This is a very cool place, with a great and deserved reputation in the Montreal night life. However, it does not make any sense at all to have live music only on Sundays. To start at 21:00 on a Sunday is sort of interesting though, as I can put baby to bed and hit the road to a beautiful week to come ;)

As many of the others here mentioned, Christ likes to pick a cocktail for first timers. In my case it was the best old fashioned I've ever had. He went off script for my wife a made a delicious twist on a French 75. Overall, would absolutely recommend for those looking for a good cocktail.

Probably one of the coolest places I've been in Montreal. Drinks are all $16 but it's the perfect place to go if you want to impress someone. The drinks are all complex in flavor and preparation. Live music (and it's good)!

Awesome whisky place (yes, without the "e"). We went for the live jazz but due to COVID, that isn't happening right now. Great ambiance and nice, little tables for two. If you can't pick a whisky, ask for a recommendation and tell them your preferences. You'll probably get a new favorite. Santé!

The wife and I went there last night for a comedy show - one of the first real events we've been to since moving back to Montreal. We had a great night! The MC was really funny and even the door guy was cool. And our server, Cassania (spelling?) was super nice and awesome. (Tip your servers, people!) The décor and atmosphere of the place was exceptionally done and very comfortable. And of course I have to mention all of the comics which were super-funny and interactive! :D Loved them. For the two of us, including tickets and drinks, we had a great night for *under* $80. Definitely worth checking out - we'll be going back again for sure!

Whiskey bar with classy bootleg-era ambiance. Went here for an acoustic performance, which took place before the DJ began at 11pm. The sound was great, and the waitstaff were respectful about a spectator/patron who was there for the show and did not drink alcohol. The food looked good, in an upscale Montreal food truck way. Good for groups.

Amazing bar with a tremendous whisky selection and so many flights at extremely reasonable prices! The drinks were all great and the place is fantastic. There are a couple booths right as you get in that are great for a little bit of a larger party and the music is not too loud so you can actually have a conversation. The service was pretty bad - one of the staff even spilled a drink all over my leg and didn’t even bring anything over to dry it off nor apologize. The flight I ordered didn’t show up and I had to ask about 5 times which was pretty frustrating. I would go back and just make sure to order from the bartender directly as on a Saturday night that wasn’t even that busy, they were still having a tough time serving everyone. Beers and shots were quick though.

Douchey upsell from the bartender when I sat down for my first drink. Essentially awkwardly pressured me into buying a scotch that was twice as much in front of the other patrons “because I should try something different”. Poor etiquette and approach to service. It’s important to understand people’s financial limits and when they ask for something twice they probably want it.

Slow service even if the place was practically empty when we got there, the cocktails were expensive for the quantity and quality delivered. The food was okay. The ambiance and decor was nice and original. At some point a band started playing so so loudly, it's not a good place to have a conversation. Overall not worth the price of the evening.

Really dig the vibe and decor of this place and would recommend to anyone who appreciates their drink. The whiskey selection is phenomenal. Our bartender Christ (yes really - and thank you Whiskey Jesus) was charming and regaled us many tales about mixology and the whiskey brands of the world, and set things on fire in front of us. Unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star, simply because we weren't able to be seated at all despite having a reservation. 2 groups ahead of us decided to leave after waiting over half an hour. The host let us know that only tables of 2s were available and let couples in before groups who have been waiting and were willing to wait that long only because it's impossible to get a table anywhere else on short notice these days. Which is why took the time to make reservations at all! I had hoped they would consolidate all the tables of 2s, then they would have been able to accomodate a larger group.

This place has great drinks, mostly whiskey based. The live music is always really fantastic, lively jazz enables which makes it a great place to go after swing dancing at Cats Corner just next door. The table service is good, and the decor is perfect for prohibition era speakeasy vibe.

Has a prohibition era decor and ambiance. If you love the old fashioned you should definitely try their cigar and cinnamon smoked one: It was by far the best I had in town.

Describing the service and music as bad would be a generous description. It took an hour to get second round of drinks, we were rarely checked on, and my friend didn't get her ordered food after 25 minutes. Whisky selection is great but was not enough to get back my time wasted. The band was out of time and couldn't keep tempo with each other, but I hope at least they were having fun.

