1 star just because we know our server at least was nice. Came in with my girlfriend and her parents. Keep in mind we both work in the industry. We got seated and were told the kitchen was an hour behind so at least we had that warning. We ordered the bucket of shrimp to start right away in hopes that 10 shrimp wouldn’t take a full hour. It took 70 minutes... Then our mains came out 10 minutes after. My girlfriends Caesar wrap came out with bacon after she said she was vegetarian and asked to sub the chicken in the wrap for mushrooms. They forgot the side to my salad. The rest of our food was dry and looked like it sat under the heater forever. I don’t mind waiting a bit for food, more than an hour is pushing it for sure. But at least if it’s gonna take that long, make sure it’s fresh and comes out right. And if it doesn’t, at the very least take the pop off and definitely don’t charge for 1 refill!

If not for the license plates, I would have thought I was in Ireland! Beautiful decor, Irish music playing In the background ! All the Irish tap beers, many Irish whiskeys and a great menu with authentic dinners and pub grove! Friendly staff and comfortable seats and stools! Live entertainment and reasonable prices too! Phil , the owner talked with the patrons and was very nice! The food was tasty and reasonable too! We're back in town in September and will definitely be stopping in here again!

Wonderful experience. They are using the RANS check in system for contact tracing, proper covid protocols and service was friendly and fast, even though they were as full as capacity would allow. Great tasting food and the live music was a great addition to feeling like a normal night out.

Food was absolutely delicious and they had the most vegetarian options I've seen on any menu in Canada. The owner was also a lovely man who gladly had the chats with everyone. And the bar staff were happy to have a chat despite being run off their feet.

We came to the Pub for the first time on the Labour day evening and it was full house. Covid rules and protocol are followed. Service was very fast and with the nice personal touch. We ordered heart warming Lobster Flambé and like it very much. We felt welcomed and respected. It is great place to go for a quick snack or the full meal, and Yes, they do have interesting beers. In a warm day you can enjoy patio with nice view to the shore. The pub has accessible entrance and a parking lot next to.

Ate at this establishment last evening. We were in town for a concert and not enough staff in for the crowed. Only ordered appetizers and waited an hr! Had to leave to make the concert and was treated very rudely but a waitress whom grabbed the take out tray out of my hands and threw my food in it and shoved it at me. Will not be back!!! Awful service????

A classic of maritime entertainment, you can't go to Sydney and not hit up the Triangle. It's a really big place so no shortage of seating. The apps are good, the local beer selection is excellent and the live music is fantastic. The staff is friendly, as you might expect on Cape Breton. Absolutely worth the visit. See if you can get someone to teach you to jig while you're there!

Great as always. Tried the shepperds pie...OMG in love with it. I'm a SP fan so it was a big deal. Great music, I enjoy food and drinks with friends while someone plays a guitar in the background. Suggestion...upgrade the chairs. Nothing has really changed there since it opened and I'm pretty sure I saw plastic over a broken window piece by our seat.

Had the nachos and Irish nachos split between our table. Both were fantastic. The regular nachos are enough to feed two adults. Lots of food on the plate, with toppings mixed all through which was nice. The Irish nachos were a little smaller but just as tasty. Different chips and different toppings. Plenty of sour cream and salsa on the side. Everything seemed fresh and tasted great. Highly recommend.

The STAFF is amazing. 5 stars The placement of the stage is poor. It should be on the upper level where the entertainment can be seen by all patrons. The owner was there talking to people the whole night while his (very short staffed) bar and restaurant was experiencing longer than usual wait times. No fault of the fantastic wait staff. Tje wait staff were so busy you could se the bed of sweat on all of them. This owner needs to do some soul searching, and practice what he preaches. If you are the owner of a business, you should at least be there to work, not act like one of the patrons.

Horrible staff, was physically assulted with 8 eye witnesses and got thrown out based on a girls word over mine. I think she was hooking up with the sleezy bouncer lol. Went back the next day to check cameras, guess what, there was none! Place is disgusting, only reason it stays in business is drunk teenagers on the weekends. (Jimmy the short bouncer loves that, eyein up teenage girls every chance he gets).

On our epic cabot trail bike trip we started and finished here. Probably the best liver and onions I've had were on my friend's plate. It was busy both nights, the service was good, but things were slow due to the busyness, but not to the point where it detracted from the evening. The outside patio was beautiful.

This location is going down hill. Bathrooms are not clean. Entrance doors are filthy. Music has been nothing to make me want to go...Food is mediocre at best...poorly run ...it really dissappoints me .... We visited the restaurant on our visit to Sydney. We were very disappointed in everything. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant which meant everything took very long. I ordered mussels, they tasted like I was licking the bottom of the ocean floor. I ordered a hot turkey sandwich and it tasted like it came frozen. The vegetables were clearly not fresh, the bread was stale, gray must have came powdered. Everything was gross, I ate one bite and could not stomach it. We were informed afterwards that they were planning on taking it off the menu. Perhaps letting us know when we ordered them would have been a better option.

