MIND-BLOWING! Me and my partner stayed at the Algonquin for a weekend and had dinner at Braxton’s two days in a row. The new chef has made a fantastic job at creating memorable dishes that create an exciting experience for the palate. The pork belly with scallops are the most delicious appetizer I’ve ever had, and the cheesecake créeme brûlée was just exquisite. The cocktails were another pleasant surprise as they were both creative and delicious. Every person working at the restaurant was super nice and helpful. This made our stay even more pleasant. I would come back in a heartbeat just to eat here. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who values amazing food and great views. You can safely disregard previous negative reviews as the management and the chef are new (we were told). They have come to put Braxton’s name back at the top and in my opinion; they have made it wonderfully.

We were quite underwhelmed with our experience at Braxton's. We had made a reservation but were seated at the very back of the restaurant near the swinging kitchen door which was quite loud and distracting. My partner ordered the cauliflower steak which turned out to be half a head of cauliflower barely roasted on a bed of puréed sweet potato that arrived dripping off the plate. Absolutely not worth the $29 price tag.

Terrible Crispy buttermilk chicken burger obviously from the freezer and over cooked. Service was friendly and efficient food was tasteless

Tiana Cheney

The creme Brule and Mai Tai were exceptional. The beet salad and crab cake were ok. Very expensive.

A.J. Kennedy

The seafood chowder was delicious and packed with lobster, fish, scallops, potato and a very light cream sauce delicate enough for the seafood flavores to come through in just the right proportion.

We stopped in here for lunch last year as we were traveling through the area. It was a very nice historic setting in the magnificent old Algonquin Resort. We couldn't have been more happy. Our server, Jordan, was pleasant, attentive, courteous and friendly. Doris started with a glass of Chardonnay to compliment her Artisan Salad. We spit an order of succulent Lobster Rolls and I then had a Caesar Salad. We were pleased with everything we ordered, no complaints. The lobster rolls were exceptional. Our total bill came to $ 61 CAD ($ 46 USD). We did not stay here but definitely will next time we come back this way. Simply beautiful here. Overall very good however the blueberry minoinette for the oysters was to sweet, basically it was blueberry jam which was fine on bread but not on oysters. The horseradish was very dry, essentially inedible. Ive been thinking about what the did wrong with the horseradish, I suspect that the used the skin instead of the meat of the horseradish. They also served it dry, horseradish is always prepared with vinegar, thats essential and they left it out. The scallops we're very good as the chowder.

Worst fish and chip I have ever ate, with all the hype I heard from their dinning I was very disappointed! I wouldn't even feed it to a wild animal

Harvey Mains

It was good quality and a nice break from the more casual restaurants around but for the cost I would expect something a little more special. That being said I would definitely go again.

Great service, nicely decorated restaurant, food was pretty good but not great.

Overall experience was good. Staff and service was AMAZING. Food was a little overpriced and portions small. Wasn't the portions I was expecting for what you pay for. Food was prepared excellent and flavors were delicious.

Located in the Algonquin Hotel, the ambience and staff are top-notch. They make you feel special. I had the Algonquin burger and seafood chowder. The burger patty was dry, which made me think it was cooked from frozen (I could be wrong). The burger includes cheese, bacon, an onion ring, tomato, lettuce, and a sauce that may be horseradish-ish. The cheese didn't add to the flavour but the bacon and sauce worked well. The chowder was delicious but the seafood (as much as there was) was in very small pieces, which made me think it wasn't fresh (but I could be wrong). Good flavour though.

After reading the reviews about issues with the service; we were skeptical when we made a reservation. After our meal: I have to say that the service was exceptional - provided by Rachel. My wife and I had the crab cakes, tenderloin and salmon. Everything was very good, especially the tenderloin.

Joshua Rosen

Delicious well presented food. Nice atmosphere. Justin provided friendly attentive service. Thanks!

Justin Parker

Delicious breakfast and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Service was great. Covid-19 procedures were in place and comfortable

H Hayward

The food is fantastic. The service is exceptional; best in all of Atlantic Canada. I had the chicken supreme.

M. Basa

Not a single complaint about this place. Shared 3 dishes with the Beef tenderloin, the Chicken sandwich and the Braxton Share Platter. Each dish was cooked to perfection and each bite delicious. Would highly recommend.

