REVIEWS OF Western Development Museum (WDM) - Saskatoon IN Saskatoon

Steve Penner

It's been a while since my last visit. Great spot!

Colby Munshaw

Awesome place to visit with the kids on a cooler day. Always see something new every time we go! We did a nutcracker scavenger hunt this time and it kept the kids eyes open and engaged.

Stewart Addley

Well laid out very im formative worth the money and I will go back next time in Saskatoon

Ashish Tiwari

An exciting place full of historical insights on the provincial history of Saskatchewan. Kids can have so much fun in there through various displays and interactive activities.Great experience.

Drew Brown

Great place. Love the new upgrades.

MikE PARTYKA

Great place to spend a day with kids. Always fun looking around for everyone.

Kendall Goossen

Loved it. They have a whole town under the roof, with boardwalks and everything. You can explore all you want. The cafe is good too. It's quite quiet during the day. They have a nice machinery shed too, with some old equipment. They've restored an old railcar, and they have a replica soddie. An interesting exhibit on the changes brought by electricity to rural Saskatchewan as well. "Oh they're looking at Frank's new combine!" Apparently you can rent it for weddings as well. Great for school groups.

Vanessa H

Very educational and interesting. All inside so it's good for a cold and/or rainy day. Not just cars and airplanes. A lot about prairie living, I found the sod house to be very interesting.

Legolas

You can see a lot of attention has been put into this museum. You just have to experience here in person, the words can’t describe this incredible place.

Shane Digness

This is a great place to take your family for a look at our history. It's especially great during the Festival of Trees. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Corey Herod

I love exploring our western prairie history in an interactive way. The setup as a small prairie town was fun to explore. Some to see for all ages.

Kristal Brechin

We were gifted a yearly family membership and have visited twice, the second time was when the Model Train Show was on. My 3 year old loved it! It was very well set up and so many things to see. Can't wait to come again!

Michael Woelk

Great place with interesting exhibits and stories. It's also available for events and their catering staff make good food and have a nice hall to host out of. The main Street makes a beautiful backdrop.

jason

I took my daughter to see the Festival of Trees, which was awesome, but also spent some time exploring the museum. It was very interesting seeing the museum thru the eyes of 7 year old. A must see for families!!

Joshua Morris

Interesting especially if your past highschool. Good to keep up with the times

chronofanz

This museum contains exhibits relating to European migration to Saskatchewan in the early 20th century. A recreation of a main street in a small Canadian town in the west, with shops like banks, pharmacies, and a railway station are featured. The exhibits impressed upon us the hardships experienced by these settlers, such as living in houses made of sod and living through blizzards.

Kristen Holmes

I went to a wedding there and it was an amazing place to visit for the whole day. Great for photos, and for exploring. Food was good, atmosphere was great, and people were very friendly.

Sydney Neu

I’ve come here often and always enjoy getting to look at the buildings and different exhibits. My most recent trip was with work, and I find that the WDM is good for all ages. I’ve never been to their restaurant, but it is always busy and smells amazing. Will update when I eat there!

clinton mcmillan

Go for breakfast and check the museum out it's worth the time

Febin Stephen

Came to this place to know about the historical importance of this place. Was very informative. They have made a small town inside the museum. Very interesting. Makes you feel like you are in the past. There’s couple small theatres. The one which kids would love is the display of trains. There an actual cp engine and many other older engines on display. There are two miniature moving train displays which is lovely. My son just loves the train displays and I kept going back there. It was my 5th visit today. Another half of the museum has vi gage cars on display. Beautiful. It’s a must go place if you have kids who love train and for yourself to travel back to the past.

gord fox

Been there for a couple of weddings, a couple of fundraisers, and with a school tour a time or two. Highly recommended by yours truly. Lots of interactive displays, a gift shop, a restaurant, and even an opportunity to purchase some old fashioned candy.

Laura Carolina

Thorough and well set-up, re-created town with period items displayed. Plus sections on indigenous peoples, vintage vehicles, farm machines and canola. It's good when a museum's interactive displays actually work, and these do. I spent three hours and took my time to read the panels.

George Hancock

Kids always like coming but it would be nice if the 4 branches shared some displays so there was more varying content.

Colin Arlt

It was fun. I just feel like it sugar coats alot of history. That it doesn't share alot about the struggles first Nations people went through.

Theresa Q

A great place to learn about Saskatchewans history. They also offer fun exhibits for all ages.

Jayden Martens

The sights, smells, and sounds are what keep me coming back to the WDM. When you walk down the streets of boomtown you feel like a pioneer. I would like more engaging and interactive content; it would keep the kids (and me!) more interested.

M S

Nifty Historical museum! They have a cute little cafe to eat at, and an old fashioned picture booth among many other attractions. Super affordable as well!

Cindy Bare

Great place to visit. We learned a lot. Very nicely laid out and well worth the trip.

Jack Bannock

Id support the WDM but since they have the vax card thing. I wont be going there again. Waste of money

Cheyenne Steffen

An amazing place! It looks just like the main street of a 1910 era town. You can go into the buildings where there are displays and info about the time. There is a cafe that has excellent and inexpensive food. It's a great place for a family outing.

Randy Robert

This is a wonderful museum that does a great job of telling the history of this part of the world. It includes agriculture, early life in small towns through its Boomtown examples. A very nice restaurant and gift shop complete the experience.

Don Cook

The WDM is a great place to take visitors to build an understanding of how SK became the place it is today. It's also a great place for Saskatoonian's to spend some nice family time together. The Cafe serves great homestyle food.

Steven Njaa

The Train Show was awesome. Lots of neat trains from scale models to Lego trains and townships. The clubs were very helpful and able to answer lots of questions. Lots for kids and adults to do even when no event is scheduled; activities, games, educational videos. Lots of fun each time we go. If you are planning on going more in the future ask about a membership, they are very reasonable.

Igor Petrenko

A must visited place, if you want to learn about the history of Saskatchewan and dive into the atmosphere of small prairie town. It has the full-size old western street under the roof depicting the life in 1900s, there is a real steam train, a lot of old school cars and agricultural devices. Come with your kids, and they will not be disappointed ;)

Jason Macza

I hid in the old time dentist office until they closed and then opened the glass case and took care cavities with the hand drill. Also....ether

Diego Martinez Marin

Great place to take the little ones and very affordable.

Chad M

From Winnipeg. This museum is 10x better than the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. It has actual artifacts from the formation of the region. Lots of amazing and interesting old technology that formed the province. The replica of an early 1900's boom town was very cool and well laid out. This museum has a ton of exhibits and things to see. I have been to museums around the world and I was pleasantly surprised that this museum would rank well anywhere I've been in Canada, Europe, or Asia.

Jessica Croes

Very interesting. You learn a lot about the history of Saskatchewan. It's made interactive. You can sit in old cars, walk through the fun house and listen to the stories of people while you learn their history.

J Spence

Things are always changing it is great atmosphere for people of all ages. Also boomtown cafe you can't beat the food or prices. I truly love the WDM!

