Tad busy but its an awesome few hours out with the kids. Best to pack your own lunch and have a picnic. Planetarium was a cool experience for 4 & 5 yo. We discovered kids zone on our way to exit at closing and wish we were there earlier.

Muzaffer Turker Emeklier

Great assortment of displays and engaging events dor people of all ages. Young kids to the retired. Reasonable entry and special show prices especially for teachers ans concession. Educational and highly innovative ans immersive. Outside design is offputting, but son't let that deter you. Offers camps and unique experiences, celebrates world events and has a fairly decent merchandise shop - catering more for the under 15 age bracket. Special night events for adults only, and planetarium narrator is funny yet knowledgable.

Den R

This is a wonderful place for the whole family. Pack your own lunch, have a picnic and enjoy the free shows!

John Cooper

Revisited recently for the Moon Exhibition. A very creative and special way to see the moon. Other areas were quite crowded. Very educational, especially for children. A few long-term interactive exhibits need repairs/maintenance.

Account Melbourne

Great place to "get your Science on". Lots of interactive exhibits for kids and outdoor play areas to blow off some steam. Reasonably priced cafe too.

Mike Scott

Keep your expectations low, it's not that big. My kid loved the planetariu movie and it's a paid event.Cafe is expensive. Some of the exhibit items are not working. You can cover this museum by 2hrs max.

Robert Crompton

Quite interesting and very useful for the development of science for children and adolescents.

Sandra Traini

Really informative for the kids and they would be involved in science activities.. Can very well spend a day out there with the kids.

Kimberly Baxter

While it's located within an industrial area, the museum itself is a well maintained place. It had lots of interactive exhibits that engages young minds and sparks interest in science. This is a place to be for families with young kids. Pretty fun for adults too.

Jelle van der Aart

My kids love it there , especially all the interactive things they can do ... Will be back again

Ivan Neva

We went specifically to see the Lego exhibition and we weren't disappointed.

Malcolm Young

The adults and kids absolutely loved this venue. It was amazing ! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. So many activities.

Lavina H

This place is great. We visit most school holidays. Kids love it and great place to take the kids on rainy days. Good value for money too

Emily May

Outstanding interactive museum. My young son loves how hands on the exhibits are - perfectly pitched for children (and adults) of all ages. The old pump house adds some history into the mix too.

Paige Frank

A great place for young and old who like to touch, discover and being challenge. My 3 years old love the playground indoor and have a bit of fun using the wheel barrow and bringing the bricks up. She didn t like the "ticket to universe" as it definetly not designed for kids.

Evan Sparks

Always a treat when going to Scienceworks. The Moon exhibition is great, with lots of standing sitting walking and pushing stroller room, as with the rest of the place. Corridors are wide, although packed with prams, strollers, kids, parents and families, we all got to enjoy the place. Very kid friendly for all ages. Parents room ???? Outdoor arena ???? Planetarium experience, long.. But ???? If you want to go to the gift shop, go first... Don't wait till the end of your visit cos it'll be closed and you b sad.

Vismay Dave

An awesome day out. Takes your kids or even adults to the science works museum for a few hours of great entertainment. Experience the past with models and pictures of our history. Or give a few of the sport or health tests a go. Would recommend to everyone. We got annual passes which were a great price and now we can go any time we like.

Darren & Kylie Perera

Great for the young kids with lots of interactive gadgets. If you want to see any shows make sure you book in advance as they sell out really quickly.

Edward Stephen

Great place to take kids of all ages. The toddler room is terrific for the younger ones, and the other exhibits are great as they get a little older. A very good choice when thinking of things to do with the kids on a cold wet day.

Chris Lobo

My review is regarding the online ticketing system. I had a very bad experience with it. I have been trying secure ticket online and it continued to put me in queue. It put me in queue thrice. Everytime when my turn came it showed a start time with a pop up asking whether I want to continue or not. After clicking yes it showed me that I am being redirected to the website. After few minutes it showed an apology message saying something went wrong and put me in queue again. I spent almost 20 minutes doing this. Ultimately had to abandon the idea of visiting. My request to management is that the online ticketing system needs to be reviewed properly.

Graeme Moore

It’s fun and interesting for kids and adults ????

Kieran “Sinista” Stueven

That’s Amazing place, you should go there and enjoy with your family or friends. ☺️

Foad Farrokhnia

Had myself, my brother, a nine and thirteen year old. We had a great afternoon. Loved the music interactions and the sports ones. Especially the Mood Room

Zoe Robertson

What can I say except...wonderful. one of the best places and a must see, located in Spotswood. We love using our musuem membership here. The pumping station, IMAX, planaterium, Lego displays and massive amounts of science related stuff makes this an awesome monthly excursion for me and my child. Absolutely fantastic for EVERYONE young and old. The staff are lovely here and we always find plenty to do!

J. Jay Nathan

Interesting place, highly recomended for families with children.

Jakob Stricker

Nice place to spend time with kids.

Ben Adelaide (No Longer At Home)

Great place for the kids and adults. Lots of interesting and fun things to see and learn. It was seriously busy during school holidays, the cafe food was terrible and there weren't any seats available.

Eglantine Genesty

Customer service 5 stars. Cleanliness 5 star. However, the place is in need of a major update and so many things are not in use, broken, missing items or really run down. Plant wall to show “eco” green walls nearly dead and not full and lushes, multiple touch screens not working, 3D glasses for soccer area missing, base balls missing, lights room upstairs only 2 out of 3 working, fans not working upstairs in snow box, I could go on, really disappointing actually. The place is so run down and needs some TLC.

Sarah Walton (Walty)

Toddler perspective...Cheap day out. Better than any play centre. Just go during a weekday as the weekends are busier with older kids.

Thomas Gleeson

Went there with my 3 year old son who absolutely loved it and had a ball. Spent a few hours checking out the toddler area and some of the other exhibits, followed by a show in the planetarium. Great value and highly recommended.

Interesting place to bring kids to to explore, try, do, learn about Science. Kids become more interested how things work and why.

Mj M

I loved it here. As a scientist myself, I respect how the centre approaches the topic in a fun and interactive way, whilst also not "dumbing it down" to a point where it would alienate adults. The additional tours are also well worth it. Would definitely recommend this place- great day out

Mo Ni

Had a fantastic time discovering allthe wonderful science displays as a family. Also witnessed the live lightning presentation. Worth going to discover the weird and wonderful.

Daniel Tan

The children enjoyed all of the hands on displays and especially getting to run against Cathy Freeman . We loved the planetarium. Our guide was fantastic.

Rebeca Sodré

Great work as a tech museum would have loved to see more working models rather than just display ones. Kids loved some exhibits like the design pad and sprint area but were bored after some time. Cafe closed early so no comments there.

Such a great place to go, weather young or old! Plenty of things to do and learn. Been coming here every other year during the holidays and it never gets old for me

Always fun and interesting things to do and explore. I did notice a few items broken or not working properly. Its starting to look like it needs a bit of an overhaul and maybe some new displays. The other additional exhibitions are always great and the lightning room and planetarium are always worth visiting. Overall great place for kids of all ages. Loved it.

Meghan Street

Great place for the kids, didn't do any of the special stuff, will do next time. Very interactive for the kids

Simon Green

A great day out! The airplay ground was very interactive and we also got to make a paper plane and see how far it could fly. The planetarium show (we saw Tycho to the moon) was really good and we also got to see the Melbourne night sky. The lightning show was a highlight of our trip!

Scott Mordecai

ScienceWorks was really cool, it tells about the evolution of technology, science, education, etc.

Clinton Russell

Great place to bring younger and older kids. We enjoyed it even as adults. Dedicated play area for under 5yo which my 3yo loved. Kept him entertained for a while. We’ll definitely be back to see other things that are more suited to an older child.

Gary Quinton

I was expecting a more high tech place. It feels a bit dated. Needs to be at the level of the Melbourne museum.

Balaji Pg

Really fun day out - we have toddlers and they absolutely loved it. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and everything was laid out to help families - pram parking zones, an exhibition is on at the moment for 0-5 year olds, and nearly every item is interactive while being educational.

Albert Comper

always worth going a couple of times a year as there are rotational exhibit. aimed at kids and kids at heart. The quality of short movies in the planetarium is always improving. now with two coffee shops :) so something for the grownups. Oh and there are 5 public BBQs big happy. can get crowded in the holidays, but regular days are pretty chill.

I visited Scienceworks a few years ago, and it seemed to be a bigger exhibition overall back then. You used to be able to go up some stairs into another part which seems to be closed right now. However, we took our 2 year old toddler this year and she really really enjoyed the new temporary children's exhibit. There was plenty of stuff for her to do which kept her busy and she had a lot of fun for a few hours.

Emily W.

What makes this place so good is that it attracts all types. The science here is made so everyone can understand, and interactive, to make it an enjoyable experience even for the oldest. It redefines a sense of learning in school. I used to come here a lot of times as a child, seeing how it can be very fun

Luna Pandora

A great place to learn about science. Great for all ages. Need to spend all day here to see everything, and the extra shows are a must. Very fun, friendly staff, and so much to do and learn. Will be attending again really soon

Asela Perera

A great family day out with loads of interactive displays, keeps the kids occupied for hours. If you're willing to shell out a little extra, the planetarium is worth a visit. Cafe is a bit of a disappointment (cafeteria style with surley and undertrained staff), but you don't go there for the food. Take a picnic to eat outside.

imran aziz

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Scienceworks, the collectors stores tour is a must do. It was an incredible experience learning about the history and the evolution of creations all around the world and within Victoria.

Gabby Schutte

Wohoooo, best place for kids (big and small) and dont miss grazeland next door if you do make it out here, perfect day out

Pamela Maria

Bouldering gyms have reopened already but the wall at scienceworks is still closed.

Tatiana Gourko

Great. Lots for the kids to do, even my 5 month old baby enjoyed the lights and did some tummy time on the light tables.

Naomi B

Scienceworks obviously deserves 5 stars because of its ability to keep my kids and I entertained for a whole day. The only reason I give it 4 is that we visit once every year or two and it seems like the same interactions are broken or don't work well every year. The place is clean, which is great, but finding seating can be hard and there doesn't seem to be a focus or repairing broken 'games'.

St Margaret Mary's Brunswick @ Extend

really great value for money for a family. maybe not the best place for younger children in the actual museum part, even though they had a room specifically for under 5. probably best enjoyed by kids over 6 or 7. lots of interactive things to look at , reasonable prices and nice food at the cafe, outside in the play areas were awesome for little kids, difficult to spend to much time out side as the weather was not great. overall great day out, staff were helpful and knowledgable. will definitely go again

Jaroslav Madacki

The new children's area is fantastic. Took our baby and toddler and they both thoroughly enjoyed all the interactive activities and sensory play areas.

Adam Lichoudaris

Science Works is awesome my kids love it. The Cafe however is overpriced and the food is terrible.

Alana S.

Loved the range of displays. Took the family and they all had a ball! The tiny Melbourne was my favourite but the 11'year old was all about the future cars! I would highly recommend the planetarium and it's all really cheap for the family! Be prepared to spend the whole day :)

Ash

This is a very unique museum. It was really neat to see the history of how our technology has grown and advanced. I think my favorite part was seeing the faraday cage demonstration and going into the old pumping station.

Celine Nourry

The indoor kids play area is awesome! I love the dim lighting, helps make the place not overwhelming despite having a lot going on. Promotes team work amongst the kids and has heaps of textural and interactive activities. Pretty standard outdoor playground, with some rolling and twist swings that usually have a line to play on and are prone to accidents. Cafe there is over priced so BYO picnic. Entry is very reasonable though so guess it balances out. Great day out!

Yuri Miloslavsky

Good experience for kids. Well explained theories. Good for half day trip

Matt Havard

This is the first museum that I visit in Australia and my experience was really cool. However I'd like to let some points about the Brickman exhibition: 1- in Sydney Lego City I missed the Opera House Lego build. 2- I think that could be more big Legos built, it wasn't too much big builds as I was thinking. 3- could have small parts to build the Lego of each city, for example Opera House could be build by the guests. That are the notes that I wanna save about. But I love my time in there especially building Lego.

F Paul

Definitely a place to go if you have kids and try to find things for them to do (playground, interactive displays, picnic area, show and tell session). Else, it's a little entertaining for adults too. The physical ground size is big but compared to other science museums I've visited, it's not as many things to see. However of you haven't been, do give a visit.

Nicole Gardiner

Is a nice place to go! A lot of interactive displays. The entry is free for concession holders (including students) We also entered to the planetarium ($9) to see a movie and a very detailed explanation afterwards.

kelly morrison

A really good day out with the family. Lots to do, and lots to see. Be mindful that there is the general exhibition and then there’s the special shows (that are charged separately) - these are booked sessions so need some careful planning.

Tanya Bellchambers

It was great!! Plenty to do, cafe has no soft drinks in it (so good!!!). Planetarium always impresses, .20th of a second from beating Cathy Freeman. Great place for kids and Adults.

Katie N L

Previous experiences have been thrilling but I could as I observed their where too many crazy children and the place was filled with crazy beings. The interactive exhibitions where stoked with staying there for 30 mins and not letting others try, this a fault due to the parents letting their children run havoc. DO NOT GO ON SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!

Leith Newns

Oh wow, oh wow, this place is an educational haven for both kids n adults alike. Even though it's meant for kids, adults can also enjoy themselves and bask in the miracle of science. Really2 worth a visit when you are in melbourne, especially when you've got kids. Come here in the morning, around 10 or 11 is perfect because usually people spend about 3-4 hours in this place. Its nearest train station is Spotswood.

Jeremy Rendell

If you get the train, the walk here feels a little bit like youve gone the wrong way, a sign or two might be reassuring. The pump works part of the museum feels a bit of a missed opportunity with a large space and not much going on. The views to the bridge are cool. The exhibits were fantastic in the main part of the museum though, lots of interactive stuff and interesting. We could have spent longer here! The planetarium was our favourite though, a really great show taking in the skies above.