Very disappointing. My halibut was overcooked and dry. My mom's seafood dish was of little shrimp and scallops from the freezer I'm sure! Overpriced and underwhelming.

Feeling a great need to escape following a hard winter locked in the house, we escaped to the Algonquin Resort in picturesque St. Andrews, NB. Needing time to relax, we didn’t even leave the hotel and ate all of our meals at the hotel’s restaurant/bar. As there were relatively few people in the hotel, it was easy to just drop in without reservations. We chose to eat in the bar as we needed a “baño de gente” as my Spanish spouse calls it. Literally a “bath of people”, we needed to feel the atmosphere with people around. Also, the bar had a nice fireplace. Gas but realistic feeling. First, the staff are incredibly with the polish one would expect from a restaurant of this nature. Friendly and engaging wish just the right amount of attention without feeling over bearing. Meals arrived with good timing and nice presentation. Quality was good. Not great like I would have expected for the place and price. However, we were not disappointed with the meals. So while all was well with the meal, I feel the prices were too high relative to fine dining in other locations. Yes, I understand hotel restaurant have an added markup and many times I opt to pay rather than leave the hotel. However, it was just a little higher than I felt it merited. For example, my $40 seafood risotto was good. Not great as I expected for this price. The bottle of wine we ordered one night was about triple the cost from the liquor store. The other negative for me was to see two tip lines on the bill. One just labeled tip and the other labelled something like kitchen tip. It is a well known fact that in North America restaurants are trying to up the percentages of tips as a way to supplement wages paid, not for rewarding good service, as a tip should be. If a restaurant wants to recognize cook staff, then have tips split. However, the best way to recognize all staff, especially chefs, is to pay them well. In a tourist country like Spain, hardly anyone tips. It is because they pay their staff a good wage and the service there is still spectacular. Anyway, this sat very badly with me and is not a change in custom that I will support. So all in all a great experience but with the little distractions noted, I could not support a 5 star rating.

It was a great experience having breakfast here! Staff are very accommodating and attentive, not allowing my coffee cup to be empty, which is awesome. Poach eggs and pancakes with blueberry jam were really tasty that my daughter craved for it just when we got home and tried to make her own version. Thank you!

Brent Harris

truly enjoyed our visit and food was hot fresh and delish!

Betsy Knorr

Phenomenal restaurant and treated us like gold for our father's 60th birthday celebrating. Top-class act all the way. Staff was incredible. This place is hands down the best restaurant in St. Andrews.

Always a great spot. One of the best in hotel restaurants in the province. It completes a well rounded stay at this beautiful hotel. I adore the crab cakes! A limited menu but what they do they do well! Fresh and unique dishes and I haven't been disappointed yet.

Love it! Great service and safely socially distanced. I have lunch here a few times a week-soups are creative spins on seasonal ingredients. The lobster roll is the best-most don’t have enough vegetables and crunch and too much Mayo. This one is amazing! Mussels are also a favorite. Highly recommend.

Great foods and local beer!

Service and food were fantastic! I love the atmosphere and it is the very best that pets are welcome. Always feels like going home when I visit the Algonquin. Thanks for the exceptional experience once again!

Food was very under whelming. Nothing special. Found it very pricey for what we had !! $13 for a Cesar. It was good but not worth that. Our meal was $100. My husband and I each had a drink, dessert . He had a chicken sandwich with side salad . I had chowder and salad. The salad was mixed greens with 2 strawberries a few blueberries... that's it . I don't mind paying for a decent meal but I was definately disappointed. The service was good.

Great buffets, both breakfast and dinner. For breakfast, a good selection of eggs including a custom omelet bar, bacon, sausage, potatoes, various fruits and pastries. For dinner, a good selection of charcuterie, two great soups, a great salad bar, a pasta custom station with several sauces, pastas and add-ons to choose from and a good selection of desserts. A good selection of drinks.

Lulu Pastrana

3rd time there in the last couple years. Overpriced, small portions, menu is blah. Waitress didn't know the menu and couldn't pronounce a few items. They ran out of a couple items we wanted to order so finished our drinks and went downstairs to the Wright whale pub which was Awesome!

