Poor service , when asked if we could add some more hand sanitizer to washroom the Server shook her shoulders and head said sorry...had to wipe table three times from dried in stains...just a very poor environment and even worse service from all staff...meal cost too much and was over cooked as well

Really good food, has a nice atmosphere very relaxing by the river when eating outside. It is a pub like place, so I didn't expect instant service, I usually like to take my time with that I was pleased to have great service and not feel rushed.

I live 1 block from this place and took my family there at 2:30pm. Probably one of the slower times in the day. We ordered drinks and food and waited.... and waited. 1.5 hours passed, so I asked the server how long until the food was ready. She said it should be up next. I asked how long and she shrugged her shoulders. I told her we may need to leave and she shrugged her shoulders again. Eventually we decided to leave and she didn't even have the decency to comp 3 beers. Terrible attitudes from all the staff we encountered. I NEVER complain at restaurants, but this was brutal. Sometimes food takes longer, mistakes happen, but have some respect for your customer's time. I would like to review the food, but clearly I can't. I will make sure none of my friends or family visit, unless they have an hour and an half to waste. I would recommend The Hub or Kelly O'Briens. Reading all the other reviews on here, it looks like good service is not something they are interested in. It comes up again and again on here, but nothing changes.

I've gotten sick directly after going here more than once. I go out of convenience only. It's a nice location but could be way better. I think perhaps cleanliness is an issue. Im not accusing them by any means but pigeons literally fly into your table on the patio. Not their fault but there should be a guy in a life guard chair with an air rifle on duty at all times. Maybe he accidently shoots me going for a pigeon, maybe he doesn't. Who cares?

Been here multiple times as it’s probably the best pub in the area and we have many family lunches here. The kitchen is Slooooooooow. Really slow.I don’t mind waiting but management need to identify busy periods and inform customers when wait times will be excessive. After waiting almost an hour we enquired and were then told we would be waiting a further 20 minutes. I’m glad we were given what sounded like a realistic expectation but at this point we left and went to the food court around the corner. I feel sorry for the servers who have to take the brunt of angry customers for issues that are not really their problem. It’s sucks they the servers are the ones having to apologize to the tables. In situations like this someone from management or the kitchen needs to be the one explaining what went wrong and what they are doing to try and rectify the problem.

Just a short distance from the New Westminster Skytrain along the quay with a great outdoor patio and a nice view of the Fraser River. A huge selection of beers on tap and a pretty decent selection of vegetarian options. Very pleasant atmosphere, especially on a nice day with the outdoor patio.

A fine place for a casual drink with decent pub food. The best part of the pub is their patio, which is right on the Quay and looks over the river. A great summer spot. They also have sports on the TV's inside.

HORRID! DISGUSTING! CHEAP! DIRTY! Yesterday (Aug 15th 2016) around noon with my friend: #1. When we entered there was no sign "Please, wait to be seated" or "Please, seat yourself" and no greeting/welcome from the three waitresses who walked past us nor the bartender---even with us smiling and making eye contact. Poor 1st impression. #2. Once we seated ourselves outside, the waitress told us the specials including a $8 burger & fries. Later when we ordered my friend was abruptly told that she had to order a drink to receive that price. Wow, the waitress' tone was bordering rude and this could've easily been explained with her initial description. #3. Food arrives. This is a Pub so I thought I'd play it safe and order chicken strips & fries for $12. What a pathetic plate of food!!!! It was five or six perfectly flat preformed/cookie-cutter-style identically shaped MINCED chicken strips---you know the ones that you buy in clear bulk bags from some cheap store?! And in a lame attempt at fancy plating (but really to cheaply save money on the portion of french fries) they had unceremoniously shoved the fries into a shiny cup. IF a pub is going to serve fries like that, the cook should make an effort to arrange them vertically because what I got was a mess of jumbled, broken, squished french fries. My friend's $8 burger special? A flat pre-formed cookie-cutter-style burger patty---once again, just like the patty you'd pull out of a box from your freezer. It had the faked scalloped edges all around. So disgraceful and cheap. #4. The trip to the restroom was revolting! A dust ridden full spider's web in the upper corner of the doorway!---made even more noticeable by the sun pouring in from the window and illuminating it! Then I looked around at the walls and any horizontal surface and I wanted to go puke! How can the workers not see this???? Summary: I will NEVER go back to this joint! Poorly managed! Poorly staffed! The lowest standards I've ever seen in a touristy location! I cannot even imagine what the conditions in the kitchen are if the visible areas are so revolting, dirty and unkempt! Once an owner starts making decisions to serve low quality frozen bulk food to its customers you know that business is in trouble. Just sayin.....

