This Museum is classified in the category of Zoo.
We had a great time learning about a variety of different bugs! Our educator was very involved and fun to converse with! We had more fun than we thought we would ????????
Awesome place to go if you want to see and interact with bugs that you would not normally get to interact with. Staff are great!
I held a scorpion! And shook hands with a spider (the which is shocking if you know me). The tour guide was really understanding and helped people with arachnophobia. Also I learned a lot!
We love this place! The staff are so knowledgeable and the critters are awesome. Highly recommend for kids and anyone that likes bugs.
Spent an entire afternoon here and was never bored. Did the tour and held ALL the bugs. The staff were so knowledgable and make you love the bugs as much as they do.
The staff were great at this surprisingly small bug area. Stay away from the gift shop - we spent $25 on a wooden bug house with totally dried out paints. The manager never called back with a remedy!
Four stars only because it is a very small place. Essentially, two big rooms with lots of aquariums, and an insect selection of maybe 25-35 live species (most of them unique) and a few dozen preserved butterflies. Would have given it 5 stars if the place was bigger and with more types of insects. You can spend anywhere between 30 minutes to two hours there, most probably. What really made the experience great, was the 'tour guide' Ash, who was charming, knowledgeable and overall just lovely. Ash was incredible with the children we saw there, truly exceptional. This guy should have his own bug zoo. You reading this Ash? OPEN YOUR OWN PLACE MAN!
Really interesting! The guy is passionate, he knows how to transmit his passion to us.
They let me hold a tarantula AND a scorpion. A+. (The staff was also incredibly friendly, and very good about making sure nobody got creeped out by the bugs.)
Sadly only an hour left in the day when we got there, the insect and collection is exotic and interesting. The staff are knowledgeable and super friendly. We got to hold a tame and sedate tarantula named Nora. I was never terrified of spiders before, but I never really understood or liked them. Since then they have become my buddies, and I appreciate what they do. I think it's a great place for kids and adults alike and well go back when in Victoria again and spend more time!
I love this place... Great staff, great attractions and a great experience! I visited before Covid and got to hold a beautiful tarantula. This has gone a long way to helping me get over my arachnophobia. Thank you guys, love from the UK.
This place was amazing. Great variety of bugs!! Friendly, informative staff. My daughter loved the hands on experience of holding some of the bugs. Highly recommend.
This place was amazing, the kids loved all the different bugs and the staff was very knowledgeable
The people working here are so passionate and knowledgeable about bugs. Lots of interactive sessions and a wide variety to see.
It was 30 minutes well spent! Fun and educational experience and new appreciation for the variety and survival skills in the bug kingdom
Super cool! Definitely worth a quick visit. I went on a quiet day - Ash was there and he was awesome at explaining and showcasing the different kinds of bugs. Make sure you stay calm! They're wonderful animals but can give the faint of heart a flutter. Please be nice and polite when you go - it's not a huge place; but they do love bugs and visitors.
It's a very interesting and fascinating place u can learn all kinds of things about bugs that you normally would never see in north America.
Good space for kids! Explore, feel, discover. Excellent people!
This place is awesome! Make sure you join the tours. It definitely changes the way you view bugs. You'll get the chance to hold and touch the different critters they have with the tour (if you so choose). Such a great little place filled with so much. Definitely worth every (very affordable) penny!
This place is so much fun to visit! Very educational for both children and adults. I've been coming here since I was a kid, and I still enjoy visiting now and again. My favorite things about this place are how open intelligent the staff are about the bugs. They all seem to really enjoy their jobs and it makes the experience so much better. They also helped me get over my fear of spiders by holding their one of their tarantulas, Mary. If you're a tourist or a local, you gotta go here at least once!
Very fun place, excellent for kids, you even can pet some of the bugs
This is a great place to go to. Very thorough explations about the life of the insect's they have on site as well as very interesting facts on how they keep their habitat in the ideal conditions. Staff is very knowledgeable and their customer service is superb. I highly recommend it for families with curious kids. Their guides also keep it fun by letting kid hold some of the harmless bugs. Very exciting for all ages.
Awesome experience! Many varieties of insect and arachnid specimens to see, hold and learn about. The gentleman doing the tour was fantastic! Only sad part was that I went to late in the day, so I didn't get to hold any of the praying mantises. That just means I'll have to return! Seriously awesome place.
A fun place to spend an hour or so with kids. I don't know where they find their tour guides, they clearly love all the bugs like they were puppies or something cuter. They outright gush about their favorites. I think they would be the first to admit that. The kids absorb some of that enthusiasm from the guides and seem happy to touch and watch the bugs, even if they normally find bugs gross.
Our favorite family spot in Victoria! Wonderful, knowledgeable guides who take their time with all ages. Excellent variety of insects with lots of opportunities for "hands on" experience, if you're feeling adventurous.
It was a supremely awesome place! We went with one of the anti-insect, squeamish, 'ew! ick! i'm going to barf'! crowd and by the end they were totally into it. It's definitely a lot of fun.
I've taken my kids 3 times now over two summers and we never tire of visiting. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and it's a very interactive experience. We'll definitely be back in years to come.
Highly recommend this place for kids and bug lovers! It was pretty small, but the guides made it so much more than it looks at first sight. They opened every terrarium and talked about and showed each bug! We got to hold so many bugs and learn many things I never knew. My kids ages 3 and 5 , went around looking at every creature and holding each one and smiling the whole time! They had a priceless time here and I highly recommend for visitors to Victoria.
Had a wonderful private tour guided by Gabrielle. She was quite knowledgeable about all the bugs and I learned a lot. Very friendly staff all round and an interesting assortment of exhibits. Will definitely be making another extended visit in the near future.
We had a great time visiting the Victoria Bug Zoo. Our guide Owen was very friendly, knowledgeable and told us lots of great facts about bugs. They currently have spiders, grasshoppers, stick insects and Ants in there to name a few. My daughter really enjoyed the Ant Colony.
The 2 employees who were there when we were there were so enthusiastic and knowledgable. We had a wonderful time, and it's too bad we arrived so late in the day, we would have loved to have snuggled some more of the mantids!
The guides make this small zoo come to life, with engaging, hands-on time with the bugs mixed in with a little science.
Interesting collection of bugs. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We learned a lot there. We thought $25 per adult was too expensive for the experience though.
I think I had more fun here than my son. We are bug lovers so my review is probably biased. Such cute critters! Loved holding them.
Very small, but interesting place to take children who are interested in little critters. Staff see engaging and allow guests to hold or touch some of the zoo's inhabitants, too.
Thanks for amazing helpful staffs, showing us all these wonderful creatures. Letting us to pet bugs.
My granddaughter loved it and couldn't stop talking about it. We got some plastic bugs and she pretended she was the guide and told me about the bug mimicing what the guide had said. The guides were great. Patient and sharing their enthusiasm for working with the six legged little beasties and inviting the kids and parents to hold or pet the ones that were safe for the interacting bugs.
A must visit place! I was probably the only adult not accompanied by any kid, but I still had so much fun. Spent about an hour. Owen passionately told us so many facts about the insects and also patiently answered all the questions. Unfortunately due to COVID restrictions couldn’t touch any of the insects but still could observe them up close. Definitely visit!
Cute spot for adults and kids alike to learn about and touch (if you want) all sorts of creepy crawlies. Wish there were more places like this. It's a bit run-down inside but the kids won't mind.
An old favorite for our family, still the amazing, fun experience!
We really enjoyed it! Very knowledgeable staff and a good value.
It's a solidly mediocre time. Definitely funner for the kids but with covid they won't let you touch or interact with the bugs. Which I'd get, but we are all in a tiny space without masks? I find inconsistent business rules around COVID-19 irritating. BUT. Man. The guides know their stuff! I was really impressed with all the information they had on demand.
Small place but can take up to 2 hours if you listen to the complete presentation. The instructors hold the bugs with their hands and tell something about them. It has tarantulas, Hercules beetle, big stick insects, ant colonies, etc. Fun and interesting place for kids and teens. Adults with some interest in wildlife will also enjoy the experience.
Informative staff and large variety of insects to see and interact with. Took my wife there and we loved it and it’s not expensive either.
This place had a great variety of insects most of wich you can touch if u want to. The guide we had was amazing she knew so much and was so great with the kids there. So insightful and alot of spiders :)
It’s a small place but they have some amazing insects. Having a guide hold and demonstrate them is awesome, looking forward to them letting kids hold them too!
We had such an amazing, educational experience at the bug zoo. The staff working there are so passionate and enthusiastic about teaching others what they know, I learned so many cool things. Very happy we went and I definitely recommend this to anyone passing by
Very good place for small kids but I would suggest as a better option the Butterfly museum in Sydney. The place is extremely small, so unless your kid is extremely interested in bugs I would pass this one. What saves the visit is the hyper friendly guides they have there. They let you pet non-venomous scorpions and such.
Tour guides are so informative and fun! It's a small place. To get the most out of it, you need to listen to the tour guides and follow them around the room, especially when they're in the stickbug and spider sections. I think some people were disappointed because they didn't follow the tour guide around to hold the bugs or ask them questions. I got to hold lots of bugs, including a tarantula named Aurora, and a stickbug named Gertrude. Fun for adults :)
Possibly the best museum experience we've had. Small but mighty and the staff is amazing at presenting the bugs. Where else do you get to hold the tarantula!!! 12 year old Ant colony is mind-blowing.
The staff members know their facts and are very helpful to have around. They offer a walking tour that goes around the room which you can join and leave whenever you want. The guide lets you hold different bugs and shares lots of facts which are engaging for all ages. I found that the zoo was a little smaller than what I was expecting for my money's worth. Had an enjoyable time but I don't really have a reason to come back.
