Ordered feature lamb sirloin dish. The carrot was stringy and tasted like it came from a freezer. It was very under-cooked and hard to eat. The "croissant pudding" was mushy and also seemed under-cooked. Would never go here again.

Great patio but needs some improvement on the menu. The Thai chicken is great, however the rice and veggies are tasteless. The char fish was also great, however the red quinoa and vegetables were not edible. In general a good Place for drinks, and if they improve the food, definitely worth a five star.

Have been coming here for many years (15+). Have always loved the food and atmosphere. Not anymore. While atmosphere is fine, for the first time my husband's meal was terrible. Calamari as an app...while it tasted ok, there was more white plate to see then calamari. Next, lobster and Parm pasta...essentially really really bland noodles with very little tasteless sauce and three tiny pieces of lobster meat. Sent that back and ordered the schnitzel. It came with a piece of deli ham and a slice of partle melted process cheese. You could literally pick up the piece of ham and cheese right off the piece of schnitzel. Side of cold mashed potatoes. Very disappointed. Probably won't return.

This is a difficult review to write given we have always enjoyed the quality of food and experience at the Blackshop. My brother and I ordered curbside recently for our Mom's 91st birthday as a special dinner for her. My brother arrived at the appointed time and it was a short 10 min drive back. So disappointing- the meals were luke warm at best and mine was cold. The quality and presentation of the meal was also substandard. Though our Mom would never say anything we were so disappointed not only because of the quality of the food but because our Mom can no longer get out to attend in person and thought this was the next best thing.

1/8th of the resteraunt has people and we've been here for 2hrs and 30mins for my girlfriend's birthday party. Still waiting on the damn bill so we can leave. We reserved at 3:30pm and the waiter didn't show up for 45minutes.

We went for lunch and had one of the private rooms. I originally ordered stroganoff meatballs which I found uneditable due to large amount of unions and the taste which had a sour taste to it. The waitress very nicely offered to replace it with something different. I had the schnitzel which was pork cutlets with black forest ham and smoked provolone which was good. Service was very slow almost a hour to get food. I would think twice about returning.

8 friends finally made it together for a dinner out. Picked the Blackshop and was more than impressed. Great decor and atmosphere. Not a loud room and perfect for old friends to catch up. Our table was a large square table so we could all converse and engage with each other. Food was so good, hot, tasty and the service, Perfect! Our server, Katie knew the perfect timing at the table and encouraged us to just enjoy our time out. She took great care of our little group. We will make the Blackshop a more usual stop.

I had the scallops which were cooked perfect with a caprese salad which I wished it had a better quality mozzarella cheese. You had that and you were nailed the plate. Met with a good friend for a late lunch today and had a great experience. Due to covid, the rules severely limit what restaurants can do but Blackshop never failed to deliver an amazing experience! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the service was impeccable. After a great meal and dessert I also ordered a full meal to bring home to the family since my experience was so good. Will definitely be back again soon!

Wedding I was at my cousins wedding and I had a salad. After the toast (talking about the couple) I had bacon and cheese left on my plate. They didn't ask me if I wanted the rest and took my bacon and cheese away. So, I had to buy my own bacon and cheese that cost me about 5$. All because they didn't ask!

Terrible veg/vegan options. Even though they were told multiple times there was a vegan in the party. We were assured the vegan would get a three course meal just like everyone else. Main vegan course was rice and steamed frozen veggies, you know the mixture of broccoli, cauliflower, etc... Dessert was just fruits (boring!). Staff didn't really come to check up on the terrible, unappetizing vegan food that was basically left untouched. Definitely not going back or recommending this place. Non-vegan food: Guy next to me had the chicken, said it was bland. Another person didn't like their dessert as much. Need to be more imaginative and creative.

An elegant, yet unassuming locale for this upscaled steakhouse. I enjoyed the quality and attention put into the menu, with several options that sounded amazing enough to not choose between each. I settled for the daily special of swordfish steak which was unfortunately somewhat under-seasoned compared to the rest of the dish. However the dish still came together as a whole and I would easily order that again. Staff was respectable, charming and knowledgeable about the menu items. I look forward to a repeat visit here for a special occasion in the future.

