Here we offer you all the feddbacks of real people like you who consumed the products and services of Valley Camp (Museum) around Sault Sainte Marie area (Canada).
To this day this business gets a score of 4.7 over 5 and this score is based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is practically the top, and it's founded on a high number of feddbacks, so we can think that the valuation is quite faithful. If there are many people who bothered to value when they are happy, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to give tatings when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Museum is included in the category of Museum.
So much to see and read, but it could be a little bit better organized. But all in all, definitely worth a visit! Those cargo holds are so huge, it's hard to imagine them being entirely full of coal or grain.
Great so museum. There were a lot of interesting exhibits about show of the great lakes.
This is a must see and experience when you come to Saint Marie. You can go topside and see the crew's quarters and feel what it might be like to be on a big ship on the great lakes. Best museum I have ever been to.
Very cool museum. Worth the trip.
Great place to visit, you really get free access to the entire ship.
Very cool, and big. Has a lot of history behind it, and they also have a little quiz on the history of the boat and the design of it based on what rooms did what.(galley, anchor, and engine room) definitely a place of history for students to learn or just appreciate.
Great place for history and kids. Bring food and eat outside after the Museum.
Very interesting and unique experience to be on the ship.
Awesome little museum located within an old freighter. You can see all parts of the freighter from the engine room to the sleeping quarters. It's pretty cool. Not too expensive either.
If you ever wondered what it is like on a freighter, this is it. Plenty of facts and artifacts to keep you interested for hours. You are able to walk just about everywhere on the ship. Even has a little search project for the kids to keep them interested. Thumbs up.
Must see attraction! This museum ship has an extensive collection of real artifacts and maritime history. The ship itself is just as impressive as you are able to tour the entire vessel. I estimate 45 minutes to 1 and a half hours to see the entire ship.
This place is awesome! We took 6 young kids through and they loved every part. Keep those kids close though, there are some intimidating places where a kid could get hurt. Fairly priced. Worth every penny and minute we spent there.
What a cool way to see inside a ship. Love the history and the knowledge you will gain from reading everything.
A little pricey for the exhibits, but it's a big ship to explore and lots to learn! They have a lot of information about the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Great Lakes in general. You can go down into the cargo holds and all the way up on the bridge! Most areas are wheelchair accessible.
This is a really great museum with an expansive collection of relics from the high water days of great lakes shipping. The displays aren't as polished as other larger museums but they're doing a great job!
The Edmund fitzgerald exhibit brought me to tears. So well done!
The family and I went on a labor day, mini vacation. Going on the boat ride, seeing the valley camp ship museum, was amazing, I enjoyed the tower of history, even though I don't do well with heights, I loved the view from up top, and the boat and being on the lake, exhilarating. If you haven't already experienced sights in and around this beautiful state, I highly recommend these. If you have experienced them, there's always something new to see, and always something new to learn.
Very cool place to check out and educational with history.
Museum in an old great lakes freighter. Whole new perspective looking down from the bridge. Interesting to see the various crew quarters, the engine, bridge, topside, and to wander the holds.
Very nice rich in history and handicap accessible with in august very hot inside bring water
If you like the big tanker ships you will enjoy this place. We took the tour of the belly of the ship it was very cool for my wife and I. We also got to see the life raft from the Edmund Fitzgerald that survived. So if you want to kill about 2 hours this was a cool place to see. And it will take about 2 hours to get through. Very educational.
Amazing museum, incredible wheelchair accessibility!! The ramping system between decks was phenomenal!! Only work they had bathroom onsite and that the bathroom they do recommend, were accessible. But very pleasant and educational adventure!!
It was COLD! Wear a coat, hat, gloves... Some interesting exhibits. A lot of things seem to be just old junk with few ties to anything historical.
Always a must see and do when you are in the area. If you don't give it 5 stars it's because you really aren't into ships and history. Just seeing and touching the Fitzgerald's torn apart life boat makes it worth every penny.
The museum was intriguing and quite informative. Well worth the visit if you're planning a trip to Sault Ste. Marie. However, visitor trash was unfortunately plentiful on some floors and even inside some of the viewing rooms.