Michael Doell

Awesome feeling and smell, gives you the calm of life as it used to be.

Jack Adams

Unique experience. The atmosphere created when you walk into a Prairie Street all under one roof

Adam Thiessen

Well maintained museum. Clean, spacious, well lit, cheap admission price. Lots of great quality items donated and displayed at the museum.

Siena MacPherson

have always loved going to the WDM over the years

Haiku Dave

A really good place to enjoy some history! Boom Town is great, there’s lots to see & learn, and it’s all very interesting. I like that it’s not just a museum, they host other events/exhibits as well, like that science thing I went to & the history of video games! Love seeing all the old cars too, & the model trains!

Thomas J.

Far better than expected. Highly recommended for the nerdy traveler.

mason

food was affordable. History is interesting. Giftshop had a weird hat. I like weird hats. I bought it.

Jon Poulin

Western Development Museum is a large place showcasing Trains, older automobiles and technology, and some creepy animatronics. They have people that do blacksmithing, who can take old school dress up photos and a cafe. There are varied and interesting events that are put on throughout the year. One such event is the festival of trees where Christmas trees and gingerbread houses are impressively decorated with various themes and are used to raised money for charity. Price of entry was $10 and they have an extensive gift shop. I recommend checking it out throughout the year.

Scott Lepp

Kids enjoy it in general but we often go for the special displays like toy trains or the Eaton's window display. Still fun and interesting to tour the rest each time we go!

Isabel Fuentes Aguilar

Not really the best museum I’ve ever visited. They have a curious seasonal Christmas market, maybe the best of it. Staff is kind.

Claudia Guerra

Incredible place for all, children and adults alike. The experience to visit this all town the way it used to be, with it's authentic, stores, things, and vehicles, is amazing. The staff is very friendly and for only 10 dollars you can visit the museum for two days so you don't miss anything. The parks is really big, with a small part outdoors. It really feels like a travel in time, wine the first pioneers arrived to Saskatoon, 'til the the modern days. There are a lot of interactive expositions for the kids, and everyone. You can expect to see many old cars and trains. Overall, it is a lovely place you cannot miss if you visit Saskatoon.

Horst Meyer

very nice museum. you can learn a lot from the past.

M Stone

Wonderful museum showcasing historical Saskatchewan. Must see museum stop in Saskatoon.

Mark Sugar

Legendary Western Development Museum in Saskatoon is always a pleasure to DJ here. Great venue! Been coming since I was a kid.

Joseph Villeneuve

Great setup, lots of stuff to see. Would like more infos about some of the mannequins, especially the doctor. The gift shop is also very nice, worth a vistit.

Katie Salmers

Amazing. Such a cool experience! We went as a group from work with our families and we had a great time. There’s a real blacksmith working in Boomtown and I feel like they’re always adding to and changing the displays.

Gerald Williams

History, farm equipment, cars, nostalgia, or just lunch. Whatever your interest this museum has a suitable collection to keep your interest. Far more extensive than I had anticipated. And the cafe served a great egg salad sandwich and cup of coffee.

Brett McLain

Great place to take young children when you have nothing else to do in the winter time (or inclement weather summer days). An annual pass for two adults (children under 6 are free) is only $60 and that gets you free entrance to multiple events throughout the year (i.e. festival of trees, heritage days, etc.). Absolutely worth it.

Fibu The Explorer

I was here 2015 and I am so excited to bring my partner here. We both get a student discount, so if you are a student bring your ID to get a student price. Most exhibits are closed because of Covid-19. But he still enjoyed he’s visit and because he doesn’t know what he missed. We’ll come back when everything is open.

Christine Myers

Fantastic museum with an ever changing line up of events and displays. Well worth the money. The diner is pretty decent as well!

Michael Benko

Love this place, have visited many times and seen some new displays almost every time. It's surprising how many people have lived their whole life in Saskatoon and never even been here. Even had a Christmas party there last year and it was lots of fun with a scavenger hunt to run around and find things all over boomtown. Gives you a nice little taste of what it would have been like to visit a "main street" back in the early settler days, and as you move through the rest of the museum it progresses through the decades in a rather interesting way.

ImPurpl3

I absolutely love this place! It has a great western atmosphere and experience. Very educational for all age groups. I love to go to this place every year and would definitely recommend coming here with the family!

Ryan Pattullo

We spent the better part of a day going through all the exhibits here. Many interactive displays, and tons of information to absorb about days gone by. Enjoyed a great lunch in the restaurant as well. Highly recommend stopping here if history is an interest - you won't be disappointed.

Kim Horan

Wonderful place to wander and explore

Joey Gumulcak

It was fun not enough cheese itz though

Jonathan Katsiris

"Boom Town" at it's finest. The WDM in Saskatoon has a well-curated collection of nostalgia that impresses. It's quite the experience to see the humble beginnings of our great province and to see some of the tangible exhibits that have been preserved for generations to come! I frequent the WDM with my family throughout the year and would recommend becoming a member and take advantage of the many benefits. Whether you are a Saskatoon resident or visiting from out of town, the Western Development Museum is a must-see to appreciate just how far we have come as a society.

Andrea Enns

Staff was friendly and helpful. Wide selection of historic items.

Drew Reed

History is fun and interesting at the WDM.

Ashley H

When we attempted to go, the parking lot attendent (an older gentleman that was shaking his head at us as we entered the lot) told us it was going to be packed and that we should leave. When we asked why we couldn't come in, if it was a private event, he mumbled something about pioneers, and said if we insisted on going in, we had to park on the very far end of the parking lot, even though there were several spots open. My travel companions were very upset, and the kids were disappointed. Obviously not very welcoming.

Chantel W

Love it, we come often. Always friendly staff, clean and the kids never get tired of walking the streets and learning about all the history. And the restaurant is absolutely fantastic great food, awesome staff. Always a positive experience!

Chris Bernardi

This place was amazing. So many cool exhibits. The venue is great and it's so informative

Randy Pauls

Great place to go with kids on a cold winter day. The family membership is definitely worth it.

F Rawlyk

It is a great tourist visit or family stop. There is a main street filled with little buildings from ~1910. There are old tractors and cars and lots of room for kids to run around. I always like going during the festival of trees around Christmas too, but they put on a lot of different events. A fun visit.

David O

This is a very charming museum. The local front street here is quite nicely laid out and there is many informative plaques and signs throughout the museum. The size of the train engines and exhibits gives you a realistic idea of what it would have been like to interact with these pieces back in the day. The staff are so friendly and share wonderful stories and pieces of knowledge when asked. Its not the most up to date place but that all adds to the charm that is the WDM. Events can be held here and I have seen wedding receptions and galas booked here.

Kevin Goyer

Just a heads up there was a waiting listing they say we visited. Waited 35 minutes before we could get in. Had a great lunch there while we waited.

Charity Krahn

An old favourite, and it feels pretty safe with the open spaces and regular cleaning taking place.

June deDood

Excellent! So much more than you expect. Check out the Doukhobor choir, the voices are beautiful.