Lots of cool bugs to see here and great for kids. I just went with my girlfriend and we enjoyed it but it was definitely geared more towards kids and families. The tour guide who was talking about all the bugs and explaining things to the kids was very lively and exciting and they were loving it. I would recommend this as a family activity for anyone in the Victoria area especially on a rainy day.
The Bug Zoo was recommended to me on the promise of holding a tarantula, and I was able to hold not only hold a tarantula, but scorpions, stick insects, millipedes, and several species of cockroach. Overall an excellent value for the price of admission, and I recommend following the tour.
Fun but super tiny. I mean, it's bugs so they don't need a ton of space but it was a little disappointing that it's basically 2 living rooms with of zoo. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Kids had fun. Just not a ton of it because there just wasn't much to see.
Great staff and curious selection of neat critters. Amazing to get the opportunity to hold them.
Fabulous! Very patient answering questions. Interesting and informative answers. Wheelchair accessible. They made it so much fun, my elderly mom even asked to hold the tarantula!
The Bug Zoo was super neat....and what I loved most about it was how knowledgeable the guides were. They could answer every question about all the bugs that were there, no matter how weird! Now of course you have to listen to people ask all these weird questions that take time away from the guide talking, but they are pretty good at getting people back on focus!
Absolutely wonderful. Interesting place for adults and kids alike. Nice to be able to take the kids somewhere when in Victoria, BC that drives their imagination and knowledge of bugs. My kids loved it. I would highly recommend this place when here.
Had a fantastic time at the Bug Zoo with my two toddlers and tween aged nieces. My 4 year old is super into bugs so he had an amazing time looking at everything, asking questions and asking to see them up close. The staff are so kind and …
We came here with the kids during spring break and it was pretty neat ! The staff are knowledgable and friendly. I would rate higher but the main store entrance area lacked enough space to hang coats and belongings(it's warm in the bug room) Also admission seemed high in my opinion $12 per adult and $8 per child, considering we were done in 15 minutes. Granted we didn't follow the staff lead touchy feely tour, the kids got bored and just wanted to look. If your child is into bugs I would recommend taking them.
Very cool! Super knowledgeable and friendly staff and a nice close up look at some cool bugs.
Great little place with quite a lot to see though no snakes which was a little disappointing. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff who were happy to talk in depth about the insects and other bugs on display.
The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and know how to keep the kids' attention. Their store has plenty of nice gift ideas for bug and insect lovers.
Super fun experience, even just for adults, as long as you're fascinated by bugs. The tour guide was very charming and clearly knowledgeable about the bugs. It was also really fun to hold some of them! I just wish this"zoo" was bigger, but I still thought cost of admission was money well spent.
Did not want to visit at first but it was actually pretty cool.
Tour guides are fun, knowledgeable, and quirky! We loved it!
Such a fun little zoo! You can hold some of the bugs too! The staff working there are very knowledgeable and will answer any question you have about the bugs! The tour took about 45 minutes to an hour. I even got to hold a scorpion and let a stick bug hang out for a bit. Overall it was a charming experience.
Small little zoo with some interesting bugs! The education guides really made this place for us though! Seeing the bugs up close and out of the cages was brilliant. Guides are amazingly knowledgeable and really engaged the kids. Highly recommend!
A small yet very compact place, The staff on had are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the bugs they keep, an excellent stop for both locals and tourists visiting with children
Really cool experience, not very big but informative. A guide is present all the time and explains as well as shows insects around.
Was having a good time until my 4 year old daughter was ASSAULTED by a staff member, a large man named Ash. Her hands were gently on the glass of a bug case. He ran over, yanked her by the arm, and shouted NO NO NO NO NO! Victoria PD was called and I am now pursuing this as a civil matter. The female manager did absolutely nothing and went as far as to say they are allowed to grab children in a vicious manner to 'protect' their animals.
The tarantulas are in terrible conditions and are most likely going to die of stress. If they knew anything about tarantulas they would not keep them in such big enclosures. The vinegaroons are also a burrowing species but yet they are only on 2 inches of substrate. Its terrible for a place that calls themselves a bug zoo to not do proper research on animals in their zoo. Pity.
Very fun and novel. The space itself is pretty small but there's quite a bit to do, see and touch! Our guide Ash was knowledgable and hilarious. My 2 year old loved it.
Very friendly staff but definitely not worth the admission fee I am sorry. Very small space and very few insects.
Lots of fun, very involved. Definitely fun for both kids and adults. Blaise was very knowledgeable and funny, thanks for the tour!
Definitely as good as it gets! I didn't expect much and I am still shocked what an amazing impact our visit had on me and my kids! we learned so much! Ash, our guide, was the highlight! What an amazing story teller, he transformed complex info into easy and relatable facts. What a knowledgeable smart person, he has such a special talent and made it all so fascinating to all of us! My 7 year olds absolutely loved it and this experience transformed me. I am a converted bug lover (or at least respect them a lot more now!). Thank you Ash! Never thought I would say that the bug zoo was one of the highlights of our trip (and Victoria has a lot of great things going on) but this was quite special! Certainly a highlight and we will be back for more. What an unique place with excellent staff!
You get to touch the safe critters. Lots of creatures both alive and preserved. Free tours and demos. Friendly staff. Great location. It's warm in there! Only down side was a bunch of kids with no manners were practically on top of the tour guide and we could barely see anything. But that would be the parents fault (they were essentially doing the same thing).
A fascinating experience for both adults and children. A very enthusiastic tour guide showed us a number of the arthropods in the zoo and we were able to gently hold some as well. A lot of fun if you enjoy bugs!
Absolutely amazing experience here. Had an awesome time and the guide who had been with us was very informative and funny. Would really recommend coming for an afternoon.
Very cool, super educational, tour guide was great.
Small, but a lot of fun. Naturalist during the tour was very informative and we had plenty of options to hold some pretty scary and creepy bugs and spiders from a large tarantula, a black scorpion, to a leafy stick bug and cockroach.
Staff were friendly and the guide was definitely into bugs, he was passionate and informative and made learning about them fun. Make sure you stop at the gift shop if you want edible bugs...
Cool place. Learned alot about bugs i no idea about. Great for kids and kid at heart.
Very interesting to see such a variety of large bugs. The stick bugs were the creepiest as they are hard to find. But once you see them it is unnerving as they hide so well. The giant, thick millipedes remind me of the scene in Raiders of the lost Ark.
Tour guide Jason did an amazing job of captivating people of all ages with his tour, including my friends who are all in high school, several toddlers, young adult couples and elderly people. He was equal parts fun and informative and I highly recommend stopping by even for a short visit!
So awesome! Discounted admission with my UVic student card! So much information from the awesome staff!
It was small but an excellent time. We were able to handle some of the critters and our guide Gabriella did a wonderful job.
What makes this a 5 star place to go? The employees who pull out the insects/ arachnids to see and sometimes touch and who share a ton of information about the creatures in the zoo. There's also clear descriptions about the animals which are very interesting. Who knew katydids have ears in their knees?
This place is nice. We went to a few places in Victoria (Butchard Garden, Miniature World, BC Royal Musiem). This was first and only place where we were forced to buy and put face masks. Giving 2 stars for that. If the management decided to keep the place safe, they could propose the masks for free as a sign of care. Hope they change this procedure and other visitors appreciate the change.
Give the bug zoo a try! This is a great little hidden gem in downtown Victoria. Lot of fun with kids! When I first went in, I thought the price seemed a little high, but I quickly realized that this is a really well put together experience, rather than just some displays to walk through. There were two different 'guides' giving tours of the creatures while we were in there. The staff were professional, knowledgeable and really good with kids. All in all a great time. You could easily lose an hour or more in there, especially if you have kids with you.
Make sure you follow the person giving the tour or all you do it look at bugs. It is a small room, but we were there for 2 hours listening to the guide! It was evident that she really likes her bugs and knows her stuff!
Very cute place to go with your family and certainly for your younger kids. My daughter really loved this place and she's 9 although she wasn't quite sure what to think of all the giant spiders. The staff here are really nice and very knowledgeable about all the Little Critters they have and they are more than willing to take out a few for you to hold or touch.
We were passing by and decided to check out this place. It was very fun and we had a great tour guide who shared and showed some bugs very up close. Perfect place to go with kids!
Such an awesome staff and experience! Carlee was very knowledgeable and super nice. She had the answers for all of our questions and I cannot recommend this place enough! Carlee also pins lots of the insects that are available for purchase in the gift shop and does an absolutely lovely job. The guy who was at the front desk was also very kind and polite. I always have such a good experience here. While we were going through the tour yesterday (Aug 29, 2020) there was another group of people and one lady in the group was recording a live video for her social media. This is not allowed at the zoo because it’s like shoplifting the experience for others. Carlee very kindly informed this woman that live videos were not permitted (as everyone is told at entry) and that if she were to continue she would be asked to leave. This lady threw a fit and started calling Carlee rude and complaining about how bad the service was. Yet she continued her live video and bashed Carlee as well as the Bug Zoo in the video. Once again she was asked to leave and eventually she did. Carlee handled the situation very well despite the customer’s poor attitude and ability to follow a very simple rule.
Super cool. I came here with my 9 year old nephew when I was in town visiting. We both had a great time. Tools about 60-90 minutes to go all around. The guide was great at opening cages and taking out the insects for us to see or touch. I definitely recommend it for animal lovers or just curious.
My son and I loved the bug zoo! Lots of insects packed into that small room. Tour guide was incredibly outspoken and informative, definitely latch onto a tour guide. Also got to hold some bugs including a large tarantula. Only downside is the outrageous price for adults.
Wonderful and friendly staff up front and really informative staff guiding you through a great hidden world of bug life. great exhibits and excellently displayed. My 8yo loved it.
