Great Service. Friendly Staff. Good menu, mom's lemonade is delicious, the wine and unwind wasn't too bad. I loved their fish and chips. A much larger piece of fish than I was expecting.
Been to this restaurant twice. Loved it both times. Once was for a work event that was well presented and the other time was with friends and everybody loved their dish.
Other diners in my party were equally satisfied with their choices, Picaroons and otherwise.
Very tasty food and good service
Ethan was incredible, one of the best bar tenders we've enjoyed in a long time. Great beer, awesome food, and a great space! Stop in and feel like you're from the neighborhood!
Great food great atmosphere
A bit pricey for standard pub food, dinner menu is of higher quality dishes. Nice atmosphere and location.
Great food. Live the chicken fingers!!! The taps are among my favorite in Saint John . Lots of taps with great selections .
Good selection, great taste, quick and friendly staff.
Amazing meal and fantastic service! Happy to be able to sit in the restaurant again!
My kind of bar. Great beer list, freshly prepared food (fish and chips were great) and slightly sarcastic service at the bar, as it should be.
Friendly staff, excellent food.
Chowder was delicious. My wife has allergies and they were happy to modify the menu. Our server was really knowledgeable and polite. The selection of local beer was impressive. Will definitely go back
Went there yesterday for my second and last time. A plate of overcooked kettle chips with barely a sprinkling of what looked/tasted like canned chicken and a pint of some Trailway beer came to $35 before tip. Now I'm no cheapskate but the prices at SJAH are notorious all over NB (look at the steak price!), and $16 for kettle chips is literally insane. And then to charge $5 to add what they call "chicken" was a slap in the face. No wonder their patio was the only empty one on the boardwalk.
Chris is an amazing server and knows his sales skills! We arrived 40 minutes before close with a party of 11, it was a little slow starting but after a quick apology from Chris we knew they weren't ready for us and completely understood. The food was impeccable, taste, temp and wait time was superb. I will make sure to come again and recommend to everyone I know. Thank you again for a wonderful experience.
Great selection! Beautiful location! East coast food and culture radiate brightly from this classy ale house
Good service and seafood, especially periwinkles
Great eats. By the water. Live music. What else you want?
Great food! Friendly service! Dog friendly (on the patio)! Great selection of beer! And again....great food! Food is pricey but it was really good. If we ever come to Saint John's again we will stop here!
Atmosphere and service were great food was pricey and just ok
Stopped in on a rainy day to dry out and grab some lunch. Salads were very good, with fresh ingredients and lots of care in preparation. Service was friendly. Nice window looking out at the harbour. Not a bad spot at all.
Was a good meal. Service was great. It was such a beautiful day to eat outside on the patio. We were also entertained by a local singing on the stage. Then finished it off with a Beacer Tail dessert! ????
Ate here on Saturday night and it was delicious! The service was exceptional and the food was unbelievable. Fresh, local ingredients. The Saint John Ale House is my favorite place to eat in Saint John. Highly recommended!
Food was awesome so was the service by Ryan
Very impressed with this restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly. They allow dogs on the patio area. Highly recommend. I had the fish and chip picture included, the fish took half of the plate.
Great food and very good beer!
I have only had appetizers here with a few beer but all the apps I have tried have been very good. The apps change all the time but the smoked mackerel and periwinkle's were very good.
Great food and great service!
The 8oz market cut steak was utterly divine and the coffee cheese cake was the best dessert I’ve ever tasted. ????
I have never written a review before bur I felt compelled to do so after last evening at the Alehouse. My girlfriend, who is deathly alergic to seafood suffered mild reactions(swelling of face/ difficulty breathing) from meerely sitting at a table and having a drink; this tells me either they do an exeptionally poor job cleaning their tables, or they do not wash their glasses. Needless to say we had to leave suddenly to get fresh air. On top of this the Server was unpleasant, acted like we were doing him a favor by being there. The only reason this gets a star is that she enjoyed her cosmo-.- however I do not recomend the place.
Incredible experience. The Food was clearly conceived and executed by a talented Chef and kitchen staff. Chris was our server and is a great asset to this establishment. He was very knowledgable and passionate about the incredible variety of beers on tap he could offer and the food he recommended to us. We will be returning often for the food , the beer , the atmosphere and definitely for the Quality Staff.
Server and cook staff modified meal without hassle. Friendly staff. Halibut was not over cooked and had a nice crust. Scallops were seared nicely. Wide selection of unique beers on tap.
amazing service, great food, awsome staff !
Ale house is a great spot to go out have a few beers. Also great restaurant for families.
Another local favorite. The Ale house focuses on showcasing local ingredients with an artistic yet uncomplicated flair. A great spot for two or a group.
Tons of atmosphere and great food!
Great service and lots of local craft beers ????????????????????
Different menu, not much on it but good. Nice relaxing atmosphere and friendly servers.
Might be biased, but best beer & eats !!
Wonderful service. Burgers were amazing (they grind their own meat), fries were on point and the Gravy was flavourful. Nice interior.
Hard to get served at the bar during the weekend, especially at power hour.
Great service great food. Can't go wrong
Everything was good , from the drink to the dessert . Will recommend to everyone and we will come back next vacay ????
The live music was great, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and the appetizers were good. Everything was reasonably priced. Service was also good, the faster you come, the more beer we can buy :) Will definitely check this place out again.
good varied menu, great wait staff and delicious food. the deep fried pickles are a family favourite and the grilled salad is a new fav!!! the outdoor patio is a great option in the summer. good food, good drinks and right there on the boardwalk.
Amazing food!!! Their seasonal mojitos are amazing.
A place to be! This place has friendly staff. The good it wonderful with every taste, It's nice and a clean environment
Good food. Great atmosphere with very friendly staff. Lots of beer and cider on tap options. A little dessapointed with the size of the appetizers. Love that the menu is divided by categories (vegetarien, fish/seafood and bird/beast). A little too expensive to my liking but it's makes for a good night out.
Love the location of the restaurant/bar. Our server was a sweetheart so kind. I had an amazing local beer ( nothing better then tasting stuff from around when going on a vacation.) The food was on point!!! Everything came from the province witch made it that much more on point. The prices where decent. Totally worth the stop????
Delicious chicken wings with great local craft beer!
The food and service was excellent. The steak, hamburger and beet goat cheese salad was very tasty.
After a long drive from Nova Scotia to Saint John I came in for a simple dinner and a drink which turned out to be one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had with really fresh sea food. However what made my experience truly exceptional was the server. Alisha was not only the most attentive and proffesional server I ever had but went above and beyond when the kitchen wasn't able to accommodate a meal for my puppy. She went all the way to Tim Hortons to ask them for turkey so my little guy could have some food. She also really surprised me with her extensive knowledge of the beers and after talking about my preferences for a little bit she picked out a flight so good that I couldn't decide which drink I preferred more. I would highly recommend the SJAH to anyone and make sure to ask for Alisha for an exceptional service.