Went here for brunch to celebrate a friend's wedding. The server was extremely obnoxious and incredibly rude. It took the server a long time to get our drinks in order and whenever we asked for whatever the server would reply "yep, water will be here" in a very condescending tone. We were polite and understanding cause we thought maybe it was short staffed however there were two other waiters inside while the rest were outside so not sure what that was about. When we asked how long it would be for food cause other people in the party had to be somewhere by a certain time the server responded "45 minutes to an hour." We were obviously shocked but understood and he replied to our reaction by saying "well if you look at our kitchen it is not meant to accommodate your party size." So then realizing some of us couldn't stay for food we had to cancel it and approached the server. When we requested to cancel our food the server said "are you serious?" Worst customer service, I always give the benefit of the doubt but if you can't serve a 20+ crowd then don't. Get someone else, we were also pretty hung over and happy so tips would have been great if the service was. I don't doubt the food but I doubt this service. It was my first time so I am not sure if I will come back.

The live music on a Saturday night was just about ok. The drinks came in fast but the food (appetizers) took forever to come. Seasoning on the yam fries was good. Options for beer were limited and nothing that was enticing. Expectations were not met. Not sure if I'll revisit the place.

Well, this is our second time to this pub. Our first experience was not good. It took over 1 hr for our food to arrive that they took one order off our bill. Second time, we are here is May 5th, 2019 and out waitress is non existent. It took so long to get acknowledge for our 2nd drink order that another waitress came by to see if we are ok. We finally got to order our drink but it took more than 20 min to even get it. I see food orders ready to be delivered yet the food staff is so slow in picking up and delivering to customers and there are alot of waitresses working. It's not that busy either so I can't understand the slow service? By the time the food is even delivered it's probably cold, which happened to us on our first visit. I don't think we would ever come here again! We have still not seen our waitress sinces our 2nd drinks arrived. You can get better service and food at the Terminal city pub down the road. I hope management can rectify this issue? It is NOT okay for the bartender (female) to tell customers that they are busy for the reason that they are not acknowledging customers!!!!! The view of the river front is amazing, that's one good thing I can say.

Decent spot for unpretentious pub food, good drink prices, and awesome location. Stopped in here after going for a walk along the river, nice patio and $5 pints of PBR got us interested. I got the mac and cheese skillet, and my partner got the chicken burger. Both were excellent and the service was good as well. It's pretty loud even outside though, something I didn't really enjoy. Will definitely return.

Good beer selection, excellent service, fair prices and a beautiful view! You can't lose if you're looking for a place for a quick beer and meal on the water. I ordered the Fish and Chips and they were excellent, the fish was fresh and immaculately fried. High recommend.

This place is a gem in its own .. The Service is fantastic and the Bartenders are awesome (Go see James the Bartender on Friday or Saturday evening for an awesome ice cold Beer or Cocktail and tell him that Matty sent ya! ????) .. The food is absolutely wonderful and very flavorful .. I would highly recommend the Elvis Burger or the Poutine if your feeling a little hungover or very hungry .. A very good place to watch the games mainly the NHL Playoffs and the UFC Fights as well! ????

Came here with some friends for Canada Day. We got a table outside sat for 40 minutes tried to get the servers attention and was not even acknowledge by him. I get that it was busy but we we left after a few elderly ladies asked if they could order something and the waiter said "everybody wants their order taken" then walked away from them. They got there the same time we did. And I get it was busy but we were not even acknowledged. Went to another pub. Just as busy got service right away.

The food was delicious and had a lovely presentation. The prawns in the prawn tacos were juicy and perfectly cooked and the coffee cheesecake was to die for. Abdul, our waiter, was pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable. The only downside would be that the water was stale tasting.

Came on a Saturday afternoon for a snack. Had the calamari and it was quite good! I was actually quite surprised because I went in not expecting much. The batter was crispy and the dip cut through the richness of the calamari. Also, they apparently have meat draw every Saturday afternoon to support a high school in downtown NW? Very cool.

This is a New Westminster long time favorite. Service is friendly. Decor is pretty standard and hasn't changed much over the years which is good in my opinion. I do find that on occasion cleanliness could be improved i.e. floors, doors, washrooms. I understand that there is a shortage of good servers in BC but this pub always seems to have servers that seem happy to work there and this shows in their attitude towards customers. The food menu is standard pub fair. In recent months they changed the menu adding a couple of new items and eliminated many old ones to a good pared down presentation. One in our most recent group outing had the calamari appy which they said was nicely done, tasty and adequately proportioned however they wished that it was served with the traditional chopped red onions. Views of the Fraser and docks from every chair. I like it lots.

I had the BEST time here. I had a blonde server, and she was hilarious! (Think her name was Jess??) She made my experience 10x better! She was very attentive, prompt, polite but also had a great personality that had us "lol-ing" will definitely come back! Especially if shes working! Patio is great, nice views. Food is good.

Paddlewheeler has become one of our go to spots. Been coming here for the better part of a year now and not once have we had a bad experience or meal. Breakfast is amazing, they got a great menu going on. The Mac and cheese, is so good! They know how to make a proper Caesar ( hard to find these days) staffs always quick and kind. We love coming here on sunny weekends and hanging out on the patio, a great meal with a stunning view is a great treat. Also make your own mimosa is top notch ????

