I was here for the Tech N9ne ft. Krizz Calico event and this review is in no way disparaging their performance, which was impressive, spectacular, and worthy of a full five stars. This is regarding the venue itself.
I was deeply dismayed at the speed at which staff processed tickets, which was far and beyond the slowest I have ever seen from a venue in my life. I personally had to wait for over a full hour to enter the venue, and I was roughly halfway to at worst two thirds through the line. I'm uncertain why they did not decide to allocate more staff to processing, but the experience was a negative one.
Drink prices were absolutely astonishing even once we were in. Some friends we entered with paid 14$ for a double rye and coke before tip, which is rather high even for a bar.
The actual space was clean and had an interesting layout, featuring some raised sitting areas, lowered sitting areas, and plenty of standing room. The stage was not large but well visible for the entire audience, and sound quality and volume was admirable.
Staff ranged quite a bit in terms of friendliness, from reasonable and efficient to stern and unhelpful. I am not certain if event security was provided by the venue or the performers, but the security that was there was quite aggressive and gung-ho. So much so that at one point the performers even reminded the security that these were his fans and that they were not overstepping any bounds.
I would be willing to give the Pyramid another try, as both a venue and as a club. But I was very disappointed in my experience and hope this is not typical.
