Went here for my surprise birthday with a bunch of my close friends. Very memorable and fun experience. They booked a private room with a stunning water front view. Scenery was amazing decor was amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable on explained to us different cuts of meat, pairing wine and dish recommendations. Overall very good food from start to finish and lovely restaurant would recommend date nights here as its on the pricier side :)

Absolutely stellar service. I booked a reservation for my anniversary, and the staff took care of so well. My SO ordered a porterhouse steak. Our waitress brought the steak to us before it was cooked to see if we liked it. I got lamb, and it was cooked to perfection. They also gave us chocolate mousse with a candle in it to celebrate with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. This restaurant is definitely on the pricier side, but if you're looking for a very romantic spot for a special occasion, this is it.

Best thing about this place is the service! Very friendly staff that are on point. I hope they get a raise! Food is great. Ambiance is great. They inform you about the steaks and how they are cooked on maplewood. They also show you your steaks. One tip: if you are like me and like your steak not in a pool of blood but a bit of pink and a little tiny bit of blood is ok, get the medium or medium rare. I mistakenly got the medium well done and my bf got the medium rare. His was better tasting and more flavourful. Mine was still good but his was better.

It's a place for dinner where there is no rush by the restaurant to kick you out. Easily spent three hours for the set menu, which is a very good value.

Do not like leaving these kind of reviews, but in this case I really want to share my experience. Started with the first minute when a waitress pulled the menu out of my hand with a little negative vibe. I tried do not think about it too much, and considered it as of he fatigue and an awkward moment. We had a reservation at 8pm. She started to serve us at 8:40 and we drinks and food at the same time since we have been waiting for so long already. So, the first drinks we got at 9pm. We were keep asking to have some bread at least, "It is in the oven' - that was an answer... okay Finally we received our appetizers at 9:30 (1,5 HOURS WE GOT THERE). 10pm!!! I was about to go home, and it was a challenge to find our girl just to cancel the order. I did. So I asked her if they did not start to cook my meal yet I would like to cancel. She told me she just was about to let me know that they run out of salmon... while doing that, she was bringing the meal to my friends... I was just wondering if I would not cancel, how she would explain me the situation that after 2 hours of waiting I am sitting around the people with no food...hmmm very interesting. I've been there before but never ever had this kind of service. like wow... disappointed.. If food is not delicious I would never share this experience. Bus the unmannerly way my friends and I got treated + the extremely long waiting time gives me the right to sat that I would not recommend going there.

My husband and I wanted to go out for the first time since the pandemic hit and were looking forward to a night out at Sterling. Unfortunately, the whole experience was thoroughly disappointing... We had made reservations on the patio since it has a view on the Gatineau river. Within minutes of sitting down, we realized how noisy it was! The patio is within feet of the street and there are no noise barriers to block the loud cars and motorcycles going by. In addition, we kept getting whiffs of septic smell coming from the sewer on the street. Unfortunately the food did not offer any redemption for the issues I mentioned above. We ordered the table d'hôte at $85 (+tax and tip) which included a soup, appetizer, main course and desert. My husband ordered the tuna and I ordered the steak. The food was mediocre and that's an overstatement. For a restaurant whose claims to fame is their steak, it was no better than any steak I've had in restaurants that charge $35-40 for a filet mignon (Theirs is $65!!!) The appetizers were nothing special. Only redeeming qualities were the service and the tuna my husband ordered. We will never go back - the food is way overrated and the location on the river overshadowed by the noise.

Excellent from start to finish. Best French onion soup I’ve probably had. The escargot and beef tartar also excellent. Superb wine list, great ambience, with incredible service. They even treated us to a comped shared dessert. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our second anniversary. A must-try.

Excellent service and beautiful place. The steaks we had were probably the best we’ve ever had. Our server recommended the Papa’s Cut and we were both happy we took the suggestion. Jumbo shrimp cocktail app and creme brûlée dessert also both on point. They gave us a little tour on the way out and explained the quality of their sterling silver steaks. Well worth the money and we will be back. Highly recommended.