Interior is bright and a nice view of the river. Outside has patio seating overlooking the river. Although by the time we left the place was packed with alot of older seniors. . Staff were nice. Ordered the nachos to share, but substituted the soggy refried beans added as filler, for 'extra' cheese the nachos came and were burnt and the 'Extra' cheese we ordered and were charged for even though we added it as a substitution, came all burnt and stuck to the parchment paper. The salsa you needed a pitch fork to get it onto your dry blackened tortilla chip I think i encountered 3 pieces of jalepno in the whole plate. When u put the menus down on the table you have to peel them off the table in oreder to pick them up. This place would DEFINITELY benefit from a visit from Gordon Ramsey!! Definitely wont eat here again but might come back in the summer for patio beers.

The most awful place I've ever had breakfast or service. We've been waiting 30 minutes to get our drink and it's almost an hour for our food to come up. The restaurant isn't even full for the staff not to be able to handle it. They are absolutely disgusting of how they serve you and greet you. I have never ever seen service like this before. For a simple breakfast to wait an hour is pretty sad. 8 customers left so far because they were told that the wait for food is 50 minutes. Wow! Don't run a business you can't handle. Specially with the awkward staff that works here.

Excellent pub for drinks and lunch. Great service offered by Brooke, and extremely affordable menu . Any dish in the menu , with great variety , at just $9.95 CND, and generous portions . We had chicken wings , delicious burger with gruyere and caramelized onions and apple and chef’s Clubhouse sandwich . The desserts are unbelievable .....like in the picture the Panookie, just for 8 CND but it is a portion for 4 people .... very very delicious and honestly no trendy restaurant in lower mainland has it like in Paddlewheeler Pub. Honestly is a place to be visited and they follow very strict rules of social distance and sanitization.

This pub its right by the water, Frasier river in New Westminster I've come here couple saturdays now with my friend Dave. Short walk from new west skytrain station, if your staying late. This place haven't been very crowded everytime we have been here. Fun environment right by the river beautiful view, the staff were all friendly for the most part. The food is good especially the chicken wings, good place to go, meet people hang out by the water. Weird creepy statue of Simon Fraser right in front of the pub facing the water...

Decent food, Poor service, Wrong bill. Below average experience for above average pricing. The server was overwhelmed with a small request for a tall glass for a double drink. Wine order was wrong then replaced. Overall food was just about decent. Pricing in menu vs the bill was different. Nice patio but not sure if I will be going back. Manager came to apologize but the damage has been done. How good is a restaurant which can't handle a busy day!

Went for brunch and my friend was told that he needed to order a drink if he wanted to order breakfast. This isn’t posted in the restaurant or on the menu. When asking the staff about it, we were told that the drink is cheap so what does it matter. Worst business ever, they don’t actually care about customer service. Skip this place until they get proper management.

I really like their food, and their service this past year has been awesome to me. Their beer selection is great. My favorite thing is their fish and chips. Also they have an awesome patio, which is great for social distancing and covid precautions. They definitely upgraded from years back. I would recommend this place for new westies looking for good pub food and drinks.

Actually good food. Most of the negative reviews can be understandable yet overestimated. I get it... the store bought croutons for the Ceasar, the bland basmati... but the service was nonetheless very courteous and friendly. The salmon was delectable, albeit slightly over temp. This is a reputed pub with pub delectables. It gets to me sometimes when diners forget the place's speciality. OK friends. Here it is. When you are near the water... try the freaking fish meals! Have a bit of patience with the service... not everyone is a service god. Most try to please.. such was my experience. Good wine assortment. I'll be back tomorrow evening for my fish and chips test. Thanks for the lovely salmon. Thank you hilarious and contagious lyrics laughing woman.... wait what the freak is a Brazilian coffee... also a test. Dear barmaid, I am sorry but I had to.... I'm sure the coffee will be great... oh snap it was. And finally, per my own advice, specialities... this is not a dessert place. There's the reason for only having one dessert on the menu. Great job gang. PS HEY BARMAID ARE YOU SINGLE? OK ok and about the dessert.... it's the only one they need on their menu. Well done.

I give this place a three star because the staff was friendly and service was great. Unfortunately the fish and chips (which came in a healthy portion) was slacking because the cook probably haven't changed the deep fryer oil in ages. The batter on my fish and the fries had a bitterly taste. Other than that, alright place to hang out in New West.

Went for Wings Wednesday and left pretty satisfied. The wings were very crunchy and quite tasty (despite not all being sauced evenly). Really loved the blue cheese dip which had the most delicious chunks of creamy blue cheese in it. Also had their peach sour to wash it all down, which was light and refreshing. The other food that was coming out looked tasty too (calamari, burgers, taco salad) so we might try some of those next time. Solid pub food, reasonable prices, and a huge patio (perfect given the current pandemic restrictions) makes it a good place for some casual eats on the waterfront.