Party of 7 and only 1 person enjoyed their food. From what I remember 3 people had the gnocchi and 2 people had steak Frites (strip loin too). Not sure what the other 2 had. I wouldn't say it was inedible but I can make better steak at home. Spend your money elsewhere and go to the Keg just down the road. Or save your money, go to the LCBO, pick up a nice bottle of wine and make a steak at home on your grill. This place is overrated in my opinion. With these prices they're trying to be something they're not. Decent atmosphere. Service was "meh" as well. Beers are roughly $9 before tax... gtfo I don't usually write bad reviews but this time I really felt compelled. Sorry guys... I won't be back.

One of our favourites. Great atmosphere (nice patios, roaring fireplaces, quieter rooms for groups or private parties, etc.) and service. Seasonal specials are lovely and they accommodate food allergies nicely. The only thing preventing a 5th star is that their lunch/brunch menu is very limited and has remained the same for years.

We came for Sunday brunch with four adults and five children, dressed very casually having come from a morning at the park. We sat on the patio, which was surprisingly pleasant despite being near Hespeler road. The food was tasty and the coffee was delicious. All the kids were quiet, well-behaved, and ate their meals. The restaurant was nearly deserted, but the serving team made us feel unwelcome the moment we walked in so maybe that's why. They still got their 20% but we left disappointed and won't be back.

Great restaurant for Lunch, Dinner or Sunday brunch. Menu changes with the seasons as well as some occasional themed menus. Daily specials and they are always tasty. Caesar Salad is a favourite. Add some fresh grilled chicken breast for a quick lunch. Extensive wine list and well made cocktails.

Booked event room for our parents 50th anniversary. Venue was perfect, staff extremely accommodating. Everyone enjoyed the food immensely. Was touched that they provided the cake presentation then cut and plated the cake with a sprinkling of icing sugar and piped in chocolate happy anniversary on our parent's plates to help them commemorate the event. At the beginning of the pandemic, all nearby restaurants were forced to close. Then they opened up for take out only. During that time, me, my extended family, and a few friends were buying regularly from a couple awesome local restaurants (including Blackshop) to help them survive, as 2020 was a difficult year for them, and I didn't want them to go under. (I am the person that had a hair in their food one of those times and drove back to get a replacement) Then a couple of months ago you started differentiating between vaccinated individuals and non-vaccinated. Yes, I understand the government forces you to, however, I overheard your staff speak horrible of the unvaccinated people, using words I cannot post here. Following protocol is one thing; gloating about discriminating people is another. After being a loyal customer for 15 years (started since you guys were on 20 Hobson; we had many birthday parties there, anniversaries and also a baby shower too), I am done using this restaurant. I've notified my friends to do the same. Good luck surviving the upcoming lockdowns.

The food was reasonably good, considering the expense. The Fried Gouda Cheese is a unique twist on a deep fried cheese / cheese board. As always with cheese - I was left wanting more, but the portion was probably rather appropriate so as to not fill you up before dinner. We had a party of three. The duck was a feature, and was just a little bit tough - still not terrible though. The gnocchi was decent, would have appreciated a touch more meat in it, but the dish was put together well. Can't remember what the final meal was in our party. We certainly didn't go hungry, and the diversity of the menu allows for anyone to find something they like. Originally pegged this at 3 stars, but bumped up to 4 after considering we had fairly good service, the ambiance was not bad, while the food was (after all) pretty good and reasonably portioned.

I've been to the Blackshop on a few occasions and just recently my third visit. The menu offers lots of variety at reasonable prices and the ambiance is great. The drinks menu is robust and they feature a killer martini menu. I highly recommend the Vesper. The restaurant also features several private rooms which can be reserved. The only reason it's not a 5 star rating is the service, which on my recent Saturday afternoon visit wasn't that great. I'd still return however and it's a great spot in Cambridge.

Friendly staff especially with our two little toddlers. We've been coming here for 10 years. A great meeting place just off the 401 ideal for families meeting from different cities. The food is delicious especially the brunch options. Good sizes and great taste. We especially love the pastry and bread available during brunch time. One thing I would recommend is a changing table for babies in either bathroom. I didn't see one last time we were there.