We were a party of 4. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The twice baked potato and vegetables were very nice. We all enjoyed our appetizers (beef tartar, Greek salad and escargot I a pastry with goat cheese). The wine list was fabulous and reasonable. The service was was very good and the timing of each course was perfect without being rushed. Our waiter was very astute and noticed a Birthday card so made the a special presentation of the dessert for the person celebrating their birthday. Enjoyed the experience.

Can't give a zero, otherwise I would have done that. We were in this place on July 2021 to say farewell to a friend who was leaving the town for good. We wanted a fancy place with good view and good food to leave ourselves a good memory. I am usually not the kind of person who write unfair reviews. I think it is not moral to undermine other's reputation for no reason. But this is place is really overrated: From a gang of 6 people, four of us (from different households) had heartburn and Diarra on the night of this event. We couldn't sleep the whole night. Aside from this very disappointing event that is called food poisoning, the food tasted very poor, for sure, not measuring up to the level of a restaurant that charges 100$/person. I called to report all our dissatisfactions and nobody got back to me. For the sake of raising awareness, I am going to ask everyone from the party to step up and write their reviews here.

I had one of the worst eating experiences at this restaurant for a friend's bachelor party last night. The first of a series of unfortunate events was the hair I found in my soup - the first of a 4 course meal. The wait between meals was around 45 minutes. One of my friends only got a 12oz Serloin steak while the rest of us got our appetizers, so he waited 2 hours for his main meal and a loaf of bread that they provided every hour. We were starving and tried getting a waiter to notify us what was happening, and they just walked away and ignored us. The rest of the meals were sub-par and disappointing. The one positive note was they poured us water frequently. But to top it all off, the worst of it all, was when we finished paying out bill. We each agreed the service was terrible and didn't deserve a tip, especially for the $100/meal experience you think you would get. After we paid, the server was occasionally bumping my chair aggressively while walking by. I'm sure it was "by accident", but it was very clear it wasn't after the 3rd time. Then my friend got out of the bathroom and told us a server just shoulder checked him while he was walking back to the table! This was objectively a cruel and overwhelming disappointing end to our friends bachelor party. You should be ashamed.

It was our first time dining at Sterling and we ended up enjoying our night so much that we couldn't resist not paying them another visit the following week. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice. It's a classy high end restaurant, but not one of those places were you have to whisper to the people at your table because of how quite it is. The start of the show was the food. I had the rack of lamb, and it was absolutely amazing. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Definitely worth a visit :)

Our dining experience is was not very good last evening. We have eaten here before but this particular meal (Filet) was not up to the restaurants billing or our expectations. Although the steak was tender and tasty the salad was very average as were the vegetables. Most surprising was the poor service. We waited an hour to get our meal and It took quite a while to get the cheque so we could leave. No plans to return.

The steaks were perfectly cooked. I'd highly suggest this spot if you love good meat . The desserts were great as well. The sorbet had a fresh infusion of lime and mint. It was quite refreshing . The servers are what you'd expect at a high scale place. They were attentive and timely. They were present but not intrusive. Overall it was a spectacular experience . Highly recommended.

5/5 ambiance 6/5 customer service 4/5 food $$$$$ A degustation of the year for me and my family. This was straight up on of my top culinary experiences I've had to date in Gatineau. Starting with their entry way where you can see right into the kitchen, and see the dedicated chefs at work. The waiters are very knowledgeable on their menu, though a little rusty on the wines but all around helpful. The steaks are cut and brought to the customer before being meticulously made into a savoury and intensly flavoured dish. It is pricey, and the all around environment proves it's worth 100%. So if you like meat and warmness, this is the spot.

This is the best steakhouse in Gatineau, in my opinion. The prices are adequate for the quality of the food. My girlfriend loved their seafood as well. The location is gorgeous, the patio view is splendid. Last night I ordered a table d'hôte filet mignon, and she ordered sea food languini. The portions were surprisingly big. Loved it. About out to Marc our waiter for a professional and cheerful service.