As I've been to Sydney before, I thought I'd try one of the restaurants that I didn't make it to in the past. The restaurant was centrally located and had plenty of customer parking. The vibe was great and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately I opted for the "Steak, Steak and Stein" special which was two 5oz steaks with one side and also coleslaw. I asked for "medium" and ended up with super well done, which kinda turned me off. The side salad was about 8 small leafs lol, and lastly the coleslaw was nothing more than shredded cabbage with a pinch of salt, a tad bit of oil and vinegar (pretty lackluster). Wish I could say something better. When you travel, you really look forward to good meals.

What a terrible experience we had here. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday and we'll never be back. In the over 1 hour we were there they didn't even take our order for our main courses. It took over 20 minutes for them to bring one shot to the table. The dishes from our appetizers sat empty on our table forever and they never came to take them or our main order. The food was terrible and the pop was flat. 3 servers walked by us 15, if not 20 times. It wasn't busy either, there was us, one other table of two inside and 3 or 4 small tables outside. This isn't the first bad experience I've had here lately but it's definitely the last.

Dear Old Triangle chefs, if you read these reviews, please stop the out-dated and repulsive practice of putting muscles IN SHELLS in your chowder. Most of the best “in tune” restaurants abandoned this disgusting exercise years ago. Where are your brains? NOBODY likes this, except out of touch, obtuse chefs who think they are doing something “artistic”. This has long been rejected as artistic. It’s not artistic. Ask any real artist. Artistic is producing something people actually like. NEWSFLASH: None of your customers like it! Nobody wants to order a chowder only to have to dig muscle shells out of it, get your hands covered in chowder, because muscle shells can’t be delicately removed from a chowder with utensils, and the bottom line is, why should this be put on the customer? The whole point of going to a restaurant instead of eating at home is to have the food prepared for you and ready to eat. READY TO EAT. Any restaurant that continues in 2019 to put muscle shells in the chowder will have them thrown out in a complete mess for your staff to clean up and get a bad review for the whole restaurant. So you are doing everyone a disservice, including the restaurant itself and the staff. Especially if the rest of the establishment is really great and has lovely staff. The mess that is left on the table is not pretty and I guarantee your staff doesn’t like this extra work you cause them either. If you insist on putting muscles in your chowder, shell them first. Maybe you don’t want to do that because it is too much work? Right. It is. Too much work. Don’t make your customers do what you don’t want to do. Get with the times and stop acting like you are a backward hick joint in Sydney Nova Scotia. Do better for them.

Went for brunch today. Had been a few times before and it was delicious. Today was the worst food experience ive ever had. Had the jonny mceldoo. Couldn't sub out my beans for some reason. Didn't understand because it never was a problem before. Breakfast came. Eggs were not how I ordered then. Bacon was soo crispy it tasted burnt. Potatoes were black and dry. Sausages were terrible over done and had a terrible taste, ham was underdone and the toast... oh wait! It never came. My girlfriends eggs Benny came no as she ordered and the waitress took it back and when it came out "fixed" the whole plate was litterlly swimming in hollandaise sauce. It was a sad sight. Like most people would have been embarrassed to serve it. To top it all off after I paid I got short changed 9 bucks by the bartender who had to make change for the waitress. She's tries to correct it and apologized a bunch but I just gave it to her for a tip as she was really nice. I dunno who the chef they had one was but he should start looking for another job. Caesars were great tho!

Most authentic Irish pub I've ever been to! You can choose to sit near the live music and participate, or sit more towards the front and enjoy your table. Irish stew was awesome--it tastes just like mum's. My friend got the cod fish n chips and loved it. Great, friendly, prompt service to boot! Would definitely return.

Good experience overall, food was excellent, really enjoyed the sheppard's pie. Although we ate out on the deck the inside of the pub had a great traditional look to it with old photos up on the wall. Great food and service. Only thing that ticked me off was this one guy who I assume was a manager or owner. He was onsite and obviously "worked" at the place but yet did nothing to help out the staff who were obviously quite busy. Spent the whole time we were there chatting with random guests, during which time he would pull his mask down, assuming he had it on at all during that appearance. Come on man when you see you staff is obviously busy give them a hand. Work the door, bus tables run condiments do something. And for god sakes keep on your mask. Not only is it the law but your staff are dying in them trying to breath as the are run off their feet. At least show some support by keeping your on for solidarity, even if you don't plan on doing anything to help them

I love going to the old triangle! The food is wonderful! The atmosphere is so original for Cape Breton. It is a definite need to visit place in Sydney. They typically have live music which is always amazing! Some time people even get up to dance! Drinks are always spot on too!

