We went for a pre-dinner drink on the rooftop but took a while to be served. We went up to the bar to order drinks initially but were told it was table service, then waited at least 5 minutes for someone to bring a menu when we only wanted 2 lagers. Our waiter was more preoccupied with the table of young women next to us so we couldn't get his attention to ask for the bill for some time. Very nice view and cool decoration on the roof though.

I've been here many times. The food is always excellent. I've enjoyed Bison made into English favourites and English favourites made into bar snack food. Never had a problem with the drinks, either being cold or the taps being off, and it is nice to see full-sized drinks. My husband considers this one of the MUST stop at places every time we go to Banff and would go here over most restaurants, but then he's infected with a penchant for excellent English grub. For myself, definitely a stop to make and can't beat the owner's sense of humour.

The food was amazing! I had The Cascade burger I think it was called and everything about it was great, and the fries were nice and crispy and perfectly salted. The drinks were also yummy and the prices made me happy as well. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because our waitress was the most impersonable person I’ve ever met, she barely looked at us when she was at our table and forget polite small chat, she came off kind of rude. She also kept forgetting drinks, she didn’t bring my water the first time I asked and forgot to put my second drink order in. I didn’t catch her name but she was average height, long dark hair.

Can't say enough about my favourite all-time Banff bar. Never lets me down. There we were on a regular Sunday night and it was still hopping with the bar singing along. Great for quiet beer by the fire or party-time. My absolute go-to.

Very noisy for a pub, food leaves much room for improvement, bar staff will not own when they make a mistake on a drink order. If you don't know how to make a drink no shame in that poor it out and don't give the customer attitude and charge them full price. Not cool

I've been really hammered here and partied hard to live music with lots of friends. I have many great memories of being told to go home, or pay my tab, or stop dancing on the pool table. Whatever, this place was always fun. One of the longest standing establishments in Banff. Nice patio in the summer and great apres-ski vibe in the winter.

We come here every time we’re in Banff and have never been disappointed. My mom, my two kids and myself stopped by for lunch yesterday as she was craving the fish and chips. Our server was incredible. He was fast, efficient and had us laughing the entire time. The food was delicious, my kids said the Mac n Cheese was the best they ever had! Butter best part was when he finished up our visit with a magic trick for the kids. Thanks again!

I went for dinner with my sister and mom here Saturday and was hands down the best place I have ever ate at. The fish and chips were the best I have ever eaten. The guy standing outside was funny and very helpful. Our waiter went out of his way several times to make sure we were having a good time. I have never had service like that before! Just had our fourth meal here during our 2 week stay. Excellent place. So relaxing and the staff are brilliant. I only suggest that you increase the pool tables by another 1 or 2. Plenty of room. When we visit in the summer we will come back through. Thanks for our meals .

Food was good, I had the Cobb Salad, couldn’t finish it all, was very delicious. Wife had the French onion soup, said it was good too. We sat on the rooftop patio and the views were stunning. The only complaint I have is that it was a bit pricy, otherwise I recommend it.

(2017) This is the place to have a drink after a long day skiing. Most of the times live music (we were lucky there was really a great guy playing all kinds of famous music). Mixed crowd, young - old ... everybody is welcome. But you must be careful with the tequila shots... :-)

My wife and I dipped in here for a quick bite to eat. The plan was to have a couple drinks, some light pub food, then head back to our camp site, our bellies full and happy. A good way to end a pretty easy going birthday for her. The fact the bar was nearly empty when everything else had a 45+ minute wait should have been a warning. Undeterred, we ordered our drinks, and our food. The drinks were fine, a bit pricy for the service we had received to this point for such an empty establishment, but as for the drinks themselves, they were fine. We ordered food, and set about waiting. Once the food arrived we were promptly ignored for the rest of the experience. The chicken tenders were, at best "okay" and were more breading than actual chicken. The fries were a little bland, something salt and pepper, maybe even vinegar would have solved. If our waitress had come by. But my wife's fish and chips? Easily the most bland and tastely excuse for fish I have ever seen or tried. I'm not even convinced what she got was actually fish. Now, we would have voiced the concerns, but an empty pair of drinks and some half eaten food (my wife couldn't even finish the "fish", it completely ruined her appetite), later, and finally our waitress showed up again. Not a "how was it" or "everything good" but a prompt clearing of our dishes and a question if we were ready for the bill. To insult to injury, someone here thinks that the minimum tip the staff and food are worth is 18%. 10% for what we got was a little too generous still if you ask me. This place ruined my wife's birthday night, and if you are looking for an honest review and recommendation? Wait the 45 minutes somewhere else, the food will at least be palatable and the service might even be considered such.