Loretta M

Had a great visit, love the Eatons Christmas display! ???? something for everyone...but...should lose that creepy clown in the 'fun house'! Scared my little granddaughter ???? Other than that, great family entertainment when it's -40°C !

Rochelle Lobo

Edit: just thought id add this as an afterthought. The WDM predominantly focuses on human history of Saskatoon post colonization. Any mention of indigenous people or impact were few, and seemed like an afterthought at this place. For what was included in there it was well done. But certainly a one-sided history of boomtown from a colonist perspective. Several exhibits closed due to the pandemic but overall worth going to. The Boomtown cafe was pretty decent as well. I had the boomtown breakfast which was good. The saskatoon berry pie was undercooked which was super disappointing. Overall 3 stars for this place.

Mitesh Yadav

I believe the pictures should say it all. Nicely done, wonderful portrayal of the era, a beautiful setting. If you're around its a must visit.

Tara-Lynn Black

Very cool place with lots of history. Set aside a good few hours for this place!

Rafael Alexander Córdova Uvidia

The WDM is one of the most well orgsnized and exciting museums I've ever seen. It has everything from the old west including a street with old houses, businesses, a school, a bank, etc. Which portray the tools people used to work and live. They also have a car exhibit and a really rich collection of agricultural machinery used in the prairies. Sfter having breakfsdt in the thematic restaurant. I loved to watch the history of a family which is just moving to the prairies and their progress until they can buy a wooden house and their children get married. Only the beginning is a projection, for the rest you have to ealk your way through history! If I ever go back to Canada, I will definitely visit the WDM again.

Ben Schmidt

Great staff, interesting place.

Brian Kinash

I regularly attend meetings (AGM's, seminars, Christmas parties, etc) at this location, reasonable rates, and great food. Great little museum too! My kids love it!

Trevor H

Love the museum and the events they put on but those moronic parking attendants... It's one thing to guide you to a parking spot but it is ridiculous that they'll STAND IN THE PATH OF YOUR VEHICLE. If they were my employees I would reprimand them for putting themselves in the PATH of a moving car. Occupational health and safety need to be notified. Show me what spot and stand SAFELY aside.

Bob Sterling

1st time in the wdm S'toon. Very interesting

Jason T

Great look at Saskatchewan's history with lots to see and do. Kids love it and want to go back. Boom town street is done amazingly well. Visitors to the city and locals should check it out. Been to a few weddings and events as well and they have all been great at the WDM.

Melissa H

Very covid safe. Always enjoy the festival ????

Ruxandra Dranga

A walk through history! I’ve loved visiting this museum every time I was in Saskatoon for work (every 4-5 years)! Would be great for family-time.

The Rogue Less Travelled

Amazing old town street with shops and services of old.... great place to take out of town guests and kids. Nice cafe inside too.

Ryan Toxopeus

Cool replicas of frontier style buildings, an impressive collection of old tractors and cars, and more modern displays as well (I felt old seeing Power Rangers at the end and realizing that was 25 years ago.

bakhtawar 1

i loved the exhibits! super interesting and fun :)

kathy wallwork

We went to a wedding here which was a beautiful setting. Afterwards we were allowed to walk around. The museum is quite impressive. Our teenagers had a good time too.

Roda Mejia (CutiePics Productions)

Super interesting place. Kids enjoy it as well us parents. I can't help clicking my camera. :)..Still with the SD card.

Sherri McEwen

Love WDM. However, with COVID, 80% of the museum was closed. A bit disappointing for the kiddos. Cheap entry fee, but we didn't stick around long.

Hannes Kummala

Very interesting place to visit. Nice, old and comprihensive town. Development in farming equipments is well shown.

Mike B

I took a group of Maori students here to learn a bit about the history of SK. It’s unfortunate that Wanuskewin is under construction because they had wanted to learn about history of the Indigenous people of this area. We all had the same critique and that is that this museum is really a glorification of colonization with virtually zero acknowledgement of the harms that were done to Indigenous people. It’s good, for what it is...but they could improve it by telling a more complete story.

Nathan Riess

Always a wonderful experience. Great place to spend time with the family.

Jason Neufeld

Great family tradition going here.

Jonathan Russell

Good time. There were a lot of volunteers there on the Sunday I went and they were amazing. Everything was as great as I remembered it.

Trevor Bennett

If there were more stars it'd be about 11

Katie Pfeifer

Have loved coming here since I was a child, fascinating displays and so much to learn. Great place for kids to run around and explore.

sean tseng

A great place. Gives me what it feels like 100 years ago.

Stephen Maryland

Be sure to check out the annual train show. These are some very devoted people to their hobby! I wrote more initially but Google Maps erased it when I got a phone call.

Andrea Martineau

Happy to see WDM still diligent about COVID protocol to keep the public safe. There is a person at the front desk ensuring capacity is not exceeded, masks and barriers for staff, distancing signs and plenty of sanitizer stations throughout, and a quick volunteer/staff member going through regularly to wipe down frequently touched door knobs and surfaces in the exhibits.

Caroline

This is a fantastic museum with a lot to see and learn! I spent 2 hours there with my 2 kids and will certainly go back as this was their 3rd visit and they want to go again. The exhibitions are very detailed and realistic. I enjoyed my visit a lot.

J Crowd

Couldn’t possibly say enough good things about this museum. Something for everyone. Huge. Fun to walk around and explore. Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Great gift shop!

Michael Ehman

This place is great for photos. The trains are a highlight for me. They also host some really great events like the motorcycle ride for dad. I have not been to the threshing show at wdm since I was a kid but plan to go this fall.

Vidit Patel

Visited the Western Development Museum during Festival of Trees and it was really beautiful. There were a large variety of trees decorated with different themes. Overall it's a good place to visit if you're in Saskatoon!

Akarin Asavajaru

Fantastic local museum!! Lovely vibes :)

sharaf sadat

This place opens your mind about how life was like 100 years ago in Saskatoon. It has everything you need to know about the life in Western Canada in general. In this museum you don’t need interpreter to explain to you and it’s for all ages.

Jesse Greenwood

We have always loved the WDM and it is without question one of our son's favourite places to go. It is a ton of fun, and helps to provide a lot of insight into one perspective of our local and provincial history. Our biggest criticism of the WDM remains however that there is little to no mention of the roles or lives of the First Nations, Metis people, or any other non-Europeans in the development of Saskatchewan. They are left as a footnote in our provincial and regional history, when they played and continue to play far greater roles. In other words, an examination of the historiography of the museum's depictions and explanations reveals an exceptional eurocentric bias.

Granny Nanny

This would be my go-to place with kids if I lived in Saskatoon. The entire building is full of interactive and interesting exhibits including an entire old-time main street!! The Grandkids loved it. They could burn energy, learn about settlement in the Prairies and have fun without having to be outside in the elements. I have heard there is an updated main street coming and I am stoked to take the Grands there again the next time we are in Saskatoon. Great place to visit!!

Victor Quijada-sawitsky

This place never gets old, lol. The content is mostly farm machinery and a street walk through old Saskatoon. It’s well worth the stop. They always host a large Christmas Tree exposition starting sometime in November!

