Incredible visit! I am a huge fan of naval and military history and loved visiting and learning about the HMCS Onondaga. The guided visit gave us an idea of how the sailors lived and how the ship works. I would highly recommend this for people of all ages!

Too crowded! 30 minutes just to get a ticket, then shoulder to shoulder inside. They should warn visitors that the submarine visit is jam packed and you’ll be stuck hardly moving for 45 minutes. This was at 9am on a weekday. Bad experience.

My wife and 12 year old son took the submarine tour (I couldn't because my oldest is in a wheelchair) and they loved it. Then we visited the museum as a family and this visit was also interesting. The site also has a very beautiful lighthouse which unfortunately cannot be visited. The place as such is really beautiful. The landscape is splendid. The parking lots are plentiful (there is even one for RVs and trailers) and there are many picnic tables and benches to sit on. The place also has public toilets. I really recommend this place if just for a break. (Original) Un très bel endroit qui vaut assurément le détour même si ça ne serait que pour admirer l’endroit sans être obligé de faire les deux attractions disponibles, le sous-marin et le musée de l’Empress of Ireland. Ma femme et mon jeune fils de douze ans ont fait la visite du sous-marin (je n’ai pas pu car mon plus vieux est en fauteuil roulant) et ils ont adoré. Ensuite nous avons visité le musée en famille et cette visite fût elle aussi intéressante. Le site possède aussi un très beau phare qui malheureusement ne peut être visité. L’endroit en tant que tel est vraiment beau. Le paysage est splendide. Les parkings sont nombreux (il y en à même un pour vr et roulottes) et il y a de nombreuses tables à picnic et banc pour s’asseoir. L’endroit possède aussi des toilettes publiques. Je recommande vraiment cette endroit ne serait-ce que pour faire une pause.

Really interesting place and a rarity to get all close and personal with a more recent type of submarine (not WW2). The English audio guide was great, telling an engaging story while explaining the workings of the boat and live of the crew onboard. Recommend combining this with a visit of the lighthouse.

This was an experience not to miss! We took an overnight tour of this submarine. The tour consists of a guided tour of every part of the ship, and how life is on board a sub, you learn all the different stations,, and how to operate them, then they run through a scenario and some fun games. You watch a movie then its time to sleep on the cramped sleeping quarters. In the morning you are severed a continental breakfast, given your submariner's pin and leave the sub. Do not miss this fantastic experience.

A great stop to see pretty unusual things! A submarine (unfortunately it was closed and couldn't be visited when we were there), a fairly tall lighthouse and a museum building that is built in a rather unconventional way-- yet totally appropriate considering the topic: the tragedy of the Empress of Ireland (the building is shaped as a shipwreck). Definitely a stop that we would recommend.

We visited the lighthouse - the steps are rather steep and narrow - and got a short but interesting overview of its history and how such a lighthouse was operated. And we visited the submarine and followed a audio tour explaining the working of the submarine and the daily life on board of a submarine. Interesting but a bit long.

The presentation of a Canadian submarine is interesting and rich in terms of information, but too much an entertainment. I didn’t even buy tickets or go into the museum or submarine. I still give this jem of a place 5 stars. Beautiful lighthouse and older nautical buildings along the shore as well as some very amazing sights of the river as well. I’ve been passing through Rimouski for over 30 years and this was my first visit, will be going again and maybe actually visit the museum.

Discovering Destinations

Passing through the little town of Rimouski towards Gaspé, located on Rue du Phare, right on the bank of the St Laurent River, we find this place called "Pointe-au-Pere" which we love. We did not have much time to explore all the exhibits that look very interesting which contains museums including one in a submarine and a lighthouse but we walked around on a beautiful sunny day where we contemplated a super nice place to spend the day between adults or in families with children, with space for a picnic or if you prefer a coffee and sunbathe. We recommend visiting and exploring more the place if you have the chance!

All the visitors we passed seemed, or said they were delighted with their visit. I am usually a pretty critical person (sometimes even a bit fussy) and I have no negative points to report. Only positive! I highly recommend this place. It is a unique place to live a "different" experience and completely unhook. It was really a remarkable visit of which one keeps a memory all his life. La visite du sous-marin est absolument à ne pas manquer! Avant d'embarquer à bord de celui-ci, on nous prête un appareil qui nous fait une description audio de l'endroit où on se trouve à bord. Une foule d'informations pertinentes sont ainsi livrées sur un ton hyper sympathique, juste assez "technique" (le "dosage" était parfait) et le tout est vraiment très intéressant et captivant! Les personnes qui ont travaillé à la conception et à la réalisation de cette trame sonore ont vraiment fait un boulot exceptionnel et je tenais à le souligner. Bravo!!! Tout était parfait! Le sous-marin, quand à lui, est vraiment à couper le souffle! Sa taille est immense et juste de le voir de l'extérieur constitue un spectacle unique et très impressionnant!!! Aussi, à souligner: partout sur le site, le personnel est d'une gentillesse remarquable! Les tarifs sont aussi très abordables et à la fin de la visite on n'éprouve pas du tout la désagréable impression de s'être fait "avoir" en tombant dans une autre "trappe à touristes". Tous les visiteurs que nous avons croisés semblaient, ou se disaient enchantés de leur visite. Je suis une personne habituellement assez critique (parfois même un peu chiâleux) et je n'ai aucun point négatif à rapporter. Que du positif! Je recommande très fortement cet endroit. C'est un endroit unique pour vivre une expérience "différente" et complètement décrocher. C'était réellement une visite marquante dont on garde un souvenir toute sa vie. Paid for the sub tour and was told if we made it to the lighthouse before they closed (Were there with 25 MIN left till close) we would be able to tour the lighthouse. Upon entering they said they just let the last group up 5 min before we arrived and that we could not enter. Upon speaking to management to mention this is our one and only time in this area and moving on to Ontario all we got was a supervisor who said she couldn't speak any English. Our little boys were upset needless to say, this was the first and only lighthouse we would have been able to go in after seeing a dozen during our 2 week maritime vacation. One suggestion, if you are going to have senior management to have running this tourist attraction maybe consider hiring someone bilingual to bridge the gap and not to offend as most of the visitors if not all had out of province license plates (Ontario, Pei, Manitoba...)

In short, if you want to wait twice more than 30 minutes, the detour is worth it, but the logistics on the spot must be completely reviewed. To do it again we would have to avoid the museum so as not to waste 40 minutes in a second queue. (Original) Il y a 2 billeteries. Nous avons donc acheté 1 billet double pour les 2 activités (musée et sous marin). Après avoir attendu plus de 30 minutes pour entrer au musée (1er activité) il a obligatoire de repasser à la 2e billetterie pour avoir accès à la 2e activité. Ceci à aucune logique. Nous avons chercher des explications aux différents employés mais la réponse était que c'était comme ça. Bref si vous voulez attendre 2 fois plus de 30 minutes le détour en vaut la peine mais lors logistique sur place est à revoir complètement. A refaire nous aurions éviter le musée pour ne pas perdre un 40 minutes dans une 2e file d'attente.

(Original) Nous avons beaucoup aimé le musée maritime avec notre enfant de 4 ans. Par contre, nous y sommes allés un jour de pluie, brume, etc... Et nous n'étions pas les seuls avec cette idée. Plus d'une heure de queue pour faire le sous marin pour environ 45 min de visite (a la queue leuleu dans le sous marin). Mais c'est le seul sous marin que l'on peut visiter au Canada ! La visite avec le guide audio portatif est très bien. 25 minutes d'attente au phare pour 15 min de visite. Le film au musée du empress of Ireland est sympa. Musée à faire.
