We have the opinions of people who purchase the products and services of Lumos Breakfast House and Chamber of Spirits (Night Club) in the area close to Guelph (Canada).
At present the business receives a score of 4.1 over 5 and that score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is high, and it's based on a high number of feddbacks, so we may say that the rating is quite reliable. If people have bothered to value when they are happy with the service, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to write evaluations when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Night Club belongs to the category of Cafe.
Adorable breakfast place with tons of options and very accommodating of diets and tastes!!
Mmmm food is sooo good and they have gluten free options. A combination of Harry Potter, and a few other nods at some other genre
Food was very terrible. Runny eggs, rotten Avocado! The service was good and they didn’t charge for the bad food and offered another waffle on the house. Hence 2 stars and not 1. Harry Potter theme very underwhelming.
Delicious food, attentive service, and they even split a waffle for my two kids, giving them each their own plate.... Twice! (because they gobbled up the first one so fast and wanted more!) We'll be back!
Wafffffffles!
Really great experience! The staff were awesome and fellow nerds! The atmosphere was great. The food was also really good. Although the options were limited and very few vegan options were available (especially in savoury dishes). They were attentive to dietary needs and allergies. They had milk alternatives! By default, they reduce allergens and make base items vegan. The staff were super helpful and where they could they allowed you to try things before committing (eg the hollandaise). Thank you for the great experience!
I felt underwhelmed by the service, and food.
Amazing atmosphere. Service was great and the food left you feeling comfortably full and not gross! I felt like I was in nerd heaven and will definitely go back! Totally taking family with me next time and we will be dressed up in full cosplay!
Service is insanely slow here and the food is less then satisfying. Limited menu choices and many of them are not that tasty. One of my companions food was so bad none of us would eat it.
A very unique breakfast experience with lots of interesting options and a fun atmosphere! While it still feels new inside as the staff are stretching their legs, I can't wait to go back and I hope they hang around for a long time!
Great food and huge size.
The Lumos Breakfast House and Chamber of Spirits recently opened so I'm unsure this review accurately denotes the establishments ability as this was my personal experience during a recent birthday breakfast. The setting is big, so alot of Harry Potter stuff is needed to give it an authentic feel. The decor has limited paraphernalia and unfortunately lacks the appropriate essence when visiting the themed restaurant. This restaurant is basically a waffle house so plan to order something on a waffle or wrapped in a crepe. I misread the menu and thought I was ordering a Reuben sandwich but recieved a crepe wrapped around the ingredients of a Reuben. Unfortunately the food was below average and doesn't have the wow factor to come back. On top of the product quality the speed of food service was slow. This is the time for the food to arrive and not the initial order taking process which was good. For a simple menu it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive then it appeared in waves. This led to our party of 7 not being able to eat at the same time. The cold food ripple affect pushed the first served to eat while the rest of the table waited, in waves. On a positive side the request to place a candle in a muffin was followed along with a staff round of happy birthday! Overall the restaurant, on this day, was not magical and from my experience I'd not recommend The Lumos to friends.
The menu was completely different from anything I'm used to which was nice. The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it. Our server Austin was very friendly and helpful and even remained calm and professional when the people next to us were making tons of substitutions and ridiculous requests like inquiring about vegan options then ordering a side of ham.
Amazing service and food!!
The food was great and the service was also really good.... I'd definitely recommend this place if you like your waffles or crepes...
Very tasty
The food was average, but I liked the overall atmosphere. Very wizard-y.
Food was pretty good but when we were there (around 4), it was empty which is kind of sad, considering it feels like a place that should be packed. The environment is very magical and you can tell they put a lot of effort into designing the place.
My wife and I were excited to try this place after reading the great reviews. Unfortunately our experience left a very bitter taste.. we were the only patrons in the restaurant and ordered the only thing really available on the menu... Waffles! For a breakfast / brunch place they should’ve offered at least the basics. Waffles weren’t cooked properly they were very dry and not even a whole piece! They were two hacked pieces put together and covered with stuff.. service was meh and if you order the London fog expect it to be watered down just like their maple syrup
Good food, good service. Not many tables so you have to call and make reservations
Super tasty menu and really cool decor.
There was amazing waffles, I loved the hot chocolate with cinnamon wipcream and chocolate on top! Leslie is the best server!
