Very poor management. The restaurant manager is very rude and the only thing that is not seen in his behavior is respectful behavior. He behaved very rudely. In my opinion, eating a meal was not worth tolerating such abusive and rude behavior. And be angry and upset all day long. Next to this restaurant, there are other restaurants where we can have a very relaxing time with delicious food.

I just dropped in Sunday. Good beer selection, and wow, the stuffed yorkie is fantastic! Nicely presented, beef was cooked perfectly, mashed potatoes al dente, veggies too. Great service, and the heated patio was comfortable and convivial. I'll be back more often now. Only thing missing is they don't have real horseradish, so BYO.

We have had lunch here before and that was decent. But breakfast today was diabolical. I mean, truly awful. The french toast appeared to be frozen from a box, and the bacon of the microwavable variety i last sampled in university at 2am. The sausages were...not. Just not sausage. Someone in our group needed immodium later. The first case where British food in canada is actually worse than real British food. Sorry peeps - give morningtime here a miss.

Thursday night was karaoke night and there was this girl that can sing like she was made to be on stage very entertaining unique Pub Style and geared to a younger crowd! But there was this woman that had to be close to 70 80 years old and they call her Gigi and she sang three songs at karaoke and amazing voice and performance! The crowd loved her!

The drinks here are good, and the atmosphere is alright. But unless you want to have your each and every move watched by a security guard and have the two constantly make bets and say I told you so about your friends doing things or being of age, don't go here. After jokingly skipping across the street with friends we were kicked out because "you've drank to much" which is debatable since we'd hardly drank and other patrons had drank enough to believe touching women without consent was fine. They like their regulars here but don't go here if your young and with multiple friends.

Poor service, appetizers seem to be ok but curried chicken was cold. Had it sent back to the kitchen and it was clearly microwaved - though the waitress claimed their microwave was broken. They really don't care to keep their clientele with this kind of service.

Went for St Paddy's day lunch. Ambience was great, staff was really friendly even though they were v busy. Drink - just had beer, which was good and green. Food - burger was good, potato appetizer was pretty good. Location - great! Price - they had st paddys day menu which was more expensive than the regular one. So can't comment on prices. Paid 60$ for 2 people. Will go back? Yes. For the location and ambience.

Let's just say brunch isn't what it used to be. Eggs bene were decent (I seem to remember potatoes with this dish, but I could be wrong) and was served a terrible cup of coffee that I couldn't drink, yet still managed to make its way on the bill. Won't be going back to eat here again.

I went here for lunch with a friend and inside the restaurant it smelt pretty gross, that should have been the first hint to have walked out but we decided to sit outside and everyone else was sitting outside as well.. probably due to the stuffy smell. It was the servers first morning shift but she wasn't new, she was incredibly rude, not entirely sure why she decided to pull an attitude with us from the very moment we came there. As paying customers you think she would be a decent server and be somewhat nice. She got our orders wrong, we both ordered steak on a bun with a Caesar salad which was supposed to be $16 each, she came out with almost a $30 steak meal for the both of us. When I politely said I ordered us the steak on the bun instead of fixing the issue she tried fighting me on this matter, she grabbed the menu and pointed to the steak dinner and when I said no that is not what I ordered she had the audacity to slam the menu shut and shower me with even more attitude. Typically the customer is supposed to be right, to a certain degree. I have never been treated so rudely or have a server try and argue me anything. So with that reaction I definitely did not trust sending her back with our food to have I originally ordered us... would you after that? So we just ate what could of it. The steak was delicious but the salad tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for quite a few hours and the bacon tasted stale, all the dressing and toppings were at the very bottom of the bowl as well.. The coffee was horrible, it actually tasted like dirt. I'm the type of person that will keep drinking it not to be rude, but it was that bad I couldn't continue it after two sips. When we got tea instead we had to call her over to refill the milk since the bowl was empty from attempting to drink the coffee. I definetly will not be returning to this place nor would I ever recommend eating here. The bathrooms are located upstairs, so it's not wheel chair accessible. Dickens looked nice from the outside so that initially got our attention, but from the odd musty and foul odour, to the horrible customer service and stale salad, this had to be the worst experience I have ever had eating out. Perhaps it is good for a night out drinking from the previous reviews, (if the place doesn't smell like that all the time) but that will be my first and last time ever going to Dickens. Perhaps the server should work on her manners if she plans on working in this sort of buissness, I've worked in customer service and if I ever treated any of my customers with the ounce of disrespect she gave us I would have been terminated immediately. I'm not one to complain, but I felt like this needed to be said.

Would not swap out both the homefries and toast for a bacon or sausage substitute on the 3 egg omlette menu item without an upcharge... seemed petty on a $15 / 3 egg item. Ended up with the 1 lb wings. Ok but would have preferred cooked a bit longer. Service was polite.

