I live in the neighborhood of The Duck. I've been going to this pub for over 10 years. The Pork pulled sandwich is sooo good as is their wraps, burgers, fish and chips and pub snack foods. The staff are always friendly and courteous. If you want good pub food The Thirsy Duck is a great hang.

Tara is a SUPERSTAR! I just watched her work a night that most seasoned servers would've been hard pressed to pull off and likely would nope'd right out on. And then she smiled and talked of how she enjoyed her job when asked! She was the highlight of the night. 1 star off because the food was a big NO for me - sorry, I wanted to like it but think this is just a place to have a drink. . . even when you're serving that many people and I'll give you that, it was a ton of people served... the food should be fresh and at very least taste alright, 0/2 on that.

This is by far the crappiest bar within 10 miles. The food is OK, the people are nice, but why they'd leave one person in charge of the bar (with zero social skills and no manners) is just clueless. Go only if yer desperate to play pool.

Wing night gets you a lot of food for very little cost. It gets busy though because of it so expect delays in service as the poor servers are trying their best to keep up with the volume. Drinks are reasonable and there's a pool table if you feel the need to play. Free parking in the lot beside the building is a plus

Good place to have a pint or two to watch a game. Friendly clientele and the staff are good depending on who’s behind the bar! ( one of them is missing in action alot during shift). Didn’t have any food but what I saw come out of the kitchen looked great , smelled awesome, very appetizing indeed! On the cheap side price wise. You won’t break the bank. Lots of parking on the side. Good pub. The decor is a bit dated/ tired but the rest that I mentioned more than makes up for it. Cheers ????

Nice clean place, food is pretty good, server was super. Music's a little loud and intrusive for a chat with a friend, which is kind of the vibe here but that's probably because it's so empty with the social distancing rules, and there's no carpet or sound dampening surfaces. If it was full of people it would be appropriate for the hubub of a crowd.

I’m amending a past review here. The first night I dropped by The Thirsty Duck last year felt negative, but I’ve since been back several times and my opinions have changed. The staff is sometimes short/quick in passing, but when you see how efficient they are & how many people they serve it’s quite impressive. What I originally took for rudeness I now realize was just the staff being in control of managing a huge amount of late night drunk people, lol! They actually are very good at keeping the place under control & orders on their way. Good food & beer - check them out, and just be patient if they’re dealing with the late night crowds!

Going to walk in to meet friends, staff were not wearing masks, no distancing, filled to the brim with people. Turned right around and walked out. Would not be surprised if they were shut down. My friends said people who came in with masks were laughed out of the restaurant by other guests. My friends did not stay long.

The food was great but I think there was only one waitress working tonight and she was not polite at all. I understand that she might be burdened with a lot of work being the only person working that night but that doesn't mean she should show a bad attitude towards the customers. I didn't leave her any tip because of that. Whoever the owner is, may want to look into this.

Went on a Friday night as the fridge was empty. The place clearly has its locals, no big deal..people were friendly. Had a 50/50 draw and a meat draw but I have no idea where the money raised went. Ordered the Duck Burger special and OMG it was massive: beef burger or chicken burger with fried egg, onion rings, mushrooms, tomato, everything but the kitchen sink! Just share, trust me!

Thought we'd try this place again after a couple of years. We went on a Friday at 5.30pm. Was very busy! People were having fun, lots of customers knew each other. A little too loud for my liking. Definitely had a neighborhood pub vibe. They had meat draws and 50/50 raffles going. We won a pot roast! They have a great 2 for 1 deal during happy hour (from 2 to 6pm), but wings are not included on that deal. Our bill for four drinks and four appies was $55, plus tip, thanks to happy hour. Our servers were very friendly. The tables were spaced and people wore masks, but some areas were dense and seemed like Covid breeding grounds. There was a pool table in the middle with people playing with it. I did not see hand sanitizer available, nor did I see sanitizing of tables and chairs after use. We ordered Mexican Sunsets (half cranberry juice/half grapefruit + 1 shot of tequila. I like mine tall with lots of ice) and they were watery. The juice was not flavourful. We are gluten and dairy free (but don't usually react to cross contamination from fryers), FODMAP and histamine sensitive. Couldn't have the wings because they are breaded. Went with the dry ribs and sweet potato fries with honey mustard to dip. Randy was flushed and stuffed up within 5 minutes of eating, so something in the food triggered his histamine sensitivity. I felt okay, but by morning had a very upset stomach. We were not able to identify what were the triggers. Best to avoid this place if you have food sensitivities or prefer a quiet environment. Otherwise, it's a great hang out place!