Amazing place! Loved the food and the ambiance! They have good choices of food from savoury waffles, sweet and crepes! We were so lucky to get a walk in seat but they prefer reservations! Cant wait to go back! The food was so quick and fresh!
Great atmosphere inspired by the wizarding world. Food is delicious, both the savoury and the sweet waffles hit the spot. The staff is friendly and a good place to visit if you are a fan of the magical series.
Wow best savoury waffles I've ever had!
Delicious food, huge portions, and a really cool atmosphere!
The waffles were fantastic and fun! My little brother adored his apple waffle as well as all themed paintings. Jordan was our server and super amazing. If you go in, make sure to ask for her!
Such a cool place to visit! Great food - amazing servers! A+++
Lumus and Nox was a great spot! We (2 ad + 2 ch) all enjoyed our various dishes and appreciated that some food items could be swapped out for something else. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful (even offered sightseeing suggestions). Decor and little touches were awesome! They even have some wizarding items for sale. When back in Guelph, will definitely visit again.
Am waiting
Loved it! Beautiful craftsmanship and atmosphere! Waffles are amazing a coffee was superb! A bit weird that they charge extra for maple syrup though. .. cant wait to try the pulled pork waffle! Will be back soon!
Very cool atmosphere, such a unique place but pricey for what you get. Staff are super friendly and kind. Probably better as a bar/hang out than a breakfast joint.
So cool!
Really enjoyed this place. The waffles were really good. I would only recommend creating an option of making your own waffles and crepes (being able to add your own choice of ingredients), and also including a fried chicken waffle. But thank you for such great atmosphere, service and food!
Fantastic place for brunch! It was relatively quiet, the service was prompt and friendly, the servings were good sizes and the menu had interesting variations on waffles (both sweet and savoury!) and other things. Even a friend who came with me who has allergies to gluten and dairy easily found a menu option for lunch. The themed atmosphere was so well put together, and all of the different displays were absolutely fantastic! (For example -the dragon's head on the bar had smoke coming from its nostrils!). I also loved the mounted mystical animals on the walls, and the painted runes and bowtruckles hidden around. Highly, highly recommended!
Great little spot that just opened. It's new, so it's not quite what you'd call polished, but it is a fun spot with good food. They have their own houses if you want to get sorted!
Limited menu, food was okay. Service was EXCELLENT. Kind of an odd theme, like "as much Harry Potter as we can get away with without paying for the copyright".
Not celiac-friendly. I went on Victoria Day and the restaurant was out of gluten-free batter and one of he gluten-free muffin flavours. I had travelled from London, Ontario. Definitely call ahead if you have dietary restrictions. My dining companions enjoyed their meals, but I sure didn't.
Great theme restaurant. Prices for breakfast were 10-15$. Lots to look at for potter fans. Food menu was limited.
Really bad service.
We are glad to see their evening menu finally open. There is an interesting Old Fashioned that is smoked with hickory chips on their drinks menu.
Took my grand children there on Friday approximately 2.5 hrs. after opening. It was not busy. We were advised they did not have muffins and the crepe machine was not working. My grand daughter's order contained an ingredient which we requested be omitted. There was no apology or discounted price (just a disappointed hungry child). I received a latte?? I think there was coffee. The price did not match the quality of the food (it is over priced). My grand children were not impressed and spent our dining conversation on how they would improve the restaurant and the store. The whole experience I wanted to enjoy with them fell short. We were all so excited to go and this experience fell short.
Not enough Harry Potter memorabilia.
Not bad! A good atmosphere that would be even better if the place were busy and bustling. It was tragically quiet when I went. I had the avocado Benedict waffle. They just need to work a few kinks out and then they can open their nox side of things. It should be a fun time as a bar too. If you’re into wizard swag, they have that too.
Tasty waffles and friendly staff. My friend really enjoyed her London Fog! A sweet treat and the wizard (HP ish) theme is neat.
Service is amazing. Food is fantastic.
Filling. Very filling. Great service.
Amazing food and set up. Most of the staff is very friendly and welcoming. Highly reccomend for all ages.
Nice meal, surprised by how filling the waffle and toppings were. Would go back again.