Good Pub right by the Quay in New West by the Waterfront, lots of room on the Patio and the Patio to the right had some kicking music and UFC on the Tv's outside, food not bad but could use a bit of beefing up variety wise. The jolly waitress was on top service wise :) and the bevies were above par ????????

Took a very long time to get menus , once we did took even longer to order ! The drinks took forever , ordered the Cajun chicken nachos , which were warm and the chicken were burnt ! The sangria was pathetic ! The waitresses were little girls who had no clue what they were doing !! A few dodgy people hanging around the establishment. Nice to see the police were walking around .

Great place, my favourite patio in New West. Usually awesome service, occasionally under staffed and some people become inpatient.. It happens though and at least there is the beautiful river to admire in the mean time. :) Food is good, Menu is usually changing, drinks are good, reasonably priced.. My boyfriend and I's main brunch spot on weekends as we live just up the hill :)

We made reservations over a week ago so they knew a huge group was coming! Cool pub but ridiculously understaffed. Or at least I hope that's what it was. A huge group of us were here for a big party and we waited for over an hour for our food. The food was alright but I've had better pub food.

Tried to eat here with my son and a friend. Waitress told us we couldn’t sit at the table we were at with my son because of some imaginary boundary that was 2 feet behind our table. When I asked if we could move the table back a bit so my son would be on the “right” side of the imaginary line, the waitress asked if we wanted to speak with the manager. I said sure. The manager was curt, condescending and rude. We left. Had a delicious lunch on the patio at Wild Rice steps down the boardwalk and the food and service there were both excellent.

Hadn't been here in years and the food has deffinately gone down hill. Steak sandwich was actually served on a slice of wonderbread made into garlic toast but the steak was good. Friend had a beef dip and the beef wasn't tender, it was border line beef jerky. If i come here again I'd stick to the booze.

This place wasn’t so great when I moved to New West a decade ago but we went again recently and I think it’s great now! The burgers are terrific - they even offer both diner style and grill style burgers, which I’ve never seen anywhere else. Great view, service is good, and live music once in a while. Check it out.

This place is a staple in New West, you must go. In the summer time they host one of THE NICEST patios to go and sit in the sunshine. A great place to meet up with friends over a great selection of beer, including a few that are brewed locally. They host some pretty great pub food. The beef dip sandwich is my fave.

Went to circus school and then came down for some eats and alcohol. Had a bellini bomb (bellini with upside down mini champagne bottle) fish and chips and a bulldog with a full size Corona upside down. Very tasty food, even the fries were good. Drink were great as well

Portions are very generous, and prices are great. Service is always good too. Best chicken strips in town no question. They are huge, not greasy, they use real slices of chicken breasts then batter them, none if this frozen pre batered stuff. Nachos are massive and delicious, and definitely try the panookie. Never had a bad meal at the paddle wheeler. Keep it up 10/10 Edit- I change this to a 3/5 as the chicken strips are no where what they were when this this review was written, and poor beer selection, out of taps often. Still other menu items are great but this place doesn't have much consistency unfortunately. Can't go wrong with patio drinks here

I reviewed this place about a year before and it was o.k. but the food and service seems to have gone down hill since then. Drinks were left empty until we got our food (which was an hour after we ordered) and the waitress on at the time was terrible. Fish and chips tasted like mush. A terrible shame as this place used to be better.

This place is always busy because of its patio by the river, but the food and drinks are blah. Their modified pandemic menu has everything listed for one price -$10. We ordered the burger and it was literally the smallest hamburger I've ever had excerpt for that one one as a child when I tried the junior burger off the $0.99 menu at a fast food joint.

Food and drinks was ok, what I would expect at a pub just don’t look at the venue too close as it’s quite dirty in the corners and in general fortunately it’s really dimly lit so most of it is hidden in the shadows. Just not a place I would revisit due to the state I’ve seen it in, hope this changes in the future as the location is amazing.

It's been over a year since I've visited due to COVID-19. I plan to return immediately once restrictions are lifted by the talented Dr. Henry. I must admit: I constantly reminisce of my times here. It truly was a place where I could unwind with my peers and discus the rather deeper points of metaphysics (of which all of us studied). Conversations typically turned to the paranormal as the night wore on. Many of us had had strange experiences while abroad on sabbatical. I'm giving this place five stars, although I almost gave it four. The Paddlewheeler used to have a Quesadilla that was in a cheese tortilla with a chipotle sauce. It was magnificent. Something that would lift your spirits after traveling there in the pounding rain following a disturbing academic discovery. It truly reflected the greatness of the Paddlewheeler beyond their wonderful patio. Unfortunately, it was taken from us too soon. I still lament to my feline comrade Kelloggs about how much I miss it. Usually after a night out of course.