Great atmosphere and service. Our table was very cozy and appealing. The drinks were amazing - strawberry daiquiri was tasty and plentiful and the rum and gingers kept coming! The rainbow trout special was well presented and very tasty. The Thai chicken was a little disappointing. The chicken was small breaded pieces that reminded me of KFC chicken popcorn. It would have been a better dish if it had been a grilled piece of chicken. For the price you didn't get a lot of meat and the pieces felt empty. The rest of the dish was very tasty and filling. As an added bonus there was a free birthday dessert which was delicious.

My girlfriend took me here for our anniversary. I absolutely loved it! I can't say enough good things about this place. Our server was excellent, he was attentive without being overbearing. He always seemed to know the perfect time to return. We ordered the assorted appetizer platter to start. Each item was better than the last. I have never had appetizers as good. I had ordered the steak cooked to my exact liking and my girlfriend ordered the baked Atlantic salmon. The mixture of flavours in the salmon were so different from any other salmon I've ever tasted. It was refreshing and unique. I would definitely return and recommend to others. It is now one of my favourite places to eat.

My coffee was cold. They didn't bring the sugar until we asked, overall service was ok. The waitress failed to even look my way and only spoke to my husband. I ordered the salmon with quinoa and veggies, and it was disgusting to say the least. It tastes like oil and lime and the salmon was so dry and over cooked. My meal was so bad that I just couldn't finish it. I took it to go home and I tried to eat it later but couldn't do it due to the awful taste. I'm very disappointed I paid 30 dollars for bad tasting and over cooked food. This place used to be good at one point and i have no idea what happened to it. The food was so bad that I just could not help having to make a review on it.

The whole restaurant has such a clean and modern look, beautifully decorated, with a few fireplaces in different sections. Very cozy! The staff, from greeting to eating, was exceptionally courteous and not at all and intrusive every 2 seconds (pet peeve, lol) Wonderful staff! We each ordered steak; her the butter herb, and I went with the peppered. Both were PHENOMENAL! We also had a gouda appetizer that was so delicious. To top off a great experience, without request, they delivered a special dessert which was covered in fresh berries, and wrote "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate syrup.. just truly above and beyond! Not only do they have my full recommendation, by my business going forward. THANK YOU BLACKSHOP, FOR AN AMAZING MEAL AND EXPERIENCE.

We ordered online from Blackshop last night for dinner and everything was perfect! The online ordering process was very straight forward. As we live about 7 mins away they could deliver for a very reasonable fee. Dinner was delivered a few minutes early and each entree was fantastic. Best takeout of this quality of food we’ve ever had. I had attended on September 21st, 2019 with my family to celebrate my mother's birthday. We were a party of 6 and had made reservations a week prior. We enjoyed the atmosphere (the restaurant is beautiful) and the food was delicious... when we finally received it. It took an hour and a half to receive our appetizers, and in excess of two hours and 15 minutes for our meals. Again, food was great, I had the Paella, and the rest of the family had steak. My father's well done steak, was far from well done. His was returned to the kitchen to be put back on the grill, and as a result he was stuck watching us eat our meals, while he continued to wait another half hour for his. While the manager did offer our family dessert 'on the house' due to the series of mishaps, it was too little too late. I had requested the bill, and to my surprise, our waiter (unprompted) brought a dessert for my mother for her birthday, which they had indicated they would when we had made the reservation. I had previously been to Blackshop, and had a pleasant experience, however I was truly embarrassed bringing my family here for a special occasion, and will refrain from doing so in the future.

Came for a birthday celebration with my girlfriend and booked through OpenTable. Hostess was very friendly and seated us right away. Tables were spaced out far enough, and the ambient noise was not too loud making it easy to hear each other. Server was friendly and masked up, quickly taking drink orders. I ordered the Wild Boar Belly and Scallops while my girlfriend had the Steak and Frites. Also ordered a grapefruit Jalepeño Margarita which had an issue initially but the server very quickly took care of it with a new one. Food came pretty quickly but could have been served hotter. It was delicious though, definitely would go back for another meal. Ended with a birthday creme brulee. Prices are reasonable for what you get and it was an enjoyable night out!