This place houses two leafcutter ant colonies, a carpenter ant colony, and a variety of insects and arachnids. Highlights include various species of mantids, at least 10 different tarantulas, and three display cases of stick insects. Also some beetles and scorpions, as well as 2 blattodea displays. On the walls are lepidoptera specimens on loan from the bc museum, and several display cases of pinned beetles and a variety of old tarantula moults. Overall well worth the entry price.
I have been here several times over the years. The tour guides help make the experience much better. Don't expect a "zoo" with acres and acres of bugs......it's 2 rooms with about 50 different bugs/insects on display. You can walk through in less than 5 minutes and see everything. 20 if you read all the information about the bugs. If you listen to the tour guides and hold the insects and ask alot of questions, you can spend an hour in here for sure. Bring your camera!
Nice little bug zoo. Staff are so friendly, hilarious, very knowledgeable. Going on tour and seeing they going through all discovery that I did not know. A little hesitant to touch those bug guys but it is fun day out. Hopping they bring more bugs into place.
Really fun to check out. Super knowledgeable staff. Also nice and toasty inside so if you're cold outside wandering around pop in here for an hour and learn some cool facts about bugs
Nice little bug zoo, not pricey and a lot of fun for kids. One of the educators, Chandler, was great when dealing with one of the tarantulas so that my son could see it better and take a cook picture of it!
Very interesting zoo. The educators are really willing to help visitors understand the habits of bugs - very informative. People of all ages could enjoy the visit.
So worth the visit. If you're lucky you'll get to meet Blaise and get some amazing insight to the world of these little guys!
fun and educational. Our daughter absolutely loved it and I would definitely recommend this place for young kids.
After 10 years living in Victoria I finally made it! It's a great space, smaller but packed with amazing sights! The stick and leaf bugs are such incredible wonders of evolution one could marvel at them hours!!
Make no mistake, this is a small space, but there are plenty of bugs to see and the staff is incredible. We spent 45 minutes between two rooms and the staff offered up many amazing facts along the way - they even allowed us to hold some of the bugs!! The staff really made this come alive. Keep up the good work!
Super cool place! Anyone can feel/hold the millipede, and people 18+ can hold Audrey the tarantula. There were a lot of young kids, but it's definitely still an interesting place as an adult.
If you're there and it's not busy, the tour is personalized! Very interesting for kids and adults.
Bugs really creep me out but this will be our third time to the Bug Zoo. The kids love it! It's very well done and you can hold a bug the size of your face (on your face if you like).
The tour guides are great and very patient with skittish kids afraid to hold the bugs. Lots of good information. P.s. the tour guides really made the experience special.
Great little place to pay a visit and see the fascinating and beautiful creatures on display! The hands-on demos let you get up close and personal and the staff are very knowledgeable about their tenants. The zoo is well maintained and cared for by a dedicated staff.
There could be more bugs that aren't stick insects but the staff are super nice, knowledgeable, and love their job. Great choice for a first date to see who has the bigger pair ???? I wanted to hold the goliath tarantula but she's a shy one and might throw her hairs at people...
We took our grandkids here an I think I had just as much fun as they did! All sorts of displays and you can interact with many of the insects! Even a tarantula if you're over 19! The young lady that led our tour was VERY knowledgeable and answered lots of questions for the tour group ????
It's small but you can easily spend 1-2 hours here following one of the tours and holding all the bugs. Also got to face my fear and hold a tarantula!
We did not have a reservation but were able to go right in. Spent around an hour in the museum with 2 adults and a nine year old. We all loved it. Emma and Amanda were the bug experts and they were both fantastic. They were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about their craft. I definitely recommend this museum for any age.
This is definitely a great place to visit. The staff are wonderful and will provide an interesting and informative tour through the zoo. The zoo itself isn't very big, but you get a great experience while you're there. There are plenty of opportunities to view rare, unusual, and interesting bugs. There's also the opportunity to handle some of the bugs here if you're willing. The space is well maintained and I got the feeling that the staff really cares. Definitely check it out.
My mom and I had a BLAST here! This place is great for adults too.. the workers made our experience extra special and educational. And you gave plenty of opportunities to hold different bugs and ask lots of questions.
Very fun place and lots to learn!
Fantastic place for the whole family. Kids had an absolute blast, especially when they got to hold some of the bugs
Interesting local attraction, not a large exhibition but the staff are knowledgeable and take the time to explain the "bugs" in common language with enough Science to keep it legit :) If you don't like lots of spiders behind glass this is not the stop for you
I went here a couple years ago with my bestest friend and her family. I loved how the ant colony was a contained environment that went from room to room via clear tubing attached 1/2way up the wall. It also displayed the yearly gain the colony made throughout the years. ???? At the of our visit we were able to put a penny in a flattening machine which also stamped a cute pic of a insect to mark our memories. ????????????????????
I really like the idea of this place but it's far too small. There seemed to be a group getting a tour but we were on our own. We spent about 5 minutes in there and left disappointed. More staff inside the zoo and less in the gift shop would be more helpful.
One of my fav places to visit when I am in Victoria. Even with new ways of doing things for covid it was an educational experience. Well worth the money.
Awesome place! We couldn't hold the bugs, but we still had a great time with the experts handling them and telling us all about them. These people really know what they're talking about, and we learned way more than we expected! This is a super fascinating and interesting place, even just for 2 adults!
Super friendly and passionate staff! We learned so much thanks to our guide, Liz. Will visit again after covid so I get to hold those cute bugs :) Best for small (3-5) groups, squeamish people welcome.
Your kids will love this place; mine did! Be sure to take the little ones in when they’re more likely to be in a calm state. It’s important to be as quiet and relaxed when handling the crawly creatures. Staff are awesome. Look around for an online coupon if you can.
Fun times! Very interactive staff! Lots of great facts! The three year olds there are braver than I am about handling bugs!
It's a tiny 2-room zoo, but hey, bugs don't take up much space, and its a lot cooler than it appears from the outside. I thoroughly enjoyed it: the guides were very knowledgeable and I got to hold a hissing cockroach, a scorpion, a tarantula, and a giant millipede. That's a whole bunch of firsts! What it lacks in size it makes up for in hands-on-ness.
We went to the zoo today and had a great experience. Ash explained us everything about the bugs, tarantula... And Owen was really nice at the front desk. Thank you again for your warm welcome and for helping us to discover the zoo.
We have a new appreciation for bugs after visiting the zoo
What a disappointing and awful experience. I thought this was a family friendly place to take my two year old... the atmosphere is very unwelcoming and there are signs everywhere reminding you to supervise your children "especially toddlers" in the same vein as having all breakable items toddler height and NOTHING appropriate for them to touch. Woman at the front was awful, terrible customer service skills and as absolutely rude when she chastised me for not watching my daughter as she upset a small item off the shelf... even though I tried to explain to her I would have gladly paid for the item had it been broken I did not appreciate her rude tone and unpleasant attitude. She completely lost it on my saying it is because of "People Like me" that they had to put signs up and that I "Should be embarrassed" WHAT?? I was shocked. I told her her conduct was awful and that this was geared towards children so why are they so unwelcome? Absolutely ridiculous experience, don't bother going unless you're an adult. I was embarrassed, not of my daughter, but of this miserable old woman who hated kids. This is my home town and I was looking forward to sharing a family tradition with my family that I experienced as a child.... no such luck. Save your money and go to miniature world, wonderful friendly staff and things kids can actually do! (The guide Was very knowledgeable and kind, I exclude him from the interview)
We had an amazing time here. Jess was our tour guide and was so patient and informative. She patiently answered all questions and allowed everyone a chance to handle any of the critters.
I could spend hours watching the leaf-cutter ants alone. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the queen this last visit!
Even if your not a bug lover this has got to be a must do on your bucket list of things to do while you are in Victoria. The most informative staff are never too far away and ready to answer any questions you may have and the hands on experience is totally awesome. AA+ to the team.
Love this place! Learn so much and see so many amazing creatures! Fun for all ages!
This was absolutely worth a walk to, if downtown with kids. The kiddos loved looking at all the bugs. They also have someone taking them out, teaching the kids about them and they let the kids hold the bugs. From stick bugs to spidrs to beetles to ants to cockroaches and more.
Staff was lovely and knowledgeable, really cool space.
Great little zoo they have, and the staff is super kind and knowledgable !
Awesome staff, and the bugs are just adorable. The guide of the place was super informative and let everyone try holding the bugs. Would recommend
My kids love this place. There are lots of cool insects and you can hold some of them in you hand. We had a great time here and the staffs here are friendly and knowledgeable.
Lots of stick insects, the staff is doing a pretty good job due to the pandemic. But if people are not allowed to touch the gift shop items prior to buying then put the price on the front.
The Victoria Bug Zoo is the highlight of every visit I’ve had in Victoria. The staff are always super friendly and knowledgeable; I’ve learned tons of new facts on each of my three visits. During my most recent visit, Owen took some of the critters out to give us a closer look and he taught us so many cool things about scorpions and pseudo-scorpions. I recommend this place to everyone!
Guide had a lot of interesting information and also admitted when he didn't know some obscure thing someone asked. The zoo was pretty small but a lot of fun. Guide handled children's interruptions well. There were stools to sit or stand and see better, too. Shop had lots of fun interesting things for kids and adults alike.
This place was cool. But it's really just 2 small bedroom sized rooms filled with bugs. So it's like someone's bug collection there basment. The prices are a lot for what you get. I think we spent 40 dollers for my family of 4 to enter. Bug if your really into bugs definitely stop.
It's small but the people explaining the buds are awesome and you get to hold some, it you want☺️
Had a great time here. Was a little bit on the fence about going in the beginning but the lady at the counter talked me into it. I held a tarantula, a scorpion, a cockroach and a stick bug of some type. I also learned a lot about ants. That might not sound exciting, but there is a lot of interesting facts about them. Definitely worth stopping in for a while.