My favorite place in Montreal! The whiskey selection is one of the best in the city and I loved the speakeasy atmosphere. The bartender was amazing (if you’re looking for a non-whiskey drink I recommend his own creation, the South Side). The food menu is short but a good complement to the cocktail list. We had the sliders which were delicious. Great, cozy ambiance that feels worlds away from the street below. Unfortunately the live jazz music was cancelled that evening for weather but they had a great stage set up that seems like a fun, intimate concert venue. I 100% recommend a visit to Bootlegger for the delicious cocktails and fun atmosphere!

On the second floor of a building, almost a bit hidden. Signage is sufficient to find your way. This bar specializes in whiskeys and to a lesser extent, beer. Cocktails are about 15$ with tax. Nice establishment, was greeted and found a place to sit. There was half a dozen people around 9pm. Around 10 PM there were almost 20. The place can seat about 60 patrons There was a live Jazz band. Website said they start at 8pm, Facebook page said 9pm, they started around 9:45 when the people started coming in. Ordered a free Old Fashioned using the Presto Montreal App. It came with an orange piece and an olive. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but really enjoyed it. It was nice and strong, the strength mitigated slightly by the orange and added sugar. I recommend it. I was mentioned that the free coupon doesn't include a tip. Is it normal to ask for a tip? Overall I felt well taken care of. Barmaid asked if my drink was good and seemed to care about my wellbeing. It's a nice low key place that isn't too packed, with live music. I could see it being my weekly driver. There's a lounge area with couches.

Really hip, cozy place with fantastic ambiance. Very interesting and delicious cocktails including choices such as cigar smoked bourbon and herbal drinks with actual herbs in them! Tasty and high quality snack foods. Staff was very friendly and knew their menu inside and out, so don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Prices aren't cheap, but reasonable given the quality of everything. Overall a very unique bar with live music if you're tired of the corporate chain pubs.

This is a very interesting place to be, they play jazz, improv, rap and jam.it has a nice vibe. They also have an open mic for those who wants to spits some rhymes, keyboard, and drum set. People are warm and you can make new friends over there, if you're keep a good vibe and a vibrant smile. A nice community over there

We came to Bootlegger on a Friday night. Walking in, all the staff were so amazing!! Big big shoutout to Ksenia. She was so awesome and so sweet all night! Christ and Jericho were also amazing! Christ made us some really good shots and drinks! Overall, very good vibes from everyone there, they were all so sweet and welcoming. We had such a fun night and will definitely be back!! ❤️❤️

It's really a great bar. Honestly, I'm always spending a good time when I go to Bootlegger. Staff is super friendly, they have so many drinks and whisky but for me, I definitely enjoy going for a nice and delicious boot of Death Valley. Also... The whisky tasting events are really great, I absolutely recommend it.

Literally a Haven for good whiskey, music and staff. I was suggested by the bartender to try an old fashioned here. Previously, I had only ever had generic run-of-the-mill bar old fashions and was clueless to how it should look or taste. I was not disappointed. Makers 76 and amazing technique provided for one of the best damned drinks I have EVER had. Hands down. The ambience is wonderful and you really feel like in an authentic prohibition-era setting. Fantastic place.

Don't expect to obtain a seat at this place even if you reserved online prior. We had made a reservation for 10pm and it seemed like everybody else in the line we talked too did as well who all left in the end. The host who was working on Saturday told us that he had no idea how long it would take for us to get our table and was extremely rude by asking if we were not Quebecers (which by the way we've all been living here all our life). I'm not even sure why this question is relevant because busy restaurants in Montreal would typically hold your table for 2 hours and you would have to make space for the next table who reserved after. This is standard folks! If you don't give a table to people who reserved on time, then don't let people reserve at all!! I don't recommend this place at all!

Wow! Impressive long bar with at least 4 levels of common to really rare whiskies, and other alcohols. Step ladder needed to reach topmost bottles! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely polite and respectful: how refreshing. Food was tasty, well prepared, and served promptly. Interesting prohibition era theme with real kerosene type lanterns on the tables. Live music weekends, jazz, blues, and DJ (dancing) round out the week. I'll go back.

their food menu is quite limited due to only having duck wings and pork burgers as their meat option. $14+tax for meatless nachos was unreasonable. besides that, it is a good place for creative, fun drinks in the area. the vibe is very dark, dim and mature with a live band later in the evenings.