Fantastic place to meet up with an old friend and grab a bite to eat and a point
Stopped in for lunch and it was top shelf. They really nailed cooking the burger, a lot of places dont ask how you want your burger cooked but i got mine rare and they did it perfectly. Beer selection was great with a lot of local stuff and the bartender Christian was super friendly and really knew his stuff about the beer. Looking forward to getting back soon
Good place to eat. Nice menu, nice beers, kind staff. Nothing crazy expensive nothing overly amazing. A solid place to eat and meet friends.
The food was terrific! Sadly, the service wasn't great, but we would still return.
Food is pretty good. I do love the selections though. The beer selection is next level. Pricing is around others locally. The patio is great for the summer especially with the bands playing.
The best fish and chips I have ever eaten! My family went for a lovely supper at the Ale house. I love that the menu changes with what is available seasonally and showcases New Brunswick drinks and food.Highly recommend the food and the service was fantastic!
Best place in town for any occasion whether your out drinking with friends or trying to enjoy a nice dinner date. The selection of local ingredients they use is pretty amazing.
This place never disappoints. There's a beer for every day of the month, and a menu of fresh and local foods prepared perfectly. The staff are always happy to share their knowledge of every drink and menu item.
Excellent service. Adele and Ryan are amazing.
Love SJAH! Great service, great food and a beautiful patio!
Food was delicious, drinks were cold, the employees were pleasant and attentive and helpful. Everything was well organized
Can’t say enough about this place. Great spot, great staff, great owner. Unique and familiar menu selections and a great selection of draught beer. Love the local/maritime flair. Cheers and thank for a great experience.
Great scallops and live music was great!
Surprisingly unexpected. Service was outstanding. Waiter had the perfect recommendation for us from the menu and off menu. This was the best chicken finger crisp sandwich. For the location not overly expensive.
It was nice place. I loved the beams and the factory atmosphere. Food was ok the waitress was 10/ 10.
Lovely place with many choices of local beers. Friendly and nice staff.
The chicken tenders and fish and chips were fresh and delicious. The gravy was too peppery and the server did not mention that it was extra $ for the gravy. It was the only place with an open kitchen at 10pm.
A let down considering the acclaim of their chef. We got nachos; which had what appeared to be just a handful of low quality cheese. The potatoes used as chips where floppy and greasy. My main course was another appetizer in the form of a tater tot poutine. My faith in Jesse was belied considering these tater tots were from frozen and the gravy over them was also cold by the time I was served this meager portion. The coffee was good. All of the items were over priced in my opinion.
Just had the prime rib and cheesecake. While the meal was pricey it was so we'll prepared as to be a good value. Was there early in the evening and service was efficient, friendly, and all around excellent. The kitchen staff lived up to their reputation on this meal. I will definitely go again.
Great drink and food. Good place to visit. Good atmosphere
An amazing highlight from my visit to Saint John! One of the best dining experiences I had in Canada, this restaurant is a must go. My server was super friendly and attentive. The drinks were pricey but good, and most importantly the food was delicious! The salmon was super tender and the fish and chips were some of the best I've ever had. I highly recommend this place!
Have a bunch of beers on tap which I really like. The prices were a little steep. Ordered clams and fries and they gave us a pretty big portion where me and my dad shared. Love the location and the service there.
Yummy food, great atmosphere and service
Great meal, great staff. The favours were amazing. Highly recommend.
Nice atmosphere, Service was slow, food was not prepared very well
Had the chicken power bowl and a red Ale both were great. Server was really nice, very helpful answering our questions. My wife's fries arrived cold, told the server and she returned with fresh hot fries. It's a pretty cool trendy spot to eat and have a drink.
Nice fried haddock, good size portion. Some menu items were not available.
The food was top notch. The fries are amazing. Wide selection of local beers on tap. Service was exceptional.
A few time we had great service and great food. Last visit was terrible. Steak was not as expected and also they forgot everyone side order. Great place in the summer If you can sit outside. Really love there Ceasar.
Somewhat disappointing. The meal started great with the appetizers - crispy pork bites, salt & pepper wings, and duck confit poutin. As for the mains, my brother-in-law said the lobster risotto was good. For the scallops pasta, some of the smaller scallops were overcooked. The pasta was also too soggy and clumped together. The ribeye was the biggest disappointment. We ordered rare but it turned out to be medium to medium well. The steak was also drowning in Bordelaise sauce which was very salty. ????
Service was good, but for the price the food was awful!
Great patio space, lots of beer selections. The ocean breeze is perfect on any summer day
Excellent choice of beers, good atmosphere, and friendly staff
Ordered the cheese burger. Tasty. Big selection of beers. Outside patio that allows dogs. Good service.
Always great food. Always great service. I always make a point of going when I'm in Saint John
Very limited menu. Expensive for what you receive. I am not a beer drinker so maybe thier wide selection of ale would make up for that with others. The fact that while I was talking to friends the waiter reached over and took my plate before I finished my meal is the reason for the two star rating. Never had a restaurant staff just take my plate without making sure I was done. It was a trainee but even so that is not acceptable. Food was not bad though and hopefully I just had an experience that is not normal for the restaurant.
Great service awesome beer. Had the mussels and they were among the best I've had
Great service, great food and great entertainment!
Excellent selection of beer and tasty food.
I always enjoy my visit in here! The Kettle Chips with chicken added are the absolute best ever!!! I make it my monthly treat!
Expensive but generally a good time. Huge beer selection at a primmium price.
No veggie protein options, I had a beet salad and the beets were soggy/soft
Service was great, outdoor seating with live music was pleasant, & the Haddock fish and chips was delicious! Highly recommend & will definitely be back.
Super friendly staff, helped us make our ferry reservation on time by getting our order to us quickly. Decent kids menu, great local beer selection, fantastic beer and goat cheese salad, and a stylish, comfortable dining experience.
Great food and drinks as always! Please anchor your umbrellas though ;-)
This was our first time but we were brought there by friends who had been there a few times. My wife ordered the chicken fingers that were supposed to be very good but when the got to the table they were dry and over spiced. Kind of a disappointment.
We had a party of 16 and they were able to impress us all. Excellent food!!
Ale House is back baby! The patio is one of the best on the boardwalk. Sun's out, pints out!
Good service and great food!
Service was excellent and the food was amazing
Great location and wonderful staff but the food was awful My hamburger tasted like it was from a frozen package and the large dish of deep fried clams was horrible. All this plus drinks cost over $100. Worst meal of my two weeks in the maritimes. Sorry but I waited until my trip was over to submit this review.
Fan barkeep Great beer
I am a regular at the Saint John Ale House. It is my go to restaurant when I have visitors from out of town. The service is friendly and professional. On my last trip, the waitress' knowledge of the beer selection was excellent. I opted for a seasonal microbrew from near by Fredericton. We had lobster rolls all around. Although pricey it was worth every penny. It was a huge portion of lobster surrounded by local everything. Bread was local, mayo was house made and the greens were from the chef's wife's garden. It was an exceptional lunch and I was proud that my Ontario guests were able to experience warm Maritime hospitality and delicious local food.
Fantastic food and great selection of beer.
As always, SJAH never disappoints. Not only is the food amazing but the service is first class. Saint John's best restaurant!
