While fun inside, had a bouncer a cost us for a cash only cover, outside of the club. We were curious why we weren't paying at a booth (as it was early, and we were sober) so we asked. The bouncer became aggressive. Won't go back.

This is probably the filfthiest club in the entire city. I have experienced first hand, my entire group being doused with GHB (date rape drug) from the highballs, seen bouncers phsically assualt innocent partiers, and seen transvestites all in the same night. I have been there numerous times (forced by friends) and have had nothing but negative experiences. If your looking for 30 man sailor brawls, a funny odour, crappy drinks, and not to mention a plethora of weirdos by all means go to this dump.

Our group was looking forward to visiting the Duke Saloon as it is the only "country bar" in Victoria. Despite the line up, which is apparently common, it moved fairly quickly. The doorman however was quite rude to the 2 women ahead of us, (45+) insisting that he take thier photo withthe ID scan. When the women commented why didnt the several pretty young women who were just let in at the side, showed thier ID and paid the same cover, not have to stop to be photographed. Upon thier inquiry , his comment was very curt "if you dont like it go to another bar." I felt that was just unnecessary as they were not impolite in any fashion but justifiable in thier inquiry. We handed our ID, it was scanned, and we went inside. The decora was ok. The bar staff were not identifiable in any country uniform. When I asked a bartender why none of the staff had any cowboy hats or something western on, he made the comment "this is Victoria country". The DJ taped music was great. The Band was OK. Mixed music, and not all country. Couldn't do line dancing as the dance floor was filled with very young adults standing around. There was s small mix of adults over 35 including our group, however they left before we did. We stayed only about an hour and a half, as the crowds were filling with very young drunk 25 and under adults. Drinks were priced fair. The bartender was polite in his service. Just not what we had hoped for being a country bar patron.

Having the Duke as a Rifflandia venue should've been a great way to showcase the bar to a part of the population that wouldn't typically be interested in visiting your establishment. Letting the general population into the bar in addition to wristband holders was a terrible idea. People with wristbands were getting turned away at the door because half of the people in the bar had come in off the street. Not cool. Your bar was already at the bottom of my list and my recent experience just enforced why it deserves that spot.

I went down to dukes with the boys after a long week wranglin cattle on the ranch. Course we got on the piss good and hard and by about 11pm i couldnt see straight. Tossed back a couple more luckys and picked a fight with some scrawny nerd who looked at me funny. Ended up landing a couple good right hooks before the bouncers got a hold of me. All in all a good night. Ill definitely be back soon

Waited forever watching bouncers take bribes and let people cut lines. From what I could hear they didn't actually play country music; lots of 80s Indie pop covers. ***** - however 5 stars to the weird blond guy, "Sparkie", who kept our group entertained for the 1 hour 30 mins - we still owe you a tequila shot bud!

This is a regular hideout, and we love coming here. The staff are hands down some of the best gun- and drink-slingers in Victoria. They have great live bands that keep the dance floor packed, and friendly yet capable security that make sure everyone has a safe time. This a great bar to hit on a weekend. There is usually a cover.

Previously my experiences at The Duke have been mostly positive until recently. I went to book a guest list for my upcoming birthday celebration and also inquired about their new line dancing protocol as it was not made clear on any of their social media accounts or website. I sent a Facebook message two weeks ago and when not hearing back after a couple days, I then messaged them through Instagram. When I again didn’t get a response a few days later, I called them and left another detailed message. After another two days went by with no response, I emailed them through the email provided on their answering machine. Another three days went by and I finally received an email informing that it would cost $100 for me to book a line dance instructor but that anyone who entered the bar during this hour could join in, meaning I would be paying for general customers to line dance, not just my group of 10 friends. When I explained my frustrations with this and their lack of communication, I was told that it was my responsibility to have contacted them sooner. They then stated that although I would be paying for everyone to line dance, they were unwilling to cover any of the line dancing cost. This whole experience made me feel disrespected and unvalued, forcing me to find a new location for my birthday celebrations.

By far best bar experience in Victoria!!!! Want a fun night out? Go here! Staff and management are exceptional and work really hard to accommodate your needs! We came in with our group and although it was somewhat last minute, they were just great! Bar attracts a great crowd... Just go, you won't be disappointed!!!

I have been to the duke previously and had a lot of fun. I've been a little frustrated recently with the past two pub crawls I've been to not being able to get in until 45 AFTER they had opened the doors. While this is a good bar, I think it's important for management to take customer criticism into consideration and be more polite when responding to complaints. After having an unfortunate experience, customers simply want to be heard. All businesses can always learn and improve from listening to their valued patrons. I'm disappointed with how the duke handled this situation, and I hope they learn from the experience.

I haven't been here in about 3 years but have super fond memories of this place when I went with my girlfriends! Bartenders were extremely personable, totally open to just sit and chat (since we go there really early and it was slow) and when live music came on it was really good! Staff are great, music is awesome. I've been a regular and it seems to be getting more and more crowded as it becomes more established which can make maneuvering around the dance floor challenging at times. My only suggestion would maybe to be in a bigger place. Always a great time.

Pretty cool bar! Got going after 9 with awesome live music that was mostly newer style country. Couple bars inside and a beertub with attractive girls working it serving boozy slushies....awesome. Great spot if you want something out of the ordinary, some dancing and some friendly staff.
