Wonderful bar downtown Guelph. They serve good food and drinks during the day and change over to a packed University bar in the evening with loud music and lots of younger people. I have had strange encounters with several drunk people here but that's not uncommon in Guelph. Some nights they run trivia games which are fun with groups of friends or with a partner. One of my favorite bars around town.

I live an hour away in Burlington but I came up to Guelph one night and had dinner with my boyfriend who is an employee there. He got hired in the summer and so he convinced me and our other friend to come try the food. It’s definitely something different than what I’m used to in my city but it is very good. I will most likely be back on New Years Eve :)

10/10 downtown Guelph people - watching spot! Love the wood aestetic, also wicked people-watching open window spaces! Excellent variety on hand for beverages - lots of delicious local beers, not to mention the amazing and friendly service! (Pints of Wellington SPA and empty Jameson shots pictured, we couldn't wait.)

The food and atmosphere is great, but the wait staff are just not on the ball. We specifically reserved seating for 4 in front of a TV to watch the World Cup final, but we found out when we got there two of the seats were facing away from the TV and had to convince them to change our seats. We weren't served for over 20 minutes, and once we were finally served, they didn't K ow who was supposed to be serving us. Then items were missed. Re-orders were also missed, but then extra items we didn't order showed up. The eggs benny is pretty good though, the yolk was just slightly overcooked.

Royal Electric is one of our favourite restaurants in Guelph. They have turned this building into a really cool place to eat, drink, and hang out. They have a great selection of beer on tap, including many locally produced craft beer. The food is always amazing. The menu is small, but what they do have is spectacular. Favourite dishes include the fried chicken (order the Nashville hot) and the catfish, but we have never had a bad meal here. The service is always very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cool. Exposed bricks and beams. Why did I not give them a 5? Because they took the Mac and cheese off the menu and it was a huge favourite -also I wouldn't mind a couple other menu options to bring me in more often. Otherwise this place is amazing. A must visit restaurant in Guelph. I forgot to mention that their buffalo cauliflower bites are the best I have ever had. Huge pieces full of flavour.

It was a nice atmosphere and we had delicious drinks. There is no vegan option in the menu (aside from olives). They accommodated and modified a vegetarian burrito bowl option to fit our needs. I do worry there was a non-vegan chip crumble on our burrito bowl but I didn’t ask. I would check if you plan to order this. The food was delicious. You get so many olives it is worth it! The beer options were plentiful but the glass was hot from the dishwasher so it wasn’t refreshing on a hot day. The pitcher of summer spritz was delicious!

No matter how good this place was going to be it was always going to lose one star in my book for replacing one of the only places in town that used to play Funk and soul with a dance floor... But as far as gastro style bars go it's an extremely nice place, and the food is surprisingly well priced in comparison to most bars of the type which are more pretentious in nature. Nice helpful staff and a wide selection of changing ales available

Honestly the best burger I've ever had at a super reasonable price. I love this place, outdoor eating was pleasant and the food was amazing. The staff provided us with ample.opportunities to order. I really can't believe food this good could be so affordable. 10 dollar burgers on Mondays are an absolute steal. Definitely plan to come back. One of the best places to eat in Guelph.

Nice place. Loved the olive app. Only downside is that there is no change table in the men's so a friend of ours had to change his son in the ladies, but not a big deal for an afternoon visit. Night experience was good. Good drinks and space for dancing.

Perhaps one of the worst venues I have visited downtown Guelph by a landslide. I did not enjoy any part of my visit to Royal Electric, which was rather disappointing as I had high hopes for this popular bar. When I arrived at this location I was greeted by a woman who informed me that I would be charged a $5 cover to enter the venue. I asked politely if there was an ATM inside as I was not carrying cash. She said no, I would have to walk across the street to Double Dragon and attempt to use their ATM (This ATM was out of order and barricaded behind a table). After eventually finding a working ATM in a nearby convenient store I returned to Royal Electric and was finally allowed inside the venue. The first thing I saw when I walked into the bar was, in plain sight, a perfectly working ATM machine! I'm not sure why the employee would lie about such a seemingly trivia detail, but I had a good laugh at this staff member's ignorance and tried not to let this negative experience bother me. I then sat down at a table on the patio with 5 of my friends and was turned off by the large amount of what appeared to be bird poop on our table. After waiting approximately 15 minutes for a staff member to serve us and clean our table, I realized that if I desired any sort of customer service whatsoever I would have to walk up to the bar and demand it. The bartender saw me pull out a credit card and quickly informed me that the bar was "cash only". This seemed a little unprofessional, especially considering the fact that the employees didn't seem to realize an ATM machine within their own facility existed. I proceeded to take out cash for a second time, this time at the bar's ATM. (It definitely exists) I walked back up to the counter with my cash, ready to finally place my drink order, just to find out that my friends had paid for their drinks with a credit card and did not run into the frustration I did. At this point I left without ordering anything and promised myself I would never come back to a bar in which the employees are utterly infuriating. The entire process at this restaurant is staggeringly useless and flawed down to its very core. P.S. The venue did not have more than 10 people inside it when I arrived. It was not busy at all, there was no live music playing yet, nobody was standing at the bar, nobody was in line at the door. Myself and those accompanying me were nearly the only customers the staff were required to focus on and we still did not receive anything close to an adequate level of customer service.