Think of the worst service that you've gotten from any restaurants before and then take another notch down is what you can expect from this place. Customers are constantly yelled at for seating in the "wrong" area. (Not just us) Their menu was out of date and it was our fault for not seeing that the monthly special was past apparently. Upon ordering a vegetarian meal where we specified not to have any meat in it, it came filled with beef strips. Most importantly, it was somehow our fault for all of this. Server never apologized for any of the mistakes made.

Terrible service! We came in on a Sunday evening, as a friend recommended the place to us. I had to run to the bathroom, but my spouse stood at the door way for a bit waiting to see if you had to be seated or not, no one greeted him. When I returned we had moved towards the bar to ask if we just seat ourselves, but the bar tender was busy with other customers. so we went out to the deck, and the server was busy as well, we then just chose a semi dirty table to sit at, figuring we could just ask someone to clean it off for us. The waitress seemed annoyed that we seated ourselves, so she proceeded to continue serving everyone around us, negating to offer to clean the table or offer menus. As we sat watching her work with people around us we noticed a few other patrons wondering around, similar to us trying to find seats, but with no one offering a greeting they decided to just leave. My spouse pointed them out and I decided it was a great idea. After about 10-15 minutes of trying to figure out how to get service, we decided to go over to Kelly O'bryans where we were served promptly and left a hefty tip. I must say though, it does feel like we weren't served because we were just too brown, as my white friends rather enjoyed their service. Either way, we will never try this place again, it was terrible service.

I remember this place being a good one. Decent view being it's on the boardwalk at New West Quay. My recent visit though wasn't so great. We waited quite a while before my hubby ended up getting a servers attention. I also saw one girl being a bit tough with people who had water bottles. Unless they had straight vodka in them I didn't see anything wrong with having them. And even though I saw dogs there early she told them no dogs. It was a young friendly dog and quite out of the way off to the side. I don't think he would've disrupted anything. So many people and their dogs already walking by wouldn't have noticed him there.

Super casual atmosphere and phenomenal fried chicken. The first time I went, I ordered the chicken fingers appetizer and to my surprise it came with fries! What a great deal. It was very filling. Last night I went back and ordered the fried chicken burger with a side of poutine and it was outstanding. Friendly staff as well. Can’t wait to go back and try other things.

The waiter provided extroardinary service. We approached with a wheelchair unsure of how to get in since the only accessible door said exit only. He noticed us and guided us in and sat us immediately. He answered questions about the local beers and was very attentive and friendly. The food was very good and well priced and timely. We had a lunch, food was great, really great, fresh and delicious. What struck me was the obvious effort and precautions to keep everything spotless, sanitized and guests kept at distance;I found this to be very comforting. Our server, Chad was polite, efficient and the lady, Brooke was equal to that. Both were great people, great environment and really great food. Definitely won us over in this time of COVID. 10/10

This morning we walked in to a mostly empty pub hoping for a greasy breakfast. The hostess (bartender) told us to sit anywhere and someone would be right over. We sat down and waited - No menus. We waited some more - still no menus, and no water. We waited some more - a server walked by our table and ignored us. Twenty minutes total we walked out of there. No one stopped us to assure us we would be helped momentarily. Again, the place was mostly empty. 5 people in the kitchen, 1 on the bar, at least three more servers. Note: there were also people who were there longer than us also waiting for menus.

When you’re told your dog can come with you it usually doesn’t mean you can go ahead and tie your dog up OUTSIDE of the pub railings on the hot concrete. We’ve been to so many places that allow dogs on the patio and this is 100% not one of them. Dogs aren’t allowed on the patio when that means having them tied out on the street. Yikes.

My boyfriend and I ordered beef dips to go. The little amount beef that was inside, was dry and flavourless. Looks NOTHING like the picture on their website and for 20$ a meal this is absolutely ridiculous. The prices have gone up on the whole menu and the food has gotten worse and worse. 10 years ago this place was amazing. Not so much anymore. Won’t be back.

Predictably, the place with all the bad reviews gets another bad review. As I’m sure is its entire business plan at this point, the pub is near the water. Seemingly, as was the case for myself, this is why people may ignore the reviews and hope for the best - let me tell you why you shouldn’t. Service was minimally attentive, and while the food is pretty typical, it would be great not only if the server wrote down orders if they can’t recall them, but also if at any point someone took some accountability for our experience. When we order a quesadilla with guacamole, chicken and no jalapeños, it would be cool if one of any of those things arrived as requested. Instead, we got orders with none of the above, and the server just blamed the kitchen and left without outlining any next steps - do we eat it, do we not? Eventually he returned with guacamole and no offer to re-do the items as ordered, only to provide chicken on the side. I said no to this, my friend said yes. Not only did their chicken never come, but I was also charged for chicken on my bill that I didn’t pay for and had to send it back and wait yet again. My friend couldn’t even eat her meal because it was so hot from the jalapeño oils (pretty obviously). We were both charged full price on all items and no apologies were made for anything. Mistakes happen, but wow - never have I received such a nonexistent level of customer service. You may want to try a little harder with a group that is staying next door for three weeks and would have utilized this establishment - guess we’ll be spending that money somewhere that cares to have our business.