Jas Nao

Had a really great time! Spent about 4 hours and didn't get through all the way so definitely coming back. The dolls and mannequins are a bit creepy though.

Paul Ellerman

Our son loved the indoor Boom Town. A large variety of vehicles from different time periods. The "fire truck" was pretty cool. He also really enjoyed the history of video games exhibit.

Connie King

1st time here. Place was amazing. Loved to see how the prairies started. Lots of tractors from our home town of Hamilton Ontario. Glad we came for a visit.

Mona Shehzad

We loved it.it's best trip with family. If you are visiting Saskatoon never miss it.

Matt Thompson

Interesting place, always something new to see. Was there for a banquet. Staff was amazing with my dietary restrictions. Kudos to them for being awesome

Fran Armstrong

One of the best museums we have seen. We now understand why people from Saskatchewan are so hard working!

Michal Kubo

If feels like an travel through time. There are houses reconstructed inside, including an old train station. Must see if you wonder how life in prairies was like long time ago and how it changed till present. Another section has a good collection of old cars. Parking is free. There is a cafe and museum shop.

Akshay Chauhan

The name might not be something amazing but this is a really interesting museum. Museum staff is also extremely nice. There are visually inspiring things on display, especially if you are an artist or designer.

Maureen Tait

A great place to take the family.

Lindsay Staunton

Been to the development museum a few times but went again with family that were visiting and they loved it! The food is good in the restaurant. If I could say anything it would be to make it more affordable for family's. 27 for a ticket is a bit too much in my opinion. I'd probably go every couple of months if it was more reasonable. Everytime I go I discover something new.

Chris Postnikoff

Such a fantastic experience to take my 5 year old to. We visited during the pandemic so several sites were shut down or limited but I still got to share Saskatchewan culture and heritage with my child, letting him see the same sites I saw 35 years ago when I was his age.

Lorene T

Came to try the Boomtown Cafe. Food was good and cheap, but the cafe is quite small and very loud with even a few people in it. It's cafeteria style, so you order your food, buy drinks, and then they bring your food to your table. There is no table service, so no refills on drinks. The chairs are all antique wooden ones which is cute, but not comfy.

Arind Karmakar

Lots of things to see. Well laid out. Great prices and a great gift shop. Great for all ages.

Sourav Gangopadhyay

Well it's a museum and it's nice. Great accessible location. Huge parking lot. City's history can be send here. I love the boomtown here. It's a great little place to be in town. Kid friendly.

Reggie Smith

I buy an annual family pass here every year. The staff is lovely (you have to check out the blacksmith shop when it is open), the facilities are very well taken care of and there is tons to look at. They often change some sponsored exhibits and often host events so return trips can have new things to offer. The café inside is also delightful and offers great fresh food and is blended right into the old houses on the street. If you're in Saskatoon and interested in the history of Western Development then this place is a must see.

SHEHZAD احمد Awan

Its an excellent place to spend quality time to learn some history. I have never seen a place like thus with original settings of early 1900s. Walking in that Street takes you back in history. I would say this is the best Western cultural Museum I have ever seen. Many models of early days Carts, cars, and Steam engines are amazing to see. 10/10✅❤

Melissa MacDonald

One of our favorite places to go! We love the attention to detail, polite staff, delicious food and gift shop! It's well worth it to get a season pass!

Steve Martin

My family enjoyed the entire experience; the indoor replica of an old 1910 Saskatchewan town with stores and offices was both informative and interesting. Following a families journey from Europe to the harsh but ultimately rewarding life in the prairies was well done. The fact that everything was indoor was great.

Lin Kreisz

So much to look at! Definitely got my $12 worth. Could easily spend 2 hours here. There's a cafe too but we didn't try it.

kur dee

Good visit. Took my 3yr old, unfortunately she's slightly traumatized from the manequins hiding in all the dark rooms, especially the one laying in bed not moving. I guess I should have waited till she was a bit older. She kept saying 'I scared' and putting her hand over her heart lol. Some day I would love to see an updated pioneer town that reflects the real prairie atmosphere of bright sky's and wind. Super bright LED's in a natural color speculum or skylights in the roof across the pioneer street. Something that might help take some of the dark, dead, ghostly atmosphere from the visit.

Shelley Ward

great learning experience, lots of fun!

Matt B

One of my favourite museums in Canada. The "boomtown" theme (historic main street recreation inside of the museum) is one-of-a-kind, and provides an unparallelled hands-on learning experience. Great for family visits, or browsing with small groups.

Laura-Jean Bernhardson

I've been coming here since the 70's. So much nostalgia and fun to bring my family every year when we visit Saskatoon.

Kamalakanta Behera

one of the best place to visit in Saskatoon , I had awesome time there, I am thankful to the Lady who was there at admissions section did allow us to visit inside though it was only 15min to closing time.

Thierry Deux

I go to the WDM every few years it seems like. I can't believe how good it is every time I go. It's always updated and there's usually something going on. My 2.5 year old had a blast and I'm sure he'll find different things to be interested in everytime he goes. Excellent experience.

Wontack Song (송원택)

My 3rd visits already. My little boy enjoys here, everytime he comes! Good to spend time.

Shawn K

Good place for kids to run around on a rainy day. The season pass is reasonably priced. They definitely ignores the indigenous population and their contribution prior to European settlement and since. Food in the cafe is decent.

Sean B.

A good place to visit, but not evenings during the Festival of Trees - it's too crowded to enjoy. Get someone to give you a guided tour for the best experience of SK's history. The gift shop is expensive.

Kimberly Kay

My sisters bf had the idea for us all to check out this museum while we were visiting There are cute little makeshift strollers for kids from that time era and a lot of interactive exhibits Bring some comfy shoes because there is quite a lot of walking While we were there the car exhibit was showing, awesome display and a really nice big space to give everything its own area The gift shop is overpriced, but what gift shop isnt.

Claire Yvonne (Bang Up Productions)

We hold our annuities Cultural Days there and this year, 2020, we had to take it virtual. The museum was very accommodating and we were able to hold an amazing virtual event! They have a beautiful museum with so much history! But they do also hold events!

Samuel Travis

Historic. If you're looking for a place to spend a day visiting in Saskatoon this is it. Detailed and accurate information on what it would have been like in Saskatchewan 100+ years ago and all presented in a very appealing way that is suitable for all ages. Also has a great cafe I would highly recommend grabbing some food at before or after your trip.

Allraj1

Just the worst. They hate customers

We went for the festival of trees, I love how they had more to see this year, such as more random displays, the penguin, the snowmen.. Plus the facepainting and the characters were awesome! It wa sso busy though we didn't really get a chance to look at anything! Maybe try to spread it out over 2 weeks instead of one..

Abby Willett

Wonderful exhibit showcasing the settling of Saskatchewan. Really enjoyed the old Boomtown, classic cars, tractors and trains. Really well put together and engaging!

Carmen Gamble

We have a two year membership, and are there almost every weekend. Our two year old loves it! The museum has a bit of everything - trains, farm equipment, a heritage town. It really is a great place to spend a day with family!