Lunch for five today was pretty awful... fish and chips was a hunk of overcooked batter with little fish inside to redeem it and my wife's beet salad with extra chicken was literally a bowl of beets and a piece of chicken so tough and dry it was borderline jerky, she did her best to eat about half of it before admitting defeat. Deluxe would have been a hundred times better for about a quarter the price... hindsight...
Good selection of ales and good food. Love being this close to the ocean.
Great food and a eco-friendly patio!
Love the local craft beer selection. Best beer and drink menu in Saint John. The menu is packed with fresh ingredients from New Brunswick. The bacon wrapped scallops are out of this world. Recently tried the grilled Caesar salad and was blown away. Service is consistently excellent. Very knowledgeable with the drink and food selection. Great atmosphere, food & drink. The perfect spot for a night out either in the dining room or the pub.
Service
Where to begin...Waiting over half an hour for a table we reserved, waiting another half hour for our server to greet us and take our drink order, then she dropped off our drinks and didn't return to take our food order until 45 minutes later! (By which point we all needed another drink) Couldn't even get any server's attention because they all purposefully kept their gazes on the floor or straight ahead, ignoring the surrounding tables. I've been a waitress for 4 years and there is absolutely no excuse for this level of poor service. The food wasn't bad (when we finally got it!) but it was definitely NOT worth the wait. I'd give this restaurant negative stars if I could.
Great food. I had phenomenal day
Same building as the NB Museum ( also 5 stars). Stopped after to wet whistle. Chris at bar selected two awesome flights for.my wife and I based on a couple of tastings. Chris is friendly, knowledgeable about beer and the area and easy to engage.
I asked for a vegan salad and I got a very tasty one. Thanks chef!!
My favourite spot to go, I'm there almost everyday!!
Terrible customer service during the beer fest on June 30, 2018 asked to purchase a couple cans of pop and server refused to sell the pop and said it is for the mixed drinks. So decided to go down to peppers and they sold me to cans no hesitation. Won't be buying from Saint John Ale House for quite a while now.
The food is mediocre at best. The prime rib dish we ordered was a mess, bitter popover, overcooked beef, and grainy mashed potatoes. The fish and chips we ordered was literally a fried flour stick, for around $20 you get soggy fries and ONE piece of fish. AND! You know what's even more surprising? Their grilled caesar salad was literally a WHOLE LETTEUCE! For over $10 I'm getting 1 whole letteuce and the least amount of sauce I've ever seen on a salad. Plus I asked for no cheese, but guess what? Cheese on top. Would give zero stars if I could.
Just giving a 2 because this place seems far too overrated. It's nothing special. It's not awful, but our experience just wasn't all that great. That said, the zucchini salad is fantastic! Everything else left a lot to be desired. Halibut was really expensive, and a nasty tiny portion that I had to return. First time in my life I've ever returned a food item at a restaurant. But couldn't justify the cost of what they tried serving. Mussels were okay. Not great, not horrible. But I kind of expect a bit more on terms of seafood in this lovely part of the World. It was a Wednesday and they weren't crushed, so that's not an excuse. One positive was the waitress who was excellent and attentive from beginning to end. Anyway, no one's going to read this. Just felt the need to do my part to lower the overall rating one hundredth of a point.
Great food in the heart of downtown. Live music on the community stage. But, tons of construction nearby, so prepare to park a few mins away.
3 of us. Had fish & chips and the lobster roll. F & C were good, not greasy. Roll is masive, enough for 2. Lobster fresh and well cooked. Good selection of beers. Service quick and friendly.
Decent food, a bit expensive for a pub.
Good local beers and nice sunny patio. Ordered an appetiser and it was basically a bag of potato chips for $15. Total garbage. Perhaps I just ordered poorly, but this should not be a menu item in any restaurant. So 4/5 for beer (they were out of a few menu beers but still solid selection), 0 for food. Total 2.
I feel like the Ale House was an old haunt for me for years, then I took a break and just finally rediscovered it. The food is fantastic, atmosphere is great and service is excellent. It’s back to being my go-to place for a meal out with friends. They easily have the best pub grub in the city, with a wide range of really creative main courses.
Great food and variety of beer
Perfect place for a late night drink for millenials.. great music from said erra.. ????
Had good food except the seafood chowder....should have been called potato broth.
Nice place with fresh local food and decent variety of drinks.
Good beer great food
Well established... The 'go-to-place' when you have friends and/or family in town... Service is impeccable, quality-price of food is affordable. Beets and goat cheese salad !!! Who would have known... It is the home of a true Canadian well knowned Chef.. Jesse Vergen... He is part of the Canadian TV show... Wall of chef. Fun to meet and talk to him...
We love the food and great environment
Good beer... Okayish service... Good food
Went there on a Friday at 530 with reservations for 2. I ordered the tater tot poutine to start. It could have used more of everything for the price in my opinion. For mains, I had the Caesar salad, which was very poorly dressed and bland. The other guest had the Pub club and fries. I tried what they couldn't eat. It was very dry and tasteless. I had higher hopes for this place. Very disappointed The guests in the booth behind us both returned their orders of Buttermilk fried chicken tenders because they were overcooked, just in case anyone thought I was being overly critical. Edit: I reached out to saint john ale house via email and got no response back. Seems like they don't care about making things right at all.
We ate here as our last meal in Saint John and it was a great send off! Had their scallop risotto and their chicken ranch burger. Both excellent choices. Eat out in the patio if you can!
The food is good but the servers have a bad attitude.
Food is good although not that many choices. Staff are very kind and service is nothing to complain about. Can't comment on drinks selection as I only has coke.
When 17 people show up for lunch you might expect it to take a while to get your order. But the staff was very friendly and helpful and the service and food was great.
Great food, service and scenery.
Awesome range of beers and fabulous staff knowledge. If you're after great craft beer in Saint John then this is the place for you.
The food along with the service and the great atmosphere was absolutely awesome as I got to experience this restaurant for the first time yesterday and visited once again today and I must say an absolutely amazing place to visit if you're in the area for dinner and a couple of great beers. Great food and a great team.
Great place for a pint and excellent food. Atmosphere ++. Enjoyed a nice walk on wharf afterwards.
Veey good food, great location.
Food was excellent and inexpensive. They have a nice list of local beers and wine to go with your meal and the patio during summer is absolutely perfect. If you're lucky, there might even be an event near by like country music fest.
Fresh seafood and pub options. Good view of the bay. Patio was big with umbrellas and shade.
Huge selection of taps, large portion are regular large scale lagers but they also have a big selection of craft brews.
The vegetable risotto was delicious! I added the grilled salmon to make it a full meal. The salmon was flavorful but a little dry. Had a side of grilled vegetables and mashed for my 3yr old. Both were delicious.
Food was delicious, we loved having our burger done the way we want it. Both burgers came out a perfect medium rare. Our server was Katy who was fantastic, and was happy to go over every beer on the menu! We will definitely be back when we are in town again.
Excellent food, great decor, friendly knowledgeable staff, couldn’t ask for more!! Fish and chips was superb!!!