The staff was very nice and went above and beyond for us how ever the manager was very rude we had ordered food she brought it out said “I’ll be right back with Cutlery” 30 mins later she comes back we asked where the rest of the food was and was very rude about it and told us to talk to the waitress who hadn’t came by since we ordered. Been here twice. Bouncer wouldn't let us in the first time, despite providing 2 pieces of ID. Went again another time; service was terrible (20 minute wait just to get a beer), place is a run down dump, extremely overcrowded (to the point it violated the fire code), tiny bathroom had a 15 minute waiting time and the floor was covered with urine and feces, prices of food and alcohol are ridiculous, especially considering the state of this place. Staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional.

Originally gave them a thumbs down on skip as they forgot one of the meals. When we called, the manager, Kevin, personally delivered the omitted meal to us along with a dessert as an apology. We ordered because the food is delicious from there. The fact that they went above and beyond made The Dickens that much better

Not the best experience. The waitress spilled the beer all over the table an on the phone. When she brought soup with chips , all chips she dropped on the floor and on the table. French soup is not french - onion was raw and...it's not the french soup. I asked small greek salad - she brought the big plate of caesar with coupe olives on the top. Beer was good.

Let me start off by saying, the food was great! Totally a pub grub and beer joint, which I love! Prices were pretty average for a pub. Now, for some unfortunate news. The service was terrible. I always give waitresses props for handling so many customers at once and trying to keep a busy night running smoothly. My friend and I went in for some good food and beer. Haven't been before and really wanted to try it out. We also heard there was live music which we were really excited about. We were seated and not handed any menus. The waitress came over and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. We explained we never recieved a menu and she proceeds to give us a drink k menu. She gave us a few minutes and then came back and took drink orders. She didn't ask if we wanted food or a food menu for that matter and were left to look on the website for the menu. She never returned and w decided to ask for a menu to give her a hint that we wanted food. She gave us a menu and never returned. Another waitress noticed us looking around for a server and she finally asked if we needed anything which led us to make a food order. We never saw our waitress until the end of the night when she asked if we're staying for the live music to which we replied we weren't. The service was just so horrible that we didn't have any interest for staying any longer. This may have been a rough night for the servers and I would like to think this wasn't their normal service. I would definitely go back to give it another try because the food was delicious.

Staff does not cut people off, the pub was filthy, and music was way too loud. This pub reminds me of an overly drunk college kid who can’t hold his liquor, throws up on your floor and leaves so he/she doesn’t clean it up. I definitely will not be returning. Would only recommend to people who want to feel like they're at a college party. Pros: • If you like drinking alcohol, overly loud music and feeling like you’re in college this is the place for you • Location • The drink I had tasted good Cons: • Not enough staff (waited at a table for a long time then decided it wasn’t worth it to stay) • Staff does not cut people off (stop serving overly drunk people alcohol) • the pub was filthy (feet kept sticking to the floor like it has a layer of glue on it) • music was way too loud (even if you yelled your friend standing next to you wouldn’t be able to hear you, if you wanted to talk you had to go outside) • Alcohol is way over priced • Atmosphere in general My Experience: My friends and I wanted to celebrate my graduation by taking me to a pub. One friend recommended this place. We walked in to a band playing overly loud music, my feet kept on sticking to the floor, and the bar area was overly crowded. We went to the back to sit down and order drinks. We waited at the table for a long time (no server came our way or paid us any attention), we could barely hear one another of the music (you had to yell at the top of your lungs to be heard), after 10 minutes of waiting my friend squeezed his way to the bar to grab me an alcoholic drink to celebrate, after receiving this drink everyone at the table wanted to leave. When I went up to pay for the drink it was way over priced double of what it should have been. While getting up to leave the pub an overly drunk gentleman’s beer happened to slip from his fingers and crash to the floor, spilling all over the dress I wore out. Worst experience at a pub I have ever had. I will not be returning.

Visit this restaurant often but today I went for lunch and ordered the eggs benedict with fruit which was delicious. However, the fruit was good until I got to the rotting strawberry. I was not impressed.... Mentioned it to the server and she just laughed. Did not expect that at all. On all my other visits I have had all good experiences until this one.

Saddened that they got rid of Murphy's Irish Stout. They've gone to the mass marketed Guinness (which is still lovely), but the option was nice. Now only if I could find Beamish! We had a nice, friendly server, but she was busy. The coconut shrimp we had was fantastic. I had the stuffed Yorkie and it was tasty, and filling. There was a mixup with burgers that we didn't realize until they were all basically eaten lol Only real gripe was that my frozen Heavenly Hash ice cream cake was a bit old as it was starting its journey into becoming freezer burnt.