W James

Very interesting museum featuring 1910 boomtown main-street stores and lots of other sask history. 2 hours wasn’t enough for us but it was end of day. May be back.

Jim Pattison

The wdm is an awesome look into Saskatchewan's past. They have a super cool town set up inside the building with a blacksmith shop, barber's, laundry, prison and so much more. One part of the museum is dedicated to old cars that volunteers have refurbished and worked on. There are also tractors that were used in the early days of machine farming.

Randy Harvey

Food was great. Asked for table to be cleaned...Still full of syrup, and seat back was sticky. Was quite busy at the time. Everything else was good.

Luz Cerda (DominicanosEnSaskatchewan)

I went there for the Saskatoon Engineering Society. The place was good. And the food was awesome as well. The meeting was great it was my first time at the Western Development Museum. I have to go back to see all the things that they have in the museum.

Cody Wilde

Boom town is the place to be. Quite possibly one the greatest museums in Canada if not the world. But be WARNED: Don't mess around with the blacksmith, unless you're looking to catch steel and want reenact a scene from Red Dead Redemption 2 (if you know what I mean). Minus 1 Star on the added account of dry cookies and lack of muffins to be found ANYWHERE for breakfast. Make sure to visit the gift shop on your way out.

Emryssa Innes

We love the little Boomtown Diner! The prices are fantastic and the food is just as good. The workers are friendly and the atmosphere is quaint. We will be back!

James Kan

I was bringing my customers to this local museum where they are interested in. According to my customer said, here has shown a totally different culture between SK and ON. Somehow, I am love to describe some history stories about SK. I wish people who come to visit would be happy and learn something. The most amazing idea is here has kept some historical items since it was made. So almost everything in the show room is real but you do not want to try. Great experience with my customers in April, 2019.

Jessica DeWitt

Good event venue. Fun and interesting exhibits. The Curator Liz Scott and others are doing incredible work to diversify the museum’s collection and update their community involvement. One room for improvement: the catering.

Kayla Jean

Many displays not open currently with covid restrictions but nevertheless was pleasant experience as usual. Lots to see !

Leland Guillemin (Lee)

Wonderful place to take a little one that loves tractors, trains, and vehicles. Lots of space, and the staff sanitize regularly!

Ester Divasivad

Really well done. We went with our extended family and I was really impressed with the immersive experience. I've been to Heritage Park in Calgary, a favorite for us, and although very similar, the experience was different being all indoors, so one can visit it year round. The cafe is so reasonably priced and the staff so sweet. (The special that day was $1.95 for apple berry crisp!)

Mike Diakuw

Such a wide array of things to do depending on the season. If you have kids, gets family pass right now. Easy bike here from anywhere along the Meewasin. Too cold? Too far? Lots of free parking.

GENIE GROUP

Good place for families Nice displays good upkeep you need to have atleast 3 hours to see everything and there are quite a lot of different types of displays. One on site restaurant as well serving good quality food. You can spend half a day here if you plan to see the museum and have food as well. Nice souvenir shop. Overall excellent experience.

Megan Milton

This museum had no mention of the 2 most interesting things to ever happen in the prairies, Louis Riel Rebellion and the Canadian Commonwealth Federation. So, google the Regina Maifesto and the Red River Rebellion prior to going because both things are very cool and give more context the exhibits on the great depression and early settlement and Metis culture in Saskatchewan. It’s such a huge loss to leave those things out. They seem to have gone to great pains to not mention anything bad the settlers to indigenous peoples. Or explain that a socialist movement created by farmers who’d grown tired of starving in the dust bowl are the reason we have socialized medicine. Both are just so cool and are amazing examples of Saskatchewan’s impact on Canadian history. That’s pretty normal for a Canadian museum to be full of propaganda, but this one was particularly bad. You can find all the unflattering Canadian history in a glass case in the lobby on your way out.

Amber K-D

It's a nice place to bring your kids for an outing! Step back in time, visit the cafe and enjoy your day.

Eric Benz

This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the WDM does a great job as a building housing historical items. The presentation is well laid out and the detail is quite equal. No one specific exhibit seems to have gotten drastically more attention than any other. That is not easy with so many items. I come from a museum/art gallery background and for the location, demographic and detail, this is well worth a stroll.

Rowwie McKeown

I was here for a wedding, and it was fantastic. Unlike most of my friends, I didn't grow up here so I'd never been to the museum. We were able to peruse "Boomtown" and the rest of the museum until 9pm which was great. My friends showed me around and we had an amazing time. It's hokey in the best possible way, it's totally charming, interesting, and informative. I'm from Vancouver, our heritage park is the Burnaby Heritage Museum, it's outdoors and functional, it's beautiful, the are no creepy mannequins, there real people, but the Western Development Museum has charm. I loved it.

Sahar Salimi

one of the best heritage museums, huge! lots of cars and old farming equipment. The town has everything you can think of. my favorite part was the history of Saskatchewan told following a family's experience. You cannot get bored here!

Cameron Wright

A fantastic look at the past! Easily spend a few hours checking it out Very reasonable family admission rate.

Matt Novack

A Saskatoon classic. We were in the hall for an event. Great spot. Tasty supper, even had gluten free options labeled including gravy. Could walk around the museum for a bit during the event.

Patty Clampitt

We enjoyed our visit very much. We will definitely be back, because we weren't able to see all of the exhibits.

Matthew Murray (ComicMattMurray)

Attended the video game display, family had a great time. We enjoyed it so much we thought we would buy a membership the next day and plan to go back repeatedly.

Lois Riley

Delightful to Discover ! Inviting Historical Displays and Buildings.. See Hall of Fame upstairs and Vintage Vehicles collection. Tasty food in restaurant. Popular place to enjoy Heritage days. The museum needs a new photographer to take pictures of costumed people.

MrToast72

Very interesting time at the museum! Loved seeing the old timey stuff there! Plus the staff is very friendly!

Michelle King

I love this place. As a child I looked forward to field trips with my school every year and Boomtown remains one of my favourite childhood memories. I have been to a few weddings here and they are spectacular. The Festival of trees is also an amazing event that they host. Last year we started the first annual Metis days celebration and I looked forward to many more at WDM.

Beth Berg

Lots to see. Well maintained. Could spend 3 - 5 hours exploring all the rooms. Coffee shop closed at 4 pm.

Cruz Lane

i have been many times great place to visit with the young or old something for everyone great gift shop and little café. love getting photos of the family in older cloths just a really cool place.super place to go in all weather ...it's inside love it

Jennifer Kidd

Great staff super friendly

Raman Singh

Great place for all ages !!

Wendy F

Great pace to visit if you like cars, trains and history. I enjoyed the stores in the town and so did my 12 year old daughter. Definitely worth a visit.

Suzanna Burch

I was born and raised in Saskatoon and have fond memories of the museum. Every summer I return from New York and make visiting the museum a required stop. I always discover something new to see and do. This is a Canadian treasure!

