The atmosphere in the 540 is laid back and relaxing while being an upbeat, fun place to take friends to a great meal. Recently went to lunch and the meal was fantastic. The roasted tomato soup and grilled cheese impressed my wife to no end and she still talks about it. I was equally impressed with my Diner Burger meal and with the selection of craft beers. The 540 introduced me to a favourite craft brewery of mine, Trailways and their Coffee Stout. The menu changes occasionally, not sure if it's seasonal, but it's always good and they try to source locally. This is a restaurant you should visit when in Fredericton.

Highly recommended place for lunch. This was my first time here. Butter chicken was delicious and for dessert, the cheesecake was the best cheesecake I've ever had! Also, service was friendly. It was quite busy when I was here and now I know why, yum! Dishes were reasonably priced for portion. Will definitely return! I'm told the rum cake was devine so next time I'll be trying that!

Used to like this place more. Past few times the food hasn't really done it for me and the drinks were also a miss. Really bad sense of privacy, you will sometime come in and feel that you can hear every table competing to hear one another. Small.

One of the best place to eat and have a drink in Fredericton! I went with my girlfriend a few days ago and everything was perfect. We ate on the patio and our server was exemplary. Great choice of beer and they will let you try some if you are unsure on which one to take. The food is amazing and not too pricey. I definitely recommend this place :)

After a few years of being open, 540 has taken the title of top restaurant in Fredericton for me. This may seem like an odd combo, but to me, it's really got a quirky sort of elegance that no one where else in town has. The menu is always fresh and inventive, and the drink selection is always great, if you're into that. The perfect place for lunch, dinner, or even just grabbing a drink.

Decent food, been here multiple times for work lunches and dinners. Was disappointed with my lamb dish, the taste was there but the lamb was not trimmed of fat and I paid about $35 to eat lamb fat. Service is ok, don't have to wait too long for food. Their Caesars will be different each time you order one! They add different ingredients and garnish to each glass. I had asked them if they knew how to make a paralyzers and they said they did but it was awful. Overall decent food.

Great place to go and have a local beer or a cocktail before heading out to the club or back home to Netflix and chill. Ten local beers on tap. Good menu selection. I had the #yfcburgerchallange Dane burger. Very juicy and tasty two handed burger made of pork. The dripping sauce for the fries complement very well.

While the food I quite delicious, the speed of service is a little on the slower side. It took us an hour and a half to get two apps and main meals. I can completely understand busy days and the ambience is quite nice. The servers are all amazing. Just be prepared to be there a little longer if it's a busy day.

What a delicious meal. My brother's steak had a bit too much fat for his liking on it but I had one of the best pork bellies ever. The curry salmon was cooked perfectly and had just enough heat. The burger made with local beef and fries were also fantastic. Chocolate for dessert had so many flavours and textures it was light enough to eat even after all that pork belly.

Our first time at 540 3 years ago was a rather good experience and for the subsequent two times we've been here, we have been very disappointed with the food. I keep wanting to give them another chance but tonight's meal leaves no room for that I'm afraid. The pappardelle ragu with caramelized onion toasts sounded good enough but the pasta was far to heavily sauced and the onions on the toasts were pickled, not caramelized. The lamb curry with barley also sounded good however, for $26 one would expect it to contain some lamb however, most of the lamb was grizzle and fat as evidenced by the attached photo (BTW that is a pile of fat, not lamb). I won't add any further comments because I don't want to get going. I really and truly wanted tonight's dinner to be the one that convinced me that things have changed there, however, I won't be going back.

I am featuring 540 Kitchen & Bar Gastropub in Fredericton, NB! A casual neighbourhood restaurant that prides itself on good food and locally sourced. Taste- Absolutely loved the Jerk Chicken. All the flavours worked so well together. The chicken was perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. For dessert our table tried different dishes. All were fantastic desserts. Not many people like small menus but I believe this restaurant flourishes on quality. Everyone at our table raved about their dishes! Portion/Presentation- Very generous portions! And pretty presentation. Price- prices ranged from $10-$15 CDN for lunch. Service- Awesome! We basically rushed over during lunch time. They were able to accommodate a party of 8 pretty quick on their patio. After we were seated the place filled up fast. Our server offered great suggestions and made sure to check in often despite the busyness of the restaurant. Location- along downtown Fredericton. Everything I've tried on their menu was delicious, can't go wrong. Fantastic service and great beers, although I wish you could see the beer selection better from the dining area or if they had a tap menu. Cocktails are solid too. They're packed around dinner so get a reservation. Pricey but worth it.