Had a great meal here. We got the honey chicken club and fish and chips. Both were amazing. Will definitely be eating here again. A huge plus was they allowed our dog on the patio. He was treated with so much love. He got a water bowl with ice and some carrots. A great meal :)

They had a lot of people in the restaurant that day because of the Santa claus parade so they had a shortage in many things. It took forever for the food to be ready and they were definitely understaffed...they didnt even have enough ketchup bottles that day...you would think they would be more prepared knowing ahead of time that a large volume of people will be coming in...even the food wasn't that great compared to other visits

I ordered the Burger for the Monday special and it was really really pink inside! The outside was crunchy and looked well done but after one bite I got very pink meat. I tried to cook it some more at home (I did take out) but it didn’t help very much. I ate whatever I could around the pink meat. I think the burger would’ve been good if it would’ve been well done.

This place is terrible. Went for dinner on the weekend and found the dining room empty and the carpet filthy. The light shining through the windows showed that housekeeping is not something of importance. Our server took her time coming to our table after walking by three times. Meals took almost 30 minutes to arrive and they came with cold vegetables, dry hard mashed potatoes and pot pies without one drop of gravy. disgusting. The real kicker is our server didnt even bring our meals. She stopped by a near table where her friend was waiting and spent her time counting out her tips. Folks dont wast your time or your money at this place, you will regret it.

I hosted my birthday party there... 40 some people and everything went off without a hitch, food was great, my guests and I were treated fantastic, staff was great and the band Say Uncle was AWESOME. Recent renovations are a nice touch. GREAT Burlington institution. Pro Tip: Late Night snacks at burger joint just steps away is also a great option.

ordered calamari and a quesadilla for lunch takeout here and the food was very small portions for the cost and low quality...quesadilla tortilla was overdone and didnt even stick together because there was not enough cheese on it...it was burnt and crumbled apart when you bit into it...the quesadillas at taco bell are better sorry to say.

A place feels a bit older but that didn't bother our group in the least. The location is FABULOUS with a great patio. You see a lot of people walk by but not that many cars which makes it very relaxing and interesting. During summer that part of Burlington is quiet nice. Our waitress was friendly, open and unpretentious. A real pleasure to be around. She knew exactly when we needed her and when to leave us alone to chat. Food was pretty good as far as pubs go. Decent selection of beer on tap. I will come back for sure.

For many years we have gone to Dixkens in Milton and now Burlington.We are not from Burlington but on our way home on Wed.Morning we wanted to relax with a cold beer and snacks,which we did. We had an adorable young server and she was so funny and a delight to be with. As we sat there inside the restuRa t I wondered if the owners / managers ever took the time to look at the state of the place All along the walls and chairs were coated in dust .Those benches and their fabric need to be dumped . We were shocked to see how filthy this restuRant was. We actually wondered how Dickens existed in such a lovely area and certainly not a slum area.How do you people get away with that. We went on home and suddenly thought that maybe the place is getting ready for demolition and thought that maybe that is what is going down... It would be sad to see it go as Dickens was always a favourite place to stop by and the staff are always great.....Hope you don't mind my review Sometimes it's best to let people know before your business starts going down the drain ...that would be too bad.....

We just had our lunch at this restaurant and had Kendra as our server. She was not friendly, not accommodating, not attentive. She did not say one word like “how are you” or “how’s the food” until we left she did not even say bye. She gave us the cheque, we paid then left without a word. Whenever she served us food, she didn’t say anything and just tossed the food on the table. She gave us no recommendations, when we were ordering it’s like she was in a rush. One person was still ordering and she was already asking the next person. The owner however, is friendly and nice. I rated one star because of the food but she’s by far the worst server we’ve ever encountered.

When we approached the manager "Kevin" to discuss the service and our disappointment he continued to make excuses for the waitress conduct. We suggested perhaps switching our waitress for an other, which he agreed. We literally received no further service from any pub staff. . We eventually after several requests for the bill had to approach the bartender to pay. I would not recommend Dickens to anyone!!!.

Service was not bad and food was gross. Our nachos had very little cheese and soggy vegetables on them. I asked for a glass of sweet sweet wine and was given the most bitter wine I have ever had. One good thing was the pop was cheap. The bathroom door almost fell off on my sister in the bathroom and it was dirty and smelled bad. The toilet paper holder fell open and hit my mom in the head. I would not recommend this place.

Mediocre pub style bar, middle of the road as far as downtown Burlington goes. Prices and selection is average, and the food is totally hit and miss. I've had wings here 4-5 years ago and they were amazing. Unfortunately the food just hasn't been the same since and I just stick to ordering drinks. As with most bars in downtown Burlington, this review is automatically docked by 1-2 stars since this venue still employs Dragon Security, which really ruins the atmosphere and experience.
