Lovely little museum to go visit. The museum once was the home of William Lawrence, a very successful shipbuilder of his time. He lived a very interesting life and the museum staff do an excellent job telling his tale. The tour guide who took me around was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the history of the home and the Lawrence family

Beautiful house and museum. The museum has a monument cairn tribute to W.D. Lawrence. Both the man and the ship. Symbolic of developments in the days of sail in the decade when Nova Scotia became the leading shipbuilding and ship-owning province, this great ship was Canada’s largest square-rigger. Named after her designer, builder and owner, she was built at the Lawrence shipyard, Maitland, in 1872-74. Her tonnage was 2459 net, her length and beam 262 and 48 feet respectively. After being employed in the Atlantic and Oriental trades for about eithgt years, she was sold to Norwegian buyers in 1883.

A speculative visit turned into an enjoyable 1.5 hours, with a very knowledgeable tour guide telling us all about the life and times of William Lawrence, the famous Nova Scotia ship builder... Worth a visit.

So glad we included this in our vacation. A remarkable collection of the owners original belongings with photos, knowledgeable staff, and small local gift shop. Highly recommend if you're in the area.