A wonderful place, with a lovely view over the water. Staff were warm and welcoming, and super helpful. Food was superb, I had the Mac and cheese with added lobster, and my wife had the seafood chowder. We were both impressed with what we ordered. The pub was well looked after and clean, with plenty of character features. Will come again if we find ourselves in Nova Scotia again. 10/10.

We sauntered in off the street on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch on our way to Louisburg. We were greeted less than 1 minute of arriving and told to take a seat wherever we liked. The restaurant was very clean and everything you would wanna see/feel when walking into a good pub. There was only one server working, no other signs of staff anywhere. Inside was empty all but for one table but the patio was at half capacity. We loved the menu - making a choice was very hard! We waited a little while for our food to arrive but we watched the server running back and forth and doing a very fine job on his own! When the food arrived, the plating and presentation was awesome! My husband's fish and chips was very, very good, cooked to perfection. My Newfoundland Fish Cakes were the best I've had. Our server was pleasant and checked in with us regularly. On the way out, we both used the washroom and were super impressed with the cleanliness and "modern" amenities. The bathrooms were spotless. We can't wait to return on our next Cape Breton adventure to try more of the menu and maybe catch some live music!

We went here for St.Patricks day brunch and we weren't overly enthused. The live entertainment was amazing and the general ambience was great. But...the food was just not very good. They had a set menu for the day, which we completely understood. With that said there is a certain amount of leeway that should be given. For instance when you're vegetarian and everything on the menu has meat. K, not surprised but you'd think the simple request of some extra beans to make up for the lost meat would be a simple request, apparently not. Paying $15 for two eggs, one piece of soda bread, some hashbrowns and cold beans..no thanks. I could have made that at home several times over, and warm, for that price.

Our group spent the weekend in Sydney, and we had two dinners and a lunch here. We also spent the evening Friday and Saturday nights. Everyone really enjoyed their food, and the second day two more people ordered the Ancient Mariner because it was so good. The live entertainment was great, and everyone had a great time each evening. A good selection of craft beers, and the service was great, especially Eli. They were also very accommodating for our friend who is gluten free and vegetarian.

Sorry to tell the truth.... but, it took close to an hour to serve our food and then 4 of the 6 meals were wrong. Two steaks were cooked wrong, the boneless chicken bites were served as wings, then when we got the proper chicken bites, one order had the wrong sauce on them. Then 35 minutes later, I recieved the 3rd chicken bites order after being asked if I'd like to have them boxed to take home???? Oh yes, I didn't mention that the 3 surf n turf dinners were cold. Great atmosphere, music, and gathering place, if only the staff would step up there service!

Food wasn't great and orders were messed up, one at our table ended up with nothing to eat because they messed up order twice and just said forget it ????

We came down to the Old Triangle to see Signal Hill in Aug 2021, we reserved our table 2 months in advance and we were assured by the staff we'd have a clear view of the band for the show! When we arrived we were seated in the "Cubby" as the name describes it's a closet. These "seats" shouldn't be allowed to be sold IMO! Not for a show. Our server asked to have us moved but was handcuffed by Poor management and poor customer retention is the result. We won't return. Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Staff ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Management ⭐⭐⭐ Edit: The management engaged us before the end of the evening. We discussed the issue and found a resolution. Unfortunately it took a google review to provoke a response. I updated from 1⭐ to 4⭐

I had the Irish Nachos. They were very well done (too done) and the cheese could hardly be found. Also, the side of sour cream equaled maybe 2 Tbs. I asked for more but the waiter forgot. Drinks were delicious though :)

Food is delicious. A nice selection, I'd like to go back and try some more stuff. The pad Thai is so good, although I'd prefer crushed peanuts but that's personal preference. Service was speedy and attentive. Brought my kids in and everyone was friendly.

Slow service. Tried twice to eat there. Barely got noticed. Arrived at 6pm for Lobster night and told at 6:15 they were sold out. Really???

The place is overall bad and this may just be the covid talking but for the price I could have the best party ever. Got there for a Saturday get out with some pals, took ten minutes to get seated took even longer to get a server. I've work service befor so I know how it goes a couple of dudes are the least priority. Side note there was a group of men like a frat party or bachelor party screaming and shouting. So they were priority for the staff but all that said it was a bit much. Once we got a seat and menu's it went downhill fast. The prices are wild, like shocking high. Are meals came out to 50 or so dollars for "simple" pub food. The drink we even more with tip it was near 10 dollars a beer and same for shots. The problem was the slow service could barely get glow on and the food took close to 35 minutes to come. Overall spent near 300 dollars and was sober on the way back home In the cab. Once covid is over mabey but if I we're you just buy the food and drink and have fun at home. Will return post covis to see if it's better and will review it than.