It's alright ????♀️ my friend loved it. Not my cup of tea tho
Very sweet place to visit, very informative on shipwrecks that happened, get to see all the parts of a boat and where the crew worked and slept as well as the duties of each member of the boat. Make sure u ask for the deal on all 3 sites, the boat, the tower and river of history museum.
We make an annual trek across the US to vacation in our family cottage in the Les Cheneaux. We have never been to the freighter museum, and thus time had our 5 year old with us. We loved this attraction, as it is full of artifacts, historical equipment and descriptions, plus you get to walk ALL OVER the ship(certain locations are secured for good reason). We took our time to walk through every inch and took all the history in!! My son couldn't get enough of it, and kept us at a healthy pace. We are so lucky to have ties to the great lakes, and love that this is available to allow others to learn about this amazing history.
Great historical place for all ages!! Sooooo much to see, and we'll worth every penny!
Very good museum love the cargo hold. Would love to do a sleep over in that ship
A must stop when you're in the area! Lot's of history on this ship.
My girls loved it!!! Started out with, "Dad, this is boring, let's just go" ended with me not being able to get them off of them ship! ????
Fun place for all ages. Exploring ths ship is a great way of understanding the shipping industry. The valley camp is located on the St. Mary's river, a short walk from downtown Sault Sainte Marie, MI.
Great museum with a lot to see and learn. Would reccommend for anyone in the Sault area, lots to see and take in including the actual lifeboat from the Edmund Fitzgerald
This was a nice museum to walk around while we waited for our boat tour. Took about hour and 20min.
Lots to see very friendly people.good ole Souvenir shop
Great boat museum. Loved it and freindly staff.
This ship made me almost wish I had went into the shipping/sailing industry. That is... until we visited the Shipwreck Museum in Whitepoint. Upon which I was immensely happy I didn't..
Absolutely loved my experience, It was full of awe inspiring stories & information on the history of these ships! Definitely encourage all travelers to see this exhibit! I can't wait to go again!
My son enjoyed the tour on deck!!
If you liked visiting this ship, then you would likely like the National Great Lakes Museum in Toledo with an even bigger ship. Valley Camp uses the inside of the ship a lot more. Edmund Fitzgerald life boats with holes in them were memorable. Well done.
This place was amazing. You got to go pretty much everywhere of the ship including on the very top. This was probably the best place to go to out of the other historical places that you really get your moneys worth. Also what made it even cooler is that they had artifacts from the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Kinda pricy to get into. They have a lot of neat maritime history. You can go almost everywhere on the ship. It has facts about it and vessels of it's time and type all over the place. If you are reader or interested in this type of activity, go with plenty of time to spare. My family and I spent an easy 2 hours there and only truly read half (generous guess) of the stuff there. Plus they had a documentary movie, which was close to 2 hours by itself. I didn't have time to watch it though. I am writing this about 2 weeks after I visited, so don't ask what the film was about, I can't remember exactly.
So much to see at this museum. Especially enjoyed the Edmund Fitzgerald movie.
It was fun to see all the history contained in the ship!
Incredible museum in a freighter. So many opportunities to learn about a variety of shipping related topics.
Touring the inside of this ship was incredible, and seeing just how huge it is and to think how much it hauled in its hey day is out of this world. A must see for the entire family! You can go every where on this ship.
Cool little tour. Wish the outside parts were a little cleaner
One of the best and largest maritime museums I've been to. They do a fantastic job of educating us while honoring the legacy of great lakes shipping. Beautiful location. Don't miss their sister attraction, the Tower of History across the street. Edited to add we got a ghost on camera in the gallery. Didn't see it till a couple of days later.
Staff is friendly and goes out of their way to make the experience great. Highly recommended for the family.
The ship museum had a lot of great information and I learned a lot about how and who runs the different areas of the ship. My 12 year old daughter said it was Awesomely amazingly!!
Cool museum on the boat.
You dont have the opportunity to walk around a historic great lakes freighter very often. This is a great piece of history all by itself, let alone all the great artifacts, models, and displays filling the interior. Tours are self-guided and can (but doesnt have to) involve going outside on the deck. Make sure to take note of the Edmond Fitzgerald lifeboat on display. Masks were required. Also, there is a cool scavenger hunt sheet to grab (free) ar the entrance. Good for all ages.