Wayne Sarich

We go annually. The festival of trees is a must see! Elf on the shelf was around the museum as well for pictures. Fun was had by all.

Oliver M

Very cool and unique experience! Perfect to learn about Saskatchewan. Well laid out and interesting indoor town. Whole family enjoyed the visit!

Shayne Hardy

Awesome place took my 2 young boys and they were amazed at all the cool old stuff

Gary Betker

Lots of very good historical information and displays, the boomtown stores are very interesting to go through.

Melissa Code

We loved this museum!!! It was phenomenal. My children ages 11, and 8 loved exploring the museum. There was so much for them to see and do and the cost included 2 days worth of admission!!

jessica mosure

It is a great place to immerse young children in another time, place, and (in their eyes) another world. It gets their minds and eyes working, asking questions, and experiencing things that may have long been forgotten. And not just young kids, it's a great experience for all ages. Always welcoming staff that provide a comfortable and fun experience.

Candace Schwindt

I attended a wedding in SASK hall and it was absolutely beautiful. There is so much space in there, and everyone got to tour through Boomtown as well. My 5 year old loved seeing all the old things and they are well separated into the different buildings of Boomtown. There is a scavenger hunt that can be done via text which was fun for a lot of the adults.

Tony Grichnik

Truly amazing museum, with a very innovative way of presenting four generations of life in Saskatchewan! Great accessibility for the disabled too.

Rae Rees

Wonderful museum! Highly recommended visiting it if you are in the area.

J. G.

Amazing! Was in Saskatoon looking for something different to do. My travel companion suggested this. Didn’t think I would like it. I was wrong. This place was a blast!! Can’t say enough good things about it to friends visiting Saskatoon. Really enjoyed walking through the exhibit and seeing how far we have come. I learned a lot about the struggles of the people in those time. The tractor and cars exhibit was really cool and informative. I highly recommend visiting their pleasant staff and getting a ticket to the exhibit.

魔灵幻灭

It's a really great museum for kids and foreign visitors to know the history of Saskatchewan.

Google Girl

I love coming here, especially for the festival of trees, I have been going every year for over 30 years. What a great place with great memories! I also love the new additions they have made over the past few years!

Selina Ehr

Really neat place and not just for kids. I am 28 and still find it very interesting. Not something I would do often but once a year or so. We went on a Wednesday morning and I felt most of the interactive exhibits were not working or 'turned off'. They are also working on the dental office which is my fav so that was a bit disappointing (but not their fault) They are doing well during COVID to keep things open and accessible. If you haven't been, go! No matter what age. There is something for everyone. It's a great place to take kids too, quiet and educational with also being fun .

Cal Martin

Always a great place to go. Good place to take family and visitors. Nicely set up and very interesting. We there today for the Meewasin Tree planting ceremony.

Danny Janzen

Ordered breakfast to go as we were on our bicycles and wanted to have our meal outdoors, food was hot and delicious. We've always had a great experience at the Boomtown Cafe

Nanette Castelo

Loved this place. It is a city of its own. Felt like traveled back in time early 1900's. Depicted how people lived in Saskatchewan during those years. If you happen to visit Saskatoon. I higly recommend to visit this place.

simona cell

I was there recently for the Halloween event, and was having trouble breathing from all the dust. I don't normally have breathing problems, but I think it was because of all the people there, stirring up the dust. It really needs a good cleaning.

D C

I always visit at least yearly for the festival of trees, and occasionally other times with out-of-towners, etc. A very neat place that we are lucky to have. Great for craft fairs and events, including themed weddings.

sun rhodes

Nice place just to look at things. will be back

Shazia Anwar

Tickets more expensive than reasonable but definitely worth a visit.

Steve Morrison

What a neat place to walk through.

Darlene Arnett

We love all the exhibits. They bring back memories. We have farming background and really enjoyed the informative, relaxing walk. Thank you so much.

Doug Conley

Great museum with lots of historical displays and equipment

Tong Liu

Great museum, tons of interesting exhibits. Very few people were there even on weekends. Will definitely be coming back if I return to Saskatoon.

The Hershell

Wonderful presentation of the agriculture history of the area. Old cars, gift shop also good. At Christmas time nostalgic exhibit of old Eaton window decorations, highly recommend for old and young.

Jessica D

I had a great time visiting the Museum with my mom ( I grew up in Saskatoon) it was amazing to see all the changes and how the Museum is responding to incorporating history that was previously not included like our Indigenous history. Also loved the updated streets of Boomtown.

The Dard

Great place to go with the family. Lots to see while you walk thru. They have different events take place throughout the year. Offers lots to all sorts of interests.

Dan M

Features a great comprehensive overview of Saskatchewan history. Interesting place to take a walk through, but not a lot of repeat value.

George Hall

Wow! What an extensive collection of artifacts from Prairie history!! The complete main street of a town in 1910 is amazing. Then the giant farm stem engines and decades of exotic cars. A must see for everyone of all ages!

Alysha G

I have been to this museum many times, and I realize with COVID restrictions they are doing what they can to stay up and running, but was still saddened that a lot of the exhibits and shops inside boomtown were closed. It is such a big place and there is lots to see and explore, but you also miss seeing many things when these places inside are closed.

Sharon Kroeker

Wonderful this time of year, and got some gingerbread men also. Yum

TN

Astonishing!! A perfect display of very interesting history of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan altogether. Permission fees is very worth for what you see inside. Located within the city. Must visit

Chris Bell

I wish I took more pictures of the old Western town, is very fun! Even have a mystery that you can solve with the use I have a cell phone it is a text based mystery. I would recommend spending the extra couple dollars. It really adds to the entertainment value of the museum, they do have new displays. And they’re all displays are very well-maintained. Are usually go here at least once a year. If you have a chance always stop in the restaurant. They serve great food and their pie is amazing!

London Renée Johnson

What a great experience! Loved stepping back into time. You really need to see this place

Mark Forbes

Amazing place! I have never seen a town street inside a building! Interesting displays and my daughter enjoyed the interactive portions. Worth a visit if you pass through Saskatoon.

hanna sullivan

Very good place, I like how how it mentions the Spanish flu, I am wondering if anything would eventually be added with COVID 19

Lynn Beltrandi

Lots of visual artifacts to see in their proper setting ie: in an appropriate period establishment setting. Interesting facts on Saskatoon inventions.

Nathan Rheindel

It was pretty intriguing. Would like to see more of the indigenous people contributions to western development besides just powwow dance pictures

Roderick Davidson

Good place to learn about the history of Saskatoon an Saskatchewan! Restaurant inside the museum with good food at a reasonable price! Also there is an antique store with hats, shirts, collectables, spices, candy an other odds an ends!

Raelene Morin

I really enjoyed the different kinds of Christmas ????lights

jenna9156

Took three hours, was very impressed with everything about it

J Tinker

I've been here so many times! It never loses its charm. Inside the shops are magical. You get to take in the culture of times past. Don't forget to sign up at the front desk when paying for the mystery search! Plan to spend a couple hours here! And before you leave make sure to have a bite to eat inside the restaurant. The cinnamon buns are to die for. We even had our own personal horse ride around the grounds. Was a lot of fun!