I have been here twice and thought it was exceptional both times. The menu items are very thoughtfully put together. Loved the duck pasta but they've recently changed the menu and it is no longer available. Tried the braised beef ravioli tonight and it was incredible. Our server Jordan was also extremely friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I like this place better for lunch than for dinner. Burgers and other sandwiches have been quite good. Triple fried fries are delicious. A recent dinner was just OK. The partner's $26 shrimp pasta had only 3 shrimp. The service was brisk and curt; our entire meal from seating to leaving took less than 45 minutes. Good if you're in a hurry but not if you want to have a meal experience. It was a slow night at the restaurant so plates came out quick which isn't usually a problem when the restaurant is busier. If you're looking for rich and creamy comfort food, you'll find it. The flavor profiles on their own are a little lackluster. For the price of entrees, I'd expect better.

Hands down the best restaurant in Fredericton. I probably eat here once a week, whether lunch with colleagues, or dinner with my wife or friends. The food is excellent and the menu changes frequently. The diner burger is great as are the steaks and fish dishes. The beer menu changes constantly and they have a good selection from local craft breweries. Great cocktails as well. Recommend reservations on Friday and Saturday. My only complaint is that they aren't open for lunch on Saturdays.

Cozy, pub feel to the place. My only concern was the lighting was rather dim, but I was looking for somewhere to unwind and relax, so it worked out perfect for me.

The first time I visited I was not that impressed -- the Veggie Burrito was NOT the best option. Last night I was able to try this place again and I discovered a more worthy dish -- something with MEAT!! Yep, I had the Rendang -- a curry beef over rice. Very tasty and succulent. My only complaint (missing one star) are portions. For $20 bucks I'd like to be just a little more sated. Warning -- the burger is about the size of two stacked sliders and fits in a metal mold barely three inches (3") across.

My wife and I had supper at 540 a couple of nights ago, and loved it. The appetizers -- escargot for me, curried squash soup for her -- were very tasty, and just the right size. They whetted our appetite nicely, but didn't diminish it. And the main courses were delicious! Seafood Orechiette and Braised Beef & Mushroom risotto kept us happily occupied until the plates were clean. The servings were ample without being oversize, and the taste and texture of both dished was excellent. The service was superb -- prompt and helpful but never intrusive. Deserts (which we usually skip when dining out) were outrageously good. Pumpkin mousse and bourbon pecan pie(!) were the perfect close to a superb meal. I heartily recommend the 540 for a very relaxed and tasty evening out.

Favourite spot in town for a lunch or dinner date. Love the always changing menu - lets you know that the ingredients are fresh and you better get that dish while it’s there! The sriracha lime wings are the greatest. The specials are always truly special. My favourites have been the buttermilk chicken burger on a biscuit and the chicken souvlaki tacos. Big fan of this place, I cannot say enough good things about it.

Staff was polite and quick. Well lit and pleasant aesthetic inside. I didn't have to wait long for the burger i ordered and the presentation was great, but honestly the burger was pretty mediocre. It looked and sounded great, but it wasn't as good in my mouth as it was on paper. With a smaller menu i would have expected they'd be better at each item. Also pretty pricey for a burger, fries, and a coke. I cant speak for the rest of the menu, but with several great options around i wont go back there for a burger.

Drove to Freddi for the day to get Sushi next door, sadly closed. Silver lining - we came here for our eats! Cute atmosphere, great service (all of the staff were super chill and friendly), and good food! Love that there's randomly a TTC map on the wall by the washrooms - we moved from Toronto 2 months ago, this was the first good food experience we have had since our move! We will be back, and this will likely be date night location of choice! Bravo!

Lunch menu has a good variety. Fried Chicken Friday lunch special is a favourite. The Orange Chicken burger (Oct 30 2020 special) is the current personal favorite they have done. Staff are wonderfully friendly and very accommodating. It is a comfortable dining environment is great for catching up with friends or family. Highly recommended.

I had tostadas to start, the burrito bowl as a main, and wrapped up with the cheesecake. All three were divine.