Fantastic and knowledgeable staff. Lots of creepy crawlers for all ages to enjoy. One of the more reasonably priced attractions in the area.
We just were there today for my daughter's 9th birthday. It was such a great experience! We booked the 1 hour private presentation, which was the way to go. Karlee did a fantastic job presenting various insects to our small group. She was engaging, friendly, and the kids loved it. I highly recommend the Bug Zoo for an individual visit, or a birthday part.
The guide was amazing! Very toddler friendly.
I hate bugs and spiders but I went to the bug zoo and I was surprised how wonderful it was. We were told we needed an hour to see everything however we took only twenty minutes to look around. I will definitely go back.
We keep coming here every time we're in Victoria. The guides are very knowledgeable and entertaining to listen to. We got a chance to hold various species at the museum.
We got to see and touch! A lot of beautiful bugs. It's a great place to visit with kids but adults will find interesting too.
Delightful, really fun. Actually very small (just two rooms), but a very immersive experience--you even get to hold some of the bugs! Highly recommended, especially for kids.
The bug zoo is amazing and has the nicest staff. I may never live down my embarrassment that I thought the bug zoo was the butterfly gardens. I was supposed to meet a friend who worked there and get in with a VIP pass. The staff decided I was their newest friend and let me in. When I realized my mistake, I bought as many edible bug snacks as I could to makensure I at least matched what the admission fees should have been. My friend thinks this is hilarious. I would like to say thank you though to the staff who were amazing, friendly, and didn't want to turn away someone who wanted to learn, and then proceeded to teach me at each exhibit in depth. They also took some extra time to help coax a young lady with a phobia of insects. Fantastic staff.
Very cool attraction, especially if ya have the kids with you. Very interactive and also informative. I have gone a few times now and still will go again.
Had an incredible and unforgettable time! So many cool bugs & holding a stick bug was pretty much the coolest thing ever!
So much fun. The staff was very knowledgeable and entertaining. They knew their bugs and enjoyed talking about them. I leaned a lot and got to home a couple of them! Highly recommend. Plan an hour or so, it's not that big.
The guide was extremely good, and knowledgeable. The opportunity to hold most of the insects is great. Arrive before the last hour of opening, otherwise you may not be able to have the full tour before the 'insects go to sleep'
Fun for the family come check out the bugs theres all sorts from tarantulas to ants to butterflys. We were guided by Ash who was a lovely help and answered all our questions. Thanks for such an awesome time!
Small place with big stories about Bugs. Great people who works there. Kids love this place. And parents too. A place you must visit if you like bugs and life.
Outstanding guide who knows her bugs very well. Her enthusiasm was amazing and we were given atleast five opportunities to hold different kinds of bugs.
A small zoo kind of off the main road, but super cute. There are a few bugs you can handle, and they had plastic bin full of spider moltings you could touch. Neato for kids who like bugs!
i was so excited to be going to the bug zoo with my husband and our 2 and 4 year old. kids loved looking at the bugs and me and my husband did too until I realized it was only 2 rooms of bugs. but it was fun. kinda overpriced for just having 2 rooms.
very kind staff, they talk a lot about beetles, spiders and show them. children listen with open mouths????
They give you a tour and let you hold some of the bugs. Very educational and fun for my 10 year old and me. He plans to return when he's 23 to check on the Ant colony.
Great little place to go with family, really weird bugs it was pretty fun going to this place
My 3 year old and I loved this place! Inexpensive ($12!!) and lots of fun and educational. It's basically 2 large rooms with lots of bug terrariums. A staff member was always giving an "open tour" to people by explaining the bugs and taking them out and allowing everyone to hold them. Kiddo held a stick bug and I held various mantises and leaf bugs. Go here! It is amazing and fun and just a really cool experience.
Super interactive. Guide explained everything very well. I even overcame my fear of tarantulas because of this visit!
A little smaller and more expensive than I expected but where else can you go and hold a tarantula? Avoid weekends, it’s just too small for the number of people they sometimes get, especially if you want to take in the free guided tour.
This place was fantastic! At first you think it's small acale- but every single enclosure has a multitude of interesting information! A guy went around removing bugs from each tank to allow the children to interact. What a great visit
Small but great ! We got a tour with David. It was fantastic ! Children and parents will love the place. Perfect to learn and have fun at the same time.
If you are in Victoria and have kids, you should visit the bug zoo. Many different species, interesting gift shop, and great staff. Inside, the staff were all willing to teach people about the many different bugs such as the ant colony, black widow and many others.
This place is great for curious adults and kids. It's two modest sized rooms full of exhibits. But bugs don't really take up a lot of space and the guides are really friendly and interactive and full of knowledge. I really consider the guide experience to be the best part of the bug zoo. It's very rare to get this type of interactive experience with an expert on so many different type of bugs!
Located in central Victoria. The Bug zoo is a small, but well stock bug zoo. In it you will find very large walking sticks, praying mantis, glow in the dark scorpions, hairy tarantulas and a leafcutter ant colony, which contains 1.7 million ants meandering through a very large an well elaborate tunnel. Also, the Bug Zoo has a gift shop, offering products from T-shirts to bugs candy. A lovely place to take your children or to go by yourself. No tapping on the glass and no hugging the tarantulas!
Pretty interesting, not as many species as I was hoping for, but definately worth checking out if you are in the neighbourhood and want to cross "hold a tarantula" off your bucket list!
The staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. The insects were really cool, and the opportunity to hold a tarantula is highly recommended (must be 18+). A wonderful experience overall!
Went for a child's birthday party. Our tour guide was fantastic! Lots of knowledge about the bugs and great rapport with the kids!
This place is really worth to go. Great experience. My kids loved it. Even for adults it is very interesting.
We had a blast here today. The staff were great, and has answers to all our questions about all the bugs. If you're into bugs at all, we highly recommend checking it out.
Friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging! I was a lot braver than I thought I would be initially! Our main tour guide was so incredibly kind and enthusiastic, she was one of the best parts of my trip for sure!
????
Very cool to be able to touch and hold the friendly bugs! The guide was fun and informative, great place for kids as well.
If you travel to Victoria as a family with kids, I believe you should visit here. It’s a very small place, basically 2 mid-size rooms, but kids would really enjoy it. The staff are SUPER nice and passionate about what they do. You cannot hold the bugs or tarantulas (at least after covid) but staff will take one of the tarantulas in their hand for you if you want to take any photos. They do have a nice little shop to buy souvenirs as well
Fantastic experience! We got an amazing guide, Ash, who made me feel totally comfortable around the bugs. I walked in terrified and by the end I was happy to hold almost any bug. Very knowledgeable and good energy as well. Highly recommend!!
We haven't been to the bug zoo for over 5 years and it was mildly interesting for myself and two teenagers. They seemed to have enjoyed it more when they were younger. Even with a coupon, it seemed the price was a bit high for what you seeing. We maybe had s better experience if it wasn't too too busy. I Thought the blue scorpion was pretty cool though
Amazing display of live insects, arachnids, and other bugs. Adults can hold a turantula. The presenter was very fun. Keeping both kids and adults entertained with his stories and gesticulations.
The bug zoo is always a fun treat for my little bug enthusiast! The staff is always friendly and the educators are knowledgeable and provide fun facts for the kids to remember. You cannot touch the bugs but they're more than happy to bring them out to show you. Once you enter the second room you can't go back so just make sure you take a full tour of the first room before you move on. Masks are still required to keep all the little friends safe! I love the bug zoo and learn something new everytime we go!
So much fun with giant ant colony and would be great to bring children to, and also has a great gift shop for kids and dried crickets, larvae ect that you can buy and eat
Very nice little place. Maybe a little too expensive for such a small place , otherwise it was ok .
A must visit for any child! The curator is so patient with the kids and takes the time to really explain the bugs and help the kids experience them as well. The bug lollipops are popular too. A great way to freak out mommy. Haha... Very easy to find and within walking distance of most hotels and the Legislature.
Loved seeing the different bugs and honestly the only reason it's not five stars is because I wish that there were more bugs to see. The lead cutter ants were a favourite for my son and I.
Friendly staff amazing service and fun for the whole family and very informational they really love to teach you about all the bugs would love to go again
Had a really great time with my boyfriend and his nephew. I had no idea the zoo gave tours and our tour guide Ash was knowledgeable, engaging (for both young and old) and obviously loves his job. He made the insects 100x more interesting than if we'd just read the info cards. The Bug Zoo should be on everyone's list for a visit.
What a delight. Ash and Jayme were the guides today and their knowledge and enthusiasm were outstanding. The zoo is just a couple of rooms, but boy can you cram a lot of bugs into two rooms. Got to get up close and personal with a bunch of these critters. Truly amazing experience. There aren't enough places left in the world that glorify the little invertebrates that make up 99% of this planets population. Thanks for a great day, Victoria bug zoo! :)
Great for kids and very friendly staff
Great time for the family! The educators inside the museum are amazing!! Such a good time!
There are very few bugs to check out and its expensive. The main attraction is the big spider that you can hold in your hands, but unfortunately kids are not allowed to hold it
The Bug Zoo is a great hands on experience for both children and adults alike. Your inner child and inquisitive will behold a bananza of creeping crawlers of every size and color. From tiny ants to foot long stick bugs you will get to see, hear, and touch a multitude of amazing critters. It's a great experience and prices well. Give it a go
I loved the bug zoo, even as an adult! I learned a few things, got to hold some interesting bugs. Will definitely go back. Would recommend it for kids and adults both.
Very exciting experience for all ages! Our guide had Steve Irwin enthusiasm and knowledge about more than just the on site critters. We were given the opportunity to hold a few including a large millipede and cockroach! Excellent learning experience, very engaging! Check out the elaborate ant farm! Good work guys.