Quite pricey considering it is a local pub. Gravy tasted like that powdered stuff made by Sysco or GFS, which is expected of pub fare, but for the price it was not worth it. Did not expect pop refills to cost $2. Saw a small blurb on the bottom of the receipt advising tourists to leave 15% - 20% as a tip stating it was a custom in Canada. Servers are paid a livable wage now, not below minimum. This is not a custom, but rather blatant greed. I understand Banff is not cheap to live in, but it's not anyone's perogative to tip. Lose the tipping blurb, make your own gravy, and cancel the refill gouging. $20 for a basic burger is ridiculous at a pub.

This place is so fun! Neat atmosphere and friendly staff. Live music every night starting at 10pm. My friends loved their burger and fries. The Cobb salad was AMAZING & could honestly feed two people. We also had the nachos double layer and were very crispy/crunchy chips! We were here several times throughout our visit. Unfortunately the patio on top was closed for reservations.

First they did not honour the Friday Fish and Chips special $5 off that was advertised on their web page. The waiter told us the web page wasn't updated yet but didn't give us the advertised price. Then it got worse when we found a dark black hair in my daughter's meal. The waiter was very apologetic and replaced it but guess what...the replacement meal also had a hair, this time, a lighter one. We have never had an experience like this before. Two hairs in a row. What is going on in the kitchen. Sounds like sabotage, we should have walked out. My daughter completely lost her appetite as did a few of the others in our party of 5. I told the waiter they have a serious kitchen problem and needed to improve their quality control. Not only should the cooks have caught this but the waiter should have too, especially the second time. They gave us a $10.20 (i.e., 10%) discount on our bill which hardly compensated for this disgusting experience. Two meals with hairs, one after the other...no excuse. They should have written off our whole bill.

We have visited the Rose and Crown on numerous occasions over the last several years. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The food is always good. Fish and chips are very good but it is the poutine I want to highlight. It is the best poutine I have had west of Québec City. Squeaky curds, crispy chips and the gravy is not too heavy. Highly recommended. Oh, I will also say I miss the liver and onions that used to be on your menu.

We specified that we were there for takeout but we were informed that it would take a bit of time. We aren't complaining about the time that it took to prep the food as we understand some items take time. The issue was when the server came with our food, it took 2 requests, another eye contact/wave and a final walk-up request for her to bring us the bill and machine about 15 minutes after providing our food.

We dropped in at 1am on Saturday in December, there was a band playin live music and it was jamming. Thankfully they were playing reggae music when we got there so it was good vibes. It's a fairly small dancefloor but a nice bar to have a few drinks and dance.

Great views from the patio, incredibly thoughtful drink selection (just the right amount without the kitchen sink!), delicious, gigantic portion fish and chips (shared with my wife), and friendly, attentive service to boot! Especially ones that go to every length to ensure you are dining safely and not putting anyone (including their own business) at risk.

We had a couple drinks Saturday night with the band and it was pretty rad than decided to try the fish and chips because everyone says they're awesome! They were definitely right! My sister, mom and I visited Banff from Calgary. It was very hard to choose a restaurant to dine in. After talking to some locals we decided we have to go here! First of all our server was by far the most amazing server we have all ever had. He was so nice, funny, and kind. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. He made us laugh so hard. I was the only one who had a beer, as he asked me if i wanted another i said no thanks enless you can convince these two to have one with me... a few moments later he brough out 3 shots of "tequila " . (Which was really ginger ale but i was the only one who herd him say that). After everyone took our shots i have never herd my mom laugh that hard. He made us have an unforgettable time. 2nd our fish and chips were so good! And crispy!! And not once did our glasses go empty. Will definitively be going back.

Busy on weekend nights. Went to see a friend play at the bar and all the tables were taken. We got lucky and managed to grab a table when people were leaving. Leave around an hour or two before the event to get a table. Food isn't bad, typical pub food. Live music is usually awesome.

Went in on Saterday to check it out and have a cool one. Saddly a cool one wasn't in the cards as not one employee even said hello. We sat there quite some time being noticed but ignored, it would seem service takes a back seat to socializing. We did however get to be witness to a baby having its dirty diaper changed on a table in the bar where one might be having food later. Classy. Naturally we saw ourselves out as I'm sure there must be some establishment in town that prides them selves on good service and no side show. My friends and I were having a great time till we were leaving. Left money on the table and was walking out and the waitress grabbed the back of my jacket and pulled me up the stairs and told us we did not pay. Manager got involved and threatened that he was going to call the police and have us deported even though we are canadian... and this was all over 9 dollars. Ended up double paying my bill. The service was alright. The food however, absolutely phenomenal. The macaroni and cheese was everything and more. Super creamy, super cheesy and the serving size was perfect. My friends got the steak sandwich which was fortunately for them on Steak Wednesday; meaning a meal that would've cost them $20 ended up costing them $14. They had no complaints only compliments. The onion soup was delicious and the fries were also very tasty. I would definitely go back, as long as my wallet will allow me. The food wasn't super pricey for a restaurant but a bit more expensive than your average pub. Didn't stay for the live entertainment. Wasn't really my scene. But if you're looking for a fantastic meal and you have about 20-25 dollars to spend, definitely visit the Rose & Crown.