The food was pretty tasty. The environment was cool too! Little trinkets from Harry Potter and other films to look at. One thing holding me back from giving this 5 stars was the time it took to get our food. Hopefully as this establishment becomes more experienced they can improve on their speed.
This establishment was appealing on the outside until we actually experienced it... First Impression: Upon arrival, we were lined up at the door for our reservation at noon 5 minutes before. We waited patiently with 5-10 minutes before being greeted and were sat without verification of a reservation. The uniforms at the restaurant didn't justify the theme of the place since our server wore pattern pink and black leggings and didn't match anyone else's attire. She also had little knowledge of the menu. Service: Once we ordered our drinks, it took 10 minutes, to which our orange juice tasted diluted and my friend's "flat white" had no caffeine in it so we had to order another shot of espresso. She also did not take the time to follow up for anyone or offer our caffeine drinker any sugar or spoon. Once a half hour passed while waiting for the food, not once were we offered refills and our beverages had gone empty and cold. Meanwhile... there was a party of TEN that hadn't be served yet and they were waiting long before we had arrived. The couple sitting to us prior looked unhappy when they received their food, inhaled it in seconds and walked off immediately. About 45 minutes in, there was a larger wait for the next reservations coming through even though almost nobody in the restaurant had gotten their food left. Food: After an HOUR, our server almost wrongly gave our order to a table that had just sat down and we received our sad little "waffle fries" with garlic/parmesean and marinara sauce... they were poorly cut waffles that were stuck together, with the lightest dusting of the bottled parm and no sign of garlic. So in keep in mind, it took an hour to make this. Mains: We received our food an additional 20 minutes later and all the garnishes were presented poorly, the food was lukewarm? And because the machine broke, we could only get scrambled eggs instead of poached eggs like how the menu described, although it's a breakfast/brunch restaurant, correct? Our server then chuckled lightly just realizing we all received our food but had no cutlery. As we barely touched our meals, my crêpe was actually an overcooked pancake, the potatoes were cold on the inside, and the third dish had a LONG hair in it. Result: The manager was running in and out of the store so there was no follow up, even after it was obvious that an issue had arisen. When my server returned with the last dish, she explained that the debit machine kept losing internet connection, that a breakfast place has only two waffle makers and once crepe maker for a venue that sits approximately 30-34 people. As unimpressed as I was, we tried to finish everything but were so disappointed that we went up to pay while our server was slowly rolling cutlery, avoiding eye contact. She messed up our bills twice and after that, I just paid a little more than I should so she wouldn't stress herself out. I caught the manager eventually and I told him about everything and how I understood that mess ups may happen. The only two things he said was: 1. Did you tell your server? 2. It won't be like this next time. Response: Of course I didn't say anything to my server because she never came around and went to scurry in a corner. 2. Do you realize how guest recovery works? Because if that was your response for avoiding your guests and not making an effort to be sincere and apologize, then there obviously won't be a next time for almost anyone that was there. Overall: The place has SOME potential, I don't blame any other staff because they seemed phenomenal, calm, and collected. Thanks to the chefs that had to work with broken equipment, but the publicity of this place was sincerely overrated. I even heard from a friend that went to day before that the wait for food was the exact same wait time! So please know that I was patient and extremely kind to all the staff but it was truly the worst customer service I have ever received in my life.
Pretty fun, but the menu doesn't go far enough. Like no butter beer or something similar on the menu. It's like they stopped at a 6 when they should have gone to 10.
This is one of the most fun breakfast experiences I have ever had. The decor sets the magical mood perfectly. If you are looking for sweet or savoury, they have you covered. Enjoy it with butter beer. Our host, Jordan, was very kind and made us feel right at home. They are also very accommodating to dietary restrictions. Highly recommended.
My family and I traveled here and the restaurant was unexpectedly closed. We are big H@rry P0tter fans (trademarking issue) and returned two days later. They remembered us and squeezed us in without a reservation. They really worked to give us a great experience and all 4 of us were very happy with our meal. Great customer service! Highly recommended. Call ahead to ensure your table.
The atmosphere is nice and entertaining, and the decor is a real treat for Happy Potter fans. But the absolutely AMAZING part is the food! Oh my gosh the waffles were phenomenal!!! I really could not imagine how to make it better. I had both the Lumos and Nox waffle and the Shazam and I would GLADLY come up from Seattle again to eat here. Cannot recommend enough. The waffles are out of this world good.