This is a lovely place that offers excellent dining atmosphere for couples, families, and small groups alike. Service is also top notch. While the seasonal and daily specials can help add culinary variety, the main menu has become dated and food execution has been mediocre. My wife and I have discussed forgoing ordering entrées in the future and stick with drinks and appetizers. The kitchen needs to step it up to match the decor, service, and price point the restaurant offers.

I didn't have a great experience, but I think because I ordered the wrong item for this kind of place. The Thai Curry was pretty bland and chalky. I had to ask for sriracha to give it some depth. Aside from that, the wine selection is very good and the items other people had ordered looked and smelled delicious. Prices are high and service is pleasant and expedient. The patio is a nice place to be.

I usually came here for the German influence the past few times.

We tried: Bacon and Scallops and Pan Seared Atlantic Salmon from their regular menu; and Pan Seared Munro Farms Rainbow Trout from their fresh fish and seafood festival menu (available until April 30). Bacon and Scallops: This was an amazing dish: fat, jumbo scallops and thick, juicy bacon bits. Scallops were buttery, salty and soft as expected. Not sure if there was any mushroom in the dish, as advertised on the menu but there were Parmesan cheese bits. Pan Seared Atlantic Salmon: An excellent dish! I really liked their "tobiko caviar and limoncello beurre blanc." It was an interesting mix of tobiko in a lemony, buttery liquid that you can dip your salmon in. The spinach, jasmine rice and avocado were cooked well and super tasty as well. I didn't find the salmon a top quality but dipping it into the liquid made it taste better. I wouldn't drink it up, though, because there was probably lots of butter in it, which is not good for your heart. Pan Seared Munro Farms Rainbow Trout: I liked the taste of rainbow trout more than the salmon, comparing a fish to a fish, but overall I liked the salmon dish more. I got to sample the trout dish, and it was very tasty, as well. The service is friendly and quite attentive. This is definitely a nice date night spot and a restaurant to visit for celebrating special occasions. They seem to have private rooms, too for holding events. I don't think you need to dress up but you could if you wanted to.

I don't often do fine dining restaurants so it's not too hard to satisfy me but I have to say this place is great value for high quality food. Presentation is artistic, portion is just right, atmosphere calm/clean and taste spectacular. This review speaks to the terrible service I received. Made a reso well in advance for the patio. Was told by staff that the patio would withstand a monsoon. When I arrived the patio seating was all soaked. Staff did nothing to accommodate my patio request and said that’s its use was weather dependent. 3 staff stood and stared blankly at me while I tried to figure it out. I left and will never return.

We went here for our 11th anniversary. The service we recieved from the GM (Ryan)and our server was amazing! I had the steak and frites and my hubby had the special that evening which was pesto crusted panseared pickerel, and we also split a rack of lamb. The Lamb was cooked to perfection and the sauces they provided with the lamb was just out of this world delicious. The food was so delicious the portions were just right. On par with what I would expect from an upscale restaurant. 5 stars will continue to eat here.

Unbelievable restaurant experience. The soup was amazing very experimental with a spice. I had to filet mignon cut like butter and melted in your mouth. Blackshop Restaurant has been our go-to for all of our special dinner/brunch/lunch dates. We were married here. We had our first of many dates here. We celebrate my birthday every year here. Every Christmas, valentines and “just becauses”. Covid-19 hasn’t stopped us from feeling the love of “our” restaurant. Tonight, a perfect curb side delivery allowed us to dine at home on our favourites. It certainly doesn’t have the ambiance that we love when we go to Blackshop. And it certainly didn’t have the lovely people from Blackshop - but the food carried their love to our dining room. We will keep ordering curb side until we can walk thru the doors once again and dine at our favourite booth and say hello again to Tatiana, Michelene, Mateo and the rest who welcome us as family.

The food here is amazing. We have never had a bad meal here. Ever. And now that we’re in lockdown, we still get an order every 1-2 weeks delivered. Just finished the beef tenderloin, with scallops. Perfect size, awesome flavours. I don’t know what they do to the beef but it laterally melts in your mouth. Don’t hesitate in ordering from here.