The staff are very enthusiastic and their bugs are very cute! Loved every minute spent there.
We probably spent 2 hours with our 3 small children in here listening to the insect expert. Such a wonderful way to kill some time with kids. We were also with a small group of young adults who had just as much fun as my kids.
Small place with lots of bugs. The guide continuously rotates through the exhibits letting the kids and adults hold and touch the insects. Staff is friendly and fairly knowledgeable.
I went into this very nervous as I’m not a huge fan of bugs. Though I love and respect all living creatures, I usually keep the creepy crawlies far away from me HOWEVER… the Bug Zoo was honestly so much fun. All the little critters in there are so well taken care of and very loved. The staff are all so friendly and very knowledgeable. They changed my mind on how I feel about black widows so if that doesn’t make you want to go, I don’t know what will. I highly recommend making a stop here. You’ll learn so much and if you’re lucky, you might get to hold/touch a new little friend!
I go here every year with my Grade 8 class and the kids love it! The staff is friendly and they do a good job with their guided tour. The idea of looking at and even holding bugs can be scary to a lot of people but the staff do a great job of engaging the kids and making the experience fun for everyone! The displays are kept clean and well maintained. Their store is a great way to end the tour, as students are given the opportunity to buy bug toys and snacks. If you are in Victoria and haven't been here, add it to your list of things to do!
Ash was super engaging, the talks obviously steered towards kid groups but he was really entertaining and informative. Learnt a lot, overcame some fears and handled big creepy crawlies. Didn't expect to spend 2 hours there but so worth it! Do this instead of miniature world round the corner... ????
Neat place to visit, get to handle some crazy little bugs!
Great place for children and adults - staff are caring and informative. Large leaf cutter ant colony, and able to hold some of the insects. Intimate spot in downtown Victoria, with easy parking on the street with self operating meters. We stop here every time he visit Victoria.
Oh wow. Just awesome. They have a wonderful array of insects and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. They also let you hold certain insects. It's a great place to learn a lot. They are open till 4 on weekdays and till 5 on weekends. This place is very well maintained. The room is fairly warm though because they have to keep it like for the insects. They do have a place to hang your coats or jackets and they also keep any bags you have on you. A must go.
Basically one parent went in there who was fully vaccinated. I didn't buy a ticket but manager checked my vaccine passport and stamped my wife so they cannot touch bugs because I'm partially vaccinated and I didn't go inside. So technically I should not show them my passport and they had no right to restrict them from the full entertaiment. This is the same as if she comes with kids alone and they wouldn't check my passport anyway. To my request to show their policies saying that manager refused and started threating me with a call to bylaws with absolutely no reason for that. Manager started pretending that she is calling... and....noone have showed up even I was waiting longer to talk to them. It was pretty clear there is no such rediculas rules. Absolutely unprofessional behavior.
The guide was funny and informative and very patient with the kids. It was extremely fun holding all the bugs and learning about them
As an adult, it was a fun experience and well worth checking out. There is are very entertaining tour guides who let you hold some of the bugs if you are careful.
The kids didn't want to go when we told them about our plans to attend, but they loved it. Great staff and a great collection of bugs from around the world. The ant colony is amazing!
Such fun!!!! Jason was a great guide. They have amazing bugs. Who doesn't want to hold a tarantula?
Wow! What a fun experience for our whole family! Both the adults and kids really enjoyed it immensely. The staff here are absolutely top-notch. The guide inside the zoo itself was truly passionate about bugs and super-knowledgeable. Our guide was amazing. Even the front-desk gal was great to deal with. Inside, it's not a huge facility by any means, but very immersive. Good selection of bugs and some great setups. The Leaf-Cutter Ant setup was really cool. There are even a few opportunities to handle some of the bugs with the guide.
Great place to see and learn about bugs.
Great place with varieties of spectacular spider. Even you can have spider on your hand also if you are lucky. I had one and it feels awesome. Must visit if you are in Vancouver Island. Will definitely recommend to all of my friends and others.
Small, two room bug exhibit. Great for young ones who want to learn more about exotic insects and arachnids!
Really engaging, knowledgeable and funny tour of the bug zoo from the onsite staff member, Tyler, made this a highlight of our trip to Victoria. Our family got to hold a tarantula, giant cockroach, and touch a huge millipedes legs.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I will. The staff are super knowledgeable and can take some of the bugs out of their enclosures for a closer look.
I was a tad skeptical at first but afterwards thought it was super interesting and well worth it. The zookeepers (?) were incredibly well-spoken, knowledgeable, and passionate about their bugs!
The staff here is friendly, knowledgable, and didn't force me to touch a bug! I'm really happy I came here!
We went there not know what to expect but what we got was and amazing experience, learning about all the different creepy crawlies. The guide was SUPER enthusiastic which made it so fun!!
Great place! So many cool things for the kids and adults to look at. The ant colony that goes across the room is so cool. They have lots of people out to give you info and even let you hold some of the bugs! 5 out of 5
Awesome. If you have kids 4 to 8 this is a hit. Matt was our guide and was good with the kids and the bugs. Best $35 you can spend for 4 people.
I hate bugs and have entomophobia, especially arachnophobia. I went to face my phobia and at the urging of my brother who loves bugs. I did not enjoy looking at any of the bugs and I'm sure it showed on my face. The guide was very knowledgeable, nice and very patient. Of course when she took some of the bugs out, I was hounded by my brother and niece, but encouraged by the guide to touch them. A humongous black centipede was wrapped around my wrist like a bracelet...hated it! But the fear kicked in with the fuzzy tarantula. It was placed on the top of my hand which was squeezing the blood out of the guide's hand...bless her heart. So, did the visit help with my phobia? Doubt it and I don't think I'd want to visit again to find out. I minus 1 star for the centipede and tarantula experience.
Excellent zoo! Alyssa our tour guide was really excited about the bugs and clearly knew a ton about them, and that made for a really fun tour.
Exploring the Bug Zoo is a must for a visitor (or local) in Victoria. The rooms where the bugs live are warm and inviting. The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. They love sharing the bizarre and wonderful bug trivia. Give yourself at least a couple of hours to explore. Two thumbs up! Thanks for the tour, Liz! :-)
Great place to learn about the diversity of the insect and arachnid world! Guides will periodically take (safe) insects out, and let people hold them.
So cool! Tons of different bugs from around the world, living and dead. It's interactive and staff will pass around stick bugs, praying mantis, leaf bugs, and more. One of the highlights of my weekend trip to Victoria.
Great experience! Young staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a good time visiting this little spot! Thank you! ????
The staff were so knowledgeable and accommodating! You learn a lot and get to see (and hold!) some amazing creepy crawlies!
It was smaller than expected but the staff was very informative. Not really a big tour but there is someone inside with a wealth of knowledge. If you love bugs. This is the place to go! My kids had other feelings the toy shop was great. They tried to touch a couple but could not do it. Would I go in again? Maybe for a field trip for educational reason.
Very neat little place. Me and my sister went and had a wonderful experience looking at bugs and talking to employees.
Lots of cool insects, spiders and other critters. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If you have kids and they like bugs you have to take them here
Interesting collection of different insects/bugs (over 50 species). My daughter enjoyed the guided tour. Tour can take 45 mins or longer. So make sure to make allowance for parking meter time. Staffs are friendly and knowledgeable. It's a bit warm inside for the insects/bugs. Make sure to bring some bottled water too if staying for the whole tour. Highly recommended for children and bug lovers!
Fun little museum with about an hour of entertainment packed in. Two rooms with lots of bugs - the second room has a very impressive ant colony in clear pipes circling part of the room. The gal giving the tour was very knowledgeable and had answers for all of our questions. Loved being able to hold one of the tarantulas, and got some unique items from the gift store! Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes bugs and learning!
It was smaller then I expected, but was still pretty cool! Kids loved it.
The young lady who was in the exhibit made the day! She was so friendly and knowledgeable! Im so happy she was a part of the show!
Run by super knowledgeable staff. The kids were excited about the stick bugs and tarantulas, but the leafcutter ant colony was super fascinating to me. Happy to see them following COVID protocols - mask usage and proof of vaccination needed to enter.
This is a lovely mini zoo. After staff Ash told 1 hour plus stories for every bug stand, my son and I started to love bugs, although my daughter was very sleepy as it was her nap time. Great place to visit.
Such a delightful place to visit and at a great value cost wise! Even if you are squeamish or scared of bugs it is a great experience for the whole family. The zoo part itself is warm, bright and not intimidating if you are nervous around insects. There is plenty to enjoy for everyone. Live creatures, beautiful displays of preserved insects and information galore! The staff are friendly, informative and really pass along their love of these creatures to the guests. The hands-on experiences are not to miss! I really appreciated the openness of the space, despite it being on the small side. Easily accessible if you have mobility issues; both to get to the zoo and to move around inside. They also have step stools throughout for little ones to get a better view. If you are wanting something affordable to do with the family on an afternoon - tourist or local alike - then take a trip to the Bug Zoo! It's sure to be an enjoyable time!
VERY small.. wouldn't recommend this for younger kids, but it would be great for older kids who want to take the time and look at all the insects closely!
One of the coolest places I have ever been and the staff is very knowledgeable.
Great exhibit. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. A lot of fun if you want to see and learn about insects, arachnids and the like. But even more exciting if you're interested in interacting with them. Even my 2 year old enjoyed it and learned a lot.
Very cool selection of bugs to look at. The staff was very knowledgeable and kept the tour interesting. It's a continuous loop so you can come.and go, depending on your interest. Holding the bugs is definitely a highlight!
At first we were a little underwhelmed, but then the guide started talking. We learned all about the various insects and got to see and even hold some. The talk held their attention and petting and holding the bugs was a highlight of our trip.