Adit Uday

A wonderful and interactive place to kill a few hours with kids! They had so much fun and were asleep as soon as they got in the car.

Anna Thomson

Weekday

Mrs Sadovsky

Fantastic. You need a full day here to see everything, we got here at midday and had 4 hours here but did a planetarium show and the lightning room so we saw less than half of the actual museum. Will definitely be returning to see the rest. The lightning room is amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Paul Douglas

Great range of interesting interactive exhibits and activities available. Free for younger children and seniors. Apparently there can sometimes be challenges with parking and sometimes long queues at the most popular times. However it was ok for me on the Monday, first day of school holidays ????

Cameron Maher

Loved it! The lightening show and the Moon walk was the best! Planetarium was not working the Monday we went, unfortunately. There were a lot of experiment which we enjoyed. Science nerds would love it. The top floor was about LIGO and waves of different kinds. Enlightening. I don't think a day is enough for Science works.

Deniz Kilicci

Great fun for the entire family. Take the time to enjoy the free shows or spend a few dollars to experience the special shows including planetarium and lightning. Everything is awesome. The kids are exhausted and may have learnt something. We'll be aback again.

Keith Bawden

A no go during school holidays and if they have an exhibition on. We went during school holidays, on a rainy day and were unaware the Brickman exhibition was on. The exhibition gave access to the museum also, you literally didn't have a square metre to yourself. Numbers need to be controlled to ensure people can actually learn something. Should have demanded a refund.

Maggie Lum

A very entertaining centre for the entirety of the family. Bring food and water with you. The shows are a must see specially the lightning show by Owen. Parking was easy during a busy time of the year and very accessible location.

A B

Great nostalgic visit, some new elements, some classics. Saw Starlight at the Planetarium, was a great watch, but definitely for the more mature audience, wouldn't recommend for the very young.

Stephen Halliwell

Facilities are always kept up to date and interactive for all ages! Toddlers to adults there is something for everyone. Avoid school holidays as its VERY busy, great value activity in melb

joanne hardy

Great place to bring children and toddlers. Lots of practical exhibits and play areas for kids. My son spent the whole day playing there. The Lightning Exhibit was very interesting and exciting as well. As mentioned by others, the food here is quite expensive and mediocre. Buying food here is more for convenience. If you can pack your own food, it's more worthwhile.

Denis C05

Great place to take the kids, gets packed during weekends and school holidays so get in early and beat the crowds

Brendan Trinh

A very interesting experience I hadn't heard of before seeing an ad on one of Melbourne's famous trams. Approximately 30 minutes out from Flinders Station, it would be an excellent way to spend part of a day with kids or solo.

Paige Murrell

I went to check out Melbourne's sewerage system. Steam engines and all that. I also got to see a workshop full of telescope. It was built in Melbourne, burned in the Canberra fires and is now being restored in Melbourne. Also Australia's first computer. 1948? Finished off with a tour of the storerooms. Very good! Must see. Also lots of things to keep children quiet.

Emilio Mason

Comparing with the Questacon, Scienceworks is not big. My kids still enjoy it and loved the Bible mania show. We also spent lots of time in the sport science section.

Justin Giuliano

Lots of interactive sections but unfortunately they are for one person at a time which just wasn't possible with the amount of people there. I saw a video in the planetarium which was very enjoyable and worth the extra dollar. Main entry seems a bit overpriced. Staff are lovely and very helpful.

Cassandra McPhail

Awesome experience with the show items. Especially loved the beyond perspective area with the vibrating couches and light projections. Would recommend and revisit.

Sharon Tay

Beautiful place and offers good attraction for the family. The cinema dome is amazing, definitely worth checking. I’ve done a membership as it’s a better value for money. They also have a great kids playground to keep them busy. A better cafeteria would be great as the food offered is quite poor in selection and didn’t make a good impression on me.

David Middleton

Scienceworks is by far one of the best placing to go to with your kids, it has sooooo many interesting things to do to keep adults and kids entertained for hours. Would recommend going here, and also pay the $4 booking fee for the online ticket to avoid the queues.

Michelle Mclaren

Great place to bring the little kids and the big kids to learn, explore and play with science.

Seb Pillon

Fantastic value for money and a great place for the whole family. We went to see the moon exhibition and wasn't disappointed. Would like to have seen better and healthier options in the cafe though.

KJ Sethna

Great place to spend an hour or two if you have kids. Definitely worth joining as museum member!

Wayne Jones

So much to do... allow at least half a day... but you could spend a full day easily if you see the shows. The day we went it was super busy! The exhibits were great - something for all ages. The moon was a nice peaceful display and the show we watched on lightening was awesome. The only downside was that the canteen didn't cope with the numbers - crazy long waits and completely inefficient system of waiting in the one line where there was one person serving hot food plates, even if you just wanted a drink from the self serve fridge.

Nicholas Phipps (PhiAU)

Grandchildren all the way from Sydney loved it. They didn't want to leave. And Planetarium awesome! Robert

James Staples

A great place for family visit, facility is plentiful, staff is friendly, the place is very clean and its a good place to know environment/human body/outer space etc. we paid for air ground ticket include air area and inflate outdoor facility, to be honest its a little pricy for this part, but overall it is fine.

Penny Marshall

Excellent Get there early and leave late

Annabelle Leve

Very busy and not alot of staff to ask questions too

Scienceworks is a science museum in Melbourne, Australia. It is a venue of Museums Victoria which administers the cultural and scientific collections of the State of Victoria. It is located in the suburb of Spotswood. Opened on 28 March 1992, Scienceworks is housed in a purpose-built building "styled along industrial lines" near the historic Spotswood Pumping Station, constructed in 1897, whose steam engines form an associated exhibit. Displays and activities offered by the museum include hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and tours. The "lightning room" is a 120-seat auditorium that presents demonstrations about electricity, featuring a giant Tesla Coil, capable of generating two million volts of electricity, producing three metre lightning bolts. Melbourne Planetarium is housed on site. Until late 2013, the 1883 clock tower from Flinders Street station was also located at the museum. The clock had been moved to Princes Bridge station in 1905 and Spencer Street station in 1911, where it remained until sold into private ownership after the station redevelopment of 1967. The clock restored with an electric movement is now located at the Southern Cross station.

YinG L TanG

Really interesting for children. The presenter of the planetarium is really good, explains it well.

KidTripper - Melbourne

Science works has a wide range of awesome activities that the whole family can do and it’s great seeing all the exhibits and doing all the interactive stuff that’s there

sadaf javadian

My 16 month old loved the build and play area, spent a good hour in there using up all her energy! I found the rest of the place a little lacking, might be better for children a little older than my daughter. I felt as though there was some work happening upstairs so possibly more exhibits to keep an eye out for. A pleasant morning spent there, and would try to go back again when bubs is a bit older.

Kieran Short

Great place to take the kids.. They could spend the whole day here. Not very expensive either.

Ronny Wijaya

Took my 3 year old here today, she had lots of fun. Cafe has no soft drinks and i think thats amazing but they do have 2 windows that are boarded up does not look nice, lady at front desk said a child ran through them?

Paul Himmelreich

Fantastic day out for kids and adults too. The permanent exhibit (SportsWorks) is a lot of physical fun, the lightning room is very very cool and I had to drag my 5-year old out of the inside play area because they were closing. Definitely put it on your radar.

james stewart

Interesting displays related to sports. Interactive for young and old to try. On our visit early Dec 2017 there were some areas undergoing improvement and from Aussie friends told previous visits included interactive area on upper level which was not available this visit. In the morning exhibits swamped by primary school kids on school visits. After lunch very quiet. Would have been a quick visit but we sat in the air con and talked while the kids played. You can bring own lunch and eat at benches outside or buy food/drink from on-site cafe.

prasanth govindapuram

Great place for young and old esp young kids will have a ball with interactive activities for them to get involved in and the moon display is amazing

Alan Grant

During the weekday mornings its swarming with school groups, so little ones wom't get much of a go at playing with the exhibits (except in the toddler room, which is also crowded because of the school groups). After about 11.30 the numbers thin out and you can have some fun. It's even better after ~1.30pm. The staff are lovely and helpful. The outside playground has plenty if benches & tables to relax whilst the kids play & eat snacks/lunch.

Chel's Network

Amazing Museum ???? we enjoyed being there and my kids spend wonderful time to do many activities

Ramman Bsm

I love Scienceworks! Such an interesting, affordable activity for the family. We had kids from 7 through to 16 and they all had a great time. Entry is $15 for adults (non members) and kids, concessions and students are free. We went to the lightning room show which cost an additional $8 each. Worth every cent! Seeing lightning created right before our eyes was amazing. Quite loud if you have kids or adults who are sensitive to noise. The sports area was a lot of fun for adults and kids alike; testing reflexes, racing Cathy Freeman and competing in a wheelchair race. Upstairs was an exhibit called Beyond Perception which had some cool activities. Aimed more at teenagers with lots of physics based information, but the young ones enjoyed it too. Older 2 kids, aged 13 and 16, also did a VR activity where they had to complete a mission on the moon. This was an extra $22 each. They absolutely loved it, although the 13 year old had a fee issues because the VR goggles were a bit big. Gift shop had so many cool items, but they're not cheap. I particularly like the stuffed toy microbes. Who wouldn't want a cute and cuddly Ebola virus? A great family day out!

I remember going here when I was younger and they had the upside-down room. Was aloooooot of fun. Still is, gets the kids away and having fun so the adults can chill out. very informative activities for every age group.

Zuhair Butt

Really good place for kids. My 3 year old daughter loved the Tycho to the Moon Planetarium show. Lots of different areas to explore.

Gautam Khullar

Planetarium experience was totally cool. Average price for what you get but it's different and educational at the same time, as well as being a movie studio. It's part of Museum Victoria and they do a great job of everything they do. Go and check this one out! Not recommended for under 5's as it's a "movie theater" type experience with a narrative by a member of staff. Great for birthday parties with a science works pass maybe?

Kristy S

Little kids day in is always a lot of fun with a toddler/preschooler. It can get pretty packed indoors, but the outdoor activities, in the amphitheater or on the grass, are always focussed on where they are at. We danced to a band, ran around a grass maze, watched the bubble show, climbed on the play equipment and learned a robot dance/coding... All before we even went inside the museum!

Alex Ward

Been there with my close friend. The museum live show "A ticket to universe" is amazing and filled with a funny yet informative narration. There is also a lot of games and science works which are great to be played. Superb!

Ian Atienza

Like many other children, I went to Scienceworks on a school excursion and remember the running wall and not much else. I wanted to see the Museum of the Moon showing after seeing an article. My friend and I had recently been to the Planetarium nights there and so we decided to do a day trip together.

David Forte

Toddler room and outside play area were perfect for my 1½ year old

Stephen Cahaya

Great space for kids, but please keep an eye on them and make sure they're respectful.

Arno Redant

A bit underwhelming, or maybe I expect too much ???? Parking could fill up very fast on weekends and public holidays so it would pay to get there before it opens. There could also be queues to the ticket counters - something that can be circumvented by booking online. Good exhibits but may not be able to properly experience some due to crowding. Food options are limited so try and work around meal times.

Rita Hasan

Excellent experience. LOTS of crowds during school hols, but it does clear out later in the day. Great displays and interactive opportunities. There were staff present and their knowledge was extensive, the planetarium is well worth booking.

Rad Circles

Very important educational center for the little ones.

KHALID ELMOBAYED

Great day out for the kids and lots of educational interactive displays mixed with fun activities. There is a planetarium and also lots of old trains and automobiles from Victorian history. The sports memorabilia section is great and the playgrounds are good to relax in whilst you have some refreshments. Nice day out during school holidays.

Craig Wilson

Fun and educational! Love it and the amazing experience the team provide...thank you! The kids loved all the activities.

Solidizm

Get your tickets online prior to arriving. The additional planetarium experience was certainly worth the money. The kids loved it and the 'children within the adults' can also have some fun. Wouldn't recommend for a 1st date because you could get petty sweaty in their (not so much the kind you may look for) unless you're realty competitive and it'll work to your advantage.

Khalid Bahar

Great staff, a good spread of activities and information. A few broken ones as well. We took our almost three year old and she greatly enjoyed the building area for little ones, and the movie 'Tycho goes to the moon' at the planetarium

Nifty Nev

Great way to introduce kids to some of the sciences. 2/2 nieces and 1/1 nephew had a blast!

Raymond Charlton

So I’m going to have to disagree with many of the other reviews. Many of the exhibits neglected to explain any of the science. Sure there may have been some buttons to push etc, but why does light not shine as brightly for an ice sample of a certain age? Well the kids wouldn’t have learned why based on the information they were given. We did feel that a huge opportunity was missed. We’ve seen some amazing science museums and would encourage the people responsible to take a close look at the Exploratorium in San Francisco as an example. Their exhibits are interactive, educational, entertaining, and inspiring. They do an amazing job at teaching science. This was very disappointing and I can’t see it inspiring many children to get into stem subjects. I’d be curious to know what each of the children there today said they learned when they got home. ????????‍♀️

Adele L

Great place for the kids, didn't do any of the special stuff, will do next time. Very interactive for the kids

Paul Aburn

Overcrowded.Have your Covid vaccination printed or on your Medicare app.Lots to do but too many people.Planetarium show starlight was the highlight.

Such a great place to learn about everyday things and spend time with family and friends. Definitely recommend if you have kids so they can learn about the "WHY" in the world.

Mick Wiedermann

Took a weekend visit with my family and young nephew who had an absolute blast! Plenty to do and see with interactive exhibits meaning the kids learn without having to try! Highly recommended!

Abhishek Gupta

Not only was the quality of the films extremely low, the lack of flashing lights warning lead to photosensitive epileptic complications. only redeeming factor was quality of staff, but this is certainly not enough for me to consider ever going bacl

Adithya Udupa

A bit of fun to spend a couple of hours, maybe learn something, have fun and read some of Melbourne's history

Tim Chmielewski

they got rid of nitty gritty supercity and the chicken sandwich from the cafe gave me salmonella.