A good old fashioned pub. It's great when you want to come down and have a bite to eat but not in a rush. Don't expect anything fancy. They cater to their clientèle which is probably why it's still the way it is. I still love this place though!

EXCELLENT salads and delicious "comfort-food" appetizers, decent prices. Large patio - right on the waterfront. Kids are not allowed in the pub area but there is a small indoor area as well as a large patio where families are welcome. The indoor "family room" is super tiny and needs a make-over in a big way - that would be my only complaint. Bring the kids on a sunny day and get a seat outside. We usually go to The Keg for special dinners but at the last minute we decided on The Paddlewheeler for a birthday celebration - I think we may have found a new favorite go-to place - the service and the food was very good! Love this place!

I've never written a restaurant/bar review online, however, after my second poor experience here I need to advise people that this is an awful choice to spend your time and money. This is one of those restaurants, who, without it's location on the water would experience a closure based on its service quality. From entry to exit -- service staff do not greet or treat you with a modicum of respect. "Fend for yourself" type of mentality. Terrible. I do not recommend at all.

This pub has a prime location right by the water, and with hot days finally here, it is jam-packed on Friday evening. I think that where you get seated affects your overall experience since inside it has a dated decor and that smell of a local dive bar. However, the patio looks much better and has fantastic views. The service was excellent, no complaints there. The drinks menu is pretty good and has a few Mexican bulldog type cocktails. The beer variety is pretty solid as well, and Trading Post's Raspberry Wheat Ale was a pleasant surprise. A letdown for was was ceviche, and we should've known better ordering it in the pub. The thing is, ceviche is a dish that is relatively easy to make, yet hard to put together without turning it into a super acidic non-salty mess, which happened here. It was very far from a pleasant experience, plus components where cut in very different sizes and some of them were way too big for their own good, and it's impossible to put something like that on a corn chip. I would remove it from the menu entirely. Overall, this place isn't bad as long as you sit outside and stick to more conventional bar food.

We sat down for 30 minutes and not one of the 3 waiters that were in our vicinity approached us. My boyfriend went up to the bar after 15 minutes of waiting to get 2 drinks and a menu. The bartender was lovely and served him quickly. Then we drank the drinks we got for ourselves over the next 15 minutes and still no one approached us to order food.....we left......

Asked the waitress for service and got a response of "I'm too busy for you", asked for the manager and got "we don't want to deal with your group right now". I will never recommend this place to anyone or will never come back. They're lucky gratuity was worked into bill because I would've never have tipped the rude waitress. Also, as for someone who is allergic to wheat, to make me pay $2.00 extra for an allergy and get 2 slices of lettuce when it's cheaper than a bun, is absolutely ridiculous. The rude staff make this a place to never want to go to or remember.

A great time, good waitresses, and a fun karaoke DJ to keep things interesting. The view is really nice too - very quaint and by the water. I highly recommend at least going for a walk in this area as it's very interesting. There's an old tugboat outside that's been re-done as a fixed attraction outside.

We waited over 1.5 hours for a simple appetizer to arrive. If you're too swamped every Friday to serve orders within a reasonable time-frame, hire another cook. Also, why have a "Home of the UFC" poster hung up when you guys literally never play the events? And apparently on a hockey night, Happy Gilmore is a better thing to have on all the TVs.

I love this pub! It’s always a great time, awesome beer selection, really tasty food and our server Jenn was fantastic. She was very friendly and very accommodating to all allergies and requests. My wife is a vegetarian and Jenn gave a lot of options for her to choose from. To top it off she was hilarious! We will definitely be back often. Wife and I drove from langley to go to this place. We showed up and ran into people we knew. We just went over to say hi and we were told we can't do that. Fair enough we asked for a table and the manager told us because we know somebody else in the restaurant we are not welcome. Yes that was the real reason. Because I happened to know someone we were not welcome. They said its to stop us from going and mingling with them, we obviously said we wouldn't and requested to sit on the end other the restaurant but they refused and just said because we know someone else in the restaurant we are not allowed to eat there. My wife and I regularly drive from langley to walk the new west boardwalk and we always go to the paddlewheel but after the other night I think we will be finding a new pub

I have two different opinions regarding the pub. The fish and chips were excellent. The clubhouse sandwich was also very good. However, the burgers were subpar, dried out and lacked imagination...perhaps, the cook/owner, should taste the food once in awhile before it gets away from them. Nice big, open patio right on the boardwalk - very nice during these COVID times and they seem to be implementing all the new safety protocols. The cajun wings were AMAZING - crispy, tasty and absolutely 100% grease free, possibly the best I've ever had. Our burgers and sandwiches were also really good, everything was fresh and flavourful. I'll definitely go back.