Came here for lunch with few colleagues and was blown away by the quality of food and level of service. We had pre ordered due to us being a large group of people and we were able to get our food and drinks as soon as we sat down. Definitely recommend the chicken burger with supreme fries. The pickled onions and jalapeños definitely add a nice touch to the fries. Great atmosphere, convenient location, and great service. Will be back for sure!

You gotta eat here! This restaurant has a great vibe! You have to love what they have done to restore, enhancing the heritage of this landmark. It's perfect for all your informal get togethers! Did I mention the great food and awesome service? You have to love the food and wine specials. Who doesn't love entertainment on Sundays? Dualling pianos anyone? Get in there quick and enjoy!

Great location with a nice long bar. The have about 10 beers & ciders on tap. Specials that change depending on the day of the week. The food menu was delicious and from what I gathered from the others in my group, they were all satisfied. Nice patio also. Only reason they got 4 ???? was because they didn't have their AC on and it was about 35C inside.

Stopped here on a Saturday night for dinner. At first there was not much space in the patio, but as soon as a spot became available the waitress did ask if we wanted to move outside. Which was great. The inside of the restaurant is not very well lit so i was glad we got a spot outdoors. Food was great, just a bit delayed on the refill but overall the experience was pleasant and so was the waitress. I would definitely recommend.

The vibe of this place is nice. Went on a Saturday night... Cover was 5 bucks a person. Our bartender was funny as hell. Earlier on in the night I felt like the crowd was older and more mature, but then it got younger and younger as the night progressed. A few things to know. At some point during the night it turned to Cash Only... I'm not sure if that's a regular thing for them. But it sucked when we were running a tab. Also. It got really busy, almost felt overcapacity... But I guess that's like most bars or clubs. I liked that they didn't take chairs away, so you still had an option to sit at booths or tables. And they do have a coat check there as well for the ladies, so you don't need to drag a jacket around all night.

Royal is our favourite local. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the fact that they play sports games with the sound is a plus! Royal Electric also has the best deal in town every Wednesday night - $10 burger (imo it's the best burger in town) with a side and they have craft beers on for $6 on Wednesdays too. I will say that you should go early (before 8pm) for two reasons - the kitchen often closes surprisingly early, and they have a guy playing acoustic covers really loudly after 8 a few nights a week. If you're into that sort of thing it probably great, I know he takes requests, but it's not our jam and we try to leave as soon as possible once he starts. Overall, 5 stars!!

Conveniently located downtown with street parking right outside. Nicely renovated and decorated inside. I was a bit disappointed with the poor and small selection of beer. If you are into craft beers set your expectations low. There were lots of interesting food options. The tacos I had were alright but the winner were the chili nachos. Highly recommended those or the Supreme fries.

We had a birthday party at this place. They had this table in the middle that was attached to a beam and you could very easily adjust the length of the table to be shorter or longer. The table was not sterdy and had a slight wabble to it. Other than that the service was good and the food was delicious.

I don't go out very often..... so my wife planned to go out and we and friends decide to go to the Royal Electric bar... so let me tell you.... they were running behind on food orders and drink also the beer they have sucks... when I wanted to take an order of french fries, they told me the kitchen was close at 10.00 pm.... Music was pretty bad until a guy show up with guitar...

Really eclectic tap list that offers something for everyone. Local options, cool one offs and fan favourites all available. I loved the chicken salad sandwich and Nashville hot fried chicken.

One of the best spots in Downtown Guelph. Something like 16 beers on tap and a huge bar with a dance floor in the back. It's hard to believe this place used to be vinyl. The inside is completely redone. It's modern and nice. Definitely worth checking out!

The food is terrific here and there are a lot of great beers on tap. They have certain things on special on several days of the week too which is an added bonus. Their burger might just be the best around; it’s so good and actually looks like it was made with care (unlike fast food burgers compared to their advertised pictures)! Their fries are skinny and delicious and different from other places regular thick cut fries. The food and drinks are pricier than they should be though, but I guess that might just be the new normal in downtown Guelph... It has a nice atmosphere that capitalizes on the exposed urban trend. It’s a larger space but can be cozy if you get a booth. There are TVs with sports on if you go to watch the game, ample seating for just having a meal or pint with friends, and live music at times as well. The staff are great as well. They’re always attentive and helpful and they’re professional too. Really, the only negative about RE is the prices. The daily specials definitely help, but not everything (especially their fried chicken sandwich which is absolutely fantastic) goes on special.