Justin Koroheke

My children and entire family loved their visit to the museum. There are plenty of informative and interactive exhibits that will provide an entire day of fun and education. Don't miss out on the planetarium shows either, they are truly amazing. An absolutely inspiring experience.

JC

Kids had a fantastic time with plenty of hands on activities. Was quite busy being a Saturday which meant lining up for most features, but that is to be expected of such a big attraction. It was good to see a few things remained from when I went over 15 years ago such as the Cathy Freeman racing section

Grant Frazer

Amazing place full of great activities for kids of all ages

We went for the first time to visit a one off exhibition, i was blown away with the things they're showcasing. So many educational exhibit wrapped in an fun interactive package. My 3 year old was having a ball, even the wife & myself was having so much fun.

Leigh M (Tattwa Networks)

Brilliant place for kids of all ages. Adults and kids all appear to enjoy the variety of educational fun activities on offer. Worth returning every 3 months or so as new and interesting stuff is added. I enjoy taking my grandkids to this place. Even the coffee is great.

Eddy Heriyanto

Great place to visit with kids. Better still take the annual museum membership that gives you access to all Melbourne museums throughout the year at just 99$ (@ the time of posting) for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 kids. This membership gives access all year to not just the science works museum, but also the Melbourne Museum and National Immigration museum also. There is free parking on the road or full day parking for $5 inside the museum premises. Alternatively, you can also use the PAYSTAY app. Opening hours: 9.00 AM to 4:30 PM Note that the last shows(Lightning room and Planetarium) are at 3PM and to get best seats (Last rows) it is recommended to be there 15 min early for each show. Attractions: Apart from the immersing experience in the main museum, there is a planetarium, lightning room and pump works exhibit. There are loads of activities for families including a toddler play area. The best thing is the museum keeps things updated making every visit a new experience. Highly recommended visit. COVID-Safe measures: Sanitisers are available throughout the facilities and are functional. Covid safe rules are applicable as per government recommendations.

Meekee Dee

Great fun for all ages!

Natalie Hamman

Great for inquisitive minds

Samuel Eades

Plenty of things to stimulate kids minds and get them thinking. You might learn something too. Planetarium is a must extra visit. Some shows cost extra on top of entrance fee. Food is ok and on the expensive side, but isn't that always the case.

Fadi Mansour

My children and entire family loved their visit to the museum. There are plenty of informative and interactive exhibits that will provide an entire day of fun and education. Don't miss out on the planetarium shows either, they are truly amazing. An absolutely inspiring experience.

Kaligo NA

One of the best science focused museums, in the world. For grown-ups and little ones alike. Excellent range of exhibits from a wide variety of scientific disciplines. The planetarium alone is worth the price of admission.

ElectricHomie

I remember going here as a kid, true I don't remember much though. I remember racing Cathy Freeman and making a skeleton pedal as fast as I could and that's about it but I do remember spending ages here learning and being blown away. That was years ago (more than I'll admit) and now it was time for me to bring my own daughter here. I gotta be honest I was surprised at how much smaller it was than in my memory but even so it's jam packed with stuff to do. Almost literally every available bit of space is filled with things to look at or play with. I think my favorite bit though was the pump house, you're lucky I can't take a photo of a smell hahaha. Anyway, if you're heading out here a couple of things to remember, first it is popular!!! So if you want to come here consider the timing, we had heaps of people there so it was a bit hard to move around. Next there is a small cafe when you enter but don't be fooled into thinking it's the only one. Once we had waited for our snacks we walked outside to see two empty cafes and lastly if you're in the queue to get entry remember you can use your phone to pre-purchase tickets and skip the queue entirely! Anyhow, have fun! Learn lots!!

Jason Pang

The planetarium is dope, as is the exhibition of space and its ability to bend. Too many children, but I didn't realise it was school holidays. Some more adult sections would be nice, but probably not so profitable.

Dan Libbesson

I don't think my kids would ever tire of coming to Scienceworks...and I don't know if it's me or them who is more excited about going to the planetarium! Watch the lightning room show! It's pretty cool ???? My advice would be to get there early and spend the day, to experience everything. I'd pack snacks next time too as there can be a long wait when buying food (especially when kids are 'suddenly starving'). Also, it was easier for me to buy tickets online to include everything we wanted to do at Scienceworks...and saved us waiting in queue to get in when we arrived.

Abbas Koleini

This rating is for the coffee at the scienceworks cafe. The coffee tastes burnt and is overpriced (compared to its size).

Олеся Козлова

A very interesting and fun filled place to visit with your family, would need at least a good 3 hours to go through all the sections of this place. Please note that there are certain shows/activities at particular times, so plan your visit time ahead.

Cate Parsons

Interesting and unique. Never been anywhere like it before. Young kids enjoy it greatly. The Lightning Room is the highlight.

Jack Shennan

After being stranded by the last minute cancellation of the grand prix, we needed to find ways to keep the kids entertained. The location is in an industrial wasteland easy to get to by train. It reminded me of my pilgrimage to the Miralles Igualada Cemetery but it was a much shorter walk from Spotswood station. The staff are great, kids love it and the planet - arium is a highlight, actually the reason we went.

Peter Kontogeorgis

The Scienceworks museum was pretty good, but I must admit to being a little underwhelmed. The public bubble show in the morning was not very interesting, and we could barely hear. The exhibitions were interesting and my children and I enjoyed them, but I was expecting something more like Canberra's Questacon...but it isn't as good. The cafe and food places are very expensive, so perhaps bring your own food to eat outside at the playground, like we did. There is long parking at an affordable price.

J Restrepo

Local educational thing. Spent a few minutes walking around the pump house then left. Cafe served fried food. Gift shop had some interesting stuff. Found $2 in the grass bit in the middle. Probably more aimed at the school market or enthusiast.

Kat Lodder

It is definitely enjoyable the first time you go there as a child but after that i wouldnt see a point wasting money

Annette Gemperle

Has not changed in the last 15 years since I last went. The planetarium tends to show there bad shows over the good shows not giving options or letting you know before purchase.

Liberty Overton

Excellent experience for my kids, really engaging for them to explore and learn, lots of activities to participate into, fantastic facilities. The fact that the site covers for all kids ages is a really good point for us as we have kids of various ages. Active participation of my kids is a main point, allowing them to learn while doing something, not just watching. There are several options to explore and see. Kids love the experience when we go do Scienceworks.

Adrian Trimarchi

Great experiences for the future tech, my daughter and I enjoy it so much! Lot of things to do, we stay half day ????

Free for kids and concession holders, free parking just beyond paid parking ... Lots of fun, informative and interactive activities for all ages. Additional paid elements such as planetarium, lightening show. Spent around 2 1/2 hrs there with ten year old. Wouldn't really want repeat visits unless New activities were available.

Rhiley

I came here years ago and it was great! It hadn't changed. I Remember some of the same exhibits... It's still fun, but it needs an update. I didn't see the planetarium or the lightning show, they'd probably bump up the score.

Miss Tsuukura

We had so much fun exploring here! The exhibits are colourful and interesting and well presented for a huge range of age groups. The staff were all lovely and engaged with their jobs. Some cool tours - wish I'd taken advantage of the off display tour!

We always enjoy going to scienceworks it never disappoints.

Science works is amazing. I take my grandkids, 3YO Alex and 8YO Joanna, often.

Abraham Stephen

Number one choice for so many children. I take my friends kids and neighborhood kids. I remember enjoying it so much myself as a child. I still enjoy the holiday activities.

Auden Laurance

This was so good we spent nearly the whole day there - only left because it was closing time. Loads of interactive displays which were even fun for adults, and the planetarium was spectacular! Only negative is you pretty much have to pay extra for additional exhibits if you want it to be a day affair.

Anastasia Marin

Great visitor attraction ????

Kellie Scott

Great place for Kidz. My 16 month old baby enjoyed Ground Up section so much. Cafe is not so good though.

Clinton Merritt

Great place for young and old to enjoy. It gets busy, but there are always quiet spaces you can find to unwind. Get the membership option if you live nearby - skips queues and know that you have a great option for hot or rainy days.

John Bugeja

So much fun!! The Air Playground was the best! Money well spent as we spent the most time there flying the paper planes and experimenting with different equipment. Could easily spend a day there!

Richard Scott

Always a delightful adventure with the kids!

Tom Archer

Great place for everyone! Lots of activities and even has play area for toddlers and a fantastic outdoor area that I never knew existed! You can easily spend 3-4 hours here, a great fun day!

Belle

Every year it seems I wind up going to Scienceworks. It's a great place to visit if you have young children who love to explore. I recommend going on school holidays though, where it's a bit quieter without the numerous primary schools visiting each day.

A M

A good spread of various things to see and do, hands on activities and interactive displays.

fernando m

Went with my daughter and two grandkids (4 and7). Sadly some things were unavailable because of covid but still enough there to be worthwhile. Saw Tycho goes to the Moon at the planetarium- the presenter and movie were great. No surprise that gift shop items were very overpriced but food from the cafe was healthy, great quality and very reasonably priced. We had a lovely time!!

Zak H

Good for kids and adults or anyone wanting to learn and explore. Warning for those with sensory issues or taking someone with sensory issues, it's loud and crowded and noisy in almost every room (at least on school holidays) so noise cancelling headphones are suggested. The planetarium is relaxing and if you need to leave during any show you are welcome to do so but won't be able to come back in

Nolan Melhart

Some very interesting exhibits. But mostly aimed at school aged children. Not much there for adults. A lovely day out for families but won't occupy an adult for more than 20 minutes.

Rowan Wilde

If are very much interested in Space, Planets, Universe then this is a must place to Visit. Best place for kids to learn about various science factors. Foods are bit overpriced but a great place for Science Lovers.

Levy MJ

It was fun..... learned a lot...some of the exhibits were very childish though...and being a teenager...I ended up just standing there awkwardly and looking at my younger brother have fun... But there are some really cool stuff people just have to check out...love the little cafe there too

Melissa Bell

Such a fantastic and magical place. So much to see and do. The kids were asking me to take them back there again even before we'd left. 10/10

Peter Williams

Great place to bring your children for an outing

WenD Tan

I loved this place! It was awesome and so fun when I watched people race the only thing, I didn't like was having to wait for my turn. I also loved watching the dog in space movie!!!!! Okay have a good day now byeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ranil Sampathge

Haven't been here since I was a kid and now that I have a kid I am back and it is fantastic. So much for them to do and learn and play with. Really looking forward to spending a lot of time here over the coming years - having a museum pass makes it even more affordable too.

Pooja Elkunchwar

lots to do for kids and adults. definitely worth the money. downside: cafe food could be better and staff too.

Jocelyn Hunter

The museum offers a wide array of interactive exhibits. Information is presented in an interesting and fun way. Planitarium shows are highly recommended - an amazing experience. All in all, the museum is definitely worth visiting.

Robyn Palling

Great experience for all the family! Very good price for the entrance and if people with concession card,Free. The kids enjoyed every part for it. The play area for the kids very nice, very educational and recreational too. I would definitely recomend it!

Helen Kim

Experienced Scienceworks with our toddler, and overall a great experience with plenty to see and do. Great value too (especially for Museum members). Kids that are in school will get a lot more out of Scienceworks, yet there was a great Under 5s area (no additional ticket needed) with plenty of interactive activities. Some of the standard exhibitions could do with some updating as they've been around for 15+ years.

Matt Lee

Great for kids. Food is limited but nice for picnic with the family outside at the playground ????.

Rebecca Bailey

Our boys, 8 and almost 6, loved how involved they could get with just about everything. Planetarium show was great, as was the lighting show. Recommend getting there on opening to try a large number of exhibits before it gets busier.

Panagiota Psarianos

One of our favorite museums in Melbourne. The hands on activities are perfect for kids. This museum keeps the kids interested and active in learning about science. Our favorites were the futuristic car design and the racing/biking stations. The presentations are well done and keep the kids attention with interesting topics and experiences.

Salman Malik

If you want to spark a love of science in your kids (or satisfy the science obsessed kid) then Scienceworks is definitely the place for you. Heck even us big kids have lots of fun and food for thought at this multimedia venue where interaction is everywhere. Activities and information to get you to have fun but also get you thinking!

Ryan Van Laar

An exciting place for adults & kids alike! The planetarium show was amazing abd the best part was looking ay the skies and seeing Saturn and Jupiter so close together, when we visited. My 7yr daughter's already listed every show sge wants to see from their schedule and has been imploring us to take her back soon...

Jennie Huxley

Absolutely awesome experience learning about the stars above

smash bash

Great for preschool kids too. My 4yo loved the lightening room. They have a half decent Cafe, outdoor playground, heaps of stuff to see and do inside and you can get there via boat from bay and river cruises or the other mob. Cheap fun day

Hansraj B.

Great place to take the kids and learn new facts. Really enjoyed the interactive nature of the exhibitions. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The only bad point of the experience is unsupervised children pushing past and being generally rude

An amazing place to take kids of all ages. The lightning show is a must see experience for all ages. Great day out with the family with lots of activities for all ages!

Alvin Turija

Went here when I was a kid and loved it. We are due tom go back and see what’s changed from when I used to go. Always loved the little gadgets and science experiments you could play with when there. There used to be an outside spot as well where you could play with i think it was water experiments and native living, etc.. Will be interesting to see what’s new

Lily So

Great day out. Huge science centre, probably more than you can cover in a single outing. Live shows are great, with lots of call ups for kids in the audience to get involved. Massive outdoor area with play equipment and the heritage pump station is nicely preserved.

Egi Ryan Aldino

Absolute waste of a journey. Exhibits lacked any real interest or detail and felt very old. The venue was very small. Planetarium and lightning shows were sold out disappointingly. Whilst I can see entertainment for very young children; nothing to engage parents / adults or warrant a return journey. Overall I felt the ticket price was too expensive for what you got; considering add on charges for shows.