I was here about a month ago with my friends. When my friend said lets get waffles, we thought just regular waffles. We were surprised by what we got and it was delicious. Also it was the first time I was full from a waffle.
Fantastic place! Our server Summer split our waffles in half without us asking because we mentioned off hand that we were splitting them! Everything was delicious - and the coffee was good too! Highly recommend. Attached is a photo of me in the bathroom where I match the Hufflepuff banner!
What a fun restaurant! It’s Harry Potter themed and my family loved it. There’s a gift shop in the back with lots of Harry Potter items like wands and outfits. The food was great too. My crape was made to perfection and had Montreal smoked meat. Delicious! The location was lit to fit the mood. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean with hints of old architecture that fit the design. Excellent job!
Cool spot for a one time thing. Very expensive but the food was good .
Fantastic food. Great atmosphere. The best staff in Guelph. You can't go wrong here!
This place used to my favorite brunch place to stop at between London and Toronto, until recently they changed their hours to be open only Saturdays and Sundays.....????????
Super disappointed that I didn't get the chance to experience this place. Booked a reservation over 2 weeks ago for my husband's birthday. It turns out they changed their hours without notifying me so we drove an hour and a half to discover a closed restaurant. Very disappointed in the lack of communication and customer service.
Overall an okay experience. We went for brunch on a Sunday morning, the service was timely and polite. There was no wait time for our reserved table. The selection was broad enough for everyone in our party. Everyone enjoyed their drinks (flat white, Americano, and black tea). The food, however, wasn't quite worth the cost. The portions sizes were good, as was the base waffle. But the quality of the waffle toppings was lacking the poached eggs weren't cooked long enough and the whites were gooey. In the garlic and cheese crepes the garlic was raw. I'd recommend you order sweet waffles, as those looked better than what we ordered.
Expresso ????.. Chicken and waffles ???? spicy sweet.. Execellent...
DO NOT GET THE HOT CHOCOLATE. It takes like water
It was good but nothing special. Different some unique waffles options.
Can’t wait to go
The atmosphere is pretty cool and the menu is funny. Some positives were that the service was good, the food came relatively quickly and the high chair they brought us was great for little babes. 1) I would assume a brunch place open to 2:30 would have some sort of alcoholic options. There is no real drink menu other than coffee and tea selections. We tried to get mimosas but they wouldn't open a sparkling wine. That's fine! How about a beer? Or a beermosa? Nope sorry they don't have beer. Ok then... hmmm maybe I'll just have a tea. My mom did really enjoy her cappuccino after all so not a huge deal BUT then I noticed they had butter beer which was not on the menu! It was too late by then. Oh well 2) the food was expensive and not very good. My mom got the Shaz-ham waffle which was fine but dry. She had to pay 2 extra dollars for real maple syrup. I had the accio avocadio benedictio (avocado eggs Benedict). First it only came with one egg (for $12 and change I'd expect 2) which was not quite cooked enough. The dish had a strange flavour which took a while to figure out. Is it the wafffle? Is it the red dust? Is it the hollandaise? Finally I concluded: not the waffle (although this waffle tastes like a sweet waffle, not the advertised garlic and herb waffle). Not the dust which I think was just paprika. Definitely the hollandaise... which is not hollandaise at all. It was cold and I suspect it was merely mayo with curry powder added to it. I hate curry powder flavour and this thing was loaded with it. I'm still burping it up 4 hours later. Not good and very disappointing.
Very creative menu and fun environment
Pleasantly surprised and happy . Cool place

Cant wait to visit. ????????

Delicious and filling! A wonderful and fun atmosphere with great food. Worth a stop for any fan of the fantasy genre or Harry Potter fans in particular.