My friend and I went there when it was not very busy, yet the other places in the neighborhood were. I'm not sure if it's just the timing or is it always like that? Had an okay selection of craft beers, which is what I like. Not a lot of vegan options. Since there are so many other great pubs in the neighborhood I probably wouldn't be back, but saying that if you're not vegan I would at least give it one more star.

A group of 8 of us came here on Sunday, it was raining & our reservation was for the patio outside, we called to ask what would happen if it was still raining come our reservation time & they said they already had it all set up inside for us! The server was very prompt at coming to our table throughout the night & provided amazing service. Our appetizers came out super quick, & so did our meals, the food was so great! Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. While passing through Guelph we stopped into Royal Electric for dinner and we were unexpectedly blown away. Each menu item is prepared in a very creative way using unusual ingredients that come together to create a symphony of flavors. By far the best dish we had was the Burrata. It came with roasted garlic, crispy prosciutto, tomatoes and hot peppers. An unexpected pairing that really wowed us. Our server was attentive and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommended.

This place is pretty great. Really good atmosphere, a pub with a back patio. Industrial, modern decor. The service is friendly and helpful. The drinks are really nice although a higher price point than average. Try the penicillin, they make it very well here, super balanced. The food is pretty good too. Prices are a bit high for a pub, but the portions are huge. Decent cook work, flavour profile needs a bit of help, but overall great compared to most. Highly recommended this place.

Food is a few dollars more per meal than some of the other local places, but it's worth it. The atmosphere is cool, patio is excellent, service is always very attentive. They have a great beer selection and cocktails. I've only been here early evening/lunch, but I know it becomes more of a university bar with DJ at night. I can't speak for that as I've never been here after 10 on the weekend, but it's our local favourite for dinner and a few drinks.

My group of 4 get to the restaurant and are offered a plastic table in the corner by the alley. When we requested to sit at one of their three available picnic tables the host tells us they are saving them for large parties, ironically one of the taken picnic tables had a party of 2 seated at it. Once we accept the table in the corner that is seated right beside the host stand we waited 15 minutes without being greeted by our server meanwhile the host proceeds to seat parties of 3 at the tables we had previously requested. We left when we realized how poor the service was and nobody even noticed us leave. Yikes.

The order was Nashville wings for a take a way . Over cooked and dry , I tried a wing and a drum . I hope that someone at the Royal Electric reads this. I had to put the rest of the pieces in the waste bin.

Went here because it had good reviews. Sat down with a party of six and we all ordered drinks and then ordered our food shortly after the drinks arrived. We were then told that the kitchen had no chicken. We all literally ordered something that had chicken in the dish. It's not the server's fault, this one falls on management. Ask if they have their ingredients before you sit down and order your drinks folks.

The servers are all really nice and were very efficient even when the place was packed. The only thing that slightly ruined my experience last time was how rude the taller male manager was. My wife and I went to Royal electric based upon a recommendation from friends of ours. To begin the service was great, our waitress was attentive and was able to take our drink and appetizer order. Upon receiving our drinks & apps we ordered from the menu and that's where our service and food took a drastic turn. I ordered the chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad as the side for an extra $3. My wife ordered the lobster roll with sweet potato fries as a side for an extra $3. Our waitress took down our order and went to the table right next to us. Before our food arrived (which took a long time, but I assumed it would take longer due to covid). Our waitress informed my wife that her lobster roll wasn't available anymore (again, not a major problem. Assumed it was due to covid) so she ordered the Calzone. When our food finally arrived, I received my chicken sandwich with a regular house salad on the side and my wife received her calzone with a house salad on the side. I went to confirm with the individual who brought out our food that these weren't the correct sides that we had ordered. We were told "Well they weren't on the order so we can't give them to you." Then "if we were to make them for you we would have to charge you for them." Which was completely fine to my wife and I as we were already prepared to pay extra for those sides. Before even giving us an opportunity to answer he just walked away. So after starting our meal which was incorrect, our waitress comes over about 5-10 minutes later and asks if everything is ok. Which we then tell her that no, it isn't because our sides weren't correct which she then proceeds to tell us no, that's not what we had asked for (even though after confirming with my wife that we did order those sides), but she can have them made up for an extra cost. At this point, I just wanted to finish my food, pay and leave. I said don't bother as we were almost done our food, and she said to us "It won't be a big problem, I can have them make it up right now." My wife also asked for a better knife to cut her calzone as they only provided a butter knife to cut through it and the waitress went back into the restaurant. After a 5-10 minute wait she comes out with a Caesar salad and in a condescending tone says to me "see, not a problem at all". Then leaves before we can ask again for a better knife to cut my wife's dinner with. At the end of our meal we asked for a box for my wife's leftovers and were met with the most obnoxious eye roll. After receiving the bill we were charged for 2 caesar salad sides and a side of sweet potato fries. At this point I just wanted to leave so I paid for it and we left. For the food, the chicken sandwich definitely didn't meet expectations as it was on the smaller side and similar to something you could get from 7/11. The slushies that we ordered were okay and my wife wasn't impressed with the calzone. The best part of our meal was our appetizer which was the loaded fries. Highly unlikely that we give this place another chance if we are in town. TL;DR - Food is average at best & Staff will place blame on customers and charge you for food you never received.