Dave Rempel

This is a fantastic place to go to with the entire family no matter the age. There are so many interesting things to see and experience here. I remember coming to this place as a kid and loving it. I still do today. We really enjoyed our time and learned quite a bit of things from walking boom town.we also took in the old time photo session. That was really fun.

Char M

It was good to go again. Hadn't been in long time.

Jonathan Alyward

This was truly an amazing experience. I was here with Federated Co-op (FCL), as they had booked a private function for a group of us in saskatoon for manager training. I could have spent all day here. The information and preserved antiques are incredible. Opens your eyes to just how simple life was and how much things have evolved over time. This is a MUST see for anyone in the area, and If your not I would recommend making the trip. Cant wait to bring my family here to experience an amazing part of history.

Adrian Robson

The Western Development Museum conducts numerous training courses throughout the year. One of which is a Blacksmithing Course. I have been told that this course is in high demand and that spots are very limited. I first inquired about this program in July of 2016 and asked to be placed on the wait list for cancellations, which I was. I understand this was a wait list for just cancellations from the program, not a registration wait list but I was told I was put on a notification list as well so I would be notified when the actual registration opened up again for that winter. It turns out I was not put on that list, nor my brother who also was wanting to register. As a result we then missed out on the Blacksmithing Course that year, we were told nothing could be done about that. Not a big deal, we were patient and we asked then to be notified for the following year registration in October 2017. Time passed and my brother and I did get the notifications (emailed September 19, 2017) of how to register when the time comes. The Western Development Museum had chosen to use Picatic to handle registrations, instructions were included in the email. I did everything as instructed and filled out the form on Picatic, only to my surprise it did not work. Apparently Picatic doesn't hold your ticket, or registration in this case while you fill out the form for payment. So even though I had purchased two spots in the class for my brother and I, the transaction didn't go through because I didn't fill the form out fast enough. Then no notification or anything to let me know nothing went through. When I called The Western Development Museum to inquire about the situation they informed me that I was one of many with the same problem, and there was nothing they could do about it. I heard that same story last year, it's becoming a trend. They said they launched a formal inquiry with Picatic, but that's not going to help anyone registration is over. I was also told by The Western Development Museum that there is no wait list for registration so it doesn't matter if you've been waiting on cancellation lists for years, or you've just stumbled upon Blacksmithing a couple days ago and thought it would be "neat," their registration is the same as rush seating for a concert. So, it looks like my brother and I are on the cancellation wait list again for another year. With the price The Western Development Museum charges for this training course, combined with the demand and scarcity of available seats, it would lead a person to believe they would, or should, have a fair and reliable system in place to handle registration. This is far from true, therefore I give a single star for a rating. If anyone else would like to take the Blacksmithing Course through The Western Development I wish them the best of luck!

Marshall MacLeod

Very good variety in many categories from horse drawn and hand through steam, gas and diesel. Sod huts to wood stores and homes. Also, lots of daily use items.

Lindsey Mawson

Was fun looking and learning how they survived in the past

Kevin McFadyen

A very unique and interesting look into the history of the province. Even with COVID restrictions there is lots to explore and learn which for $12 entrance fee is more than with it for an afternoon of discovery. The little cafe is also worth checking out. I had the loaded omelette and it was one of the most filling breakfast meals I've had in a long time

Chase De Vylder

Boomtown is great! Would for sure recommend for all ages.

Julie Wong

Probably the most comprehensive history museum on development I've seen across the provinces. Large displays offering insights of life back then. Really enjoyed spending the afternoon here.

James Szwagierczak

Fantastic service, excellent exhibits even if some were closed because of covid 19

Canadutchie

You really gain a newfound appreciation for what your ancestors went through.

Kevin

Great place to take the kids. Boom town is fun to explore, the vehicles were fascinating to read about and look at, the trains were a hit, and take a journey through the past to remember the good and the bad! Young or old, this place has something for everyone!

Francine Armstrong

This is one big museum, or at least I would recommend taking it in small bits rather than all at once. There was so much history and so much to discover. The interactive nature of the museum was very engaging. I think the layout could be easier to maneuver as you have to back-track to get to other sections of the museum, rather than one flowing into the other. Definitely take a day, take in the fun of the whole place and prepare to learn a lot.

Jennifer Nunes

Love this museum. Especially during the Festival of trees. My favourite Christmas event in Saskatoon.

Dakota Gramiak

Kids and I always love it

Marcus Dyck

Pretty awesome spot! Boom town is awesome. Lots to see. The little house with the 2 way mirror is pretty beat to see the difference electricity made in the small prairie homes.

robert j campbell

Grt home 4 the antique car club.

Randy Roesler

You can spend the whole afternoon there. There are a lot of museums which have similar stuff. But still a good time. All indoor .. even in the dead of winter

Ayman ELSAYED

I like the museum for the ticket price. When there is a special display it's always an extra bonus. Loved the miniature train display (Highly recommended)

L Scher

Great place to visit and teach children about Saskatchewan’s history. Great restaurant inside so plan 2-3 hours for this fun adventure!

Louis Ihaza Mike

Its Just historically wonderful, I got to see houses, cars, horse carriage/chart etc in real life not in just some old wild west movie.

Jayne Collins

I waited 3 years to take my grandson to this museum. We finally got there this year and were grossly disappointed. When we attended there were approximately 2-3 classrooms of students on a field trip. These children were let loose to wander around on their own. They were unruly and extremely loud and obnoxious! Their presence took away from the experience completely. We couldn’t hear ourselves think!!!! The quiet little town with the chirping birds was missed. We couldn’t hear any of the exhibit recordings. It was total mayhem. While the teachers are responsible for the children, I feel the museum is responsible for not setting ground rules and standards for school visits. Learning should be done gathering in a quiet group at each exhibit and teacher explaining what they see. Sending children on a treasure hunt, unsupervised to run around on their own with no learning behind it all while totally destroying the experience of the public is just wrong. I was appalled!! My grandson was very upset as I had promised him an experience he would never forget. He is only 9 and was beside himself that the students were so incredibly rude. If a 9 year old noticed how awful it was then that speaks volumes.

Phil Winter

Great collection. Kids and adults of all ages will find something to enjoy here.

Eisha Gupta

Impressed with the breadth of vehicles they had. Also loved the entire experience of walking through the old timey street!!! Decided to check it out on a really hot day, with the fiancé and we actually really enjoyed it.

Del Bear

Totally interesting and they have food that is pretty good also

Joe Supra

Great place, lots to look at

Dan Fink

Just a read cool museum with very friendly staff. Great place to just wonder and go back in time and also a pretty decent cafe.

Tanith Wallebeck

Such a cool place! Entrance fee was reasonable and there was so much to see! We came for the Game Changers exhibit but were pleased to see so many other things as well!

Richard Head

I saw antiques from the early 1900s. And buildings. Restaurant and a hall for entertainments.

Dwayne Webb

Wonderful experience, new to town? Take it in you will learn a lot about our province here!