This used to be a nice spot to enjoy a drink and surprisingly good food at great value. Old school and worn looking but still fine. Sadly, new owners took over the pub some months ago and they have ruined the place. New staff are indifferent and grumpy, the menu changed dramatically and the food is now lousy. Their formerly great chicken wings are now tiny, burned and barely edible. Too bad.

For a small, rinky dink neigborhood pub, the staff was nice but my exprience wasn't good ( I was with a group of colored folks). The white men who were also customers told the group to "pay your rent" and said amongst themselves "thank god they're leaving". This is a good place for white, neighborhood locals, but probably not the safest for non-whites.

There are less than 3 pubs within walking distance that has a pool table to play. The pub can be full but it's rare. Staff are okay. They give more chit chat to the regulars and tend to you when you want assistance. I like it that way until I know my servers more, so it works for me.

I went for the first time to this place and Tara left me a bad taste on my mouth. First thing was that we were playing music in the jukebox and politely we asked her to turn up the volume, her attitude was so rude she said a straight no and we said ok, and we let it pass but second thing was that we had to approach to the bar because she wasn’t coming to our table.. OMG! But the cherry of the cake was that when we ordered more drinks she said “NO, BECAUSE YOU’RE TALKING TOO MUCH IN SPANISH” what does that mean? Now because we’re latinos we can’t speak our language and that’s why she denied us the service?

I will say every other time that my wife and I were here it was amazing. Today NOT. Service was terrible and when my wife asked when her lunch was coming the waitress said she never ordered,so she left hungry. My eggs Benny were cold and no condiments like salt and pepper or ketchup for my hash browns. Well I didn't eat them either as they were cold too. Our waitress was doing the best she could but with no support from management they will surely fail. That's too bad. That girl needed help and I don't think the owner even cared! Shame on you

haven't been in awhile but used to go constantly for Thirsty Thursdays! place was often quite busy and the servers would forget your orders or just mess them up in general, the pizzas were watery (soggy veggies), etc etc.. however it's still a classic new west hang out!

Edit: The duck has re-opened! Recently under new management. There are small changes to the menu but overall still a great gem in the Brow of the Hill.

I am always treated well by the staff and have a great time at this place, the people are very friendly and I had the chance to try their food most recently at a customer appreciation event that they invited me to. The appetizers were all very good and my favorite was the Jalapeno Poppers, so I ordered extra. The prices on everything seem very reasonable to me and I cant wait to go back once I get a day off work. :)

Service is slow. The one old server, Tera i believe her name is only pays attention to regulars. Ive been to this pub multiple times and each time ive had to wait 15 minutes for a menu and a beverage. Dont come here if you dont know the servers personally, they could care less about newcomers.

Nahh... Service is very slow. Food on the otherhand is quite delicious but again after waiting 15 mins to order makes you disappointed and another 15 mins to receive your bill makes you forget the good experience you had.

The Thirsty Duck, or as my bro says the ‘Dehydrated Foul’ is definitely a go to pub in New West! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They greet us by name and have our favourite bevies poured before we even sit down! The food is decent and very reasonably priced! The owner Harry always stops by to say hi and chat, and has been very good to us. Thanks Harry!

The food you could tell was out of a frozen box not freshly made and then put in a deep fryer which you could also tell the oil hadn't been changed in awhile. The group of us ordered nachos twice and both times were burned. We all agreed no matter what you ordered it taste like crap and greasy. There was also a waitress there when we came in she was extremely pushy and impatient when we were ordering even though the place was so dead just a few local drunks at bar. Not ten minutes in the pub and the same waitress also physically pushed a local drunk in pub out the doors while yelling and swearing.This same and only waitress working was waaaaay too friendly with me. I am a young female and she made me feel very uncomfortable twice with physically touching me inappropriately on my leg wwhile standing and my shoulder while sitting. The same waitress when a male asked for something from our group of 6-8 would ignore them. This was my worst experience at any pub I have ever been in. I strongly don't recommend it and I will never return.

Great price on wings from 4ish onwards on wednesday. You need to buy a drink with it though. One of the waitresses always remembers your perferred drink orders if you're a regular.

The servers are really nice and on the ball. They took the cups and bowls away without us even noticing. They're really courteous and have great suggestions for food and drinks. I wish I could afford to tip them more than the 30% I tipped.

Thirsty Duck is a local gem of New Westminster. Food is great, prices are reasonable and Tara, the waitress and heart of the Thirsty Duck is awesome and super friendly. If you're looking for a nice & comfy place to grab a bite or a drink with friends, you should definitely give it a try.

It is what it looks like a weirdo dive bar. Over priced pinner food my beef dip had 3 slices on it... makes subway look like all u can eat. Waitress literally cleaned my table and washed it spraying me while im still sitting and the tables was clean to start with.