Food was good, but the waitress told us that each shrimp we ordered with our $55 dollar steak was $10 each but they were $12. So our 6 shrimps came to $72. Extremely expensive. Steaks was over cooked. The steak was not even in size throughout, so the outside going towards the bone was medium, middle was medium rate and bone area was rare like I wanted. That was for my partner and our friends steak. It was a good experience. But not worth the $310 I spent for two. That no appetizer or dessert.

Sterling is definitely one of the best steakhouses, service and food are excellent. It is on the pricier side but you get what you paid for. My steak had a great seared crust and a perfect medium rare interior. To top it off, you can enjoy the river view on their terrace during hotter days.

If you want to try the best steak in Ottawa go to this restaurant. It has a absolutely luxurious, fancy decoration for their wines and customers. Also, the servers are friendly and helpful for you in order to if you don't know what kind of steak is your favorite steak, they explain to you the best one. The main point is that the flavor and the taste of their steaks are amazing, and extremely delicious. I chose Papa's Cut, which was phenomenal and tasty.

Beautiful restaurant, the service staff was amazing and the wine was fantastic. My husband and I went there for my birthday and we had the table d'hote. The soup and appetizers were great. However, my entree was quite disappointing. I had the lobster Thermidor with macaroni and cheese. First up, the presentation was lacking. Everything was just slapped on the plate, without care. The pasta tasted like it was boxed or I highly doubt it was made fresh that day. The lobster was chewy and overcooked. Having my doubts about whether it was fresh or frozen. It was very mediocre and for a restaurant like Sterling's, I expect far better than mediocre, especially for the price. If I wanted boxed pasta and overcooked lobster, I would've stayed home. Pretty disappointing birthday dinner.

Excellent service and ambiance. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the view of the river. We are both on the Keto diet and were pleasantly surprised when the waiter said he was too and would ensure that our meals were keto friendly. I had a medium rare fillet mignon, which was perfectly cooked along with asparagus spears in butter. He even suggested keto friendly drinks to go with our meal. Will definitely go back.

I had the task of trying to find a restaurant for a large group surprise birthday dinner over the Easter weekend. I chose Sterling based on word of mouth and reviews. Our party ranged from 7-75 year olds, foodies and non-foodies and picky eaters/people with dietary restrictions. Our entire group was extremely impressed with everything start to finish. The host and the servers went above and beyond to accommodate our unique party. Even the host toured the kids around the kitchen and showed them how the steaks were prepared. My family is still talking about this evening weeks later! Would highly recommend

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Sterling and it was amazing. The food was luscious and the wine was fit for a king. The meat was so tender and well seasoned, we were amazed with every single bite. We easily spent three hours in this ambient restaurant enjoying each other's company. This was well worth the price.

Very pricey and out of the way. Go at night to experience the worm atmosphere. The food was "ok" but lots of better places for the $230 dinner. Needs to be cleaner.. lots of crumbs in the cushions and walls need to be washed and the kitchen seems a little old and rundown.

The atmosphere was nice but it was all show and no substance. The restaurant was very nice looking but the food was very poor quality. The seafood (shrimp and scallops) were overcooked. When it came to my steak I asked for medium rare and it was more on the rare side which is typically ok but the quality of the meat was not very good and it made difficult to cut through with all of the tough gristle going through the steak. The server was very nice and sociable though.Would not recommend this restaurant as the food was not good.