Sat. Oct 9 we decided to have dinner in covered porch. I understand restaurants don't have enough staff but it was painfully super slow. The caesar salad appetizer was so small, schnitzel was overcooked and overall was just not a good experience. I know they can do better than this for the price.

Absolutely unbelievable food. Gluten free options were plentiful and they are extremely (with celiacs and knowledgeable staff) accessible to allergen needs. Our service had some lulls, as they seemed to be under staffed, but our server was amazing and the manager followed up with us before and after our visit. I've never been more (or at all) satisfied with spending over $200 for a dinner out for two. Please visit this restaurant.

Imagine trying to create a memorable birthday dinner date with your girls at a restaurant over 120kms away from home just to receive a distasteful welcome. We were all dressed to the nines, therefore it wasn't our dress code. Things got really awkward and uncomfortable as the evening progressed. We walked in to find out our friend who had arrived on time for our reservation had already been warned there were reservations. So right from get go we got the memo that our reservation wasn't valuable, the message was eat and get out. To kickstart the evening our waiter was switched before we even ordered a drink. So were assigned a waiter's whose demeanour was standoffish, arrogant and unconcerned. While l understand the emotional labour that waiters have to endure in the service industry, since it was my birthday a little effort to smile or wish me well would of been an acceptable kind gesture, but he made sure not to acknowledge it despite my friends efforts to alert him that it was my special day. Instead my birthday was treated with coldness, while simultaneously we were observing tables besides us effortlessly offered warmth and pleasant gestures. While my friends wanted to keep our spirits up, honestly the service was such a damper, we even had to humiliate ourselves by asking for bread and butter. By the time the food came the experience had killed our mojo, the only good thing is we came with an appetite so we stayed in to eat. The fact the l don't remember how the food was is very telling, the only thing l remember about his restaurant is the unpleasantness. When the dessert came l actually smiled, the waiter said curtesy of our chef and presented a desert with treats and the edges of the plate were beautifully written in chocolate "happy birthday." For a moment l thought what a nice way to make up for such a disastrous evening, only to be surprised to see the desert on my bill. l thought it was a mistake, so l asked the waiter. However, his response was a slap on the face. It was a simple "the only birthday curtsey from the chef is the chocolate writing on the plate." Our total bill for the three of us was over $300, not your everyday dining experience but definitely will not be going back.

I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times and have enjoyed everything about it… The quality of the food is excellent and most of it is made on site with the local ingredients. The service is excellent and the vibe is stylish high-end but comfortable. Wine menu is fantastic as well. Be sure to sit outside if the weather permits.

My sisters got together to cook up a 40th anniversary surprise. They're all in different cities so they asked our sons what our favourite restaurant was... of course the iconic Blackshop came up. They ordered the Prime Rib Sunday dinner with Charcuterie, Ceasar salad and decadent desserts plus local pilsner. They arranged for us to pick the meal up using the curbside pickup. We had an amazing romantic dinner on our own front porch and it was truly perfect. (One small glitch that was resolved immediately, which is why locally owned restaurants are always the best choice) The presentation was lovely despite the fact that it was in containers. I transferred the charcuterie to a large bamboo cutting board and used our wedding china for the meal. Highly recommend this experience

Incredible dining experience, can’t wait to come back. Impressive menu with a wide selection of innovative dishes. Had the grilled calamari, followed but the wild boar and scallops and the chicken supreme, finished with the chocolate truffle cake. All delicious, well balanced, and interesting dishes presented beautifully.

Came tonight for some birthdays, it was a really nice evening. Highly recommend the scallops and Red Dahlia drink. The ravioli was ok, not my taste but others liked it. Caprese is hard to find on a menu, appreciate that. Lucky to have came on a night they had oysters. I would recommend the malbec as a red wine option, the shiraz was too peppery. Steaks were cooked perfectly and my veg friend loved the mushroom pasta. Desserts took a while to come p Pit but they were amazing, especially creme brulee. Service from max was excellent, can't wait to come back!!