This is a do not miss experience in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan! My wife and I enjoyed all the memorabilia and exhibits in the huge old ship. It is completely restored to it's original shape and at the same time shows it's valuable use when it was in service. The even have a memorial display of the Edmund Fitzgerald including one of its recovered lifeboats. I highly recommend you make plans to see this ship and tour it inside and out when you come to beautiful Sault Ste Marie and the Soo locks!
Huge maritime museum that completely fills the cargo holds of this former great lakes freighter. Much bigger than expected with lots of displays, artifacts, and even a couple theaters showing documentaries. Plus, once that's done, you can head to the upper deck and tour the freighter bridge, engineering area, and living quarters. Don't miss the awesome view of the lock canal off the stern on the upper deck as well. Great place to stop to pick up some historical context while in the city.
Lots of good history here of the great lakes fun for all ages
So many sites and so beautiful
A fun way to learn about life on a freighter and some other cool Great Lakes history. We went early on a weekday and pretty much beat the rush and the heat. The Scavenger Hunt/Trivia is cool to do while you walk through if you have kids (or not) because then it helps you pay attention and discover.
Great ship museum. Nice to see inside workings, living quarters etc
I love history, this was very cool walking around inside the ship. You got to see what their lives where like.
I loved this museum. I haven't been there since I was like 12. So it was all pretty much new to me. All the displays are cool and it's fun to learn some history. My kids really enjoyed it as well.
Really cool, lots of information about navigating the great lakes in ships throughout history. Our 8 year old loved it!
Great museum, well worth the cost! Learn the history and see the actual spaces on the ship at the same time!
What an amazing tour. Freight ships are so big and you really can't understand that until you've been inside!
Lots of fun to be able to explore the ship at your own pace. The engine rooms, Various quarters for crew, and then the wheelhouse all have great setups you could spend a lot of time looking at all the fine details. Things look fairly genuine, I assume a lot is original. The room dedicated to the Edmund Fitzgerald is well done. You can see real pieces recovered from the infamous wreck. Lots of information to absorb about navigating the Great Lakes.
Legendary place to be for 2 hours. Lots of history about the Great Lakes and the Valley Camp. Has a view on top to see the Soo Locks. You can buy a ticket to the tower of history.
Once in a lifetime experience! A walk back in time. I recommend visiting this lake freighter.????
The Valley Camp Museum ship is a very nice tourist attraction. I have been on it many times, years ago. It is also a nice place to walk around, you can go right down the hill and get close to the water at the front of the boat area. There are also a couple of tourist shops nearby, and there is a lot of parking, especially if you are wanting to go on the Soo Locks Boat Tour.
Beautiful ship full of intersting and awe inspiring exhibits. Loved being able to walk the ship and her different levels. Staff was very friendly and helpful to answer questions. They even have a scavenger hunt that you can do! Definitely a place that people need to visit!!!!!
Took my dad thru the museum, we both really enjoyed the tour and the view
Educational, the exhibits outline ports and cities across the entire Great Lakes. The set of oil paintings of ships are truly magnificent. So much to see here.
Amazing ship museum. Had great Covid-19 protocols and I had a great time. Canada view across the river.
It was a great adventure for my family to visit the Valley Camp Museum Ship not only she has very good collection of ship wreck relics, pictures and exhibits but especially she was a working freighter herself. It's was cool to walk around on the top of the boat outside. Very interesting for kids and adults too. Good opportunity to know more about Michigan's shipping industry.
Fun, but not quite worth the cost of entry. I wonder if the local native American tribes were consulted in the birch bark exhibit. If so, I think it should be mentioned. That is one area that could use more information.
Fascinating trip into Great Lakes maritime history! Very moving tribute to the Fitzgerald and Bradley.
I was pleasantly surprised! I had not visited this popular tourist spot since I was a teenager and boy has it undergone a revitalization! Not on has it had a strong facelift, so much has been added! I brought my almost 5 year old son and we spent nearly 2 hours here - and he was immersed the entire time! The tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald is quite moving and of course being on the outside upper deck is always a thrill. An all around great stop on your journey to or through The Soo! Highly recommend!