Started off perfect - Excellent appetizers (Oysters, Kale Salad, Escargot, Beef tartar) and greeted with exceptional service. - Also accommodated us moving inside the restaurant after it was a bit cold outside with the beautiful view. Once appetizers were finished, service and food were mediocre. It took approximately 45- An hour to get our steaks (Top Sirloin - medium rare, 2x NY Steaks - rare). Our waitress kindly reminded us that our food would not take much longer, as it usually doesn't take that long. Unfortunately, my steak was dry and overdone and my partners steak was done incorrectly. We have both worked in the service industry in the past and didn't want to put a fuss. You could see that the staff were extremely busy as they must have had a big party come in. We were very full from our delicious appetizers that we all ate only half of our steaks. We requested to have it wrapped up. Unfortunately, our food was tossed out and they remedied the problem by offering us 1 uncooked steak. Fortunately, we had a BBQ the next day, so it worked out. For the price point of the restaurant, I do expect exceptional service. The service at the beginning was phenomenal, but went down hill after the restaurant was busy (it was a Saturday). I would say I received the same service as an East Side Marios (Friendly greeting and and limited communication). I still tipped 22% since both my partner and I have worked in the service industry in the past (It's not easy). However, I guess for the special occasion, this restaurant let me down. I may try this restaurant again when it's not so busy. You could see the potential of this place.

It was our first visit and I hope it was an off night for them because the experience was poor. Very slow service, food not worth the price. The waiter seemed to be serving too many tables and spent a lot of time with regular customers and neglected the rest of us. The shrimps were good, the salad was soggy, the steak was tough but tasty and seemed like it was served long after it was cooked, the cheese cake was the smallest portion I have ever seen, and the camomile tea was lukewarm. Other dinner customers seemed equally underwhelmed by the service. I think they are understaffed after the pandemic but for the price, they must deliver better.

Food was top top notch and so was the service. A little annoyed that when we booked online, I told them it was our anniversary and I'd like a quiet table away from the high traffic area, we got the absolute opposite of that as they seated us first table right at the top of the stairs. Initially I thought they just never got my Request from the website, but then they brought us a complimentary anniversary desert. (which was a nice touch), so they obviously got the memo. Despite the small hiccup, we thoroughly enjoyed our food, the service was excellent, and the live pianist was a nice bonus.

My all time favourite place . Food was as usual great. Other then a good scallop”over cooked for my liking” But the lack of one of the stars was for the service. It was good but not the way I expect when I spend a lot . We were sat at an undesirable table when we made a reservation for our anniversary . Wine knowledge was poor and I felt a nose up type of service with the service starting to get better as he saw our bill was getting larger and larger. It was funny I liked the support server more and ordered everything from him and asked him for advice on the menu and wine list instead of the server . Anyways , still a great experience and the steak is second to no one ! I’m always impressed when that steak enters my mouth. The fat melts and the flavour of the hard wood grill creates a steak experience no replicable .

Pricey but worth every penny. The "table d'hote" is a pretty fair deal: includes soup of the day, a choice of 3 appetizers, a handful of entrees, and a dessert for $70. Everything was delicious. They'll actually bring you your raw steak and show it to you before cooking it over a maple wood fire grill. Staff very knowledgable, extensive wine selection ranging from $50 bottles, to $12,000 bottles (yes, that says twelve thousand). Not somewhere you'll go every week but definitely somewhere worth going for any special event, or if you have the cooperate credit card and are looking to make a good impression on some clients.

I had the 12 ounces NY cut. It was cooked exactly like I wanted, however the cut was difficult to eat since it was really hard for some reason. Now why I'm giving it three stars... We asked for tea at the end of the meal and the teapot looked like it had never been washed. This is not something you expect from a restaurant like Sterling.

Went there as a surprise from my wife for my birthday. She is a vegetarian but knows I like a good steak so she picked this place. First up, I hate paying a lot of money for a meal no matter how good the food is, I always regret paying so much for just one meal, but at Sterling, my wife and I ate and were treated like royalty, we had wine, food was amazing, they cooked a special dish for her since she can't eat meat, and the bill at the end didn't make me regret coming at all. Don't get me wrong, this is not a place we could afford to come often, but for the quantity and quality of food we had, the cost wasn't bad at all. I left the restaurant very full, very satisfied, and without a feeling that we were robbed out of our savings. I definitely recommend this place, the food is delicious, the staff was very friendly, the owner is definitely proud of his establishment and makes sure everyone is happy with the experience, really a great place. Oh and of course the view was great, can't wait for construction to be completed.