While the atmosphere is great (4/5) the rest of our experience left lots to be desired. The restaurant wasn't busy (maybe 7 other tables of people), yet the hostess barely had time to speak with us, and failed to even give us menus. After 20 minutes we finally received our menus, and placed a drink order. The waiter was very friendly, but incredibly slow. After being at the restaurant for 45 minutes, we were finally able to place our food order, which came out about 45 minutes after that. Now the food... Everyones was decent (not incredible) but decent. We ordered a big variety from nachos, to loaded fries and fried chicken, to wings and devilled eggs. All of the other reviews raved about the chicken wings, and while they had all the makings to be a great wing, they simply did not live up to the hype. I've had better wings at fast food restaurants. Overall, the experience was not great and we're not likely to return. It's really too bad though, because the design is pretty cool, and we were really looking forward to trying it out. Our first and last experience.

The fried chicken bucket is just...wow. Definitely the best fried chicken in Guelph and one of the best I've ever had. Also the staff are so nice and accommodating whether it's putting together a large order in a timely manner, extra dipping sauces, or letting my dog and I sit inside to get shelter from a sudden downpour. Their food and their staff are a great embodiment of what Guelph is all about.

Service is a disaster regardless of person, time, day of the week, or where you sit (bar, patio, table inside). The wait time to even be acknowledged is embarrassing - especially considering the times that I have visited, there was a maximum of 6 other tables in the restaurant (with at least 3 FOH staff members present). Food is over-priced - especially the only vegetarian menu item being $18 for beans, rice and tofu - and meat-focused. Only reason I continue to go is because of the decent specials for beer. Their draught list is not what I would call a redeeming quality, but better than most places in Guelph.

Nine of us arrived here as part of a friend’s Christmas celebration and ordered drinks. A few tables were marked reserved so we found a small table at which we could place our coats/jackets and a few members of our group could sit, which was notably not marked reserved. Their sole security person at this time (9.30pm) came to the table and advised us this was part of the reserved larger table next to it. In the time it took three people to shuffle out of the booth, with one person from the back of the booth now sitting at the exit of the booth, the security came back with a towel and a confrontional attitude. As we had not cleared the empty table in the short time frame he deemed appropriate, despite having no waiting patrons for this unmarked table, he informed us we could be invited to leave after finishing our drinks. A member of our party spoke with him regarding same and the security became more irate, departing the table which he had by then pushed against the table which was marked reserved, called us “f**king losers” before taking his leave. A member of our party followed him to attempt to address the issue and his extremely poor customer service which resulted in his expulsion from the bar. I remained with my friend to listen to the conversation, the security stood by his position to call customers “f**king losers” and affirmed his comment. A member of staff stood with him, presumably as witness, as he remained outside the conversation. Some bars don’t care about their customer service if they’re busy and that’s their prerogative; but having agitated and confrontational staff is a sure way to guarantee at least 9 people won’t be returning. Otherwise the bar service was prompt, interior was lovely and the inside is immaculate. Would have liked to spend more time there.

Used to visit Royal Electric on a fairly frequent basis however last visit found the staff to be extremely unprofessional. We sent an email to the company to address concerns and never heard back (it's been almost 2 weeks) so it just goes to show that the unprofessional staff is a direct reflection of the organization. The email that we sent was not harsh in any kind of way, and to be honest was way nicer than how we were treated visiting the establishment. We never leave negative reviews but we will never be going back, nor will we recommend friend to go. Note to Magaement: acknowledge and respond to customers. This should be a top priority!

Worse than there being no real vegan friendly options on the menu, the attitude of the staff in regards to the menu options was the opposite of progressive. Instead of the server, host and kitchen staff offering to share with the management that there is interest and demand for alternative options, our server told us we should have chosen a different venue. And I am strongly upset that we didn't. You can smell nicotine and other smoke while out on the back patio, and if it is a weeknight, and you are on the back patio you can expect your server to randomly kick you out at a certain hour so the place can prepare for the flood of university and young drinkers that pour-in (get it) around 9:30? Maybe 10:00? It confirms for diners the that the young bar crowd is the preferred demographic.
