We did an early morning drive to this place. It opens at 10am. From the roadside, this is the real deal -- actual former plant with buildings intact. The view of the surroundings is lovely. Worth a quick drive out of the way to see this.

Michael Spilsted

Not as open as it used to be, but the model train exhibit is amazing. They offer family/season passes also

Sheila Hildebrand

Nice and interesting. Good gift shop.

We got there just as a tour started and we were able to join in a few minutes after it started. The group was large about 20 people and the operator's split it in half for a better experience. Our tour guide Corban was great! He made jokes and kept the tour flowing, even through technical difficulties. The gift store was great as well. They have Indigenous based objects to purchase which brings in a part of the culture that used to be there. My only "complaint" was there wasn't any gluten free options in the cafe except for salad. Overall I would highly recommend coming to this cannery to dive deeper into the culture and history of the local area.

The visit at the Cannery was really amazing! We had a great guide (he is from from Ontario, forgot his name but this guy is amazing; white mustache!). He explained us everything about the cannery and the life back in the days, the different etnies working there, the problems etc. After the visit we discussed for another hour and all our questions were answered. The place also has a little souvenir shop and a little restaurant with tasty cakes! Accessible by bus.

We love visiting North Pacific Cannery each year. The site and location are majestic and I always learn new things each time I take the guided tours. Additionally, the restoration work over the past handful of years has been a fascinating transformation to save this historical site. Each time we go out there are new pieces of the puzzle that have been safely and accurately restored.

Norbert Wangsa-Wirawan

Great museum for learning about cannery industry and the history of the area industry long time ago. Very informative guide tour and very friendly & knowledgeable guide.

J.P. Muldoe

A beautiful stop well worth the short drive out of town. The history there is unreal. That being said, the gift shop is pricey and the staff can be hit and miss on friendliness.

So many memories, my dad used to work here, I even got to go stay the night in one of the houses there, I miss the smell of the ocean, how they would go to a storm drain down the beach to find any crabs or other fish that got stuck in a pond when high tide went down, but most of all I found it amazing that it was a community, inviting each other over to different houses for meals, I think my dad said that they even put notes and letters on those model trains lol just let them run around with names in bold print for people to pick up. I even remember "helping" deliver stuff from place to place but that was really my squatting on the box lifter when it was empty and being the cargo pushed around by my dad.

Must see. Very educational.

Did you know canned salmon was Canada's first value-added product for export? This national historic site is beautifully situated by the mouth of the mighty Skeena River and is beautifully restored. Catch one of the tours to really make the history of the place come alive. Definitely a must-see for any Canadian visiting northern BC!

Awesome piece of history for Prince Rupert!

Axel Von Arnim

Excellent historic site. Thorough explanations from guides. Guides tour is a must. Only remark: guide can be a bit biased, hiding the past with today's standard opinions, which doesn't make to much sense in a historic approach.

David Heller

A step back in time. Preservation and historical significance.

Lorenzo “Defra” de Francesco

Don't waste your time! There is a reason the only people who stay here more than 5 minutes are tourists on busses, because they cannot leave. You are better off doing any of the numerous walks in the area. The staff here is awful, there is nothing worth seeing other than the location on the Skeena River itself, which can be seen from anywhere nearby.

Seren Christ

A very interesting place to see. We learned a lot, and had a great time.

Jessica Adams

History told by a great guide and beautiful scenery.

North Pacific Cannery is a must-see attraction near Prince Rupert. About a 20-minute drive and well worth the effort. Admission includes a tour or you can explore on your own. Meghan gave us an excellent one and a half hour tour that brought the place to life.

Joel Zahn

If you're a history buff, this is a great place to stop. Stop at a time just before a tour takes off - it's well worth it. Staff is exceptional at their jobs - warm, friendly, and exceedingly knowledgeable. If in the area again, I'd definitely go for a second look. Cafe closes early, but we weren't interested in that too much. Gift shop caters to a wide range of budgets.

Christina Finn

We just dropped in for a quick visit and ended staying for a couple of hours and joining one of the free tours. The guide was excellent and really explained all about the cannery from its construction to the social interactions between those different national groups who worked there . Fascinating to see some of the old equipment in operation too and hear about the process. I thought it was excellent and was informative and enjoyable. Well done to everyone involved in the preservation and teaching about the cannery.

Pearl Kohlman

Being from the prairies I found the guided tour to be very informative. The museum was very well maintained. Today they were celebrating The cannery's 135 th annivèsary.

Megs Harwood

Had a surprisingly great time here! Well worth the drive out, a gorgeous setting and a well maintained and laid out exhibit.

Frank Head

Loved the history. If you're I the area you just have to make the effort to see this

Richard Ferris

As the last remaining example of a Cannery in this part of the world it is a worthwhile visit if you're into history and the jobs and industries that created our current world Like many surviving examples this example had all of his equipment strip from it when it was retired. Only the diligent work of citizens re-save the buildings and site. Equipment has been brought in to recreate parts of the Cannery and show you how things would have been done. Tour guides emphasis was on the workforce and cultures of the people working in the Cannery and had only limited knowledge of the actual process is being employed. If old industrial sites are your thing this is definitely a winner

Coming from an area that has a fishing port we could relate to the hard work that went into this cannery by the people. Nice that the history is there to enjoy.

O C

Intresting place to visit and connected by a bus from Prince Rupert every 2 hours. I had enough time between buses for the tour which has a great guide take you through the history of the cannary and surroundings and is well worth doing. Weather depending there is a lovely area to sit and eat lunch with great views along the coast.

Amazing history. Walking thru without guide and ran into a family and grandfather was telling Grandchildren what he did in the plant and what macine he ran. We asked him how old he was when he worked there and he said he was 14. He wasthen taken from there and put in prison camp for the Japanese after Pearl Harbour was bombed. It was very interesting listening to someone that actually lived this.

Drove for almost 45 mins to go see the Canery. I went to go see the festivities and play Pokemon Go, since there is a game related stop out there. I kindly ask one of the workers there if I could have the wifi password because there is asboslutely no cell service out there. The woman was extremely rude and short with me. I was appalled and highly offended. I will NEVER go back to that place. I felt very unwelcomed by her. I wouldn't recommend that place to my worst enemy. I wish I had 2 sets af hands togive it 4 thumbs down.

Very well done, can't think of how it could have been better. Salmon chowder & biscuits were great on a rainy day.

The North Pacific Cannery has a lot of potential. They have definitely done some work to it over the last few years. The scenery is beautiful. The history is great. They do need to improve on the displaying and making it more engaging.Displays would be nice if they were era related (1910 building should not have a cardboard 200? Mandarin orange box. Another house had bottles of insecticide and rubbing alcohol behind the rope). We ate at the Mess Hall and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff member was interactive and very friendly. Gift shop staff member was also very friendly. As always for the past 20 some years, the model railroads/trains were a favourite!

An awesome venue for weddings/special events or just to gey away for the day and enjoy some history. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Also the food at the "mess hall" sounds very simple when looking at the menu but everything is delicious and home made.
