Really small, but lovely museum. My favorite part was the collection of letters from the war and the wool bathing suits. It also offers a visit to one of the oldest light houses in Ontario. Lots of beautiful and well kept artifacts.

Great little museum with lots of local history, and the lighthouse provides a great view of the lake and the surrounding area.

Another must stop location if you are in the area. It may be a small location, but it is full of rich history and amazing pieces. Take the time to appreciate what this little museum has to offer. I hear people complain about the price, but really its a one time fee and worth it if you are actually interested in what it has to offer. It also give you access to the lighthouse across the street, which is another favorite place to go for our family. i highly recommend visiting this museum.

Port Burwell Marine Museum and Historic Lighthouse is a historical museum in Port Burwell, Ontario, Canada. Located at the mouth of the Big Otter Creek on Lake Erie, the museum and lighthouse reflect upon when Port Burwell was at the height of its fame as a shipbuilding community. The lighthouse, completed in 1840 and renovated in the 1980s,remains one of Canada's oldest Lighthouses of a completely wooden construction. Present in the museum collection is the most accurate model ever built of the rail car ferry the Ashtabula, which made routine trips between Port Burwell and Ashtabula, Ohio for the purposes of transporting coal. This ship was a mainstay of the Port Burwell shipping experience until the 1950s and played an intricate role in the development of Southern Ontario through its supply of coal energy. The museum's collection includes original Fresnel lenses, finely detailed model ships and a vast assortment of tools, photographs, and artifacts dating from the 19th century.

Fascinating and eye opening

Nice little museum although a bit expensive for the small size of it. The lighthouse tour was neat but not for kids. They have a sign saying kids under 7 or 8 not recommended we took our 5 year old up and it didn't go super well. The stair ways up get steep and narrow near the top so it may also not he the best for older or claustrophobic travellers.

We were in town looking for things to do and came across this little gem. It is just a little place but has alot of cool stuff. And the people are more then welcome to answer any questions you might have.

Quite a bit of marine pieces from the local area, not a lot for the overall history of the great Lakes but if you are looking for the history of port Burwell then this a good choice

Ari

So much information to learn and so many cool artifacts to see.

Great little museum. Good collection of lenses, lanterns and compasses. Unique little setup of other historical aspects of the era and town. The lighthouse was very well restored. The climb as expected, was steep but the view out onto Lake Erie was well worth it. The staff at both locations were friendly and helpful. We booked ahead due to COVID. Thank you for preserving our marine history to share with others and thank you for keeping your visitors safe by following protocol.

Unfortunately the staff at the marine museum and wheel house were less then welcoming, mostly because of my two children under 4. After we left the staff continued to talk rudely about us, which my wife could hear as she hadn’t left the building yet. However the submarine was a great spot, and the staff at the lighthouse were incredibly welcoming and helpful!