Piotrek Szczepanski

Interactive fun for any age. We are missing Scienceworks! We have a family membership (which is a bargain - do it!) and love both the Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks. Scienceworks has an excellent program with installations regularly updated. The permanent exhibitions keep my toddler happy time and time again and the outdoor playgrounds are great too.

Mike E

Lovely place to spend time with your family

Dileepa R

Great experience for the whole family. It is our second time there. Interesting expositions, very educational. Kids are excited to learn more. Planetarium presentation was excellent. Not too long not too short - 9 years old kid can easily manage to sit through and being engaged. Well done. Thank you.

Luke M

Loved this place. So much to see and do, could easily spend a day here again next time we are in the area. My 10 year old son had a blast and even my babys were loving all to colours and sounds, except the really loud ones lol. Plenty of parking but we did get there close to opening time.

Marilyn Wijaya

No

Karmen Mezei

Great for kids young and old. Good activity area and outside grass area. Cafe selling hot and cold snacks. Excellent for kids slightly older too with the interactive areas

Jacquie Henning

A must go even if you do not have any children. The scientific content is presented with real-life effects, interactive trials and experiments. The planetarium is amazing, I have seen only one movie yet i will try others. Sports section is also great.

Tim Young

So many things to do for kids and adults. The planetarium shoe was great

Emma Potts

Great place for kids and adults, with a variety of activities and exhibits to interest anyone. We spent all afternoon here with our 7 and 3 year olds, and didn't even see all the main exhibits, let alone the extra cost ones. Of course a good part of our time was at the indoor and outdoor playgrounds, which were great. The sport-science exhibit also had lots of active games to play. Definitely worth a return visit!

G “Gflux25” Austin

I love this place! So many things to interact. Kids would love it and they will find new things at every visit. Go try things here, solve some curiosities from the books, and come back to verify what you have done researches. ++ there is a full day parking ticket which costs only 4 dollars:)

Alek Sandra

The displays havent changed since I visited last about 12 years ago. The lightning show was good but overall not as good for older kids or teens as a trip to the museum. be aware parking also costs money on top of entrance fees.

Rebecca Bone

A great day out with the kids. We rode our bikes there too! Interesting and educational as well as interactive. The planetarium screens about nauseating though. Loved the moon exhibit!

Trent Saunders

Scienceworks is a fun place to learn and discover new things. Scienceworks is the perfect place to take your kids in the school holidays. The renovation had greatly improved the venue with fascinating new exhibits for those of all ages - not to mention the great air conditioning. Free entry for concession holders makes this a worthwhile trip as well as the various shows which are put on.

Beth Wildgoose

A great science centre with a strong focus on keeping their messages up to date and relevant. Lovely grounds for a picnic lunch if the Sun is shining, and a huge indoor space dedicated to makerspaces, exhibition halls, and interactive experiments.

Nalinda Punchihewa

Good for kids Nothing much for adults Felt nausea after the planetarium starlight show

Adrienne Novira

Because of Covid, you must book before going. Extra shows and exhibitions have to be pre-booked too. Great place to learn about multiple tupes of science and see the technological discoveries made over the last decades. The planetarium is a nice way to learn about space/stars. The "Power, light, action" show in the lightening room will tell you all about energy. Car park in front of the museum is at cost, you may find some free spots on the street.

Mick Molloy

Scienceworks is a fantastic place to lose yourself in interactive science exhibitions. It helps if you have kids but anyone can have fun there. The planetarium is world-class. It's a hop, skip and a jump from Spotswood train station.

S Thomas

If you get the train, the walk here feels a little bit like youve gone the wrong way, a sign or two might be reassuring. The pump works part of the museum feels a bit of a missed opportunity with a …

Troy D

Very informative and knowledgable place. Great place for science lovers

Pascale Jacq

This is a amazing, scientific, educational place for everyone small kids, interested teenagers or even adults. It is so big and has such a wide selection of activities you could not fit in all the excitement in one day. It is not only very fun like the wheelchair race and designing cars but also extremely educational like learning about the environment, cars, sport history, trains and of course the amazing planetarium which is constantly changing its amazing shows. With 2 storys of activities and even a outdoor playground, lightning room, trains and more this is the ultimate scientific adventure everyone should experience from a massive family to a alone visiting tourist. With scienceworks constantly changing and becoming better with new attractions it never gets old. I recommend this to all and encourage you to go on a massive, awesome adventure.

Dean Pethebridge

Very interesting place..lot of things to explore..well planned..nearly maintained..attended lighting show and moon base show both are amazing..kids enjoy a lot and ..all ages can enjoy...I like the design next gen cars..took membership which gives free entry to all museums amazing offer..

Cain

Great place to take the kids, cheap as chips to get in! Recommend seeing one of the shows!

Spider Logistics

Love the planetarium. Great experience! The show was only 30-45mins but was really nice. Saw the Black hole series.

Anthea Duong

This is such an interactive, interesting and knowledgeable experience for young minds. The shows are well explained and the effects used to encourage kids are really engaging. The staff are friendly. Even parents can have a great time here. There's something for all ages.

Tim Hall

Very very interesting place kind of activity, music, fun, food worth visit and located near williams town....loved that place also this place been used in Mad Max 1 as well...

AJ Atalatti

Absolutely amazing place that presents history, science and technology in a very entertaining and interactive manner for all ages. The exhibits change regularly and there is always something new to see and experience. My kids love this place, I love this place, it's great fun and a very educational day out. And if you have a Health Care Care then entry is FREE.

Jacinth Ho

Fun and informative for all ages, staff seem knowledgable as well as friendly and approachable. Keep up the good work.

Ray Law

Nice place for kids but they could be clearer about the schedule. It's a small museum but has some good exhibitions. I got there for an advertised event but turned out it was only happening once a day for 10mins and I had missed that days show. Obviously we were disappointed and the help desk wasn't very helpful, they just shrugged their shoulders. So call in advance and check the timings.

Tom Elliott

A museum of very different kind, emphasising on implementation of many scientific concepts and evolution through easy display. My kids love it and seems like every other kids did the same. Added bonus was the planetarium with a great show on Universe. There are 3 different kinds of show depending on the time of the day you visit. Highly recommended for kids and adults likewise.

PETER NAD

Great facility with so many fantastic exhibits, however, a bitter taste left by the cafe! Terrible food and some what unpleasant cafe staff. It doesn't take much to put on some half decent options, especially with a full kitchen facility at your disposal. Who ever runs the cafe needs to be replaced.

Alexander Lindgren

I took my kids, 3 and 2 here recently and they loved it. They especially enjoyed the upstairs play area with all of the hands on activities. One small issue is the amount of primary school age children that were in attendance without enough supervision. Unfortunately my children were unable to experience any of the displays.

Tim Robinson

Interesting, educational and fun experience for kids (of all ages). Exhibitions ranging from the history of technology, fitness, astronomy and more. Extra presentations include the lightning room (added ticket price), planetarium (extra ticket price) and, for a limited time, the future of robotics (also additional ticket price). With many playgrounds and a café, ScienceWorks is more directed for families and children.

Cammie Li

Great science museum - lots of informative fun, mostly geared towards primary-school aged children (with fun for younger ones as well).

Alice Wilkin

Planetarium and lightening show well worth additional expense. So much to do and the fitness questionnaire and testing was great fun. Perfect on a hot day in summer holidays but also in rainy weather! Parking easy and cheap.

Gareth Simpson

A great place to learn all about science from technology, outer space to sports. Recommended for kids at an affordable entrance fee.

Ruby DHG

Have been here a few times but the last time I went was a couple years ago. It's a good place to go with your children on the school holidays.

Donmar65

It's a good place for kids below 12 to explore the past, present and future in technology. You can spend around 6 hours there. My daughter loved the dome theatre the most.

Alex Smethurst

Weekday

Abeer AL Maawali

More than me, the kids liked it very much. Lots of exhibits with and good information on each with historic breakthrough events and timelines presented in various forms, from posters to audio visuals to interactive displays. There's a build and play area for younger kids to keep them engaged. There's an outdoor play area with some interesting vehicles and other scientific exhibits too. All in all, its educational. Worth a trip with the kids, or just by oneself in order to learn about basic inventions and their evolution up to the present day.

Andrew Roma

Plenty of things to keep the kids entertained. The planetarium was a nice experience although the Tycho to the Moon short film was very outdated and bored my 3 year old.

Iain Milne

Not bad and reasonably up to date too, good for engaging kids with science and knowledge. A bit smaller than anybody in our group expected. Magnificent steam pumping engine though, I would go back just to see that again.

JT

Always a good place to go with kids. However really hope it could be bigger and brighter. It’s so dark inside, not good for safety.

Marcelo Ferraris

Good place for the kids to interact with new and even old technology. Would love them to renovate their exhibitions more often but I understand funding sometimes is scarce. Kids from toddlers to 12 years old can enjoy a fantastic experience at science works. I do enjoy it too!

Graham Sutherland

A great place for some fun packed fun and learning experience with the family who has little kids to school age. Love the fact that this place is great for adults too- we can all learn a thing or two here, so not only it's suitable for children but adults who has a love for learning will love this place. Love taking the kids here on weekends and especially during school holidays as they have free shows that's quite intriguing and educational. There's a cafe, 2 outdoor playgrounds, free historic tour, a souvenir shop etc... If you would like to explore the whole place, my advice is to come early. A must visit place when around this area. It is also near to Williamstown beach. Has plenty of free parking nearby. Booking online to avoid long lines as the many times I went there's always a long cue of people. Awesome place.

adam

Front desk are amazing, kids had a great time. ***food shop - TERRIBLE and RUDE*** They get upset if you ask any questions about what’s in the food and if you don’t want to pay tap. Over all an amazing place for the kids. Two thumbs up to the people at the front desk.

David Benton

It’s amazing time to see the oldest computer in the world and the technology developing in various aspect of life at Melbourne Australia.

Brett Errington (MrBretticus)

An amazing place to go and learn some really awesome stuff about science and technology - for children and adults alike!

Paul Veltman

I was lucky enough to catch the amazing Museum of the Moon exhibition here. The permanent exhibitions are great fun for kids and kids at heart - interactive, informative, and educational. I also caught a show in the Planetarium - this is a fun way to learn about space - as long as you've had a strong dose of coffee immediately beforehand!

Madiha Zaidi

Fun day out. Though the experience is somewhat geared towards families with kids, we went as two adults and still had a great time. Some activities were more adult-appropriate (e.g. the pumping station tour, static displays and the planetarium) whilst others were definitely more for kids so beware what you book if there are no kids in your party. Best enjoyed by getting into the spirit and giving all the interactive displays a go! Would come back again!

sathya kola

Great place, kids love this place. You need to pay additional for some exhibitions-this is something I don't like. There are free shows as well, you can easy spend more than half day here.

Georgia W

My girls (3 and 5) loved the planetarium especially the movie - Star System Odyssey ( though some bits made me a little queasy)

NADIA ZEFANYA

Great place. Kids must be enjoy it

Matthew Chambers

Always love coming to scienceworks. Great for the kids to have sensory play and for older kids to learn. Even adults can learn and have fun. School holidays can get very crowded so I recommend week days and come early as there is always a line for entering.

T_m my

Nice place to spend time with kids on school holidays.

Cleve Stephens

The kids love this place. This time we did the lightning display also and the new Tycho goes to Mars show which they both loved. Museum could be improved by having some rotation of their 'standard' displays - not an issue if you are only visiting once or twice, but for annual pass holders like ourselves it becomes noticeable.

Hailey Peterson

Friendly staff, heaps of interactions for kids and adults

Brett Wooderson

Great place for kids to learn about various science ideas. Exhibits aren't changed very often though so it is a bit "one and done."

Danna and Diane Vlogs

Excellent place for toddlers and it's not too busy like Melbourne Museum. The little kid's day in is spectacular!!! One of our favourite things to do in Melbourne.

Bex Olly Thompson

Love this place. Good for kids. Though there is not much to see.

Divyam Bansal

Part of the Museums Victoria network, Scienceworks is a great place for the kids to come for some educational play. Am a fan of the space section, but there's also a large sports science section with lots of hands-on learning. Plenty to keep them engaged for the afternoon. Also thoroughly enjoyed the Air Playground exhibition they currently have on, which is an additional cost to the main museum.

Ravi Kanth Nishtala

As we were in lockdown, We took our daughter on her 6th birthday. She loved it and didn't wanna go home. Will be back.

zara l

attended the valentine's planetarium night, it was charming and entertaining. they put a lot of effort in to make it special. it was my partner and i's anniversary too so a very memorable night of nostalgia (partner and i grew up visiting scienceworks as youngsters) and beauty with a viewing of melbourne's night sky through their awesome technology. thank you to the staff, we will be back for your friday night show!

sahrum Beru

Interesting science and tech museum of Victoria. With lots of interactive exhibits for children. Also temporary exhibitions and planetary.

Jeremy Lee

Great place to visit with the family. Plenty of things to see and learn about for all ages.

R Harrison

Its Science Works and has so many great activities for the kids. Educational activities too

Natasha Dissanayake

A good afternoon for learning activities

Steven Main

A brilliant day out for young kids with loads of interactive activities. It’s not the most modern space and some of the exhibits could do with updating, but nevertheless a great day out - kept my boys entertained for hours!

Tim Warren

Always a fantastic place to take the kids. The lightning show was absolutely fantastic and the immersive area upstairs phenomenal. Lost a star as the Planetarium show Ticket to the Universe was an absolute snooze session. The speaker spoke so softly it felt like we were at a meditation retreat. It lacked any enthusiasm or charisma and not worth the ticket.

JustFrxya

While I do enjoy going there with the family but it would be nice to see new attractions and so on. Some of the things have been there for years and I mean years. The lighting room is fantastic, but the pump station on my recent visit, smelt so bad. I would also recommend they have more outside activities. There is a large field but limited play equipment.

Luke Clark

The place it self was awsome but we only stayed for about 30ins due to an older man pulling he's facemask down and squeezing on things and then seen spitting on them

Kevin Li

Great for family especially kids between 8-12

Richard Khaw

My kids love this place!