Food tasted fine but I would not be back. Terrible atmosphere. I walked in the door and was greeted with the distinct smell of sweaty old men, however there was no old men in sight. The gross smell hardly faded the whole time I was there. The lights were way too dim, dim enough that I left with a headache. Not to mention that the light above me flickered. The dining area was very cramped--I felt like I was going to bump into the table behind me. Very sparse menu selection. My dish was EXTREMELY small. I admit it was delicious, but it was much too small for the price paid. My partner's fries were cold when they arrived but we had already waited so long for our food that we didn't bother sending them back. Would not recommend.

We came here during lunch on monday August 23rd and it was amazing! I would have given it 5 stars. Great burger, chicken wings, cobb salad, farmers salad etc. All were made out of real ingredients that were prepared perfectly and without too many adulterations. Today on August 27th we came for dinner service. Apparently, the chefs are different in the evening. Totally different story. All these amazing local ingredients were ruined. Overly pretentious, overly expensive menu. A small bowl of boiled veggies for 7 bucks? Not to mention undercooked, not fresh, and with dirt on the leaves. Steak was cold, ribs were dry, cobb salad was made with kale, no eggs this time (what makes it a cobb salad then?) Soup of the day way too sweet, someone mustve added too much honey accidently. The one saving grace was our fantastic waitress, I wish id gotten her name. While she didnt fully save the evening, she was incredible and accommodating.

Last night my husband and I had dinner out at 540 Kitchen & Bar. I made a reservation for two for 6:30 PM. We got there around 6:10 and we decided to wait at the bar for our table(our table was not ready). Behind us a party of 4 arrived and they were waiting for their table as well. Sure enough, 6:30 passes, a table near the window is open and guess what? The party who came behind us gets the table. I asked one of the hostesses why we didn’t get the table and the answer was” that is a table for four and we seated them there”. We got our table at 6:50. They apologized and offered us some free drinks and deserts which was nice. We didn’t get any desert though. The food was great and our waiter was very nice! FYI reservation means when I get there my table is ready. If people try to linger at their tables on a busy night, you should let them know that they have certain time to finish their dinner and liberate the table.

Food was really good; drinks were really good; service was good. Only complaints: too loud and the Caesar salad. I couldn't carry on a conversation with people at my table the place was so loud. Consider changing the way you serve your Caesar salad; putting whole lettuce leaves on the plate is trendy pointless hipster nonsense that creates a mess as soon as you touch it. Basic culinary rule - you shouldn't need a knife to eat a salad.

540 is my favourite restaurant in the city. I've never had a bad meal, and the service is great. The menu refreshes with perfect frequency, meaning I always have the option to try something new or stick with an old favourite.

Started out with the siracha chicken wings which were nicely cooked and I thought the sauce was an interesting mix of of spicy with a little bit of creamy after-taste. Moved on to the buttered haddock for my main an Los thought this dish was also quite nice. Excellently presented and a mix of interesting flavours. Would certainly recommend.

This restaurant is attempting to be "Fancy". Horrible at execution however. This dish Wich consists four pieces of arugula with one choped up piece of lunch meat, a horrific attempt at Beef Carpaccio was 14$. Mind blown at the hour + it took to get to my table. Do not recommend. I'm all for supporting local businesses, but not this one. It's a shame because they run other restaurants here like the kitchen at picaroons or The light house.

This place is seriously good. Wife and I had the fish tacos, with haddock, and shared an order of fries. Superb. We are from downtown Toronto and the prices, including the wine, seemed outrageously low.

My wife and I both had chicken dishes, we found the chicken a bit bland. Other than that, our dining experience was fantastic. The pasta was excellent and the staff were great. I was invited to sample a few of the beer they had on tap before selecting one and the manager and bartender talked about some of the local beer they had, very nice people. Prices are comparative with other similar restaurants. You may want to make a reservation as the restaurant is small, in a good way, and seems to be popular.

I have been here twice and thought it was exceptional both times. The menu items are very thoughtfully put together. Loved the duck pasta but they've recently changed the menu and it is no longer available. Tried the braised beef ravioli tonight and it was incredible. Our server Jordan was also extremely friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious and the wine/drinks list options are fairly priced. The only downside is that we found that the portions were a bit on the small side but the pricing was very good.

The first time I visited I was not that impressed -- the Veggie Burrito was NOT the best option. Last night I was able to try this place again and I discovered a more worthy dish -- something with MEAT!! Yep, I had the Rendang -- a curry beef over rice. Very tasty and succulent. My only complaint (missing one star) are portions. For $20 bucks I'd like to be just a little more sated. Warning -- the burger is about the size of two stacked sliders and fits in a metal mold barely three inches (3") across.