Excellent food and atmosphere.
Had the Bay of Fundy Halibut and it was solid.. but pricey. Service was very slow.
I really enjoy the redesigned space and the menu improvements. The menu has a lot of quirky choices mixed in with some classic favorites so there is opportunity for a bit of adventure. The beer selection is top notch. Try the Moosehead Cask Ale!
They have the best salt and pepper wings I have ever had and I am from Toronto!!!
Darn good comfort food and excellent selection of beer. The waiter was very nice, quick and funny. We had a view of a country festival scene. Decently priced too.
The food is all right but the menu is very limited. The beer selection is good but drinks are slightly overpriced. Not a great value for the price
A bit pricey but food and service is great. Love that they switch up the menu even though i often just get my old favourite: kettle chips with chicken added
Great selection of beer and delicious food.
Great food and super friendly service
Meal type
Great food and timely too.
Great selection of beer. we had mooselight raddler, a blueberry beer, and a great cider too. Attentive friendly server. I had the chicken fingers that we're featured on food network's "you gotta eat here" and they were so good, juicy chicken and we'll seasoned batter with a dip with a kick. My fiancee got the fish and chips I had a bite and it was very good. Would go back.
The building itself is very nice and the service we had was good considering we had a large group of 35 people. The beer selection and the staff's knowledge of the beers was great. I ordered the Brook Trout with rice as a side. That was where it went wrong. I expected some pin bones as it was a fresh water fish but with every bite I faced a pin cushion. The rice was plain and was burnt. The vegetable side was peas (in the pod) beans and carrots. The peas made for an adventure in chewing and I ended up having to discard them as inedible. Presentation was average. Overall would not recommend that particular dish. I could have prepared a better dish at home for a lot less. Girlfriend had a cup of chowder which was awesome. I was a little disappointed as the food on paper looked really good but it failed to launch.
Dine in
The chicken was burnt and bitter, service was great but the food wasn't good
Beautiful restaurant, service was exceptional. The menu system is genius, and so eco friendly! I definitely recommended stopping by if you have the time.
Great food-upscale pub food - great local beer!! ???? and nice atmosphere. In process of renovations but still a nice spot that will only get better. Will definitely eat there again the next time we are in Saint John.
Most delicious organic burger!!! Love the huge beer selection and locally sourced ingredients. Always my go to spot for a night out .
Everything was awesome including the staff...asked our server Gabriel for a recommendation for a good dark beer and his suggestion was spot on. Great ambiance and even better food
Have visited multiple times, the patio is great in the summer and they have a variety of beer to choose from! Enjoy your visit :)
Awesome food! Super impressed!!!
Cool place. Pretty waitstaff. Lots of different beers.
Absolutely everything that ended up on our table was delicious. Fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly service too!
Great choice of beers. Try a flight of beer!
Only stopped in for a drink looked like a nice spot.
Unforgettable views, lively atmosphere and great food. The staff are super friendly and the location is phenomenal. Sit on the patio and enjoy a pint of local brew!
Horrible fish and chips, beer was good and server was annoyed with my questions! Won’t be back…
Some of the best pub food we've ever had! Awesome sever too!
Rich yummy food and large portions
Good quality meals and service. Not cheap but the quality reflects the price.
Great food. Service was great. Food was delicious.
Steak was really tough. Prime Rib sandwich was good. Service was below average.
Amazing steak! Love the food and the local beer! I will definitely come back to this place every time that I visit Saint John! Highly recommended!
Good food and a great selection of beer!
Friendly service, 21 (i think) local beer on tap and casual... If I'm ever in the St. John area again, will come back
Great food!
We had English haddock fish with salad that didn't like it because the fish fried and salad were trestles. Our waiter was nice. We will not go back to this restaurant.
Fries were the best ever tasted.
Loved the food, beautiful views.
Be advised if your using American currency this establishment did not convert from American to Canadian currency. They treated $40 American as if it was $40 Canadian. In essence they took the liberty of keeping $10 American on a $37 bill. Do not advise patronizing this establishment if your from America.
The seafood chowder was excellent. Very good service.
Expensive for what you get. The charcuterie and cheese plate for two was too small for 25$. They have a nice view and a great patio however.
The service was friendly and the food was very good. We split the prime rib sandwich. It was sliced prime rib, and savory gravy served open faced on a Yorkshire popover. Delicious.
Very nice & great food menu:-)
Wonderfull staff and food is amazing. View is beautifull also.
Great place along the pier....live entertainment, great food and service.
Great service and food. Excellent beer selection
Great wings and fries!!
Tried scallops two ways, the sashimi with black garlic aioli was incredible. The bacon wrapped were also very good. Also had fish & chips, both were cooked really nicely and not soggy or greasy. We had an order of smoked mackerel and we liked it but didn't like the crostini served with it- they were just too hard and flavorless. My husband had a beer flight and enjoyed all 4 beers he had. Service was friendly and efficient. I would recommend eating here and would return if in the area.
Good appetizers, especially the cheese board, just a little over priced though, and the best selection of craft beers in Saint John.
Prime rib sandwich and pump house radler ftw!!!
Crispy Smelts, burger & buttermilk chicken; all presented with tremendous flavour and friendly service. Very enjoyable experience.
Excellent burger and beer. Great service.
Food was delish. Service very good though server was a bit pushy at times. This place hurt my wallet big time. $120 before tip for 2 people, and 4 brews?
Great food and excellent selection of craft beers.
Nice and downtown ????
Get the chicken fingers and the mussels. Why? Just do it. They're amazing. If anyone asks, some guy on the internet told you to try them.
Beer battered haddock....its ok......the grease soaked fries I just tried to force down....grosse...not a $16 dollar plate. Delux has better quality!
One of the best restaurants in the maritimes
Good option of beers and appetizers but the mains can be a little pricey. A beautiful view of the boardwalk and an opportunity for live music.
OMG The food was great!!!
Slightly above average food at slightly above average prices. Hard meh from me
It could be better. They try to source local foods, which is great. But not everyone likes beets.....
Kinda pricey for the quality of the food. The burger was nothing great
Had the molasses salmon, very tasty and good service!!
Friendly staff and great location. Food was on the expensive side. I ordered the Diablo burger which was intended to be spicy however it locked any real spice it was supposed to deliver.
I'm a bit late in posting this.... My Aunt and I were looking on Google for some Vegan/Vegetarian friendly Restaurants open the day we were uptown. Google told us that you had a Black Bean Burger, so we decided to give it a try. We came to find that Google was an old photo and you no longer had the burger. The waiter (Rob I believe) offered to see what the kitchen could do for us. He came back to say "How does a pimped out Quinoa Salad sound?" We both thought that would be awesome! The salad came and I swear it was one of the best looking and tasting salads ever! I explained to the waiter after how appreciative we were to them for going that extra mile to get us some lunch. We have walked out of so many other restaurants because they had nothing on the menu to work for us. We give you HUGE KUDOS and 5 stars for going that extra mile to make us feel welcomed and leave feeling happy and satiated!