Very big museum highly recommend for boat nerds lol very awesome history with the great lakes. And see how they operate the ships.
Super neat. Very informative and really liked the Edmund Fitzgerald part of the tour.
Fascinating immersion into the history and lore of the Great Lakes. Well worth taking the time to explore in depth.
Awesome thanks ????
Very cool and unique museum ship. Not 9nly do you get to tour the ship but there are tons of exhibits in the cargo holds to see.
Exhibits were good. A little more written description in a few places but worth it.
Nice way to see what the ore ship's are all about.
What an incredible place to stop and spend some time. We walked in without really knowing what to expect but it was a fantastic experience. Wonderful displays, very unique information and the tribute to the Fitzgerald was one of the best we've seen. Great job to all and highly recommend!
Well worth a visit. Very large with lots of diverse exhibits. You go down deep into the hold and all the way up to the top of the ship.
Lots of great Maritime and Sault history. Edmond Fitzgerald items also. Learn about current freighters navigating the locks.
Was absolutely amazing to see!!!! I took way too many photos to share!
Lots of interesting artifacts - could be arranged better.
Excellent museum ship! See how the sailors lived and worked on the great lakes. Exhibits are well thought out and very informative. They even have artifacts from the Edmund Fitzgerald. A fun outing for the family!
Lots of interesting things to see. Very informative. Includes an aquarium with different native fish. Can tour all 3 levels of the ship. There is a scavenger hunt for kids to do and it was a good way to keep them interested. The staff were also really friendly and knowledgeable.
What an amazing place to be with family, this museum is amazing, come see it yourself and see
We stopped in here to get out of the rain a bit while staying in the area, and we glad we did. The museum consists of three levels, including wandering through some of the old rooms of the ship (and the top deck), as well as exploring a series of modified rooms that hold exhibits for the museum, There are tons of models and artifacts from a variety of Great Lakes ships, an entire area devoted to the Edmund Fitzgerald, and tons of interesting information. As ship museums often are, it was quite chilly inside and windy and rainy up top while we were there, so I would definitely suggest bringing a sweatshirt.
Interesting ship. Was disappointed that more of the engine room wasn't viewable.
Well preserved and maintained piece of history. Access to many parts of the ship available. Absolutely loved the museum displays especially the lifeboats recovered from the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Such a neat place filled with so much nautical history!!! Definitely a must see for any visitor coming to the Soo Locks area.
This is a must see in the Soo. You get to see what kind of life the Great Lakes Sailors had on board these older smaller ship and how hard it would have been to be thrown around in the rough seas on Lake Superior. Those who sailed when this ship was active did some long and hard nights. No internet, no smart phones. When you get done here go next door to the tour boat and go through the locks. This is what the Soo is all about and why it is here.
Very cool place to see, lots old information. Floors are a bit hard to walk at on a few floors becuse they are straight and even, so just be careful.
This place is so awesome! There's sooo much history and cool stuff to look at. Good Edmund Fitzgerald stuff. And gives a look inside the big ships your watching coming into the locks. Plus you can get a package deal to do both the Valley Camp ship and the Tower of History. Both awesome things to do in the area!
Loved it. Exactly everything it was promised to be in the brochure, plus you have an amazing view of the locks and freighters passing by from the top deck. The artifacts from the Edmund Fitzgerald are very cool to see in person. The living quarters have been well preserved, and the placards throughout the ship are very detailed, pointing out aspects of the ship/artifacts that would be easy to miss.
Awesome museum ship. Who doesn't like pretending to be a Captain on a freighter and walking her deck? Visit the displays beneath her deck, and inside the actual cargo hold of the vessel. Stop buy the engine room and touch the anchor chain. This will give you a great perspective of life on an early 700 foot freighter. Gift shop has great gifts to remember your visit, and sign up the young ones to become Merchant Mariners so they can swab the decks, lol. Fun for all families and a must stop place on your visit to the Soo. We will return again.
Nice museum if you love ships, nice little gift shop also, has an entrance fee but worth it.
Self guided tour makes it possible for folks to take as little or as much time as needed. Plenty of history to absorb. Take your time and enjoy
So much fun! Even getting to go on top!(note the top closes earlier than the rest of the ship!) Seen it a few times as a kid and now letting my kids experience it!
