But honestly What the hell happened to the menu? I'm sure ,I'm not the only one. I went from having favorites to having to learn a new menu . It's tends to follow a mezzas menu compared to your traditional pub menu .

So disappointing, they didn't have my Sonoma Salad, nor steaks. This is my first time at this new Lions Head and my last. I met my late husband at the Lions's Head, he was the doorman. My whole family has been coming here forever but this is the last time. I have recommended the Sonoma Salad to all my friends but now I am going to post it on my Facebook so that everyone that I know will see how disappointed I am with this tavern.

Building is the best part of the experience. Kudos to the architect. Although its rather bland inside. Menu is incorrect frequently. Example being prices not listed. They are overpriced Sysco foods. Inquired about the Sweet Potatoes fries being gluten free (as marked by the menu), the server said they were not. Then went back to the kitchen to check as she didn't actually know just told us an answer. Upon returning she said the kitchen staff checked the packaging for the fries... They charge a lot for McCain superfries.. The staff is extremely inexperienced and it does show. With months of down time you'd figure they would have trained some. The bartenders are good. Worried about making sure the drink is good. Very appreciated. Building heat is cranked right now. Upper floor feels like a sauna. They also ran out of menus yet have maybe 50 people there, seems odd to have such seating capacity yet not be able to actually support the number of customers. Seems like the old Lions Head would have just benefited from a remodel than a full fledged rebuild. Wont be returning sadly, and we had high hopes. Thank you though. Best of luck Lions Head.

There was a soccer match on tv and it was loud. And the food was mediocre. Burger bun was soggy. Ceasar salad had no crunch to it. Croutons were soggy. Green tea was expensive. $3 for a bag of green tea. Oh come on. I expect better quality than that. Lastly, the water glass had bleach/ dish washing detergent smell and taste to it. Very disappointed. Chicken wings were dry and not very good as well.

Ceasar salad with chicken was small and tasted like grocery store dressing. They no longer serve ribs which used to be good in the old place. The server was new and likely first time serving. I am giving this five stars based solely on the whiskey sour I had - this is the best whiskey sour I've had in this city. Hands down. It was perfectly balanced, equal parts sour and sweet, and heavy on the whiskey flavour. I tipped 25% on this single drink and I'll do it again. The new location is nice, doesn't have a ton of personality, yet, but I think it just needs some time. Staff all very friendly and approachable. Didn't have food cause the kitchen was closed, definitely will have to go earlier next time. Oh also shout out to the man working the door, he did an excellent job checking the vax records, very polite and professional.

The servers there are ridiculous. not only did they acted rude but they also tried to make us pay for the food we never got which was sitting right in front of her. So...we order a couple of orders of wings and the last order never came, we waited but we were too tired of waiting and decided to leave. we walked up front and haded us the bill and it didnt seem right so we asked how many orders of wings there were and she told us "thats everything..." ad we're like..."okay...so HOW MANY WERE THERE??????????" and then she said "4" and we said "well the last one didnt come" and she pointed at the kitchen top and said "oh they're there" then stared at us for a couple of second like it was our fault that we didnt get them when it was her fault for not bringing us the wings cause she was chatting with her co-worker... this is just one of the examples of terrible service. DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING THERE