So much fun and entertainment in such a small place. Our guide (I have forgotten his name, forgive me) was super informative and very entertaining. It was easy to see he was super passionate about his job, and informing others. It would be very possible to be in and out in 20 minutes having seen everything, but to really get the most out of it listen to the guides and ask questions. You will be well rewarded, and before you know it, 2 or more hours will have gone by in a flash.
This zoo is the best! You get to hold so many bugs! One of the tour guides was super knowledgable and could answer most of my questions. It was way more fun than I thought it would be
It was the first place I went to during my first travel to Victoria. It didn't disappoint my family and me. Two guides were informative - I learned a lot. I absolutely recommend.
I had a wonderful time here! The bug zoo is all indoors and well signposted. There are various interesting exhibits and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. Jaymie (I hope I spelt that correctly) was super interesting to talk to, they knew alot of cool facts, took their time to answer all our questions and even give us a closer look at some of the bugs. Bear in mind that due to covid protocols, guests aren't allowed to hold any of the insects, but we had a great time nonetheless. All in, with a browse around the gift shop, we took about an hour here. I'd recommend this place for families, there's plenty of toys in the shop and step stools for little ones to stand on to look into some of the cases.
Was the best time.ive had around creepy crawling insects. The employee showing us around was very nice and had lots of information. I will be going back again.
Awesome! I got to hold a centipede and learn a lot about the insect world. The beatles are absolutely fascinating. If beatles were the size of cows, they'd definetly hunt humans. Or maybe it would be the other way around? I'd love it if we domesticated giant beatles. Imagine riding on one! It'd be like sitting on top of a tank. Also, fun fact: praying mantises pretty much have to kill and eat each other from the moment they're born. My one complaint is that they don't allow children to hold tarantulas. Tarantulas are deadly and can blind you, yeah, but they're also fluffy lil' monsters. I really despise spiders, but the day I was declined the oppurtunity to hold a tarantula, my 12 year old self's heart shattered.
Very knowledgeable staff who know many facts about their various insects. Kind guides who understand that stepping foot into a bug zoo was already out of our comfort zone so they didn't force us to be interested in the scarier bigger bugs. (If you're nervous about the bigger bugs, just ask about the ants!! They were so cool!)
Excellent staff with the best tour guide I've ever had. He was great with teaching children and is very humorous. You get to touch all types of insects. The building is smaller so expect to be there for about an hour.
Don't take your under 2 kid here. It's small, full of school groups and hard for small kids to appreciate. Would probably be more appropriate for older kids. They seemed to have good talks and education sessions for the older school kids.
Small space..staff was knowledgeable and friendly
This is a great venue to bring the family. Many cool bugs in clear displays. Staff was pleasant and had lots of good information for the questions from all the kids and adults alike!
Great spot for all ages. We ended up getting the annual pass, my son had so much fun. Really educational too... The staff are great about letting you touch the bugs!
Bugs from all over the world! Great place to check out while in Victoria, and not just for kids! Knowledge staff and engaging experience.
Cute place, good education for kids. Quite small so a bit pricey for the cost. We were done in just over 30 mins.
The bug zoo is awesome! The tour guides are super knowledgeable and fun! I love being able to hold the "bugs" too. It's a great experience!!
Nice museum, full of bugs. It is not a large place but you can easily spent an hour there, learning a lot about the bugs and even holding some of them. Very enthusiastic guides.
Great place to explore bugs! The staff are very knowledgeable about it and friendly :)
Went a number of years ago with my girls not really expecting much. Had a fantastic tour and I was brave enough to hold any insect that was offered. My girls were pretty impressed! The ant walls were fascinating and gave us all a below ground idea into what these insects do. Would go again even without my girls!
Thought this was only for kids, but ended up spending over 2 hrs here! Amazing tour guides and I learned so much. I even held Rose the tarantula and she was lovely. Would recommend to everyone.
Absolutely incredible! It's small, but the tour guides are outstanding!!! They answered every single question and let us interact with any bug that it was safe to do so. A must-see!!!
This place was amazing, its not just for kids its for big people like me. I learned big people stuff there and have a new appreciation for all bugs.
My kids LOVED this place. The tours were very informative and entertaining. I think the prices are fair for the content. There is an option to tip the tour guides but no pressure to do so. The only reason I don’t give this a five star is that the facility is dated and could benefit from a refresh.
Lots of bugs! You can even hold some of the bugs. Staff is very knowledgeable, too. Great place to take the insect lover in your family!
Small place but my kid really enjoyed it
Really fun experience! Holding and seeing all the critters was a neat experience. Jaymie was a wonderful guide!
The staff are very friendly and they have lots of cool bugs!
Very educational, our kids had an absolute blast!
The staff here are friendly, knowlegable and encouraging when showing their "residents" to the public. It is a memorable place for grandparents to take their grandchildren to. Maybe a bit unnerving with the teranchila spiders, but a great memory maker.
Great place it's one of the most amazing places I had visited .My family really enjoyed the whole tour around the facility with the staff .the staff are very friendly .
What a great moment with Owen and the visit by Ash. We learned so many things from those little bugs. I had a bad fear about bugs in general but spider was the worse Ash explained us in a perfect way and yes we touched a dead spider! Thank you for this amazing visit. I definitely recommended it for people like me or with kids who just want to spend a good moment and learn new things about bug friends. Do not think it's a big zoo is just a visit 45 minutes is way enough to understand and see everything.
I had some time to kill in Victoria and decided to head to the bug museum. I am not the biggest fan of bugs but thought it would be cool. I was not disappointed they have several bugs and children and adults are given the option to hold several of the species which is fun. The staff is great and are good at making the information interesting and fun for the kids. The size of the place was a little underwhelming and some of the exhibits were a little rough around the edges. Overall great staff and cool place.
Cool place, love the insects. Some staff knowledgeable others are not. One staff was legit wearing pajamas pants at work, can't get on board with this kind of messiness. Owners should look at their staff and who is representing their business.
Our kids were looking forward to the Bug Zoo since we started planning our visit to Victoria. It was relatively small, but lots of different types of bugs to check out. The guides were very enthusiastic & eager to share cool facts about bugs. Our daughter’s into food so she also got an ant lollipop ????
Both kids loved it, i loved it, who doesn't love bugs :) Staff was fantastic ????
The place is very small and gets pretty crowded ok a saturday morning. For the price we paid $30 ( 2 adults & 2 kids), it was a bit expensice for only 30 minutes that we were there. It was just a few tanks of bugs and a lit of kids and parents. Felt too chaotic so we didnt follow the "tour" and just left.
Oh my. Bugs lovers, you will enjoy this place a lot. And no, none of them is on the loose. Kid and adults can hold them with guides supervision!
I took my niece from Ontario on a city adventure. Our first stop was the bug zoo. What a cool place. All of the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was fascinating - it was just the right balance of hands on and interesting facts. I held a scorpion, tarantula, stick-bug, leaf-bug, and several other "bugs." If you live in Victoria or are visiting hit up the bug zoo for an adventure. (FYI I hate spiders) but that experience was awesome! My nieces review (six years old) - I loved it! My banana ant sucker was delicious.
Great people that work here. Really friendly and knowledgeable.
The place is pretty small, mostly for little kids. There are many different species of insects to observe or hold. Definitely worth checking out for the first time if you are in Victoria.
10/10 would recommend. Even though I didn't get to hold one any of them. I'll go back when I can. The entire staff was very knowledgeable and gave me soo much information. Definitely a spot to check out.
Tour guide was especially great. Small museum (but so are insects!), easy to do in an hour. Nice little gift shop, friendly staff.
Great place for kids and adults as well. Super friendly staff. You get to hold some bugs if you like.
The staff were super knowledgeable, however the zoo was very underwhelming for what you pay. It's basically 2 little rooms and you're done in 20 minutes...
One of my favorite places to be. Don't tell my kids but sometimes I visit without them so that I can spend extra time hanging out with the bugs...
I love this place. Informative guides to walk through exhibits, and you get to hold some of the less pinchy bugs. Was quite busy last time we were there so it can get a bit cramped.
Awesome little bug zoo with various types of ants, stuck bugs, mantises, and tarantulas +others. Although not a huge place, what really makes this place is the ultra passionate and knowledgeable staff. They love their bugs and would love to share them with you :)
A fascinating experience fit for children and adults alike! Would definitely recommend to families with young kids to educate them on the many walks on life from the tiniest bugs to the most common of insects!
Teenagers who said no, please don't make us go there... loved it. The ant colony was the family favorite. Highly recommend it. Maybe not for those afraid of spiders.
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff showed our kids bugs are to be loved not feared.
Awesome and interesting! Great to listen to the expert speak, he is very fun and informative!
A great little spot to learn a thing or two about what ‘bugs’ you! My 3.5 yr old absolutely loved it and we went around to everything least twice. The staff were lovely and friendly, and super knowledgeable, being able answer any question thrown at them. We had the chance to hold several neat insects, but we will have to go back when ‘we’ are feeling braver about holding the tarantula.
Really great place to see and interact with many creatures from stickbugs to Brazilian Rose Hair tarantulas. Was visiting Victoria for 2 days and I took my father to the Bug Zoo and he really enjoyed himself.
Really just two smallish rooms of bugs and w bigger gift store
So much fun for the kids. Our guide was so enthusiastic about the bugs she took away any concerns the kids had. Brilliant tour. Well worth the trip.
The staff were knowledgeable and passionate about the bugs. I would have liked the exhibit to be a little larger. I liked the spiders the most.
Was super fun and very interactive. The girl who was the guide really knows her stuff and isn't afraid to answer any questions. Will definitely be back!
incredibly informative, this is perfect for kids or adults. took a date there, and nothing bonds a couple like holding millipedes and tarantulas together. the bugs are well cared for and the employees seem to adore working there.