They closed early so we didn't get to see it. The last ticket was supposed to be at 6:00 but it was closed at 5:30. We were misinformed that we could see it after the soo locks tour but the website says closes at 5:00.
Really interesting place to visit. Lots of exhibits with historic and informative facts of Michigans shipping industry. There is also an exhibit about the Edmond Fitzgerald. I highly recommend this, especially if you are waiting for the ride through the locks, but give yourself at least an hour or so to look at everything
Cool place to visit. Lower deck really uneven. Lots of cool things to look at and you can go on top of the boat and see where some rooms were and look out at the soo locks
We loved it here, so much rich history!
This big, beautiful old oreboat holds a special place in my heart. I can't stop taking pictures of her!! Take the full tour. You can go "up top" all the way to the pilot house, and all the way down into the holds. (Kinda creepy, but in a good way.) The museum displays are very interesting and the chewed up lifeboats of the Edmund Fitzgerald always bring me to tears. Love this place and all the memories she helps us to hold on to. Please, please, always take care of her. She is an absolute treasure. ????
4.5 stars! I've always wanted to sail on an iron boat, but this'll probably be as close as I get to it. Fascinating exhibits, and I loved just wandering throughout the boat. The Great Lakes aquarium was a nice touch. Highly recommend!
A mechanically inclined 12 year old boy may mistake this place for a sphere of the terrestrial paradise. (Paradise is of course some 55 miles to the WNW.) Both a wonderful and a melancholy reminder of the rich history and former prosperity of the Great Lakes outside of certain financial districts of Chicago. Lots of historical dots are connected and more are connectable to those with a broader knowledge of US History (the ship was commissioned by one of Mark Hanna's interests, he who purchased an election for McKinley and who bought TR, though he did not stay bought.). Fascinating ary gallery in an Iron ore cargo hold of ore ships painted in the styles of various 19th and early 20th century masters from Winslow Homer to Van Gogh and Cezanne. Artist Jim Robertson, who seems worthy, art matrons of the world, of a nice glossy book of his paintings. Fascinating and quite reasonably priced on the whole. Gift shop is rather on the low brow side, alas.
Inside is YUGE museum devoted to ships on great lakes. Saw current ship heading to locks. Front of that ship BLT in 1952
$14.50 admission. Hours vary a little by season, but 10-5 +-. Plan on a lot of time: I spent 4 hours and read about 70% of the displays and watched 20 minutes of a looping Edmund Fitzgerald video. 95% of the ship is wheelchair accessible: ramps lead everyone onto the lower and upper deck; only the pilot house does not have a ramp. 10% of the displays are related to the ship, 20% lake Superior development/ history, 50% other ships, 10% Edmund Fitzgerald. 10% Coast Guard. I 100% recommend visiting it. Note that the bottom level / cargo hold / 20% of displays are on a wavy steel floor. Boots would be best, but not a huge deal.
Been here a couple different times I always enjoy walking through and looking at it on our travels we also enjoy that you get a discount when showing your tickets from going up in the tower of History would definitely say if you're coming to town this is a spot to come very kid friendly also there is a free dog kennel at the soo locks boat tour which is right next door
Self guided ship tour, and museum? I'm in! Lots to see and you aren't getting hustled through by a guide. We spent a few hours looking around.
Looking for something to do while in Sault Saint Marie and thought "what would it be like to walk on a cargo freighter?" Well, this is the place. Cost is a little high at $14.50 per adult, but you have access to most of the ship and can easily spend 3 hours reading and looking at all the displays. Plus the have a movie about the Edmund Fitzgerald which sank near here in 1975.
Very very interesting would definitely refer people to go
There's a ton of stuff about the great lakes and various other boats, and ship wrecks... to check out in this ship. And seeing the period above deck items was neat too.
Wonderful trip through history. Self guided and very informative.
My husband and I took a day together without our grown boys and had a blast at multiple places we are having so much fun alone were still up in the Soo awesome time
Loved it! Alot of walking but SO worth it. When you can physically see the ballast and cargo holds... Wow! $15.50 per adult! So interesting and econmical ????????????????????????