Absolutely horrible customer service! I would give zero stars if I could! The bartender was rude and down right and disrespectful. We waited more then a hour for our food and when I asked the bartender how long is it going to take for our food to come out.. He just gave us a smart remark "well it's not in front of you right now.." If you are looking for great service don't bother going to here! Trust me you'll have a much greater experience at "The Hub" or "Kelly O'byrne". Reading some of the reviews the Owner only replies back to customer that give them five stars.. as you can see you they don't care about the one star customers.. We were told to "grab a seat anywhere". We were never acknowledged for drinks, had to go to the bar and get our own. Food orders were taken almost 45 mins after we got there. Some of it arrived cold, greasy and shrivelled, some never arrived at all. I agree with an earlier poster, this place is an embarrassment for New West, especially in tourist season when this is the memory that people take with them. Either get new management that will care a little or sell and let something that better represents NW take over.

I wish pubs and restaurant would take a little time to learn about Gluten and what it means for a customer who is Gluten Free... I went for nachos after seeing Gluten Friendly on their menu online, only to find out its just another place that doesn't understand as they deep fry the taco chips in with everything else in the same fryer. This then makes it NOT GF and not edible for someone with a gluten allergy like myself. Disappointed and left :(

I'm only giving it two stars because of its amazing location. Based on the service, I would give it a minus 5000. The servers seem completely lost and clearly lack basic training. I should know. I worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years when I finally called it quits as an executive chef overseeing three highly acclaimed restaurants in Whistler BC. Which brings me to the food. Just don't bother. It's dated, 1980's style slop. Most of it premade in a Sysco factory somewhere. The only reason this place is in business is due to it's location.

Have been to this pub few times. It is a popular destination for New Westminster locals. Generally busy. Food is acceptable and reasonable priced. Customer service has been good each time. My only complaints or suggestions are: It desperately needs a make over or some renovation work. Second, bathrooms: If both doors are open, and typically they are, it is possible to get into the wrong bathroom. Also, the ladies one needs more maintenance. It tends to be dirty and messy. Last time I was there , there was someone changing clothes in plain view. The person did not look like she was a customer, a patron but rather someone that walked in to use the facility. It is an ok place to go for a drink on a nice summer day, seat at the patio, overlooking the river and people walk by.

The patio here is great and the spacing and separation seems to be good for covid protocols. The servers also wear masks and sanitize before seating guests. The service here is always great and they have the best beer battered french fries in town. Only short one star, because it would be nice if they had some more creative non-alcoholic beverage options (there are so many non-alcoholic craft "beers" and craft "liquors" available now), but that is just a personal preference.

Blonde middle aged waitress with dark roots was extremly RUDE. My friend and I were sitting on the patio(I came later) and the waitress came up to me immediately demanding for ID, not even a hi how are you or a please or thank you. Once I provided her with two pieces of ID (I wasn’t even planning on drinking) she asked me to move because my ID was expired. She kept loudly repeating that I couldn’t sit here and would have to move to a different part of the patio. Really? I just sat down and I’ve never been to your restaurant before, I don’t know you have designated seats just for people drinking? There are also hundreds of ways you can politely tell people that you can’t serve them or that they’d have to move to a different area due to the restaurants policy. Based off the reviews, it seems this restaurant takes this “imaginary line” between the “drinking side” and no “non drinking side” quite seriously although on the side we sat on, people were still drinking? I’ve worked in the service industry for years and never have I once come across a patio situation like this or a server like this... Thank god we got a much more pleasant waitress when we switched sections. Regardless, the entire time we were sitting on the patio the rude server had such a awful grin on her face like she hated her job. I get it, we all have terrible days but don’t take it out on people you just meet or maybe have your restaurant get a host to seat people properly so you don’t have to deal with this “imaginary line” issue.

The only thing good about this pub is the location and that they're dog-friendly on the patio. The food has been terrible on countless visits so I just don't order food there anymore. My chicken fingers were raw one time. The drinks are cheap but it seems like every time I order something on the drink menu they're out of it. One time I went through 3 different wines and 3 menu items before before finding something they actually had stock of. I'll be honest and say that I hope someone buys them out one day and opens a decent pub there because you cannot beat the location. I'd rate it 5 stars just for location and the size of the patio, shame the food and service are terrible :(.

Went the local Paddlewheeler Pub knowing we'd enjoy wings and a good patio. The three of us all ordered beers two came within 10 minutes but the third took at least 15 mins or longer and no suggestion of a glass of water while you wait. The same friend who waited for the slow beer ordered a burger (which they're known for) and it came almost raw. When the waitress confirmed it wasn't supposed to be rare she said we'll remake it. It never came... Needless to say the our friend wasn't happy and didn't want to pay for the beer or burger and they wouldn't comp the beer. Two thumbs down from three locals who will never recommend the Paddlewheeler or visit again. Such bad service. What a shame...

