Since the renovation and the new owner(?), the food quality is much better. I recommend the calamari and caeser salad. The calamari is pretty good crispy. The Caesar salad is fresh. At the same time, you do lose some of the local colour from before the renovation, but that's probably not a bad thing. I'm not sure dark corners, broken tiles, and grimey walls are everyone's thing.

Overdue update: The renovations have given the place a huge facelift. It's got a more modern but cozy feel. There's a good number of beers on tap, and the new additions the menu are great! Fries and wings are still spot on, and the prawns are delicious! Daily happy hour on drinks and appies, too. -------------------------------------------------------- Hole-in-the wall feel to it. Could use a face lift and a better selection of liquor. The food, however, is pretty good. Fries are spot on - crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. I also really enjoy the wings as they are normally served without breading (breading can be added). The mac and cheese balls are also scrumptious. Service can sometimes be slow because there's usually only one waitress/bartender, but they are very nice and friendly. This place can really benefit from a good redecorating and a few additional staff.

Staff is a hit or miss. Boss doesnt seem too car much. Food is average, taste different depending on who’s cooking! Over 35 Beers on Tap, thats the good part! The Bear Paw Honey Loger is yummy and my favourite. But you definitely need to be drunk to enjoy this crowed small bar.

The burger I had wasn’t that great, not worth 13 bucks. Very little sauce too much bun and the patty tasted like sawdust. The French fries were from the costco cafeteria, I ordered the poutine which was ok until I found a long black hair in it. Then I was asked if I wanted a different appetizer thinking it would be on the house. So I wanted to try the shrimp, but ended up paying 13 dollars for 7 shrimps. All in all the food portions were small, the taste was bad, and I ended up paying for a more expensive appetizer when the first one had a hair in it.

Love the renovations they have done! The place is so nice, clean and bright now. All the beer is $6 and they have lots of local breweries to choose from. The food was really good, and reasonably priced as well. The room at the back would be perfect for parties. Will definitely be back.

Everytime I come to New West we end up here. The Taphouse is a short walk from where we stay and it is good. My favorite part of the restaurant is the beer menu. It offers a wide variety of beer. A lot of local options as well. They have a few ciders tp choose from also. The food is okay. Honestly nothing special. The service is lacking and could use a little pick me up. Whenever we go in we aren't greated by the hostess. The wait times for drinks can be a little long as well. Same goes for the food. That's why it does not get a full 5 stars.

We had a great trip time here. Good food, lots of TVs for sports, interesting cocktails, and PHENOMENAL wait staff! Great crowd for the basketball game and a good location. The AC was a little cool at our seat but not unbearable. It seemed like the owner hovers around micro managing the wait staff which is always unsightly.

What a great job they did on the renovation, and the FOOD? WOW. I tried the crispy Wantons with Marinara sauce (delicious), the creole shrimp, (more please) and the Greek Style Ribs (very good). They have a meeting room in the back that can accommodate 25 people and the staff is super friendly. Tanesha and Dayton the bartenders were very good at helping me navigate their 25 beers on tap (many local favorites) and the numerous TV's make it an excellent spot for sporting events. It is also family friendly until 8:00 PM with several large comfy booths to choose from. It is a place I would go for a fun casual date with my wife. I was really impressed with what the new owners have done and their German chef, (yes chef) brings a ton of creativity and experience to the menu. YAY FOR SAPPERTON!

Decent. The beer selection has gone down hill... More macro brews than before. Less real craft beer. Good staff and pretty good food. I like the trivia night. Lots of TVs for sports if you're into that. The worst thing for me is the men's room. It stinks. SERIOUSLY! Why do they even have urinals? It could not smell any worse if dudes had just been pissing on the floor in the corner for the last 20 years. It's like the urinals just empty into the walls and the piss ferments into a robust bouquet reminiscent of a downtown Eastside alley during a summer heatwave. Next. Level. Piss. Stench. Four stars.

The review I used to have here was for the Fireside. It's lousy that they kept it up for a new, seemingly chain, joint.(A "Taphouse" has opened in every failed bar in the area). It looks like a tiny Cactus Club. The beer is not cheap.( Though I noticed they put basic beers back on the menu, hoping to get the regulars back). The real issue, though is the day staff spend more time poking at their phones than watching the patrons. Really just sort of a bleh experience.

Friendly, cozy neighborhood pub. Great beer selection (14 on tap!) And very decent prices, including a daily sleeve special for around $4! Food menu is nothing special... usual pub fare, but excellent, and it was served up fast by a personable and efficient server. It's really close to Royal Columbian Hospital. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in the neighborhood. Maybe after visiting someone in hospital... Worth a trip.

Three times I’ve been here, and every time the bartender (different person each time) has failed to acknowledge me for at least five minutes after sitting at the bar even though there are only 2-5 other patrons. And once they have acknowledged me, they’ve offered incredibly slow service.

Totally agree Van Foodie,the bartender seems to only care about the regulars. Went there a few times because it's so close to my place ,and every time left with the feeling unwelcome. Even if you stand right in front of them they still ignore you. They only start being friendly to you after they saw what you left them for tips.