Place is clean , staff are friendly and accommodating. Our food was incredible, had the crab spinach dip appy, chips were perfect , dip was amazing ! For our main we had the ceaser salad with homestyle chicken , scallop risotto and the haddock and chips but we subbed for veggies. The food was cooked perfectly and all tasted amazing . Our server Kaitlyn was very friendly and kind and made us feel very welcome ! We will definitely be coming back and recommend eating here !
Good selection of both food and ales with a waterfront setting . Should be suitable for most tastes.
Awesome food and view!
Great place, nice staff, awesome atmosphere!!
Food is only average nothing special and not as described on the menu
The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks.
Service was decent, but IMO quite over priced for the quality that you get. Fairly good beer selection, but not outstanding. Probably won't go back.
Great atmosphere on the boardwalk. The burger was delicious and staff was friendly. We were there on a Saturday around 2:00pm and wasn’t super busy but the food did take a little while to arrive. Only other nitpick was that interior of the restaurant was extremely hot. To the point of discomfort for sitting outside is a must (which was fine by us as that’s what we wanted anyway). Great food, great boardwalk atmosphere. Recommend.
Excellent and varied menu, superior service and a huge collection of fine local craft beers. Love it! And what a great harbour view.
Knowledgeable & friendly staff, great food and service. Always leave the hotel and go wander because you'll find gems like this.
Very friendly staff and great bartenders. Food was tasty, but not amazing. Both of us had the steak, which were very fatty cuts (medium and medium rare). Lots of craft beer on tap and excellent Caesar’s! Over all, recommended!
Friendly pub atmosphere with great beer!
Lots of interesting menu options. An elevated pub experience. Great wine list to go along with all the beer options.
Good food. Atmosphere good. Prices a little steep. $80 for a couple appetizer, 2 beer and 2 virgin drinks. That's after tip and tax, so not awful but on the higher end for what it was.
Nice servers!
Typical customer ordering their fish and chips.Deep fried to perfection.Service was friendly and fast.Ate on patio so did experience my meal cooling off quicker.Enjoyed the outdoor entertainment at the same time!
Might have been a result of the COVID crunch because the lack of staff made the service extremely slow… and they had a shortage of wings and yellow mustard of all things. We ate at around 8pm and it appears that there was only one hostess, busser, and waitress managing two floors of patrons. While they were nice, it took too long for everything. It was a damp foggy day and the patio was empty (the poor guy was singing on stage to no one, but his gf)—it,s not like the boardwalk was packed. Meal breakdown: Tot poutine - very good Burger & fries - for the most part the burger was ok, but over cooked and a tad dry. The best part was the bun. Fries were solid. Fish and chips - fish was nice and moist, and the batter was light. The chips were way too salty… and this is coming from a guy who loves cooking with salt. Would I eat there again? Probably not because there’s a half dozen other places to try within 50 feet. And how do you run out of yellow mustard and wings?!
Good drinks and fries
Awesome, awesome food and awesome, awesome wait staff!
I had the best meal of my life! It was comfortable and the service was beyond great. Thanks Ryan for your great service. Will definitely recommend and return.
Honestly neither me or the person that I was with felt that the quality of food, and dining experience was even close to worth the price of the food. Small menu, incredibly expensive and the music was so loud that we needed to raise our voices significantly to converse. This would be ok if it was a bit later, but it was only 6pm. We were not offered condiments or basic spices such as SALT AND PEPPER. Overall it just wasnt a great experience.
Great selection of beer's.
Superb atmosphere, food & drink good. Had a great time drinking fine ales & listening to some great live music.
Great food. Service left a little to be desired, considering it wasn't super busy.
The food was excellent and the service was good
Pretty good food. Buy one get one free drinks after 9pm...
Wanted to treat friends to a great meal. How wrong we were to go to the Ale House. I had the fish and chips. My fries were cold and burnt and couldn't put my fork through them so I left them on the plate. My brother ordered a steak. Whoever plated the meal did not add potatoes or vegetables. The potatoes eventually showed up. My brother would have liked a steak knife instead of a butter knife. It was quite embarrassing especially after we had bragged up this restaurant so much. I give it a second star because the fish was okay. We won't be back.
Ordered their chop chop special about a month ago , they were out of everything that we wanted but we eventually settled for chicken fingers and seafood casserole I believe. The food was good but we were disappointed because we were unable to order what we wanted. Also the waitress was too overbearing, she kept coming up to us like every 5 mins and tried to take my plate before I even finished, seemed kind of disorganized but the food was quite good so we ordered again tonight on SkipTheDishes. I got the steak sandwich it wasn’t very good... I barely ate half of it. It was just a loaf of bread with gravy mushrooms and thin pieces of steak which reminded me of roast beef. My girlfriend got the chicken club sandwich which she liked. The mashed potatoes were pretty good as well. The peppercorns throughout the gravy turned me off though. We also ordered both of the deserts they had. Also quite disappointing. Almost 10 dollars for a little piece of cheesecake that wasn’t very good. We spent about 100$ and I would rate my food 3/10 my gf said a 7/10 so she was happier than me lol. Oh also we got the spinach dip which wasn’t too bad and the chips were delicious!
Always tasty, great place on the boardwalk!
always a great go-to place when looking for good food. The peeps are nice as well.
Came in last night before SJ Wine Fair. Place was alive....service and food fantastic!
Good service, good beer, but the food is overpriced
My sister ordered us supper off of skip and the chicken pub club I received was really burnt. The burnt chicken was the only thing not cooked properly as my sister's order and her boyfriend's were fine. All I can taste is burnt chicken.
Great ambient and staff. Good local beer selection.
Good food. Fantastic portion sizes.
Nice craft beer, tasty food, pleasant atmosphere, what else for perfect Friday night dinner?...
Good food! Lots great local beers.
Nice atmosphere, clean tables and good cold beer.
Nice ambiance, loved the brick walls. I'm sure the view is lovely but we got there after dark. I got the roast beef and mash and my husband got the chicken protein bowl. Both were very good. Prices are the same as everywhere else. Service was awesome and quick.
Nice atmosphere, good staff, good food, great beer!
Wonderful seafood chowder and appetizers lovely waitress, a very enjoyable experience while visiting New Brunswick from Ontario.
My burger was delicious and great service.
The food and service was amazing, as well as the live music nearby.
Really solid beer selection. Came here a couple of times.
As always the staff at the Ale House was awesome. Always love coming here. The free Kids meal during Orange Covid phase was appreciated..but honestly the food is always so good, fresh, and locally focused it wouldn't have mattered. My two young boys love picking their menu items and the fact the the kids meals here are NOT dinosaur frozen nuggets..but hand made chicken tenders, homemade local burgers, house cut fries..it's just something you don't see everywhere and big reason we eat here with our family. My Togaroshi spiced burger was unbelievable, unique, perfectly cooked medium ????????and somehow the meat just tastes better than everywhere else (because it is ground local beef fresh ????). We will continue to be back because the service, food and location are the best in Saint John hands down.
Amazing beer selection (you can get a huge beer flight with them all!). Service isnt too bad and lots of seating!
The food was excellent and the service was good. Loved the patio with Buskers Fest on right now it's a lively spot.