The rooftop patio has amazing views and the service was excellent. The Caesar salad which we shared was large and very good. The steak sandwich was terrible and so tough I could hardly chew it. My husband had fish and chips which were overcooked and way more batter than fish. On both our meals the best thing was the fries and they weren’t that great. The food would have to improve a lot before we would come back.

front door man aggressively tried kicking my son out cause he was tired after a long drive from jasper. they were rude and treated us like second class people, and thats after we spent 180 dollars there and had 2 drinks each. We felt they didn't care even tho there was like 5 to 8 people there lastnight. you would think treating customers with more respect seeing they needed the business. We ate here on a Friday night. The place was relatively busy. Specials for the night were Fish and Chips and cheap Okanagan Pale Ale drafts. The waitress was pleasant, despite being very busy. My wife had the Pho noodle bowl which she thought was excellent. I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich with the country cole slaw. It was decent. All in all, a good experience and reasonable prices.

From our experience our meal was not great. The fries were sent back as they were soggy, over cooked and soaked in oil. They were dark brown, see picture below. We received another bowl full of the same and were told this is how they are done here. Well I am sorry but they are cooking them in either old oil, and the oil is not hot enough. If I had eaten them all I would have been sick, so left them and the waitress reduced the bill. So far two restaurants in Banf have been really bad.

Alright for a happy hour pint on the patio (if you can't find anywhere else to enjoy the view) or to watch live music at night but not worth for anything else. The menu is boring, unimaginative, food is tasteless and bland. Ambiance is artificial. Stuck up tourists are the main clientele. No fun.

Came here twice in a week because the vibe was really tight. First time with a bachelorette party - I'd asked for a patio table but my reservation was put on the second floor, which turned out to be better because it was right beside the live music and we were with a dancey bunch. Really fun night! Watch out for the mosquitos upstairs, they're gruesome! Fortunately the bartender very helpfully offered some bug spray! Came again another night and it was also a good time, surprisingly modest prices for a Banff bar. Would recommend to anyone looking for an upbeat Saturday night.

We stopped in for dinner on Wednesday. The server was great and the patio view was really nice. The poor rating is that the food was not that nice. I had the full rack of ribs. Looked good until you realize they are deep fried and tasted like overcooked chicken. They also had their own spin on ceasar salad that included chunks of ham but little flavor. I can see this being a great place to grab a pint and a glass of wine but I would skip on the food

We came for supper and had the Rose & Crown fish and chips. They were fantastic! I had one piece and my husband had the two piece. One was plenty for me. The batter is made in-house and has a bit of a peppery bite to it but paired with their house made tartar sauce it is excellent. We enjoyed their coleslaw and handcut fries as well.

We have finished eating for about 10mins, waiting to ask for our bill, the waiter came to serve drinks to the table next to us and carried on without any word. He carried on checking on his other tables. I went up to the bar to try to get our bill. He looked me right in the eyes was going to carry on doing whatever he was doing. I had to ask if I could pay for my bill. And only ten I got the bill. Not sure why he decided to ignore us after our food came out. Maybe cause we weren't there to drink? Maybe cause we're minorites? Who knows.

Came here with a large group (10+) on a Friday around 9-10pm (although the rest of the party had been there since much earlier) we didnt see the waiter for aleast half an hour upon arriving. When we he did come we had to wave our hands to get his attention for a drink and food. We didnt see an drink for aleast another half hour... the food though, AMAZING the steak sandwich is SO GOOD. Service was terrible all night. Everyone at the table agreed.. thankfully the food was good.

We were served drinks right before last call. 1 minute later a door man comes by and gives us a 10 min warning. Then comes right back and says 5 minutes guys. I looked at the time and it was 2 am on the dot. But I work in the industry so it was no problem I knew they wanted us out to close up and I was fine with that. But then 6 people showed up and sat at the bar?? So I was really confused. Well I soon found out that we were being forced out so they could start some kind of greasy after hours party. Pretty unprofessional. I'm a regular customer here but won't be going back any time soon.