David Orliasnky

Good family place with ample parking and reasonable entry fee. Though not much to do for teens. Otherwise you should at least keep four hours in hand to visit and finish all activities. Visit to Planetarium costs extra but it's worth the money.

Craig Monck

Fantastic place to visit. So many fun, exciting and interactive things to do. I took 2 teenaged boys to visit during their school holiday and they loved it. It can be difficult to get kids that age (14yo &15yo) to even be interested in doing things that don't revolve around gaming and computer screens. Scienceworks does have a lot of screen and technology but they are learning the whole time. Even I am learning and experiencing new things here. I couldn't recommend this place more. Especially for those on budgets looking for something to do. I had the 2 kids and myself on concession which meant the total entry cost for the day was $0.00!! Awesome right! You simply can not go wrong taking a day to visit this place with the kids or even on your own/with a partner as an adult. This place is AMAZING! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

neil henry

A beautiful museum with lot of interesting stuffs to know..

Tim Wills

A great day out with the kids... Lots of fun things to see and touch and learn about.... I did prefer the original upstairs kids area, but it is still really good.

Alessandro Vascotto

The activities and equipment are great. Great place for the kids and a large variety of equipment. But the food was really terrible and overpriced. I ask for a loaded fries and the lady said it would be 5 minutes then after 10 minutes the chef said they didnt have any loaded fries and that they didnt communicate properly. I decided to get the tomato and cheese pizza but the bread and cheese was stuck to the box. It was honestly the worse pizza i had in my life. My 5 year old son could make better food. Also very expensive and over priced. Would definately suggest eating prior or bringing a packed lunch. Just pack it on your bag before you enter. If they see you with food or coffee they wont let you in.

Bee McCurry

A splendid time awaits at Scienceworks.. The simplicity of explaining the information, coupled with the presentation helps the little ones learn in an exciting manner.

Maryleen V

My 4 year old loved the new build it up interactive exhibition. Lots of various activities that promote learning and teamwork. Lightning exhibition was brilliant, presenter was clear and entertaining. My son was hanging on every word. Just make sure your child can cover their ears for the Tesla coil!

Claire Bansagi

Incredible showing of the Pink Floyd animation!

Trevor Parry

Really enjoyed this Museum. The exhibits are fun, interactive and informative for any curious minds - definitely enjoyable for both young and old.

Andrea Lopez

Excellent for all ages. They have gorgeous educational and fun movies to watch in the star dome. Lightning room is good for ages 4+ they have other events happening that cater to different age groups and the place is a full on hands in learning experience.

Jessica Alice Payne

How do you make science cool again? By throwing a dance party. Chuck in some djs, drinks and colourful visuals and ...eureka!!

Shai Israel

I found science works great. A lot of work and planning must go into their exhibits. I’ve been there twice in the past and this still felt like a great experience. The new airplay exhibit was really awesome and catered to a massive range of ages. I was having as much fun as my 3 year old easily. The place is always so clean. My daughter ran into one of the exhibits while she had food and the staff member was so calm and friendly in approaching her and myself about it, so great. Even my 6month old had a great time with some things in the toddler exhibit. Lightning show was really engaging an fun, well presented by the male presenter.

Panzerfaust

Great place to take the kids during school holidays- plenty of things for them to see and interact with

Your Australian Property

First time visiting. It was one of our plans while visiting Melbourne. Both my kids 14 and 10 enjoyed the place. I enjoyed it as well. A good place to have both educational input and fun.

Daniel Fisher

I cannot say enough good things about Scienceworks! Went with my 12 year old brother and my dad, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. There are so many cool interactive activities here, including an entire section on sports, and your own abilities as a person! We all had so much fun running around, eagerly checking out each activity. Lots of fun for the whole family. It was super affordable as well, with children and students getting in for free, and adults only $15! There are a couple paid activities, but those are also inexpensive, below $10 mostly.

Anna Ringelstein

Always a great place to visit. Moon looks amazing, VR experience was spectacular.

Gena Gialamas

Generally a favourite of mine and my kids, hands on learning and learning through play, many exhibits to see in the basic general entry package however the lightning room and other special exhibits are extra $ and only run at certain times so plan ahead of there is something in particular you want to see.

Richard Phillips

A great place for such a wonderful collection of science history and display items with science principles. Ticket price is very reasonable. Nicely maintained display items. Really good for all ages who love science from age 0 to xxx. The car parking is not sufficient during peak times. Also the cafe is not good either. If you visit with kids, packup some items for lunch and snacks. Cafe items are overpriced.

Roza Janowska

It's a great time for the family.

Stephen James Black

Apart from a few interactive displays which weren't functioning, my teenage daughter and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Lots of very interesting installations and the two shows we caught (Planetarium and Lightning Room) were very well hosted by charismatic presenters. A great way to spend an afternoon or day in Melbourne.

Ellie Williams

Friendly staff and facilities are well looked after. Scienceworks is fun for the younger audience around 5 years old but not much for the adults. The planetarium presentation was great but again was aimed at children and on this occasion was disappointing with another 3d animated cartoon about saving the planet. I fell asleep and others were snoring. The journey from the East side of Melbourne didn't justify the experience for me but my son love it so perhaps it was worth it.

Melih KÜÇÜKERDÖNMEZ

Went here for the first time since i was 11 going on school trips. The girlfriend took me with her Mum, and for 3 adults at a place that was full of kids on an excursion, we had a blast. Loved the fitness challenges, the exhibits and especially the Moon VR experience. Zero compaints of our time there. 10/10 would come again.

Dayan Tatlock

Interesting spot for children and adults alike. The lightning room and the planetarium were good experiences.

Justine Edward

Wonderful place to learn about science and the pressing issues of the future! Would highly recommend for all ages.

Jason Telford

Awesome space for kids and adults, loved the planetarium

Nikolas Tol

Good selection of activities and exhibits to engage the kids. Top floor is fab for under 5yr olds but gets very busy. Its a bit of a mission on public transport if you are with very young children and dont have the buggy -prob best to drive. Take a pack lunch food is overpriced and selection isnt amazing. Staff are helpful.

Fiona Carey

Went to mad Max 40th anniversary celebration, enjoyed the night

Andy SARK

Great informative place especially for young kids, with good scope of different activities. Expect lots of questions about stuff from young minds. Staff are always considerate, helpful and present well. Parking available literally right outside the door. Have been back often as they have something different most of the time.

Madhubanti Chakraborty

Great place for your budding engineer or scientist. This place will keep the kids busy for hours. With lots of interactive and educational activities. The best thing is kids and students are free, though there are some paid attractions inside (like the i-max style theatre).

rebecca purdon

Even with the new space/future content they put in, the place is really dated. The whole area in front of the planetarium is the same food/sport section that had been there from the start. Thankfully admission is only $15 per adult. Place needs an overhaul.

Vera Liem

Best experience for kids, lots to play with, fun time Sky show (fascinating views) Overall anyone who lives in Melbourne must visit this place Recommended to all

Radian Tv

It was nice and fun but we can only enter at 2:00 pm wh8ch gives us only 2 and a half hour to enjoy the museum which is not enough time and not worth the money paid for.

Trevin Rambukpotha

Take your own lunch!! Food was completely overpriced and not that nice at all. Coffees where pretty good. We went with our 10 month old and she loved it! The baby/young children section was fantastic and there was definitely something there for all ages. Will definitely be going back, entry price was reasonable, have to go early to get a decent park too. Next time we will definitely be packing a lunch as it was nice to sit out on the grass.

A J

One of the favourite museums of my kids is Scienceworks. Trips to the museum are always educational and fun. Among Scienceworks activities, the Melbourne Planetarium is the part people most look forward to. As well as travelling to the outer edge of the universe and back, the presentation also includes a look at the night sky. Discover which planets, stars and constellations are easily seen from a Melbourne backyard and how our view of the sky changes, night by night.

Elena Fox

It was a fun day out with the kids, lots to look at and do, we were there for a good 4.5 hrs and didn't feel rushed. We didn't read all the info on everything as my kids are fairly young so they were more into playing with things than reading and learning in depth about things, was a very enjoyable day!

Aviary UnCaged

A cool place to visit for children and adults alike. Lots of hands on exhibits to learn about science things in a fun way. The lightning generator is a highlight. Can be a bit expensive if buying food for a few people so I would advise a packed lunch.

Naiyer Alidabbaghi

Great experience for family, adults and children. You can even design postcard and send to friends or yourself.

Erin McMahon

Great place to take the kids out. We spent 3 hours there including seeing the lightning show. We could have spent another hour there easy. The down side is the price of the food that was a joke.

Lalla Stewart

Extremely cool area! Recommend for kids. Great prices! At 15 dollars an adult and free for kids.

Rachel Bloem

An absolute fun place for kids.

Wally Chiang

Omg.. I haven't been for 4 years!? Time to get my geek on.. If you haven't taken your kids, you're not a good parent.. no excuses. If you have a concession card it's free, which is a fantastic and rare offer these days. Always something new, and old favourites to revisit, my kids would go every day if I took them.. Plenty of parking, not bad cafe , although it's not cheap and plenty of people take their own, which is fine.. scram, get to it!!

Juliana Calvache

Wait time

Chandni

Weekend

Peta Rodriguez

We have been a few times now!! Scienceworks is a great place for people of all ages, with a mixture of interactive things for everyone to enjoy! There are also free tours of the Spotswood Pumping station that explains the history of the area! Ron was amazing!

KARUNA関赐興

Great place for kids, lots of interactive stuff and information. The sports science exhibition was my favourite.

Bhanu Prakash

I visited with my 3 year old and 7 year old. There was more than enough to interest them and presented in a manner for the 7 year old to understand. Some exhibits were for older kids or adults only too. Great outdoor area to relax too and an amazing indoor play area for younger children. The planetarium was slightly boring but still worth it

Chloe Perry

Great place for kids and adults. Very educational and lots to see and touch. We all loved it! The cafeteria really should improve their quality of food. Its basic, nothing special and overpriced. For a big attraction like this you would expect better quality food. The outdoor area is great to take a break and have lunch while the kids play. Will return when kids are older.

natasja etsebeth

A good spread of various things to see and do, hands on activities and interactive displays.

Suraya Hanim

Awesome experience... A lot to do and see for the kids and adults.. Specially the sports section was really interactive.. The outside playareas and the old pumping station are good as well. Overall a day very well spent...you can visit the williamstown esplanade after this for food with heaps of options available with exquisite views of the bay

Parthan SR

Good place for kids to visit once in awhile.

Harry D

Amazing place with cheap tickets, lots of hands on stuff for kids to play and work with. Gets busier on school holidays and parking can be difficult. Lots of sensory and visionary activities to keep kids to adults engaged. Dedicated play area for the little one is a great touch. Moon is amazing see it to believe it and also sports area is great for kids to run and kick.

kanu priya Jain

A great place for kids to learn and enjoy... Their Lightning Room and Planetarium are both worth visiting. Scienceworks does get very busy on weekends so do go early in the day. There's a cafe and plenty of room outside in the courtyard for those wanting lunch or a picnic - and there's also a couple of outdoor playgrounds for the kids in the internal courtyard area.

Casey Whitelaw

There are collections of little interactive things, but nothing is that much exciting or engaging, and again there are always queues, and you will always find yourself waiting for your turn.

Maeyean Foo

Decent. The Cafe is pretty crude and overpriced. Best go to the bakery or cafe on the road prior to carpark. Apparently free for Healthcare card holders

Gurpreet S

Better for kids that are older than 9 or right into science. A bit dated but easy enough to kill a couple of hours if looking for something to do.

Tibor Congo

Like a museum for kids. Lots of very interactive things to look at covering lots of different science topics. Note it's very small and is incredibly crowded on weekends and school holidays.

Shamz R

Took my 3 year old and six month old and had a great time. The little kids room is fantastic, would love a wall of light up switches in our house! And we enjoyed the new perception area upstairs. If you can, wear your little one in a carrier to avoid pushing a pram around. Take your own good to save a bit of moola. The outside area is great on a sunny day.

Khalid Ali

Great place.Very hands on - plenty of spaces to explore and be adventurous. Best to get there about 9:45am to avoid waiting in queue, especially in school holidays. We'll be back! We have more sections to explore.

Jennylyn Sanchez (Jenes)

I came here on camp last year and ages ago on another camp all I can say it's a great place to learn a thing or two and great for people with young children to do some hands on learning here. Has a great variety of options at the gift shop but beware of you are coming on a weekday prepare for thousands of kids

Udara Edirisinghe

All the free activities were reasonably entertaining, however don't pay for the extra activities. Definitely not worth it.

Skinsmith Music

Don't go there unless you want to surrounded by 50 million kids. It would be good but you can't look at anything because of all the kids. Adults are interested in science too. You need a day a week to just be able to go through without kids.

Tiffani Worthley

Love bringing my kids here. So much to see and learn about. Great activities to keep the kids mind stimulated. Worth the money and will definitely spend a good 2 hours or more here. Came here in primary school now I got to bring my kids here aswell to experience scienceworks.

Simon Ler

I'm reviewing purely as a parent who's taken a small child to check out Scienceworks. The kids section is great for toddlers to explore. Heaps of sensory excitement for the little ones to experience. Building, lights, wind and air, gravity and more. We went on a weekend and it was a little manic though. There were kids absolutely everywhere! Heaps of outdoors space for the kids to run around and burn off some energy before the drive home. Outdoor playgrounds and grassy areas. Parking is available on the Paystay app which is really convenient and saves you trekking through the traffic to try and find the pay station. Food, as with all of these types of places is overpriced and generally very average. Do yourself a favour and bring a packed lunch and snacks. You'll save yourself a fortune. Price of admission felt a little high, but if you've got a museum membership then you'll get great value over the course of a year as long as you get there a few times.

Jodi Small

Not sure

Tracey Nadine

There are plenty of interactive educational thing going on there. It feels more like a sciency playground with some knowledge thrown at you here and there. The indoor playground is one of a kind and fits many ages. Available a small area to accommodate babies who can't walk yet within the indoor playground. Decent changing room and nursing rooms. Picnic area available outdoor, and 2 separate playground with different themes. Definitely recommend families with children of all age.

