Went for burger night on Wednesday, waited for half an hour only to notice that people who showed up 15 mins after us, receiving their food before us. We had waited 35mins for our burgers, only to have them arrive with less than warm fries. Really upset, whenever i tried to say anything to the waitress she was very short and breif with me. I understand that you're busy. Hell I was a waitress, but make eye contact or be attentive at least. I sincerely doubt my partner and I will be returning. Probably won't take my girlfriends there either.

#1 A police hot spot for catching drinking drivers. Just don't park in the parking lot. Park a bit away and walk on over. #2 Last of the old time pubs in town. Good drink food deals, Washroom are gross. Has applied for new building, so no money being spent on up keep.

Unique specials every night of the week. Their portions are big!!!! You won't leave hungry after ordering food here for sure. Nice patio overlooking the airpark for warm days. The servers are amazing. Very enthusiastic, energetic and personable. They love to make you feel right at home and often frequent your table to ensure everything is perfect. Great place to eat or just go for a beer.

Always a good place to get some wings ( monday & Thursday)other specials well worth it through out the week. Drinks are good prices are average, but again they have specials everynight. Staff is friendly and amazing. Lastnight they had 2 waitresses for the entire restaraunt. And they killed it. We were also on the patio.

I had the Oyster burger and green salad which was good but my husband had the Big Bob Burger and it was not so good. A premade frozen pattie was used and didn't taste very good. The fries were not cooked enough and were not crispy just dry. Nice atmosphere though.

Friendly hostess, was caring and helpful in recommendations and even though my requests were complex, they were all met with high standards. I had two martinis there and they were great! Social distancing was also perfected by the staff! it was actually quite impressive how much the sanitary standards were upheld while still making for an amicable atmosphere.

Food is always good and value for the dollar is high. The stone grill is offered for steak, shrimp, chicken and is a fun enjoyable meal. Specials daily and the salads are real and with nice fresh veggies. Old place but diamond in the rough for a decent meal and friendly patrons.

Stopped in for a late dinner with my wife and both had the prime rib special which was recommended. It sounded like a great deal but sadly it was the worst I have ever eaten. Full of fat and bland. Vegetables tasted frozen and not fresh. Came with roasted potatoes which were good. Service was also good, but overall very underwhelming experience. I would not return.

You can start drinking here at 9:00 A.M. When I joined friends for some early holiday cheer I asked our server what was available to eat. I was told that there was no food of any kind available until after 11:00 A.M. One of my friends offered to bring in some Christmas baking from his vehicle. When he returned with the treats I couldn't pig out by myself so I passed it around to others in our group. Soon a man was standing by our table with our server behind him, both staring at us. When nobody seemed to know him I said hello. He mumbled something about outside food not being allowed then quickly left. Our server never returned to see if we wanted anything else. I understand that outside food should not normally be brought in but the whole situation and the rude way it was handled left many of us not wanting to return. BTW, other than our group the place was almost empty.

Not a fancy place... but a perfect place for drinks/lunch with coworkers, or for "girls night out" dancing and drinking on a weekend evening. Fair prices, daily food specials. Excellent pub grub. Everyone local knows the owner's a dick, but he's not around much, so the awesome staff *more* than make up for his jackassery. Pub's always busy after work and weekends. Beer Store open until 11pm daily. Call pub to see how late they are open tonight. ( not my pics - borrowed from elsewhere ;)

This place is very dirty, everything is dusty they do very little in terms of upkeep. Definitely seems dark and dingy. The food is awful here. Frozen greasy burgers, weird processed chicken breasts, everything comes from a box. If you're looking for a hole in the wall bar you found the right place, if you want great food you should certainly go some place else.

This place is great. The food is quite nice for bar food and there is quite a nice variety. The drinks are a good price and the service is amazing. The best part is the live music. The bands that play here are amazing and they really make it special. The only problem I have is that it is quite dirty and could use a bit if a fix.

Great value for money..Burger and fries were hot and fresh from the kitchen. March is Irish beer. About once every 4 months on a Saturday night, they have a "Wine Tasting" - a 3 course meal with 3x tastings of white wine, followed by 3x tastings of red wine - starting around 6pm. This is not advertised on their website, so you need to visit the pub once a month to find out when the next one will be. Best value in town for $30(2019.Feb) - buy your tickets from the Wine and Beer Store and if you have a large group - be sure to make a reservation

I went here to watch a Clippers game, but it ended up they didn't really do NBA games. I got a beer and wings, none-the-less, and realized in that moment the AMOUNT of chicken wings I had probably eaten over the last few years, and all I could do was picture the actual chickens lined up, marching towards my stomach in single file. As the wings arrived I could hardly look at them without a tinge of anxiety, but you know what? I ate 'em anyways. They were tasty.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the sun was shining, and I was feeling optimistic. I decided to take a walk down to the Whistle Stop for a brew as the reviews seemed decent. I walk in the door, and I don't exaggerate in the slightest, the smell of urine was so assaulting that I couldn't even make it halfway through the bar before I had to turn and rush out the door. This, was my experience at Whistle Stop.

There is really nothing to complain about. You aren’t chasing happy hours because they have daily specials and buckets of four on special every day. Yes, it is a bar so they sell bar food but read the menu and you will find some very unique experiences like the steak on the rock. Best steak you ever had. Cheap eats and if you want to meet some locals, this is where they are.

My friend wanted wings so bad I stopped everything I was doing to go with him. He assured me the wings were awesome. He ASSURED me! So this place as been around a long time and has been an unabashed neighbourhood style pub for that time. Dress of the day feels like it should be a step down from street casual. Anyway, initial service was quick and when we got our small, dried out, store bought wings, I ate, paid and left. Likewise, the amount of times I saw my waitress from food served to food paid for was zero. And she had 3 tables. I had the impression we were in the wrong place, but what do i know.