Good food and good selection of beers. Staff was helpful and polite. Anything on the menu is worth trying.
Efficient service, great location. Highly recommend the kettle chips & the beet salad is off the charts fabulous.
The food was absolutely incredible, and the service matched it every step of the way. I will definitely be there again and recommending others to go as well.
Not the best judge. They were closing when we got there.
You always know what's in store when you go to the SJAH - great food & great service. Went to their Thursday wing night. Spectacular deal. Highly recommend the Ale House.
Great service, great beer. Very welcoming!
Great location. We sat outside on the fabulous patio. Our only compliant was that a glass of Jackson Triggs (low end wine) was $13, and they don't publish the prices on the menu. Really, $13?!
I have visited this location a few times and the food is great.
Had one of the best burgers here. Also have some interesting beers. I tried the blueberry ale and while I wasn't a big fan, it's still a pretty interesting take on an ale and worth a try.
Good food and a great selection of beers ????
Great beer selection and atmosphere!
Great place to watch the world cup!
I miss there real espresso brownies. They were soo good
Great spot. The staff are all really friendly and happy to talk about what's on the menu/what they recommend. I've been eating here a couple nights a week since September and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Brisket Donair ftw!
Awesome place for drinks and food.
Good spot but food and beer are expensive. It makes it harder to want to go back. In addition, it also smells like an old tavern.
Great time. Hockey. Great food and drinks. Perfect service.
The apps were fantastic, buy service was lacking. We went for the special BBQ menu and ordered wings and cheese dip which were fantastic. I opted for the burger off the regular menu for my main. It was burnt. We didn't see our waitress very much, no ask for drink refills no ask of why I'd only taken two bites of my burger when she did come by later. Atmosphere is nice and overall it was a good experience just a couple of little things otherwise I would probably rate higher.
We stop in here anytime we are in Saint John great food and service
Best burger I had in my entire life!!!! Service is ridiculously great!
Good food just a little pricey
Always a good atmosphere with kind and attentive servers! I'm only ever here for drinks so I can't talk to the food quality, but the drinks are wonderful!
Hands down some of the best food I've ever had. Our server Rob was awesome which made it even better!
Delicious, great food and vibe.
We only had their beer and they were nice. Food seemed nice but a bit overpriced.
Food is pricey and just okay. Salad was premixed earlier in the day so it was very soggy.
Quick service! Was a bit loud downstairs but a good ambiance.
Yet another great pub in SJ.
I went to the ale house today with my friends for lunch. As a bunch of girls we are already super annoying and our server was super chill and accommodating to all of us I think her name was Caitlyn if I remember correctly. The food was awesome the drinks were even better and Caitlyn definitely brought her personality to the table and made us all feel very invited to the ale house atmosphere.
Fish and chips were pretty good, but beers were way overpriced and the $14 salad was a joke. It was soggy and incredibly small (about 5-6 bites and it was gone).
Awesome service and really nice atmosphere. Beer selection is the best in the city :)
Great burger, waiter did a great job describing the beers and the menu.
This place is frustrating! The ambience and wait staff are lovely but the food is terrible and expensive! We had the prime rib and it was disgusting. I know the owners claim everything is locally sourced which is probably true but that doesn't guarantee quality. The, "prime rib" tasted and looked like the roast beef you get from Sobeys. The cheese on top tasted rubbery like the bagged cheese you get in the supermarket. The Yorkshire pudding tasted stale and burned and the gravy was bland. It also took our meals a long time to arrive which was weird because we were one of two small groups there. The washrooms are in a state of disrepair (stall doors that don't even close, missing signs, etc) and they were dirty when we dined. Our waiter was really friendly and sweet and so enthusiastic about the food. He sold us on the prime rib so we didn't have the heart to tell him how awful it was. At this point we have given SJAH three chances with enough time in between to leave room for improvement to no avail. I would not reccomend this place but I really wish I could, they just need to do better.
They have great food and the best steaks.
I keep giving the Ale House more chances to impress me but they just never do. The food is good and usually locally source but it's also expensive and while it is good, it's not great. I know a lot of people who love it here but I just don't feel the same.
Great spot to stop in for a beer or cocktail. I can't speak to the food but the craft beer selection is excellent! Friendly staff and great atmosphere.
I don't consider myself to be overly fussy about food but a friend and I decided to try the Ale house as we had heard good things The server was great but the shaved brisket with Yorkshire pop over and mashed potatoes was disgusting. Too salty the pop over was burnt the meal was called within three minutes and the lumpy creamy potatoes were not good at all The chef took Ziggy's sliced roast beef and tried to pass it off as beef brisket and threw some flavourless congealed gravy on top. I will never go back !!
I recently had the pleasure of eating at the Ale House with a small group. We were seated in a area where we could enjoy a guest speaker after our luncheon. The current menu was updated for a special BBQ week that offered in house smoked/BBQ items. The selection was varied and I absolutely loved my choice of the Smoked Turkey Club with Sweet Potato Salad. It was yummy. I did notice others who had the Fish and Chips and the Pulled Pork Donair. They were also enjoyed by my colleagues. Thanks the the Ale House for making my day!
Good times!
Food was awesome
Great service They took us in when they were full. Served us great food and drink all night long and we got out in time for our show.
Should be nicer. Given the price point, I was expecting tastier food. It was not bad but it was not interesting. The banquet bench was worn out with tears in it. Service was pretty good.
Great beer selection and tasty food. A little expensive for the food... I think you would consider this high end pub food... Regular pub fare with a gourmet feel. I make sure I drop in every time I am in Saint John. In the summer they have a great patio out on the boardwalk / harbour area.
Its good nice place
Great service and nice tasting food. The organic burger was very good.
I visited one evening and the food was bland. I revive a side of French fries thinking they served spice mayo with them, or that they were something special; they were plain and flavourless. Our server couldn’t have sounded any more disinterested. There is a old, glass cooler, as soon as you walk in, with pig legs and meat hanging. Maybe they think this represents fresh, but it’s just Strange and an eyesore. The positive side is that they are on the boardwalk and have nice large windows for people watching.
Food was good, service was quick, efficient helpful and friendly.Very pleased overall.
Meh. Food was very salty & otherwise unremarkable. Way overpriced for the quality.
Best ceasar salad I ever ate: whole bacon strips & grilled salad.... and what to say about the crab dip tasting like heaven. It’s a biiiig plate, I took it as a main dishe and didn’t finish it! Thanks
Great place to hang out for some drinks with Amazing food and service.
Got the pub club and a keiths and it was amazing! Only complaint is the bread was a bit over toasted, but it was still delicious and the service was great. Will definitely be back!
We reserve a table at 7P.M. when we arrive, it was full and the greater was rude.
Beautiful, delicious and affordable!
As an American, I find this place offers a terrific introduction to the flavors of the Maritimes. The periwinkles and fiddleheads are a few of our favorites. We appreciate their extensive beer selection and often order a beer flight since we can't just choose one. I recommend this place if you are trying to experience local flavors!
Good food, plenty of beers on tap, nice atmosphere. A little on the expensive side.