Sami M

My brother took my 2 year old niece, and I took my 17 year old daughter here; I think my brother and daughter had more fun out of everyone. It is catered to everyone, of all ages, from young to old. You should set aside a good part of your day to be able to explore the entire place at your leisure. We will be back for sure.

Cindy C Rahardjo

Really a good place for education. Looking forward to adding more exhibition or group activities. Good for kids 5 above,

ken sampson

Kids always enjoy and learn. worth a visit.

Leebsterftw

Yes

Andrew Khassapov

One of must visits in Melbourne. This places allows us to experience various childhood memories of studying rocks, dinosaurs while children will playfully learn the concepts. One day might not be sufficient if you are a hard core Explorer.

Han Li

Great place to take the kids, free parking if you don't mind a short walk, or ticket parking just outside for three dollars or so. Lots of things inside for the kids to do. Decent cafe inside, plus also a large grass area where you can setup a picnic.

De Anarky

It's a great place to hang out and chill with your friends while learning a whole lot about random things. It's free entry. Great for kids especially. Problem is that it's very limited in what you can see unless you pay for all the tours, we spent about an hour and 15 minutes and saw everything they had. If we paid for the tours we would have had more fun. Regardless, check this place out with the kids.

John Marcou

Attractions can be made better. Few counters had some wonderful intuitive displays but things can be made more innovative and fun for kids to get engaged and absorbed thoroughly with science mysteries.

Geoff Reader

Kids always love a trip to Scienceworks. Planetarium is a must.

Jeri-lee Denning

Amazing experience to generate curiousity about different scientific concepts for my 4 year old.

Aungshuman Barman

Amazing exhibits, but very expensive cafe :(

Cara Lauder

A great place to take the family. Always something new to see. Interactive displays are fantastic.

S C

Always a great day out, so much to see and the kids always have such a fun time. The history of the pumping station is very interesting and the old pumping machinery is awe inspiring.

Sharon Wright

Great place for kids the planetarium is good everything too cheap but I don't like the cafe because it's too expensive and the scienceworks shop it's ok and the lightning room well we're not going to talk about that now and and the exhibition so great to sports works think ahead ground up beyond and the pumping station is great it's a bit smelly but if he takes you back in time Scienceworks entrance is cheap to get in and for the other three museums Melbourne good place to take your kids and spend the day with your family it's going to be a really good one Scienceworks is located in Spotswood

Michael Morgan

They have many interactive exhibits and the planitarium is an experience I would definitely recommend. It took me on a journey that me questioning humanity at the end. Overall, a great day for the whole family ????

Donna Jackman

Dinosaurs show for the little ones was joyful and the exhibit was interesting

mick

Was there for only 2 hours due to Covid restrictions, which isn't worth it. Didn't get to see everything. Very entertaining for children but you really need the whole day to enjoy. The exhibits are interesting and really make children think! They close at 4pm which is ridiculous - should close at 5pm. Getting there is also very tricky!! Would return when covid situation normalises.

Amela Hadzic

Great place to visit for an hour or so, highly recommend buying the planetarium show ticket also and visiting upstairs for the waves exhibition. Can be busy during school holidays

Stacey Cook

Great for adults and kids. The displays were interesting and most were interactive. But the pump house was by far the best part, specifically the functioning steam engine. Well done for keeping that beast going after 120ish years! A packed lunch and free street parking makes for an economic day out.

Moana Lindsay

Awesome space for kids and adults, loved the planetarium

Jerry Sabastian

Took grandkids here - they had a special wind exhibition which they really enjoyed, particularly making the paper aeroplanes and seeing how far they could throw them. There is a lot to see here so give yourself a couple of hours.

Kawshick Md

Lovely place when I went to it. The experience was great. Sadly haven't been back to it since 2016. But from back then it was great!

Miracle angel

There's a Brickman Lego exhibition on at the moment. It's not huge but there's plenty of Lego to build with which keeps the children entertained. The exhibits are all very cool.

Randall Cashen

I think it is good for kids. However, there is not much food around. I want to go the planetarium though.

Kyle Barker

Great place for children for learning and fun, the shows are not really for smaller kids. Quite reasonable parking fee.

Duncan C

That's such a great place for tourists and children, because there's lots of creational and physical games to play, and great information about various things. For me, it's a bit boring, I don't like games, sports and technology so much, so this isn't my type of interest. I don’t really enjoy doesn't mean it's not so good. Actually, it's much better than any museum I've been to in Vietnam. And it's free for under 16!

Noni-Rose Buckman

We're members now because we love it so much.

Dez Zengin

Lots of interactive information for the kids. Though a part of the museum was inaccessible due to restrictions, it was still worth a trip. The planetarium show was fabulous.

jordan bradley

4 Star rating as for Adults. For kids 5 Stars. My partner and I went together and we were pretty entertained. Did the lightening show and planetarium. Planetarium was the highlight. Definitely alot of cool stuff to look at in the general exhibition and very interactive. I would recommend it for adults if you don't mind being around alot of school kids.

Jordan Lee

At the moment upstairs is being renovated for a new program. So everyone was crammed downstairs as not as spread out. The light show was great and we went at a good time when there was no crowd so we enjoyed the room as we pleased.

Nicole Akeroyd

Good for kids and different things to explore compared to Sydney and Perth

Pavel Verigin

Scienceworks has been upgraded a fair bit since I was a kid, but fear not - you can still race Cathy Freeman. Ideal for primary school kids it can be a very expensive day out with travel to the west side, add ons such as the planetarium (absolutely worth it), special exhibitions, general entry and lunch. However, there's a full day's entertainment to be had learning STEM skills and the recent upgrades appeal to.older children and teens too. I highly recommend going during term time if you can to avoid crowds, or if you don't have kids the adults only nights are the best option. Buy tickets in advance.

scott ellis

First time visiting with a young child and had a great experience. Lots to keep children of all ages interested and entertained. Will be coming back regularly.

Ashar Putra

Grat place to take the family

nakitathompson1990

Fun and interactive - and completely free for kids, concessions and seniors (and cheap for adults). There is so much to do here that you can't get it all done in one day! We visited the planetarium today, which let us in early (because I was in my wheelchair) and had plenty of space to park my chair and relax into their reclining chairs and see the whole film, then a fun stargazing experience. Was so proud to say I guessed each of the constellations (even Orion, which wasn't mentioned by David, our guide, when he showed us where to find the final planet visible tonight) because of the stargazing we did when I was younger with my dad, who was with us today! (Yeah, he even knew the emu! Which was fun to learn about - the first peoples' starmap.) What an amazing experience for my family (son, partner, my parents, my brother and his fiancé all together).

Addison Davis

I love taking my kids to scienceworks! There is so much to do and see, they are on the go the whole time. They younger ones love it, but the 12 year old, while she had fun and played with the little ones, wasn't really their target audience so got a little over it after a few hours. And parking there is easy and cheap!

Jess C

Fantastic fun for kids. We didn't want to leave, even after 3 hours!

Maxie Diamantopoulos

Not just for children, although there were lots there (school excursions) . Enjoyed the very interesting exibits

Yekaterina M

Good place for bright, young minds to explore, learn and play in

Kera Cachia

The new Ground up area is amazing. The new parents room was great to use for feeding my bub while my 2yr old also had something to play with and wasn't able to run away.

William Hutchinson

Been here many times as a kid and still as fun as an adult! Smaller than most science museums but love the interactive style of exhibitions. Planetarium is a favourite of mine!

Linda Clutterbuck

Great fun Despite it being busy you could easily move about and get to participate in everything. 2hrs was perfect to do ground floor with a 4yr old. My only complaint is that the toilets were disgusting. They are renovating however so hopefully they will improve on this.

Daggy Dad

took 4yr old kid and friend and watched Tycho to the Moon at the Planetarium. They loved it along wiyh the exhibition and especially the colour show.

Emily Luke

The price is reasonable but the extras seem expensive and book out quick. There are some new exhibits but majority is very outdated or not of a high quality. The layout is very scattered and paths very narrow in spots. Pushing a pram can be near impossible and is not a place to go for children under 4. There are no vending machines nor could I find a single water fountain. With so many people inside it gets extremely hot and clammy. We could only find 2 places to find a drink to cool and quench my families thrist. One being the cafeteria which after literally 20 minutes in line I was only half way to being served when all we needed was something, anything to drink. Ended up having to go to the other drink/cafe shipping crate store where the only cool drink were small coke bottles at $5 each. The outdoor grass area is large and nice to picnic so is great in that regard. But the crowded dated exhibits make it hard to enjoy or relax.

N YIN

Children's play space is brilliant. Kept our 2 kids under 5 entertained for over an hour.

Great family fun, the interactive activities were awesome, unfortunately the Robotics section was closed due to part of the air-conditioning falling from the ceiling, but we were offered vouchers for another visit. So much more to do than the last time we went. Highly recommend Scienceworks.

Samantha Atkins

Very nice place for a day out with kids. Ample parking, but its paid so park outside if you can. Many activities to do. Truly fun.

Nick Rowsell

Great place to visit when in Melbourne. There's not only heaps to see, there are a lot of interactive elements that encourage kids from all ages (also the little ones) to experience science is a great way! You can easily spend 2+ hours here.

Fun, entertaining and educational for both adults and children. Concession cards including university students get free general entry. Look ahead of time to find out about the tours and shows they have on offer. They have mentioned Mad Max day and May the 4th for Star Wars fans.

Karim George

Such an awesome place to visit. Full of fun and knowledge to kids and adults as well. The place is huge, be prepared for a day full of fun. Purchase your tickets to enter the museum and walk through the ground d and 1st floor, where you get to see different science evolution and development. Kids get to play different games and practice certain science ideas, which are so much fun. Entry to the planetarium to watch certain short educational movies, you need to buy special entry tickets for that, for each movie you would like to watch. You can't re enter, and you need to select the time you will enter as well. Build Robotics and coding workshop and other workshops need to be pre purchased well in advance. Outdoor area with on-site small Cafe, playgrounds and lots of fun. You can bring your own snacks. Two different Parking areas, one you need to pay and the.other is free. A highly recommended place if you haven't already been to. Have fun..

Most amazing day out you can ask for with so much to do see and learn. Parking at AMAZING prices and so very affordable. Can not wait to come back. Took my 4 children on my youngests birthday who is all things space obsessed. It was a surprise trip for him. That morning i told him i got him thr moon for his birthday. After arriving he was literally blown away by what was before him as we all were. The moon exhibit room far exceeded all expectations. Magical day and then some. Thank You

Manoj Menon

Great place to bring family. Can be a little crowded but that is testament to its quality. It has got a lot more interactive of late as well and this is great for the 4+ kids but still interactive enough for the 2+ crowd. Some exhibitions are aging now and need updating. The sport one is not a patch on MCG in terms of cleanliness and accuracy but still good.

Mark Finocchiaro

Disappointed the upstairs kids section is gone, especially the plau cafe, digger, pulleys and sounds area. Plus the window sections are now empty and were great for explaining the weather etc. The new area downstairs is okay but it's quite dark and just not the same

Scotty Adams

Love the place... unfortunately the movie shown on the Planetarium titled "Tilt" was not good but the Lightning Room was really really good with an awesome host

Deirdre McIntyre

Nice place to bring your kids, but there are things for adults to bring out their inner child out too.. There is an robotics exhibition on these days..

Alex

It is such an educative place to spend weekends for family with young kids. With lots of things to see with interactive activity that involves parents and children. Students are free, so don't forget to bring your student card along.

James Heathcote

Its ok. It used to only have things for younger children, which is fun but not really encouraging actual science. Recently they have added more to there exhibition with an exhibition about 'Light and Energy' and a Boeing exhibition 'Above and Beyond', which was amazing. It is set in an industrial location (behind the West Gate Bridge) but it isn't too noisy. It's also interesting to explore the old pumping station behind the main building. It's near a train station so not to hard to get to, but if travelling by car you need to drive over the West Gate which sometimes is congested. Overall, 4/5

Elizabeth Hornby

Really entertaining and interactive venue for the whole family. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, although the presentations were targeted at primary school levels they were informative and enjoyable for much older guests as well. Very wide variety of exhibits including the old pumping station, the planetarium, sporting and futuristic interactive displays. Also very good value, despite paying for individual attractions beyond the basic entry fee it was still a cheap day out.

Chie Soma

Too many interactive displays down. In planetarium, they give out masks, and then no one wears them. Upstair exhibition was confusing and a waste of space, imo.

Liam Ferguson

Free entrance on Sunday with concession. Lovely place to bring the curious little ones. Only downside is there's not much great food option - cafe serves generic food.

Ratnasekhar Kondisetty

Great place to learn science. Amazing robots display. Kids love designing their own environmental-friendly cars and try many more activities. Worth to go there few times to see all. It's not easy to find a parking space in holidays though.

That guy

Great place to go for young and old. Lots to see, do and learn. Canteen prices not too badly priced. We paid that bit extra for the lightning room and the planetarium - both awesome and well worth it. My boys are 7yo & 3yo. We'll definitely come back again when they are a little older and there is more to discover and learn :)

Meagan Wheelahan

It's really busy during school holidays but worth the trip. My 7 year old son was at the right age to be asking questions and getting really involved in what was going on and I really enjoyed the experience too.

Santosh Iyer

Scienceworks is disappointing as an adult, it honestly doesn’t feel worth going to any of their new exhibits in the entire time I’ve lived in Melbourne. Great for the kids for the first time, but after that might be a bit boring.

Thai Lam

This is an amazing facility that’s good for kids from small to big, young to old, and for parents too. Plan on spending half a day here, see the lightning show and do the pumphouse …

Sarah Luo

Great kid's space, but some of the exhibits are a little dated.... also, there is not enough about biology - specifically diseases, viruses and medical resrarch. The space exploration exhibit has about ten years of info missing, from the early 2000 to now. The science of music could be expanded to include acoustics, possibly in the form of small "sound - rooms", to illustrate reverberation and insulation. However admission is cheap, and the kids still enjoyed it!