Very cool freighter....lots of history....take the time to explore & learn.....pay respect to those who have paved the way for our products to live by every day.
Very interesting to visit, the ship is amazing the staff friendly, something unique to experience and their exhibit to the Edmund Fitzgerald was eerily interesting.. Better than what the "shipwreck museum"offered.
Great museum full of Great Lakes shipping history. I've been a dozen times and still love it.
This experience was so much fun for the adults and kids. The kids got to do a "scavenger hunt" and find fun facts about the ship and surrounding area.
If you like old ships, you will enjoy this. The Valley Camp was a Great Lakes freighter and purchased as a museum in 1968. You have access to the entire ship, and it itself offers a great place to view the ships that have or will be passing through the Soo Locks. (You can not see the locks from this vantage point) It is set up with museum displays in what was the large cargo hold, and this cover two levels. The lower level is built right on top of the old cargo hold steel floor, which is quite beat up and so lumpy as to be tiring to walk on. (The ship had a small list, and that made all walking tiring after sometime) There is also access to the engine room and it appears that all the mechanical's are intact. A long and winding (ADA compliant) ramp takes you to the deck, where you can view the crew quarters and pilot house. Although the ramp is ADA, I don't think getting around the deck is so accessible. Kids will have a fun time exploring here and those interested in the Great Lakes shipping will enjoy the displays.
Absolutely a great historical place and a great museum self guided tour is easy to follow and you can take all the time you want. It has amazing history of the great lakes and history from the Edmund Fitzgerald. If anyone likes and appreciates history of the great lakes you will love it, and if you don't than move on
Huge museum! Fun to climb around on with good displays. I learned a lot.
What an awesome experience and very informative. I've never been up this way but thanks to the HOG rally that was here I got to experience so much that I never would have expected
Great for any ship or sailing enthusiast. Fun for people of all ages.
Great place to take family on an excursion, lots of things to see, a bit too touristy but still very fun and educational and informative nonetheless. Some of the only artifacts from the Edmund Fitzgerald are on display as well as being able to see all the intricate parts of an actual Great lakes freighter. Can't go wrong
This was a great museum to visit! We have driven past many times when visiting the Soo, but this was my first visit here. There's lots of history on different freighters and ships. Great for any age. There are stairs that you will have to go up and down, depending on where you're trying to go on the ship.
The inside displays are excellent. Really well put together with lots of good information. The ship itself however was a little disappointing. When comparing it to the National Museum of the great lakes in Toledo, this ship is much less preserved and not nearly as fun to explore. In Toledo you get to use the controls in the pilot house and you can walk through much of the ship. Still worth a visit.
Very interesting and cool to see the inside of this cargo ship. It's amazing to stand at the helm of the ship and witness how massive it is. I couldn't believe the size of the cargo compartments and to imagine them filled with raw materials! Very educational and you really get up close and personal with the workings of the ship and duties of the crew and their life aboard. I'm a reader of the informational signs everywhere I visit and highly recommend reading as many as time allows.
So worth visiting! The life boats from the Edmond Fitzgerald make it worthwhile by themselves. Lots of ship models.
Awesome some place for kids and adults. Very informative, interesting and fun.
A fun museum. Great experience to walk in and on the ship.
Very nice place. Lots of information on great Lakes shipping.
Learned a lot about Great Lake's shipping that I didn't know.
So I've been here 12 years ago and it was a great experience but this time we went and the sign outside said last ticket sold at 4pm and we arrived at 3:45 and the ticket clerk had the closed sign turned and told us the last ticket had been sold. So disappointing as we had traveled 8 hours to get here and weren't able to see one of our favorite museums on our road trip in the UP. If the sign states 4 then that's what it should be!
Real cool! Awesome way to spend some time. The gift shop is cool and veteran owned. The view over the river is nice and good to see over a morning cup of coffee. Check it out!
This place is nice to visit. They even have a dog cage out side for your dog while you walk around inside. Problem was no shade there for them. But very clean area.
Did the tour of the locks, very cool. Then we did the souvenir shop. Then the museum. We love museums and this one is a little different, it's in a tanker. Definitely recommend this one
Really cool great lakes shopping museum. They cover shipping and the locks from the early 1800s until the present. They have the two recovered life boats from the Edmund Fitzgerald there.