A very nice hotel and good staff but I will start by stating that we travel a lot and enjoy a good meal. We also never complained and it take some very disappointing food to make us do so.. We just left that nice looking restaurant that serve some low quality bar food at a premium price. We started with a Cesar salad that was not bad but nothing extraordinary followed by the only thing on the reduced menu that is no where near what s advertise online (covid not an excuse they had a year to change it) the only decent meal other than burgers was a steak frite at 32$ .. so 150$ later plus tip we ate dive bar steak quality with no spice. When we asked for spice there was no steak spice so they brought us a tea spoon of HP sauce and some packet of salt.. for a romantic night that will cost me over 500$ it is EXTREMELY disappointing.. sorry for the bad review as this is my first one but I couldn't say nothing.. stay there but eat elsewhere..

The food was fantastic and the price was good for the quality.

We are staying at the Algonquin for 4 nights in the lovely and quiet town of St Andrews. The Braxton's lounge is the casual dining option of 2 restaurants in the hotel. I would say that the food is okay but pricey and not all that expertly made. A Margherita flatbread pizza had raw tomatoes atop of pizza dough with melted tasteless mozzarella and some basil leaves sprinkled around. Grilling the entire flatbread would have made the whole thing much better, along with some kind of seasoning. But as it was, it was tasteless. I also had the sirloin hoping that a more straightforward entree would be easier on the kitchen. while the protein was fine the veg was under-cooked. The staff is seasonal, coming from all over Canada to earn money at summer resorts so maybe by the end of the season, the food will improve. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of options in town that are not deep fried. Given the beauty of the hotel and the surroundings, I would have thought that the food would be a grade better.

Stopped in at Braxton's for a nice lunch on the patio. All food and drinks were outstanding, particularly the crab cakes and the oysters. Service was top notch as well. A touch of class!

Excellent. We enjoyed everything we had from oysters to soup to scallops. Masterfully prepared, beautifully presented.

Food was a 3/5 decent. Chowder came kind of lukewarm. Salad was okay but nothing special. Fresh pepper that the waitress brought over was underwhelming. My brother got the linguini pasta that he liked. Nice staff and historical hotel bumped it up to a 4.

Amazing food and Amazing service!!

We ate here two nights in a row. Wow the food was amazing. I loved the crab cakes and the chowder. The second night I tried the Ceasar salad and the Digby Scallops with pork belly. I really wished I had tried the scallops with pork belly the first night so I could have had it again. The Ceasar salad was very good as well. Tasted like the dressing was made from scratch.

Was here for my birthday this year. Had a bad experience last year but decided to give it a second chance given it is one of the more finer dining experiences in St Andrews. Our party of 4 was seated far to close to the next couple then we’re advised that they were out of two items on the menu. I was so disappointed. We saved ourselves the trouble and went downstairs to the Pub and the manager waited on us. His service was top notch and the food was excellent. We won’t waste our time reserving at Braxtons again.

Erica Kaiser Attoe

Attempted to go to this restaurant in the evening with probably about 2 hours till close. Asked about the patio and was told it was first come first serve and to go grab an open spot and someone would help us out. Went outside and sat at an empty table and waited for about 20 minutes. Table wasn’t cleared and we were not served or acknowledged. Seemed to be at least 3 servers covering the patio and they walked by us 2 or 3 times serving other people but didn’t notice us when we tried to get their attention. Not sure what the issue was as it seemed to be normal in terms of busyness. Ended up leaving and going elsewhere instead of waiting any longer. Hopefully their customer service improves as they get up and running again for summer. Disappointing regardless as the hotel and restaurant are in a nice setting and our family members frequently stay at the hotel. This review is not indicative of the food as we didn’t get a chance to actually try it only our experience waiting.

Patryk Wisniewski

We were given free breakfast vouchers because there was an issue with our room. Thank goodness we did not have to pay for this meal. The scrambled eggs were very undercooked and the "Acadian spiced potatoes" were tater tots. This a a breakfast I'd expect from a Comfort Inn not a Marriott signature restaurant. $18 for this meal was highway robbery. Do yourself and your pocketbook a favour by going into town and eating at Lumberjacks Cafe- much better food at half the price.

Tanya Adams

Sometimes it deserves 5 stars, othertimes 2 stars. It's a bit hit and miss, but at their prices I would expect a hit each time. Service was okay considering they were busy most times I've been there.

Chelsey Hanson

Good food, drinks, and service. I didn't give 5 stars because for a world famous resort nothing wowed me, nothing was exceptionally done.