Mannat Sharma

Good for kids up to about 13. Planetarium usually great though this time 'Solar System Odyssey' gave me motion sickness! Watch Black Holes instead!

Gary Lin

Great venue. Perfect for kids of all ages. The highlight is the new toddler area that is great for crawlers up to kindy kids. It is also good as there are often school groups that can bowl through the smaller kids.

James O'Rafferty

absolutely fabulous. Something for all ages. Grandkids loved the interaction while the adults learnt so much. We were there from opening to closing but thought it was a couple of hours. Staff were knowledgable and helpful. parking was good. cafe a little expensive but have plenty of picnic spaces if you BYO.

Michael Lineham

Up to 10 min

Pieta Mackin

Outdated and with a very narrow age target. The food court is horrible. Some exhibits were not working. Pay for the extras or have a very boring time. The ticket alone isn't too expensive but if you start adding the extras it can gets too much.

Sharni Edwards

Lots of interesting stuff for children and adults. Went with my toddler and we had a great time exploring the exhibitions and museum grounds.

Kelly Eaton

A good place to go to with your kids on a rainy day in Melbourne. There is a lot of reading at the different stations so keep in mind that your kid should be able to read otherwise you’ll be reading. There is an area for kids under 5 as well. Lightning show and planetarium costs 8 AUD per person. Entrance to the Museum is free for kids and 15 AUD for adults.

Beckie Mitchell

Kids love it, although it has barely changed since I was a kid. You can still race Kathy Freeman and loose, the skeleton in the sky still rides his bike and the wheelchair race is still terrible! The new-ish (2018) section for kids is small, it has some foam blocks, Velcro blocks that fly in wind tunnels and a raised covered crawl-way. Free for students, kids and concession but $15 for adults.

Anna - Lee

Kids love this place. Lots to see and do for everyone. Big grass spaces outside to have a picnic or eat bought lunch from the cafe. Planetarium is fun and there is a lightening show here. Toilets are upstairs though and are quite small. As are the lifts which makes it difficult if you have a pram or wheelchair. During school holidays this place gets super busy.

Wilfredo Lacap

Love this place. Overseeding my expectation. Was thinking a boring place during school holiday. But it turned out very exciting one. Lots of information and mini figures to describe science. Warning: you ll spend more than 3 hrs inside facility for newcomers. Food is ok and cheaper compared to similar place but still it is dear for my pocket. Just purchased coffee and snack.

Matthew Lamp

fantastic place to be at for kids and adults. plenty to do and see. plenty of space outside to seat and relax while kids running around the playground area . only to watch out for is seagull which has sign saying no feed them which is understandable. beside that the light show was nice and very informative. will definitely return when feel like a buzz of fun.

SImba Khan

Good place to go during school break

Jessica Boyd

Interesting place to do a family visit. Informative for ages 5 and above.

willian cavallari

Scienceworks is a great place to go if you have kids. There is heaps of activities for the young and old. Amidst the fun interactive works, there is a background to keep the inquisitive parents mind awake. I loved the fact that upstairs where they had the exhibition on waves of sound and light. There were lots of interactive stuff with actual formulations and information that you would learn at university. The planetarium was amazing aswell. The show we saw was about the moon and it described the moon phases very well, better than I've seen any video or paper. The food was actually good and in a good price range, since it's the only place to eat for miles around we didn't think like that they capitalised on the lack of amenities and raised the prices, we were quite happy with the quality and price. One let down is the museum is quite small, but the admission fee reflects that at only $15, and kids enter free, which helps anyone's pockets.

ANGELA Pantelopoulos

Best entertainment in Melbourne with accessible displays. Anyone in wheelchairs can be part of this exhibition. Absolutely interactive and entertaining for every age group. The planetarium was the highlight for me. On top of that, all day cheap parking in their carpark.

Adam Hussain

Not a great experience for kids younger then 5

Stanley Banon

Very good science museum. I love the little kids day in special events held on the first Monday every month for kids between 0 to 5. It's a fun place to explore. The planetarium is amazing. The special zone for kids to play is interactive. Worth becoming a museum member.

Cherie Ridgway

I’ve always loved Scienceworks, growing up I went to it every school holidays even if it was the same exhibits. Took my mother and boyfriend (his first time) there this week and we had a great time, we especially enjoyed the VR as they both had never done it before. I don’t think I’ll ever be too old to go each year.

anipar78

Fabulous day out with the family. This place is full of wonderful facts and hands on experiences. Planetarium presentation on the day's night sky was a highlight. I highly recommend this family activity.

Pia Muirne

Awesome experience. It will definitely take 2 days to enjoy and understand all science items that are in showcase. No words to explain. This is not only for kids and this is for adults too. After visiting this place with kids, start discussing about the showcases that they did with kids. Finally Save EARTH.

Cave Blandon

Understandably due to covid a few activities were not in use. However, the current activities have really not changed in the last 8 years. I feel it could be improved greatly aesthetically as well as the activities they offer for children. A bit disappointing. We also attended the planetarium which was an excellent room, however the educational aspect (mini show) was very poorly written in my opinion. Needs improvement. Customer service was great. ????????

Emily Kepsner

The under 5 section is really good for young ones, can be rough if parents are not watching their kids however always fun, better to go with young ones during the week and not on school holidays or weekends as it's too busy. The rest of science works is great for older kids and a membership is good value for money.

Laura Ireland

No wait

valdin thompson

Highly recommended educational and interactive activity for the kids. Super fun science exhibitions PLUS 2 great outdoor playgrounds!

Mashrur Syed

My wife and I took our 3 Yo Grandson so entry was free but paid extra for Planetarium which was well worth it, but sadly the Lego exhibition was certainly not worth the extra. All interactive exhibits and enjoyed by all. Very educational and entertaining. The Cafe was disappointing with luke warm coffee. when I complained that the coffee was cold I was told no its not it is warm, of course everyone loves warm coffee on a cold day.

X Liang

Science works is a great place to bring kids. It is a very interesting place with lots of hands on stuff for the kids. There is a cafe here but is expensive so I would advise bringing your own lunch. I still would definitely recommend science works because it is a lot of fun and it is sutiable for a wide age range.

Matthew Sykes

Wonderful place for every age group in a family. So much to explore and learn for everyone. We love their special activity days. Its a great experience with interactive learning especially for young kids. I want them to add more halls focusing on magnet science and basic concepts relating to physics for growing kids. I want them to introduce a display on hazards and benefits of nuclear and atomic energy and especially destruction to environment as a result of wars going on in the world everywhere and it's atrocities to humankind

A P

This was my first visit to Scienceworks and I found it very good. There are a lot of interesting exhibits and all the children seemed to be enjoying it. Well worth a visit.

Duncan Roy

Perfect experience with kids to show them the science progress through the time. The moon exhibition is very interesting and it is a good chance to see the dark side. Furthermore prices of the tickets are reasonable.

Kelly Leong

Really great place to visit with a wee one or bigger kid. I went with my 10mo and she loved it. There is a purpose built area for young kids with lots of interactive bits to play with. There is a very good parents room next to this area. There is also an area currently showing that is apparently built for teenagers, called Beyond Perception, that my wee one really enjoyed. The exhibits are extremely visual and can be touched by wee ones. There were really neat written displays to go with the audio visual displays. They're made to look like white board and black board notes and sketches (some very elaborate). They're written by different experts about different topics, e.g. black holes, sound waves etc. Some just tidbits, some pretty decent explanations. School groups aren't allowed in this display, which also made it a nice chilled out area to be. There was a group of adults with cognitive disabilities there on the same day as me, and they also really seemed to enjoy the Beyond Perception exhibit, and the lack of kids. The exhibit is low lit, with mostly black walls. The area that all the school groups go in had lots of displays to play around with, and a really neat area where you could test your physical capabilities. The school kids were loving it. Still the occasional display that the little one enjoyed. It was really busy though (we were there on a weekday), so we just skimmed around that area really quickly. Overall really fun and we stayed for about two and a half hours.

well Nancy

Very entertaining. Well designed and very interactive. Educational without being boring. Lovely playground ,good demonstrations. There are not long waits for things. My kids loved it. Very good value.optional Light shows, lightning show, space shows. Cafe is nice.

Callum Shaw

I understand that this is a family "museum" but the kids ruin everthing for the adults. To bad because it could be really interesting if it wasn't for the kids pushing on every button they see. The planetarium presentation was nice and informative. Would recommend to go on a school day, when there are less kids around for a informative and interesting afternoon.

David Kenvyn

Great place for kids to play and learn. Indoor and outdoor areas. Enjoyed the fun and informative Planetarium also

Nic Bruce

Kids enjoyed it. Lots of out of order exhibits. Planetarium was good - although a bit dated

cameron allen

There is currently exhibition for kids under 5 years old. My twins spend more times here as the other exhibitions were a little bit too advance for them for interactive display. It is designed very nicely and stimulating .

W

Amazing exhibition! We couldn't been happier seeing the moon so close. Also they have a great play area for children all ages. Our 6 months baby had a blast!

Nick Ong

Not great for my 4 year old. It is good that they have displays for a range of ages, but it did mean there wasn't a lot for younger children. Planetarium was a fun experience. Cafe is pretty poor quality. Will try again in a couple of years.

Richard Yoon

I use to love going there in my childhood and took my baby and step son today, only to realise the best part about scienceworks was taken down 5 years ago. It's not as hands on as it use to be, I'm just really dissapointed. On the plus side the staff were lovely

Andree O'Donnell

Our family love Scienceworks. For us it's not just about "entertaining" our children - it actually gives them the opportunity to be inquisitive. They have a range of train, plane, camera, game console models showing how technology has progressed throughout the years. They have various other models and interactive displays which ask anthropological, biological and agricultural questions. There is a sports section which allows users to see great feats of past athletes whilst learning about which parts of the body are engaged during various sporting activities. Outside, there are playgrounds and an oval should your family require fresh air. There's also the old "Pumping Station", a dark building that it is presented in a mysterious manner, particularly as it's essentially an old sewerage processing facility - though, it's highly engaging from an engineering perspective. There are also shows and exhibits on lighting and aeronautical engineering. Finally, there is a fantastic section for the little ones, sensory in nature, where you'll find cork-like building blocks, vacuum tubes with feather-like fabrics to place inside, light boards and mirrors to name a few. Overall, it makes for a fun day out with the provision of opportunities to learn new things, rediscover old learnings and teach the children.

Ron Morris

A number of displays are glitched or not working, There seems to be no intention to fix these, but if your mask slipped because you did a jump test staff will appear from the cracks to wag their fingers at you. A very Victorian experience.

Frank Strik

Love love love science works. Good place to take your kids and a fun day out with your partner. Me and my partner went alone and had a blast! Great nik nak shop to get cools stuff. Always worth noting that I lost my medication (dropped it on the ground somewhere) after informing security that I had lost it incase a kid was to pick it up, security managed to find it and return it to me which really surprised me! Great place

Jed Kelly

My children enjoyed themselves, but I felt like this was small, and in need of repairs, refreshes and investment. The planetarium was wonderful. We have membership that includes Melbourne Museum, Sciencewoks, and the Immigration Museum, so I wasn't too bothered with the cost of the trip. The sound exhibit was good. The kids did a lot of the sports exhibits, but didn't get too much of a science lesson with them.

debbie keay

A great place to take kids to introduce them to the wonderful world of science and nature!!

Vince Calleja

Great place if ur a science lover. So many hand on activites and other planned events you can participate in that's fun for the family. There is a cafe and store for merch which is also rly cool. You can buy awesome scientific Stuff from the store. Rly recommend coming to this place with the family. :) (:

Anne Mosterd

Great for a day out with kids. Planetarium is an amazing experience.

Rob Seymour

Fantastic place to spend a whole day with kids. It gets very crowded on weekends and during school holidays, so be quick and arrive there early morning. It is also a good idea to get a Museum Membership to avoid long queues and get unlimited free entry to other museums as well.

Kat Graham

Fantastic place to go. You could spend all day here if you wanted. Great to have interactive activities you can enjoy. Even a good room for the toddlers to play and experiment with things.

Keith Mitchell

Great spot to wander around for a couple of hours. Best to get there when it opens so that you can get a park. If you don't go there at the start then people tend to leave in and around lunchtime. They have an outside show which is good for the kids and everyone can see.

Di Afzal

Very fond memories of school trips all came flooding back as I walked in, holding my daughters hand while we wandered through the exhibits and seeing her look of wonder was perfect. Scienceworks really is the perfect place to spark curiosity in science. Tell your schools to send their students, and when you get a chance bring your family down to experience the wonders of science!

Sorin Ardeleanu

A very good and interactive museum, great for families! If you use the metro it can be quite a walk to get here

Hyacinth Jimenez

Heaven for kids who loves exploring and getting their hands dirty with all the gadgets and activities. To tell you the truth even I find the stuff there fun and I am well over the age of 30. I would recommend this place for any parents with kids over 5 years old.

David Dukic

Amazing place to take your kids for an interactive educational experience. As a young adult I am still in awe of the installations.

angela angela

An absolute fun place for kids.

Vanessa Cutcliffe

Great place for the kids to learn and play with enjoyed the planetarium but it could do with a upgrade in graphics as it looked abit low great for families to spend time with the kids reccomend it to anyone

Nate Sternberg (naterichster)

Excellent outing for my 8 year old.

Sandeep Sahadevan

Great ext with kids, school holidays fun.3d Movie is awesome .Better go early as there is so much to watch upstairs and around at least good 4 Hours if doing Lighting show and Movie. They have cafe onsite with good food options which is handy .!

randi Droid

Great venue to take the kids who get in free and adult entry was only aus$15. Good amount of stuff to look at and the laser I'm show was worth going for just by itself. Pump tour was fascinating and they had working pumps.