Came to this place for breakfast from Vaughan. My daughter is a fan of Harry Potter however the place is cute nothing special but the service & food is terrible. I mean bad. They dont have enough staff . The waitress takes your order without a pad then comes & asks " what did you order again" we had to ask them to take our order after sitting there for 25 min. They simply forgot. It only has 10 tables. Not very big at all. This restaurant just opened this week & when I asked for 2 items on the menu there was none is stock. Pick something else I was told. When the food came my wife bit into her food & had several eggshells in her dish .How can you screw that up. I had the worst crepe I have ever tried to eat . It had minced garlic from a jar. Not tasty at all. My son's waffle was soggy . Poor service & food. Will not repeat. The only reason I'm writing this is so that people dont waste their time by going there. Not worth the drive even if the food was bareable. My wife walked out of the restaurant even before we paid because she was so upset with the quality of service, lack of attention & definitely the quality of food. My 14 yr. Old son makes better dishes. If I could post a 0 I would. Shame on you. Good concept , very poor execution.
The only thing this place needs to solve is how to fit more people on Saturday and Sunday morning. We squeezed in on our second attempt because someone else missed their reservation by two minutes. If you plan to go on Sat or Sunday morning call ahead and reserve. The waffle I had was devine. They have sweet and protein menu items. The decor is awesome and you can buy wands even. People in capes kept coming in. The service was friendly and scrambling to keep up. Best of luck to this great little waffle house!
It wasn't bad, but want great. The garlic and cheese crepe left a lot to be desired and piling all the minced garlic in the middle of the crepe shouldn't be done. The garlic should be evenly distributed throughout. I'm not sure if I'll go back, but if you haven't been there, you should go and at least see the place.
I decided to make an account just to write this as it's been bothering me. I was here with my daughter yesterday, the food was okay if not a bit expensive. The waitress was lovely (Dianna I believe? Started with D.) but the poor girl was running around the full restaurant by herself while her manager just stood around. I watched as she asked him to help her just by pouring some glasses of water and you should have seen the sneer he gave her before telling her to do it herself! He shortly left her there completely swamped and alone, it took almost an hour for our food and that putz of a manager didn't lift a finger. Very disappointed, won't be returning.
No british fares which is very, very odd to me. I figured there would be like an english breakfast on the menu but nope just dessert waffles and a few savoury, along with dessert crepes and a couple savoury crepes, a couple salads and parfaits. They had no actually tables available (reserved tables though) so we sat at a bar size table, and the reserved tables were still not used when we left... Lots of HP realm looking items, however nothing had price tags, so it was a russian roulette at the till. Finally, the business' name suggest that they would have a drinks menu. They didn't. Oh, and if you're going to name everything on your menu weirdly, how about your servers don't pointedly correct people's pronounciations like the customers are idiots? Was so excited to go here, waiting even a few monthes past opening so there wasn't new place kinks, still didn't have the greatest experience. Also butter beer cup was awful to drink out of, get some paper straws.
I was disappointed with what this turned out to be. The atmosphere is not the best, it feels like it falls very short. The decoration is more or less contained to the walls, and the music being played is mostly just loud and annoying. I ordered a waffle with apple pie filling on it. The waffle was fine, although the pie filling was overly thick and sticky. I also ordered a chai latte which just tasted like hot water and milk (The spices on the top were nice though). I dont think I would go back again for breakfast. Positive note: our server was friendly and personable.
It is a Harry Potter style themed restaurant with decor and food to match. Our server was a Slytherin, but that was ok because she was an absolute delight, who did a great job and was most helpful and attentive. Food choices are both sweet and savoury, waffle or crepe based, and also with salad choices. I had a tough time choosing because of the tempting choices and finally settles on the pulled pork waffle. This was my first ever savoury waffle, and I was very impressed with it! The sour cream was a perfect accompaniment to the tender tasty pulled pork on the perfectly cooked waffle.
Went for trivia tonight... had a FANTASTIC time!!! Austin was a very charming and attentive server and our game master with the red hair (and hand me down robes... sorry we didnt get your name) was such a sweetie. Not to mention the food was amazing! Cant wait for the next trivia night!
The theme was really neat but missed the mark a few times. A lot of stuff that's not Harry Potter related (like the Lord of the Rings) and they have two TVs that play trivia images, they should be playing the Harry Potter movies continuously. At the very least they could have Harry Potter movie music. Never tried the food but had the Wolfsbane drink, I didnt like it at all (too bitter), the rest of the drinks seemed weird (a couple might be enjoyable but I feel like they could have made better Harry Potter themed drinks, I blame Guelph as being a hipster town). The service was great though, the server gave me more pineapple juice to help cut the bitterness.