It was $29 + tip for two drinks...
Great tasting food and nice people
I stopped by on my way into town, craving some Fish and Chips for takeout and the the SJAH did not disappoint. The service was friendly, and the food was even better.
Stopped in for the 3 course chop chop dinner. Was amazing to say the least!
We ate outside on a nice October afternoon and really enjoyed ourselves. Food was good (burger and fish & chips) but there were too many customers for the wait staff. The fries were great but I don't know how they ever sell a dessert with the quantity they give you.
The food, atmosphere and the hospitality is amazing ❤
As a celiac it's incredibly hard to find places that have good food that is celiac friendly and i was actually surprised. This place had the best steak ive had in awhile, the server really knew the menu and was very helpful and very cute might I add. Definatly worth a 5 star rating.
The chicken strips speak for themselves........amazing food and staff! Always a pleasant experience!
Good beer selections. Not many vegetarian options
Great food and beer selection. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and vey helpful.
Was their for a Mother/Daughter night out painting. It was fun and entertaining with lots of laughs and a great tasting drink too. Think it was called a Dave Matthews.
our server was a bit too casual, but the food was good and has an excellent selection of beer.
Stopped by and my husband had a few beers. He loved them. Atmosphere is great. Bartender was a down to earth guy who gave us tips on the area.
Great food, incredible beer collection, amazing hospitality and stuck amazing people
Food was ok. Not bad.
Food was pretty awful, appetizers are overpriced and low quality, the only redeeming factor they is the fries honestly. And although their beer selection seems good don't buy any of their other drinks unless you want a 12$ mug of ice.
Service from Kate was superb. Great food suggestions and great food.
Great food and Ale. Unique options. A great dining experience. A must on any dining destination list.
Good serves ,friendly foods pretty good
Sat on the patio with my friend and his son. Staff was very friendly and service was fast. This pub club with fries was amazingm will be back again as always
Excellent service and plenty of beers to choose from - wine list is pretty good as well. Good view from the patio with live music playing on waterfront stage
Absolute great burgers, only down side was price and didn't get everything we ordered. Will go back though.
Very nice and cozy restaurant, great staff and good food. The beet salad is huge and delicious!
Food was good. Little over priced for the portions. Service was terrible. Every waiter and waitress either mixed up something or dropped someones food while we were there. Asked for a glass of water and it was brought warm with no ice. ( apparently you have to ask for ice....?) Ordered a pop and it was warm with no ice. No refills, was charged $7 for two glasses of pop. Asked for a pitcher of water and was brought warm water in a glass container. Not a very pleasant experience.
Great food reasonable prices
My steak and chips was good but a little more done than I would have liked. My boyfriend was not happy with his fish and chips, he found it to be too heavily breaded. Lots of beer options. Overall well priced. Service was slow, the waiter seemed much more interested in talking to other people than serving us in a timely manner
Good beers, good food and friendly staff
Patio seating was awesome and the scallops were good, but the turkey was very dry and overcooked. Disappointing to say the least.
Good food but a bit over priced for a tourist spot. Maybe that's why it's over priced ????
Great patio overlooking harbor, and lots of walking areas nearby. Great food and good beer too:)
Outstanding customer service and an excellent menu. The St John Ale House will be our first stop next time we're back in town!
Great place to bring little ones for lunch. Sometimes you'll have a really bad bad playing music too loud but not SJAH fault. Great beer menu. Food is classic pub grub served professionally.
Food was good, live music at the harbourfront. Very dog friendly, they even bring a water dish for your dog.
Delicious food, amazing staff, fun atmosphere and a great beer selection! This place is all about local! Love it!
Fried chicken is amazing…the rest of the menu is terrible.
Great selection of beer, with a very helpful staff to help you sift through and decide what you'd like. If (like us) you're looking to try a bunch of new-to-you local brews, get a flight, which comes on a chalk-labeled, black, cleaver-shaped, wooden board. The buttermilk chicken is good so I can see why people flock here for it, but I thought some of the seafood dishes were even better. The maple bacon scallops are a must! The location was very central and allowed for a nice after-dinner stroll to take in central Saint John. In the summer, the patio was fantastic.
Fantastic service and great drinks! Loved the Parisian Sidecar!
Good fish n' chips and a excellent selection of local brews on tap. Glad we made this choice.
Amazing place, good food, super friendly staff, and the best you can enjoy the blueberry ale with your doggie
Good food, great atmosphere and an impressive list of local craft beers and ciders. Service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. Likely would have been 5 stars but as someone who has worked as a bartender for almost 10 years having our group referred to as "girls" multiple times, or other "pet names" (as a group of adult women) was a bit off-putting and uncomfortable.
Great food and so much good beer!
Food is always excellent and freshly prepared, with a rotating menu and focus on local fare. Pub area has excellent beer selection and best outdoor location on boardwalk.
Unfortunately a tourist trap. Being from out of town we were trying to find a place to eat on a Sunday evening (surprisingly difficult in Saint John). We decided to share the "crab" and spinach dip, which was a sad sight. I'm still unsure if there was any crab in the dip at all to be honest. When asked, server claims the crab is puréed into the dip- what a sad thing to do to fresh crab. Steep $16.50 for some spinach and cream cheese sauce....
Amazing service! Adapted to numerous food restrictions without any problems, and the food tasted fantastic!! Will definitely go again!
Food was good! Beer selection is vast! The service was slow even though not much going on.
Great wine deals on Mondays! Food is underwhelming; overcooked mussels bloated and watery. Over-done steak.
Decent food, limited menu, way overpriced. There are many better options in uptown Saint John.
Great beer selection much of it local.
Service was so so. Food was good. Lots of beer options on tap. Slightly overpriced for the serving size and presentation. Great location and overall a decent choice to stop for food and beverage
Great people, food, and beer selection!
Consistently good food. Great beer selection to go with it.
Wide range and of great beer and excellent beer. Burger can be ordered medium rare and chips are delicious.
Awesome! Our Bartender was amazing, he was great, very friendly and helpful.
Always interesting menu options, friendly staff and great NB beer selection!
Good service, good food and more importantly a good selection of beer. Patio looks like it could be deadly on a nice day.
Went with a group of friends, we had the fish and chips, a burger, steak and chiken strips. The only good dish were the chiken strips and I will say the fries were very good but everything else was poor to say the least. The fish had about hald an inch of batter on every side if the fish and it was bland. Burger just wasn't good, no one at the table liked it. And the steak was smaller than the size of your average deck of cards. Quite expensive to top it all off, cheapest meal being 18 dollars, plus a cool 3 or 4 dollars for a can of pepsi, roughly a 600% return on a 50 cent can of pop. Save your time and money and go somewheres else on the boardwalk for lunch.
Butter chicken fingers and loaded mashed potatoes was awesome!! Wonderful service!!
Try the seafood sandwich, and a flight.
Waterfront dining. You don't have much of a water view, but the outdoor patio has some nice people watching on this crowded pedestrian waterfront, and a live music bandstand a hundred feet away that had great live music to listen to. The beer selection was good as was the food and service.