ALRIGHT here's a story and a review for you guys. My fiancé and I were looking for a recently priced nice meal for our first anniversary, we were doing a trip in Ottawa. Sterling was close to where we were, looked alright, and had no $ on Google, which typically represents the price range. We assumed it would be on the cheaper side. We were WROOONG. But!! It was a very happy "mistake," if you will. I LOVE wine, and we were taken on a mini tour of their wine room, shown $7000 bottles of wine, given a couple of stories, it was actually quite nice! We were seated and they had the BEST warm bread on the table. (I tried to take some home but they just ended up all soft the next morning lol!) We got to sit on a nice half circled table in front of a fireplace, still with a view of the restaurant and slightly outside a window across the room. It was really nice and really seemed private. We got wonderful service. Their beef, you're shown before it's cooked to get your approval. I forget how it was done (raised/cut/aged? Something very impressive) and oh my god it was SOOOOO good!!!! And the potatoes were so good! It was all wonderful! I got their house wine and it was delicious! It is absolutely five stars! We were totally underdressed and not fit for the occasion but it was such a wonderful time with such wonderful service and phenomenal food. BUT: incase anyone is looking for the cheaper side, 2 least expensive steaks and house wine was $150! Much more than we ever do, but it was a visit we don't regret.

My Boyfriend and I went last night, Friday July 10. There is no AC and we never got offered food for about 45 minutes, ordered a bottle of wine and they said it was warm and poured us one glass and said the rest of the bottle needed to "chilled". Multiple waitresses walked by us several of times and no one asked for food. It was clear we were ordering food because I asked about certain foods (e.g. steak tacos, steak sizes) on the menu and we asked for a few extra time to look at the menu upon arrival. We finally got sick of it and left. We will never go back.

Massive service failure. So disappointing. First off, we love Sterling. My husband loves their steak tartar and we wanted to go somewhere special for our third wedding anniversary tonight. We booked a month and a half in advance and had been excited and looking forward to a classy dinner. We were seated at a table in the middle of a big Christmas party. There were tables full of gifts, everyone was standing, milling around, and being incredibly loud. (As they should, they were having a party.) It was unbearably loud and uncomfortable, so we requested to be moved, but there were no other tables for two. We were simply told that “It’s Christmas”. People shouting and bumping into our chairs was not the atmosphere we signed up for, so we left. We tried two other restaurants, but given the time on a Friday night, both were full. So we ended up at home ordering Chinese, having egg rolls and resentment for our anniversary dinner. This is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review for a restaurant.

This restaurant has without question been the best steak experience I have ever had. Not once, but twice, and I have only ever been at Sterling twice lol. The wine list is expansive to say the very least, over the top even, including 20+ and 30+ year old or extremely rare bottles. It can be pricey yes, but if you are smart about it, it doesn't have to be. Certainly not any more than any other steak house. If you are bewitched by The Keg or similar, having a steak here and especially the experience that comes with it, will make you feel like you are eating a steak for the very first time. That is how outer-worldly they are, no exaggeration. The sides are very well done, thought out and delicious, not thrown together like other houses. Unless I am invited in a group and they happen to go to another steakhouse, ok I will go. Otherwise I am done with eating a steak anywhere else than here.... well except on my BBQ and as good as they are, they suck compared to Sterling. Can't wait for next visit :-)

Oh my goodness. Husband and I attended a group dinner here. The preset menu choices were difficult to decide between. I ended up having the Mediterranean Salad for my starter and the Filet Mignon for my entree. I was not disappointed! My steak was served exactly how I wanted it. It practically melted in my mouth. The roasted veggies were divine and neither over nor under cooked. And the wine!! I started with white and ended with red (I didn't pay attention to the types- sorry) and both were very nice. The selection was enormous. I don't know much about wine (I just enjoy drinking it), but a few of the people at my table said that they have some very good wines there. The desert was also phenomenal. It was a dark chocolate wedge with a ganache-like texture served with blueberry and peach (?) coulis and an espresso flavoured whipped squirt of cream. Yum. I look forward to next years dinner, and hopefully at least one more visit before that.