Great information on all the exotic bugs from the tour guide. It's so much fun when the kids get to hold the real bugs!
Great guided tour, lots of interesting facts and you get to hold some of the insects. Could be a bit bigger but what they have is really cool. Price was fair for the size and quality of the exhibit.
This was way smaller than I expected. It only consisted of two rooms. There was a tour guide, who was really good. But you had to join the tour when you arrive. The group was quite large and it was hard to see when you were with the group. We wandered around and looked ourselves. With our 3, 5 and 7 year olds we were there for about 30 min. Not worth the money in my opinion.
It was a blast; My kid and I got to hold jungle nymphs, tree lobsters, and hissing cockroaches. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining. Would recommend.
A must-see for bug aficionados of any age! The bug zoo is small, but boasts a varied collection of live insects you'd be hard-pressed to find many places elsewhere in BC. The staff are all extremely passionate and knowledgeable, too!
This place is very much a tourist trap. There were a relatively small number of bugs to take in and the location itself was not very large. My children enjoyed it but you can see everything there is in about 20 minutes. If you have kids that are into bugs give it a shot but cost/value is questionable.
The staff here were knowledgable and keen to share what they knew! A fun and affordable activity for kids and adults alike. Ask to hold things if interested! They have lots of friendly bugs ☺️
Very hot and humid inside so take water with you, the tour is informative, I enjoy it with my family. About two hours to take it all in
Amazing little place!! My family spent over an hour here, so much to see! Staffs are amazing friendly :) 5 stars!!
A cool place to visit in Victoria. The tour guide was funny and knowledgeable which made it much more interesting. You get to hold some bugs and spiders if you're brave enough. They also have very reasonably priced souvenirs. All around good experience.
One of the BEST places to visit in Victoria. Our son had his birthday party there too and the staff were amazing the kids said it was the best birthday party ever. Can’t recommend it enough for educational value and fun and staff who really get kids and adults!
The guides are awesome and very knowledgeable and appreciated how they took several bugs out of their enclosures for us to take a closer look at. We kind of expected there to be more space, and more bugs.
One of my favourite places to go everytime I am I'm Victoria. It's great for EVERYONE. Perfect for helping quell your insect or bug fears.
My four years old love yo come every weekend to see the bugs. She really want to became a vet to help the animals.
We loved this! Great for any age! Ash was amazing, he knows his bugs! Ash clearly has a passion for this and it definitely showed when he was touring us around. Lots of fun facts! Never overwhelmed with info. Awesome hands on moments!
My son and I loved the Bug Zoo! The owners took the time with our group to tell us about all the different bugs, their habits and allowed us to hold a few of them. Great experience and an awesome place to learn about the bug world and have fun while doing it.
Small but really enjoyable. Liz did a great job educating the kids on a lot of the insects, arachnids etc. and kept it interesting for everyone! She really made it a lot more interesting than if we had just walked through.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great hands on experience.
The tour was really informative, lots of cool stuff to learn about bugs.
I've been to the bug zoo multiple times and it's always a great experience for me. I love seeing the variety of bugs they have, and they have a pretty sweet gift shop too. Staff are always very friendly! It's a great place to learn about bugs, no matter your age. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Had a fantastic tour guide who was happy to answer all our questions, and the bug selection was A+
Very cool! Being able to hold some of the bugs was great. Karlee was very knowledgeable about the insect and a great guide.
5 stars for guides 3 stars for one room Butterfly garden has a similar exhibit that I prefer but again the guides at the bug zoo are amazing, entertaining show, great with children
The curators is like a Bugs on Bugs. He know everything. The insects and spiders aquariums are well maintained.
A hidden gem in Victoria. The homebrew, 2-room 'zoo' might at first seem a bit pricy, but there's well over an hour's worth of entertainment in there. The guides are patient, friendly, and exceedingly knowledgeable. They're also happy to let you hold most of the insects in the zoo. Great variety of stick insects!
Small but fun for my toddler (and myself). This is definitely worth a yearly membership if your kids like bugs.
Great place for kids! Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Only 3 stars because it was sooo hot in there. I realize it needs to be warm for the bug environment but when you add in the body heat of 50 guests it's too hot. Needs a bench or two for parents and grandparents to sit.
More a place for kids. Lots of bugs but fairly common species. Some displays are good while others look thrown together. Overall ok place to go see once.
Great place to spend a couple hours, either as a local or a tourist. They keep the zoo warm for the bugs, so bringing a water bottle might be a good idea. It's a relatively small zoo but there's tons to learn and see, and the guides are FANTASTIC and really know their stuff. Props to Owen in particular for patiently answering all of our questions and being great with the little kids!
Wow, this was such a fantastic experience. Owen and Ash were not only incredibly knowledgable but respected my fear of spiders and helped me understand them. I left with a new respect for all those creatures that I never thought I would have. Thanks guys!
Pretty small place, but... It's very nice. Just nice unless you meet a good guide - our guide was Christine, and it was amazing and funny experience because of her tour. Recommended.
Small space but fits lots of bugs, if you take your time well worth the trip. Have been a few times over the years to take the kids and each time is just as interesting as the last.
This is a unique place to visit. Where else can you hold a tarantula? Still a favourite of my grown daughter and although my granddaughter who is 7 years old liked walking around and looking at the various bugs, she didn’t want to touch or hold anything offered. I have been there when it’s busy though and it’s quite a different experience than when there are less people. If you can choose a time to go when there aren’t so many people you will enjoy it a lot more. The staff is so knowledgeable and amazing!
Our favourite place on the entire island. The staff are INCREDIBLE and we learn so much every time we go. It doesn't matter if you're a nervous 4 year old or a 95 year old insect expert, they know how to make your visit the best experience it can be.
The tour guides really make the experience. My 5yr old loved it. He even got to hold some of the insects and I got to hold a turantula. Scary but fun.
It was a great experience you get to see so many different bugs spiders scorpions etc Also you can hold trantula, scorpion cockroaches in your hands. Pretty cool
Beware terrible customer service!!!! Website “buy tickets” link showed it was $12 per adult but when I got to Victoria Bug Zoo location they said it was $14 per adult. I spent the time to speak to the manager and she was unapologetic and even after I pulled up the website and showed her where it showed $12 she would not honor it. Beware terrible customer service!!!! Don’t have a button pop up on your website that then shows your pricing wrong and be unwilling to honor it.????????????????????????
I was rather disappointed. Its great for children, but the species of bugs was less than expected. Stick bugs, leaf bugs, tarantulas and some ants was pretty much all they had. Tiny backroom "museum".
Really fun place for the kids to experience all kinds of bugs. The specialists they have walking the floor really take the time to explain all the bugs to the kids and are very disarming for those with phobias.
Great place to spend about 1.5 hours whilst the tour guide takes you through the various insects and spiders here. We had Ash, a very informative and entertaining guide. The place is kept at 26 degC and high humidity, so if it's cold out, wear clothes that make sense in that kind of temperature.
Great for kids! Educational and interactive. The curators have an impressive ability to share their knowledge and passion with guests.
Two rooms of interesting bugs. About an hours worth of entertainment give or take. A good stop if it is raining, although the BC Museum is much better value.
Two bright rooms of learning and excitement! Tour guides are enthusiastic and informative, bugs are photogenic and leggy.
The Bug Zoo is marketed as a fun and educational exhibit with guides allowing visitors to hold the specimens. Unfortunately, the time I went, the guide had nearly finished the tour, with no follow-up tour guide that day. A front office staff, then proceeded to usher everyone out. Without the requisite tour guide present, as promoted, you can literally enter/exit the attraction within minutes. No attendant; no paddle. Please inform guests if a tour is currently in progress, and if there will be additional tours prior to ticket purchase. I’ll give the zoo the benefit of the doubt (maybe they forgot), but that time, it felt a bit like a hucksters sideshow.
A fun learning experience for all! This centre has a hands on approach which is amazing for all ages. No matter who you are you will always leave having learnt something fanisnating about our tiny bug friends! It is also wheelchair accessible.
Loved my visit here! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and there were lots of super cool species. You can hold many (not all) of them and take pictures of your experience. I learned way more than I expected to, and walked away with a newfound respect and appreciation for these fascinating "bugs". I will definitely be going again.
Great place to take the kids Reserve a time online so you can just walk rite in amazing critters at this zoo with staff who are very friendly professional and knowledgeable about the life forms at their zoo We had a great time thank you
Such a great place to learn about the intricate lives of bugs. The staff were so informative about the bugs. Our two kids (aged 5 & 3.5) were engrossed! Thank you to the team there.
It's an awesome place to learn about bugs and insects. They even have ant candy! Kids will have a great time there.
If you love bugs this is the place for you.. lots of exotic and local bugs to learn about. Staff are friendly and very smart. I just wished it was a little bigger as it can feel cramped on a busy day.
Informative and friendly staff. My sons learned a lot and found the exhibit interesting. You can go through very quickly.
Visited this hidden gem recently and was amazed by the quality engaged educators, service, and family fun this place offers! …
We took our 4 year old to see the bug zoo and we loved it as much as she did. I recommend anyone who comes here latches on to the demonstrations done by the staff. You can join in at any point and they continuously loop around the rooms so you can see everything and then drop away. We listened to both guides Ash and a female member of staff who I totally forgot to check her name which is my fault. Both of them were incredibly knowledgeable, engaging to all visitors and you could tell they care about the creatures. Some reviews here knock the price which is fair if you just glance at each tank and leave so make sure you tack on to the guide! Thanks for a very fun afternoon.
I went there in the morning, and luckily, I was just on time for an group tour. The tour guide is really resourceful, and she does a very good job when explaining. It takes about 45 min to an hour to finish the tour. I really enjoyed the tour. This museum is great for all ages.
My 3 kids loved it! All 3 staff were great, friendly and answered all my kids questions. Glad we went!