Great beer on tap, great burger, nice patio.
Loved this spot. Will visit every time I am in St John.
Good but over priced. Our waitress was as friendly as a brick. Won't go back.
The Saint John Ale House (SJAH) is a great restaurant and has great plates and an even better beer selection. The Buttermilk Chicken Fingers are great, as well as the hamburger. The restaurant is definitely hip, and during the summer time, the patio is overlooking the water. One issue is the food is fairly expensive but not out of the norm.
Great vibe and view of the square. Excellent menu and service. Be open to new things
Good food. Good portion. Good staff
Always good!!! Great service, love the local food!
Nice place. Locally sourced food. Small menu but good options. Bigger beer selection. Indoor and outdoor seating on Saint John boardwalk.
Crazy selection of beers and good food
They have a great selection of beers, I recommend getting a sampler of four 5 ounce beers. The smoked mackerel and crab / spinach dip were quite tasty appetizers. For the main course I had the prime rib on yorkshire smothered in gravy and mushrooms = delicious. We had a very knowledgeable waitress that catered to my beer tastes. And for dessert I devoured a delectable Guinness cake.
Little pricy but good food.
It's been a over a year since I have tried Saint john Ale house due to not one but multiple poor experiences. I can handle poor servers, and kitchen accidents or mistakes but for how much a meal cost at this High end establishment i have yet to be served a dish i was satisfied with. Today was no different. Axil Salad- The smallest portion of Salad mix with a high price of 15.98.. I was shocked at not only the small portion of greens but how the chicken i ordered with it for an extra 8$ was chard Black and harsh to taste. Pork Bites- 14.23..... other than the fat and grease at the bottom of the dish that had a great salty taste the bites were over 70% Fat that pulled apart like toffee and it was dry and rough. Grilled Romaine Salad - 30.62 ( CRAZY ) that my partner got... She ate 25% of it and i figured she just didn't have a big apatite so me being extremely hungry at this point took a bite and realized that it wasn't her being full but the fact it wasn't worth the one bite i took I wish i could stop there but unfortunately the service and specifically our server lacked any drive or spunk. I don't even think she attempted to engage in a conversation with us . It was just all around another poor experience Worst part was i had a gift card i got for Christmas last year that covered half the meal.. but i still felt robbed leaving wondering what i paid for. I recommend you take you're entire serving staff on a field trip up to Moncton and go to IHOP for breakfast and take note on how they interact with customers. For a high end restaurant in saint john I think it's time re evaluate your establishment or think about selling to someone that will turn your place around. Kyle.
Three for three...we get out to the Ale House for a burger when we're in the Saint John, and it's consistently good. Staff are always great!
Beer, beer and more beer! Located on the harbourside of Saint John, this is where you go to get your beer on! With a large wall of taps there is so much to choose from! Get a driver, or stay downtown because your not driving anywhere . I have only had beer there, however they a terrific menu using tons of local ingredients.
Food was o.k ...over priced and slow service
Very nice place!
Actually above average for this type of place. Lots of tourist spots don't really try that hard. I strongly recommend this spot
Very excellent food, and beer. Great menu selections. Pretty nice inside and patio and cool location. The staff was very friendly! Market chowder and mussels with fries was delicious.
Not bad of a place, just too much money. Yes expensive
I had a very delicious 'Pub Club' which must have had an entire chicken breast in it and was juicy and done to perfection (sorry I didn't take a photo of that)! Atmosphere is great and my waiter, Cole, was very tentative and efficient! Had a Moosehead Small Batch Mango IPA ... Yummy and thirst quenching!
Food was excellent. I didn't find the menu to be very large and I found it to be on the expensive side. But my steak was amazing! Good service and atmosphere. Lots of different beer on tap.
Found proper fish and chips at Saint John Ale House. The batter was crisp and the fries were fresh. Good selection of local beers (would highly recommend the pump house cider). It also appeared to one of only a few restaurants open on Sunday. Would recommend and return.
Service was pretty slow but food was great. Amazing location and great drink options.
This restaurant has a fantastic selection of micro brews! Samples of four are $2 off Thursday nights, highly recommend. The service was a bit slow, but he was nice, although he kept forgetting to refill our water, a no-no on such a hot day and in a warmer restaurant. The food was delicious though, and fairly priced for what you receive, even for seafood. Their Prime Rib Sandwich is amazing. Dessert is good, but not much for what you pay for. Overall though, totally recommend giving this place a try, definitely worth the money.
Consistently good and innovative. Brilliant bar staff.
Nice place, nice wather view, good amount of specialize beer, high quality food... for a pub. I would recommand.
The food was good, didn't realize a chicken Ceasar salad would be a full Romain lettuce cut in half served on the side of piece of chicken, basically make your own salad, food is over priced, $25 just for my salad. Plenty of beer choices on tap. Entertainment is very nice on the side of the water.
very friendly staff good ale also
Great burger for burger week!
Wow, just wow! It was absolutely amazing. I love food, and I am not usually easily impressed. This was incredible. Notwithstanding the beautiful atmosphere and the wonderful service. You will see me again soon ;)
Best restaurant and service in Saint John! I had my wedding at The Saint John Ale House and it was amazing - best venue ever. The food was beyond delicious. We got married two months ago and our guests are still talking about how great the good was!! If you want to have a amazing food AND a great experience - this is the place!
We were in the OH room. The servers were super nice and friendly. They were always smiling! That really stood out! The food was on point. I really enjoyed the Pulled pork for the tacos. I really recommend getting a ceaser! Explosion of flavor! Great experience all round! I would however crank that AC before guests arrive. :)
Food was terrific. Staff was great.
Watched 3 tables come and go before the waitress even took our food order. Menu does not list all that comes on a plate, had I known I would have have requested not to have them included. Fish was soggy (and came weirdly fast considering the size of the fillet). Highest drink prices compared to others in the area. Would not return.
Great little pub/restaurant in Market Square on the waterfront. Plenty of outdoor tables, too. Food was great, service was excellent, and the beer choices many. I had the salmon salad and an appetizer of bacon-wrapped scallops: delicious. I'd stop back in a minute, next time I'm in town.
Dinner
Delicious brews. Good Staff - keep up the good work.
Friendly staff! Bathrooms are chaotic in weekends. But what can you do it's a bar.
Good beers, good food Specially fish
Lots of draft beer to choose. Didn't try the food.
Always a great beer selection. Wish the pub had a bit more room on busy nights but I guess you could say that for a lot of places. Good service and a hip atmosphere.
Great food, great beer selection.
Great beer and ambiance
Good service, nice beer selection and great option in St. John. Would reccomend and go again.
Server was great. As always.
Patio by live stage, the ocean, the breeze, and most importantly the delicious food.
Excellent food and service. Very friendly staff
Many beer choices. Food was fresh and good. Our waitress was very pleasant. Patio here is big and in a nice location.
Great food. Great staff. Great service. Only catch is the high price.
Good food, good beer list. The ability to do flights is always a plus, and they let you pick any 4 from the draught list.
Cold beer...yummy lobster roll...sunny patio.