Jeanette

This is a great place to learn about our past, and explore what it might have been like. I've been here for a tours, weddings, Christmas parties, it's a great and affordable place to hold functions too!

Tyler Nixon

The restaurant is amazing. Great food, great staff and even better prices. The museum is always fun for all ages. Also, during covid it's so spacious inside you can go and rarely get close to others if distancing is an issue.

Daniel Gerle

Great place for breakfast also

Monte Turner

The museum is always interesting, although the displays do not change very often. I believe it is very important to learn history.

Chelsea Norheim

Always a good experience at the WDM. Kids loved it as well. Will definitely make sure to leave enough time to visit the Boomtown cafe on the next visit

Erica Mack

Very fun place to be! Closed due to the coronavirus but the 1950s boomtown is everybody's favourite exhibit. Cheers to hours of my childhood spent here. It truly is a great place to visit for fun and to learn about our Saskatchewan history.

Mihai H. Popescu

An excellent way to have a concrete image of all the efforts that were made to turn this land into a fruitful place.

Dave Andrews

Not what we expected. Large complex with lots of displays. Largest steam tractor l have ever seen. Really showed how the prairies were settled. That was a tough group of pioneer's. Amazing for a tourist just visiting. Three hours got us half way through. Food was good amd great value. Enjoyed our visit. Hope to go back again someday with our grandkids.????????

Veronica Dunkley

Went to the Festival of Trees! Was so beautiful and fun with the family! Went to Boomtown Café after, they were open later than usual. Would have been five stars if the Christmas pudding at the cafe was made the same as their take home package. Different receipes, different cakes. Unless I was given the wrong one...

Trish Voldeng

Santa breakfast was a hit with the kids. Food was good. Recommend touring Boom town prior to breakfast as afterwards it was packed. Glad we went earlier.

Ian Lucuik

Lots of fun, consistanly growing and changing. Great interactive exhibits!

Bill Golding

Love the reasonably priced Boomtown Cafe! Good food and friendly staff. A big thank you for the special treat for my wife who was there in a wheelchair. The new fruitcake with gumdrops is delicious! Keep making it! In addition, Patrice the server is absolutely phenomenal!

Melissa10380

Love this place!!! We have a yearly pass because my 3 year old loves the trains so much! We always grab lunch in the cafe, excellent home cooked food.

Paul Danis

Love this museum. If you want to go back in time, it's a great place to visit. Friendly staff. Nice souvenir shop.

Alyssia Aahn

Our family had an event at the Western development museum. It was a celebration of life. There were lots of people, and we stayed past closing. The staff at WDM were extremely helpful, supportive and friendly. It was a difficult day and the staff only made it easier for us. I would absolutely recommend the WDM as a place to hold your event, or just to check out boomtown to see our provinces history! Thank you so much WDM for all of your help.

Blaine Prentice

Lots of displays and mechanical history from farm equipment too automobiles. Unfortunately lots of exhibits with interactive parts were broken or did not work. Still it was fun and educational.

Mellow BigEddy

The kiddies had so much fun! There is always something new and being developed. The cafe in the museum had good old fashion food and desserts for very low prices. You can totally spend 2+ hours looking at everything. One happy customer here!

Herbert Stoeck

It has the old Eatons Christmas displays, and hey when it is Christmas you need to do Christmas stuff. It is retro strange and nostalgic. I like it.

J K

Festival of trees annual tradition, first time with my nephew this year, great time always brings back memories and the Eatons display!

Doreen Frey

Had lunch there with a friend. Great prices and following Covid rulrs

Sandra Carstairs

We love to visit the museum there is do much to see it takes my husband back to when he used certain types of machinery that is on display there I like all the old fashioned clothing that was worn back then.we like boom town, and the cafe serves the greatest food ever.

Alton Michel

Nice old town feel of how farming and colonization took over the west. One interesting shop is the "Land for Sale" building. Selling land to new comers that wants really theirs to sell. But hey...its the western "development" museum. Not a true depiction of what really happened (driving FN people to near starvation and herding them into small pockets of land called 'Reservations')

Allissa Reimer

A great visit for anyone who loves history and a great family place. My highlight was seeing CPR 2166. Sucks that the model train exhibit was closed down, I was really looking forward to it. The rest of the exhibits were great.

kayla Constantinoff

Great displays, so welcoming and the kids loved it. Been here many times and will continue to go. Great place for all!

Catherine Baule

A stroll into the past, with displays that are set up nicely for an enjoyable family outing. I have visited many times over the years and always learn something new.

Linda Nordlund

An absolutely wonderful place to visit for any age. We have had a membership for years and spend hours there every year.. Our kids love it and are starting to take the next generation there. Highly, highly recommend. The restaurant is awesome too.

Judy Newton

Really well done and so realistic. Had a great time. The restaurant was wonderful also.

Twyla Nelson-Carter

It was awesome! Staff was courteous and helpful! Attended a birthday party and it was a great time!

S Landego

This place is always a blast. We've had a membership for a couple years. We go often enough that it seems like there's always a new exhibit or something fun for the kids there!

David Morrison

I have worked in the conservatory and I'm a Pioneer Thresher Men's Club. I still like to wander through the exhibits.

Greig Cooper

We held our daughter's weeding here the first day the new restrictions where put in place on vaccination status and the staff were amazing. Everyone one of the staff truly wanted to ensure the success of our function, right from set up and multiple test runs of the slide show, to meeting any of our extra asks. The food was very good and plentiful. Thanks again for a fabulous evening.

K Loe

It is trying to come out from the oldtimer ways but my oh my is it ever stuck in its ways. Change the story!!!! . It is boomtown not #### town . A bonified sask only place to go. Maybe include a little more diversity in this dated museum . Mind you it does have its charm, somehow .

Howard

Was a fun time. Lots of informative displays. We dressed up for a picture and it turned out great. Definately glad we went.

Jackie Shanks

The Christmas party we had was fantastic. We were able to see the displays after our meal and the meal itself was scrumptious.

Karen Lucky

Took our 15 month old grand daughter for some inside exercise in the cold weather. Enjoyed the displays that are open and know that the closed ones will reopen when it is safe. .Careful protocol with contact tracing at entrance

Kimberley Malinowski

A fantastic place to get married! Our guests had free entry all night to the museum and the kids had a blast. Great food and large venue for our supper and dance. Our vows were said on the rail station deck. So awesome! I'd say we'd do it again but you know.....:).

Don Bowey

The Western development museum has a serious problem in relation to their blacksmithing course. This is in very high demand and I like many others before have been attempting to take this course for YEARS. Going on 3 at the moment. I would be so happy to even put down a deposit on future spots if that was a possibility or prepay my admission for this course in advance but sadly it is a poorly run system that leaves most wanting. I hope that the administration takes a serious look at their admission procedures and attempts to address the issue.

Amanda Schutz

The festival of trees is always enchanting. Great entertainment, the trees and gingerbread houses are fun to look at and vote on our favorites. The Eaton's display is great. We go every year and are never disappointed.