My fiance and I ventured out here for a late lunch this past summer and we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at the Whistle Stop! Our server was lovely, she made sure our drinks were always full even though she was quite busy. My fiance had their burger with blue cheese and he loved it, and their fries were really yummy. I had the chicken strips with fries and I was shocked at the huge portion size for the low price! I took my leftovers home and had it for lunch the next day. The only cons were that the floors in the dining areas look like they have seen better days, and we did notice some areas of the pub that looked like they could use a vigorous dusting/scrubbing. We would definitely return :)

As someone who was raised in the Valley, I have a soft spot for any pub or club that has stood the test of time. Almost 40 years ago my friends and I used to frequent the Whistle Stop - a lot of fun memories were had. Now in my 50's, my wife and I make sure to have lunch at the Stop whenever we are back in town - and I am never disappointed. Great food, great prices and always a friendly and attentive staff. Kudos to the ownership and management group for continuing the legacy of this C.V. neighborhood pub from what I remember long ago...

Tell you the honest truth the guy that greeted us at the door had quite the attitude and after he seated us continued to have a chip on his shoulder so we decided to take our buisness elsewhere. And we were the only people there at dinner time. Either your not hurting for buisness during covid restrictions or he really doesn't want to work. I think their food used to be good at some point, but somewhere along the line during Covid it got pretty awful. Our burgers were soaking the buns in grease (And the patties clearly weren't made themselves given the texture, pretty sure they get them from Costco or somewhere similar), bacon wasn't crisp, the fries were soft... The place was filthy as well. Guess since they're making a new building they've stopped caring about the upkeep. At least the server was nice, but that's about the only thing they had going for them today. Not interested in returning, especially for the price they ask for the quality you get

When I first moved to the Comox Valley, one of the things that disappointed me the most was the lack of no nonsense pubs that had "wing Wednesday". IMO, pubs are incomplete if they 1) don't have daily specials, and 2) sell chicken wings. Thankfully, the Whistle Stop pub has both of these. I am vehemently opposed to paying full price for chicken wings. However, I will always prefer to go to a bar/pub who offers "wing nights", or other specials to give them my business and will try the rest of the menu. The Whistle Stop is not the fanciest pub in the valley, but that's part of the charm of this place. Good food, great service, and especially good food and drink specials. Would recommend.

We came into Courtney after a day on the ski hill. Found this neighborhood pub on a whim. Clearly a local hang out, as everyone knew each other. The place is older, but has character. The food was great. So many options on the menu. And you can watch the small planes come in and out of the air strip behind the restaurant. Strongly recommend. Would gladly go again.

This has been our favorite pub for 12 years, since we moved here. In addition to a great pub menu, the stop offers the best filet mignon I've ever eaten. Eating the stone-grilled meals (which you cook your own at your table) ensures that every bite is just perfect. You get a gourmet steak with potato of choice, veggies, and salad for less than $22. Music on the weekends is also a lot of fun. Congrats to Barry and his great staff.

I will never go to this “restaurant” again. Horrible experience. I understand that there is low staff right now but it took over 15 minutes just to get ranch dressing. I also came for wing night but was very disappointed after I had paid and was told I could not get a takeout box for my wings. I don’t understand why, after paying for my food, I couldn’t take it home. Absolutely ridiculous, it’s just going to get throw away anyways. I wouldn’t have even ordered anything if I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to take it home. Do not recommend coming here.

I had read a wide variety of reviews about this place but we wanted to give it a try to see for ourselves. It's a standard pub, maybe a little rough but the food was great. Service was good and we will definitely be back. If you're looking for upscale, this won't be for you but if you're like my BF and looking for a working man's pub give it a try. Try the oven baked creamy seafood lasagna....we shared it between us and highly recommend.

Service was not great. Server had attitude. Food was horrible. Tables were old and unkempt. I ordered the calamari with caesar salad and my husband had the baby back ribs. My calamari wasn't cooked and rubbery, salad had no flavour, hubby had the ribs which were really tough and pre cooked. Not baby back ribs like they said. The silver skin was still on them and they had no taste. She did take the calamari off the bill but said she couldn't take the ribs off even though he didn't eat them. The bathrooms were disgusting and broken down, like a third world country. We will not be back or recommend this place.

Stopped in while stranded in Courtenay due to weather. While I can safely say that was lot the best steak I have ever had(seasoning goes a long way), the over all experience of the meal, drinks, staff and atmosphere was exactly what I like. Proper neighbourhood pub. Loved it. And loved my bill, haven’t had a reasonable night like that in over a decade. And, it’s not another chain ????‍♂️. Don’t sleep on this place, worth a visit if you enjoy a neighbourhood pub. Next time the weather pins me in town, I know where I’m going.

This was one of the worst dining out experiences I've had in a long time ????. The restaurant itself is very dark, dated and smelled of urine for some reason. I ordered a spinach salad (thinking that would be pretty hard to mess up)...it arrived with cucumber pieces that were absolutely soggy and dry, cherry tomatoes that were dry and wrinkled and my salad dressing was rancid. Our server was very pleasant and attentive; she didn't charge for my salad as, in her words, "you didn't seem to enjoy your meal."

Patronized this venue a few times during my semi-annual visit to Courtenay. It continues to be the best neighbourhood pub option in town. While not perfect, it checks a lot of the positive boxes (extensive selection of food and beverage offerings, numerous daily specials, large yet moderately cozy layout, outdoor seating, plentiful free parking, sufficient number of knowledgeable servers on duty, safe environment for all ages). So what could be better (newer furniture, addition of pub games/diversions and definitely brand new washrooms because urine is not my favourite aromatherapy experience). All in all, I would recommend visiting it while in Courtenay.