H R

One of our first family outings we had and enjoyed so much after being in lockdown. I have kids aged 9 1214 & 16 and them and both my partner absolutely have the best family time out here where we are all amused wowed happy n have the greatest time. We visited the planetarium this time and it was incredible.

Xanda Steyn

Went to the Lego 'Brickcities' exhibition. Small but well worth it. There is a pop up shop adjacent too that sells a very large selection of Lego sets. The big impact for me was the static display with enormous troughs full of thousands of Lego bricks for everyone who feels inspired to build. Marvellous!

Liamm Price

Really great for kids. Try to go when its not so busy to avoid crowds and waiting times.

Traveller By Heart

Great place. The place for 0-5 is for everyone, not just for babies. The 12 o'clock planetarium show, tycho to moon was interesting, though for young ones. I've heard the lightening show is great as well. The museum was a bit crowded due to the summer holidays I guess. Would love to go when it is more peaceful.

Lydia Park

Awesome spot, the interactive installations are always fun. Could do with a little bit of an update in spots to keep other interesting for those who are regular visitors. The lighting show is always brilliant. The planetarium is also very good.

Sarah Hayman

Beautiful place. Only really good for school age kids now very tech savy. Under 5 and you just enjoy lights and sounds and no idea whats going on.

Darko Kraljik

One of the less interesting science centres I have been to. The temporary lunar display was a fun but fairly brief distraction since we went on a day that had an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. That is in comparison from the rest of the mediocre at best offering throughout the rest of the centre. I did not see the planetarium however...

Chantelle Vacouftsis

My 3 year old had an absolute ball and we didn't even see everything

Gautham Melanta

An underwhelming experience, the planetarium show Tycho to the Moon was not engaging and quite slow moving. Might try again when the little one is older.

Naomi Muir

Really is a brilliant place for young, old and in between. So much to do, touch, see, learn... you just can't go wrong. Though the food, the most below par expensive stuff I've ever had unfortunately. Really not worth any money we spent there. They're adding / changing exhibits, so we'll worth checking it out whenever you're there.

Dean

Great place the kids loved it. So much to do and learn alongside the young explorers

Col Davis

Great for the kids, not a lot of things to look at but the kids enjoy themselves, the lightning show is awesome.

Samuel Winter

It's a great place to bring the kids. We love the planetarium. Last time we saw the lightning exhibition which was great too. 4 hours is enough to see most things and then the kids lose interest.

shevonne harrington

Loved the interactive exhibits!

Melissa

Scienceworks is always a fun place to go, we go every year with the kids, they love the displays, the nice playgrounds and lawn out back and the lighting show is always a winner. Best to buy you tickets on line as the queue at the door can get quite long.

Sarah Atherstone

Best Place to learn about science Stuffs. Kids will enjoy.

Katie Tudor

The exhibits are generally good but it seems all a bit crammed in. Then there's the sports section which feels very old and half the interactive exhibits don't work. Definitely needs a refresh. The space gallery upstairs was engaging and the toddler specific exhibit was great.

Kat P

Went to visit the LEGO Brickman Cities exhibit but stayed to explore the museum. We were there for 2 hours and explored the whole site. The sport works section was our favourite as it was so interactive for both adults and children. The pumping station was a contrast to the rest of the museum and was much quieter (if a little smelly). I really enjoyed looking at all the old machinery.

Sam D

I loved going there before lockdown, all the interactive activities were fun and I loved the planetarium and lightning room shows.

Dave Kelly

We were waiting for our pick up and the very nice people kept us sit inside for a while even though they were closing. This capped if a really nice day in one of the best science themed exhibitions. It was also my first planetarium attendance which I thought was excellent. Our 4yo grandson had a ball.

Beth Rose Bongiorno

This rating is for the coffee at the scienceworks cafe. The coffee tastes burnt and is overpriced (compared to its size).

Iona MacKenzie

It's a cool science museum built next to a historic pumping house that also served as the halls of justice in the first mad Max. The museum itself is very interactive, although aimed at kids. There were a lot of very loud school groups when I visited.

H S

Was very good, only downside was it felt a bit crowded, towards the end

Livia Chamberlain

Had a fun day, it seemed like the exhibits hadn't changed much in the years since I had last been there, great for the kids

KittyKitt Kat

A fantastic museum for families. Lots of athletic science games for children.

Sarath Kv

The show describing the lightning is worth a watch. If you are an avid science lover and would like to read the facts in details then reaching early would be better. The place has a great cafe and clean toilets. The staffs are very nice and willing to engage.

David D

Up to 10 min

Mick Floyd

It's great for kids, unfortunately some items are found to be out of service, however, my kid loved it and we had a nice day at museum. it's recommended.

Michelle Gilbert

Nice place to spend time with kids on school holidays.

Jennifer Monahan

I love coming out to Scienceworks, it's a short drive from the city and a great activity for all ages. I came here a few months ago with my partner and we had a really fun time, there are lots of activities and challenges to do. Activities include; Reaction test, fitness test, strength test, coordination test, balance tests and much more. Each station has information and facts about the challenge, I always leave here with a little bit of extra knowledge. his is place is great as a family activity, it mashes learning with fun and majority of the activities are child friendly. The garden in Scienceworks is also quite fun, there is a sound wall- where you can experiment with noise vibrations. Fascinating stuff!

Tai Ifopo

Planetarium and Lightning room were good, as was the new area for the younger kids. Brick man cities really not worth the $$. Avoid school holidays as very overcrowded and very limited parking. Seemed very disorganised and chaotic inside, layout not great with exhibit lines crashing into shop exit. Staff were noticeably stressed and completely over the school holiday crowds. Would return only for different Planetarium shows, otherwise overpriced.

Chris de Zeeuw

Had a great time at Scienceworks on the weekend! We went to see the scale model of the moon, which was awesome! Great for all ages, very interactive and fun for the young ones. The play area for the younger kids is great, heaps for them to do and play with and gated to avoid toddler escapees!

kim kita

Excellent day out with the kids. Accessible for the youngest up through to teens (and parents) and there is enough here to keep you entertained and learning for a good few hours. We didn't do any of the added extra shows, but they also sound great.

Steve

Brilliant place to take the kids and grandkids. Excellent light show being presented at the moment. So many different experiences for children, especially if you're a nanna and poppy looking for something different for your grandies.

G B

Low cost and free for kids and concession. Extra charge for planetarium

brandon robinson

An absolutely wonderful place to spend the day with the kids. Super informative and educational for adults and kids. The sports section is heaps of fun. Highly recommend going into the Tesla electricity exhibition, really cool!

Don Culpan

Getting all ages excited about Science is an artform that Scienceworks have absolutely nailed. With interactive exhibits that get everyone thinking, it's a great day out for anyone interested in the world around them. Both the kids and both of us had a great day out. We'll be back again, for sure!

Jem Bear

The moon exhibition is absolutely amazing, could lay underneath the big moon all day. We also attended the robotics exhibition with my 2 children( 2.5 year old and 1 year old). Everyone was very welcoming and allowed him to interact with the robots

Obi won

Interesting, engaging for all ages. Staff at the planetarium were fun and well spoken. Some interactive displays we not working - I expect the is a lot of maintenance required!

saswato chowdhury

Great little place this. An array of unusual exhibits here. Great for kids. Big and small. My visit included 40th anniversary of mad max. At night it turns this place into something else. Great pics with flash photography. Of course it's only open during the day. Night tours would be good.

alex bonn

Weekday

Kati Balla (baka)

We went to Scienceworks for the Lego exhibition. It was an awesome exhibition but a little small. The rest of Scienceworks is fantastic if you have children! The cafe is really over priced so take a packed lunch!

Rach Stacpoole

Great place to take kids for whole day fun! Lots of things to see n try, fun activities for young learners and there is outdoor playgrounds area as well. Lots of information and knowledge for adults too! so it’s perfect fun for all family on weekend to go. If you one who keep curious and keen to know things this is great place to explore

楚威

Good for kids to explore, not recommend for teens. Staff at the front desk wasn't very helpful but others were very nice.

Den Mac

Very hands on experience for children (& adults) at a reasonable price- kids free adults only $15. Well worth the money! Good cafeteria type food, with lots of healthy options as well as the old time favorites

Honourine Edghill

One of my favourite places in Melbourne.

Ian Comben

Very fun with lots of play areas, bringing the kids and tips is highly recommended.

Andrew Yap

A really interesting place. Just be mindful that there can be a queue to enter at busier times (museum membership speeds that up) and you have to book times to see some of the special exhibits like the planetarium etc. We went on. Saturday last time and parking was a bit of a nightmare. Otherwise it's a good interesting and educational museum ????

Vivien Nguyen

From an adult's perspective: the planetarium is fantastic, but the rest will mostly entertain kids and not you.

P G

Our kids love coming here. Lots to see and do including lots of hands on interactive exhibits which the kids really enjoy. Children under 16 have free entry which is fantastic. Also have the added bonus of the planetarium here so you can see a short movie on the dome ceiling (at an additional cost). Overall well worth visiting

Graham Eldridge

We go to Scienceworks frequently. We missed it over the covid period. They often have new interactive exhibitions and it's lots of fun for kids

Simon Reid

Two of us arrived on a Tuesday at 10am. Little did we know that the school groups were swarming outside. It would've been nice if no kids came at all, but we were pretty lucky that it wasn't a weekend or school holidays (that would've been hectic). Our experience entailed looking at the displays and watching a screening in the planetarium of 'Moon Base One' (3/5 stars for the subpar acting and the low quality on the planets). One benefit was the Kiwi host who was knowledgeable and engaging. The sport section was my favourite area, particularly the body tests to see your flexibility, reaction times, explosive jump, reflexes, strength etc. The cafeteria was a little overpriced (but that's what you'd expect at any establishment such as a museum; particularly when it's in the middle of nowhere) but it was quite tasty. Like seriously, why is Scienceworks in Williamstown??? I suggest moving it to the South-Eastern suburbs because that's where most of the schools are coming from anyway. But anyway, overall I had a wonderful time and loved reliving my childhood. Thanks for the educational memories :)

sue. h

It was out first visit during the summer break and kids had lots of fun.

Every time I go to the lightning room it changes just a little. I never get sick of coming to Scienceworks.

Stephen Kam

My brother took my 2 year old niece, and I took my 17 year old daughter here; I think my brother and daughter had more fun out of everyone. It is catered to everyone, of all ages, from young to old. You should set aside a good part of your day to be able to explore the entire place at your leisure. We will be back for sure.

Smith x

Hadn't been back to Scienceworks since I was little and now I still love it great range of areas and things to do. Fun and informative at the same time.

Anthony Quint

Brought our toddler here and this is a really fun place to visit. Plenty to see & do and it is great for adults and children alike. Probably need about a couple to experience everything with the general admin ticket, allow more time if going to do some of the extras. Also, they have a good gift shop, definitely worth a check if you have time (adult tickets at the time of this review are $15).

James Priest

Kids really enjoyed it, although it was massively overpriced. Especially the robot exhibition at which several interactive displays did not work and one was completely broken

Nicole Moysey

A good day out for the kids. Always something new to see. Reasonably priced entry fee. No problems parking. Very crowded on the days when there is a school bus or 10 visiting. Love the gift shop to bits! A long way to drive from the other side of town, so we only get there once or twice a year.

Muthana Ali

We visited mainly to see the Robotics display.. so disappointed wasn't worth it at all

Rohini Siva

It's fun for the kids and there are some interesting things for adults. The baby area is great and the outdoor grassed section is handy for lunch. However, compared to Scitech in Perth it feels lacking.

P V

Nice museum but to be honest I expected to see more for the price we payed.

Colin Wilson

A great experience even as an adult. I haven't been for years and it's was still great to visit. Saw a planetarium show and the projection and video was fantastic. Funny to see parts of it has not changed at all. Pretty disappointing food options and the food prices are also outrages. Entry is $14 5 and the planetarium was $8.

Diệu An Nguyễn

Great experience for the kids and adults too. Very interactive, my 4 year old loved the future you robot game, designing future cars, sports games and building blocks. If you're going during the week in a school term, beware of school crowds until around 2pm

Paul Soloviev

Amazing experience for children and adults learn something too.

ned tobin

My kids love to visit Scienceworks. We often do a quick call by. My primary and kindergarten aged child can not go too often. They love a hands on approach to science.

Ben Limmer

Great things for kids to learn. Good control of spacing and crowd. Planetarium shows are superb. The type of place kids could go to every couple of years.

Belle Hunter

Great place for the grandkids 6 to 10. They had a great time interacting with the displays. Entertained them for 4 hours. The cafe had good coffee and homemade food

vanessa duncil

This is an amazing facility that’s good for kids from small to big, young to old, and for parents too. Plan on spending half a day here, see the lightning show and do the pumphouse tour. All the exhibitions that we saw with estimating, engaging, interactive and overall very impressive. You can get a train here if you organised, otherwise it is a $20 Uber ride from town.

Robert Schmitz

An excellent way to educate and entertain kids of all ages...and grown-ups as well ???? A great way to use your time in building long lasting bonds with your kids, whether your own, from relatives or others! It is a must!

Melissa Nicholson

I went with my brother and his family, they had someone visiting from overseas. I found science works had something for everyone, the oldest nephew was learning about space so we all went to the Planetarium which is something I haven't done since I was a child of ten. They had robots for the big kids at heart and sports and engines and I loved the boiler room. The children and Adults love all the hands on experience they had to offer.

This is a great place to keep the kids entertained the whole day. We enjoyed the toddlers week, which was only $15 entrance and we had such a great time. Plenty of outdoor play and picnic spots in the shade. Some of the activities were not running due to COVID but there’s more than enough to keep them busy. We spent 4hrs there. Free parking spots around the main car park if you arrive early enough. Highly recommended!

Absolutely the worst coffee in Melbourne. As for 1 sugar and you will get so much that it is undrinkably sweet. Sweeter than Softdrink sweet. .The new exhibits are much better than some of the earlier ones. The lightning room show is loads of fun. And the planetarium has very entertaining and engaging shows on. Black holes show was very good.