Food was decent but not great and expensive compared to the potion received, You can go to other place with better portioning and flavor. My family ordered 9 out of their 25 dinner item selections they offered, all ranging from soup, apertizer and entrees and most are cooked on on the sweet side. The service was horrible, ended up sitting around 2.5 hours to finish a dinner. You had to wait around 20-40 minutes for a drink or a dish or a desert to send out. Bad, bad! The only plus side: nice decor.

Blackshop has blown me away again! My husband and I had decided in advance to order takeaway from Blackshop during the week and were really looking forward to it. We ordered online but unfortunately when the time came to go pick up the food, our car wouldn't start. I was so embarrassed, but I called Blackshop letting them know the situation and that I would not be able to come get the food and likely would need to cancel the order. This was not the case at all and Blackshop called me back within 2 minutes. They were beyond kind, empathetic and did everything they could to get the food delivered to me. Everything was sorted out within 10 minutes after my initial call and the food came incredibly quickly. Considering I live about 20-25 minutes away I was very surprised they made this happen, what absolutely amazing customer service. They included a super nice note and even sent along some desserts for us. After a stressful evening, this really made me feel so, so much better. I love Blackshop Restaurant and could not recommend this place enough!

What a wonderful place! Great meal, great atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Even after having to cancel while one member of our party was already inside-(it had to rebooked due to an emergency), the wait staff even sent home a birthday dessert free to the ill person! We ate at Blackshop for the first time with friends earlier this year. The food was excellent and I was most impressed with the wine selection. I am curious (and hoping management may be able to answer the question!) - I had a delicious Pinot Noir from the Okanagan Valley, and I was wondering which winery it would have been from...I can't recall! Again - great experience overall. Wonderful food, lovely ambiance, and great drink selection (wine, beer, and cocktails included). Hoping to hear back from you!

Celebrated my Wife's birthday here and had a wonderful dinner. Our server, Mikaela, was friendly, attentive, and helpful; a true professional. The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations from the daily soup, pan seared scallops to the lobster pasta and truffle cake desert. Many delicious menu choices were available and all appealed. The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic dinner for two, with comfortable seating, subdued lighting, and generous spacing between diners.

I really want to love this place but the inconsistencies in the food and service makes it difficult for me to offer any more of a rating than one star. This review is actually edited from a previous review during a Mother’s Day prefix menu that took 3.5 hours from when we walked in the door to when we left. We were simply forgotten about. I was offered $50 in compensation. A few weeks ago we had a party of eight book a table for the patio. When we arrived we were told we would not be able to be seated on the patio. I won’t mention the servers name here but while they were taking our initial drink order they told us that they don’t give a “heck” about anything anymore. We thought they were kidding. Our entire party was either in the food or customer service industry so we know, ya know. Anyway drinks took about 20 minutes. Our food was a whopping one hour and 10 minutes to arrive. When it arrived one out of four steaks was correct. The fries were not edible. The vegetables were not edible. Our drinks were not refilled. Our server didn’t check in even though not one of us ate the entirety of our meal. We only ended up complaining about one steak, it came rare instead of medium with fries that were not edible and they offered a free dessert and charged for the meal. We just wanted to leave because the whole experience was now almost two and half hours. As I said, I wanna love this place, but yikes.

Try the BLACKENED SOUTHWEST CHICKEN SALAD. It is to die for. I’ve never tasted such great juicy chicken and an awesome salad to go with. Also very professional service staff is amazing. Lastly, packaging was also very good overall 10 stars!

One and done. My wife and I tried the Blackshop for the first time on Friday evening. It will be our last visit. First, I was disappointed by the menu. I found it lacking in variety. Secondly, in my opinion, the food is over priced for the quality. For the appetizer I had the French Onion Soup. The serving size was small and not worth the $9. I've had better at Williams. For the main, I had rack of lamb, which is 2 lollichops , served with mash potatoes that were hard, and tasted like they came out of a box. Not worth half of the $44 I paid. Lastly, it seemed like we were an after thought to our server. I felt like an unwanted house guest, not a patron of a "fine dining" establishment. If you are looking for higher end food with good value, I would recommend The Mill in Cambridge, or Charcoals in Kitchener. Just because you lower the lights, doesn't mean you can charge whatever you want for lack lustre food.