I stood waiting at the door and saw a miserable looking waitress or two look at me so they clearly realized I was there. Open till 11, last call for food at 930pm and there is nothing on the website that states this. If it's your first time coming here and looking for this pub it's a little hard to spot it out and no signs to state where the front entrance is either and it's very difficult to spot on a rainy evening when it's dark outside since the signs aren't lit up. You basically have to pay $6 for parking and walk around until you find this place and you wont get reimbursed to find all this out.

Nice place with a beautiful view. We came here for the 1st time 4 days ago and was disappointed with the service/organization in the restaurant. We sat down and after 5 mins a server saw us and I smiled to make contact; shortly after, another server saw us. 15 mins went by and we still didn't have any menus. So we moved to the bar and were quickly served, by the time we had our drinks and food ordered, we noticed the servers searching for us. Brooke at the bar was delightful and funny. It seemed like there was only 2 servers for the whole restaurant so I put weight on management for poorly organizing server sections and making sure they have the right amount of staff to properly accommodate customers and not overwhelm staff. We're calamari snobs and yours was delicious, first place we've been that serves enough dip to last the whole dish too.

Moved to New West a few years ago, when to the paddlewheeler then and the food seemed better and portions more generous. Over the years the menu has changed and selections are much more limited. Food quality also seems to have decreased. While I would certainly come to meet some for a drink, as the beer selection is good, the meals are overpriced for what you get. Service can also be spotty. However still a great location on the waterfront, and great place to hang out on a sunny evening in the summer.

I just ordered long island iced tea, but quality was poor. Very less alcohol and next order I ordered double but looks like I am drinking cola. Food is very good. They are very much hurry to wind up and when we are talking each other they cleared the table and place the bill fortunately they asked is there anything needed. Looks like if you are not order more we should leave even if we are not finish. Service is very poor and ridiculous. Not recommending to others.

Steak sandwich, really!! Store bought bread maybe a smidge of butter and garlic, no!! Steak was medium rare, but tough!! Then fries, talk about anemic plating!!. No sauce, no greenery, boring!!

Uncaring haughty attitudes from the bartender/owner man as well as the server girls - none of whom had any courtesy to greet or even offer a seat to my obviously tired senior parents and offhandedly told us to sit wherever we want and don't expect any service for over 15mins !!! Poor enviro/ambience for an establishment in this decent exciting part of the NW city - needs a revamp/refresh maybe starting with management!? ... what a let down it would be to any tourists to the area ?!?!

Pleasantly surprised by this pub The drink selection was very good - could have a few more craft beer options on tap but had a wide variety of delicious cocktails. The food quality was also very good and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and prompt.

I went with my family to have a nice dinner on sept 7th at about 7pm and the mgr on duty was just horrible.. as soon as we came in she yelled at us to go outside as we couldn’t be standing there... she then realized she was wrong as the host had called us to come in cause the table was ready... she never apologized and was just complaining... horrible horrible customer service by this so called mgr. maybe she should stick to scheduling and doing inventory... totally not going back

I'm so happy that the Paddlewheeler Pub has reopened. BEST ADVICE get their earlier, give your name and phone number then enjoy walking the Fraser River or seeing the stores in the area. You can't get a better view at any bar in New West. It's good pub food with a good beer selection.

Nice Quayside stop to unwind in. Was pleasantly surprised to see craft beer offerings, especially one or two I didn't expect to find there. Kalamari was excellent - fresh, and bright thanks to the hit of lemon. Avoid the pickle chips. Absurdly thinly sliced pickle coins that were overly oily from too much batter.

Great view of the sunset over the river. Funky pub vibe inside with a pretty decent menu and nightly specials. Wait staff were friendly and helpful and accommodated a large group easily. Nice for a quick drink.

Disappointing meal at the Paddlewheeler tonight. Although it’s hard to complain when their menu is $9.95, if they don’t serve you what you ordered then I feel it’s justified. First the margarita I ordered was so tart and sour, probably one of the worst margaritas I’d ever had. Our young waiter never came around to ask how my drink tasted. I ordered the Chefs clubhouse sandwich specifically for the spicy candied bacon (which I have had before and is delicious) but this time there was regular bacon on it. When the server finally came over to check on us, I told him about the bacon, to which he went to ask what happened, but said because I ordered my bacon crispy (which I do every time) they put regular bacon on. I told him the candied bacon was the only reason why I ordered that sandwich. Nothing was done to rectify my meal.... I would have been happy if he would have brought me a side order of the candied bacon but no, nothing was done. I feel if they are going to change an item in my order that they should tell me first before they do it, instead of thinking its ok? I won’t be back again. Poor service, terrible drink and disappointing tasting sandwich.

Frys and calamari were good but nachos had no care at all the cheese was at the top of the hill of chips and the chicken strips was all breading but worst of all they water down the drinks im a light wait I had like 7 shots and 3 alcohol drinks and I had the smallest buzz and it was like that for my hole table one girl think there was no alcohol at all im lening that way myself just a rip off and sadly it kinda killed the mood for my best friends 19 birthday celebration oh and the tried to have us pay for drinks we never got and had to redo the check 3 times