Really interesting place, I definitely learned about some new insects. And plus they have turtles ????
Quite small and not very welcoming for toddlers. The staff wasn't overly friendly and it was over priced. But if you're really into bugs, you will probably enjoy it.
Be brave and hold the insects! If you have Jess as your tour guide she is great!
Super fun experience, went by myself and the employees were absolutely lovely and informative. Recommend leaving electronics at home not in the actual zoo part as the room is very warm.
My kids loved it! They range in age from 4 -24. The exhibit is relatively small, but the guides are very informative and fun.
My 3 year old granddaughter my daughter and myself loved it! The people working there have so much knowledge. Just amazing ???? can't wait to go back after covid. They answered every question my granddaughter had ???? made her feel important ☺ thankyou!
Very cool. Staff are ecstatic about bugs and full of knowledge.
Boyfriend and I are afraid of bugs & insects but thought we'd face our fears for Valentines day. So cool! They had a little tour and brought the insects out. It was really fun.
Disappointed. Visited the zoo with 3 kids ages 7, 9 and 14. The zoo is very small and we were back outside in only 20 minutes. Not good value.
Went here while visiting Victoria and had a really enjoyable time. The staff were really knowledgeable and were presenting most of the time we were there. They had a lot of information about all of the insects and took many of them out for us to hold. They also had a good exhibit on ant colonies, and all the information was well-written, engaging and accessible. Great place for kids and adults alike!
We visited the Bug Zoo on October 14, 2020 at 11:00 am, and got a tour with Owen. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things bug and bug related, and explained everything in layman’s terms for people who know nothing about them (eg. Me and my girlfriend). We were two adults stopping in with no children before anyone had arrived, so we got to have a pretty extensive chat while walking around the zoo with him. While I’m sure he’s great with kids, his understanding of evolution, genetics and biology shined through talking with us undergrads. We discussed evolutionary theories, shared traits and measures of consciousness and empathy in bugs. He taught me that there’s not only still a lot to learn about bugs, but so much more to be learned about the history of life and intelligence on earth through the study of bugs. Thanks Owen!
Jayson was extremely friendly and very informative and helped me get over my fears of spiders it was a life changing experience.
I was really unimpressed, I was expecting to see bugs from around the world, nearly everything in there can be found in a pet store. It really more for very young children, the leaf cutter ants were the only thing worth seeing really. For what we were charged I was really expecting a lot more. The staff member from the tour was very knowledgeable and engaged with the patrons very well, they really need more variety of bugs.
Interesting for those children who hadn't been there. It was a bit crowded. Worth a look if you haven't been exposed to exotic insects up close. Plus, you can buy yummy insect treats in the lobby/gift shop.
We spent about 30 minutes inside, my son surprised me with how much he knows about bugs. Great place to bring your family. Due to covid, limited capacity, Remember to book ahead, we booked on Saturday for a Sunday morning spot.
Amazing , All the staff were very informative and patient with children. Recommend planning ahead and booking online as they can get very busy and they are running at a limited capacity but so worth it we booked online and wrre pretty much able to walk right in
We had a blast. I'm awful at remembering names, but the girl with glasses and a fanny pack across her shoulder was a fantastic guide. We learned lots and had tons of fun. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Victoria.
Small space, easy to enjoy the variety of different insects! Also on my favourite street ;) !
The best are the educators and all that they explain. Unbelievably learning full.
They’ve started letting customers hold bugs again, which really does add to the overall charm of the place. The actual bug room is pretty small, but there’s so many things to learn from the incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff!
Sold us broken merchandise and refused to exchange it. Changed their story from "we check inventory every evening" to "We check inventory multiple times a day." Our daughter loved it there, but they chose the $20 object over our business and the business of our friends and family.
Staff are obviously passionately dedicated to the little alien like creatures inhabiting the zoo. I learned a great deal about these bugs leading me to the conclusion that no science fiction can compare to these remarkable creatures.
Good displays. Nasty and virtue signaling about masks. Won’t go back.
Customer service is not the best, and it's overpriced. We were expecting a tour, but we were on our own.
Went there for the first time, what a great place. One of your employees, Jordon, went above and beyond to make it such an exciting experience! (All of your staff were amazing) Great spot to have some fun and learn about bugs! One of the best customer service experience I have had!!!!! Thank you for giving me such a fun memory for me to hold on to
Loved this little gem. Jess was awesome, so knowledgeable and passionate about the bugs she cares for. Was great to be able to hold some of the bugs, highlight was tarantula, scorpion and Malaysian forest nymph. I highly recommend this place for young and old.
Loved this! Great for kids and adults. They even let you hold some of the bugs! Same place, but you could easily spend a couple if hours there since the guide talks about many of the insects there!
Really nice staff who are really good with kids. They explain what the bugs are really well and get the kids to interact too. My kids loved the bug zoo. It isn't a huge place but there's a lot of interesting bugs to check out.
Lots of bugs. Go with one of the guides. Ours was extremely knowledgeable. She let us hold bugs and answered all questions. My wife held a tarantula.
My partner and I went here in the summer and it was absolutely amazing. When you walk in it seems very small but we spent a good 2 hours here learning and looking at all the different insects. We got to hold a praying mantis, scorpion, tarantula, and a hissing cockroach. There was also no pressure for people that didn’t want to hold or get near the insects. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and we both learned a lot. I highly recommend people interested in bugs, children, or school trips to come here. It’s very educational and fun. The gift shop is really cool too! A lot of different things to look at here. Will definitely be coming back!
I was skeptical after paying the price for admission and waking through the door. It is only 2 rooms of bugs in cages plus an impressive leaf cutter ant colony. What made this place was Ash's tour of the place. He was very engaging and did an outstanding job with all the kids and adults requests to hold the bugs and take pictures of kids holding bugs. He definitely takes his time to allow everyone young and old that’s wants to hold a bug is allowed to hold one. His facts about the different bugs are fun to listen to.
This is a cool little place for adults or children. It is a small bug zoo but interesting to see and learn about the bugs. Post-secondary students get a discount on tickets.
Very cool bugs! Holly was a fountain of knowledge about all the species of bugs in the zoo. Really enjoyed my time.
The young lady from the stuff, during the lecture, proudly claimed that humans in future would not need males as some insects don't. It didn't look like she was joking. As a farther of two sons (they were with me) I felt not comfortable.
It is a very small place and a little over priced but the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. You can hold a few bugs during the tour. Bathrooms are located outside of the building.
We come every year and are never disappointed. Every one of the guides are great and you always get a new fact or two even after multiple visits. Had the pleasure of being toured around by the GM Jayme last time. She was amazing!
Bugs are interesting, but the tour guide makes the experience. Calm dimeanor and ability to read their audience engaged a wide variety of people.
My 2.5 year old absolutely loved it. The staff are amazing. With 2 tours going on at the same time all the time you can keep busy minds going. Plus you get to hold a ton of bugs!
I have to give this place five stars most definitely due to the engaging, energetic and passionate staff who were on hand to do the demonstrations of the bug holding, and information of exhibits. I wish I knew the staff members name who was helping us, but her passion for bugs was adorable, and made them so approachable and neat for the kids. My husband typically will vacate the house for hours to be spared of getting rid of a spider or bee that has gotten in, felt comfortable enough to handle a trantula under her guidance. (Truly remarkable) The exhibits were cool, they definitely should keep it up and hopefully expand. Fantastic time!
While the Bug tour experience is wonderful fun... we attended a girls 7th Birthday Party there, and after the Bug tour were in a cool looking “kids party room” for pizza and cake. There was an 8 month old baby, a 21 month old toddler, a few 3 year olds, and a group of small children.. playing and enjoying some birthday fun. Suddenly the Birthday Girl screamed! In her arm was a 2 inch long spike from a very large (about 3 feet tall) potted cactus sitting in the room! What business would think that having a huge cactus with large spikes on it is a safe plant to have in a kids birthday party room!?!! It wrecked the whole fun vibe, there was fear and the parents had to use the small kiddie stools to make a blockade so no other child would get hurt. What if one of the kids had gotten a cactus spike IN THERE EYE! This is a complete hazard and potential legal liability... Utterly negligent on the part of the Bug Zoo. As per an email to the parents addressing this incident - No compensation of any form has been offered to the parents, only that the Bug Zoo will “trim” this cactus. Beyond ridiculous!
Very interactive and fun. Tour is about 1 hour. I took my parents here and they had a lot of fun. This is for all ages. Fun segways after walking a lot in downtown. You get to touch some of the insects and learn a lot about them.
My daughters loved it, even though one of them is terrified of spiders. They would have given it five stars if covid restrictions didn't keep them from actually handling the bugs.
Wow!! Tre bien! ???? Big shout out to Alex. This guys brains a sponge!! Great staff! Front desk guy.. so happy so inviting so kind Even if you don't like bugs.. go! Well worth it. Parking free Sundays usually so thats a bonus. And parking on that street.
Amazing place. Great staff. Interesting, fun and also educational. They have managed to include an impressive array of insects and arachnids into a modest space. A must if you are in or visiting Victoria.
Fantastic experience and tour. Would recommend for all ages
Small. Not a lot of variety. Very entertaining guide. Good for small kids. 15-30min tops in this place, which makes it rather expensive for a family of four.
Had a large black scorpion cupped in my hands, a cool time and have photo of this visit and good thing the scorpion wasn't camera shy.
We took our granddaughters there a month ago and really enjoyed the experience. The hands on experience is fantastic and the staff are very knowledgeable and work very well with the children. It's a must see for the children and adults.
Great place for kids and adults. The big instructors really know their stuff. There are cool bugs to see, you'll really learn something and you can hold many different and interesting bugs. The leaf cutter and colony is really cool.
Cool bugs..would be more fun if you could hold the bugs ????