Great gem of Sault Ste. Marie. Step inside a real freighter that has many exhibits and artifacts in it. You can see how the crew lived and worked. Great family activity!
Lots of History lots of stuff to look at worth the time
What a cool museum! You can go into some of the crew's cabins, but you can view them all. (Some are view only - I'm guessing for safety reasons.) The cargo hold has been turned into a three story Great Lakes museum, and the stuff they have in there kept my kids interested for far longer than I thought it would. Well worth the visit.
A must see when in the area. Loaded with info on the locks, ships and history of the area and ships that have been lost in the Great Lakes. Definitely worth the time. The views of the river and locks from up top are great!
Great museum. By far my favorite
This was a fun self guided tour. Such a cool space.
Great museum of the old Great Lakes shipping!
The ship is an amazing home to all the History inside. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk about, so much to see. If anyone is in the area, please make it a destination, you won't be disappointed.
2nd time I've done that tour.I love history.????????
Great museum, also great going to the top, seeing the wheelhouse, plus a great exhibit about the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Excellent museum and ship. It's much more then what I thought.
2020-07-22: I enjoyed this more than I expected and we spent more time here than I thought we would. Like any museum, I wasn't into every exhibit/display, but the ones I enjoyed made my day. There's a good amount of maritime history and models. Some areas were off limits, but in general, you can walk the whole ship. Highlights for me: Crew quarters, open front hold (feel the expanse of the ship), engine room, walking the top deck, Fitzgerald lifeboats, Fitzgerald timeline. I recommend swinging in and taking a couple hours here.
The second freighter I've toured, the other is the Ervin in Duluth. Both equally interesting. I try to imagine living on one for days at a time. Very informative & interesting background.
This is a great museum. The information about the ship, the Soo Locks, and Great Lakes shipping is incredible. In addition, both lifeboats from the Edmund Fitzgerald can be seen here. Highly recommend!
Awesome Museum! Loved the Vignettes of all of the shipwrecks and Layouts of the Locks. and walking the top deck of the Valley Camp was the Cherry on top. Standing on the Bridge pilot house was Awesome! I was wisked away to the middle of a November Gale with Waves breaking over the bow and could put myself out on the lake and visualize what it is like to be on a freighter of that size. Great Place and a must stop!! The Edmund Fitzgerald Lifeboats and Wall of Remberance was a special treat and a check off on my bucket list for me! One Thing i will mention to the Staff at the Valley Camp is to please protect the Lifeboats from the "Fitz" better. the ability to touch and feel is good but I would hope that its protected from damage from the vistors better and honor its one of a kind and symbolism and honor of the fallen crew members. Velvet room maybe?
The ticket price is definitely a little high. The people running the museum seem to have forgotten that their museum is inside a historic freighter and it shows with the lack of preservation.
Well worth the price and more. You can freely roam the whole ship. Your ticket is good all day, so you can step out for a break of you need it. We spent almost 3 hours touring. Lots and lots of history presented very well. Staff are very nice and helpful.
It is a great place in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. to bring kids and walk around in an old freighter. You can view artifacts from Great lakes vessels and read about a great many of them. There are models of vessels and just a lot to see. You can walk to the lowest point, the ships hull, and make your way to the top of the ship, the deck. Its awesome!
Awesome old freighter turned into a museum for shipping on the Great Lakes. Really interesting displays and artifacts, including one of the lifeboats from the Edmund Fitzgerald
very interesting and it is self guiding which I love
Great history and seeing how a they lived and worked on the Great Lakes.
Very nice display. Really interesting to see a freighter from the inside
Interesting hour or so to walk around on a self guided tour. Just remember this is an old ship, and parts of the tour is outside, so I might suggest you do it in a dry day when it is not too windy! Honestly wish I had done this about 10 years ago when I was here last!
Definitely worth seeing, especially if you're a fan of the big lake freighters!
This museum is amazing. Very well kept. Well organized and the displays are incredible
Hi Wife and I enjoyed the tour Expect a couple hours to walk if you want to see all the very cool stuff from all the ships
Great museum. There guide map could have been done better though. Takes about an hour to get through.