Pretty decent tap list, 32 beers on tap with some pretty standard craft options that we see in a lot of other places. In saying that its still a solid list of tasty beers Waited about 40 minutes for a chicken sandwich and some wings... Thats a little long of a wait in my books, especially when there was only about 10 other people in the place. The chicken sandwich was really good once I got it though. Its a relatively new place and may be its still working all the kinks out but in saying that a little step up in everyone's game and this place will easily become a popular spot in New West.

Great spot if you are going for sports, has lots of TV's. Tough to miss any action no matter where you sit. Has a great selection of beers and interesting cocktails. Food selection good and very delicious. Staff was very attentive and polite, food and drinks arrived on a timely manner. I really want to like the place. I live in the neighbourhood and was eagerly awaiting the transformation of the old Fireside. They've done a lot of things well, but there are so many ongoing service issues that the whole "growing pains" argument is getting weak. It's now just expected that you're going to get terrible service--likely wait for anyone to even notice you, let alone see if you need new drinks. After being open more than 6 weeks, this shouldn't be the norm. It's hard not to feel that the owners are taking the neighbourhood for granted, since it doesn't seem like there is any real effort being made to improve these problems. More and more people are saying the same thing, and more and more people are going to give up on this spot. The owners better be careful. They sunk a lot of money into this place and it's been doing well, but locals are losing their patience (as you can clearly see from the most recent reviews).

Insulted. I was excited to bring my friends here for my birthday to show them the new renos and was rudely turned away at the door. I felt belittled by the bartender who told me it was Friday and there was no chance we were getting in, even though we could see at least two different areas where we could be seated or we would have been happy to wait but we weren’t given the option. We had just come from dinner and were sober and respectable but were met with aggression and rudeness. I will not be coming back, as I have negative experiences in the past but was willing to give the District another chance.

It's missing something with the decor. Some colour on the walls, perhaps some local art pieces,would bring the inner space to life. Currently it just looks like a run of the mill sports bar with lots of wood and grey walls. Has an ok beer selection.

Wing Wednesday.....Wow! I love chicken wings...who doesn’t? What I dislike about chicken wings is when they are so spicy, they burn your tongue, or so fresh out of the fryer, they burn your fingers. Enter District Taphouse to the rescue! Had the Jamaican Jerk wings and let me tell you, my fingers and mouth were cool as a cucumber. Not sure what their secret was but I was able to eat my chicken without any fear of fire. Kudos Chef DTNW, kudos.

Very disappointed in this place. I live in the neighborhood and wanted to try this place after the re-branding. Finally got around to it and the food was best described as meh; fries were good though. Worst of all, I was served a beer in a broken glass. I pointed it out to the server, who took it back to the bar, then I watched the bartender just pour it into another glass. The nice thing was I had a nice new clean unbroken glass...unfortunately I had a beer that had lost its head and carbonation with the bonus of the potentially harmful shards of glass. It at least looked nice on the table as I walked away.

Our waitresses were very friendly. Atmosphere was great, we had the ribs and ceasarmari(ceasar salad with calamari). The ribs were amazing, fall off the bone tender with a great bbq sauce. The ceasar salad had tons of flavour and the calamari wasn't over cooked, which is always a plus. Overall I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to go out for a few beers and a bite to eat.

I had already eaten dinner prior to my arrival but all of my friends' food looked delicious and they raved about it. Our server was super friendly and funny. The trivia night was a blast of fun for my group of friends. The place looks very high end and the menu looked very accomodating. The ONLY thing that made me turn my nose up was that some patrons at the bar had clearly been overserved and were excessively loud. (and not like, participating in the trivia event loud, but obnoxious blubbering and ranting. I would probably be embarassed to take a date there because of that. It cheapens the place. I know its a touchy topic to address, especially with regulars, but its important to know when enough is enough. It's something that has to be handled delicately, but handled.

I had tried to make a reservation for 2 people and they told me they would have to call me back in a few hours. First off why would it take several hours to check if theres a reservation available. Secondly, I did not hear back from the establishment. Had they called me back and just let me know that there is nothing available it would have been fine. This is not the first experience with issues with reservations here. I had called to make reservations several months ago for a large group which was confirmed over email. And when we showed up they had no record of this reservation. Luckily it was a weekday night ans the place wasnt busy and there was a table readily available.

Still finding its way. Sapperton didn't really need another Browns social house which is what this place feels like on a smaller scale. I'm sure it will find a good balance with time. Second visit, absolute garbage. Thought id give it another shot. Waited a bit for a beer, keg needed to be changed...fair enough I get it, no explanation while waiting however and then given the glass with no acknowledgement either. Was going yo order food but never asked if I wanted to order anything, no eye contact even made so I could potentially catch the bartenders attention. All the staff at the corner of the bar who were off work got great service though. It's a shame, I loved this place before, will not entertain a 3rd visit.

Food, drink selection, and service is generally good and we like the decor improvements that have been made. It is a nice, refreshed space. However, it's a shame that they don't keep up the exterior of the pub to reflect how nice it is on the inside. Despite the clearly posted no smoking signs, cigarette butts and garbage litter the sidewalk and gutter, and is also discarded into the planters adjacent to the door. First impressions matter!

This is a nice local pub with a large selection of beers on tap located on the Sapperton area in New Westminster, B.C. They do have happy hours and some good options as well. It is by transit and the skytrain so it’s pretty easy to get to if you’re in the area. If your in the area, I would recommend checking it out.
